[Speaker 1]
You are talking a lot with each other, because you are enjoying each other, because you did your homework together with someone you don't know. So, you made some new friends. Then tomorrow, you should do it again.

Okay? Eric was upstairs. We were upstairs, yes.

They had a good time, okay? He's there. He's not a tough guy.

You can just sneak in to the yoga studio at 5.30. 5.30. And do your homework with those guys. And then, you make a new friend. And then, it's fun.

Six new friends. Six new friends. It's fun, okay?

You can do it. Just do it, okay? Don't be shy.

Don't be like... Don't leave this class without making some new friends, okay? I'm asking you, tomorrow, you have to do your homework.

And on the homework, at the bottom, it says what? Who did you do your homework with? And where?

And when? Okay? So, do it with somebody you don't know.

Have fun. Also, at Starbucks across the street, right? I like Starbucks.

I'm sorry, Eric. But I like to sit and have, you know... I order cocoa because I'm not supposed to have coffee.

Then he orders coffee, and I drink it. And... We have fun.

And then, so, at 5.30, across the street... Who's that? Darcy and Christine?

Cassie. Cassie. Those guys are there.

Just go. It's fun. They're not going to bite you, okay?

They only bit a few people. Okay, I think we're on page 3.

[Speaker 2]
Can I ask a question? It says here, overcoming possessiveness.

[Speaker 1]
Oh, I didn't do that one.

[Speaker 2]
But I thought it was divisive talk, you know?

[Speaker 1]
What?

[Speaker 2]
That it's talking divisive talk, you know?

[Speaker 1]
Does it say divisively?

[Speaker 2]
Possessively.

[Speaker 1]
Don't worry about it. Don't worry about the book. Just listen to what I tell you.

Okay. Which reminds me. Let's do some questions, okay?

Let's do some questions. Somebody had a question. What was the question?

Who asked me a question? I told you to ask me again. Yeah, what was that?

[Speaker 2]
Gossip. My friends like gossip. Shall I be with them or...

[Speaker 1]
So it's a question. Your friends... I gave the example of my mother.

She likes to gossip, you know? If I go home to my mother's house, I step on her. And if I...

She'll ask me, Did you see the football game? And did you hear what Obama's doing? And did you hear about Angela Jolie?

What she's doing. And then I love her. And I want to make her comfortable.

If I tell her I'm not going to talk to you because you are talking about Angela Jolie, then she will feel uncomfortable. You see? So your question is a good question.

And I forgot to mention it. In the vows, in the Bodhisattva vows, right? It says, Engage in busy talk because...

What's the vows say? Because you enjoy it. So that's the difference.

If you're a motivation, again, it's your motivation. What is your intention? I want to make my mother feel comfortable.

And I want to spend a day with her. And I want her to enjoy the day. I would like to talk about Yogacitra.

She doesn't care about Yogacitra. It won't make her comfortable. Then I go to make her comfortable.

So I should talk about Angela Jolie. It's okay. Sometimes you can learn something by accident.

But then don't get addicted to it. And if you don't have to do it, don't do it. So that's difficult.

Then you start to get used to it. Then you're like watching Angela Jolie. How do you skillfully deal with someone who's gossiping in an unkind way, perhaps it's your friend, without upsetting them?

Because I'm not very skillful in it. I've upset some people because I've been too direct. If your friend is gossiping, and you want to encourage them not to do it, you have to do it gently.

And she said skillfully. In Tibet, they call it tap kepa upaya. You need to do it skillfully.

And that means, if you really understand the Yogacitra, and you understand the principles of the Yogacitra, you are a nice person. And you are a considerate person. And you are a diplomatic person.

And you are a gentle person. You see all of these things. Someone's gossiping, you don't say, don't gossip.

I went to talk last night, the guy said, don't gossip. And then they will feel bad. There's no benefit.

Some people, they learn a new system, and then they go bother everybody. You have to accept my new system. What's in this system?

Oh, I heard last night, you want to make money, you have to give money.

[Speaker 2]
Everybody should give money.

[Speaker 1]
I'm not going to talk to my father anymore. He won't give money. And then you become, what do you call, fanatic.

What do you call this guy? Fundamentalist. Everybody has to accept Yogacitra.

Be gentle. The sign of a person with wisdom is they are gentle. They don't do abrupt things.

They are kind. They match the people around them. They make them comfortable.

They become their friend. They help them slowly. They help them change, but not so much by talking, but just by their example, which is more difficult than talking.

So I was in the diamond business. You don't know. You want to see crooks?

Join the diamond business. You want to see, you can see, every country in the world has a diamond dealer. And they are all like, many of them are very bad people.

They are cheating, you know, like that. Then I went into this pool with all these sharks. And then I didn't tell them, oh, you're a bad person.

You don't know what you're doing. You should give money. You shouldn't cheat people.

I didn't lecture anybody. I just gave example. And I made more money than them.

Then all those guys come in to me. How do you make money? When they ask, then you can change.

Then you can change them. You see? So they won't ask me if I'm not making money.

So the best advertisement is example. Not like from fundamentalist, you know, you have to become Yoga Sutra follower. Geshe Michael is the only true way.

Don't do that. I have a guy in Singapore. Some of you know him, T-Peng.

Yat T-Peng. And he used to be very fat, punk. And then he came to me.

I taught him about the seeds. And I taught him how to change his body. And he lost 15 kilos last year.

He looks great. He looks handsome. He looks strong.

He just put the seed in his mind. Then, last year, I don't know, 100 people came to the talk. This time, 600 people came to the talk.

It was completely full. People were standing in the back. We rented the whole trade union congress auditorium.

Why? They saw Yat Peng and T-Peng. I don't have to make advertisement, marketing, like that.

They saw this guy. They are his friends. Like 50 of his friends came.

They said, whatever you did to T-Peng, I want that. It's okay, like that. Yeah, example.

Alright, other question? Somebody had a good question. What was the question she asked me?

Yeah. How do you plant these seeds? Maybe for a new purpose for your life, or you're trying to find, and you don't even know.

How do you plant those seeds to figure it out? That's a really, really good question. Many, many people ask me that.

Her question is, I feel like I want to do something new with my life. Or I feel like, a lot of people ask me this question. I didn't find the thing in my life which I really love to do.

I have a job. I make pretty good money. But I'm not like excited at that job.

I don't feel like I found the thing which I want to do. What is the seed to plant in the mind to find the thing which I have passion, or I love that thing, or I will be the best in the world at this thing? You see, how do I find the thing I really want to be?

And there's a special seed. It's a very beautiful seed. In your life, and in all of your friends, some of them have the same problem.

Like you know, I have a friend, she said, I don't know, she said, oh Geshe-la, I decided what I want to be. I said, what? She said, police officer.

I said, well, so what? I'm going to police officer academy. I said, okay, you go.

This will last six weeks, you know. It didn't last six weeks. It lasted three weeks, okay?

She came back. She said, you know, I found the thing I really want. I said, what is it?

I want to be massage therapist. Then I said, are you sure? She said, yeah, yeah.

I already enrolled in a school, $8,000. I paid $8,000. She finished the school, which is unusual.

Then she never gave one massage in her life, okay? I got an email from her yesterday. Geshe-la, I decided to move to a new city.

I said, why? She said, now I understand, this city is not a good city. I need a different city.

So you know people like that. You know people who have that problem. So sit down with them and help them to find the thing which they really love to do, okay?

And talk with them, help them, support them, guide them, become their friend, okay? Help them search for the thing they really want to do, but a little more responsible way, okay? Then suddenly, what you want will come to you without any effort, you see?

I gave a story last night. I went to the yoga class in New York. Some guy put $100,000 in my backpack, okay?

You make the seat, what you want will come. You can't stop it. Then suddenly you're helping other people for one week or two weeks or three weeks.

Then you come home one day and you say, oh, now I know what I want to do. Now I got it. And it will be the real one, you see?

But the seed has to be there. You have to plant the seed. The seed for knowing what your passion or your, what do you call it?

Your purpose or your mission in life. It comes by helping other people to find their mission, okay? It's always like that.

You want the shikha, you need to find the shikha. You want to know your purpose in life, help other people to find their purpose, okay? It's beautiful.

It's so exciting when you find it. It's so cool, you know? To find what you really love to do, it's the nicest thing in the world, you know?

And then you just do it. I found it when I was like 18. And I'm doing it for, I can't tell you how many years.

And I'm so happy and I just do what I love to do. I'm doing the thing I most love to do. And you can do it.

You just have to have some other body to do it, okay? Any other, yeah?

[Speaker 2]
You know this idea of planting the seeds?

[Speaker 1]
Yeah.

[Speaker 2]
And then, well, when I read your book, for example, and then there was a section in the book and it was like, if you do this, you know, this will happen. And then it was like very like, oh my God, so exciting. And like, wow, wow, I didn't think that way before.

[Speaker 1]
Yeah.

[Speaker 2]
And then people keep asking you, okay, what do you do? Like, what do I do to get this? And then did you get the knowledge, like this kind of wisdom from experience?

Or like how come we don't know what to do to get these things?

[Speaker 1]
Oh, yeah. You need education. Someone who did it before has to teach it.

Otherwise you can't learn. It's like piano or something, learning piano. So you need, someone has to teach you who did it themselves, okay?

And it's better, if someone's teaching you how to make money, it's better if they made some money. I mean, I wonder, people go to the business seminar, then the guy is bankrupt and he's teaching people how to do it. You know, it's a little bit strange to me.

So it's just education. It's just education. That's all, nothing else.

It's just understanding. In Buddhism, they call it prajnaparamita. It's just understanding.

If you understand, you can do everything. You need a teacher. You need someone to teach you.

There are people in Hong Kong who have been trained very well. They will help you for free. It's not a business, okay?

If you want, and you have questions after tomorrow, and you want someone to help you, Eric can help you. Who else is here? Vicky can help you.

Christina was here. Cassie can help you as long as she's here. There are people.

You can talk to them. These two guys are in Hong Kong all the time. And they can help you.

And they're not going to take your money, okay? They just want to help. It's just free.

And we have a university in the United States. We built it with no money. It's one of the largest university campuses in the world.

And we didn't charge any money to go there. That's the way it should be. And we paid off the man 25 years early, last November.

The bank guy had a hard time. He said, we want to give you all the money. I said, what?

I said, the loan. You gave us money. Here's all the money.

You can have it back. And he said, but the loan is not due for 25 years. I said, that's okay.

I got the money. He said, well, how much do you charge us? I said, we don't charge anything.

He didn't understand. So anyway, it's not a business. They just want to help you.

Why? Yeah, I'm happy. Okay.

Yama ni yama. I'm not going to do ni yama, because it's just more nice things to do for people. Okay?

Shalcha, Santosha. These are Swadhyaya. Just quickly, I didn't put them in this reading.

Okay? If you want to know, sometime we can do it. But it's like, things you should do, like study more.

Go to a teacher. That's the main one. Swadhyaya means study.

Study with a person who knows. So that's the second. I'm not going to explain much more.

Santosha means be satisfied with what you have. Don't be unhappy that you didn't get something. Does that mean you shouldn't want $250 million?

No. It's okay to want $250 million, but don't be unhappy about it. That's all.

Those are ni yama. You've got yama, ni yama are the ten things which I taught you. Okay, that's enough.

What's the third one? Asana. Say asana.

Asana. As? As is a funny word.

It's related to as. It means to sit. Asana means to sit.

Asana in Tibetan is den. Den means a chair or a seat. Asana means a seat.

Because a long time ago, you did yoga so that you can sit for a long time and meditate. Yoga's purpose was so you could meditate. So it was called asana.

What does Master Patanjali say about asana? When people say yoga in the world nowadays, they mean asana. They don't mean don't fool around with other guys' wives.

[Speaker 2]
Okay?

[Speaker 1]
You go to the yoga room and fool around with other guys' wives. I mean, people think asana is yoga. It's only one of the eight parts of yoga.

The other parts are also important. Asana means the yoga exercises. Yoga exercises.

There's a way to learn the asanas, which is very, very old. A thousand years old. We do that in our monastery.

It takes half an hour. I teach it to a lot of business people because they are busy. They don't have two hours at noon to go to...

I went to Patrick's class today. I left my house at 9 o'clock. The class was at 9.30. The class went to 10.45. Then I had to take a shower. Then it was 11.15. Then I had to have my breakfast. That took till 12.15. Then I had to go home. That took till 12.30 or 1 o'clock. I spent three or four hours today to go to yoga class. Then people don't have time. Most people don't have time to do that.

They are working. So there is a nice asana you can do. She can teach you.

She's teaching somewhere. New Age Shop. You should put it up there.

It's a half hour yoga. We study it in our monastery. It works on your chakras.

It was invented by a woman a thousand years ago. Her name was Nagini Kumar. It's very beautiful.

It's very simple. It's very easy. Everybody can do it.

That's how T-Pain lost 15 kilos. He's doing Nagini Kumar everyday. Who's the other guy?

Look at the other guy. Oh, Simon. There's a guy named Simon in Singapore.

He's like old. He's like what? 50, 60 years old.

Old man. And he looks great. He looked like a different person.

I didn't recognize him in the first minute. You know how you see somebody and you don't recognize them? And he did Nagini Kumar.

So this yoga is very brief. Very powerful. Acts on your chakras.

It was invented by a very, very great woman yogi who lived a thousand years ago. It came to Tibet and it came to my monastery. So she can teach you.

You can learn it. Just learn it. You don't have to see her again.

Then do it at home. And then sometimes go to the studio. It's fun.

I enjoy going for yoga. It's like fun. I had a fun time today.

We all had a fun time. But you can do most of your yoga at home and you can just do it before work and it doesn't become a big part of you. You don't have to spend a big part of your day.

Small investment, big return. She can teach you. So the only thing that Master Patanjali says about asana is very brief.

Here's the sthira-sukham asana. Say sthira. Sthira.

Sukham.

[Speaker 2]
Sukham. Asana. Asana.

[Speaker 1]
Really that's all he says. In the whole Yoga Sutra he says three words about exercises. I'm going to talk to you about the exercises.

Let me see what comes next. I'll talk to you a little bit about... Let me see if he says something.

Go to the page which has at the bottom... It says, Turn the combined effort on the sun and you will understand the earth. Do you see that page?

Chapter 2, verse 26. Do you see that page? He's talking about the sun.

Something will happen if you focus on the sun. Next page. Something will happen if you focus on the moon.

Bottom of next page. Something will happen if you focus upon the pole star, the north star. So what does that mean?

What's that about? It means about chi. He's talking about prana or chi.

Prana. Pra means forward. Like proud person goes forward.

Or the proud devotee is in front of the boat. Pra means forward. An means to be alive or to breathe.

It came into the word animation. Or anime. And it means living or breathing.

So prana means breathing well. Prana. Prana.

Good prana. It means chi. It means chi.

Chi. What is chi? Chi is the energy which flows through your body like your blood.

It flows through your body. Everybody has chi. In India they call prana.

In Japan they call chi. In Tibet they call moon. It's all the same.

There's an energy which flows through your body. On top of that energy flows your thoughts. Say lung.

Lung. Sem. Sem.

Jupa. Jupa. Jupa.

Lung. Lung. Sem.

Sem. Jupa. Jupa.

Jupa. Jupa. Lung.

Sem. Jupa. Jupa.

Lung.

[Speaker 2]
Sem.

[Speaker 1]
Jupa. If you say deep then it's more. So lung means chi.

Sem means your mind, what thoughts you are having. Jupa. Jupa.

Jupa. Jupa. Jupa.

Jupa. Jupa. Jupa.

Jupa. Jupa. Jupa.

is moving through the body. On top of the chi is riding your thoughts, like a horse and a horse rider. When the chi flows in the body, your thoughts are moving.

If the chi stops, your thought stops. This is where the body meets the mind. It's inside the ching mai.

You call it ching mai, right? The channels in the body. In India, they're called mani.

In Tibet, they're called tsak. It means that the chi is moving in the body through this channel. Now I'll tell you something interesting.

If the chi moves in some channels, you will get angry. Because it will carry the thoughts into that channel, and you will get angry. You will be in a taxi, or you will be in the subway, and someone will make, what do you call it, block you, or in Hong Kong.

I don't know, I got hit three times today. Maybe I hit somebody before once. Then when you get angry, the chi is moving in one part of your body.

Then you'll chow quite. Exactly. OK.

Donut. Is it bad to have one you'll chow quite?

[Speaker 2]
Not really.

[Speaker 1]
I mean, it's OK. You enjoy. Have one donut.

Eat the donut. It makes me happy. I don't know about you.

I like it. It's OK. Go to Pacific Coffee, have a donut.

We went today. We had yesterday. We split a cheesecake.

That's OK. Then sometimes you feel nervous, or you feel unhappy, or your husband just yelled at you, or your son is doing something bad, and you go to the Yau Chow store, building. You eat a second one.

You eat another one. You don't need it. You're not hungry.

And you just eat it fast. You're not enjoying it. You just feel nervous, or you feel upset.

It makes you feel a little bit calm to eat. Then you eat two Yau Chows. You eat the second one.

And still you feel upset, you eat the third one. Like a Pringles potato chip. They are very good for nervous.

When you feel nervous. You don't eat one and close it, right? When you want to eat like that, you're not hungry.

You're just feeling nervous, or you're feeling upset. Or it makes you feel grounded to eat something. When you do that, the prana is moving in a different channel.

Sometimes we call Starbucks channel. If you can control your mind, then the prana will stop moving in those bad channels. If you can meditate.

If you can control your mind. That's like the horse rider controlling the horse. The horse rider is controlling the horse.

You say, I'm not going to eat three Yau Chows. I'm going to stop. I had one.

I enjoyed it. It was fun. It's enough.

Then the mind stops the prana. The mind stops the chi. To go in the bad place.

Or you can change the chi and the mind will change. You see? You can work from the mind to the chi.

Or you can work from the chi to the mind. You can go both ways. Yoga means work on the chi to change the mind.

Yoga means move the chi to change the mind. That's yoga. Use exercise to change the chi.

Meditation is use the mind to change where the chi goes. Yoga means you do an exercise. It changes the chi, which corrects the mind.

Now we can talk about the Yoga Sutra. The page at the bottom of the page says turn the combined effort upon the sana and you will understand the Earth. Now, inside the body there are 72,000 channels.

In Chiang Mai, there are 72,000. But only three of them are important. Three of them are really important.

One, it's that, use your finger, okay? Left hand. Ready?

Put your hand here. The channel starts here. Nadi.

Chiang Mai. Starts here. Goes up.

Under the skull. Comes down. Back.

Comes down the left side of your backbone. Comes up to here. And then goes down your left leg.

Okay? That nadi is called the moon. Okay?

That nadi is called the moon. That channel is called the moon. On the left side.

Sometimes in Sanskrit they say Ida.

[Speaker 2]
Ida.

[Speaker 1]
What do you have to do with your tongue?

[Speaker 2]
Ida.

[Speaker 1]
Yes, it's Ida.

[Speaker 2]
Ida.

[Speaker 1]
You don't say Ida. Okay? You have to turn the tongue.

Ida. Ida. Ida means sheep.

Ida means sheep. The animal. The sheep animal.

Why? Because this channel color is white. And the sheep is white.

White color. Okay? So, we call this channel sheep channel.

But also moon because the moon is also white. Okay? And cool.

This channel. Okay? When you want one more you jiao.

After you already had two. At Pacific Coffee in one hour. Or 15 minutes.

When you are eating the Pringles like this. Not like this. Okay?

Then the tea is moving here. It's a little bit to the left side. Okay?

It's a little bit to the left side. Comes down the left side of the bone. That bone.

Okay? When you feel nervous. And you are eating too much.

Taking too much. I want. I want.

I want. I want more email. I want more.

You've answered all your email. Still you open the computer. Is there any email?

Does anybody have email for me?

[Speaker 2]
You know?

[Speaker 1]
What's the news? What's the news on the Yahoo? Oh, maybe I should check my phone.

May I have text message. You know? Then this nervous.

Nervous wanting something. You feel. I must have one more email.

[Speaker 2]
I must have.

[Speaker 1]
You wake up. People wake up in the morning. What?

They don't even get out of the bed. You know? Even they don't pee pee yet.

They are checking the email. You see? I don't know why.

I also do. I have to go bathroom really fast. And still I check the email.

You know? And just I'm nervous. I want something.

So this is. When you feel like that. The prana is moving in the.

Prana is moving in the moon chair.

[Speaker 2]
So what do you do? We'll get there.

[Speaker 1]
We'll get there. You get another sofa. I have five sofas.

I do have. OK. Then on the right side.

Put your finger here. Goes up the right side. Comes down under the scalp.

Comes down the back. Down. Comes between your legs.

Goes down the right leg. OK. This one is called Pingala.

Pingala. Pingala meaning is pink. Pink means like red color.

Red color. This one is red. It's not called the moon.

It's called the. Sun. Sun.

OK. The channel on the right is called the sun. It's coming here.

By the way. That's why you have two parts to your nose. They form around the channel.

That's why. If you only have Ida. You will have one hole here.

OK. You look funny. I think.

OK. If you get upset at your boss. Or you get upset at your husband.

Or you get upset at yourself. Then the prana is moving in the pingala. Then the chi is moving in the pingala.

In the middle. Starts here. Put your finger here.

Then goes under the scalp. Comes back. Goes down the back.

Comes up here. This one is called. In Sanskrit.

They call. In the yoga sutra. They call it the north star.

Or the pole star. OK. Why?

This is the star in the sky which does not move. There is only one star which does not move. All the other stars move around the star.

That star is like the middle of the world. Like zhong. It's zhong guo.

That's the real zhong guo. This is the center of the world. Is there.

And all the other stars are moving around that. But that one doesn't move. Because that's like the center of the world.

Then the whole world is moving around this. So it means the channel in the center of your body. There's one.

Follows the bone. Comes down the body. When the chi moves inside that channel.

You feel love. And you feel understanding. And you feel contentment.

And you feel wisdom. OK. All the good feelings come when the chi or the prana is moving in the middle.

OK. When it's moving in the middle. In China, Chinese medicine, they call this much measurement.

What do they call? It's based on your finger.

[Speaker 2]
Two. I think two.

[Speaker 1]
Yeah. One, two. Right?

So measure four. How do you say B? How do you say four?

[Speaker 2]
Six. OK. Anyway.

[Speaker 1]
You take four, two. Below your navel. OK.

Four, two. In the back. In the back.

One and a half.

[Speaker 2]
One and a half inches.

[Speaker 1]
You see, it's important. Two is a very wise measurement. Very smart measurement.

Because everybody's two is different. No, for your body, it will be four of your two. Not mine.

Mine is four of my finger. Yours is four of your finger. Everybody has different sized body.

It's very smart. The old ways are sometimes very smart. At that place, those three channels connect.

Like plumbing under the sink. Hot water, cold water, drain pipe. They connect here.

Four, two under the navel. They connect in the back. Then the qi can go to all three places.

But never at the same time. When you get upset, the qi comes to the right side. In the center.

If you want, when you are eating the 19th pringles. OK? Then the qi comes out of the right side, goes to the left side.

And you won. It's not wrong to want it, OK? It's OK.

You can want the doughnut. You'll tell quite good. I think so.

But two is bad. Three is bad. You see, that's just nervous or upset or something.

OK? So if you want, if you eat one you'll tell quite good. And you got it honestly.

And you didn't take the last one from somebody else. Or something like that. Where's the prana moving?

Where's the qi moving? In the middle. You feel happy.

Honest happy. Clean happy. Pure happy.

OK? You didn't hurt anybody to get that nunchaku. You just paid the money and you ate it and that's enough.

And you feel happy. Then what? It's moving here.

Then you remember your husband yelling at you or your boss yelling at you. You get a little bit upset. You want the second one.

What happens? It doesn't move. Yeah.

The prana moves here to the left side. Then the qi is moving in the moon channel. OK?

Then you want to order a third yotel. Why? You go to the counter at Pacific Coffee.

We did. You say, I want the third one. The guy's like, are you sure?

Yes. Then I want. Then he looks in the counter.

We don't have. All the prana goes to the right side.

[Speaker 2]
Why you don't have?

[Speaker 1]
You're a big company. You have offices everywhere. Why don't they put enough in the...

See, now you're angry. Right? Now all the prana, all the qi moved to the right side.

OK? These two are friends. OK?

When you're angry, you get nervous, you want more food. When you can't get the food, you get angry. They are very...

The prana is going left and right side. They are good friends. OK?

Hang on a second. I'm going to roll. Now, I have bad news for you.

Are you ready? We have a mala? Can I have my mala?

OK. So, here is left channel and right channel. OK?

This is how they teach it in the moral theory. Here is right channel and left channel. Here is the sushumna, middle channel.

OK? Here, the left and right cross. OK?

They cross and they come back. They go like this around the sushumna. And then they come back.

And they choke the sushumna. They choke it. They choke the sushumna.

Inside the sushumna is running your happy thoughts, contentment thoughts, wisdom thoughts, love for other people thoughts. What happens if you want to second your job? What happens to sushumna?

Chokes it. Chokes it. When the prana is running in the moon channel, the moon channel gets fat.

Like a water hose. OK? When the chi moves in the left side, it chokes the middle.

It chokes the middle channel. If the middle channel doesn't flow, what will happen to your happy thoughts? Cannot.

Not possible. Not physically possible to have a happy thought. When you are thinking about the 19th Pringles, it's not possible to be happy.

The more you eat, the more unhappy you will become. That's the nature of that channel. It's a physical thing.

It's a physical thing. If you get upset at your husband, can you enjoy the dinner? Cannot.

You will not taste it. It can be really good. You can eat in the Phoenix restaurant and if you are feeling unhappy, you won't taste good.

You can't taste good. Because the anger channel is choking the middle channel. There are choke points here, choke point here, choke point behind the neck, choke point behind the heart, three behind the heart.

The channel goes three times at the heart. Both of them. It really chokes.

Heart really chokes. One behind the navel and one here. So in yoga, you have a knot like this.

Let's say in your heart. That stops love. The knot here in the back.

It's not here, it's in the back. It's three times, right? Like that.

It chokes your love. You cannot feel love. So what did Lady Nirmala one thousand years ago, what kind of yoga she said you should do first?

A twist. Okay, watch. See, she said first do twist.

At the choke place. What's the choke place called? Chakra.

Okay, we'll talk about it someday. I won't talk about it tonight. How the chakra forms, that's another question.

But it's a knot, okay? When you do yoga, when you do asana, you twist. It loosens the knot.

How do you feel when you come out of yoga if you don't hurt your neck? Great. You feel happy.

You feel great. Why? You did it.

First you untwist, okay? I like that. Oh, I'm sorry.

Where are we supposed to put that thing? Okay. Is it alright?

Hello. Did I put it in the wrong place? Okay, alright.

We'll use the iPhone cord. Alright, so Lady Niguma said do four kinds of asanas at each chakra and do them in order. Start from the bottom chakra and go to the top chakra one by one.

Okay, it's important. The first asana is a always a twist, okay? How does it look?

Crooked. It's better. It's better.

It's more open, but there's a problem. What?

[Speaker 2]
It's not straight.

[Speaker 1]
That's it. Okay, you can't answer, because you're the teacher. What's the second asana she always did?

[Speaker 2]
Stretch.

[Speaker 1]
To stretch. Okay, make them straight. The first asana is always a twist at each chakra.

The second asana is a straight one. The third one is a sucking, is a banda, okay? Or a lock.

And it should start down here. Why? The prana's coming out of the two bad guys.

And we want it to go into the middle. You have to do a banda. You have to bring the prana where?

At the connection point. Where they connect together. You must do some kind of a udiyala banda, or mula banda.

You must do some kind of sucking. Pilates. Some kind of sucking motion.

Something to bring the core. They call it core, right? Something to bring the prana in, to the middle.

The last, the fourth asana should always be distribution. It brings all the prana up the middle chakra. They call it distribution.

And that's usually a shaking motion like this. It should be something like this. You can learn.

She'll teach you. It's very fast. It takes 20 minutes.

You can do 15 minutes. You can do half hour. And the guy in Singapore, I should bring him here.

I should bring Jipeng, right? I can make so much money. Why did he lose so much weight?

He looks great. He looks like 20 years younger. Why?

Because he doesn't want to eat three doughnuts. He doesn't want the three doughnuts. Why?

She's not moving there anymore. You don't have to go on a diet. You don't have to control yourself.

You don't have to control your anger. You just don't have it. People give you a doughnut.

You say, I don't feel like it. Thank you. I don't feel like it.

Someone bring you some ice cream. You say, I don't feel like that. Why?

Because you suck the prana out of the side. It came into the middle. He didn't go on some stupid diet.

He didn't read any diet book. He didn't pay somebody, some diet company. He just did some simple yoga.

It's very simple. All of the asanas are easy. They're dumb asanas, which you already know.

But they are done in a very specific order. And they go up the channels. It's very, in our monastery, they drill it into you.

You think, where is that? You think this is for prayers? You can hear in the monastery.

Some guy didn't memorize his yoga thing. You have to say it very fast. If you don't, you get this on your head.

You have all these nice patterns on your head. They say all those Tibetan monks are so polite and nice. Do you know why?

They got hit for 20 years. So that's a very, very famous prayer from 1,000 years ago. You must go in order.

You must go up the sushumna. Open the chakras one by one. And then you won't get angry when you go in that traffic.

You won't feel upset at your husband. Your husband will say, I don't like duck. And you say, OK, I'm watching a movie.

Here's the telephone number for the pizza delivery. But you don't get angry. You're not angry.

You're like, OK. You don't get upset. You're in traffic.

You're OK. I'm in traffic. I pull out my computer.

I do my emails. It's OK. It doesn't hurt anything.

So like that. That's the purpose of asana. That was number yama, niyama, asana.

What's number four? Pranayama. OK, we'll talk about pranayama then we'll stop, OK?

Prana means? Chi. OK.

Ayama. Ayama means to control the breath. To control the breath.

Where were we? We were in Singapore. We gave a nice talk to the Chinese community.

Very beautiful talk. And yeah, I'm sorry, T-Pain was translating. And we did a good job.

Then we got back in the car. And some guys said, OK, Shimako, I really want to be your driver for 10 minutes. I said, OK.

Then we got in the car. Then he drove. And he's breathing like this.

Listen, he's going. Next day I called him. I said, come to my house.

And he came with his wife. And I said, you have to fix your breath. You're going to get a heart attack.

You will have a heart attack. And it's going to be soon. And you have to change your breath.

Something wrong. Then he said, how am I going to change my breath? Then I taught him pranayama.

Pranayama means control the breath. How to control the breath. Why?

Now, the breath is not your prana, but it's connected to your prana. If your prana is flowing smoothly, then your breath will be smooth. If your prana is crazy, then your breath will be.

You know when you get angry, how do you breathe? When you get your third yotau, how do you breathe? I know your breath reflects your prana, reflects your mind.

It reflects your thoughts. You can tell how calm a person's mind is by watching their breath. Listen to their breath.

When you feel happy, when you're contented, you're like, ha. Right? And you breathe slow.

Naturally, you breathe slow. So, if your mind is being crazy, and you have trouble controlling it, you can slow your breath. Just slow your breath down.

Shvasa prashasaya. He talks about it in the Yoga Sutra. You can do yoga.

Untwist, straighten, suck in, distribute. Or you can do, you can also do pranayama. There are special practices, special breathing practices.

The best one is just breathe more slow. Slow down your breath. Especially the exhale.

Long, long exhale. Then the breath will slow down. Chi will slow down.

Mind will slow down. Become more calm. That's using, going backwards.

Use the chi to affect the mind. We'll do a short pranayama. I'm going to show you the pranayama we do in the monastery.

And it's a very nice pranayama. You can see other pranayama. You want to see?

Here's Kapalabhati. That's Kapalabhati. You can do Amisara.

You can do retention. You can do. They are very, very dangerous.

They make you crazy. You will get big problems. It will hurt your digestion.

Don't do those without a good teacher. You can do this. No, it's good.

You can do. But someone has to teach you. And I'm going to teach you the higher pranayama.

It's easier. You ready? So sit up straight.

You can just rest your hands on your knees. It's okay. You can sit in a chair.

It's fine. It doesn't matter. Just be comfortable.

It doesn't matter. You put all your legs like this. You're going to meditate on your knees.

How much they hurt. Okay? So don't do that.

Just comfortable. The back should be straight. Then hands are here.

Close your eyes softly. And watch your breath. Just breath coming in and out.

We'll do it for a few minutes, okay? Deep breath. Especially long exhale.

When you exhale long. Relax. Just watch the breath.

Now think about somebody you know who has a problem. Think about somebody you know who has a problem. And bring them to this room.

They are sitting in front of you. Bring them to this room. Think about their problem.

Anybody. When you breath out. Every time you breath out.

Long breath out. Long. And your breath is bringing them help.

The breath is bringing them some kind of help. Maybe they need money. Then money is coming on your out breath.

They need medical care. Or they have some physical problem. Then like medicine or help is coming on your long out breath.

But they are lonely. They can't find a boyfriend or girlfriend. They are having trouble with their husband.

Then give them comfort. On your long out breath. Let your breath.

Long out breath. Touch their heart. Make them happy.

Fix their problem. With your breath. You have to breath long out breath to touch them.

Each time you breath out. Help them. With the breath.

Now see they change. They feel relaxed. They feel happy.

Their problem is gone. Just look at them. And slowly open your eyes.

So there are places you can learn you know. Just hold breath right. Or you can learn.

You can do it. It's ok. It helps a little bit.

You can do this one. It equalizes the prana. It's ok.

These are good things. These are also pranayama. This one is what we learn in our monastery.

Because you are helping somebody with your breath. Your long long out breath. And so some people say if you feel nervous then they say what?

Stop. Count ten breaths. Watch your breath.

That's ok. But it's not helping other person. You see I mean.

You are not thinking about another person. The seeds are planted by thinking about other people. The seeds are planted by doing something good for other person.

Even in your imagination. So the best pranayama. The real pranayama.

You are using your breath. Long exhale. And give some help to somebody.

Even just pretend. In your mind. I'm helping you with your problem.

And you wash them in your breath. You help them with your breath. This plants a seed to be calm.

Then you will be calm. Because the prana will follow the breath. And the mind will follow the prana.

Ok. So that's which number? Four.

Yes. Ok. That's number four.

So now we did half of the ashtanga. You got ashta. What you don't have angaya.

No. We have only four. And then tomorrow we have to do the other four.

Tomorrow we have one other big job. We have a very big job. It comes in the yoga sutra.

Let me check. Yes. Then your teacher will help you.

To do the homework. There's some things you need to write on the homework which still we have to talk about. You can talk to these guys, Eric, or Christine, or Harrison tomorrow.

If there's something on the homework that you don't understand, just come a little bit early and they will help you. But somebody asked me, we talked about it tonight, I made a mistake when I was young. Everybody under 20 is stupid.

And they make stupid mistakes. They hurt somebody, or they do some big mistake, and they don't know. They just don't know and they make mistakes.

So, all of us, we have some old seeds inside of us. From some mistake. You're not a bad person, you're not hurting everybody.

You're a good person. Everybody is a good person inside. We make mistakes.

Then those seeds are inside of me and they're inside of you. So we have to take them off. The old bad seed will block your new good seed.

You see? You can give money to people. You know people who give money to other people.

Then they don't get anything. They are blocking seeds. They have old seeds from old mistakes and they are blocking the fresh seeds, the good seeds.

So tomorrow we have to talk about that. There's a special method to remove any mistake. It doesn't matter how big.

There's no mistake you can't fix. And there's no problem in your life that you cannot fix. Anything.

Somebody told me today, I have a problem with my husband for 23 years. You can change it. You can change it.

You can fix him. Even after 23 years. Because everything is coming this way.

If you can just change it here, he will change. He's not coming from his side. I'm sorry.

It's your fault. Whatever problem you see in other people is coming from you. Also all the good things you see in the world are also coming from you.

So congratulations. It's okay. We just have to change the bad ones.

Take out the seeds. We will do it tomorrow. We have a few minutes.

Like 5 minutes. Can you teach us how to take people's bad seeds away? And then give them good karma?

Like just using your breath everyday? Yeah. Vicky asked, is there a way you can help other people take away their bad seeds?

And give them good seeds using your breath. Okay? That's like a more advanced problem.

Some people say... I had a teacher, a yoga teacher. He said, if you can hold your breath for 5 minutes, then everything is okay.

I just got a headache. I got all red. And I never couldn't do it.

So this pranayama, there are more advanced. You use left side. Then you come in on the right side.

And you take a different thing. It affects your mind. We'll see tomorrow if we have time.

Anything else? Okay. I remember yesterday talking about how to find a seed which will grow faster.

Yeah. Let's do that tomorrow also. Okay, his question is, how do we speed up the seed?

So there's two problems. One, we have to make the seed faster. And one, we have to stop the old bad seed which is going to block the new seed.

Seeds are like airplane in the runway. Okay? The one seed which you did earlier will fly first, take off first.

Then the new seeds have to wait behind the old seeds. Because they are taking off one by one, right? So we want to cancel these flights.

[Speaker 2]
Okay?

[Speaker 1]
All the old bad seeds, we want to cancel the flight. Then the new seed can come up to take off first. If you don't take care of the old seeds, maybe you will make good seeds but it will take a long time.

So we have to cancel the old seeds. And then, his question, we have to, how to speed up, you know, take off the new seeds. We have to speed up the take off.

Make it faster. And I will teach you tomorrow. There's four steps.

And they're called, say, xi. Xi. Samba.

Samba. Jorwa.

[Speaker 2]
Jorwa.

[Speaker 1]
Tatok. Tatok. Xi.

[Speaker 2]
Xi.

[Speaker 1]
Samba. Samba. Jorwa.

[Speaker 2]
Jorwa.

[Speaker 1]
Tatok. Tatok. Four steps.

And then it's cool. It's so much fun. It's really fun.

Because then you can kind of make things happen. Strange things. Like, fun things.

Anything you want. Somebody is complaining about you all the time. Then you just do xi, samba, jorwa, tatok.

After one week they are telling you what a nice person you are. I have in my office in New York, I had 800 employees. 10,000 people in the world but 800 in New York.

One by one I changed it. 800 people happy. Really, 800 people.

One day I had a problem. The accountant came to me. He said, Geshe Michael, there's a problem in the company.

I said, what's the problem? He said, everybody is going home 9 o'clock. You go home 5 o'clock, you don't know.

They are going home at 9 o'clock. In America, if they go home 4 hours after 5, you have to pay them for 6 hours. You have to pay one and a half times salary.

Every hour after 5 o'clock. So purposely they are staying till 9 o'clock. Then I don't know because I always go home at 5 o'clock.

Then he said, you have to tell them not to work till 9 o'clock. You have to stop them. So I made an announcement.

Everybody has to stop working 5 o'clock. Punch your card. You know the punch card at 5 o'clock.

Then I came back after one week. The accountant said, Geshe Michael, we still have a problem. I said, what's the problem?

He said, they are all punching the card at 9 o'clock. Then I said, show me the card. He showed me the card.

They all say 9 o'clock. Then I said, OK. I had a meeting.

I was a little bit upset. I said, I asked you to punch out at 9 o'clock. Now I'm changing the clock.

You can put the paper at 9 o'clock. It will punch 5. After 5 o'clock, it will always punch 5.

Then I came back after one week. I said, how's the problem? He said, it's fine.

All the cards say 5 o'clock. I said, what time are they going home? He said, 9 o'clock.

Then I had another meeting. I said, what's wrong with you people? You don't have family?

You don't have children? Why are you staying till 9 o'clock? You're not getting paid.

I'm not paying you. You're getting paid for 5 o'clock. You're all going home at 9 o'clock.

What's the problem? Then some lady raised her hand. She's from Fujian.

She's from China. Then she raised her hand. She said, Geshe Michael.

I said, what? She said, we love it here. We want to stay.

Please don't make us go home. We like to. We will work for free.

All the people will work for free. Extra four hours. We just love it here.

We want to stay. See, you can change it. Strange things you can do.

You can make everybody happy around you. You can correct them one by one. This person is complaining.

How do you stop it? You stop complaining. This person is always jealous of the other person.

Stop being jealous. This person is always grumpy. Stop being grumpy.

Then one by one, you change 800 people. Then they don't want to go home. It's very funny.

They don't want to go home. Really, that's a true story. It's very funny.

Finally, I locked the door at 5 o'clock. I pushed them out. Locked the door.

Go to your apartment. It's funny. So one by one, you can change all the people around you.

You love most of the people around you. You love them. But you have small improvements you want to make.

I love my husband, but a little bit I want to correct him. I love my boss. I like my job.

But there's some problems that I don't like. And then you just fix them. And then your life is like a miracle.

You feel happy all the time. Everybody around you is happy. You feel happy.

And my life is like that. Mostly my life is like that. I just have fun the whole day.

I'm having fun all day, every day. I don't have any money problems. I just have fun.

I don't have any health problems. So I want you to be like that. I want your life to be like that.

It's fun. It's much more fun. No worries.

No problems. Just everything is easy. And then you can have fun.

And then you just feel like holiday every day. There's no difference between the holiday and the other days. My friends are complaining.

Geshe Michael, you don't celebrate the Buddhist holidays. Yesterday they are complaining to me. We don't celebrate Buddhist holidays.

I said, every day is a holiday. I feel like every day is a holiday. So why pick one day?

So I want you to be happy. You can just be really happy. And have oxygen money.

And then happy people can make other people happy. Then it spreads like a virus. Happy virus.

It spreads. And then everybody is like having fun all day. So I'm hoping to be like that.

Okay. I'll see you tomorrow. Please do your homework.

If you don't do your homework, you won't remember. And it won't help you. You won't be happy if you don't do your homework.

I'm trying to tell you.

[Speaker 2]
No, I'm not kidding.

[Speaker 1]
If you do your homework, you will remember. And then you will make yourself happy. So please do your homework.

It's stupid homework. Come at 5.30. Have fun with these guys.

[Speaker 2]
Turn in the homework.

[Speaker 1]
Yeah, they have to turn them in tonight because they have to check them. The homework from today, you have to give to Christine. From yesterday.

One more thing. Tomorrow, if you did your two homeworks, you will get a certificate. We need to know how you want your name spelled.

Otherwise, we will misspell your name. So Christine is there. Do you have a piece of paper?

Then please give her, if you want a certificate, you have to finish two homeworks. If you didn't do it yesterday, okay, give her two tomorrow. It's okay.

Then there's a third homework. That's a trust homework. I'm going to give you a ticket first, and then you're going to finish the third homework.

By yourself. Very bad speed to lie about the third homework. All right.

See you tomorrow. Thank you.
