[Speaker 1]
I'll talk to you after class. Okay, thank you. Absolutely.

And, you know, thank you so much, Ward. I can totally see the difference of, you know, these last couple terms, everybody's reading is just getting better and better. And it's all due to your class.

So thank you so much. That's awesome. I, you know, I always thought I could have this excuse, like, no, I couldn't do anything earlier than when this starts.

I live on the West Coast. I have to get up so early and then Ward goes ahead and does it to teach you guys Tibetan. So that's awesome.

Mind only? Mind only. Okay.

Thanks, Nick. Thank you. It's quiz time.

It is. Let me open the quiz. All right.

So I tortured you with pronunciation. Now I will torture you with mind only. Okay.

I have this habit of asking for any questions before I start. What's for breakfast? My tea, if I can get my hands on it.

Can you guys hear my daughter screaming in the background? No. I heard a little yip.

I think Zoom, like, does it better than parents is. Okay. Here we go.

Thank you for your patience. All right. So what is the crux of the problem in our argument concerning when and if power attainers, which I'm putting in quotes, I don't know if we should even make a capital or not, but or arhats with something remaining have gotten rid of their foundation consciousness or not?

What is the crux of this argument? It's a whole section. Are you paying anything?

[Speaker 3]
I guess it depends on whether or not you count their foundation consciousness locked. I still don't know what that is. I know we're talking about it.

So I give that answer reticently because I'm not super impressed or convinced with it yet. I'm trying to get there. Okay.

[Speaker 1]
That's kind of the answer to the next question. Oh, sorry. Sorry.

So you're not wrong. But why does Jason Koppel have to argue for a slot is this question? Because they have.

[Speaker 3]
Because, yes, they have a foundation consciousness.

[Speaker 1]
Right. Why is he saying, why can't he just say they don't have one? That's kind of...

Because it says something left over in their name. No, he just... Earlier in the book, he said that they have all eight.

Right. So therefore, he can't go back on it. And he's arguing why they don't have one, but they do.

I would let him get away with it this time rather than having to have the slot thing. Me too. It's all the same to me at this point.

Yeah. Just this one time, I promise not to call him out on it. Okay.

So now we're up to Ben's slot thing. What is Jason Koppel's meaning when he refers to the foundation consciousness as objectless? And we were saying, you know, we basically translated that as slot.

How does this help resolve the crux of the problem in this argument? Ben basically said it.

[Speaker 3]
Yeah, I have nothing else to say on the topic.

[Speaker 1]
Yeah, there seems to be some sort of a slot. We agree that there's a position there in the schema of consciousnesses for it to be.

[Speaker 3]
And even though there's nothing in the slot, it is still holding a position amidst the other seven.

[Speaker 1]
Yeah. So basically, there's the eighth consciousness, but it's not looking at anything. It then makes it possible that we still have a foundation conscious that are having a team nirvana and making functionally the case that we no longer have a foundation consciousness.

She wakes up at the same time as I do. She's going to teach classes later. Boop, boop, boop, boop.

So the next part is that Jason Koppel said there is a mushi for this section. What is the mushi between? And I kind of knew the answer to this, but I kind of wanted to figure it out.

So I made it a question. Let me go look.

[Speaker 3]
The possibilities where we had crunchy functioning, but not our normal senses functioning.

[Speaker 1]
Nice. Yeah. Basically, having a crunchy and not having one.

Let's see what I wrote. I wrote for part of the mind that had nothing to engage. I think it's kind of like the four permutations between crunchy and six normal consciousnesses.

Looks like she agreed with me. Say again. She agrees with me.

You're right. She holds her head up very well. She does.

She's very dignified. Yeah. Okay.

This we had near the end of class, but we had like no vocab. So I had to use it. Brief presentation.

Basically, it's a book. Okay. Parts of ripening.

Part is that is right. I have a ripened part. Yeah.

And when she turned me. Is it like a non-functional foundation consciousness or something? Or is it just the slot?

Yep. Both. Empty slot.

And Stanley actually asked me about this. Stanley, I think this is the closest thing in the text to empty slot that Deshla was using as our translation to me. I don't know if Stanley's awake or here.

Okay. I translated stuff. All right.

You sound excited about it. Let's see. I actually ended up.

I thought it was going to take a short period of time. But then it took a long period of time. So hopefully it's decent.

How many diaper changes? That's the measure. Right.

That's how I measure the days of my life. Yep. Okay.

Here we go. Please read. Oh, yeah.

duar yang mu shi sung te kun shi yula njuk she mepe mu ni sempe nakap ngao nakap ngao. Good. Let's see your translation.

In a summary of the outlines of Lama Krishna, they also say there are four permutations. When you have a foundation consciousness, not engaging actively. Yeah, juk she.

You have to think of it as the six normal consciousnesses. I think. Okay.

I guess it's the five instances. Yeah, it's the five instances when you don't have juk she. You see what I mean?

And we're going to list those in our class today. We're going to go to a text and list them. Okay.

What's interesting for me personally is that, what would you estimate is the year of number ten lappa? I mean the century. Isn't it, you would think fourth century, right?

Yeah, something like fourth century. And so this mu shi mu sung that the kids debate in the monastery, it's not some Tibetan thing. It goes back almost 2,000 years.

I think that's cool. The four combinations, right? Permutations, combinations.

I never realized it was that old. That's cool. What's it in Sanskrit?

It's a question. That's a good question. I looked it up.

You can ask word later. Hey, word. Yes, word.

Yeah, I did look it up before. It's been a little while though. Okay.

Okay, next part. Okay. Should I read it?

Yes, please. Okay. I know it's the opposite move as 438.

Dopa means the opposite move. Oh, just the opposite. Oh, okay.

What's the opposite move? That your mind is omniscient or something? 100% engaged?

I don't know. Well, what was the mu just above it? You do have foundation consciousness, and you don't have your normal sense consciousnesses.

Now you've got the opposite. What's that? You do have your...

All your sense consciousnesses. Normal sense consciousnesses, but you don't have kun shi. So dopa here means the opposite of the mu, which is the opposite of the last one.

Yeah. The opposite permutation, something like that. It really makes me happy when I catch you guys on something.

It makes me feel like I have a function.

[Speaker 3]
No, it makes me very happy to be caught.

[Speaker 1]
Because I'm getting less and less because you guys know everything.

[Speaker 3]
Right. We accept this permutation?

[Speaker 1]
Well, that's a good question. No, this mu is where you don't have a foundation consciousness, but you do have normal functioning awareness, sense consciousnesses. Okay.

[Speaker 3]
Okay, and I'm mindful of that state?

[Speaker 1]
I think then you can accept this, I think. Right? It means there is a case where you don't have a kun shi, but you do have your normal sense consciousnesses operating.

Cool. And that's at arhat and at eighth level or higher bodhisattva. So the claim here is that you no longer have a kun shi, but you do have a functioning sense awareness.

It's like eyes, ears, nose, etc. Okay.

[Speaker 3]
So we are going to say enlightened beings whittle it down to six at some point. That is our current position.

[Speaker 1]
I don't know if he ever says that. Let's keep going. Oh, by the way, he does.

Now here's the third mu in 440. Yeah, so the mu of both, right? And then, by the way, 441 is going to be the mu where you have neither, which is interesting.

And by the way, this whole section is kind of more comforting than the stranger section before. If they have both, it's other times, other than the first two, where you do have kun shi operating. This is normal people, basically.

They have a kun shi and they are not in deep meditation, they are not in deep sleep, stuff like that. Their six consciousnesses are functioning. You know what's really helpful is, I went and found a text which clarifies the five states where you supposedly have no active consciousness, sense consciousness.

Yeah, I saw in the notes. Yeah, we'll go through that today. Now here's the interesting one for Dr. Kramer and everybody. What's the mu where you have neither what nor what? Neither your six normal consciousnesses functioning nor foundation consciousness not functioning. Good, nor foundation consciousness, yeah.

Please read. You want to have somebody else read? Sure, Roxanna's on my screen.

It keeps people awake, you know. She wants karmic seeds. Good.

nyi ka me pa ni means what, Wern? Neither those. Yeah, what is the mu where you neither have kun shi or normal sense consciousnesses?

Well, you could take a milopa. You could take a buddha. And a chimendok, no, a arhat.

Well, yeah, he just says, somebody on the fifth path, right? And a chimendokpa chandrisimpa. Unstoppable bodhisattva.

There's two kinds of... What's it, gopay nyom juk? And there's two kinds of meditation where you supposedly have no active consciousness.

Gopay nyom juk, cessation meditation. What's the other one? Aren't they both called gok something?

Anyway, we'll have it later. shukpa dang. And when you reach hlak me kyi nyang de.

Nirvana without remainder. Yeah, remainder of pumbo. Heaps.

Yeah, okay. By the way, this is a mind-only text, right? Yes.

Do they accept this Abhidharmakaya? Abhidharma type of nirvana where your body stops and your mind stops? I don't know.

Okay, and then he quotes the sumchupa. What's the... yeah, the 30 verses says...

Yeah, nyi ne means from the point of arhat. Okay? From the point of arhat, they stop.

Yeah, they stop. It stops, or they stop. I guess it must be they.

You have to translate it as they stop, because he's talking about the nyi ka me pe mu. You see what I mean? Oh, yeah.

Yeah, okay. Yeah, when you translate it, you have to say they stop. Yeah, okay, good.

All right then. And I went and found something down there. I think it's the quote...

both of these quotations. Yeah, actually, I found them, but then I saw that you did it in the notes. Yeah, good.

It's the same. This is my translation of the verse. Oh, good.

Let me see. But it's a little different in the tenger. It's ma instead of ne.

You're muted, Gen. I was trying to spare you from my notes. I think it's up above he glosses this as nyi ne.

Yeah, he changed it to nyi ne. Yeah, which is kind of more clear, actually. And sometimes some kappa will adjust the quotations, right?

Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

They have both stopped, yeah. Good. Let's go back down now.

Yeah. Yeah. From the point of...

And the nyi means arhathood, I think. Yeah. From the point of arhathood, they both stopped.

de la ne te ram jung dang, de la mikpa yin che jang nang she, ma sam dang yin chen. Whoa. I think I need a commentary to understand this.

de la ne te. I know. It made the 30 verses easy to translate.

Personally, I wouldn't even try without a commentary. No. I don't know.

You want to guess? I don't know. I think ultimate rabjung is considered arhat.

Yeah, I can do it. I have one more. Two more verses, I think.

Okay, go for it. Oh, by the way, this is Tsongkhapa Crowing. About...

About... Yeah. Yeah, so you want to read it?

Or have somebody read it? Sure. Yinghui.

Very nice. Really nice. Good, good, good.

Therefore... Therefore the point, sansam here means the point. Therefore my position, which I gave you before, about the point at which kun shi mepa.

Yeah, kun shi disappears or is gone. Yeah, and the sungwa jang means can be considered ma mepa. Yeah, ma mepa means flawless or something.

There's no... You can't find anything wrong with it. Ma means anything wrong with it.

You can't find anything wrong with it. You guys tried, but it didn't work. What's ma literally mean?

A wound? Yeah, an open wound. It's an interesting way for a debater to say my position has...

my position doesn't have any exceptions. Okay, good. Cool.

In other words, he's talking to Kramer about his slot, I think. Uh-uh, I'm right. Yeah, yeah.

Ma juk ma min. Ma juk ma min. My slot thing is perfect.

You're going to have someone read a word? Sure. Everyone's doing very well.

[Speaker 2]
Catherine, please. de na wang to fei seng ba thang ja chung pe ja chung ja chung pe gyu kyi nang she che gyepo te gyepo gyepo gyepo te la nang min yi nang she tong Sam kyi mi kyap kyap pe chi po wa yop pe le pe nang she she ser kyi seng shi kun shi she mi chok to Okay, nice.

[Speaker 1]
You're getting better and better. Therefore, within the mind of bodhisattva's empowerment... By the way, a word.

He uses two synonyms for this level of bodhisattva. What are they? He says just wang to.

He says wang to pe. That's one of them. He calls him wang to pe chandru sembar.

And then he calls him chir min dok pe chandru sembar. Oh yeah, he also says sang gyi yen che. Yeah.

But he also says unstoppable. So I went and checked it out and apparently eighth level bodhisattva above and above are also called unstoppable. Yeah, okay.

Then I wang to pe chandru. And there's reasons for that. chok pe sembar.

dra chung pe gyu kyi I'm just wondering... Well, I'm not going to go there. dra chung pe gyu kyi nang she gyepo There's an important mistake here, I think.

Yeah, wow. It's not gyepo. It's gyepa.

Oh, the eight? Not all eight? Huge difference.

Are you sure? Yeah. Because then the whole thing makes sense.

Okay. That doesn't mean it's... Okay.

I mean, just try it on. It's like a pair of jeans, okay? Just try it on.

You can put a question mark. Just PA. Just PA.

Yeah. And put a question mark. So what it says now, if you say gyepa, it says the consciousness number eight in the mind of an unstoppable power achiever bodhisattva and a full arhat, right?

With BUM PO LHAG MED. And he, by the way, he doesn't want to say that word, so he leaves it out. de la nami kyi nang she dang You can call their eight one nami kyi nang she.

The ripened consciousness. The ripened part of the refrigerator, but empty. Okay?

He says if it makes you feel more comfortable, call it the empty refrigerator. Or, since they can still have sam kyi mi kyape chi po-wa, Since they can still have thoughts? Since they can still have a kind of death, which is inconceivable.

Oh, that's inconceivable. How's one more? Since they do have a kind of death, which is inconceivable, and what he's saying is it's not a normal death.

They are an arhat. They did overcome death. They did overcome the four demons, including death.

But they do have this extraordinary moving on to a wonderful place. But we don't call it death. Okay?

Yeah, death and moving on, chi po-wa. Yeah. And the po-wa is important.

There is something which does go on. Okay? And what Tsongkhapa is saying is you are going to have to give a name to the part of their mind that goes on.

Let's call it lenpay nam she. Okay? Which means birth lenpay nam she.

Okay? Or next existence lenpay nam she. Let's not call it rebirth.

Okay? He said, he says, look, those high bodhisattvas and those arhats, they do have an eighth slot. Okay?

They do have an eighth consciousness. But not the bak chak part of the kun shi, just the numbing part of the kun shi. Okay?

So they don't have any more seeds, but they do have the refrigerator. And not only that, they do go on. So you have to posit an eighth awareness which takes rebirth, but it's not rebirth.

It's going to some amazing place. She ser. So we can speak of those two kinds of number eight.

You can call it the ripened part of the kun shi, the refrigerator, or you can call it the state of mind that takes the next paradisiacal birth. But please don't call it kun shi. Yeah, please don't call it kun shi.

Okay? He says they still have consciousness number eight, but we're not going to call it kun shi. Okay, that's amazing.

Yeah, it is amazing. And if we didn't notice that gye pa, we'd be in trouble. Can it be saying, they do have all eight, and of the all eight, the ripened consciousness, and then going into detail about that?

I think gye pa works a hell of a lot better. Okay, I just had one more. I bet you can find it somewhere.

By the way, if these kind of problems persist in a text, it makes me wonder who was reading it for the last few hundred years. Okay, anyway. All right, here we go.

Okay. Who's going to... Okay.

Whoa. What's it literally say? If you speak in this manner, then those who obtain power and arhats also don't have a mind, also don't have a mind.

They don't have a mind. He didn't say kun shi here. Let's see.

Let's see if he... Let's see if he's got some kind of clarification. I'm sure he knows he's ruffled our feathers with this sentence.

Let's see if he makes up with us.

[Speaker 2]
That's my homework.

[Speaker 1]
Nice, nice job. Nice job. Good job.

It'd be nice for you to check that gye pa, by the way, in another text or something. Okay. I'll see if I can crash it.

There was a guy, he fixed my air conditioner one time, and he said, we got to talking in Rimrut, and he said... He also... He said, do you know there's an airport in Rimrut?

And I said, no, I never heard of that. And there is a landing strip in Rimrut, and he has the only plane there. And he said, we got to talking because I was complaining about it took me eight hours to get to Diamond Mountain.

And he said, well, I'll just fly you, you know. I'll fly you for free. We can land in the desert next to Diamond Mountain.

Don't do it. I'm like... Don't do it, Paul.

I'm thinking of all these rock stars who died in little planes, you know. Thank you. David Music died.

And I said, did you ever fall down? Did you ever have a problem? He said, well, yeah.

One time I crashed landing in the desert, and I'm like, you know what? I think I'll drive. Thanks, Paul.

Yes, thank you. Good call. You stay on the ground.

You want to go deeper in that discussion, I'll tell you about the famous bank robbery that used that airport. Okay. I think it's the oldest airport.

Oh, here's where I proved that Chirmedope is... What do you call it? Same as Huantopa, okay?

Okay. And you can read through that in your spare time between... I saw it as one of the 70 dens...

What is it? How do you say? Topics.

Yeah. Yeah. So here's two citations that talk about...

They equate Huantopa with Chirmedope. Okay?

[Speaker 3]
Did we do the two sections before this bit that you just pasted in?

[Speaker 1]
I think we did. Oh. Maybe not.

Yeah, we finished it. Oh, no, we didn't do that. No, Ward just did it.

[Speaker 3]
No, he didn't. His is further down.

[Speaker 1]
No, he did these two first.

[Speaker 3]
No, he started with Marco, didn't you, Ward?

[Speaker 1]
No, I started with the quotes from the summary. You did?

[Speaker 3]
Oh, gosh. Okay, sorry, sorry, sorry.

[Speaker 1]
So, Ward, I think it's a good time to go to the... I got you a nice piece that I think you should... Yeah.

Here's... I got the whole thing for you. It's from the Yogacara Bhumi, okay?

And... which has five sections in it, so it's from a certain section, and I thought if you read the whole thing, it's going to make everything clear, okay? And these include the five occasions on which technically you don't have a normal consciousness.

It's that mood where you don't have normal consciousness. And I think we'll get the two kinds of meditation we couldn't remember here. Okay.

Oh, you want to pick on somebody? Always.

[Speaker 2]
I don't know.

[Speaker 1]
I got to go up and fix that game, by the way. Where is that? Oh, it's...

Is that below? Right above...

[Speaker 3]
Right underneath where you said, GMR checked to hear 112.

[Speaker 1]
I'm going to... Hang on. What you do is you just search for gi.

And Ili, do you want to read? We're going to find our spot here. Hold, please.

And then I'll say check... Word will check some carving. We're having a hard time finding scans again.

Hard time finding what scans? Yeah, I know. I'm sorry about that.

I think people are afraid of this book. Okay. Who's reading?

Anna is. Anna Ili. Ili is speaking.

Michael? I don't hear anything. Your microphone is not doing anything.

Does it do something? Yeah, good.

[Speaker 3]
Yay! Sorry.

[Speaker 1]
NAM PAR ZHES PA DANG LDAN PA DE YANG KUN ZHI NAM PAR ZHES PA DANG YANG LDAN PA YIN NAM ZHES NA Very nice. Really nice. I don't know where it is.

Looks like your class is working. NAM PAR ZHES PA By the way, this guy... What's he really asking, to put it into the language we've been using today?

When do you got a kun zhi that... And when... When is your kun zhi doing stuff and when is your normal consciousness doing stuff?

Yeah, and what are the permutations? He's asking that. And then the answer is hey, there's mu zhi.

There's four permutations. Yeah, so here we go. KUN ZHI NAM PAR ZHES PA DANG LDAN PA The guy has kun zhi.

ZHES PA NAM PAR ZHES PA DANG YANG LDAN They also have normal consciousness. And on the other hand, somebody who has normal consciousness and also has KUN ZHI NAM PAR ZHES PA Are there some kind of permutations? How many combinations we got here?

And the answer is... Well, there's four combinations. Yeah, all four.

You have one, you don't have two, you have two, you don't have one, you have one and two, and you don't have one or two. Okay. Who are you going to pick on?

Who am I going to call? You got to save these videos of Sushumna in class at age... What is it?

Four months or something? Yeah, five months-ish. She's going to love it when she's older.

I will... Vanessa? Thank you.

You're welcome. A word. Translate.

KUN ZHI NAM PAR ZHES PA DANG LDAN PA KUN ZHI NAM PAR ZHES PA DANG LDAN PA When you have a KUN ZHI, and you do not have the six... Good. Yeah.

Here's the first move. You do have KUN ZHI, but you don't have normal awareness, normal sense awareness, basically. We're including mental sense.

Here's five occasions. These are nice little pieces to torture your students with. Yeah, I like to torture them with long pieces.

Short ones are good too. Joy? Can you speak?

I know you're translating.

[Speaker 2]
Can you hear me?

[Speaker 1]
Yeah. Thank you.

[Speaker 2]
The first one, right?

[Speaker 1]
Yes, please. You can do all of them. Just do the five to make it easy.

Only Chinese people are so polite that when you torture them, they thank you. Go ahead.

[Speaker 2]
NI NI LO PA SEMS MED PA DANG Yeah.

[Speaker 1]
Let's translate it. Thank you. Wait, you have to do more, you have to do more, but we're going to try.

You're not done, Joy. You don't have a mind when you're sleeping. Yeah, when you are in deep sleep, you don't have gross sense awareness.

Right? Okay. That's the first of the five occasions when you do have KUN ZHI, but you don't have gross sense awareness.

Okay, what's the second one? We need someone to read, Joy. Mm-hmm.

[Speaker 2]
JE PA DGE BA DGE BA YOD PA YOD PA SEMS MED PA DANG Yeah.

[Speaker 1]
If you just fainted, you don't have a mind. Yeah, like you just saw how much taxes they took out of your paycheck, and you fall down unconscious. Then you don't have, you still have KUN ZHI, but you don't have normal sense consciousness.

All right. Number three, who's going to read, Word? Joyce has volunteered to read all of these.

Whoa, yay, Joy. DU SHES MED PA YONG PA YONG YONG PA YOD PA DANG Yeah, and by the way, there's the first of the two meditations we were talking about when you don't have normal sense consciousness. Yeah.

The conceptionless Yeah. Meditation. Yeah, and it just means you're in a very deep meditation, and you can't, you're not thinking normal thoughts anymore.

You don't have normal awareness anymore. But you still have KUN ZHI. KUN ZHI, okay.

Here's number four situation, Joy.

[Speaker 2]
Thank you, Grandpa.

[Speaker 1]
MED YONG BA'I PHYI MED YONG BA'I PHYI KHOR PA'I YONG PA ZHUGS PA LA YONG PA ZHUGS PA DANG Good, and that's the second kind of meditation where you don't have any gross consciousness, and you're in some kind of state of cessation, right? Yeah. Okay, but you still have KUN ZHI.

Okay, that's the last one.

[Speaker 2]
DU SHES MED PA'I SEMS CAN NAM KYIS NANG THU KHAD PA'O Nice job.

[Speaker 1]
Nice job on all five. Thank you for your teaching. This is actually, you've taken birth in the formless realm?

Yeah, I think it's some kind of high formless realm, and you don't have the mental function of conception. Yeah, you can't even think of any thought, clear thought. And that's not a meditation.

It's the karmic result of that meditation. Exactly. So there's five situations where you have a KUN ZHI, but you don't have normal awareness.

So we covered the first MU. You still have KUN ZHI, but you don't have regular sensing. And there's five situations where that could be true.

Now we go to the second MU, which I have called B. By the way, Keshe-la, I think that that was also the name of the other sense-shutdown meditation that you were looking for. Yeah.

DU SHES MED PA'I KHYING YOM JUNG Yeah, number three is one of the worms. Number four is the other one of the worms. And number five is the karmic result of number three, where you're that way all the time.

Okay, cool. All right, word. Who's doing B?

We. I don't know. I'm looking for people.

Haso can. Haso, you want to do it? Yay, Haso.

Okay, number B? Letter B. Haso, are you under a big pile of snow?

Yeah. Outside. Very big.

Do you think you can travel today? Or not? Probably yes.

I'll see, but yeah. Okay, don't do it if it's dangerous, okay? Just stay home.

Okay, here we go. Okay. It says, NYUGS PA'I RNAM PAR BSHAD PA DANG DEN LA GUNG ZHIG RNAM PAR BSHAD PA DANG MI DEN DEN LA MUG DUGS PHAE SEM YOD PA'I LE KAP PHA DRA CHUM PA DANG RANG SANG YE DANG CHIR MIEN DURG PAI CHANG JUP SEM PA DANG DE SHING ZHIG BAO Yeah, and this one.

It seems to help. I hope it helps. Yeah.

What's the mood, what's this mood, Wern? The mood of having regular sense consciousnesses, but not having foundation consciousness. Yeah, you don't have kunshi, but you have regular sense consciousness.

And then a very important qualifier. Sem yupe nekab na. But you have a mind.

During parts of the day when they do have conscious thought, and that's meant to disqualify these five, okay? They're not in deep sleep. They're not in deep meditation.

They're not a person in the high formless realm, okay? Assuming they don't have, assuming none of those five situations is applied to them at that moment, then we can say drachombas. Arhats.

Rang sang gye also means drachomba, right? Right, so the first one might be more listener arhat. Exactly.

And then chirman dope chandri sembas. Unstoppable bodhisattvas, meaning bodhisattvas on the eighth level on up. Who are power holders.

And de shin shekpas. Buddhas. Now, let's stop and think about that.

Is that true? They have normal awarenesses, but they don't have kunshi. Well, it's kind of the thing we're talking about, so I don't know if it's true according to the Mind-Only School or not, but...

Yeah. At least they have one without a slot. Yeah, so they only have seven, right?

Yeah, something like that. But that's against Dharmakabba. Okay, anyway, let's go to the third mukha.

All right. Who's going to read that? Well, well, well, well, well, well, well, venerable Kadi.

Thank you. Good morning. Diamond Mountain Yogis.

Good morning, Dharmakabba. Please.

[Speaker 3]
Ni kathang denpa ni sim yupe ne kap de le shampadang nao, thag nao.

[Speaker 1]
Yay! Thank you. Okay.

Should I translate again? Yeah, but I think there's a big mistake here. You think it should be sim mepe?

Yeah, I'm thinking... Okay, let's figure it out. Because the next one is neither, so this is yupe.

No, he says other than sim mepe. Other than. You see what I mean?

Oh, okay. Let's throw it out. Let's talk about it.

Okay, let's talk about it. Ni ka, both. And you have both kunshi and normal sense consciousness.

All the situations other than what? Other than the situations I just described in A and B and the five permutations of A. Not really, because it's number four.

But anyway, can we say that you have both kunshi and normal awareness in situations other than situations where you have a mind? Other than situations... You see, it's got to say other than situations where you don't have a mind.

Isn't it saying in other situations than situations where you have a mind from what I just described? Isn't the other referring to the previous two, Mu? Yeah, well, no, I think it's referring to...

Well, personally, I think it's referring to the five situations where you don't have awareness. I don't know, because I thought in what we just did in Jason Koppa's book that that's what it was. By the way, as far as people, who is number three referring to?

Let's go that way. Everyone, pretty much. Yeah, everybody, except high spiritual practitioners.

They have both going on. Both are... He should have said normal people who are not in the five situations where they have no awareness.

Normal awareness, right? Well, I think that's what he is saying, right, Nika? Both?

They have both. That part's clear, but then he says who are other than people who are having a mind? I don't know about the grammar as well as you do, Genev, obviously, but I thought the answer was other than shenpa tak, other than those two earlier.

Oh, yeah, I mean, de le shenpa dak no. Sem yupe neka de le. I don't know.

No, it still doesn't make sense. Okay. By the way, do they have sem in A and B?

They have sem in B, not A. Good, yeah, okay. This is time, guys.

We're over, just noticed. Let's finish this last one and we'll go. Anyway, C refers to normal people.

Yeah. That's clear. It'd be interesting to go find it in some other tengyur.

How about that? Can you find another tengyur? Nick's good at that, by the way.

This is dergye tengyur. Maybe you can find it in the nartang or the sirti. Okay, and we'll see.

Or maybe there's a Sanskrit. Let's go quickly through number four, Nick. Nika, I mean, because it's important to wrap up words classes, I think, right?

Yes.

[Speaker 3]
It's important.

[Speaker 1]
Where is it when you don't have either kunshi or normal consciousness? Drachomba? Listener arhats.

Rangsang gi. Self-made Buddha arhats. Khyermen Dobayi Chandu Simbas.

Bodhisattvas that have reached the stage of unstoppableness. Deshan Shekpas. Those thus-gone Buddhists.

Yeah, who don't have normal consciousness by virtue of the fact that they are in one of those five states where you don't have normal consciousness. So he says, look, these high spiritual practitioners, normally their sense consciousnesses are working, but they can also be in a deep cessation meditation on emptiness where their five senses are not working. So when they're in that situation, we say they are the mu where you have neither kunshi or normal consciousness, okay?

And if they happen to have lost all their heaps. If they've reached nirvana with no remainder. Yeah, if they're staying in that yin.

That realm of is. Embracing Sedona Vortex. Okay, good.

Nice job. Do you want to give a small wrap up for us? Sure.

So Jason Coppola finished his section where he was speaking about why it is the case that even though you have all eight consciousnesses, in a sense, you still don't have a foundation consciousness. And he clarifies to me that there's no object by which it is pointed at. And he gives cases of beings that do not have this problem.

And those are bodhisattvas who have reached the eighth level on up, as well as arhats. And he's speaking about arhats that are still around, right? That have remained or clock-shaped.

And so then he goes and he says, I'm right about this. And he goes into the permutations about how someone, beings that have foundation consciousness and have regular sense consciousnesses. So permutation one, beings that have a foundation consciousness that don't have regular permutations, regular consciousness, there are five, sleeping, fainting, two types of meditation and being born in a realm where you don't think at all.

And then beings that have, don't have a foundation consciousness, that's basically buddhas. And beings that have both, that's regular folk and beings that have neither. And that is listener arhats and self-made buddha arhats, unstoppable bodhisattvas and buddhas that are in cessation meditation or arhats that have no remaining.

Nice. By the way, who is he quoting? Who wrote what he quoted just now?

Arya Sangha? Yeah, so if a sangha don't know what's up, then who does? Okay, that's all.

All right, nice job. Back to you, Mr. Nick. Oh, word, word for next time.

These two next paragraphs, okay, de na and de tar na, and then you're going to answer this question I have for you. I just saw that. I'm coming.

Okay, all right. That gives you something cool to do next time. Uncle Nick, back to you.

Five minutes, guys, five minutes. For? Squeeze it in, for a break.

And then we have, I'm checking the schedule now for- We have Q&A with somebody. And while Nick is checking, I am going to teach an extra alphabet class tomorrow because somebody asked me to teach grammar and I'm going to teach you some. Nice.

Okay, so this morning- It's you, Nick. Is Q&A with moi. Oh.

And then we have yoga with Anatole. And after that, you can stick around for, the schedule says Alex, but actually Nicole is going to cover yoga this time, Nicole Majewski. Is Amalie going to help with the Q&A?

She won't be up. Oh, she's not here. Hopefully not.

I guess. We'll see how it goes. But thank you so much for class, Kesha and Ward.

Nice job, Ward. And everybody. Thank you for teaching, Ward.

Thanks, Ken. Thank you for teaching. Please stay.

I'm trying. Please stay. See you guys soon.

Have fun. Okay, bye.
