I have to keep fast because otherwise you won't finish your homework. Okay, let's go, let's go. Okay, everybody in this class will get a free copy of How Yoga Works.

Do you have a copy somewhere? Where is that? Oh, in that book.

Can I borrow? Okay, this book is a very nice summary of Yoga Sutra. It's in a novel form, okay?

It's like a story. Somebody made a movie of it in Hollywood actually, but it's not out yet. But it's a very nice story and in the story you can learn the Yoga Sutra, okay?

Then we also did a translation of Yoga Sutra. I ran out of books, so I printed it for you. So you get both books.

This little book is difficult and difficult to digest. This book is easy. But you start with this one and then go to the other one.

So we're giving everybody both books. We are losing money on this class. Why?

I'm trying to be easy. I'm not stupid. Okay, no stupid.

[Говорящий 2]
This is your answer, basically.

[Говорящий 1]
Yeah, I'm giving an answer. I contacted the office of Kriyayoga. I said, I'm going to give away the books.

Then they said, no, no, you're going to lose money. I said, you don't understand. Alright, here we go.

We're on Chapter 2, verse 14. Say, Thehada.

[Говорящий 2]
Thehada. Thehada.

[Говорящий 1]
Pari. Tapa. Pala.

Punya. Hetadvad. So we were talking about how to plant a seed to make husband work for you.

Or you can use it to make money. Or you can use it to make your husband work for you. Or you can use it to fix your husband.

All the seeds, everything is coming from the seeds. So in this verse, he begins, Patanjali begins explaining how to make the seed grow fast. Thehada pari tapa pala punya punya hetadvad.

Hada means cool. Anybody know Russian language? How do you say?

In Russian how do you say cold? Cold? Cold enough.

Same root. Sanskrit came into Russian. So hot means cool.

Thehada pari tapa. What's tapas? It means heat.

Tapas came from that. Tapas means heat. Thehada pari tapa means cool and hot.

Pala means fruit. Punya punya means help other people or hurt other people. Hetadvad means there's a cause.

Cause and effect. If you help other people, you will get pari tapa. Hot result.

Sorry, if you hurt other people. If you help other people, you will get hada. You will get cool result.

It means pleasant result. So this is the first rule of how to make seeds grow fast. Because the last verse said, darshta darshta janma vedanya.

Which means maybe you have to wait till the next line. It's too slow. So we want darshta.

Darshta means we want result at this line. So we have to understand the technique of planting the seed. Many people are giving money, they don't make money.

Many people are helping sick people, they get sick also. There must be some technique. There must be some way to plant the seed.

And that is understanding how to plant the seed. So here is the first rule. Punya punya hetadvad.

Punya means if you help other people, good thing will come to you. Punya, if you hurt other people, bad thing will come to you. If you plant a shikwa, you will get?

Watermelon. If you plant a watermelon, you will get watermelon. That's good luck, right?

That's good news. The farmer doesn't have to worry if they plant rice, they are going to get mango. No, you are laughing, but it's a first principle.

If you want to learn how to change your life, make things happen in your life, you must learn the principles of farming. And that begins with the very first principle. You get what you plant.

And you can't change that. If you plant a mango, you are going to get mango. If you plant a shikwa, you are going to get shikwa.

If you take the last yogyakawa, if you take the last donut, then people will take from you. It's not like you are going to get something. You don't get anything.

If you don't share things with other people, people won't share things with you. Because the cause is not sharing, and the result is not sharing. That's very most basic principle of technique.

Why are we talking about technique? We want to make things happen faster. You don't want to share something with somebody, and then nothing happens for three lifetimes.

I had a very good question during the break. And it's a very, very important question. And you have to understand this question.

Somebody said, Geshe Michael, you keep talking about giving something to other people, so I can get something back. This is dirty giving. This is not good giving.

You are just giving yogyakawa, because you want ten more. You are not thinking the other person maybe enjoys them, or the other person is hungry. You just want to make something for yourself.

If you think like that, it's apunya. It's a mistake. Something bad will happen.

If you are thinking, I just want something for myself, and I don't care about the other person, then you won't get, it won't come. It won't come that way. You have to expand your thinking.

You have to expand your thinking. If I walk into a donut shop, and there is one donut left there, in this system, and somebody else walks in with me and they want it, in this system, what should I do? I should give it to them.

Why?

[Говорящий 2]
That's the only way to get it.

[Говорящий 1]
That's the only way to get one. Are they happy?

[Говорящий 2]
Yes.

[Говорящий 1]
Will I get donuts back? A lot more. How many people are happy?

Two. Is that a problem? Don't think the old way.

Stop thinking like that. They have to be happy, or I have to be happy. Don't think like that.

Share with them. They will be happy. And then something will come to you and you will be happy.

It's not wrong. If you do it properly, they will get something, and you will get something. Both will be happy.

With money. I'll ask you, what will happen in this world if everybody believes the only way to get money is to give other people money? What will happen in this world?

[Говорящий 2]
Everybody will get money.

[Говорящий 1]
All the givers will get more. All the people who receive the money will get more. Is that a problem?

Is there any problem there? It's not a problem. And actually, the value of the world economy will rise.

It's not a system where you are taking from somebody else or you are distributing wealth differently. You are creating new wealth. And there's no limit to that.

If people keep giving, the money will keep increasing. You know? We were very happy when we hit one million dollars.

We had a big party in our office. Okay? Then we hit 250.

Okay. It's just going to keep going like that. You can't stop it.

It will just keep growing like crazy. You can't stop it. And it will grow for everybody in the world.

You see? Then poor people will become very, what do you call it? Desirable objects.

You see? There will be long lines of people waiting for poor people. I'm sorry.

I have to take a number to give money to this person. I found them first. I'm giving the money.

We have in New York, we have a center in New York and many places. And it's very funny when you go out to dinner, everybody is fighting to get the check. And then, because they understand.

And then, so some person started to, they say, I have to go to the bathroom. I have to go to the toilet. Then when they go to the toilet, other people thought he's cheating me.

We call karma pig.

[Говорящий 2]
He's a karma pig.

[Говорящий 1]
He's a vegan karma pig. Then people started to go to the restaurant early to pay the bill before the other people come. Then everybody found out they were doing that.

Now, the day before, everybody goes to the restaurant and they pay the bill. So, try to imagine. People think how happy the world will be if this system becomes popular.

How will it become popular? Just try it. If it works, then everyone is going to do it.

I'm not going to force you. Just try it. Try some small experiment.

Give something to somebody that you want. And then, with the technique, I'm going to teach you how to, what do you call it, come off your head if you don't accept the system. We just teach it.

And then you try it. And if it works, then try it more. That's all.

So try it. You will see. Next verse.

So that's the first rule of all. What you want. Give something similar.

Things come from the same thing. If you want a shikha, you have to plant a shikha. If you want money, give money.

If you want a partner, help lonely people. If you want your asana to improve, help someone who is sick. Then go to practice class.

After that, plant the seed first. Then go to the yoga class. No, really.

If you go to the yoga class without the seed, you will hurt your neck. Then go to the yoga class. You get the kind of thing which you get.

That's the first rule. So now you don't have to come to me after the class and say, I want this. What should I do?

What you want, give the same kind of thing to somebody else. I want my partner to be more affectionate. I have a friend.

He doesn't like to hug his wife. Then the wife wants to snuggle. She says, can we snuggle?

Then he says, you're a snuggle Nazi. You're always forcing me to snuggle. If you want your husband to snuggle you more, you have to be more warm and friendly to other people.

It doesn't mean snuggle with somebody else's wife.

[Говорящий 2]
That's not the cause.

[Говорящий 1]
But you have to be more friendly. You be more affectionate to other people. Then you can fix your husband.

You see? It's very nice because you don't have to talk to him. You don't have to convince him about anything.

When you understand this system, what you want, you do for others first. And then what you want will come. And actually you can't stop it.

I went to Don Mitchell's class in New York, not so long ago. And some guy came up to me. He said, after the class, okay, first of all, I don't belong in Don Mitchell's class and I can't do yoga anymore.

But anyway, I went because I like to be tortured. And then he, this guy came up, shook my hand. He said, my name is John.

I said, glad to meet you. He said, I'm nice to meet you. And I said goodbye.

Then I got an email from him. I told this story last night, right? I forget.

So many countries. So I got an email from him. I don't know how I got my email.

But it's Geshe Michael's email, okay? So it's not so secret. Then he sent me an email.

He said, why didn't you thank me? Why you didn't thank me? Then I wrote him an email.

I said, for what? Then he wrote me back an email. He said, I always have this bag with me.

Hopefully. Where is it? I don't know.

I have a backpack. Wei Qi has it, okay? Like, there's the backpack, okay?

That's my whole office. Everything is in there. There's a hundred thousand scriptures in there.

In the computer, okay? Really. And I carry it with me all the time.

And then, he said, look in your bag. So I opened the bag. That bag looks like your purse, okay?

It has too many things. Then I found an envelope. In the envelope is a hundred thousand dollars.

Okay? Then I wrote him an email. Thank you.

But then I asked him, I don't even know you. I never met you before. Why did you do that?

What's the money? He said, you use it for anything. You just have it.

And then I said, well, why did you do it? He said, well, I've never met you. And he just felt like giving it.

You see, if you follow these principles, if you share things with other people, punya punya hetupa, choose what you want, give something which is the same kind of thing, you cannot stop the result from coming. Okay? In a yoga class, you pay ten dollars, you get a hundred thousand.

Okay? Like that. Very strange things will happen, okay?

I'll ask you a question. If you have a shikua zongzi, if you have the seed for watermelon, if you plant it, if you put the correct water, if you put the fertilizer, if you have sunlight, what will happen?

[Говорящий 2]
Watermelon.

[Говорящий 1]
It will grow. God cannot stop it. Okay?

Nobody. Buddha cannot stop it. If the seed is planted properly, and if the seed is taken care of, you can't stop it.

No one can stop it. People misquote the Bhagavad Gita to me, and they say, Krishna told Arjuna, don't hope for results. You can't help it.

It will come. The result will come. You can't stop it.

You can't run. You can run, but you can't hide. They won't put money in your backpack in yoga class.

No, really, it's like that. So, what you want, the first rule is, what you want, do the similar thing to somebody else. That's the first rule.

Okay, let's go to the next page. parinama-tapas-tasgara-duhkhara-guna-vritya-virobhasha-duhkha-merasarvam-vide-karam This is about the seeds for suffering, but let's use it to talk about this. Somebody asked me during the break, and I'm going to ask you a question.

When you plant a watermelon, okay, shikwa, and you put the jongsu in the ground, tu, you plant the seed in the ground. And when the watermelon grows, what happens to that seed?

[Говорящий 2]
It finishes.

[Говорящий 1]
Huh? It finishes. Yeah, it finishes.

The growing of the thing kills the seed of the thing. When a tree grows from a seed of a tree, that kills the seed of the tree. The growing of the tree kills the seed of the tree.

In our system, we say the growing of the tree also kills the tree. It's very profound. The growing of a tree kills the tree.

What causes the death of a person? Their birth. The birth of a person guarantees that they're going to die.

Once you are born, you will die. Once the tree grows, it will stop. One day it will die.

It will fall down. It doesn't need anything else except the growing to kill the tree. If the bugs don't come, or the lightning doesn't come, or the wind doesn't kill the tree, the growing of the tree will kill the tree.

In time. Given time. So let's say I want money.

And I give some money to somebody. With proper technique, which you are going to learn, and I didn't teach you the whole technique yet, okay? So don't just give away money, because nothing will come, and you will call me stupid.

If I give money, if I give $1,000, and $10,000 comes back, what happens to the seed? It's killed by the $10,000. The seed which I planted is killed when the result comes to me.

The guy gave me $100,000 in my backpack. It kills the seed. If I want more, what do I have to do with what I got?

I have to share more. I have to reinvest. I must reinvest.

What this verse is saying is that the seed for a thing kills the seed. When you get the result, the seed is killed. You must take what you got and share more.

Share it again. I'll give another example. Jessica Kun.

She's a friend of ours in New York. Maybe you know her. She's a yoga teacher.

Pretty well-known yoga teacher. She teaches in Shanghai, and she came to me. She said, Geshe-la, I want to find a partner.

I need a partner. And I said, she's like, should I go on the internet or should I go to the yoga class? Where will I find one?

People, I'm a monk, right? I can't wear my robes. But anyway, so, people always come in to me, do more.

We take some sticks, and sometimes you take the bone from a sheep's joint, and you, like this, then you have to go, then you have to go, you have to say many strange words. Then I said, internet, not good. Don't do internet.

Then she's like, okay, okay, I won't do it. Then I said, yoga class. Also not in the yoga class.

Then she's like, okay, not in yoga class. Then she's like, where is he? Then I said, I turned the bones, you know, oh, yes!

Then she said, yes! Yes! Then she said, where is he?

I said, you have to go to nursing home. Old people's home. Where did you, what do you call it in Hong Kong?

Nursing home? You have to go to nursing home. Then she's like, you don't like when a dog is confused?

She's like, she goes, Geshe-la, I said, what? She said, you don't understand. I said, what?

She said, Geshe-la, I want a young boy. And I said, no, no, Geshe-la, you don't understand. What you want, you have to plant that thing.

What you want, you have to plant that thing. Shikuwa makes shikuwa, mango makes mango. Why do you want a boy?

Ask her, why do you want a boy? She said, I don't want to be no man. You know, I come home, I have to go shopping for the food.

I come home, I cook the dinner. For what? 45 minutes?

Shopping takes 45 minutes? Half an hour? Come home, cook the food.

Takes 45 minutes. Eating takes 5. Eating takes 5 minutes.

You know that. They clean up? Again, half hour.

Really? It's like 2 hours. Waste of time.

Why? So I can eat for 5 minutes by myself. I sit by myself at the table and eat my dinner.

I'm lonely. It's a lonely. It's not fun to cook for an hour, eat for 5 minutes, clean for an hour.

It's lonely. Then I said, so what you want, you want companionship. You want someone to spend your life with.

She said, that's right. So I said, you don't want to be lonely, you have to do what?

[Говорящий 2]
Give company.

[Говорящий 1]
You have to give company. That means you have to find a lonely person. A lonely person.

Then lonely people will become very valuable. There will be many lines at the nursing home. I'm sorry, she can't see you today because she's busy.

I have one. I'm not telling you where she is. I have one.

I took care of her for 20 years. She's 85 now. Right now, Adriana Caravazos is installing a new stair rail at her house.

Right now. Why? Because I want to have a beautiful relationship.

I already have a beautiful relationship. But why am I doing another staircase? I have to keep going.

I have to keep going. The nature of a relationship is that the beginning of the relationship destroys the relationship. All relationships must get old.

Shih Kua grows from the watermelon growth. If you leave it there, it will rot. You have to take the new seeds out of the watermelon and replant those seeds and you'll have another watermelon.

So, Jessica... Okay, I didn't finish the story. It's a nice story.

So, Jessica went to Los Angeles. She did... I told my friends, she's very strange.

They said, she's not so strange. They know her, right? She's not so strange.

I said, no, no. She's very strange. They said, what's strange about her?

I said, she always does what I tell her to do. This is unusual. Very strange student.

Then she went and she took care of some old people. Then she went to L.A. to teach yoga class. The class was full and they closed the door.

You know, she's always looking a little bit there's not so many boys in the uniform. Then the door opened. The door opened.

Okay, Stephan. They know him. You know Stephan?

Yeah. So, anyway, door opened. There's Stephan, you know.

Then Stephan sees her. He goes, ah. Then she saw Stephan.

Ah. Like that. Love at first sight.

Then they called me after six months. Did you go to the wedding? Yeah.

We were all there. Then they called me and they said, we need a model. I said, why?

They said, we want to get married. Then I married them in New York. And it was fun.

And so it works, okay? But then I told her, don't dump the old lady. Otherwise, you know, the relationship will get off.

And you know, you had so many relationships. The first six months is very exciting. He's writing you many poems.

[Говорящий 2]
Right?

[Говорящий 1]
And he's taking you to movies and he's taking you to dinner. After three years, he won't take you anywhere. He's always complaining.

No, it's true. You had it. The seed dies.

By, when you met your partner, you killed the seed to meet him. By meeting him. And then it must give off.

So I told Jessica, the smart thing to do, take your partner, Stefan, and go together to the nursing home. Okay? That's a smart thing to do.

Really. I'm not kidding. And then it will stay.

The relationship will stay strong. Otherwise, it must die. It must give off.

I don't think arguing is bad, okay? It's bad to argue with a partner after one year or something. That's bad.

But boring is worse. You know? We, they tell you, did I tell you this joke?

And you say, yes, you told me twelve times. Yeah, but did I tell you about what I did with my brother when I was in sixth grade? You told me that fifty times.

You know? And then there's nothing new. You know?

It just gets more and more boring, you know? Like, what are we going to do? Let's go to a movie.

Let's have dinner. You know? And then, it doesn't feel like excitement anymore.

That, then you have to have to help someone who's lonely. It doesn't have to, somebody told me, do they have to be lonely? I mean, it doesn't have to be an old person.

I said, no, no. I mean, it could be a child, right? And children also.

Parents are all working. They're not spending any time with their children. And children are also lonely.

Right? So, you can find a child. If you can't find an old person, you can find a child.

I was in Detroit. They asked me to come. They said, all the companies failed.

The automobile companies failed. Many people don't have work. Half the buildings are empty.

You can go to Detroit. You can walk into a house. You can sleep there.

Nobody cares. They leave the door open. Because nobody wants to stay there.

There's no work. There's no job. They just bankrupt the, what do you call it, foreclosed the house.

And they don't even lock the door. We can go and sleep. We sleep there.

Just walk in a mansion. There's areas of Detroit in mansions. You can just walk in and sleep there.

Because nobody wants to live there. So they asked me, will you come and give a talk to the unemployed people? So I did.

We gave a nice talk. Then that last day, some guy raised his hand. The guy at River.

He was so funny. He raised his hand. He said, I have good news.

I said, what's the good news? He said, I got it. I got it.

I said, what? He said, I found somebody. They are old and lonely.

[Говорящий 2]
They are sick.

[Говорящий 1]
Also, they are sick. And also, they don't have any money. So, one person, I can get all three things.

He wouldn't tell anybody where is this person. Next verse, okay? What time are we supposed to stop?

[Говорящий 2]
Ten.

[Говорящий 1]
Okay, good. Say, Heyam. Dukham.

Anagatam.

[Говорящий 2]
Heyam. Dukham.

[Говорящий 1]
Anagatam. Heyam means the thing which you have to get rid of. Dukham means suffering, pain.

An means not. Anagatam means it will not come or it is not come yet. This is talking about an idea called the time gap.

And you must understand the time gap. For example, in America, everybody wants to get to... I was in India.

Okay? I went to India many years. And then, my friends were complaining to me about America.

You know, they were saying America is bad country. You are bad people. You know, I said, yeah, that's why we make many mistakes.

We are bad country. And then they said, Russia is a good country. They are...

I said, okay, Russia is good. Then I said, come with me. And we went to the embassy street, all the embassies.

Outside American embassy, there are 3,000 people in line. They are trying to get green card, but visa to go to America. Outside Russian embassy, nobody.

Then I said, okay, then my friend asked me, Geshe-la, I want to come to America. I need green card. Resident, what do you call?

Card. Then I, they said, I have a plan. I said, what's your plan?

They said, I'm going to find a girl. I'm going to give her 5,000 dollars. She's going to marry me.

American girl. Then I can get a green card. Is that okay, Geshe-la?

Then I said, why do you want to do that? Why do you want to lie? And they said, because I can get a green card.

Then I said, can lying be a cause of a green card? Can a mango cause a watermelon? Can a lemon cause a watermelon?

Lemon is, first of all, lemon is not a watermelon. Second of all, lemon tastes bad, watermelon tastes sweet. Am I right?

Lemon seed cannot cause a watermelon. It's not possible. And lying cannot cause a good result.

It's not possible. Then what did he say? What did he say?

Don't be so slow. I said, my friend went last week. He married the girl.

He got a green card. It's not true, Geshe-la. Lying causes a green card.

For my friend, he got a green card. That's a mistaken idea. If you get, if you sex, sorry, if lying about your marriage makes a green card, it should work every time.

If that's the cause of the green card, it should work every time. If the aspirin is the cause to fix the headache, it should work every time. You must try to understand.

If you understand, you can make stuff happen in your life. You can get rich. You can get very strong.

You can have the most beautiful girl in the universe. Okay? You must try to understand.

Aspirin cannot cure the headache. Why? Why?

It doesn't work. Why doesn't it work? Because it doesn't work all the time.

That's all. If something doesn't work all the time, it doesn't work. Try to understand that if something works sometimes, that's not the cause of the headache.

That's just a mistake. That's something else that's happening. Okay?

If I stamp my feet this way, will it rain tonight in Hong Kong? I don't know. Somebody stamped their feet this way, then it rained, and then everybody believed, oh, I should stamp my feet this way.

It's just an accident. It's just random. Okay?

It's just a coincidence. You made a lie, and you got a resident card. The lie didn't cause the resident card.

Because if a lie could cause the resident card, then everybody who lies would get a resident card, but they don't. Okay? No, it's so dumb.

It's so obvious. You know? Just try to understand.

Okay? What will lying cause?

[Говорящий 2]
Bad things.

[Говорящий 1]
What will happen to you? People will lie to you all the time. Okay?

People will lie to you all the time. How big is a Xigua Zongzi compared to the Xigua? How big is a watermelon seed compared to the watermelon?

A hundred times. A hundred times less? A hundred times smaller?

If you lie once, how many people will lie to you?

[Говорящий 2]
A hundred.

[Говорящий 1]
A hundred. Okay? It's worse.

Okay? The growing thing is the good news. Okay?

If you want to make a thousand dollars, you only have to give a hundred. Otherwise, it's stupid. Give a hundred, get a hundred.

What's the point? Not really. Okay?

The causes are smaller than the results. Also in the money. So, if you want a hundred people to lie to you, then go to the go to the government and lie about your marriage.

Okay? And then, it doesn't cause a green card. It doesn't cause a resident card.

The resident card came after that, but so did the earthquake in Japan. You see, I mean, not everything that came after you lied was caused by your lie. There's just other things happening.

Okay? What would cause you to get a resident card? Help someone else find a home, a place to stay, help your friend, give your friend $25 to pay for their rent.

If they are short for their rent, give them $25. Are you telling me that if I help my friend to pay their rent with $25, I can get a resident card to stay in a country for the rest of my life? Yes.

Can you get a big shikua if you plant a small zhongzi? I mean, yes. That's the way it goes.

So, if you understand how to take care of the sea, small things will cause big things. But don't be fooled by the time gap. You lie, they give you a resident card in an hour.

It's not causing an effect. The lie will cause many lies later. If you got the resident card, it was because you helped somebody else find a place to stay.

Some people lie about their marriage and they don't get a resident card. That's because they didn't help other people find a place to stay. But both people who lied will have many people lying to them in the future.

Okay? Got it? And it's just the time gap that confuses people.

There's a time gap between the time you plant the seed and the time the seed grows. Do come, do come, and I got them. Do come, and I got them.

There's a gap. There's a... You can only stop things in the future.

Right? You can only stop things in the future. What did I say about the yo jiao kuai?

About the donut?

[Говорящий 2]
Give it to someone?

[Говорящий 1]
Yeah, you're walking into a shop, there's one donut and you give it to the old lady who wants a donut. Right? Do you get a donut at that moment?

[Говорящий 2]
No.

[Говорящий 1]
No. You have to wait. The seed has to grow.

Okay? You have to wait. Don't be stupid.

You know? Don't plant a watermelon and stand there. You know?

Wow, people... No, don't... It's not...

It takes some time. Okay? That time gap caused Nagarjuna, who's on the cover.

Okay? Nagarjuna, great thinker. He was living in the time of Patanjali.

He was one of the great thinkers that Patanjali was using. He said, the time gap causes all the suffering in the world. The time gap causes all the suffering in the world.

People ask me, can you kill... Can I... Geshe-la, can I kill insects?

I said, no. They said, yeah, but roaches, can I kill roaches? I said, especially not roaches, this is my name.

Then I said, no, they said, why not? I said, if you step on the insect and your own ribs starts to break, would you do it?

[Говорящий 2]
No.

[Говорящий 1]
You won't do it. It's just the time gap causes trouble. If you lie to somebody in business and at that moment your bank account dropped in half, would you do it?

You see, it's just the time gap causes all the problems. This verse is very important. This verse is very important.

It's about future, okay? Things happen in the future. But, okay, but, I must teach you a technique to make things happen fast or you won't accept the principles.

You see? If I say give money and you're going to get money in six years, then you give money and six years later money comes to you, you won't be able to connect it to what you did before. It has to come fast enough to connect it.

You see what I mean? I have to teach you a technique that you can confirm fairly quickly, okay? Otherwise, you will tell me, oh, it's just a mistake.

It's just good luck. You know, I got some money a year later. It didn't have anything to do with giving money to somebody else, all right?

I need to teach you how to make it happen fast. Okay, next page. I can't remember the rest of the text.

[Говорящий 2]
Okay.

[Говорящий 1]
Bhavanah shchitr prasannam. Bhavanah shchitr prasannam. Things work faster if you do them with love, okay?

The seed will grow faster if you do it with love, all right? And this verse is talking about love. So it's one thing to understand the seeds, but you must cultivate love, okay?

Tatpratishe dhartam is interesting. Tatpratishe dhartam means, if you want to stop those problems. And just before this, he listed a lot of problems.

You know, problems with your health, problems with your husband. He gave a long list of problems. Shvasa for shvasa, you already talked about breathing problems, prana problems, okay?

But then he says here's the antidote. So if you want to speed up the seeds, here's the way, here's the real way, okay? It's called semeshe.

Say semeshe. Semeshe. Semeshe.

Semeshe.

[Говорящий 2]
Semeshe.

[Говорящий 1]
Semeshe.

[Говорящий 2]
Semeshe.

[Говорящий 1]
Semeshe. Semeshe. It means four infinite thoughts.

Four infinite thoughts. Okay? Maitri, Karuna, Mudita, Mudaksha.

These are very famous, all right? What's it? Maitri means I would like to see everybody get what they want.

That's all. Maitri means love. I would like to see everybody get what they want.

And you make it your goal. You make it your goal in life, okay? I would like to see everybody around me, I would like to see them get everything they want.

Just think like that. We oftentimes have the opposite, you see? Somebody says, did you hear, you know, Vicky got a promotion and then we get jealous and we say, I wish she didn't get a promotion.

You see what I Maitri, just be happy when other people get things, okay? It's very, very easy, it's cheap, it doesn't cost you anything. Every time, okay, I'm going to say something important, okay?

Because I made a quarter billion dollar company, you can do it. But here's one trick, it's an easy trick. Be happy, if you are happy, when other people get something they want, you also get a C.

So, and it doesn't cost you anything. You don't have to pay anything. Like, if you want to make a money C, you can give money.

Or you can sit at home and be happy that Vicky got a promotion. And that also plants seeds and they don't cost me anything. That way you can, my company doubled every year for 15 years.

You don't understand what that means. If Pure Yoga has 4 studios this year, next year 8 studios, next year 16, next year 32, next year 64. That's how fast we grow.

How? Secret weapons. Just sit at home.

Be happy. Somebody made money. Even your competitor.

Even your, you know, iPad made money this year. Bill Gates got more money this year. I'm happy.

Because we feel jealous of famous people, right? We hear that Angela Jolie had a fight with Brad Pitt and we feel happy. But be happy when people succeed.

Like, oh, somebody made some money. I'm glad. I'm happy.

Be happy about other people's success. That's my truth. I hope everybody gets what they want.

Karuna is the opposite. What does that mean?

[Говорящий 2]
Yeah.

[Говорящий 1]
Be sorry when other people have a problem. Even if, especially if you don't like them. Especially if it's someone you don't like.

You heard they had a problem? Then be sorry. Go to them, help them, say, I'm sorry, can I help you?

Especially the people you don't like. Be sad about other people's problems. That's Karuna.

I hope nobody in the world gets anything they don't want. That's Karuna. Okay.

Karuna. Mudita is number three. Okay.

Mudita is the third one. Mudita means joy but it's a special kind of joy. We've been talking about three things.

Money. Health. You know, yoga.

Stay young. Stay thin. Stay strong and flexible.

And then relationships, right? Everyone should get the partner that they want. Those are small things.

Those are the beginning. Okay. They are good things.

Okay. You should have them. They are good things.

But then after that you have to work on the big problems. After you get those three you have to work on the big problems. What are the big problems?

War. Hunger. Poverty.

Death. Itself. In the world.

Okay. You have to start... The principles that apply to the aspirin also apply to the aging of your body.

Okay. The principles of the aspirin apply to death itself. Okay.

There are ways to plant seeds to stop death and aging itself. Because that's also just something coming from the seeds. There are ways to stop hunger in the world.

There are ways to stop war in the world. Okay. Alright.

And then you have to work on the big things. That's mudita. Joy.

That's number three. I want to live in a world, you know, okay so I'm in Hong Kong. I have a big car.

I have a big house. My yoga is working. I look great.

And I have the most beautiful partner possible in the universe. I have everything. Isn't he dumb?

Can you be happy with those things? If 10,000 people died yesterday, you know what I mean? You can't.

So as an experiment, get the small things. But then mudita means I want everybody in the world to have the big happiness. The big things, okay?

Like I want the big things. I want the world to have peace. And I want hunger to stop.

And I want poverty to stop. Then somebody asked me a question. Was it last night?

I can't remember which city. Maybe Singapore. But he said, so if there's a war in Iraq right now, it means nobody in the world succeeded in the big things, right?

Okay? He said that. Then I answered him with one of the verses from the Yoga Sutra, and which one?

Ahimsa patishtayam tak saridam paratyagam, right? Tak saridam means for you, violence will stop. For you, violence will stop.

Then he said, what do you mean for you? You mean there's somebody in the world who doesn't know there's a war in Iraq? I said, no, there are people who are experiencing this world as a completely different thing.

Because they don't engage in even small forms of violence, like wishing that somebody at work would get fired. They don't even engage in small forms of violence. And how they are experiencing the world you cannot imagine, and they're not experiencing it like you, and they don't see a war in Iraq, and there is no war in Iraq for them.

That doesn't mean they're not aware of the war in Iraq. It means the war in Iraq is not happening for them. That's very difficult to understand.

It's very difficult to understand. I didn't hear about 9 November until three years after it happened. I never saw all the movies and the television.

I was in retreat. I don't have the seats that most of the world has for that. I never saw the footage and I wasn't there.

I wasn't even aware of it. You see what I mean? Your world can change and another person can experience a world radically different, in the same way as the hospital.

It's the same on a big way. So mudita is possible. It's possible to change the world into a pure world by your efforts, even as other people are suffering in the same world because they didn't make those efforts.

Alright?

[Говорящий 2]
Is that why you asked us not to read the news?

[Говорящий 1]
Did I ask you not to read the news? No, just reading too much news disturbs your mind. I walk by the New York Times what do you call it?

That little box where they sell newspapers? I look at the headline. It's enough.

I know what's happening. I don't need to know what President Obama had for breakfast. Okay?

It's not necessary. It's like that. Too much disturbs your mind, but we'll talk about that later.

Okay. You're supposed to ask me what's the first thing that comes I look at the headlines. I look at the headlines.

I look at the headlines. I look at the headlines. other things you can tell me about the I can tell you some why That's how they teach the bhupaksha in my monastery.

And I'll do it with you. It's very beautiful. Sem chen tang chen means, may everybody on the planet, nyeri chak dang dang chawa, may they lose the habit of being nice to the people they like, and not being nice to the people they don't like.

Nyeri chak dang dang chawa, dang dang dang chawa, nyepar gyur chik. May they have equanimity. Nena chimanu, wouldn't it be nice if everybody acted that way?

Nepar gyur chik means, it must happen. Nepar daki jao, we just were in Pure Yoga in Singapore, and we just taught that verse for like three hours. Just that.

It was very fun. It was really good, like last week. It was really beautiful.

Nena chimanu means, how nice it would be if people were equal to everybody. Nepar gyur chik, it should be that way. Nepar daki jao means, what's that?

You take responsibility. I will make it happen. I will make it happen.

It's like, I will make sure that everybody in the world treats everybody else equally. Like, that's a big commitment to me. Daki jao.

Then the last part is very, very beautiful. Dey tam chenupa lamahe jingilabdhisu. I pray to my heart teacher that I should be granted the power to do that.

I pray to my heart teacher that I should be given the power to do that. Because you can't do it on your own. You can't change everybody's mind in the whole world.

So they start treating each other equally. It's not going to happen. You need, like, higher, what do you call it?

Somebody with bigger resources. And for you, that's your own heart teacher, whoever that is. Like, maybe your heart teacher is Jon Frenz, right?

Does Jon Frenz have the power to give you, to make everybody in the world treat each other equally? He does have the power if you believe in him enough. Okay?

You give him the power. He's like the aspirant. Okay?

Your teacher is like the aspirant. If you have enough belief and enough devotion to whoever is your own teacher. And everybody needs a different teacher.

I mean, everyone finds their own, right? But what gives your teacher the power to give you the power is that you believe in them and you have devotion for them and you serve them. And then that changes their ability and then they can give you the power.

So your teacher doesn't have the power to help you change everybody's mind in the world. If you have enough love for your teacher and enough respect and enough feeling for your teacher, then you give them the power. And they will have the power.

Okay? It's very beautiful. I pray that my Lama, right?

Lama means teacher. And what do you call him? Laozi?

Or you can say... But then he says Lama Fla. Lama Fla means Deva.

It means like an angel or like a Buddha. If you see your teacher like an enlightened being, if you perceive them that way, then they have the power to give you. So that fourth one, it's always like I ask my teacher for the power.

And then they can give you the power. It's very beautiful. Tonight, by the way, is a very holy day.

I don't know if you know. It was just an accident, alright? If you go out and look at the moon, it's the tenth moon.

It's about two-thirds full. And it's waxing. The moon is increasing right now, tonight.

So the tenth waxing moon is a special night every month for your teacher. It's the most powerful night for your teacher. Of all.

It's very beautiful. And we started the class just by asking that night. So if you have that feeling for your teacher, then they can give you power.

It's very beautiful. So that's that one. Let me see.

Are we done yet? How are we doing? Is it just one more?

Oh my gosh. Thank you. This is...

Oh, sorry. This is talking about how you will feel if you engage in this practice. This is talking about how you will feel.

So, I'll give you a practical meditation. Alright? And then we're done.

It's called Je Su Yu Ram. Say Je. It's good to do it before you sleep.

It's very powerful before you sleep. Just before we sleep, our mind is weak. Our mind is tired.

It's okay. Okay? Just before you sleep, your mind is tired.

It's the worst time of the day to meditate. It's just before you sleep. Because your whole mind is full of the day.

And you feel a little bit tired. And you're feeling sleepy. If you try to cross your legs and close your eyes, definitely you will fall asleep.

So don't do that. My teacher called it coffee meditation. He made me Tibetan coffee.

It has butter, milk, salt, tea, nutmeg, soda. It tasted terrible. And he gave me a cup of Tibetan tea.

Then he said, Okay, now you do Je Su Yu Ram meditation. And I said, Do I have to cross my legs in Rinpoche? He said, No, no, you lay down on the sofa.

Then I said, I'm going to fall asleep if I lay down on the sofa. He said, It's okay. You can fall asleep.

During this meditation, if you fall asleep, it's good. I said, I never heard a meditation like that. If you came last night, that was the monkey, okay?

I'm sorry, the elephant. That's full of mind, elephant. In Je Su Yu Ram meditation, you think about the whole day.

And you try to think about the good things which you saw other people doing, or which you did yourself. The good things which you saw other people doing, or you did yourself. Just be happy.

No expense. No trouble. Like, okay, what did I see today?

Like, I don't know. I was in the cab coming here. And we were in a rush.

And the driver was nervous. And we were yelling at the driver. And we called Genevieve on the phone.

She yelled at the driver on the phone. And then, you know, the radio was blasting. And then there was somebody trying to get in front of us.

And he just calmly stopped. And he let them go first. With great grace and elegance, he's like, go ahead.

You know, we're like hitting him in the back of the head. And then I thought, isn't that nice? So, you can do that in the profit meditation.

Tonight, before you go to bed, you say, I saw a man today. Probably he's driving that cab. In New York, they drive them 12 hours straight.

I don't know what it is in Hong Kong. But it's not a fun job. They are drinking exhaust all day.

People are yelling at them. The traffic makes them nervous. I saw a man today.

He's a taxi driver. He was under extreme pressure. We were yelling at him.

At the same time, Generator is yelling at him in the phone. And he was graceful enough to stop and let someone else go in front of him. And I admired that.

I'm happy about that. And that's Je Tsui Yong meditation. I get the seeds in my mind for peace that he got by gracefully letting someone else go ahead.

You see? And I didn't have to be calm myself. I just be happy that he did it.

And I get the seeds. So it's a very beautiful meditation. And it makes the mind...

Chitta prasadana means it makes the mind clear as crystal water. Prasadana is a difficult word. Prasad you know.

It's an offering. But prasadana means the water becomes as clean and pure as high mountain stream water. And you just feel happy.

If you have trouble sleeping or you know somebody who has trouble sleeping, teach them how to do this meditation. And they'll have great sleep. I should sell this in a drug store.

If you... Just before you fall asleep, your mind is very vulnerable. Your mind is very open for good or bad.

And if you purposely think about all the good things you saw today and be happy for other people, other people's... What do you call it? Elegance, grace, beauty.

Then you fall asleep with that on your mind. And then the sleep is good. And the sleep is pure and deep.

And then you wake up and you just feel happy and fresh. We tend... When we are tired, klesha gets bigger.

What's klesha? Yeah, like negative emotions. We talked about them.

What are they? Avidya, asmita, raga, dvesha, abhinivesha. These are the five.

Kleshas are much more likely to arise in the mind when you are tired. When you are tired, your mind is more likely to get angry or jealous or eat. So if you...

Usually, before we sleep, the mind is thinking about who said something bad to me today or someone cheated me today or something like that. So if you do coffee meditation and you think about all the sweet things you saw today before you sleep, then you just feel really happy and you sleep well. And you sleep the whole eight hours or whatever.

You sleep soundly and you wake up refreshed. So try that. So that's all.

How are we doing? We have nine minutes if anybody has a question. Nobody has a question.

I will keep talking so you must ask a question. With the meditation you were just describing, is there a particular order or anything you should say to begin it? Like an mantra or...

You can say that first. It's very holy. MAITRI KARUNAMURITO DAKSHA Just to say those four.

It's very holy. It's a very, very... Some people use that as a mantra.

Some people sing it. MAITRI KARUNAMURITO DAKSHA It's very nice. You can...

Usually, if you want to make a mantra or something like that, you say OM at the beginning. OM MAITRI KARUNAMURITO DAKSHA And if you really want to do a fancy mantra, you add a bumper around the back which is called AHU. So you say OM MAITRI KARUNAMURITO DAKSHA AHU AHU And that AHU, they say, nails the mantra.

OM introduces the mantra. This is a classic way to create a mantra. Yeah.

[Говорящий 2]
Ask her.

[Говорящий 1]
Now, in my monastery, three centuries ago, one Lama designed an asana series which included mudras or hand gestures to represent these four. He designed the whole asana series based on these four practices. And she can teach you.

I don't know. Great.

[Говорящий 2]
Yeah.

[Говорящий 1]
His name was Kyutso. Kyutso Lama. Jamyo Lama.

Kyutso Lama. His reincarnation is one of my classics. That's a very strange reincarnation because he split at some point.

And there's two Kyutso's running around at any given time right now. But that's a long story. Did you have a question?

Yes.

[Говорящий 2]
About time gap, and a dilemma about it too.

[Говорящий 1]
Okay.

[Говорящий 2]
If we want to see somebody also, right? When we want ourselves to be healthy, we have to take care of other people.

[Говорящий 1]
Yeah.

[Говорящий 2]
When we want to see somebody not suffering, Yeah. How?

[Говорящий 1]
It's a good question. Okay. She's saying, I understand that if I don't want to be ill myself, if I want to have good health myself, I should help the sick.

But what if I want to see other people not suffer from sickness? Like, it bothers me to see other people sick. Is there anything I can do for them?

There are two answers, okay? Answer number one. It's not possible to plant a seed in anyone else's life.

And it's not possible to transfer seeds. You can only educate people. You can only explain what to do, and they have to do it themselves.

I can't give you the seeds I have in my mind for money. I cannot transfer them to you. You have to do it yourself.

I can't even give you money. You will lose it or something will happen if you don't have the seeds to have it. You see?

I'm helpless to help you. All I can do is teach you how to help yourself. That's the first answer.

Second answer is interesting, okay? Every seed you plant in the mind has four distinct results. Every seed you plant in the mind has four different kinds of results.

And these are very famous. One is called, I don't remember, loving the devil. The first one means your habitual behavior in this life will determine what happens to you after the moment of your death.

We're talking long-term result. So every action you take in this life has repercussions on what happens to you after you die. Or even if you die.

Whether you die. So every action you take in this life has an effect on you as you come to the end of your life. But you can also change that.

And we'll talk about that, I think it's tomorrow by the way, how to remove an old seed. If you made some drastic mistake when you were 18, which we all did, you can remove those seeds. You can take those seeds out.

We'll talk about it tomorrow. So the first result of any given action in your life is that it will have an effect on what happens to you as you die, if you die, and after you die. That's the first result.

Second result, it will have an effect on you in this life. Something will happen back to you. What do you call it?

Like a boomerang. Something will come back to you in the next few years. If you lie to people, people will lie to you.

Like that. That's a person, you can call it a personal result, in the next few years. That's the second thing.

From the same action, two different results, one which is delayed until you die, one which happens in the next few years. Third result is called the habit. You get the habit of doing whatever you do.

If you start lying, you will lie more. The seed will ripen as lying more. But it also is good news.

The first time you tell the truth to your boyfriend, it's hard. The second time is easier. The third time is much easier.

Like that. What do I mean, tell the truth? I mean, or your boss.

Boss comes in and says, you know, the diamonds didn't get to JCPenney this week. Was that your fault? And then you attempted to lie.

And then you said, I went to a talk last night, he said lying doesn't work anyway. I might as well tell the truth. And the first time telling the truth is hard.

It's a leap of faith to tell the truth. I'm talking about you could lie and the boss would never know. I'm talking a lie that you could tell and the boss would never know.

And you decide, unilaterally, to tell the truth. The first time is quite difficult. The second time is easier.

The third time is much easier. The same is true for bad things. The first time you use alcohol, it tastes terrible and it's difficult.

You know, after a year, it's quite easy. Bad habits and good habits, that's the third result. Okay, fourth result.

And then we're done. The fourth result is what you were talking about. And that's called an environmental result.

If you lie, then you will observe lying throughout the city in which you live. I'm not saying that one shop here will lie to you. I'm saying corruption will be a problem in your city.

We were in Jakarta. And we were in the airport and it wasn't so great. And we were talking about it.

I said, the airport is not so great. And the lady said, well, I know the guy who built the airport. And I said, well, why didn't he do a better job?

He said, well, he took half the money. He kept half the money. And it was approved by all the other people who got money.

You see what I mean? And it's just, if you lie as a habit, then as an environmental result, corruption will become common where you live. And everybody is paying off and robbing everybody else.

It will just be a generally observed thing where you live. Now, Anna asked about health. So if I make it a practice to teach yoga to other people in order to improve their health, will I gradually see more healthy people around me?

Yes, that's the fourth result. But can you make another person healthy if they don't do good things? You can't.

But if you try to help other people be healthy, then there will be a general karma in the community that people will support each other in the yoga class, help each other, and then everyone's health will rise. Everyone who comes to the studio regularly, their health will rise. And you see that.

In good yoga studios where the teacher is encouraging people to do their homework with each other, even if they don't know them, then the health of that community will rise. You will observe more health around you. Does that mean everybody else is observing more health around them?

No. The same object can be perceived in opposite ways by two different people if one is being kind and the other one is hurting people. The same object can be perceived in two contradictory ways by two people who are acting in different ways.

And that's the meaning of emptiness. If you care, that's a terrible thing to throw at you at the end of the class. But what they call shunya in Sanskrit, or in Chinese, they call kongsheng, kongxing.

色归空,空归色. 色就是空,空就是色. Like that.

空,空心. That's the meaning of kongsheng. Two different people will see the same thing differently.

Take away the two people. What is that thing? Nothing.

Okay? We'll talk more about that later. It comes in the yoga sutra.

Alright. We have a custom in the monastery. It feels like a good thing to do tonight.

I don't do it all the time. But it feels like this studio has some good vibe to it, or energy to it, so we'll do it, okay? To talk about these things, if they are true, could change the world.

You know? Like people could start giving money away to other people, and nobody would be poor, right? To talk about these things could change the world.

So we made a good seat tonight. What's the best way to keep that seat?

[Говорящий 2]
Give it away.

[Говорящий 1]
Give it away? No, seriously. The best way to keep the seat is to give it away.

So we do a special prayer at the end of a class. And we give away the seat from during the class. Okay?

You ready? Here we go. Can you imagine giving away the seat to everybody in Hong Kong?

Okay. Good job. So our agreement is, if you want a certificate, if you don't want a certificate, you don't have to do anything, just come.

Okay? If you want a certificate, I want you to be qualified. And that means you need to do your homework.

Christine and Darcy are in charge of the homework, okay? They can help you. They'll give you the homework, right?

They have them. You have them. And then fill out the homework.

At the bottom of the homework, you'll see a small meditation assignment, a 10-minute meditation assignment. And you'll also see that you're supposed to list what time did you do your homework and who did you do it with. Okay?

So that's blackmail. All right? So...

Two of us will be here at 530, and two of us will be at the Starbucks across the street. Okay. Also, we have teaching assistants.

If you have any trouble with the homework or if you're too shy to meet anybody, there will be two people here at 530 tomorrow to help you with your homework, if you'd like. And there will be two people at the Starbucks across the street to help you, if you'd like. I like Starbucks.

I like to do my homework at Starbucks. Do you know who? Will you raise your hand if you're going to be at Starbucks tomorrow?

Look for these guys with their hands up, okay? If you just want to hang out and do the homework with somebody else, come to Starbucks, or you can come here. Okay?

All right. Good night. Thank you for coming.

Thank you. If anybody has a room, let's go outside.
