[Говорящий 3]
Everybody enjoy. Thank you again for your activity. It really makes it a lot more fun when we get to chat together.

Marina's giving me the thumbs up. You go right ahead. I have nothing else interesting to say.

I'm vamping for time. Cool.

[Говорящий 1]
Okay, a short introduction. So the translation team, We are similar to Shensong's translation team. That's why we call Shensong Tower in Xi'an, Chang'an.

I choose originally 10 people, and then two extra people, 12 people. And because there are 12 great schools of Buddhism in the last 2,500 years, and they use different languages. There are 12 different schools, and their language is much, much different.

So really you have to learn 12 languages. It's not one. You need 12 languages.

So I thought before I go to Nirvana, I should teach the 12 languages to my students. I should have 12 translators. So each translator, I chose a different language.

And Xiaoping's language is Xiaoping and Stanley both, they have the oldest language. It's the oldest language. Her subject is called Vinaya.

Vinaya. Say Vinaya.

[Говорящий 2]
Vinaya.

[Говорящий 1]
Yeah, Vinaya. It's the oldest Buddhism. It's the first Buddhism.

So in the business ethics class, we talk about independently in the West and the East, the smart people find out that good behavior is important to survive. For the country to survive. We cannot just poison your neighbor if you like his wife, you know.

Even nowadays, we don't do that. Some people like the neighbor's wife, but they control themselves. They don't poison the other guy.

I mean, usually. So, so independently in Asia, in the Christian countries, independently, they made list. Good behavior.

You know, don't kill, don't steal, don't lie. Like that. Because they understand it will help people.

And there won't be chaos in the world. And we can be successful if we agree I promise I won't poison you tonight. Okay, like that.

Now, in some countries, they, more advanced, innovation. Ethical innovation. Okay.

In Asia, mostly. Those 10 rules, very good. But even better, if you promise.

If you make promise. It's even better for everybody. Make promise.

Promise for life. For your whole life. My whole life, I will not kill.

My whole life, I will respect other people's marriage. Like that. If you make promise, then we have special gesture.

You know, I will not kill. I will not steal. I will not mess around.

We make promise. That's an innovation. Happened 2,000 years ago.

Buddha made this innovation. Make promise. Keep promise.

GZI TSO'I BAR DU. Until the day I die. Until my last breath, I will not steal anything.

I will not lie to anybody. Okay, this is very cool idea. It's a Buddhism's idea.

Okay, let's make promise. So then there came to be a special subject. It's called vowed morality.

Vow ethics with promise. Ethics with promise. If we talk about business ethics, it means when you join the company, you have to promise.

I will never steal diamond from the diamond company. I will never lie to my customer. You make promise.

Then in Buddhism, the more innovation, the ten, the list of ten good deeds, very good. But let's make a new system. You have to take promise.

In front of Buddha, in the statue, in the temple. Okay, I promise I will not kill. You know, this promise is very great idea.

Great, great idea. Don't have to be monk. You can make promise also family person.

You know, you can do. Then that subject name is Vinaya. Okay, it means ethics with promise.

Ethics with a promise. And that's a special Buddhist ethics. Okay.

Ethics with the promise. Now, there's a famous, famous, famous book about that ethics with promise. It's called Vinaya Sutra.

Vinaya Sutra. Okay. Usually sutra means spoken by Buddha.

Like Heart Sutra, Diamond Cutter Sutra, Jing, right? But in sometimes it doesn't mean spoken by Buddha. Sometimes it means short book, short book.

The ancient word sutra, it also means short book. It can mean Buddha's book, but sometimes it just means short book. Like Yoga Sutra.

Yoga Sutra is not Buddhist even, but it's short book, short book. So there's a famous, famous book, Vinaya Sutra. And there's an unbelievable commentary, explanation, written about 300 years ago or something.

Unbelievable. Unbelievable. It will take 40 years to translate.

It's unbelievable. And we found it. John Brady found it.

John Brady's team found it. We spent 15 million dollars to save the Buddhist books so far. Me and John Brady.

He sold his house in New York. He had the most expensive house. He was vice president of a big, big company.

He sold it for the project to save the books, you know, and we all did that. So but that 15 million dollars so far, we are 10% finished by the way. That 15 million dollars, this one book is worth it.

Her book is worth 15 million dollars. I think so. You know.

So anyway, we are now in the beginning of a Buddhist book, there's an advertisement. Every Buddhist book in the beginning, if there's a real, real Buddhist book, there should be advertisement in the beginning. And it says, every Buddhist book has it.

Every great Buddhist book has advertisement. It says, this book has four qualities. This book has four qualities.

Makes good book. There are four things make it a great book. Four things, always.

Four things, okay. And Xiaoping is going to tell you what's the four. Not before your homework, before your homework.

Number one, there should be a uh promise.

[Говорящий 2]
Oh, no, no, subject.

[Говорящий 1]
Subject. What's the subject? Oh, emptiness.

Oh, bodhicitta. Oh, bolobolomido. First, first in a Buddhist book, first thing, if you're a great Buddhist writer, you should tell the people, what's your book about?

What's the subject? What's the subject of the Vinaya Sutra? Yeah, promised morality.

Promised morality. Okay, so her book, number, she's doing great commentary on Vinaya Sutra. The best in history.

Number one, what's the subject? Promised ethics. Promised ethics.

Number two, short-term goal. What's the short-term goal? Why, why should I read this book?

Why should I read this book? Okay.

[Говорящий 2]
Oh, they can see the answer.

[Говорящий 1]
Yeah. Why should I read this book? That's the second advertisement.

You should read this book because you can learn the subject of vowed morality. Okay, that's the second thing. What's the first thing?

[Говорящий 2]
Subject.

[Говорящий 1]
Yeah, this book is about vowed morality. Number two, what's the short goal? I want to teach you all the details about vowed morality.

You're going to become vowed morality expert. Everything, like computer. Okay.

Okay, if you study Xiaoping's book, you will know vowed morality better than any Geshe. I promise you. Okay, you will know better than a Geshe.

Okay. Second, what's the third quality of her book?

[Говорящий 2]
Long-term goal.

[Говорящий 1]
Yeah, ultimate goal. Now, question for you guys. What's the ultimate goal of studying morality?

And by the way, we are not in the DSEU. Okay, we are in Buddhist class. What's the real goal?

Do not die. Do not suffer. Help everyone.

Don't help eight billion people. That's nothing. Okay, don't.

The goal is to help billions and billions of planets of people. Okay, eight billion people is nothing. That's not even one percent.

The ultimate goal is you don't get MBA.

[Говорящий 2]
Oh, they got special MBA. The Master of Bodhisattva Activities.

[Говорящий 1]
No, but you're going to help every person not to die. That's the ultimate goal. Okay, that's ultimate goal.

Number three. Now, fourth quality of this book is a little bit difficult.

[Говорящий 2]
Connection?

[Говорящий 1]
Yeah, you want to explain?

[Говорящий 2]
Oh, it's uh By the way, it's called connection.

[Говорящий 1]
Number four is called connection. And you go backwards. You go backwards.

You go backwards. The ultimate goal you can get if you if you learn this book learn Valmorality. Ultimate goal you can get if you learn Valmorality.

Okay. And Valmorality you can understand if you read this book. Okay, got it?

That's called the connection, connection. Every Buddhist book must have four things. Number one.

Subject. Subject. Number two.

Short term goal. Finish the book. Don't die.

Okay. Ultimate goal. Yeah, and this one makes this, and this one makes this.

Okay, they are connected. They are connected. Okay, study this book.

You will know Vinaya. If you know Vinaya, you can save the world. Okay, that's called the four qualities of a Buddhist book.

Now, something interesting. Okay, ready? If a book does not have those four qualities, don't waste your time on it.

You don't have time. You are dying. Right now you are dying.

Okay. Somebody say, I have a new book. They say, new book.

I found a new book. Don't say, don't ask what's the name of the book. Just say, does it have four qualities?

I don't know. I don't want it. I don't have time.

Many, many, many people give me books. Just before I leave their country, many people give me a book. I take the book.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I go through customs, passport control. I throw it out on the other side.

I don't carry it on the plane. It's too heavy. I say, in my heart, I say, does it have the four qualities?

They say, no. I say, okay. Netflix also don't have the four qualities.

Okay. Korea soap opera almost have. All right.

Now, you're ready to answer her homework.

[Говорящий 2]
I think we covered two already.

[Говорящий 1]
No, go ahead.

[Говорящий 2]
Okay. So, first question, I think just now we talked about those four things in the Buddhist book we already covered.

[Говорящий 1]
Can you please explain the name of your book?

[Говорящий 2]
Oh, okay. This book is called James Dong, The True Intent. The author is Penxin Lokju Leksa.

[Говорящий 1]
By the way, Penxin just means a big teacher. There's many, many, thousands. Okay.

[Говорящий 2]
It is a commentary of the Vinaya Sutra by Guru Praja. Because the original book is already beautiful, very beautiful itself, the content. So the commentary by our author is also very, very beautiful.

So, usually, in the ancient text, if something is very valuable and beautiful, we always use the metaphor of like jewelry, or like James Dong, meaning it is very beautiful.

[Говорящий 1]
Many ancient books its name is jewelry. Why? The lady is already beautiful.

The lady is already beautiful. Then this nice jewelry makes her more beautiful. The author, who is not Buddha, he said, look, I agree, Buddha's talk is so beautiful, but I'm just going to put some earrings.

Okay. This author, later author, they say, look, Buddha's very unbelievable, but let's put some pearl earrings, you know, let's make more beautiful. So her book is called Making Vinaya More Beautiful.

It's a beautiful name.

[Говорящий 2]
Okay. We just covered it, but let's check if you forgot already. Possible.

[Говорящий 1]
Very possible.

[Говорящий 2]
So what's the short-term goal of this book? Yes. First to learn and understand this book.

Right? Learn all the details.

[Говорящий 1]
About? Details about? Yeah, promised.

We can say ethics with a promise. In business language. By the way, we have to learn business language.

Ethics with a promise. The company can promise. We promise to lower pollution.

They can make a promise. Okay, that's a company promise.

[Говорящий 2]
Okay, the quiz. Second one, what's the long-term goal of this same book? Not dying, or eliminate the pain.

And the technical language in the book, I mean, it said to reach nirvana without remainder.

[Говорящий 1]
Yeah, by the way, let's do that more slowly.

[Говорящий 2]
Oh.

[Говорящий 1]
What's the technical name of the long-term goal of this book? Because it's important for today's class. Madame President?

[Говорящий 2]
Oh, I just covered.

[Говорящий 1]
Say slowly.

[Говорящий 2]
So, the long-term goal of this book is in the technical language is called to reach nirvana without remainder.

[Говорящий 1]
Yeah, we can say higher nirvana. Complete nirvana. Complete nirvana.

That's the goal of this book. Ultimate goal.

[Говорящий 2]
Okay, third one is very simple question, and you always see it in the Asian books. So, because we are talking about the ultima goals, and they are three checks, and they are three ultima goals, but the question here is simple. What are the three checks?

Checks. Yeah, somebody already said. Shengwen.

Yeah, they know the Chinese word. So, now you can learn this together to learn the three English words. Okay, listeners.

Meaning Chinese shengwen. Listeners. Second one is self-made buddhas.

Yuanjue. Yuanjue. The third one you all know.

Bodhisattvas.

[Говорящий 1]
By the way, there's an easy way to explain these three. Easy way. It's not very high, but it's easy way.

Okay? Easy way. Listener goal.

They don't want to go to lower birth. They don't want to be dog. They don't want to be snake.

They want to be human after they die. Okay? The lowest motivation.

The lowest motivation to study this book is after you die. Okay? Any motivation for this life, already you are not in the book.

You are not in the book. There's no goal like that. The lowest, minimum.

I don't want to go to animal. I don't want to be animal. I want to come back to human.

Lowest. Okay? Then medium.

[Говорящий 2]
Self-made buddhas.

[Говорящий 1]
Yeah, I don't want any actually, I'm sorry. First one is, I don't want to go hell or animal, something like that. Second one, actually I don't want to come back to this kind of life at all.

I don't want this kind of body. These bodies die. Have to die.

Must die. It's so stupid to go in this body. We made a big mistake.

This one has to die. It doesn't matter who you are. This one has to die.

So, second motivation. I don't want to come in this kind of body at all. What's the third motivation?

Yeah, I don't want everybody to come into that body. I don't want anyone to come into this body. I will work for everybody.

Yeah. Okay? Got it?

Those are the basically those are three numbers.

[Говорящий 2]
Okay, good. You are doing a great job. Now Tibetan words.

Today we are going to, okay, for those who attended before, let's try to remember for the DSU students, we can learn, particularly I chose the first word for you because it's our discourse we are learning in university this week. Okay, please read the first one. Who can guess what does it mean?

[Говорящий 1]
Just general ethics.

[Говорящий 2]
Yeah, morality, ethics. So if you can't remember anything, you can learn this word. That's good today.

[Говорящий 1]
By the way, the second word here is N-G-E-S.

[Говорящий 2]
Oh, sorry.

[Говорящий 1]
Okay, good.

[Говорящий 2]
Second one. You are very familiar with Ngepa Chungwa. It means No.

Okay. Here the answer.

[Говорящий 1]
Renunciation.

[Говорящий 2]
Getting out, meaning you have renunciation, you want to get out. Yeah.

[Говорящий 1]
I want to get out of this kind of body. And this second word is going to be very important in today's class. It means get out.

Get out. Get out of this trouble. Okay.

[Говорящий 2]
Third one. Dong Mi Sa Pa.

[Говорящий 1]
Sa Wa. This is a hard one. Do you guys remember it?

[Говорящий 2]
It's related to the second word. It's relevant. Dong Mi Sa Wa.

Okay. Anybody? Any tips?

Give a clue. I already gave. It's relevant to the second one.

That you No. It means that getting out, you definitely want to get out without any doubt.

[Говорящий 1]
Dong Mi Sa Wa means definitely.

[Говорящий 2]
Yeah. No doubt. Beyond any question.

No doubt you want to get out.

[Говорящий 1]
Nice translation actually.

[Говорящий 2]
Okay. Two paragraphs. Attempt.

[Говорящий 1]
Okay, now this needs a little grandpa explanation. Hang on. This is a debate about the ultimate goal of this book.

This is a debate about the ultimate goal of this book. Okay. And Do we want to become Allahan?

Ahad. Do we want to become Ahad? It reads Nirvana.

Do you want to reach Nirvana? Yes. What is Nirvana?

Basically, I don't want suffering. I want to be free from suffering. Basically, Nirvana.

I want to reach Nirvana. Okay. And then that's the third quality of this book.

The ultimate goal. In this school. This is the lowest school.

2,500 years ago. Their ultimate goal is Nirvana. They don't talk so much about Bodhisattva.

They just want to get out of trouble. Themself, mostly. Okay.

Somebody said that, number three, ultimate goal of this book ultimate goal of this book is to think like a person who doesn't have to die. Think like them. It's their mental state.

I want to reach their mental state. Okay. Of a person who's gone out of Nirvana.

Somebody By the way, somebody's always wrong. This guy said, I'm number three. What's number three?

Ultimate goal of this book. He said, now there's something wrong with what he said. There's something wrong with what he said.

The state of mind of a person in Nirvana. There's some mistake. It's not the ultimate goal of this book.

Then we have to ask why. Why you say that? Why you say that?

It's very subtle. Ah, here we go.

[Говорящий 2]
Okay, so we don't need to answer.

[Говорящий 1]
No, no, you're good. Then he, then we said, Kongki Tak, you want to read it?

[Говорящий 2]
Oh, okay. Then we say, Kongki tak chup te, sak me kyi lam yinpe che.

[Говорящий 1]
Then we say, are you sure the ultimate goal of this book is the mind of a person in Nirvana? He said, yeah. Yeah, that's the ultimate goal.

We said, why? He said, sak me kyi lam.

[Говорящий 2]
The path of immaculate?

[Говорящий 1]
Pure path? It's the totally pure path. Now, you have to know something in Buddhism.

Path in real Buddhism. Okay, by the way, when we go to Shenzong Tower, and you cannot find it anywhere. Real Buddhism.

In real Buddhism, I call genuine Buddhism. In genuine Buddhism, lam means, path means, a state of mind. It always means a state of mind.

It doesn't mean a road. It does not mean a method. It means a state of mind.

Path state of mind. Okay, it's a synonym. It's a synonym.

And you have to know that to understand this argument. So we say, what's the ultimate goal of this book? Oh, you should reach the state of mind of Nirvana.

Person in Nirvana. Why? Because that's the ultimate path.

Is it correct? Is the state of mind of a person in Nirvana the ultimate path or not? It is the ultimate path.

But he's still wrong. Okay? He said, we said, okay, what's the third thing in this book?

Ultimate goal. What's the ultimate goal? State of mind of the person in Nirvana.

Okay. You sure? Yes.

Why? It's the ultimate path. It's a pure path.

That's state of mind. There's no higher path. The highest path in the world is the ultimate reason of her book.

Okay? Vinaya Sutra. Okay?

And by the way, that's wrong. There's wrong. Something wrong.

There's something wrong there. Okay, now you can go shopping.

[Говорящий 2]
Oh, okay. I will visit later. Second one.

Should I read?

[Говорящий 1]
Please read.

[Говорящий 2]
Good.

[Говорящий 1]
Then we say, listen, listen, listen you dude, listen. Listen, okay. If something is the ultimate goal of this book, quality number three.

If something is the ultimate goal of this book, it should be ultimate. It should be the highest thing in the universe. If something is the goal of this book, it should be the highest thing in the universe.

And the ultimate path cannot be the ultimate goal. The ultimate path cannot be the ultimate goal of this book. Because if it's the ultimate goal of this book, it has to be the highest thing in the universe.

Yep. What's the third quality here? It's the state of mind of Arhat.

He said, we said, no it's not. They said, why not? We said it has to be ultimate.

And the state of mind of an Arhat is not ultimate. It's not the highest thing. Okay?

It's not the highest thing. What's higher? Ah, you got to read the next thing.

[Говорящий 2]
Okay. Okay, now we need to go to this one. Sorry, I need to find it.

[Говорящий 1]
Yeah, we need somebody to read. You want me to find it for you? Which page?

Just type this thing. R-G-Y-A space C-H.

[Говорящий 2]
R-G-Y-A?

[Говорящий 1]
R-G-Y-A space C-H. This much.

[Говорящий 2]
Oh.

[Говорящий 1]
One more time. Search again. Oh, stop.

[Говорящий 2]
No.

[Говорящий 1]
One more time. I'm sorry, go back. No, not this one.

Yeah, I'm going to the next one. No.

[Говорящий 2]
Yes, this one.

[Говорящий 1]
No, it should say teacher. There you go.

[Говорящий 2]
Oh, good.

[Говорящий 1]
Okay, okay. Who's going to read? Make some of these boys suffer.

[Говорящий 2]
Okay, okay. Stanley first.

[Говорящий 1]
Stanley, oh. Oh. Oh, karma.

Instinct karma. Nice. Good.

Nice. Gyatso Drelpa is an ancient Indian commentary to the Vinaya Sutra. It was written by a guy named Dharmamitra.

There's a famous yoga teacher named Dharmamitra, okay. And that commentary says, Why don't we consider it the ultimate path?

[Говорящий 2]
Okay.

[Говорящий 1]
Why don't we consider it the ultimate path? Why is number, why is the ultimate goal is not the ultimate path? Why is the ultimate goal not the ultimate path?

Then he says, tsowa mayin. Because it's not soul. What's tsowa mean?

Like lam tso, nam sum. Main thing. Main thing.

[Говорящий 2]
Oh.

[Говорящий 1]
Yeah. Then there's a question. Somebody say, How come the ultimate path is not the ultimate goal of our book?

And he says, oh, that's easy. It's not the main thing. It's not the main thing.

The path is not the main thing. The ultimate path is not the ultimate goal of this book. Okay.

Okay. Okay. Let's go to the next one.

By the way, let me show you something. Yeah, here. Stop.

Go up.

[Говорящий 2]
Something wrong with the computer. It's not. Okay.

Stop.

[Говорящий 1]
Now, look. When you see the dark letters, the dark, dark letters, and you see this kind of computer thing at the top, in our Shenzong's Tower, the second Shenzong's Tower is here. In our group, we check everything.

We check everything. He said, somebody said something. We don't believe.

We go find the other book. We go find the other book. It takes two seconds because we have database.

We have John Brady's database. It takes two seconds. In the old days, it took me two months to find it.

Now it takes two seconds. I'm going to show you.

[Говорящий 2]
You need to see your computer?

[Говорящий 1]
Yeah, but it's just for the kids here. Okay. Uh-oh.

Here's the quotation. I go to the search program. Oh, you can't see it.

I'm sorry. It's okay. Anyway, trust me.

[Говорящий 2]
No, you can just plug it in. It's very easy.

[Говорящий 1]
Okay, okay.

[Говорящий 2]
Who made this one? Teacher. They made the flower arrangement.

Yeah, in the class. Nice.

[Говорящий 1]
Oh, yeah.

[Говорящий 2]
So I can take notes here.

[Говорящий 1]
No, keep it on. We might need it.

[Говорящий 2]
Okay, I'll just keep it on.

[Говорящий 1]
Okay, nice. Thank you. Yeah, we should give her a hand.

Thank you. This is John Brady's database. Okay.

And that quotation is over it's almost 2,000 years old. Okay. And the Chee Chee Supplement.

Chee Chee Supp. Okay, good. Correct.

Chee Chee Supplement. Then I'm going to search in the database. John Brady's database.

Three million pages. Three million pages. Okay, you count how long it takes.

Okay. We are looking for this statement. In three million pages.

Let's check count how long it takes. Okay, ready? One, two, three.

Done. Finished. Three million pages.

Okay, we designed the search program. Nobody has it. Okay.

You should thank John Brady someday. Okay. This is unbelievable.

Unbelievable. It's the red letters. Okay.

It's unbelievable. Shenzang didn't have. We fixed many things by Shenzang.

It's unbelievable. We can fix Shenzang many times. Okay.

Anyway, here we go. Stop praising yourself. Okay.

I think it's amazing. Do you want to go back to your computer? No, we cannot.

I'll give you my computer.

[Говорящий 2]
No, I have this. Do you mind to use your computer?

[Говорящий 1]
I don't mind. I took off all the bad things before. Just kidding.

Okay. Do you want somebody to read? Yeah.

Just let me check. Hang on. Okay.

Let me finish that. Okay. Let's make it bigger.

Okay. He said the state of mind of a person in nirvana is the ultimate goal of this book. Of promised morality is the ultimate goal.

And we said no. He said, why? Then who wants to go?

This is a long one. Give it to someone you don't like.

[Говорящий 2]
Oh. How about I redeem myself? Oh.

[Говорящий 1]
That's a very politically correct answer.

[Говорящий 2]
Okay.

[Говорящий 1]
Hang on. Let me change something. Okay.

Okay. Here we go. Okay.

Myself. Go.

[Говорящий 2]
Okay. Myself. Go.

Okay. What's his name?

[Говорящий 1]
Chen.

[Говорящий 2]
Okay.

[Говорящий 1]
Let's stop there. That's good. Okay.

Alright. So, what did he say? Someone tell me.

$100. What did he say? Ibai.

Ibai.

[Говорящий 2]
Okay. Anybody?

[Говорящий 1]
What did the other guy say? What did he say? The ultimate goal of this book is the state of mind of the person in nirvana.

In nirvana. Okay. Then we say, ha, ha, ha.

You are wrong. Okay. You are wrong.

Okay. Why? Because we took out a book and it said so am I in.

That's not the most important thing. The state of mind of a person in nirvana is not the most important thing. We quoted ...

By the way, in Buddhism there's two ways to prove something. Okay. It's also like a fight.

It's like wushu. There's two ways to hit the guy. There's always two hands.

Okay. This one is ... Logic?

Logic. This one is the great book from the past. The real Buddhist book.

This one is logic. This one is Buddhist book. Okay.

So we quote the book. Boom. He can't fight.

You disagree with Lord Buddha? No. Buddha said it's not the main thing.

Got it? Okay. So then he has to shut up.

Now he says, but, but, but, but ... He wants to try again. He's going to try again.

Okay. Here it goes. Je Pala Konade means, well, isn't there a quotation from Lungchen Zag?

Say Lungchen Zag.

[Говорящий 2]
Lungchen Zag.

[Говорящий 1]
Buddha taught, Buddha taught 16,000 pages. Buddha taught 16,000 pages about vow morality.

[Говорящий 2]
Okay.

[Говорящий 1]
It's like it's almost one quarter of his teaching. Okay. Yeah.

You want to see it? Here it is. Okay.

John Brady's Database. Okay. Here's the all Buddhist books.

Okay. And here's the Vinaya. And there's the, there's how many volumes here?

13. 13,000 pages. About Vinaya.

Taught by? Directly by Buddha. 13,000 pages.

It's finished. We input. Hey, do you want to know what all the Indians think?

Here. Who are they? Grandpa needs glasses.

Yeah. It's here. Okay.

How many volumes? 17. 17,000 pages explanation.

Okay. 17,000 pages. Total?

30,000 pages in John Brady's Database. Okay. About today's subject.

Just about today's something. Okay. 30,000 pages.

Finished. Okay. It took 20 years.

We spent 20 years. We finished it. All the books from India finished.

Okay. It took 20 years. Hard work.

Okay. He says, look, it says, dunyal means suffering. Chö she means to understand that thing.

Sopa here does not mean patience. It means to completely understand that thing. And this is ancient language.

Super ancient language.

[Говорящий 2]
Okay.

[Говорящий 1]
When you understand, when you reach the highest level of understanding, okay, and PUM PO LHAG MA MED you don't have PUM PO left over. You don't have any part of yours left over. No body, no mind.

Okay. This is the lower idea of nirvana. It's a mistake.

It's not correct. Okay. You want to get rid of body and mind, just shoot yourself.

But it doesn't work. You go someplace else the next minute. You don't stop.

You stop this body, but you're in a new body in 10 seconds. It's stupid to kill yourself. My brother killed himself.

I know. He got another body in 10 seconds. It's a bad idea.

Okay. That's not the way to reach nirvana. So here, you can reach a place where you don't have body and you don't have mind.

Does Buddha have body and mind? Yeah, but not this one. Not this one.

This one's broken. This one's no good. This one's skin.

Skin is stupid. Bad design. Okay.

Alright. It's like a bad car. Okay.

He said, nyang ngen lay depa means what? Nyang de. Nirvana.

Nirvana. That nirvana, when you stop your body, and you stop your mind, gupe gupa.

[Говорящий 2]
That's the purpose?

[Говорящий 1]
Yeah. That's the number three. That's the ultimate purpose.

The purpose of the purpose. That's the ultimate purpose. What?

Stop your body and mind. Stop the old body and mind. Okay.

Stop. Now listen. This is extremely difficult.

Ready? Is nirvana the state of mind of a person in nirvana? We say no.

Why? It's not the ultimate goal. What does this book say?

Stopping. Stopping is the ultimate goal. Stopping is the ultimate goal.

Stopping never changes. The mind changes. The mind changes every instant.

Okay? You can't trust it. Oh, I reach nirvana.

Why? I understand everything. Oh, I forgot something.

The mind is moving. The mind is changing. That's not the ultimate goal.

The ultimate goal is to stop everything. Stopping is permanent. Stopping is unchanging.

Stopping lasts forever. Emptiness is unchanging. Emptiness is stopping.

That's the ultimate goal. Okay? It's not the mind.

Nirvana is stopping. Stopping, it never changes. How many times you have to stop?

No, you stop once. That's it. Okay?

Got it? Understand? Don't tell me the state of mind is nirvana.

It's not. Don't tell me that's the ultimate goal. It's not.

The ultimate goal is stopping the old body and mind. And that never changes. And the mind always changes.

Okay? Got it? We are looking for something permanent.

We don't want to feel good for a few hours. We got that here. You can go to the French coffee shop.

I'll give you the address. Now, then we say, did you understand? Yes.

What's the ultimate goal of this book? Stopping my pain. Stopping my old mind.

Stopping my old body. Is that a state of mind? No.

State of mind is changing thing. State of mind is changing thing. You believe?

You understand? No, I don't know. I'll give you another quotation.

That's what comes next. He says, I don't know. I'll prove it again to you.

Here's the next one. Xiaoping, who's next? Sumgyapa.

Sumgyapa.

[Говорящий 2]
This is show one. Say, do you like to read?

[Говорящий 1]
Yeah. That's as big as I can make it seem. Can you see okay?

[Говорящий 2]
Thank you.

[Говорящий 1]
Yeah. But doesn't that 300 verses, it's a Vinaya text, okay? Doesn't it say, NGES PAR BYUNG BA'I TSUL KHRIMS NGES PAR BYUNG BA'I means getting out of trouble.

She had it in her vocabulary.

[Говорящий 2]
Renunciation?

[Говорящий 1]
Getting out. Sometimes it means renunciation. Sometimes it means getting out.

NGES PAR BYUNG BA'I TSUL KHRIMS NGES PAR BYUNG BA'I TSUL KHRIMS means morality you follow because you want to get out. Morality you follow because you want to get out. Is there any other kind of morality?

[Говорящий 2]
Yeah.

[Говорящий 1]
Yeah, like business morality. They don't want to get out. They just want to make more money.

So they can put more clothes on this dead body. Oh, we're not supposed to talk about it.

[Говорящий 2]
No. In our university, our morality is different.

[Говорящий 1]
Oh, I want to make more money. I want an expensive coat on what? On my dead body.

Okay. Okay, I'm not supposed to say it. NGES PAR BYUNG BA'I TSUL KHRIMS It means the morality that you want to get out.

SDUG BSNGAL PONG It gets rid of suffering. It gets rid of suffering. Now, he says your statement contradicts that.

Your statement contradicts that. He's accusing us. You made some problem.

The end of suffering, if you say that's the ultimate goal of this book, you have a problem. He said that. Okay, got it?

The morality to get out. The morality of getting out helps us eliminate suffering. Okay.

Didn't you contradict that? It seems like you are contradicting that. He said, you okay?

Let's go see why. Let's go see why. By the way, Mixed Nuts Rule, Shenzong Tower Rule, I went and found it.

And it's a weird book. Not weird, but Shilarakshita. There was a teacher of Atisha called Shilarakshita.

Early teacher. I don't know if it is. Could be.

Alright. Okay. Can you read something?

You want to read? Keep going and skip the black.

[Говорящий 2]
...

[Говорящий 1]
Okay, then we say, look, that quotation is talking about hlak che nyang de.

[Говорящий 2]
Nirvana with remainder?

[Говорящий 1]
Yeah, nirvana where you still have old body and mind. Nirvana where you still have the old body and mind. That's talking about them.

That's nega king minga.

[Говорящий 2]
Short term goal?

[Говорящий 1]
That's the short term ultimate goal.

[Говорящий 2]
Short term.

[Говорящий 1]
Alright, it's a joke. Got it? This is the subject.

Short term goal. Ultimate goal. Then he says, there's a short term ultimate goal and a long term ultimate goal.

It's like funny, okay? Nekap means temporary. Minga means ultimate goal.

Nekap means temporary. He's talking about temporary ultimate goal. Okay?

Okay, got it. But then we say, if it's the temporary ultimate goal, it's nying gu mayin.

[Говорящий 2]
It's not the ultimate goal.

[Говорящий 1]
It's not the ultimate goal. He says, this is the ultimate goal for a while. We say, that's so stupid.

If it's the ultimate goal, it's the ultimate goal, it lasts forever. Don't tell me temporary ultimate goal. Come on, it's so stupid.

Okay, got it? If it's the third quality of a good Buddhist book, it should be the final ultimate goal. Don't tell me temporary ultimate goal.

That's so stupid. Okay, got it? Okay, how we doing?

On time. Yeah, I love it. I can go whole night.

I was in a certain country, capital, called northern capital. Beijing. Xi.

Then, not Nanjing. Then somebody said, I said, I'd like to teach this all night. He said, okay, you go ahead.

Then I taught the whole night. Then he's like, okay, stop. We stop about four o'clock.

He gave me a ginseng pizza.

[Говорящий 2]
Okay, all right.

[Говорящий 1]
Who's going to read? Xiaoping, you want to?

[Говорящий 2]
Me?

[Говорящий 1]
Okay. Okay.

[Говорящий 2]
THIG CHEN RIN CHEN CHENG BA LAS THIG LAM THANG LAG CHEN MYONG STE THAG THUGS KYIS NING KHO YIN PA BYAS STE DE NI THAG SDONG MI SRAB BA THOG CHA MA YIN PAS BYAS STE Let's stop there.

[Говорящий 1]
Okay, good. THIG CHEN RIN CHEN CHENG BA was written by Ganden Drom.

[Говорящий 2]
Ganden Drom.

[Говорящий 1]
First grade teacher. And then a student of Tsongkhapa. This commentary is actually a commentary on that commentary.

So he will quote it a lot. And it's a great Vinaya book. And it says, THIG LAM THANG LAG CHEN MYONG STE THAG THUGS KYIS NING KHO YIN PA BYAS DE.

Okay. DE means this state, this conversation we had today, this conversation we had today, CHENG.

[Говорящий 2]
Stop.

[Говорящий 1]
Yeah, it cuts. Like diamond cutter, Dorje CHUNG, right? CHUNG.

It cuts the idea that the path, the state of mind, or nirvana with something left over could be the third one. It means it's not true. Okay?

This great, great teacher, student of Tsongkhapa, he said, LAM. What's LAM?

[Говорящий 2]
Path.

[Говорящий 1]
State of mind. It's not the ultimate goal. Not the ultimate goal.

That changes all the time. If you don't believe me, get married. She's not here, so I can't talk about it.

No. Mind change all the time. No.

By the way, I have the best wife in the universe. I love her more than anything in my life, and she asked me not to introduce her today because she's so shy. But I'm super lucky.

Anyway, path, the state of mind, and PHLAG CHE NYANG DE, nirvana where you still have some body left over. It's not the NYING RGOS.

[Говорящий 2]
It's not the ultimate goal.

[Говорящий 1]
That's not number three. By the way, they spelled NYING here wrong. It should be SNYING, right?

It should be SN. No. Wait.

In this one case, it's allowed. Okay? Just so you should know.

It means heart goal, but you're supposed to take the S off. And sometimes you have to change it to NYID, but I'm not going to tell you that because it's too complicated. NYING RGOS, ultimate goal.

Okay? He said the path, which means what? The state of mind is not the ultimate goal.

Okay? And nirvana where you still have this body, not the ultimate goal. In this goal.

In this goal. Okay? Got it?

That's not the ultimate goal. We still have some time?

[Говорящий 2]
Oh, no.

[Говорящий 1]
I don't mind. You and I might. You okay?

You okay? Alright. Okay.

We got to finish this sentence.

[Говорящий 2]
Sorry, I don't need to translate.

[Говорящий 1]
The previous sentence. No, I finished that one. Yeah, these are not Is it?

YIN PA CHE DE DE NYID THAR BDUN MI SOR THOB CHANG MA YIN PA CHE They are not the ultimate thing you want to reach. Okay? They are not the ultimate thing you want to reach.

What? The state of mind or nirvana where you still have this body and mind. That's not the ultimate goal.

That's not the point of this book. That's not the goal of this book. What's the goddamn goal of this book?

Tell me. Here we go. Please read, Xiaoping.

DE NYID NI Oh, sorry, go ahead. DE NYID NI LHAG MANG NYAN DE THOB PAS THAB SU BSTAN PA CHA BA MTSAM YIN PA CHE RO Yeah, listen, the state of mind in nirvana and nirvana where you didn't disappear yet, you still have body and mind, old one. Those are just THOB.

Those are just THOB. You know THOB CHE from DCI number, whatever it was. We did so many recently.

10 skillful means. Look, that's just that's just a method. It's not the goal.

The state of mind is just the tool. The body is just the tool. Got it?

Alright, let's finish. Last one.

[Говорящий 2]
ZHES PA'I NYIN GOS SUG GYUR PA'I LAM THANG LHAG CHE NYANG DE MA'I PHA DEN PA'I CHE RO NYIN GOS SUG GYUR PA'I LAM LHAG CHE NYANG DE MA'I MA'I means what?

[Говорящий 1]
Not. Yeah, go backwards now. There's no such thing.

MA'I as a nirvana, NYANG DE, LHAG CHE where you still have body and mind and there's no such thing as a LAM which is the NYIN GOS. Ultimate goal of this book. There's no such thing.

MA'I. MA'I means no such thing. Okay, got it?

That's what they're saying. So what is the ultimate goal? It's more, it's more deep than that.

It's more deep than that. And we have to talk about it next time. Okay, so what is the ultimate goal?

It's not just to stop the old body and mind. It's actually deeper than that. Okay.

We'll talk about it next time. Cool? Alright, now my microphone got tired also.

Okay. Sachi, me. Okay, I stopped here.

What's the date today? 325?

[Говорящий 2]
Uh, 25?

[Говорящий 1]
Okay. I'll do that later. Okay.

[Говорящий 2]
Thank you Geshe.

[Говорящий 1]
Thank you. By the way, thank you for arranging this beautiful place. Sonia and Edmund, I think.

Thank you. And we've been translating with this group for eight years. And we finished 12 books.

And you can get them if you join the Good Night Book Club. Okay. We don't sell those books.

We don't sell all of them anywhere. But if you support the Shenzong Tower every month, you get the book every month. Or some places you might have to pick it up.

Okay. And there's no limit. You can give $1.

You can give $2. We don't care. Something.

Give something. Every month. And then you can join the Good Night Book Club.

And oh, they're so fun to read. Wow. They're unbelievable.

Very beautiful. Very, very beautiful. Why Geshe-la doesn't come and tell Wagner Klein he has addiction to read those books in the morning.

Okay. They're so, so, so beautiful. And they will help your family.

You know. Okay. So, get a good night's sleep.

[Говорящий 2]
Alright?

[Говорящий 1]
Okay. See you tomorrow. See you tomorrow.

[Говорящий 2]
Yay. Yay. Yay.
