Well, well, well, we have arrived at our final session together and what a beautiful journey it has been. This is Olena Poltoretskaya and it's my joy to welcome to our translation class with Geshe Michael Roach. This is a closing session, it is open to all and it is a time to honor a profound lineage we carry forward.

Let's end with present, purpose, and joy.

[Speaker 3]
And one last time, if you feel moved and want to share your feedback, we're happy to get it from you.

[Speaker 1]
All right, hi everybody, just welcoming from our side. Hey Geshe-la, don't believe all the stories about the churros that you may have heard. I didn't hear Geshe-la, Geshe Michael, but I did hear you.

I didn't say anything, you did. But if I ate all my teacher's churros and have to go to churro hell, I would be scared. Are we on, Nick?

Time, yeah? Okay. It's time.

Yeah, we're ready to go, so whenever you're ready, I'm excited for class. We have two classes today at Chuan Tsang's Tower with Dr. Word Smith and Mr. Gibson Cheng. I'll say one thing though, these two classes are very difficult.

So, in the monastery, in the Geshe course, sometimes in the ... so that's 25 year course, it's 25 years? It's 25 years.

Sometimes in the third year course, they ask you to go to the twelfth year course for a few days, and it's very terrible and confusing because you don't understand anything. Then nine years later, when you reach the twelfth year, the seed was put into your mind nine years ago. Then you understand everything, okay?

So today, just don't understand everything and relax. And we'll see you in nine years, with Word Smith. Right Word?

Promise? Now, you got to talk ... this audience can't hear you unless you talk really into it, okay?

Hello? We're not turning his on, right? All right, go ahead.

Word Smith, tell them a little bit about your book first. Okay everybody, we're having ... yeah.

Okay, so welcome everybody. You want this one? I just did my homework and it's ...

they're having some internet issue. Okay, so ... talk a long time.

Okay, so welcome everybody. We are doing the Mind Only School of Buddhism, and this school is basically the last school that Lord Buddha really taught. And in a way, it's extremely deep and difficult.

So me and Geshe-la have been working on this book for about eight and a half years. And Geshe-la and I have been working on this book for about eight and a half years. Apparently in six months I'll understand it.

So it describes two extra consciousnesses. And these consciousnesses Lord Buddha used to describe how things work in his later years. Yeah, how things work in his later years.

So we've come to a section of the book that is arguments about these consciousnesses. One of them is called Foundation Consciousness. Say Kun Shi.

Kun means everything. Shi means the foundation. In Sanskrit it's Alaya.

Meaning everything comes from it and is perceived by it. And it is a very deep and useful idea that is not completely correct. But it is a amazing example of a teacher teaching something that is not completely correct to protect the mind of their student.

Some people freak out when they hear emptiness. So we have to be careful with their mind. Some of us even have a vow to not freak people out.

One of Arya Nagarjuna's books, he starts it with I want to teach you emptiness. Don't freak out. All right, don't freak out.

Here we go. So this is some of your very first classes. So I just wanted to have a brief review of the book and where we're at.

This is the name of the book. The part we're focusing on now is Yi Dang Kun Shi. Which are the two extra consciousnesses in the mind only school.

Yi is short for Nyun Yi. And this is the verse we're discussing. I think we should just read the English.

I will read it. So these are the eight arguments under discussion. Limitless reasoning is spoken in the scriptural tradition of the way of deep practice.

Nonetheless, these can be summarized in eight arguments concerning problems with taking birth, engaging first, the clarity, the seeds, the operating, feeling and the body, deep meditation, and dying and moving on. So these are our eight arguments. Starting with taking birth.

And ending with dying and moving on. And we're in the midst of the, we're in between the second and third argument. Okay, here's some questions you have no idea what the answers are to.

They're from class three months ago. Okay, can two consciousnesses occur simultaneously in the mindstream of a single person at a single time? What do you think?

So that means you cannot enjoy a movie. Ooooo. Ooooo.

You can't hear it and see it at the same time. Yeah. Yeah.

Dormiri. That's what he said. You can't watch it and enjoy it at the same time.

Right? That's what you said! No, it's a joke.

uh, the mind alternates very quickly. No, es un chiste. La mente alterna muy rápidamente.

And, um, we had a, we had a quote from Lord Buddha about it. He says, um, he, he, there's a book that, where he says they can.

But it's not really. Pero no realmente.

They just move really fast. And it seems like that.

Okay. What makes the foundation consciousness ¿Qué es lo que hace que la conciencia fundacional?

a possible exception to the two consciousnesses' rule. For zero dollars.

Por cero dólares. Lindsay. What does, what does foundation consciousness focus on?

Then we'll tell you, then we'll tell you if you can have two at the same time. Well, foundation consciousness mainly focuses on the seeds. But then it kind of focuses on some other mental functions too.

Like you, you, foundation consciousness, you can't use it the way you use your eyes. Here's the hint, it's kind of always on in the background.

Like the air conditioning. Como el aire acondicionado.

You only hear it when it turns off. So that's basically the answer.

Foundation consciousness is a background consciousness. And not subject to the same rules as the six engaging consciousnesses.

Like smell is considered engaging. You can be like, what's that smell? ¿A qué huele?

Alright, number three. According to Jason Kappa in this section of the text, what are the factors that need to convene for consciousness to arise? If you're listening to Word right now, how many, how many factors are, how many, in that situation, how many factors are going on?

Like what has to come together for you to have a perception? ¿Sujeto y objeto?

Those are the usuals. It's a little different, but it's similar to that. Yes, subject, object, you know, a consciousness, an awareness, those sorts of things.

Sujeto, objeto, conciencia. Yeah.

Here he says a causal condition. Se necesita una condición que sea causal. An object.

Un objeto. And a sense power all happening at the same time.

Okay. Impossible vocabulary. Okay, haremos el vocabulario imposible tibetano.

We're almost done the book, we've done every word like twenty times. So I have to pick the most difficult words.

Venerable Utpala, what does risu chepa mean? Yeah, distinguish or differentiate.

Distinguir o diferenciar. So what does risu machepa mean? No distinguish.

Yeah, not distinguish. And it's an idiom, so what does ri mean? It means hair.

Yeah. Like in English we say splitting hairs. So it's like splitting hairs.

It's like, it might almost be like fur actually, right Ken? Yeah, it's the hairs in a dog's fur. Yeah, animal hair.

And kap njepa? Nice.

I was waiting for that. Yeah, create an opportunity. It literally means open the instance or something.

And the opposite? Kap me?

Lo opuesto? Yeah, no opportunity, no such occasion. Nice.

No una ocasión así. Okay, Ken, I have student translation. Okay, aquí está mi traducción.

Then the translator every ... before his class, or her class, they will translate the next part. Then grandpa will complain about it.

Okay, shall I read it again? You read the first one, and then you choose a victim for the rest. Okay, I love victims.

Miguelte, shepa rikton ni la gung so. So, there's a book which says that, you know, two ... two awarenesses cannot go on at the same moment.

Therefore, when you're looking at the ... when you're looking at word, then your foundation consciousness much ...

must pause. And then, somebody said why? And then we quoted a book that said you cannot have two consciousness going on at the same time.

And then the mind only guy gave an answer, no no, that means two consciousness of the two ... of the same type cannot go on at the same time. But the consciousness is ...

the consciousness where seeds live, can be in operation, while you're watching something, because they're different from each other. Okay, there's no contradiction there, the true intent is that these two awarenesses can exist together. Yeah, he's talking ...

he ... gung means he's talking about two awarenesses at the same time. You can't ...

you can't ... technically you can't focus on Geshe Michael and focus on word at the same time. Because your eye consciousness is like a window, and you ...

your mind goes to look through the window, and you can only be aware of what shapes and colors is in front of that window. You can't have two objects of your eye at the same time, not possible. You can shift very fast.

So, it feels like you're focusing on two things, but you're not. Therefore, just because Buddha said you cannot focus on two things at one time, doesn't mean there's no foundation consciousness going on all the time. Because it's a second ...

it's a different consciousness, so it ... they can go on at the same time. Okay, next.

Who's going to read? I need a victim. Tim!

Tim! Yes. Yeah, good.

Thank you. It is that way also, because Jina Putra said, one may wonder, why is it inappropriate? It has been going since time immemorial.

Yeah, yeah. Okay, good. Why is it inappropriate to say that foundation consciousness has been in operation since beginningless time?

What's a difficult word here? Soma? Soma, yeah.

Soma. Soma. Usually, Soma means ...

with a B. With mastery or patience? Yeah, good.

Okay. So, he starts to quote an ancient book, but he doesn't tell you he's quoting an ancient book. But because we have a ...

basically we have an AI database of 80 million words. Which John Brady has input for 37 years. So, we know he's quoting somebody here.

Okay, next. Who's going to read the next one? I don't know.

Who's here? Mike Hoffman. No, we changed his name to Boogie Woogie.

Or Elvis, I don't ... Gyaltsey, Lala, Shik, Ndike Du, Chitte, Kunshi, Nampar, Shepa, Yutna, Deichir, Nampar, Shepa, Nyi, Chik, Chan, Jungwar, Gyurl, She, Serna. Good.

Suppose somebody would come along and make this claim. How is it that the foundation consciousness exists? Therefore, how can you have two consciousnesses happening at simultaneous?

Yeah, if it were the case ... Yeah, go ahead.

So, if you ... Remember the Wheel of Life and it has those pictures in the twelve links?

And the senses, eye, ear, nose, they are in the picture that has an empty house with windows. And then for your mind to engage with the outside world, it has to run from the eye window to the ear window.

If you're watching someone talk to you, actually your mind is running from the eye window to the ear window, back and forth, very fast. Then the mind-only guys say that the foundation consciousness, where all the seeds live, it never turns off. You would die if it turned off.

The seeds are coming out all the time. And then the other guy says, well, if that consciousness is going on all the time, then you can't see anything. Because it's impossible for two consciences to go on at the exact same time.

Because consciousness has to look out the windows. So your body is like a house, and then your consciousness is like a person who runs from window to window. Then somebody said, therefore there can be no foundation consciousness.

And in fact, the highest school, the middle way school, they don't accept foundation consciousness. And so, somebody's complaining to the mind-only guy, how can there be foundation consciousness? Then you can't see anything, you can't hear anything.

If you could see something and also have a foundation consciousness, then you would be having two different consciousnesses at the same time, and the mind would be looking out the eye and the ear at the same time. It's impossible. Okay, word.

Who's next? Maria? Nesterov?

[Speaker 3]
Yay!

[Speaker 1]
All these good readers are Word students, and he's doing a really good job, I have to say. Sometimes he does something right. Okay.

Word, do you want to read? Yeah, my English? Yeah.

In that regard, if you're going to say that, it is not a problem. You've brought an end to a problematic statement, but in that very way, it is exactly the case that there... excuse me...

that there... should be are... are two consciousnesses running at the same time.

Yeah, good. So, Dela means to that guy, who's complaining, he's complaining. How can you have two consciousnesses going on at the same time?

Everybody knows that's not legal. The mind cannot be at two different windows at the same instant. Then...

Sorry. Therefore, that guy said there's no foundation consciousness, because you can't have a second consciousness doing something while the first consciousness is looking through the eye or something. Then ...

what it says, DE LA DI SKAD RGYUD PAR BYA STE, you should ... if somebody complains, you should ... here's how you should answer them.

Okay? NYID PA MED ... No problem man!

No problem! Okay? In fact ...

could NYID PA MED ... NYID PAR DU ZHES SU ZAD This ZAD means ... it ends there.

You are DU ZHING a NYID PA. Yeah, you are ... you're talking about something that's ...

that's a problem. Yeah, you're imagining that there's a problem. ZAD, and it just ends there, that's all.

You think it's a problem, but it's not a problem. Why? Because ...

DHI LTAR ... RNAM PAR BSHAD PA NYID GCIG BYAR DU BYUNG BA'I NYID DO Yeah! I'm saying exactly that it's true that two consciousness are going on at the same time.

You got a problem with that? Okay. So, our guy is ...

our guy is saying ... our guy is who's school? Mind only.

Mind only is talking. For a hundred dollars from Uncle Mike, $100 from Uncle Mike. What do we call it when you say we are talking from the mind only school perspective?

The talker is the mind only school. There's a monastery term. That something is really there, there's some basis.

Yeah. What do you call it when you take the position of another school? That's ...

what's the Geshe term?

[Speaker 2]
Putting your hat on?

[Speaker 1]
Putting the hat on to the mind only school? Yeah. Yeah.

[Speaker 2]
Okay?

[Speaker 1]
This ... So, the other guy, and we don't know who the other guy is, we don't know what school he's in. But he said, I have a problem with your foundation consciousness idea.

Because then two ... two different consciousnesses would be going on at the same time, which is illegal. And then, our guy, us, which is ...

now we are wearing mind only hat, we are mind only school. Okay? We're like, yeah, I don't have a problem with that, you got a problem with that?

Okay? Yeah, you have two consciousnesses going on, in fact, all the time. The part of your mind which is holding the seeds is working all the time.

And then your normal mind, thoughts, perceptions, they're also going on at the same time. I don't have a problem with that, that's the NYID, that's the NYID in this, in the paragraph above. Yeah?

BYUNG BA NYID. NYID, NYID, PHYI CHER BYUNG BA NYID. He said, he doesn't say, listen honey, two consciousnesses are going on at the same time, he says, listen honey, that's exactly correct!

[Speaker 2]
Okay?

[Speaker 1]
NYID. Cariño, you got a problem with that? Okay, here we go, next, next paragraph, okay.

That's a long one, that's a long one. That's the last one. Someone you don't like.

Roxanna! Oh! I'm kidding, just kidding.

I love her.

[Speaker 2]
...

[Speaker 1]
Yeah, nice. Thank you.

[Speaker 2]
We should give her a hand.

[Speaker 1]
So, teacher, yeah, why is that? It's just the way it's described, if someone believed that then if you have a desire to see something, all the way up to consciousness, desire to use a consciousness. ...

Okay. ... It would be unsuitable for it to be appropriate that any consciousness could happen first.

... ... It could happen.

If it is that way, then there would be no difference between when your attention shifts, and sense power, or the existence of an object. Okay. I think what he's basically saying is, look, there are many components, there are many working parts going on whenever you use your consciousness.

Like, when you look at a churro, I don't know why I'm thinking about churros, there has to be a churro, there has to be an eye consciousness, there has to be a working eyeball, and there has to be a part of your mind which decides to go to the window of the eye to look at the churro. So, there's many working parts just when you look at a churro. So, we're not even talking about foundation consciousness.

Just to look at a churro, many parts of your mind have to come here and look out. Like, he says ... YI LA BYAS PA YI LA BYAS PA means the quality of holding your attention on the churro, also has to visit the eyeball.

Holding your attention on the churro, which is different from the consciousness of that golden color. That's okay, what's your problem with that? Now there's two different states of mind gathering behind your eye.

One of them is looking at the churro. One of them is holding your mind at the eye so it can watch the churro. So, I don't know why you have a problem with two kinds of consciousness going on at the same time, I don't know what's the big deal.

If you cannot have two consciousnesses going on at the same time, you cannot see a churro, got it? If you can see a churro, then you always have at least two consciousnesses going on. One is holding the mind there, and one is looking at the churro.

So, if you add a third consciousness there, which is the one where the seeds are coming out, I don't see why you have a problem with that. Okay? The argument here is that there is no foundation consciousness, because you cannot have churros coming out of the refrigerator of the seeds in your mind, and at the same time look at those churros, it's not possible.

It's impossible for your mind, for the seeds to open and create the churro, and at the same time you are watching the churro, not possible. Because two fundamentally different states of mind are going on in one person's mind at the same time. It's not possible.

Your husband cannot look at his cell phone and listen to what you're saying. It's true, right? Therefore, there's no foundation consciousness.

Because you cannot look at the churro and have seeds coming out of the second consciousness at the same time. Then the mind only guy has a cute answer. So, I guess you cannot stare at a churro.

Okay. And the other guy says, why not? Because you can't have two states of mind going on at the same time.

[Speaker 2]
You said so.

[Speaker 1]
You said that. What are the two states of mind? Number one, visual perception of the churro.

Number two, YI LA BYAS PA, the mental function which keeps your mind at your eyeball long enough to appreciate a well-made churro. Okay? We're going through seven arguments, eight arguments in favor of foundation consciousness.

Okay? Each one is a response to someone else's complaint. So, somebody said, you cannot have two states of mind at the same time.

Your husband cannot read the cell phone and listen to you, what you're saying at the same time. Then the mind-only guy's answer is, listen, anytime your husband is looking at the cell phone, he has two states of mind then, also. One is attention, the mental function which is holding his mind on the cell phone so he can ignore you.

And the second is his visual consciousness, he's reading what's on the cell phone. So, the KUN ZHI guy, the guy who believes in foundation consciousness, he's like, I don't know why you have a problem with two consciousness going on at the same time. We do it ...

we do it all the time. That's ... that's the mind-only school's answer.

Okay? Now, if you're in a translation class and you have no idea what's going on, it's like being in a ... a meeting at work and you've been sleeping, and then the boss says, you understand?

And you go, mmm ... Alright, good. Okay.

Let's begin. Yeah, and that quotation came from, I don't know, a thousand years ago or something, and because we have John Brady's database, we can go check it. And we went to check it and it's ...

it's correct. Okay? Tsongkapa doesn't make mistakes about quoting ancient books.

The Tengyur is 210 volumes. The commentaries from ancient India are 210,000 pages. The sutras and tantras are an extra hundred thousand pages.

The books which survived from India in Tibetan language are 310,000 pages. At the time that Tsongkapa wrote this book, that ... those two collections were not finished yet.

They ... they were still creating them. He saw the first copy.

He read it for like three weeks, and he memorized it, and he quoted it for the rest of his life. Now we can check it by the computer and he's correct. Okay?

He memorized it. Okay? Cool?

So, don't complain when you have to memorize a small prayer, okay? Okay, nice job Word. By the way, Word finished one very important book already.

It's called The Golden Key, and now he's finishing his second book. Yesterday he asked me, Geshe-la, what's my next book? Because he's almost finished with this second book.

And there's a book that I'm in love with. It has a special place of honor in Buddhism. So, I don't know, Tsongkapa wrote ...

I forgot ... over a hundred books or something.

When they print those books together, the first one is always the same. And that's his explanation of the Bodhisattva vows. And it's called ...

Jangchub Shung Lam, The Highway for the Bodhisattvas. Yeah, The Highway for Bodhisattvas. It's so famous that it's always the first book in the set.

It's quite long. It dissects every Bodhisattva vow. In great ...

in great depth and beautiful. And I never taught it to anybody. I taught it briefly in California.

I don't know if you were there. Vajrapani. Yeah.

Like, what was it? 25 years ago? 30 years ago.

So, Word is going to translate that book for us. Yay! Yeah.

Because the Bodhisattva vows come from different sources. And it's a little confusing, and it's very helpful to have an explanation. Okay, let's go to the real book.

You have the playing bus. By the way, at 6 p.m. Mexico City time, 5 p.m. World Central time, Rimrock, Arizona. We usually stop the class, and then the translator will discuss with the audience for 15 minutes.

How can you use this in your real life? I already gave you a clue about what you can say to your husband, but just start thinking about it. We have about 12 more minutes, okay?

And after Word finishes that group discussion, we will have 15 minutes of Peachtree World News with Don Juan Hussle. Okay? Don Juan.

Okay. Alright. We gotta go...

Yeah? Yeah, we just did that again, so... Okay, good.

There's the quotation. Okay, Word, who's gonna... But this is the third of the eight arguments in favor of...

I call it the refrigerator. Why? That's where all your seeds live.

It's the part of your mind where all the seeds live. When you get angry at somebody, you yell at them, that creates a seed in a ... in a little part of your mind.

And that place where the seeds live is called Foundation Consciousness. So, we're going to have eight arguments why there should be a Foundation Consciousness. And we're starting number three.

You might ask yourself, if the higher school, the middle way school, which is the highest school, the correct school, even in the diamond way, if they don't believe in a Foundation Consciousness, where do they say your seeds live until they open? Okay, you got to think about it. Okay, Word, who's going to read?

Is ... Ale, Alejaso, are you online? Alejaso Linia Valera.

Ale. We can't hear you. Maybe.

She might not be available. Oh, hi, Ale. Can you read at the top there?

There's no sound. When the students don't want to read, they turn off their microphone. Okay, Ale.

You ready? Okay. See, I told you.

Turn on your microphone, Ale. Something's going on. Bottom, down at the bottom.

No? Okay. Oh, no?

No people online?

[Speaker 2]
Oh, I didn't know.

[Speaker 1]
Oh, I'm so sorry. You want to read Word, or you want to have somebody else read? Oscar?

Oscar. You're picking all your best students. They're all the best.

Rick Pazumpa. Rick Pazumpa. Kyelte namshe nyi chikchar min yukna, yikki nampar shepa selwar min yukko.

Yeah. Rick Pazumpa. The third reason, or reasoning.

Third logic in support of foundation consciousness. Kyelte, nampar shepa nyi, There's two consciousnesses. Well, he's going to say min yuk.

Yeah. That there's not two consciousnesses, chikchar, occurring simultaneously. So, our mind only guy says, okay, let's suppose you're correct, and that two consciousnesses cannot occur at the same time.

Okay. In that case, your yikki nampar shepa, your mental consciousness, selwar min yukko, can't happen in a clear way. So, the other guy said, you can never have two consciousnesses going on at the same time.

Therefore, I cannot accept that there's a seed storage consciousness going on underneath everything all the time. I can't accept that. Then we say, well, I guess you cannot appreciate churros.

Understand? It means you cannot look at the churro, and be aware that you are looking at the churro. See what I mean?

Your eye consciousness looks at the churro. Then there's an awareness that you are looking at the churro. It's that feeling, that self-awareness, I am looking at the churro.

So, we say to the other guy, if you say two consciousnesses cannot go on at the same time, I guess you can never say I love churros. Then, by the way, he's going to say something like, yeah, you can look at the churro, and also think that you're looking at the churro, but thinking you're looking at the churro is not necessarily very clear all the time. Then we say, no, it is clear, it can be clear.

[Speaker 2]
You can ...

[Speaker 1]
you can say, there's a churro, and I'm looking at it. Okay? We say it is possible for those two perceptions to be equal in strength.

And he says, selwa min juk, the awareness of me would have to be just not very clear all the time, because two states of mind cannot go on at the same time. Okay, who's next? Well, how are we doing on time?

Five minutes. I think we have Ale, if you want her to try. Oh, I was trying to give her the short one.

Ale, read the first two lines. Is she there? No?

She's hiding again? Technical difficulty? What did I say?

I don't know. Yeah, I don't know. Anatole, do you want to read?

Anatole? Anatole?

[Speaker 3]
Nice! Perfect!

[Speaker 1]
Nice! Then, wait, he says, or we say, he says, if it's true that two states of mind are going on at the same time, if you can look at a churro and also say, I am looking at the churro at the same time, which is two objects, I and the churro, then the self-awareness of I has to be a little bit unclear, because the mind cannot focus on two objects at the same time, which your husband proves in the kitchen. Now, if he says something like that, what's our next job?

We have to prove what? You can have a foundation consciousness and have a clear perception at the same time. Yeah, or, or you can be looking at a churro and be aware that I'm looking at a churro, you can sustain two different consciousnesses at the same time.

You do that all the time. Don't tell me it's not possible. You are doing it while you're listening to me explaining to you while you're doing it.

Right now you're using two consciousnesses to listen to why I'm in favor of two consciousnesses. So, let's go a little fast forward. Okay, yeah.

Wait, he's ... he says, chitta! How, how was that?

How's that work? How's that work? Well, the wang shi, the consciousness of the sense, the ...

yeah, the I consciousness looking at the golden color of the churro, okay? That's a good one. The churro, it's focusing on the yul.

Object. Then behind there, there's a yi gyi nam par shepa. There's a mental consciousness.

Behind there, there's an awareness, for example, that I'm looking at the churro. And they are going on at the same time. And each one's gyuwa is selwa.

Each one's movement is clear. No, no problem. The awareness of the churro is running smoothly, and parallel to that is a second awareness that I'm looking at the churro.

Then he says, what about when you chenpa a yul? What about when you have some kind of memory of an object? In that case, is the self-awareness as clear?

Would you say that the memory is as clear as staring at the churro? Not my memory. The quality of a memory of a churro, the quality of the perception degenerates over time.

The memory of the churro is never quite as clear as staring at the churro. But the tattaway wangshi, the present tense perception of it, the way it gyuwa's to the object, the way it moves towards the object, selwa duggu, you have to agree that it's you have to agree that it's clear.

Yeah. Therefore, two consciousness can occur at the same time. We're saying, look, I agree, if you're talking about the second consciousness tomorrow, I saw a churro yesterday, I agree that the two consciousness are not equal clarity.

Looking at a churro, and being aware that you are looking at a churro, I agree that if they are separated by 24 hours, there's a degradation of the second consciousness. But in the moment, in the present moment, the awareness of the awareness of the churro, selwa rung, it's totally appropriate that it's clear. Yeah.

I agree that the memory of a churro is not as clear as the first perception of a churro. But that almost implies that you have to agree that before the memory started, in the present moment, the perception of me perceiving the churro was both clear. Therefore, don't tell me foundation consciousness cannot be operating at the same time that the eye is watching a churro.

Because foundation consciousness is not a memory. It's spitting out seeds for the churro, and for the perception of the churro at the same time. The churro is fresh, and the appreciation of the churro is fresh.

Therefore, two states of mind can run at the same time. It's an argument in favor of enjoying churro. Okay, Grandpa's going to go sit, and we're going to ...

you guys are going to discuss how can you use this thing. With churros, of course. Just don't tell Nick there's churros.

Okay. Thank you so much, Geshe-la. Okay, so right now, I'm supposed to act like I have any idea whatsoever how to use this practically.

But I'm going to stall for a little bit, and ask you if you have any ideas. Do you have any ideas? This person right here.

[Speaker 2]
Hand up.

[Speaker 1]
Let's see if I understood correctly. I want to do this exercise. The example that comes to my mind is to take a path, like a highway or whatever, a path for the first time.

At that moment, you have to have the two awareness a hundred percent. The foundational consciousness, which is there all the time, realizing everything that is going on, and the part of the mind that is focusing on the path, the space, the light, how to use the car, all of it has to be happening at the same time. The second time that you go on the same path, day by day, the first consciousness is awake, present.

And the second one, not the foundational, but the second one, the one that is aware of everything, it gets kind of sleepy, because you are in automatic now.

[Speaker 2]
We are automating so many things that we get lost in them at the moment, and life simply passes. We don't realize how we are planting the seeds, because we don't take the time for the details. And I understand that meditation is like an antidote for that, because it allows you to train the two consciousnesses, to be in the here and now with the two, being conscious.

And to be conscious of the seeds that you are planting with each of the things that you are doing.

[Speaker 1]
Or be aware of the seeds that you are planting with the things that you say or do. Sounds good. Okay.

That was perfect delay, thank you. So I thought of something. Because the mind only school happened after middle way.

Basically, there was a confused student. And he said to Lord Buddha, wait a second. He said, for like 20 years you said everything exists.

And then for 20 years you said there's pens. Then for another 20 years you said there's no pens. I'm confused.

Are there pens or there are no pens? So Lord Buddha had to think on his feet. Because he realized the student wasn't ready.

Of course everything comes from us. That's the explanation that makes sense. But the student was a little confused by it.

Or felt like it was too extreme. So Lord Buddha is like, well some things exist and some things don't exist. It's like your mom explaining Santa Claus after you saw your dad putting presents under the Christmas tree.

Well the parents help Santa. Oh, okay, okay. And so Lord Buddha, he came up with like a hybrid.

But the hybrid has gaps. It doesn't quite make sense. So he used kunshi as a way to bridge the gap.

And I think obviously it's masterful. Because most people aren't ready for the full pen. They need a foundation.

It almost functions like a soul or something. Something that's that is always there. That's always in the background.

Because without it, it feels like there's nothing to hold on to. And there isn't. But that's good.

Because if there was that consciousness always there, then you couldn't project something yourself. Emptiness is a opportunity to create anything. And once you understand the process consciously, you can create whatever you want through how you treat people.

Still the foundation consciousness is pretty cool. Jason Kappa says you can basically go all the way to enlightenment with foundation consciousness. Yeah, with that concept.

Because the seeds do ripen. They are held somewhere. They are perceived.

We just don't need the extra consciousness to do it. So really, two consciousnesses don't function simultaneously. But until you get very deep at meditation, it seems like they are.

In which case, this is a useful idea. And that's what we need for students. Useful, and then the next level.

That's it. Thank you so much. So now we're going to have the Peachtree World News with Juan Hasso.

Gracias, Word. Flavia, me ayudas? Te ayudo.

Gracias. Should I go? Up to you.

Sit down. Come on, join. Thank you.

All right. Muy bien. Yeah, this is the kind of classes that we have.

Well, not this kind of class, exactly, but... Every Monday, every Saturday, we have these classes, translation classes. So, if you want to keep watching them, I'm going to leave the QR codes.

They can watch in Spanish, in Russian, Chinese, English, many more languages, Romanian, sometimes Word watches in Chinese, maybe. No, but this guy is really, really amazing.

He's training a lot of people to read well and understand, I hope. So, if you want to be able to read this and follow along the text even deeper, talk to him. I won't promise he won't charge you, but he can help you one way or the other, I bet.

Okay, so, yeah, follow the QR if you want. Translation classes and also you can get all the information about the Spanish... How do you call it?

Spanish... Yeah, like the Spanish team of these classes. Okay, next please.

And if you want to hear more about different organizations and events, QR code for the news segment that also happens every session. Okay, and if you want actually to get... How do you say?

If you actually want the books, if you want the actual books, then you can sign up for the Good Night Book Club. This year we got the one that World just finished. Super difficult.

Super useful for going to bed. But you can sign up and then they're going to send you the books.

And then if you are part of this book club, next picture please. Oh yeah, you can also sign up for the daily mailing list that Geshe-la sends us. And it's super beautiful, super cool to be on that list.

It's like Geshe-la sharing a little bit of his daily life every day with us. He shares pictures, videos, sometimes jokes, actual text, thoughts, beautiful, beautiful.

And then news also. Sometimes he actually helps me to do my job. I just copy-paste.

Thank you, Geshe-la. And also, there is going to be a Spanish reading club coming up soon. Then you will find friends that can, I don't know, talk about the book.

That's what reading clubs do, I guess. I've never been part of one like that.

[Speaker 3]
Maybe I try. So, you can talk to Brian, Rosa, Oscar. Just follow the QR code.

[Speaker 1]
Now let's talk about rejoicing about amazing things that are happening. And Geshe-la mentioned it already. Some friends and teachers, students from Guadalajara and also Mexico City, they have been working very closely with Medita Mexico and Conalep.

And it's an amazing project because it's reaching out thousands and thousands of young people, youngsters. So, we want to show you a video and I would like to, just a few people involved, Sofia, Nayif, Fer, if you want, just for people to see your faces.

More news to be happy. La gira de Latinoamérica. Latinoamerican tour.

Me gustaría invitar a Aldo Arzapalo. ¿Aldo? A la gira de Latinoamérica, Aldo Arzapalo.

I would like to invite Aldo Arzapalo to talk about Latinoamerican tour. It's the president of this Latinoamerican tour.

Y super buen amigo. Really, really good friend.

I would like to know more what is this project about, what the group has done and what is the future. Gracias, Juan.

This project is about going physically to different places in Latin America and really share this ancient wisdom.

This is a picture from one month ago. Hector Marcel y Alex Rivas went to Costa Rica.

It was a very successful event and we're going to be there soon. No, próximamente vamos a ir. The next place is that we are going to visit.

It's going to be Paraguay in one month. Vamos a ir a Colombia.

We're going to visit Colombia. Peru. Peru.

Paraguay. Paraguay. Y Argentina.

And we are going to Argentina too. I would love to thank Lucero and Sandra, the main organizers in Colombia.

Sebastián de Argentina. Sebastián from Argentina. Un aplauso.

Muchas gracias. Y quería agradecer mucho a nuestros donadores. And I really want to thank the people who donated.

Principalmente a la Fundación de Veronica y Geshe Michael. Muchas gracias por su generosidad. A Xiaoping y Stanley.

Muchas gracias. Mainly the organization that Geshe Michael and Veronica have. And also Xiaoping and Stanley.

Seiji and Nur. Seiji and Nur.

All of them have supported this project so we can make it possible. We need a lot of help to keep doing this.

So if anybody wants to participate, wants to visit a place or wants us to go and visit a city or a place, please come talk to me or Pau. Muchas gracias.

And lastly, if you feel like donating, there is a link and you can use it and you can donate. Okay. Thank you.

And then we have, where is Tim? ¿Y tenemos a Tim? I'm here.

No, ¿dónde está Juan? Tim, thank you for coming. ¿Yo estoy hablando en inglés o en español?

No, de verdad lo olvidé. Okay. Okay.

¿Algo muy especial está pasando ahorita? There is something very, very special happening right now.

We have a big group of people that are connected on the other side of the world. Queremos conectarnos y que nuestra host, Jasmine, desde Malasia, y que Jasmine, from Malaysia, y nuestro gran productor y director, Tim Lowenhaupt, and our great producer and director, Tim Lowenhaupt, nos guíen en el futuro de los programas de este año. Guide us in the future of the programs for this year.

Bueno, entonces me gustaría preguntarle a Tim. What is the thing that you like the most in this event?

And what is the next event? Obviously, I love being here in Mexico.

Obviamente amo estar aquí en México. But what's really cool is because we have Jasmine here. Pero lo que se me hace súper cool es ahora que tenemos a Jasmine, she took on the responsibility of hosting a simultaneous event in Malaysia while we're here in Mexico.

And she's going to be doing this again when we're in Phoenix in October.

But most importantly, y más importante, I want to talk about Kyoto. Me gustaría hablar acerca de Kyoto. And I'm wondering, Jasmine, if you can tell us what's going to be happening in Kyoto in December.

Yes. It's my honor to launch this beautiful project with Tim, with Five Houses Team.

Firstly, I would like to greet to our Mexico friends. Hola, amigos de Mexico. Maybe I've been in Guadalajara for a few times.

And I'm so... And, Jasmine, give time for translation. Oh, sorry.

I'm so happy to see a lot of old friends, a lot of familiar face.

I'm so glad that we're still in the wisdom. We still practice, study the wisdom together.

So, I would like to introduce what will happen on December at Kyoto with Tim, with Five Houses Group. So, project will start on 11th of December.

The first day will be the review day. And we will review all the classes, all the main classes that Geshe Michael teach in this few project this year.

So that we can have the students to catch up, to catch up the main and important contents and we used to teach for this few times. On the 12th to 15th, there will be four days on December that we will study with Geshe Michael again for the opening the door to Diamond Way in Kyoto.

That means in Asia. That's the only one time in Asia that we can face to face and study with Geshe Michael, with our senior teachers from Five Houses in Asia.

Just like what happened here in Mexico City for this time. And also after all these five days study, we will have an option for the students who want to digest it in a circle day for three days, and that's an option for all of us.

And so for me, I really warmly welcome that Mexico friends, please, Mexico City friends, Guadalajara friends, please come to Asia, come to Kyoto, and we can meet, we can hug, and we can study with Geshe Michael again for the very special and deep beautiful teaching about the preliminary teaching before we go into Diamond Way.

[Speaker 3]
So Jasmine, thank you so much for everything you're doing for the Five Houses.

[Speaker 1]
You're really, really helping us expand in the Asia market.

And most importantly is that we're getting these teachings to many more people because of you. So thank you, and please stay, and please keep helping.

Gracias. Por favor, quédate y sigue ayudándonos. Gracias, team.

Gracias, Claudia. Thank you, Jasmine. And now it's time to go to the next class with Gibson?

[Speaker 3]
Yes. Let's go. Thank you, Jasmine, so much.

[Speaker 1]
