[Speaker 1]
Hey, hey, hey, what's up Stanley? Good morning. Good to see you.

Good to see you. Yeah? You sure?

I think 80% sure. I mean, you know.

[Speaker 2]
Looking good. Where are you these days?

[Speaker 1]
The Royal Place in Phoenix.

[Speaker 2]
Ah, the Royal Place. Nice.

[Speaker 1]
You're doing a nice job. Yeah, I like that. I like that place.

Going back, going back to today though. Okay. The boss finished all his duties here today.

Good, good, good, good. I'm glad I was taking care. Well, welcome everybody to Xuanzang's Tower.

And we have a special team class today with Mr. Stanley Chen.

[Speaker 2]
And it's special because, well, because it's Stanley, but also because he's going to lead the class in Chinese. So, which is very, very cool.

[Speaker 1]
So those of you who, for whom Chinese is not your first language, if you don't understand it when you listen to it, you might want to select your channel in the interpretation. Those of us native English speakers have been spoiled where mostly we don't have to click on that little interpretation globe and select something and choose English. And I'm looking forward to your team class today.

And then I think Stanley is going to give us a little or big description of a project that he's been working on. That, as I understand it, has a lot to do with mixed nuts. And I think that there's a lot of potential future partnership.

So, we can talk about, we can hear about it today after the lecture, after the translation class. Ready when you are then, Stanley. Yeah, I am.

Thank you, Nick. Okay, I'm going to switch channels. You might want to go to the English channel also.

Oh, I'm there. All right. Oh, okay, great.

Okay. Welcome back to this Shenzhen Tower team class. Team class means that the few of us are together, except Geshe Michael.

We are here together to learn the classics together. Oh, yeah, okay. If you want to listen to Chinese, you can stay here.

If you want to listen to English or other languages, please choose your language in the interpretation channels. For me personally, I enjoy teaching in Chinese. I want to teach foreign friends in Chinese.

But actually, for example, Nick, his Chinese is quite good. And today we are very happy that we have a lot of friends from all over the world, outside China, to feel the beauty of Chinese classics. And I know that there are a lot of languages here, the different translators.

There are German, English, Russian, Ukrainian, Vietnamese translators here. So if I speak too fast, please remind me. There's a special characteristic in Chinese, meaning we use a few characters, but a few characters have to be translated into English for, say, 30 seconds.

So there's a possibility that when I speak, the translator needs longer time to translate. So please remind me if I speak too fast. And our content today is very special.

We will go back to the teaching of Abhidharma. Why Nick looks so confused? Maybe it's not me, right?

Okay. Okay. Okay.

Last time, we started to talk about the five heaps, 18 categories, and 12 doors of sense in Abhidharma. And today we will go into a very special topic of Abhidharma. Abhidharma is the six types of cause and four types of conditions, meaning six types of causes for things to happen and four contributing conditions or factors.

This is the highlight of Abhidharma, because the six causes and the four conditions are written into the CCI Level 7 by Geshe Michael. So we are trying to place focus into a sort of boring Abhidharma content. So this also makes me happy.

I mean, listening to Level 7, I feel happy about it. And some time ago, Geshe Michael was in Hangzhou having online and on-site Level 7 with you, where he teaches this content. And I guess all the organizers all over the world may be doing review of the Level 7 now.

So I'd also like to take this opportunity to talk about the original contents of the six causes and four conditions from the Abhidharma text, which may help you to deepen your understanding or clarify some of your questions. Especially this six causes and four conditions is very important in Abhidharma. And Geshe Michael mentioned that in the Abhidharma Samuccaya, we are also talking about something related to this part.

So it's a suitable time for us to discuss this today. And I would like to try something with you today. In the past, when we talked about the six types of causes, we placed more focus on how to touch the diamond world in Level 7.

Because touching the diamond world is something for most of us that hasn't happened before. So how to trigger this most important experience in life, this kind of experience that we have never experienced. Actually, we can try to explore this from the perspective of the six types of causes.

I see that Upala has some reaction, so meaning our translator is doing okay. So today we'd like to use another perspective to do a parallel reasoning. Parallel reasoning is a parallel logic.

Parallel meaning two straight lines going in the same direction. And this time I would like AI to make six fingers for me. And parallel means that both sides are about six causes.

On one side, we talk about the six causes to touch the diamond world. But today we will use this parallel line to talk about the other side. The other side meaning how does the six causes correspond to innovation.

How do the six types of causes trigger the beautiful innovation experience? Because in the past year, I have been doing a new project, Innovations Repeat IR. And actually IR is very related to Dunhuang West.

These two projects are parallel projects as well. One is a commercial business project. One is a non-profit project.

In this project, we are trying to bring to the modern business people the ancient arts from Dunhuang, hoping to help everyone's work and also their inner spiritual world, bringing them innovation. Innovation which is the most beautiful experience for them to break through their limitations. Limitations of life and health and in relationship.

And we need innovation in all aspects of life. So today we will do this parallel exercise to do this reasoning. One being the touching diamond world, one being the innovation repeat.

And for this, we will go back to our first book of Abhidharma. Keshe Michael has been talking about the second book as the Mahayana Abhidharma. But today we are going back to the smaller Abhidharma, the Hinayana version, which is the kosha, in which there is a very clear explanation of the six types of causes and four conditions.

And here we have another parallel, because we are talking about the big Abhidharma and a small one, the Mahayana and Hinayana. And in this class, in the end, we will share about our progress in the Dunhuang West project. And we also want to recruit some volunteers to join our project.

And in this class, we welcome you to interact with me. You can always type in the chat room. Next, let's invite Nick to read the Chinese first.

[Speaker 2]
Okay, ready? Yeah. Tell me the first character.

[Speaker 1]
好 好不好?

[Speaker 2]
好不好? 好不好?

[Speaker 1]
好不好? 好不好? Okay, just kidding.

So may I invite some Chinese-speaking people to read the first in Chinese? Okay, Carol.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. 所以你看,这里,这个宋, From here, you can see that it says the first, so the first meaning the source text in the Abhidharmakosha. 来进行的。

然后在这个许因为六种,最后一句讲到,就是 It mentions that there are affirmed as the six causes, and in the end it says that all the changing things has a cause. So in Abhidharma, it emphasizes on how things happen, and we are trying to look into how things happen from the perspective of the cause. And talking about cause, how many types are there?

It says only six causes here. This only is an important word. Which six types?

We will take a quick look. The first one is the enabler, a doer, doer cause, the coexistence cause, the homogeneous cause, the concomitant cause, the pervasive cause, and the maturing cause. There are six types.

What do they mean for each of them? Each type of them, how does it work to touch the diamond world? And today when we are talking about the parallel with the innovation, what is that?

So this is what we are going to discuss today. First, you don't need to worry about the names. These names are from 1,300 years ago, a translation from Xuanzang.

So it's a very ancient way of name. But now in DCI, we use modern language. So you don't need to worry about this ancient language.

May I ask someone to read about the doer cause? Can I start? Yes, please.

First, the doer cause asks, physical nature, physical body, outside of the body, does not hinder, etc. Read it. The second, the doer cause asks...

Oh, that's enough.

[Speaker 2]
Oh, is it okay? Enough.

[Speaker 1]
One by one. Okay, okay, thank you. The first type of cause is the doer cause.

It asks, what is the nature of the dual cause? Nature means what is the definition? What is its function?

What is its nature? And it asks, what is the nature of the dual cause? This definition is amazing.

It is by Choney Lama Jagpa Sheksu from Gansu, China, a very famous person. In the Ming Dynasty, about 400 years ago, a wise person who started his own institute. So the definition is given by Choney Lama.

This kind of writing is very suitable for us to read nowadays. This is mentioned by Geshe-la many times. So in Zenzang Tower, we translate a lot of his works.

And here, his definition on dual cause is when an entity arises. When we talk about cause, there must be a result. So this entity means the result.

When this entity arises, all other factors. So this means anything apart from this result. This result is mentioned in DCI.

So all other factors that do not obstruct it are established as a dual cause. Any entity itself, all other things that do not obstruct it to happen, this includes people, things, etc., are established as a dual cause. So the standard of this dual cause, and I mentioned about the style, it is very passive.

You don't need to do something. You just need to not obstruct it. For example, in Level 7, what will obstruct you touching Diamond World?

If there is something that obstructs you, then it's not a dual cause. So let us look at the negative side. Meaning what will obstruct this?

And in Level 7, it is mentioned that we need to do four powers to clear the old bad seeds. Because these old bad seeds will obstruct us to enter the Diamond World. So this dual cause, the style is sort of passive.

You don't need to do something specifically. You just need to not obstruct it. For example, today, if we have to go back to Sedona from Venus, if we want to go back to Rimrock, normally we will say, what causes will make sure we can get back to Sedona?

There is, you need car, you need transportation, you need to calculate your time, make the time arrangements. What time do we need to depart? And you need a driver to drive back.

So these are active actions. But for this dual cause, we don't need to think about all of these active things. Although its name is dual, but Geshe Michael translates it as passive, which is more accurate.

We don't need to think about all these active things. We just need to think about what will obstruct it. For example, if you ask me to think about how to go back to Sedona smoothly, one thing I have to avoid is traffic jam.

If we get into a traffic jam, then that's an obstruction. Or we have to avoid driving crazily on the highway, which may cause traffic accidents. So this is a prevention thinking.

When we talk about the different types of cause in Abidama, the first type tells you, you don't need to think about the active things. You need to think about what to avoid. And this type of thinking is very effective.

In the United States, there is a thing called defensive driving. What do you need to prevent? Because if the obstruction appears or arises, then this dual cause is abolished, it doesn't work.

Because if there is an obstruction or if there is an obstacle, then you need to avoid it. The thinking behind four powers is you have to think what to clear. In this dual cause, this can be something preventive.

You can prevent in advance, which is very cool. Let me ask you, talking about innovation, especially for those who have taken IR courses, we have mentioned a few things that can be obstacles for your creativity in the classics. We have to look for those obstacles and clear them.

And what do you think of those? Yes, one of them is jealousy. Jealousy is a very deep seed obstructing creativity.

One thing we always mention, which is about translation and mixedness, recently we have been talking about creativity through lucid dream. Someone mentioned about mobile phone addiction. I sum it up as a kind of over business, meaning you don't stop without stopping.

If you keep working, working, working without taking time to stop and think, this will become an obstacle for innovation. Another thing is a too noisy lifestyle, and mobile phone is one of those, which can become an obstacle for your innovation. Recently, Gach Michael has been talking about eight hours of sleep.

Insufficient sleep is a very big obstacle to innovation. And now, I'm very cruel to ask a lot of you to come to my class at 11 in the evening. So actually, this is a type of obstacle.

Then you may find that you don't have much inspirations tomorrow because you have not slept enough. So what I want you to remember is to have enough sleep. If you keep using your phone or too much work at night, and you don't go to bed in time, not only are you wasting your time of sleep, but also from the opportunity cost of economics, you are losing some innovation opportunity.

Because working too late will let you lose the innovation in the coming weeks. So this is a very high opportunity cost. And so today, what I want to inspire you to think today is when you stay up late, not only you lose a night of good sleep, but also for the other day or the coming week, you will lose a lot of good ideas and creativity.

And those inspirations that can help you get a breakthrough in life will not come to you. So you have to pay attention to this. I love myself.

I love staying up late, but I also cherish these good ideas. So in order to help myself be able to innovate in the future, which will make our life fun. So we need to join the goodnight book club and go to bed at 10.

You can also think about other negative sides of the dual costs. For example, the habits of using the phone, like this kind of noisy lifestyle can become a big obstacle to you. And someone mentioned about jealousy.

And there is another point that is the body and mind being not healthy, not taking good care of our own body and mind. And like Steve Jobs, when he was sick in the late times, it was difficult for him to innovate. So for a lot of artists, if they get into mental illness, it's very hard for them to innovate and create.

So now let us look at the second one. Although I can't see where you are, please read it out loud. Okay.

具有因,问云何具有因性相?

[Speaker 2]
答,若法互为因果,相互饶益, 是具有因性相或体性?

[Speaker 1]
Okay, thank you. I see it, I see it. Okay, the second one is called 具有因.

The second cause is called the coexistence cause. What's the name in DCI? The name is not like mutual cause or simultaneously arising cause.

Here we say it's as coexistence cause. And let us first look at the definition. What is the characteristic of the coexistence?

When phenomena mutually serve as cause and effect. So in your mind, what you see is two things. For the dual cause, what you have to think first is the obstacle.

And for this type of cause, the coexistence cause, I want you to think about two things together. Okay, I really want to use Russian to reply, but I can't. So in this, sorry, it's gone.

Wait a minute. Yes, when we talk about the coexistence cause, I want you to think about two things first. Thank you.

Okay, I have to talk about two things that exist at the same time so that they can serve as a coexistence cause. In Abhidharma, the coexistence cause has a characteristic. These two causes serve as cause and effect.

And they have to exist at the same time. Two things have to exist at the same time to become a coexistence cause. And they not only have to exist at the same time, but they also have to support each other.

In the classics... No English? Is the English translation available?

Okay, is it okay now? Okay, they have to support each other. Both these two have to support together.

Not only have they exist, but they have to exist together. They have to benefit each other, meaning they support each other. And in Abhidharma, we always mention about the four, like the big four.

Someone mentioned about the mind and the mental function, which is in a later course. But a more typical example is the four elements. For example, for the fire element, for a very strong fire element, in the flame, in a fire, there's also the earth element and water element.

But only that the fire element is the stronger one. And the wind element means there's mobility. For example, like a stone, it has a very strong earth element.

If there's no wind element for fire, then when a tree is burnt up, then it will stop. But because it moves, there's mobility. That's why the fire can go from one tree to the other tree.

So from this perspective, the fire element and the mobility are cause and effect. And they support each other. When you have one, then you have the other.

And I wonder whether you remember that in level seven, there are two very important things, which is the co-existence cause with touching the diamond world. Two co-existence causes support each other. Yes, the first one is finding your teacher.

A qualified teacher who has climbed to the top of the human layers. Having this teacher is a co-existence cause with touching the diamond world. And here we mentioned about benefiting each other.

So in level seven, we say that a teacher will help us touch the diamond world. But the other way around is also established. Learning emptiness will help us get a better teacher.

We may not have thought about this in the past, but for pursuing touching the diamond world, this longing, because we are talking about a mutual cause and effect. So this longing will help us get a better teacher or help our teacher become better and better. For example, when we have a bigger and bigger longing for the touching the diamond world, then our teacher will give us a better and deeper teaching.

You'll find that this makes sense because this is a mutual cause and effect. This should support and benefit each other. So from this perspective, even though we have a teacher, he can decide what to teach you.

So your practice for learning emptiness and whether you respect the Sun Tzuang Tower enough, whether you preserve the classics for yourself, will help you create a very outstanding teacher. This is very cool. So we should stop complaining that we don't have a teacher.

From this coexistence cause, not having a teacher means that we have not learned well. A lot of times we think that we need a teacher to learn well. But this coexistence cause tells us that we have to learn well, then we have a good teacher, which is very meaningful.

And for innovations, can you think about to do an innovation retreat successfully? What is the coexistence cause? What factors are related to a successful innovation retreat or related to breaking that first breakthrough?

I would especially place focus on professional IR teachers or professional caretakers. These professional IR teachers and caretakers are mutually supportive. From this perspective, if we want to have a successful IR, having this very professional teacher and caretakers and corresponding teachings is very important.

For a negative example, if you want to do an innovation retreat, but your team, your catechists are not professional, you will face a lot of disruptions. For example, they call you every day asking you what do you want for lunch? And they don't understand that they can send you a note.

That's why recently we are starting a job for doing a catalogue for the IR, which is a very important coexistence cause for having successful IR. And the other way around, if we are willing to practice, this innovation retreat, this will also promote for us to have a better teacher and better students and a better organization of the volunteers. So I really love this idea of the coexistence cause, which is very beautiful.

Our symbiotic cause, it is a very beautiful relationship. Not saying one is above the other, they are supporting each other, which is also the same for teacher and student relationship. They help each other achieve success.

So you can give it a thought. If you are an IR teacher or an IR student, do you have enough coexistence cause? This is something we can give it a thought.

And the next one is a homogeneous cause. May I ask someone to read it? 前即善,不善,無即。

能生後即與自種類相似之善,不善,無即。 如文所成為文,思,修,三所成之同類因。 思修二所成之同類因。

修所成為修之同類因。 I love your voice. This name of the generic cause is easy to understand, meaning the cause and the effects are of the same types.

So it refers to that which produces an effect of the same type. I would like to really talk about the examples given here, which are very beautiful. We mentioned about three types of wisdom.

According to this tag of getting wisdom, we have learning, reflection, and meditation. Learning is what we are doing in the Senzang Tower class. We are listening to a class and we gain wisdom.

And after this, we discuss with our friends, we debate, and we give it a thought, we think about it. Geshe Michael loves to give an example of driving back to Sedona from Phoenix. And through this thinking, you generate wisdom.

Then in classics, you will find that there is such a thing that before students ask a question, you go to a secluded place to think deeply. I think when I am quiet, then, like in the chapter 7 of What I Really Meant, Bodhisattva asked the Buddha about a question, which arises in his thinking. And the third wisdom is meditation.

Meditation means the practice where you go deep inside to generate insight. And this meditation practice is the deepest among the three, and it is unshakable. And in the classics, it says only having learning and reflection without meditation is not enough.

But with meditation, the insight that arises will become part of your mind, which will not be blown away by strong wind. Because inside of you, you have the wisdom. But in order to get this wisdom from meditation, you have to do the learning and reflection.

Before we go into retreat, if we want to get the wisdom from meditation in retreat, before this, we have to do a lot of learning and reflection. Because if you don't spring into your retreat with something in you, you go in empty. So, these three things, these three learnings, these three trainings are related.

So, we need to do learning, then we can do a reflection, then we can do meditation. So, we have to first listen to the Sun Fang Tao class. You have to come back regularly every week.

You have to really be committed, more committed than dating with your girlfriend. Then you have purpose to bring in, purpose inside you for you to reflect on. And then afterwards, when you get into retreat, when you go into silence, then you can really generate insight.

So, these three are related. But one thing very cool is, from another angle, talking about this generic course, about the three trainings, it says that the wisdom gained from learning, there are three wisdoms gained from the three trainings, the three kinds of wisdom. These three wisdoms are the same type, but the higher one will trigger the later one.

So, the wisdom gained from learning will trigger the wisdom gained from reflection. And the wisdom gained from reflection, let me repeat, like what we are doing now, when we learn and we get some wisdom, this wisdom can serve as the generic course for the wisdom gained from learning, reflection and meditation, personal thinking and debating with friends, which is the reflection. The wisdom gained from this reflection serves as the generic course for the wisdom of the later two trainings.

And for the wisdom gained from meditation or retreat will serve as the generic course for itself. It is also a progressive relationship, but cannot be reversed. The wisdom gained from meditation or retreat cannot serve as the generic course for the higher ones.

So, you have to progress forward, you cannot reverse. Meaning, if you go into retreat, it cannot replace your past time or only thinking, only doing your personal thinking, only taking part in book clubs, personal reading. All of this is part of the reflection.

Only this alone is also not okay, because it cannot become the course for the wisdom gained from learning. So, you can only progress forward and you cannot go backward. So, now I am advertising for coming to class.

As long as you have the ability, as long as you have taken care of your family, try really hard to come to class. So, you have to go forward. It is a single way, not like the course we mentioned about.

But this one is a single way, is a one-way relationship. Okay? And we have 15 more minutes.

Okay. 等互為,彼無此不生,知因果固。 彼婆殺宗,許此為真實因果,於宗許為假利因果。

嗯,好,謝謝,謝謝。 抱歉,我剛剛忘記,要先回到這個同類因當中。 Sorry, let's go back to the generic course, because I forgot to talk about the innovation part.

What is the generic cause for innovation? If we put innovation, if we put the idea from innovation into the wisdom from meditation, What is the wisdom from learning and reflection? What is the generic cause of these two?

In level 7, it emphasizes on learning the unique wisdom that can help trigger the touching of the diamond world to Jagat because it is of the same type with the experience of touching the diamond world. It is the most specific and accurate wisdom to learn. So, learning and thinking about Qi-Jag drug can trigger touching the diamond world.

But if we talk about innovation, I can think of a few. In IR, we have always been emphasizing on a mindset which is called curiosity. You can hardly imagine someone without curiosity to have a lot of innovations.

Having curiosity is to have an open mind to explore and have an open mind to receive instead of just muddling along. Instead, you have the curiosity to see what beautiful things will come. Ultimately, I think this curiosity is about thinking about karma.

This is the ultimate curiosity. But of course, there are many kinds of curiosity. Like Xiaoping, the president of CSEU.

She is very curious in how to establish an institution. Like a few days ago when we were staying in a hotel in Phoenix, this hotel has a hundred years of history. And she would look for the story of the founder and the history of the hotel.

And she is very curious. For this, she will come up with a lot of new inspirations on how to build DSEU. For example, if we go to a hospital, President Zhou will also try to look for the story and history of the hospital.

And she told me that the hospital was founded by three fathers and sons. This is similar to Tsongkhapa. So this hospital was founded by a father and two sons.

And after a hundred years, it became the Mayo Hospital, the best hospital in the whole Arizona. It is a non-profit private hospital, the best in Arizona. So this type of curiosity is very important.

Especially in retreats, we will practice a very special type of curiosity. Last time, Peshala also mentioned it in Dunhuang, which is the curiosity to look for the special messages. Through the leaves moving by the wind or through animals passing by.

Through this, we look for the special messages. This is a very special kind of curiosity in retreats. For me, I can see it also as a generic cause.

You can cook it. And just now, someone read the concomitant cause. A very typical thing about the concomitant cause is the mutual effects between the mind and the mental factor.

For example, the mind and the mental functions, they focus on the same object at the same time. For example, when you are at a Shenzhen Tower class, your main mind is focused on the screen and on the content. But at the same time, your mental function of thinking is also focusing on the same object.

This is one of the concomitant relationships. There are five types. Here it says that when mind and the mental function share the same exclusive supporting condition, we have to break up the mind and the mental function here.

The mind means the main mind. The mental factors are the functions. So we have to separate them.

Just now, someone mentioned about the same example. When we were discussing the other cause, but actually the mind and the mental function should be put here. But I would also like to clarify that the mind and the mental factors also are part of the coexisting cause.

So here, and in level 7, what did we say that is a concomitant cause of touching the diamond world? For example, after you touch the diamond world, your appearance may not change. Because it is a pure conscious movement.

But what is the concomitant cause? What attitude does it have a concomitant relationship? Level 7 mentioned about two attitudes.

One being the respect towards your teacher. The other as the compassion towards other people. And in the classics, it says respect and compassion.

Respect or reference towards the teacher, and the other one as the compassion. And by the way, the respect we mentioned here is a mental ideology. Geshe-la also mentions that he doesn't really expect people to bow to him when students see him.

But it is some mental ideology or affection towards the teacher or the classics. It's like some mental kind of affection. Instead of like you have to show it with your body language.

Because students can say a lot of respectful words, but they may not have the feeling of respect in the heart. So here the attitude is more on your respect and the love for the classics in the heart. And for compassion, do you really care about other people?

So these two attitudes are having a concomitant relationship with touching the Dharman world. And for innovation, this is very interesting. For innovation, Geshe-la especially mentioned about two attitudes.

The first time when Geshe-la taught IR in June last year, he taught remember and be grateful meditation. Like you remember the past generation and you feel gratitude. In this meditation, you thank all the sponsors.

In the past, all these sponsors who contributed to the murals, the caves, the protection of the caves for the preservation of classics. For me, sponsors not only support financially. Anyone who has supported and has put in a part are the donors or benefactors.

So in this attitude, you thank them. And another attitude is what should I do for the future generations. So these two attitudes are related to the concomitant cause for innovation.

If you go to Dunhuang, you will easily feel the gratitude for the past people. Or you can easily feel that you care about the people of the future generations. For example, if you go to a thousand-year-old cave, you can feel the weight of the thousand years of history left behind.

Even the air in Dunhuang feels different. And the next one is pervasive cause. This part we don't have much time, but actually we can discuss a lot about this.

This pervasive cause means it is pervasive everywhere. It has always existed. Wherever you go, no matter what time and where, it exists.

I have to ask Nick, what's the name? Or may I ask? Pervasive?

No, not pervasive. Yeah, it's omnipresent, but it's not. There's a different word.

Actually, it's not really pervasive cause, but it means it's always there. And in the classics, it talks about the 11 types of paintings, the 11 types of wrong views, which exist no matter what you do. Even when you are doing good things, you are misunderstanding what you are doing.

If we use DCI language, a very interesting example is when you are telling others the pain story, your pervasive cause is that you are misunderstanding of the pain when you tell others the story. When you are telling other people that this comes from your own seeds, but at the same time, your pervasive cause is the misunderstanding. For example, the phone on my hand, the message that I receive on this phone is sent by the other person.

This is very interesting. In the IR context, what kind of universal attitude can help with innovation? Professor Michael mentioned about a stable mood.

That is a stable pleasure, stable happiness generally, which is a generic stable mood. This kind of state of mind, which is like sunshine, is an omnipresent cause for innovation. But how to achieve this kind of mental state that is like sunshine?

The gratitude meditation that I mentioned about is one of the methods. And the last one. Is there anyone who wants to read it?

Professor, I'll do it. OK, please. One, two, one.

Did I cut off my voice? Or did she cut off her voice? Can I do it?

OK. Now it's OK. You can read it again.

I couldn't hear your voice just now. OK. 非是亦孰亦,雖有愛潤,然無自利固。

助無漏善,非是亦孰亦,雖有自利,然無愛潤固。 Please read it again. OK.

問云何亦孰亦,答相亦而孰, 是此亦,是其此亦, 因事有計,果為無計,因果相異。 OK, cool. 所以這個亦孰亦其實是我們所有人都熟悉的。

For this maturing cause, it is something that we are most familiar with. That is cause and effect. Why do we call this maturation?

First, it means ripening by mutual dependence. First, we say that the effect is not the same as the seed, so they are different. First, the timing is not the same, the place is not the same, meaning for cause and effect, the effect does not happen at the same time with the seed, so they are called cause and effect.

For example, like if you pull up a pen, if you give a pen, and you get back the same pen, it is exactly the same pen, you do not need to give it, but there is a difference. And here we also mention about good and bad deeds. Here it especially talks about nourished by craving.

Nourished by craving means the second link and the eighth link in the wheel of life. If you have learned level six, you can review it. Once you plant a fresh seed, this fresh seed will become a mature seed, and in this it has to go through the important link seven and link eight, so there are two kinds of cravings here to nourish it for it to ripen, which is very interesting.

This is what we are most familiar, but today what I want you to pay attention is this phrase. Why do we call it maturing cause or why don't we call it karma? Because it emphasizes on maturation.

The seed planted and the effect, they don't have the same place and time, so that's why when we talk about planting a seed, you won't get the same result from the same person at the same place. So the seed and the cause and effect, they are not the same. So when you do volunteer work at some place, you may not get a result at the same place, at least not at the same time.

If you put in some effort in a relationship, you may not get a reward immediately. So you have to know the result happens in a different time. Today you listen to a class, you won't become a wise person tomorrow.

It will mature if you give it enough time. So this is very interesting for us to think. And for the IR context, what is the maturing cause for innovation?

Which is also the most important cause, the most basic cause. Someone answered in chat room, which is some DCI teaching, that is to feel happy or celebrate other people's innovation. And there is a stronger one.

For you to achieve breakthrough and for you even to see future ideas, you can look into the future and see ideas that for other people that have not happened. For you, you can see it in advance. So that's what we want to achieve, innovation with breakthrough.

And that is also what we talked about in October last year in Diamond Mountain on the IR course. One is curiosity, these two attitudes. One is curiosity, the other is give back, especially giving back to future generations.

Like when we are so fortunate now that we can do something for future generations, for example, like 100 years after, this special, this unique way of giving back is that you are building a connection with the future. Because in your mind, you are thinking about 100 years later or 200 years later, what you can do to help those people. So it's like you are making a call to them.

And from the perspective of Karma, you have planted the seed. When you plant the seed of helping future generation, of course, one of your result is you can see the future in advance. Now we have some time, I have 10 minutes to do some advertising.

After 10 minutes, we will have PHP news. And now I would like to do some advertising and share with you some progress of our non-profit project at Sunpoint West, which is also a good opportunity for you to make a phone call to future people, which is a cool thing. Like now, when Elon Musk's rocket has not landed, China has already landed on the moon.

So even though now the East and the West have not been able to call aliens, but we have a way to make a call or communicate with the future. So give me seven or eight minutes to do a small advertising. Thank you for your participation.

And thank you, Nick, for your support. Okay. A few weeks ago, two or three weeks ago, we launched the plan for our Dunhuang West projects in Dunhuang.

There are a few things that we have to do, and I want to share them with you. Some non-profit projects. The first is that we have to do a new catalogue for the Dunhuang Chinese-Tibetan-English catalogue.

This is the library cave and the works found in the library cave. There are 60,000 scrolls or 60,000 volumes discovered, which is the biggest collection in modern history. And this discovery, in some way, is also a result of an intentional cooperation between the East and West.

And we all know that to make use of this classics is not easy. We have to do a lot of work and a lot of processes to bring them to people's daily life. And the first step is to, even before inputting them, even before inputting is to do a catalogue.

In the past 100 years, there have been a lot of people editing the catalogue for Dunhuang. Let me show you some examples. This is one of the catalogues.

You can see here, they mention about some classics. And here also some other non-classics work. This one is a position, a person who organizes parties, and a lot of political information.

And here, there's another Buddhist sutra. So you can see from this kind of catalogue, all types of contents are here. Two memoranda on shoes.

So you can see it's like all kinds of contents together. Account notes for arrows and armor, which is about weapons and equipment. And here is a controller of military stores.

And here is something on law. And there is a yoga commentary or Abhidharma by Pashik commentary. It's a very huge work.

Can we say there's no catalogue? There is, but is it easy to use? It's very difficult because you have to know this number to use it.

And in later times, someone put more effort to do a more detailed catalogue. This is a series of catalogue named Dunhuang Treasure. The wordings here are very small, but there are a lot of different types of sutra.

You can see that the sutras are categorized here together. So it seems to be quite good. But actually, you see where there are blue hearts, are the other types of content mixed here.

For example, this one may be a Taoist text. And when you see this name, you know that it's not a Buddhist sutra. And how about this one?

It may be about calculations or mathematics. And this one is about a novel about the ancient Silk Road. So you can see there are novels here as well.

And here, this is a poem written through the content of Buddhist scriptures. So you can see there are a lot of scriptures here. And where you see a blue heart, it is different types of content mixed here.

So it has not put all the works into categories. And now recently, we have a new plan. This list is in the ALL catalogue of the past 50 years, which is strictly organized according to the categories.

So you see Kangwa and scriptures. And in Tibetan texts, there are lots of different categories. And for example here, one of the deities that we are most familiar with is Vajrayogini.

In Vajrayogini, there are also a lot of different practices. Like here, we see retreats. So there are retreats related to Vajrayogini.

So this catalogue is very user-friendly. It is very easy for you to look for things here. For this catalogue, we have not really translated everything into Chinese.

And here, I want to show you the titles about retreats under Vajrayogini. We have all the English but not Chinese. So what we have to do is to start editing this catalogue and then put the corresponding Dunhuang books into this catalogue.

This is what we wanted to do. So in the future, when you want to use a book from Dunhuang, you know where to find. You can look for Abhidharma or Mind Only.

So this is a very important achievement of Geshe Michael in the past from his learning experience. It is his masterpiece for us to use easily. And then the other project that we have to do is to start editing a dictionary of eight languages.

And for Dunhuang, there also exist a lot of dictionaries. Let me show you a few of them. So these are some dictionaries edited by some scholars on Dunhuang in the past.

They are very good, very nice. But why do we want to edit our version? Because according to Geshe Michael's teaching, we can break up the learning in Dunhuang into eight types.

So there is Abhidharma, Mind Only, Middle Way, Upper Middle Way, Lower Middle Way, Wheel of Life, Lojong. So there are eight languages. Why do we call it eight languages?

Because in different types of languages, the same word has different meanings. So this is the next thing that we are going to do. I don't have enough time, so I will stop here.

But we will edit this kind of glossary in the style of Two Husbands in the Kitchen. So this is something we have started doing. We will put the vocabularies in the style of Two Husbands in the Kitchen.

And for building caves, I don't have more time. You can take a look at our website. And the last page is about an invitation for you to support us or become a volunteer.

I'm sorry that I have taken two minutes of time from history news. So I will stop here. In the future, I will share with you more information.

And if you are interested, you can scan the codes to learn more. Thank you. Bye.

Sorry, Nick, I didn't watch the time carefully. No, no, no problem. And maybe we can even do the rest on Monday or another time.

No problem. Because it's a very fascinating presentation and project. And I appreciate all that you're doing.

Also, I think we can feature something like this on Peachtree maybe. Maybe, yeah, yeah. I'm not stealing Juan's time.

He just didn't. You have to coordinate with Mr. Hasso about that. Yes, I will.

I will. Thank you. Hi, Amelie.

Why your hair is such longer? What's going on?

[Speaker 2]
Stanley. You see it, Stanley? And Hasso.

So, yeah, that's what I was thinking exactly. Like, you don't need to take time. You see?

I don't know in English. You don't take time from Peachtree World News. You just take time in Peachtree World News.

Yeah, let's talk about it.

[Speaker 1]
Yeah, we'll schedule some time.

[Speaker 2]
By the way, a lot of people were texting me like, why Stanley has a happy birthday balloon? And we were all like, maybe it's his birthday. But what's the story?

[Speaker 1]
It's Xiaoping. Two days ago.

[Speaker 2]
Three days ago. We have to celebrate on Monday. Yeah, and she's doing a big job at her birthday.

You can interview her later. Perfect. Okay, cool.

Very cool. I'm going to give everyone the context of what's happening. As you can see, I'm in a wooden cabin.

This wooden cabin. Yeah, those are the news. The wooden cabin.

I am in the small town of Bowie in Greenbrook, Arizona. Because Diamond Mountain Retreat Center is hosting the Five Houses grand opening event, I would like to start sharing some pictures with you. So anyways, people in Diamond Mountain right now are on a small island base where we get the opportunity to go a little deeper and insight, which I personally find it super healthy.

I love it. Sometimes to be quiet and alone. And some other times I also like being social and spending time with people.

But to me, this balance is very healthy, I will call it. And also enjoyable. Just giving you that context, people will finish their silent retreat tomorrow morning.

And yeah, their retreat basically finishes, the program finishes tomorrow. But let me tell you right now also something else. If you are not doing the silent retreat, tomorrow Geshe Michael is going to have a special talk conference aimed to specifically Ukrainian audience.

It's an event that you can register. It's free registration. I just got to hear about it just super recently.

I think it was last night or something like that. Then I tried to gather the information. Our dear friend Victoria and Anna as well, they shared this, I don't know, poster information.

So I'm going to show you really quick how it works because it's a little, it was a little difficult for me because I don't speak Ukrainian. Everything is in Ukrainian, but the class itself is going to be in English. So I'm just going to, you follow the QR code.

It's going to take you to a website. I was hoping to share really quick my, yeah, but I need to find the website I want to show you so you can register for it. Let me see.

Okay, here it is. It's going to take you, are you seeing? I hope you're, are you looking at the website?

I hope so. You go here and then you just type your phone number, whatever your email, and they send you a Telegram group. And I hope they will give us the information there soon.

But it's for free. You just register and get your Michael. Tomorrow, 9 a.m. Arizona time. If you have Ukrainian friends, you can ask them to help you if you get a little stuck on it. Okay, so that's tomorrow morning. So I'm going to be going on kind of order of things happening.

Will tech table help me again sharing the screen, please? Yeah, yes, thank you so much. So, yeah, that's tomorrow.

Our next event we have after it's going to be, next picture, please. Yes, on the beginning of May, the G-Box program is having their second presentation or program this year. This time is going to be wordsmith, Dr. Wordsmith and Dr. Paulina Franco. It's going to be every Saturday just before these classes. So the idea is like people that are interested, just tune to their session class and then move on to the whatever translation class. It's this program is going to be based on words, text, the key to know the golden key.

Right. Yeah. So it's a text on mind only, but it's going to be a very practical emphasize or a practical.

I forgot the word, but it's like a practical way to use it in your daily life. The end of the most subtle pain based on mind only ideas. Next picture, please.

Yes. And this event also I got to hear just very recently. Geshe Michael and John Foley are going to be going to Vietnam in July.

And they're going to be teaching live from a resort over there on July 11th to the 13th. You can also register on the QR code. I was talking with one of the main organizers, Miss Jumi.

And, yeah, she told me everything is sounds very, very excited. It's going to be live. They both going to be there July 11th to the 13th.

And you can start registering now following the QR code. As you can see, it's part of DCI global productions. After that, after July in Vietnam, we're going to keep going with programs of the five houses.

And this time is going to be in Mexico City. The next one is in Mexico City. But what I wanted to mention as well is that if you, for whatever reason, cannot come to Mexico in this case, or you cannot travel to the American continent or whatever it is, there is like a simultaneous production happening in Asia organized by Jasmine Zhao mostly.

And people are also gathering together to kind of have a simultaneous retreat in person. This time, they just had one in Malaysia. And a few special guests or teachers were invited to also give talks while other activities were happening here at Diamond Mountain.

I think Hector was there and Supriya was there. So, yeah, you can read more information in case traveling to United States or traveling to Mexico. It's difficult for you, but you still want to get together and spend the retreat time with a group of friends, people.

You can also attend some events happening in Asia at the same time, simultaneous. OK, next picture, please. Oh, wait, I think we missed something.

But anyways, we'll do it later. Also, I just hear from Yuki, one of the organizers of the yoga organization called Prema. They do wonderful retreats in Japan.

They're going to help Tim Lowenhaupt to produce an event based on the Five Houses programs to happen in Japan. This time, it's not in Kyoto, but in a place very close to Kyoto. It's called Tokushima in Japan.

And it's going to be at the end of June, June 28th until the beginning of July, July 3rd. It's going to be based on this idea on how to develop as far. Well, I don't know.

I'm going to talk to them lately. But you know, it's happening. I'll tell you more information later before I say something that I'm not actually sure.

I'll better wait this time. Sometimes I do things I'm not totally sure. But anyways, I wanted to show you at the beginning of this presentation a very cool video.

My friend Osiris from Mexico. He does a lot of work for ALL. And as you know, ALL is basically the organization that Geshe Michael founded that helped us to get all this material that later becomes programs, retreats, books, translation classes, and everything.

Geshe-la many times calls it the snow at the top of the mountain. And they did a beautiful video just kind of to summarize what's the vision in general and also a little bit of the plan. Let's call it that way for 2025.

So I'll show you the video. And yeah, I hope you enjoy it.

[Speaker 1]
Incredible manuscripts on the order of Dante or Shakespeare or Plato. Unbelievable, beautiful, fantastic works of knowledge. Our goal here is to go around the world, find existing copies and try to preserve them and input them on computers so that everyone can have them distributed free of charge throughout the world.

I think by preserving the documents, we also help preserve culture. The books are spreading all over the world and the ideas are spreading. It's becoming an unbroken chain of knowledge or instruction that's been passed on the last two and a half thousand years.

Fortunately, we are all in this together, because if we don't act now, these treasures could be lost forever. An immense corpus of knowledge, fragile, irreplaceable, is disappearing with time. We live in an ever-changing world full of challenges, yet we thrive.

[Speaker 2]
And each day we safeguard these books, not just to preserve them, but to bring their wisdom to life. The urgency is real, but what is truly at stake? This knowledge is not just ink on paper.

It is the root of our civilization, the foundation of our values, the source of our deepest ideas. These texts have shaped minds, guided seekers and sparked humanity's brightest moments of consciousness. To lose them would be to lose something far greater than words.

It would be to cut ourselves from the roots that sustain our spirit. The Asian Legacy Library exists to ensure access to this knowledge, so that future generations can learn, grow and transform.

[Speaker 1]
Together, we can create a more peaceful and awakened world. Join us.

[Speaker 2]
Thank you, ALL, for all you do. It was wonderful. Teacher John Brady and Teacher Connie, they were in Diamond Mountain.

They had to go back to Rimrock, but they're going to come back soon. Just sending them regards and thank you for all your work. And just finally, two things.

To a little celebration that now Diamond Cutter Classics is actually offering the whole content of these classes and their website in Russian and also Indonesian. They finish with, you can see my screen, it's like the different segments of their website. Now their Russian language is totally available.

You can see also the Indonesian. And next they're going to be working on Romanian. So I want to thank and congratulate the whole Diamond Cutter Classics team and especially also Natasha Loginova, because she has been working a lot with this project of having the website in perfect.

Thank you so much. And just to let you know, next event on The Five Houses. Tomorrow we finish with Diamond Mountain and next is Mexico from the 18th to the 21st.

We'll talk about it more later, but you can start making your plans. Usually Mexico is an easy place to come. So if for whatever reason, United States is difficult for you, Mexico should be easier.

Okay, see you next time. Hope you enjoy. Best wishes and see you on Monday.
