[Speaker 1]
Here we go. So, in the kitchen, we got to go back to the kitchen. I like the kitchen because I like to eat a lot.

So, in the kitchen, it's possible she will get angry. Anger is one of the six main negative emotions, called klesha. In Sanskrit, klesha.

I don't know why it's so easy to remember the word klesha, probably because we have them all the time. So, possible she will get angry. But only if she misunderstands her husband.

The only way she can get angry is if she really believes, I didn't do anything. He called me stupid. Okay, only if she misunderstands the husband.

What's misunderstand the husband look like? Are you believing? He yelled at me.

Okay, that's misunderstand. That's what they call ignorance. That's avidya.

That's the first link of the Wheel of Life. So, don't think some deep sutra thing. Okay?

The misunderstanding which creates all pain, is that, I didn't do anything. And he yelled at me. Okay, so if you cannot find the sutra in the kitchen, you didn't find the sutra.

Okay? Now, so she get upset.

[Speaker 2]
I didn't do anything.

[Speaker 1]
She get more and more upset. Okay? If she don't understand the husband, she can get upset.

If she does understand the husband, it's impossible to get upset. Okay? You ready?

Okay. Then you call me stupid again. You're stupid.

Then, I just came back from the, I just came back from the retreat. So, it's fresh in my mind. I take the pen out of my pocket.

You're stupid. Yeah, oh come for me, come for me. It's my fault.

I plant him. If you don't like your husband to call you stupid, then stop calling your kids stupid. Okay?

Stop planting bad seeds. How do you prove that your husband is correct, that you are stupid? Yeah, you say, I'm not stupid, you're stupid.

Then you prove you're stupid. Okay? Because that plant a new seed, and then the kids are bad.

Okay? So, where did we reach in the lam rim? We've been doing it for nine years.

This is the 33rd retreat. Where are we? We are in the part called Moksha, liberation.

What's liberation mean? Freedom from the cycle. So, what's the cycle?

You don't understand your husband. You call him, you think he, I didn't do anything. Then you call, see, I'm not stupid, you are stupid.

You plant a new seed, then the kids are bad again, then you call them stupid, you plant a new bad seed, next week the husband calls you stupid again, and it's a cycle. The big, big cycle is called the sansara. And if you stop reacting negative, you don't have to come back to this kind of world.

You will always live in a perfect world. Mandala, right? So, we are studying how to stop negative emotions.

We are inside the section of how to get free from this world, and we are trying to study how to stop the negative emotions. And there's two methods. Okay?

One is ultimate method, and one ... in English we call band-aid temporary method. It will help you for a few hours or something.

Okay? So, the ultimate method is the pen, okay? But if you can't remember the pen, you're too angry, then he gives the six temporary methods, and we're going to learn them.

Okay? When you take an aspirin, does it work? Yeah, sometimes.

[Speaker 2]
Okay.

[Speaker 1]
Why does it work? When it works? Because you helped other people in the past who had headaches.

Okay? So, there's no chemical inside the aspirin which take away your headache. You put that chemical in the aspirin.

Okay? So, Geshe-la, if I make the seeds and I get a headache, can I eat a churro instead of aspirin? She's like ...

The answer is, if your seeds are very, very strong, you can eat a churro, and when you get a headache, it will take away the headache, and it will give you no calories. But, if your seeds are not that good yet, you need ... we call it the vehicle.

You need the vehicle. Okay? You need the aspirin.

The aspirin itself is created by smaller seeds.

[Speaker 2]
Okay?

[Speaker 1]
Then the power in the aspirin is created by bigger seeds. So, it's still useful to do the temporary methods because you don't create new bad ... let's, for example, sorry.

If you know your husband's going to call you stupid, when you open the kitchen door, then don't open the kitchen door. Just don't go in the kitchen. It will help.

You will get stronger. Okay? Because you are not going to make new bad seeds.

So, it's not going to solve the problem, but you will not make a mistake on top of a mistake. Okay? In this book, it's called The Strength to Hold the Sword.

Okay? The sword is understanding seeds.

[Speaker 2]
Okay?

[Speaker 1]
But, you need to build up your mind to understand the sword. So, it's kind of like taking vitamins before you go to the soccer match. Okay?

Taking vitamins is not winning the World Cup, but it will help you when you go to the World Cup. Okay? So, there are things you can do before you go into the kitchen.

That will help you to get stronger. And we're talking about them today. Okay?

And there's six of them. So, here we go. GSUNGS PA MYONG MO'I RGYUD LA GRUG LAS There are six smaller causes for those negative emotions.

Okay? And let's talk about them.

[Speaker 2]
Okay?

[Speaker 1]
Number one is called the seed ... let's say in the kitchen you're going to get angry. So, that anger comes from two kinds of seeds.

The big one is the, I don't understand the pen seed. That's the main troublemaker. I didn't do anything.

But you also have a smaller seed, which comes from all the times in the past that you got angry. Okay? So, try to understand when you lose your temper in the kitchen, there's two causes.

The deeper cause, I didn't do anything. That's the deeper cause. Okay?

And then the other cause, not so deep, is that you got angry at your husband 200 times before. So, you have anger seeds from getting angry at him before, and under those seeds is a more powerful seed, called I didn't do anything. You want to go deeper?

The I didn't do anything seeds create the 200 got angry before seeds.

[Speaker 2]
Okay?

[Speaker 1]
There's a relationship. So, actually if you weaken this one, you can weaken this one. If the next time you think you're going to get angry in the kitchen, you go to McDonald's instead.

Krispy Kreme. Krispy Kreme. Forget McDonald's.

Then at least you won't get angry today. And that a little bit help you to understand, I didn't do anything. Okay?

So, every time you can avoid anger, not by fighting with the pen, but by running away, it still help you. It still help you. It still make you stronger.

Okay? So, we have to avoid those negative feelings any way we can. If you're a super meditator, then the minute the husband call you stupid, take out your pen.

I heard the Dalai Lama talk one time. It's so funny. Then he's talking about, you know, if your neighbor want to fight with you, and he was talking in Tibetan and he had a translator.

Then I was listening to both. Because of course I'm jealous of the translator. I'm trying to find some mistake in his translation.

so Dalai Lama said, if your neighbor get angry with you, and first time call you stupid, then just say, you know, I'm sorry. If I made you upset, I'm sorry. Then if he comes back a second time, call you stupid again, you know, make your patience stronger.

And, you know, try to be polite. And if he comes the third time, call you stupid, then tell him, kyakpa so, and 5,000 people are there in New York, and I'm the only one. I'm like, kyakpa so means, tell him to eat shit.

Then the translator is like, tell him you are not happy. Then I'm like, ah, that's not a translation, you know. But, he was just kidding.

Okay, so if you come in the kitchen, and you, you try to remember the pen, but it's not working, then try to leave the room as fast as you can. Why? If you get a little angry, you are reinforcing anger seeds.

Not, not ignorance seeds, anger seeds. Okay, so the ... here's the first one.

DANG PO BRTEN NI BSTAD PA'I RNAMS BHAG LA NYAL TE RANG RE MED KYI BSTAD PA'I DRUNG BYIN MA THUB NA So, let's say you got sick, and you got a serious cold, okay, and you were careful, you had good sleep, you took vitamins, you ate well for a few weeks, okay? But you didn't really get to the seed of the cold. It's still there.

And if you eat a Krispy Kreme donut, it will come back in two hours, okay? So, the seed is not gone. You just ate well for a few days, but the seed is still there.

So, this is how he describes the anger seed. ZAD SOGS CHUNG ZAD TZAM GYIS BLO BA If you eat something bad, because the basic seed is still there, you will get sick again, okay? Because you still have the seed for anger, if you stay in the kitchen, and you don't have enough strength to use the sword, then you will get angry.

Then you will plant another seed for anger seed. ZUNG ZAD TZAM GYIS BLO BA So, BSKYEN DANG PHRAD NA NYON MONGS PA'I SA BON YOD PA'I BSKYEN GYIS Because you have the habit of anger, RANG RGYUD LA NYON MONGS SKYE CHOG CHOG CHOG CHOG means that anger is always ready to come up. It's just the husband look at you, and you're like, okay?

Okay? So, what are you supposed to do? Look, this is, if you're too weak to use the sword, your pan-understanding is not strong enough, then understand you're not strong enough.

And avoid circumstances where you might get angry. Avoid small ones, and then you won't get angry in the big one. So, for example, avoid traffic.

If you can, use Waze app, and try to avoid getting irritated in China, because that small irritation seed will blow up in the kitchen. Okay? So, learn to manage your negative seeds.

There's a trick I'll teach you, okay? So, if you have an anger problem, and we're talking the first of the temporary methods, okay? Try to avoid collecting smaller seeds for anger.

And let's say you have an overeating problem. You have a desire problem. Krispy Kreme donut problem.

Jenny Wang, where are you? Why they put Krispy Kreme store in the jewel shopping center in the Singapore airport? You tell me.

It just gives me trouble. Why is Krispy Kreme in Singapore airport? In Singapore.

So, you know, I was there a few weeks, a week ago, then I walked by the Krispy Kreme in the Singapore airport, and then I'm like, Scott! That's why I like Scott, because he will always eat bad things with me. I'm like, look, Krispy Kreme, you know?

Look, Krispy Kreme. Then I thought, I shouldn't tell him there's a Krispy Kreme, you know? He didn't see it, I saw it.

Okay, so, I know I'm going to tell him in the next two minutes, I'm going to tell him. Now, how to deal with this first temporary cause, okay? See, delay your bad karma.

Okay? Don't try to fight it. Don't try to stop it.

Okay? In your own mind, in the Singapore airport, tell yourself, I am going to tell Scott there's a Krispy Kreme here. Decide.

I'm going to tell him. The only question is, do I eat one or two? Okay?

Then, delay. One minute. Two minutes.

This is a very powerful antidote to the small seed. Okay? Delay.

Every minute you delay, it's a very powerful seed. If you have alcohol problems, get the wine. Tequila.

[Speaker 2]
Right seed.

[Speaker 1]
Open the bottle. Decide, I'm going to drink it. Then wait for two minutes.

Fight your seed for two minutes. That fight is a very powerful good seed. And later they will help you to not drink at all.

So, delay your bad deeds. One minute. Two minutes.

Three minutes. You are making 3,600 seeds per minute. Okay?

So, take it. Take the karma.

[Speaker 2]
Get the interest.

[Speaker 1]
Okay? Wait. Just delay.

Then drink the whole bottle. Have ten Krispy Kremes. Okay?

Understand? And the delay seeds is more powerful than the bad seeds. Okay?

That's a personal advice. Okay? From a Krispy Kreme addict.

Okay? Just delay for a few minutes. You are making over 3,000 seeds per minute.

So, so, delay. Delay. And then later those seeds will be strong enough that you don't want the Krispy Kreme.

Okay, that's the first of the six. Second one is very simple. Avoid, avoid your husband.

Okay, very simple. It's called avoidance. Avoidance.

Okay, here's the scripture. Okay? RGYUD GNYIS PA MIG PA'I RGYUD MI'I RGYUD DU MI'ONG BA SOGS PA DE DAG DANG PHRAD NA RANG RES MYONG MONG GI BSAD PA MA SPANGS PAS Because we have the seed for anger, because we allowed ourself to get angry at the husband many times already, if we meet him when he's in a bad mood, there's definitely going to be a fight.

And to prove it he quotes Abhidharmakosha. Stanley's translating it. He's scheduled to finish in 2034.

36? 46. Sorry.

I'm going to be 98 or something. Okay, I have to plan on that. Okay.

So, RDZOD LAS, Abhidharmakosha says, PHRAD SKYES SPANGS PA MA YIN DANG, YOD NI NYES BAR GNAS PA DANG, TSUL SHING MA YIN YI BYED LAS MYONG MONG GI GNYIS TZAM BA YIN Okay? If you want to have a really good complete anger moment, make sure you get in the same room with your husband. Think of him the wrong way.

I didn't do anything. And you got all the things you need to have a big fight. Okay, so being near to the Krispy Kreme shop is also going to cause you to have desire.

So, next time I go to the Singapore airport, I want to go to the Jewel shop. They did a smart thing. This is ...

only Singapore will do this. They built a huge beautiful shopping mall in the airport. I'm not talking one or two shops.

I'm talking hundreds of shops with a fountain that's four stories high, and it goes backwards. It falls down. And ...

you know, it's so smart. Orchard Road in the airport. You don't have to go to the city.

Okay, so ... Anyway, so next time I should try to avoid the ... I know where's the Krispy Kreme.

I know which floor. Jewel has many floors. The Krispy Kreme shop is on the first floor.

But you can get to the Jewel shopping center on the second floor. So, according to this Abhidharma Kosha, next time I'm in the Singapore airport, I should avoid this first floor. Probably with my karma, they will move the shop to the second floor.

Okay, NYON MONGS SKYE BA'I DE DAG RGYANG ZING GANG THUB BYED. Say RGYANG, ZING, GANG THUB BYED. When you're in a bad mood, put as much space between you and your husband as possible.

The Tibetan is very funny. RGYANG ZING GANG THUB means put as much distance between you and your husband as possible, when you're in a bad mood. RAB CHUNG RNAMS BSGOM PA DANG RIGS CHOS SOGS NA, BSDOD PA'ANG YUL LAS CHUNG BA YIN.

That's why we put monks in monasteries. He's so funny. He's talking to monks.

That's why we put you in the monastery. It means there's no girls there. He used the word RAB CHUNG, which means who promised not to have sex.

That's why we put you guys in the monastery. Stay away from the lady. And even you want to break it, you cannot because there's no lady around.

Okay, RANG ... so you can do the same thing with your husband. There's some days you shouldn't meet your husband.

Because he's in a bad mood or you're in a bad mood, there's going to be a fight. So, if you can remember the pen, God bless you. But probably you cannot.

So, don't go in the kitchen. Got it? Okay.

Because if you go in the kitchen and get mad, you will plant another small seed for anger next time. Even if you try to remember the pen. LO SBYOR RNAMS LAS NYAN PO BSTAN PA'I YUL NGAN POR BA RDZOGS This is, by the way, a word.

It's the ... I should offer you a hundred dollars, but I don't trust you. This is the comparative use of the instrumental.

Okay? Which means, if you can't use the antidote, use avoidance. If you're not strong enough yet to use the antidote, then avoid the object.

If you're afraid you can't remember the pen in the kitchen, then avoid the kitchen. Okay. It's not a strong Buddhist method, but it's better than making bad seeds.

Okay. All right. RGYAL TSE THOG MED PAS YUL NGAN SPANGS PA'I NYON MONGS RIM GYI GRIB RNAM YIN MED PA'I SKYE MCHOG SNGON GYI PHAL RIG PA THANGS PA'I CHOS LA NGES SHES BSKYED NGAN PA BRTAN PA RGYAL TSE LAG LAS YIN This is a famous author called the Bodhisattva.

Okay? And his name is THOG MED, but it's not a Sangha. YUL NGAN SPANGS PA'I NYON MONGS RIM GYI GRIB If you avoid the husband, then slowly you'll get over your habit of anger.

RNAM YIN MED PA'I SKYE MCHOG SNGON GYI PHAL If you don't get distracted by anger, then your good karma is going to increase. If you avoid the Krispy Kreme donut shop by walking down another part of the mall, you will get the opposite effect of eating the Krispy Kreme. You will get some exercise.

[Speaker 2]
Okay?

[Speaker 1]
So, just avoiding the husband is like good karma. Okay? RIG PA THANGS PA'I CHOS LA NGES SHES BSKYED Keep your mind clear, and your understanding of the pen will increase because you avoided a fight.

You used a lower method to avoid a fight, and that will make your mind more clear, and next time you will remember the pen. Okay? Understand?

So, if you avoid the kitchen, maybe next time you'll be strong enough to go into the kitchen and use the pen. MBA'I RTEN PA RGYAL ZAD LA NGES YIN Then he makes a joke. MBA'I means ...

this is a little bit MBA'I here. MBA'I here, it means empty place in the countryside, like Diamond Mountain. That's called MBA.

Empty place, no city. It's two hours to go to the grocery store. Okay, so that's called MBA.

Then he said, remember, it's a bodhisattva practice to go out to the empty place in the country. It's a metaphor. Yeah, getting away from the husband.

Go on retreat to your bathroom. Don't go to the kitchen. Okay, so he's making a joke.

Don't forget. Bodhisattvas like to go on retreat. But it's a joke.

It means don't go directly into the kitchen, go to the toilet. Avoid where is the husband. Take a retreat in the toilet.

Okay, understand? It's a joke.

[Speaker 2]
It's a bodhisattva joke.

[Speaker 1]
Okay. SEMS PA LTAR NYON MONGS KYI BA'I YOD SPANG STE THU YUL LA GNAS PA GAL CHES GSUNGS By the way, we have about five more minutes, so just tell your butt to relax. NYON MONGS KYI BA'I YOD SPANG STE THU YUL LA GNAS PA GAL CHES GSUNGS It's very helpful, said our Lama, to go to hang out in places that are more calm.

You know, if you know your husband's upset, then, you know, go to Sephora for an hour. Okay? Hang out in a quiet place.

And then come home. Maybe he will calm down. Maybe he'll get more upset that you went to Sephora and spent a hundred dollars.

Okay, okay. Okay. Okay, now number three of the temporary methods, okay?

Ultimate method is the pen. Temporary method, so far we had tried to hold off the negative action for a few minutes at least. Or just avoid your husband when you know he's upset.

If you're a Pekar Bodhisattva, which is the subject of Seiji's book, did you teach about it? Yeah. Those Pekar Bodhisattvas, when they hear the husband is upset in the kitchen, they go home early from work to spend more time in the kitchen with the angry husband.

It's like weight lifting. Okay? It makes the Bodhisattva muscles stronger.

So, if you have a big capacity, you should try to be around irritating people as much as possible. You should go to the place where there's ten Krispy Kremes in the same airport, and walk up and down, just to build up your muscles. Okay?

That's his book, he's called Pekar Bodhisattva. Why Pekar? Hundred dollars?

Oh, she's definitely on. Okay, why Pekar? You got a hundred dollars, Shelby?

Okay. What? So, she said, because they have beautiful colors in their plumage, and they transform the ...

The metaphor is, they take the poison and transform it into these nice colors. And that's why they use the Pekar image. Yeah, there's a story in Asia, that peacock's color comes from ...

they like to eat poison. Like ... I think you have in Guadalajara a flower called Datura.

White flower. It's poison. It gives you hallucinogenic?

Don't eat it, it will kill you. But it's a poison. Okay, so, peacocks, according to tradition, I don't know if it's true, probably it's not, so don't kill your peacock.

They say they like to eat poison. And each poison gives a different color to their feathers. So, they get more beautiful.

So, if you're a very strong bodhisattva, and you have Krispy Kreme donut addiction, then, you know, ask Siri. Hey Siri, Hey Siri, where's the nearest Krispy Kreme? Fifteen miles.

She's offering me directions. So, if you really want to be advanced bodhisattva, ask Siri where's the Krispy Kreme? And then go there and have a coffee.

Okay? Understand? That's a ...

But we are not peacock bodhisattvas. So, ask Siri where's the Krispy Kreme? And drive the other way.

Okay? Okay? Alright, let's do a mandala.

Seiji, you want to lead the mandala? Okay.

[Speaker 2]
Sashi Pu Gyi Gyi Gyi Gyi Gyi Gyi Gyi Gyi Gyi Gyi Gyi Gyi Gyi Gyi Gyi Sarnam yeshe tso tso shi Sarnam yeshe ne chun me Dhamma kuni to pa shok Thank you.
