[Speaker 1] Close your eyes, cierra los ojos, relax your hands, relaja manos, relax your face, relaja la cara, relax your ears, relaja las orejas, los oídos, relax how you listen, relaja como escuchas, relax your lips, mouth, the backside of your mouth, chin, relaja los labios, boca, quijada, barbilla, put your belly a little bit up and back, straighten your back, mete el ombligo un poco, estira tu espalda, put your shoulders up and back and down so they're just above the hips, pon los hombros arriba, giros un poquito, bajalos para que estén justo arriba de la cadera, feel the balance, do a small rocking to the front and to the back until you find the sweet spot where you're almost floating, mésete un poquito hacia adelante y hacia atrás para que encuentres ese punto, punto de suspenso donde estas en perfecto balancing, also to the sides a little bit, rock to the sides and find the sweet spot in the center, relax your head, your face, now during the whole meditation there's two ideas that you're going to keep on every step, every meditation platform the more committed you are, the more free you are, mientras mas comprometido estas, mas libertad tienes, so your breathing right now is free and committed, tu respiración ahora es libre y comprometida, watch your exhale and your inhale, what we're going to do, as you exhale imagine the sound of the wave coming out to the shore, as you inhale the wave goes inside the ocean, try to push the exhale and the inhale, take a few seconds to feel the energy and presence of all the lineage teachers that we just called upon when we did the prayer, tomate un tiempo para sentir la presencia de todos los maestros del linaje que invocamos con el rezo tibetano de la ofrenda de mandala, feel the string of teachings of committed people that gave their life and practice so you can have this meditation right now, siente la cadena de linaje interrumpido de maestros que se han dedicado toda su vida a aprender esta meditación para podértela pasar a ti el día de hoy, you're going to start listening, vas a comenzar a escuchar outside sounds, choose one sound that you're going to focus on, on the details of it, escoge un sonido en el cual te vas a concentrar en sus detalles, maybe a bird, maybe those cars on the road down there, maybe some people's breathing, quizás un pájaro, los autos allá afuera, la respiración de alguien, maybe the crickets, ser los grillos, choose one that you can go into the subtleties of sound, escoge uno para que puedas enfocarte en sus sutilezas sonoras, go deep into the subtlety of one specific sound, entra profundamente en la sutileza de un sonido específico, last year Geshe-la said on a Jimi Hendrix song, focus on the bassline, el año pasado Geshe-la enseñó, enfocas en el bajo de una canción de Jimi Hendrix, this year we have different sounds, este año tenemos sonidos distintos, now you're going to go to a quiet place, quieter, more quiet, more silent, vamos a entrar en un lugar más callado, más silencioso, so in the sense that it's more quiet, it becomes a higher level, en el sentido de que es un lugar más callado, se convierte en una plataforma superior al anterior, so but we need to, in order to be higher or deeper, we need to compare, so start feeling your heartbeat as you keep listening to the sound, empieza a sentir el latido de tu corazón mientras escuchas los sonidos, compare, compare and see what is more silent and decide that the heart is more silent and focus on the heartbeat, watching it from above, compara y decide donde está más callado, decide que el corazón, el latido de tu corazón está más callado y más silencio allí y te vas allí y te enfocas en el latido y abandonas el sonido externo, now here even though I'm feeling the heartbeat, I can still hear sounds, so sometimes what I do is just I include them as one of the sounds of my heartbeat and integrate them with the orchestra of my heartbeat, yo lo que hago para, aunque esté en el corazón sigo escuchando sonidos externos, lo que hago a veces es integrar los sonidos como si fueran parte de la orquesta del latido del corazón, stay at the heartbeat, we are outside the heart, just first level of the world of beauty, estamos afuera del corazón, primer nivel del reino de la belleza, we are going to go to a deeper, quieter, more silent space, vamos a entrar a un lugar más profundo, más silencioso, in order to be more than, if you say the word more, you have to compare, si dices la palabra más, tienes que comparar, so we have to compare the being outside the heart with being inside, try to feel both situations and decide that you are going to go to a deeper, more quiet place, tenemos que comparar, comparar el latido de tu corazón desde afuera y el latido de tu corazón desde adentro, now go inside the heartbeat, dentro adentro del latido del corazón, stay there, you are in a small room, perfectly lit, sober, elegant, sunlight inside your heartbeat, estás en una pequeña habitación elegante, sencilla, bien iluminada, dentro del latido del corazón, we are going to go deeper, higher, on a more quiet spot, vamos a entrar a un lugar más profundo, más callado, más elevado, like the hot spring that's under the Olmec head here in Montecoxtala, there's a big room where Santiago did the singing, it's a nice room with hot spring, you're going to be inside there and your heartbeat are going to be the walls, it's a big relaxing room, te vas a meter dentro de las aguas termales de la cabeza Olmeca, una gran habitación de aguas termales, las paredes, la tienda, the walls are the heartbeat, so it's a more quiet space, if you go out, you lose, you get distracted, you can come back again, one by one or really fast jump to this huge heartbeat hot spring room in Chalapa with the walls beating, si te distraes puedes subir de plataforma uno por uno o entrar directo en las aguas termales, the feeling of your body is perfectly aligned, tu cuerpo está en perfecta alineación, the walls keep expanding, the walls of your heartbeat, las paredes del latido de tu corazón se expanden, expand them until you lose them, expandelas hasta que las pierdas, once you lose them, at that moment you become a diamond, small tiny diamond like a grain of sugar, conforme las expandes cuando termines de expandir las paredes del latido del corazón te conviertes en un diamante pequeñito tan diminuto como un grano de azúcar, billions and billions of buddhas can fit inside this tiny diamond, billones de buddhas son capaces de caber en este diminuto diamante, you are inside the diamond but you feel completely free, more quiet than the previous stage, estas dentro del diamante y te sientes completamente libre mas callado que el nivel anterior, inside this diamond try to feel your love for others, you want them to be happy, try to feel your compassion for others, you want them not to suffer, dentro de este diamante siente tu amor por los demás, quieres que sean felices y tu compasión, quieres que no sufran, this love and compassion burst forth and breaks open to all the corners of the universe and we enter into the next meditation platform, infinite love and compassion expanding throughout the universe, as it expands it touches the beings and worlds where people are doing this meditation, mixing your mind with their mind, tu amor y tu compasión se expanden por todo el universo, siguiente plataforma meditativa, primer nivel del reino sin forma, mientras expande tu amor y compasión se mezcla con la mente de gente que está haciendo esta meditación en este momento, en otros reinos y mundos, you keep the feeling of expansion to the corners of the universe and feel the quietness, mantener sentimiento expansivo por los confines del universo sintiendo que estas en un lugar mas silencioso, the physical feeling of perfect posture starts becoming more neutral, la sensación fisica de buena alineación meditativa se empieza a hacer mas neutral, as you expand there is so much as you can imagine as a physical universe, mientras te vas expandiendo tienes el limite de lo que te puedes imaginar como un universo fisico, so the physical universe has become an obstacle, we're gonna drop it and we're just gonna go into infinite awareness of light expansive light, without the physical support of a physical universe, because our mind is beyond atoms, como ya no necesitamos, ya es un obstaculo el universo fisico, nuestra mente esta mas alla de los atomos, abandonamos el soporte del universo fisico y dejamos una conciencia infinita expansiva, this infinite awareness of light is like you turn the lights on and you illuminate everything, this part is very useful that you think about absences, one specific one empty space, it's a negative phenomena, it's the lack of obstruction, the empty space where you are is there where whether you're there or you're not there, so you focus on the empty space and your infinite awareness expanding, vas a pensar en el espacio vacio, la ausencia de obstruccion, el lugar que un objeto fisico ocupa esta alli independientemente si el objeto esta en el lugar o no esta, if this earth disappears the empty space where it is will still be there, si esta tierra desaparece el lugar vacio donde esta seguira estando alli en el espacio vacio, so infinite awareness is beyond physicality, la conciencia infinita esta mas alla de lo fisico, now we're gonna go, you're gonna turn the light a little bit off, and also your feelings about this, and you're gonna start focusing on distracting thoughts, feelings, maybe there's things that come to your mind like birds, or mosquitoes, things that bother you, resistances, so you, you're a hunter, you attack these distractions, hay resistencias, hay pensamientos, tensiones, emociones distractoras, vas a intentar acecharlas, y eliminarlas, every single distracting thing you eliminate, cualquier cosa distractora la eliminas, your feelings and your emotions are neutral, you're just fighting distractions, you're in a quieter place though, but even fighting is useless, takes a lot of energy, pelear es inutil, toma mucha energia, abandon the fight, and with any resistance and distraction, just welcome them like you welcome the birds in the sky, but with indifference, they're just there, but you're in perfect meditation, because you know what's coming ahead, hay resistencias y obstaculos, les vas a dar la bienvenida, como se las das a los pájaros, con indiferencia porque estas en perfecta meditación, your feelings and emotions are neutral, call upon your holy lama, your teacher, llama a tu sagrado lama, a tu maestro, call upon that being who has the highest kindness with you in this life, llama a ese ser que ha tenido la mayor bondad contigo en esta vida, feel their presence in front of you, sitting in meditation, knees to knees, invoca a tu maestro, siente su bondad, su presencia frente a ti, rodilla a rodilla, think about their good qualities, qualities worthy for you to call her or him a teacher, piensa en sus buenas cualidades, cualidades dignas, para que tu consideres a esa persona como maestra o maestro, as you think of these qualities, the face and body of your teacher become more strong, more bright, mientras piensas en estas cualidades, el cuerpo y cara de tu maestro se hacen más fuerte, más brillante, I think a specific quality, that you are going to examine, piensa en una cualidad especifica que vas a examinar, maybe it's their ability to serve many beings, maybe it's their patience, maybe it's their joyful effort, quizás sea su habilidad para servir mucha gente, quizás su paciencia, quizás su esfuerzo gozoso, just choose one quality, and we're going to use our imagination to go into past life, and see how we planted that quality that we see in our teacher, vamos a usar nuestra imaginación para ir a una vida pasada, para ver como sembramos esa cualidad que percibimos en nuestro maestro, imagine with detail who you were, what was your profession, what country were you living, how were your family members, as much details as you can make, with your imagination, cinematography of your mind, piensa con claridad donde estabas, quien eras, que profesion, que oficio tenias, que tipo de familia vivias, como era el lugar, el espacio fisico, con detalles cinematográficos, and think about the specific things you did for many times, or for one time, that created these beautiful qualities that you see in your teacher today, y piensa las cosas especificas y acciones especificas, semillas karmicas especificas que sembraste, para percibir las cualidades de tu maestro hoy, y pudieron ser unas constantes acciones o una sola, be free and committed with your story, with your imagination, because it's also coming from seeds, libre y comprometete con tu historia, porque también vienen semillas, don't think there is a perfect self-existent way of making a story, so release yourself from that burden of having to make the perfect story, no creas que hay una perfecta manera de hacer una historia de vidas pasadas, que es auto-existente, libérate de esa atadura de la auto-existencia de una posible historia, and like you did your coffee meditation everyday, como haces tu meditación del café todos los días, do a small coffee meditation of your previous lifetime, when you planted a seed for having the good qualities of your teacher today, rejoice on the good deed you did in the past, vas a alegrarte de la buena semilla que sembraste en la vida pasada, para crear la cualidad de tu maestro ahora, with this energy you come back to the teacher, but you leave the teacher that is not coming from you on one side, and then you put the teacher that is coming from the seeds that you created, on the kindness you gave to others in this life or previous lifetime, on the other side, and make this other teacher brighter, vas a dejar el maestro que no viene de ti en un lado, y en el otro vas a poner el maestro que vino de semillas karmicas de vidas pasadas, o de esta vida y lo vas a poner a un lado, so compare the feeling you have towards, the teacher that is coming from seeds, and the feeling of the nice teacher, that is coming from himself or herself, and decide and choose, choose the only one that exists and the only one that would help you, compare the feeling, and sit in front of them, compare the feeling, between the teacher that came from your kindness to others, and the teacher that comes from himself, that his qualities seem to be intrinsic, compare the feeling, abandon the nonexistent teacher that does not come from seeds, and stay with the real one that comes from seeds, eliminate all self-existence to a teacher, eliminate all parts of teachers who don't come from your kindness, stay with the real teacher coming from your kindness to others, just stay here, feel the blessing, feel the blessing, now we are going to go back, the teacher disappears, we are going to return, the teacher disappears, we are going to come down, our mind, shut off, our feelings shut off, if we are not fighting distractions, we start to fight distractions, the mind, we start to fight distractions with the vigilant mind, we start to turn on the lights of awareness, physical space, physical universe, just infinite awareness, an empty space, we are beyond galaxies, beyond universes, infinite awareness, we are beyond galaxies, as we keep expanding, the universes and Milky Ways, and all those planets and galaxies appear, but we still are expanding, mientras seguimos expandiendo no empiezan a aparecer galaxias y planetas, our minds are mixed right now with the minds of beings, in those galaxies and realms that are meditating on this, nuestras mentes estan mezcladas con las mentes de los seres, estas galaxias y reinos, we abandon this and we start coming back to a center, abandonamos esto y empezamos a regresar al centro, we are going to go inside the diamond, we go inside the diamond, bring back our mind, the expansion, into a very tiny little diamond, where you feel completely free, from far away you can hear, the heartbeat of the walls, of the hot spring, in monte coxal en chalapa, from far away you can feel the walls, of the hot springs of monte coxal en chalapa, of this room, we are in a huge chamber, with beating walls, they start coming, until it becomes a small meditation room, they start to contract the beating walls, and they become a small meditation room, now we go and we just look our heart from above, we leave the heart and we observe it from above, we stay here, without opening your eyes, you're going to do three long breaths, we're going to take a break, slowly open your eyes and stretch, okay let's start again, we're going to do the, third and fourth parts of the lion's stance, how do you say way? Via? The only thing, you know you've had all of it, except I want to add one more thing okay? We do those three long exhales at the end right? Now when we reach the end, you can try to visualize during those three exhales, like a super tonglen, you are using your breath to, give away all the good seeds you made during the meditation, then you have to imagine that, from your breath, is coming seeds for people all over the world to start to meditate, is similar to the fire tonight right? That's what we call a peaceful fire offering, and that custom is about 5,000 years old, it's older than Buddhism, and my teacher was a great, he really enjoyed fire offerings, and he learned it very well from the Dalai Lama's teacher, Trijang Rinpoche. Then I tried really hard to learn it from him, he did it so many times that I spied on him, and I learned it very well, and I'm really hoping that you guys can learn it okay? How to do it. So tonight I'd like to do the fire offering in three parts. I'll do the first part in Tibetan, and then I'm going to ask Alejandro to do the second part in, is the English okay? We don't have Spanish yet. And then Lama John can do the last part in English okay? And you can enjoy it. It's similar to the three breaths at the end of the meditation. The idea is that the smoke from the fire will spread throughout the whole world. Eventually, the pollution from chalapa will reach the whole world you know? I like to imagine that some of it will reach the upper atmosphere and it will go to other planets also. I believe so, yeah. Then just come and enjoy the fire okay? I like to just sit there and watch it, I think it's very meditative to watch fire. And you can do prayers for the people that the smoke touches okay? It's also a purification fire. So today, if you have some time, you can write down all your famous bad deeds that only you know about. On little pieces of paper. Then at the end of the fire, we'll burn them okay? You had something right? Who was that? You wanted to say something like that. Oh, can you do it? You want me to do it? Okay, so you know Don Jesus, the shaman here, he opens a fire and after he tells me his dreams, and his dreams become teachings. So he dreamt that six serpent-like beings came from different areas of the world, representing all the different cultures that are coming here gathering for the teaching. He said that we should make an offering to the land, and the offering should be whatever it is you offer in your country. So he suggested, and we also need to offer the teachings, and they're going to be buried. He's going to bury them under the earth, and then the earth is going to get the teachings. We need somebody who offers their class notes. They can be Xerox class notes, and then coins, and flowers, and whatever it is you offer to the land and locals. And he says that we need to make an offering to the land, offering notes of the class so that the teachings are integrated with the land, so that we give to the land the teachings that we are receiving, and the land receives the teachings. They can be photocopies, also coins, also whatever it is you offer in your country, and flowers, or whatever it is you offer to your country. And if you can get it today, Ayrton, where are you? Can you get up? And he'll be, after the class, collecting all your offerings, and during the whole day, can you please give him coins from your country, or flowers, and class notes, or a copy of class notes. Don Jesus will present the offerings for us today, and it needs to be done today. So please, after the class, see Ayrton. After the class, see Ayrton. Apache has a comment. Ah, your sixth time a day book, too. Also a comment. It can be a good offering. Jigme? You know, it was hard to negotiate a photocopy. I think a flash drive is too much. So, who can do a photocopy of their class notes? Anybody else? Who can give an original? No, no, no, don't. Well, if you keep a photocopy, you can give the original. [Speaker 2] That's okay. [Speaker 1] Okay, okay. Yeah, your notes are pretty good, I think. Probably somebody from Hong Kong or Taiwan, their notes are really good. Okay, so make a copy and give the original, okay? He wants the earth to have the teaching, and then everybody who walks on the earth, they will absorb some in their feet, and then coins from your country. They last a long time. Better than bills, right? Word? They last longer. Okay, you guys ready to meditate? Turn off your phone. Coins and notes you can give to Ayrton, okay? Also tonight, if you get tired halfway through the fire offering, just go home and sleep. It's okay. Just come as long as you want and enjoy. It's not required. And then each of you will have a chance to do the offerings to the fire, which is a really good karma. I saw a fire in ... I watched a fire in Varanasi, and it's the old Hindu fire offering. They dig a hole and they offer it to a hole. And I was amazed that it's the same. That one comes from the Vedas. It's 5,000 years old. Okay, here we go. So, sit up straight. Then like Alejandro said, it's very nice to move your upper body forward and backwards and left and right and find the center. We hired a construction crew to make sawing noises. Yeah, so just focus on that or any other noises you like. Now, please come to the sound of your heartbeat. See if you can fight the saw noise. Relax, have fun, and focus on your heartbeat. Now, come inside your heart. Small, elegant apartment, full of sunlight. Don't forget this trick of when you come to the end of your exhale, push a little bit more up. It'll make you more relaxed, and you won't feel tight. The walls of the heart are beating around you. And now, the saw noise and the bird noise are far away. You can't really hear them anymore. If a noise calls you to the outside world, just gently, happily, in a relaxed way, come back. Now, expand the apartment. Now, it's a penthouse apartment with even more light, even more sunlight. And you are sitting in an inside room. The walls are still beating. The walls of your heart are still beating, but they feel far away, and the sound is faint. You're in the middle of the middle. Just relax and have fun. On the table next to you is a small pot of sugar. Take off the top, and put your finger inside. And when you lift it up to your face, you can see some tiny grains of sugar on the tip of your finger. And decide you would like to go inside the grain of sugar. And you shrink smaller, smaller, smaller, smaller, smaller. Then you're inside the grain of sugar. But it's spacious inside, comfortable, very nice for meditation. Lots of sunlight. And super quiet. No more heartbeat noise. You are at the center of the center of the center. Now, inside the sugar crystal, your mind becomes the Pacific Ocean. Beautiful blue. The surface of the ocean is very, very smooth and quiet. And it stretches for thousands and thousands of miles. And it's very deep. Now we expand upwards and we include the whole beautiful light blue sky. This is also my mind. The sky and the sea are my mind. Across the sky, sometimes there's a seabird flying, making a little bit of noise. These are my small thoughts, small feelings, small memories. And I try to, Alhundra said, I try to hunt them and bring them down, stop them, make my mind quiet, make the sky quiet. In the sky, sometimes there are thoughts or distracting feelings that you are going to visualize as birds, birds of the ocean, like seagulls, pelicans or any other bird that lives in the ocean. As I said, you're going to try to eliminate those obstacles, hunt them, use those distracting thoughts that fly through your mind, through the sky and the ocean. It would be more quiet if I just stayed in the sky and in the sea and I let those birds fly the way they want and I don't try to fight with them, just let random thoughts and images, impressions come through my mind and don't listen to them. It would be much quieter and easier if I let those birds fly, those thoughts, feelings, and I stop and I stop fighting. Now please bring one of your favorite teachers to mind. They are sitting with you. You're both very quiet and relaxed and you're having a nice day and you're sitting somewhere in Monte Coxala on the beautiful grass and it's quiet. And you think about something you really like about them, something about them that you really admire and appreciate. Piensa en algo que te gusta mucho y admiras de tu maestro o maestra. Try to understand what it means. This quality is not inside them, this quality is coming from me and it is part of them, but it's coming from me, but it's not inside them. Then take a short trip to a past life, maybe in another country, maybe in another time, even another world. Maybe you're even some beautiful kind of bird or fish and you collected the seeds to see this lama. Then please come back to your teacher. Enjoy that quality. And now we have a stronger understanding that it's coming from us. Now let's take an elevator shaft and drop down to the heartbeat again. Ahora vamos a subirnos al ascensor y vamos a hacer una caída al latido del corazón. You are in your body here under the tent. You are watching your heartbeat. Normally when you reach the fourth part of the meditation we should be moving faster because your mind and your body are tired. Watch the heartbeat, maybe five breaths. Come back to the teacher. Try to remember where this quality came from. From the past life story we just did. Then come back to the center of the heart. Sunlit, small, elegant place. The heart's beating around me. Come back to the teacher. Oh, this beautiful quality I see is not inside of them. It's part of them, but it's not inside of them. Go to the center of the center of the heart. The walls are beating far away, lots of sunlight. Remember to push out the last of your exhale. Recuerda forzar un poco la exhalación. Come back to your teacher. Try to remember how you used to think of them before you understood where this quality was coming from. Try to remember that wrong feeling about where this quality is coming from. Come back to the sugar crystal. Come back to the teacher. Try to think about if this quality is coming from my seeds, then if I could make more seeds on purpose now, then I would start to see this same quality among my friends and my family. And in a way, they would also become my teachers. Because the teacher's quality is coming from me, I have the power to create a world where I am surrounded by beautiful, angelic people. I have the power to create a beautiful and beautiful world full of angelic beings. My mind becomes the Pacific Ocean inside of the sugar crystal. I imagine that I have planted seeds for the people around me right now will have this same quality as my teacher. Now my mind is the Pacific Ocean and all the blue sky above it, very high. Now many people around me have this beautiful quality of my teacher. I identify and I stop small thoughts going through the sky of my mind right now. It's even more quiet. Now even strangers in the city where I live are starting to show this beautiful quality that my teacher has. Now whatever noises my mind makes, I just ignore it. I come to my teacher. I ask them, sort of pleasantly, would you like to come and stay in my heart today? They're like, cool. They rise up. They get smaller. They come down on the top of your head. They shrink to the size of your thumb. And they slide down to your heart. And they're in a very comfortable sunlit meditation room on a very comfortable cushion. In your heart. So we made a lot of good seeds, karma seeds, by doing this meditation. I would like to share them with the whole world. Three deep exhales. Your breath is like the blessed smoke of the fire offering. Touching people all over the world. Three deep breaths. And slowly open your eyes. Take a good stretch. Just stretch. Drink something. Drink something. You guys got a microphone ready? Does anybody have any questions about the meditation? Ayrton has one. When you're ready Nick. Okay, I'm going to have Ayrton ask it loudly, and human microphone. Maybe you can repeat it. Thank you for sharing this meditation. For me it was very clear, the second part. And the first part was more difficult. The specific question is when I visualize my past life. In this time and in other times that I've done this meditation. [Speaker 2] When I use my imagination to see myself in another past life. [Speaker 1] In this time I decided to see myself as a person in the ancient India. But the seed that was stronger is that I saw myself as a different kind of being. At the beginning I tried to force my mind and make it see the version of being that I wanted to see. But constantly I became this other type of being. My question is, what is the best? Maintaining and sustaining the perspective that I want. Or in this case, giving up in front of this mental image. Of this other image to appear. Thank you. Yeah, okay, cool question. What I would do, so we're not going on a trip to find the bad seeds we planted. We're going on a trip to find good seeds. Of course we planted many bad seeds also. So I would say as long as the new being who comes in your mind is good, and they're doing nice things, follow it. Follow it like, I don't know, like an ocean wave. Just where the wave takes you on a surfboard, you don't say, no, I want to go the other way. So flow with the images that come in your mind. If a bad image comes in your mind, like some dark spirit, like a puddle of dark, I like to trick my mind. I will say, oh, this dark puddle looks a lot like a really good Starbucks cappuccino. This dark evil spirit. Then I'll change it to something beautiful. You see what I mean? Yeah, so, again, we know most of us cannot see directly our past lives, but we are using 50% logic, which is the meaning of the third eye in Buddhism. Okay, watch. Ready? What do I have in my hand? Bottle of water. What do I have in my hand? Yeah, you didn't hear it drop. So, right now, you are seeing a bottle of water with your third eye. So, 50% in this meditation, you are observing your past life with your third eye. It's impossible for me to see this beauty in my teacher or any other person, unless I was doing something beautiful before. So, 50% during this past life part, you are using your third eye. Logically, I must have done this beautiful thing. Then 50% is imagination. You're just watching your mind. Pictures are always coming up, small impressions are always coming up in your mind, right? Then just grab one of them and follow it to your past life. So, those are two ways, two parts of the perception of your past life in this meditation. 50% is logic. You can see the footprint in the mud and you can guess what the animal looked like. Then 50% is imagination. Okay? Now, later, if you do this meditation every day, you will start to have NEL SBYOR RNGON GSUM. Today's answers are free word. I'm out of gasoline. NEL SBYOR RNGON GSUM or ... they're called direct yogic perceptions. And what it means is you will start to have like 30 second perceptions, direct perceptions of your real past life. So, during the meditation, you ride logic for a few minutes. Then you ride some imagination. Then if you do this meditation every day, suddenly you'll have a 30 second or one minute NEL SBYOR RNGON GSUM, direct yogic perception. And that's a direct perception of your past life. Oh, there goes an elephant. I'm in ancient India. A lot of us were in ancient India or ancient China, okay? That's just because we're studying Buddhism. Wow! Real past life. Elephant. I'm a monk. A thousand years ago, there goes my lama on top of the elephant. Then I had some emotion about it, you know. Then suddenly, it just happened. It just stops, okay? Then you're like, no, no, come back, come back. And you can't, okay? It won't. Then just slide back to imagination. Oh, I guess they went on the elephant to their palace. Then when you come back to the present, ride on your logic again. You see what I mean? And then NEL SBYOR RNGON GSUM, the direct perception of your past life part will start to get longer and longer. And it's really, really you know, I don't know, fun? Or more than that? Cool. Super cool. Super cheeto. Okay, any other question? Microphone is sleeping. No, we're going to try another microphone. Here we come. [Speaker 2] My question is, what seed to sow exactly when I started to sleep and I started to leave? I had done well all the meditations of these days, but just this second part, I only heard your voice as a sound and I relaxed. And as much as I breathed deeply, I relaxed more and I left. So what seed to sow to have and be? [Speaker 1] I started to feel asleep during this meditation. I wanted to know what seed to plant. I listened to your voice. Normally I could do all the meditations and focus on what you were guiding us on to, but this time I heard your voice and just started to relax and fall asleep. What kind of seed do I need to plant not to fall asleep during meditations? Okay, first suggestion. You know, I told my teacher, I'm falling asleep during meditations, especially emptiness meditations. Then he looked at me and he said, sleep more at night. Then I said, Lama, is there a way I don't have to sleep? I'm wasting so many hours sleeping. Then my Lama was very direct, and he got in this car accident, so his voice is like Star Wars. What's the question? What's the question? Oh Lama, can I not sleep at night? Can I work all day, all night? Is there some special mantra or something? No. Then I'm like, hey look at me, I said no. That's it. Okay. No need translation. Okay. So that's the first thing. Get enough sleep at night. Your meditation will improve. Secondly, don't eat in the morning. Okay. I have water, watermelon juice, cappuccino, and green poison. And I like to eat, so I distract myself. I say, oh, have a watermelon juice. Then after five minutes, I'm like, yeah, but now I want something to eat. Oh, have a cappuccino. And then suddenly it's like two o'clock in the afternoon, and I didn't eat yet. So your mind's a lot clearer if you're not eating within a few hours of meditating. And it's easier not to get sleepy. In the end, sleepiness is coming from my seeds also, like my lama's good qualities. And I honestly think it's because you are making other people's lives sleepy. And I honestly think it's because you are not having fun. So when you're around other people, you are too serious, you're not having fun, you're thinking about your problems. So, the seed you're collecting is a sleepy seed. Because when you're around other people, you're a little bit heavy, it's a little bit heavy to be around you, it's not very fun to be around you, you're always thinking about yourself, you're always thinking about your problems. And then your friends are like, you're telling your friends your problems, and they're like, yeah, yeah, okay. Well, because you're heavy, it feels heavy to be around you, and your friends feel heavy because you're only thinking about your problems, and you're not having fun, and it's uncomfortable to be around you, so you generate boredom, and that's the cause. So anytime you have a problem of any kind, you have to be a karma detective. I like those Sherlock Holmes movies. What's the guy's name? Iron Man? Is it Iron Man? Hugh Jackman? Robert Downey Jr. Is it? Same guy? But who's Sherlock Holmes? Yeah, also. Oh, never mind. Anyway, they have this thing where he sees the small clues like other people don't see, and then he can recreate the crime. Like Sherlock Holmes, who has the ability to see small clues everywhere and recreate the crime scene. In my ... so I never had a television my whole life, but my Lama really enjoyed ... what was that detective ... He's kind of ... No, before that. I'm talking my teacher's time. Columbo! So, he's this detective, you know, and my Lama had a bell. It's a, I want some tea bell, or come up here, you know, I need you for something. He had a bell. And I'm supposed to run up the stairs. I'm not supposed to walk up the stairs. Then you're supposed to knock on the door. He was a SHOG. SHOG means the word you use for a dog when you say, come, come. Then you're supposed to throw yourself into his room. You're supposed to get on your knees, and you're supposed to look at the floor. You're not supposed to look at him, and you're supposed to go, This is polite Tibetan. I don't know why. It's probably impolite everywhere else. You're supposed to do it. You're supposed to do it, not like Komo, Komo, you're supposed to do it. You got to practice, in case you meet a Tibetan Lama. So anyway, and then, so when he wants me, he will, something amazing will come on the television, you know, and he rings it super loud. It means run, run. I run out, and then he says, look at this Colombo, look at Colombo, you know. Look at Colombo, look at Colombo. Then Colombo, he's very cool, you know. So maybe, maybe Earl killed his wife, maybe it was Andreana, maybe it was Ward, maybe it was Chunzom, you know. Then here's Colombo's style, you know. He's like, hi Earl. What's up man? Then he's observing every tiny thing, you know. Oh, Andreana, you know, where are you going tomorrow? What are you doing today? Yes, is that where you were yesterday? You know, he will, very cool, he never accuses anybody. Then my, he always finds the murderer within 45 minutes at the end of the show. So you have to be like that karma detective, you know. Ah, I get sleepy in my meditation. Second, second law, first law of karma. First law of karma. The result resembles the cause, right? The cause resembles the result. Yeah, it must be making people sleepy, you know. Second law of karma. The result is always bigger than the cause. I must be making people sort of sleepy. And then you can guess, you know, what you're doing. If you don't feel like admitting you are boring to other people, you can say, it must have been 10,000 lives ago. You can think, oh, that was 10,000 lives ago. But the solution is the same. Whether it's last week or 10,000 lives ago, take more interest in other people when you're with other people. Don't be like Geshe Michael, who doesn't let his partner talk ever. Sometimes I let you talk. When I take a breath, you can talk a little bit. Make their life more fun. And your meditation, you won't be sleepy in your meditation. It's amazing. Okay, let's go to some depression. Nick, I have a request. For the afternoon, you have to have a folder ready of idims that we did not use in the examining yet. Okay? And all of you guys, you know, at lunchtime, talk about the idims, okay? That we had so far. Both the review idims from the beginning of the lam rim, and the new idims from these morning classes. If you don't remember what one of them is, well just ask somebody at lunch, okay? If you're a single guy looking for a cute girl, then pick a cute girl and go ask her, what's this idim? Geshe Michael told me to ask you. I'm not kidding. [Speaker 2] Thank you. [Speaker 1] But don't come to the afternoon class without all your idims ready. It's embarrassing, okay? And I put all of yesterday's names back in the bowl. Except words. I saved his name to burn in the fire offering. Okay. DEMAS SPR D-E-M-A-S-P-R D-E-M-A-S-P-R Okay. DE MA BRAS NA SDUG BSNGAL THAMS CAD GNAS DANG GROL SOGS KYI BYAS NAS CHUNG BA DANG So, we have a tendency to blame our situation on other people. korwa serwa dey pa tse taring shik na yupa gong yin yuk, then there's a tendency to think samsara must be far away. But you, you are samsara, okay? Samsara is not a place. People tell me, Geshe-la, I'm going to leave samsara, I'm going to go to Hawaii. But when you get on a plane and go to Hawaii, you're taking samsara with you, okay? You are importing samsara to Hawaii. Okay, so don't blame other people, don't blame other people or other places. You're not in samsara, you ARE samsara. You carry it with you everywhere you go. It's like a person who has indigestion and they always wonder why every place they go smells like farts. What is that? Everywhere I go there's a smell, you know? Somebody asked me, why are you always making fart jokes? Monks don't have sex jokes, so all they have is fart jokes, okay? Flatulence. IDIM Nick, Mr. IDIM. The last IDIM was, do I allow other people their space? Do I give other people space? When they need space, do I give them space? And this is the one of the guys, they're in Paris having a good time. They have two couples and they have maps and stuff, right? So, I'm going, me and V are going to Paris soon because we're supposed to marry one of our friends. Get them married? [Speaker 2] Do the marriage. [Speaker 1] And I'm a little bit nervous about it, because we are so much planning to have a good time, and I'm wondering if I can just leave the samsara in Arizona while I'm in Paris, you know? But these guys are also having samsara, okay? They brought it with them to Paris. The airline doesn't charge you extra weight or extra luggage, it comes with the package. So, the last IDIM was, do you allow other people their space when it looks like they need some space? The karmic solution for this problem, bringing samsara on your vacation, stop blaming the place. Stop blaming the people you're with. Try to make spaces sweet for other people, okay? Like, if you see some garbage, pick it up, throw it out, okay? If everybody goes to eat lunch and there's a mess here in the teaching room, then okay, spend two, three minutes, you know, clean it, make it tidy for other people. Make spaces nice for other people, okay? A big one here is to pick up your clothes in your room, okay? I have a box, I throw them in the box. Big box, you know? Then wash them once every six months or so. Okay, DE DER MA SONG BAR NGAR SHES PA'I DE NI'EL THAMS CAD KYI RTZA BA YANG KHOR BA'I KHYER YIN PA ZHES DGOS KHO BA DI LAS MA RDOG CING GANG DU SONG YANG, if you don't stop samsara, it doesn't matter where you go. You're going to have problems, okay? It's really sad to see a family go to all those places, and you know, if you're a Buddhist, you know they are carrying samsara with them, and they're going to get to Hawaii and have an argument as usual. It's so hard to have fun, have a good time, it's so hard to have a vacation. SDUG BSNGAL THAMS MED PA MYONG BA LAS MIN SBYUNG, you carry countless sufferings with you everywhere you go, because they're coming from you. Okay, we got half an hour. We finished the suffering of human beings. Congratulations. Hopefully the next part's a little more pleasant, but I think it's important to admit to yourself as you get older, as you get more mature, that you cannot blame other people, and you cannot blame places for your problems, okay? If you buy an apartment in a better neighborhood, if you divorce your old partner and get a new one, if you stop calling your old friends and try to find new friends, you will have exactly the same problems, because they're coming from you. You have to change the seeds, it doesn't help to change the outside things, okay? People always tell me, I'm unhappy with my wife, I want to get divorced. Then sometimes I feel like saying, okay, fix your seeds first. Make your wife perfect. Then get a divorce. But then they don't want to get a divorce. But if you give them permission to have a divorce, they feel better. But there's a rule about changing partners. Fix the old one first, then change partners. If you don't fix the old one first, that means you still have bad seeds, so the new one will start acting like the old one. So when your friends start asking your karma advice about their relationship, this is a very good trick, okay? Oh, I suggest you get the Karma of Love book by Geshe Michael. In the book, it says you must fix your seeds before you divorce. Then you can divorce. Then they will fix their seeds before they get divorced. Because they fixed their seeds, their partner will become super beautiful. Then they will forget about the divorce, okay? Now, you can also tell them, this is Geshe Michael's ... what do you call it ... longest book, okay? It's like 600 pages. Susana Noh, she tried to translate into French, right? We did it. It's published, by the way. [Speaker 2] I think we should give her a hand. [Speaker 1] Yeah, okay? Karma of Love. Why is it Geshe-la's longest book? There's a hundred suggestions how to fix your partner in here. If it doesn't work, it's a very good book for hitting your partner. Heavy, okay? That's why it's so long. All right, okay, we reached the suffering of ... we call them demi-gods, okay? Okay, now, interesting thing, all right? We talked about the first eight floors of the elevator before you get to your lama in the meditation. You are exercising your mental abilities, your concentration abilities, and your imagination abilities. And your abilities to make your mind quiet, okay? That's called le su rungwa. Le su rungwa. It means you are fit for the real practice, okay? You stretched all your muscles on the eight levels, okay? Now, in history of meditation for the last two and a half thousand years, there were many, many, many people who made a big mistake. They got off the elevator at the ... especially the seventh floor or the eighth floor. They didn't go to the ... or they stayed in the lobby, okay? Then they didn't get the American breakfast. The American breakfast is enlightenment, right? They are very similar things, okay? What does it mean to get off too early, get off the elevator too early? There are people who spend their whole life watching their breath. This is not meditation, okay? It's a preparation for meditation, you know? It's like going to the Olympics and stretching while the other people are running, okay? You don't get any medal if you ... you are still stretching and the race is over, you don't get any medal. So, all those first eight levels, just to warm up your mind, okay? The most famous mistake is you get off at the seventh floor. Oh, I will stop all my thoughts. I will be in the ocean and the blue sky and my mind will be still like I'm smoking marijuana or something, okay? By the way, when my mother was dying, she got fired from her work. She was a school teacher, fifth grade, and she had breast cancer, right? And it spread to her brain, and she started to have, what do you call it? Epileptic seizures, during the class. Then the school said, you have to leave now, you know? And I was studying in India, you know? So, I said, you know, what do you have to lose? Come and meet the high lamas. Come and meet them. Come and meet the Dalai ... the Dalai Lama's doctor was there. I was helping with him. So, she came, and it was really hard, because she was having these seizures maybe three times a day. First I took her to the Dalai Lama's doctor, you know? And he's like, you know, and he said, take her to the Geshe, okay? It means I can't do anything. It's too late. Tell him to teach her how to die, you know, how to go to the next life. So, she stayed. She studied for like three months, and the lamas trained her how to die. Then one of the lamas said, let her meet the Dalai Lama. She can get some blessing, you know? So, and he was a very influential lama, and he got us a private appointment. And, you know, we go in, I start to make prostrations, and he grabs me, he says, sit down! It means it's not comfortable for your mom. Then my mom's like, I have a gift for you, you know? He's like, oh, what's it? You know, okay. Then she reached in her purse, and she pulls out a crucifix. Then I'm like ... Then he's like, wow, cool! Thank you so much! [Speaker 2] This is so great! [Speaker 1] Then I'm like, oh, whew! Then he looks at me, you know, and he says ... first thing he says, you know, did you ever take drugs? Then I have a ... what do you call it? Moral dilemma. Do I lie to the Dalai Lama, or I piss off my mother? Then I'm like, yeah, I took a little bit, you know? Then I can ... I'm not even looking at my mom, but I can feel her. Then he's like, what's it like? What's it like, Lama? I heard it was like meditation. There's a rumor at that time that he took 20 hits of LSD at the same time, to see what would happen. Then everybody asked him, yeah, what happened? He said, nothing. Then, you know, then I explained a little bit about ... what's that stuff? Mescaline, yeah. That's as far as I went. Then he said, yeah, good, good, yeah, that's all cool. He says, now you can stop, okay? Do meditation. You can go to the same place and higher, and much cheaper. Then I'm like, okay, okay, okay. I didn't take it since then, you know? Why am I talking about that? If you get off too early on the elevator, or if you spend your whole life just watching your breath, especially if you spend your whole life trying to stop your mind, by the way, which is impossible, it's like taking drugs. It doesn't help, okay? You don't go anywhere. Some of my people I know, they're taking ayahuasca. I went to visit Flagstaff, right? I was in the bookstore. There was a terrible snowstorm. All the highways were closed. Then there was a man and his wife sitting in Barnes and Nobles, you know, trying to spend the whole day, you know? Then I could tell they were unhappy, you know? Then I bought them a coffee, you know? Then they said, wow, you're so nice. We need a place to stay. I got them a place to stay. Then they look at me, they say, hey man, we have a whole car full of ayahuasca, you know? And we're gonna give you some, you know? And in my mind, I made a mistake. I thought it's jicama. Then I said, yeah, I love ayahuasca sandwiches, you know? And in tacos, ayahuasca tacos. They're looking at me like ... No, you don't make tacos from ayahuasca. And then I'm like, oh, okay, I'm sorry. Jicama tacos are really good, if you're vegetarian. The head of our group in Ireland, his daughter, who is very, very beautiful, very shining, happy like Pao, you know? And she went to a ayahuasca ceremony, and she videoed herself. There's a shaman, and you can see the shaman, he's giving her the ayahuasca, and then you can see her, she's like, then she died. Her breath stopped. She's younger than Pao, okay? And you can see the whole thing on her phone, you know? So, don't, you know, it's stupid, don't do ... just meditate, okay? If you overdose, you'll probably go to Nirvana. You don't need that stuff, and it might kill you, okay? Do it without, do it without that stuff, okay? So anyway, if you get off the elevator too soon, if you just try to stop your mind, it's a very strange karma. When you die, you are born as some kind of ... there's a special place that we cannot see. It's called Deva, Deva realm, and people there are exactly like Iron Man, Thor, Wonder Woman, Spider-Man, what's that guy, Transformer boy, okay? They are all exactly like that. Very powerful, and they're real. They're not ... yeah. So, I believe those guys who make those movies, I believe they have some karma to remember their past life. And they are not just imagining these guys, they are making Iron Man who they used to know, you see? So, if you get off the elevator too early, those meditations are kind of a good seed, and you are born in a place full of Thors and Wonder Womans, okay? It's called Deva, Deva realm, okay? Then you stay there for a long time, thousands of years, okay? And then you die. And to be Thor or to be Wonder Woman is very expensive on your karma debit card. So, this rebirth is an automatic ticket to the infernal realms. Everybody in the Deva realm, when they die, they always go to the hells, okay? Because they used up all their good karmas to be in the Deva realm, and then in the Deva realm you don't make any new good karmas, okay? So, now Pabongka Rinpoche is going to talk about those realms, and explain why they are also samsara, and why those people are also suffering, okay? We can't see it, so we don't believe it, you know? But if you meditate a lot, you will see these places, and they're real, okay? And like hell is real. The Catholic Church is completely correct on that. There is a hell, and you can go there, okay? Then, to me, this is what's cool about the Lam Rim, and actually it's a big difference between DCI and ACI, okay? In DCI, it's sort of our responsibility not to talk about future life, because people get very sensitive about religious things, you know? So, normally in DCI, we don't talk directly about future lives, okay? And in all of the schools you ever went to, and all the college you ever went to, they don't talk about future life. And I think the great thing about Lam Rim, we spend a lot of time talking about future life, okay? So, if there is a future life, coming to the Lam Rim is extremely important for you. If there's no future life, then you can come, write Geshe Michael email, Geshe-la, I'm very busy next week, I cannot come to the Lam Rim in Guadalajara, you know, I have a lot of work. Or it's too expensive. So, about the expensive part, just go to Pachi or Alejandro, prove to them A, you don't have any money, and B, you don't have two hands to work. Now, but you can always make some agreement with them, okay? So, don't not come to Lam Rim because you're busy with your work, because your work is endless. Your work never finished, okay? And you will die before you have time comfortably to come Lam Rim, you will die. When you die, you will go somewhere else. Only in the Lam Rim can you find out how to get ready. You can't learn it at work, you can't really get it on the internet, okay? And it's the most important thing to know. What to do to prepare for after you die. So really, all the people who don't come to Lam Rim, they're a little bit crazy, okay? Are you human? Yes. Do you have a body? Yes. Was it born? Yes. Will it die? Yes. Are you ready to do ... do you know what to do after you die? No, but I'm really busy, you know? This is called anti-logic, okay? Got it? So, now in the Lam Rim, we are about to go to the next life stuff, and don't think it's some kind of superstition, or hell was made up by the Catholic Church so you will make more donations. It's not. It's real, okay? And you have a chance to get ready. You have a chance to learn about it, and how to avoid it. So, if it's me, I will come to the Lam Rim first. I will learn everything, how to die, where to go, like my mom did, okay? And by the way, she did die. I took her home. On takeoff from Delhi Airport, she had a seizure, and she died shortly after, okay? But she was ready, and she died with a Bible, okay? So, so now we're going to go to things that we have not seen yet, and we're going to talk about worlds that you don't remember, or you don't know, and I can't really prove to you they exist, okay? But I just say, if it, you know, suppose 50% chance it's true. Then to spend a few days learning about it is probably covering your ass. The owner of my diamond company, he's from Israel, he's Jewish, you know? And we had an agreement with my salary. He paid me a little bit every week, but most of the money we save. Then every six months he will, he will write a check, usually to the monastery or whatever charity I tell him to write, you know? Then, you know, we will sit down and they will say, okay, your account is like $93,000, you know? So, who do you want to check? What charity do you want to check? He likes it because he takes the tax deduction. He. You know, who should I write the check $93,000 you know? Then I will always say, you know Ophir, his name is Ophir, in Buddhism 93 is a really bad number, and a hundred is really a good number, but a hundred and eight, this is a super, super lucky number. Then he'll say, okay, a hundred and eight, you know? He will always give me like, sometimes he gave me like $70,000 extra, something like, he's very cool about it, you know? I guess if someone makes you a hundred million dollars, you don't mind to give them $50,000? Anyway, one day I asked him, you know? I said, you always give me so much extra money, you know? And he's going to the Buddhist monastery to feed the refugees, you know? Then I said, you know, and you're Jewish, you're super Jewish, you're Israeli, you know? I said, why you do that? Why you give me so much money for the monastery? And he looked at me like I'm crazy, you know? He says, look, you don't know who's correct. Maybe the Jews, maybe the Buddhists, maybe the Catholics. You got to cover your ass, you know? Why I mention that? Yeah, if there's 50% chance Lamrim is correct, then the smartest thing you can do is learn it, and get ready, and don't go to the hells, okay? And don't go to the spider-man realms, okay? Okay? If there's 50% chance, you will be stupid not to learn it. Cool? All right. Laura, you got a mandala in there?
