[Speaker 1] They don't call him Buddha in the Heart Sutra, they call him Bhagavan, right? And, you know, like you heard of Bhagavad Gita, right? It's the same word, okay? So, vat means possessing, the one who has bhaga, okay? And bhaga can mean good karma. And also bhaga means when you, I don't know, like if you're splitting a pizza, you take bhagas and you give everybody a bhaga, okay? The word bhaga came into English as fracture and other words. Vagina, it means broken and split. What's the word? Cleft? Cleft, okay, yeah. So, it means split or broken, okay? Then, traditionally, there's a famous verse that explains the meaning of bhagavan, okay? NYON MONGS LAS DANG DE BZHIN GYIS If somebody defeated their anger, how? Yeah, two husbands. If you don't know the answer to something, just say two husbands, okay? It's always the correct answer. NYON MONGS LAS DANG DE BZHIN, they stopped their karma, bad karma, they stopped rebirth, and they destroyed everything that can stop you from your spiritual success. Okay, then that person we call bhagavan, okay? Okay, yeah, I'm going to skip that one, yeah. So, the Tibetans, when they translated bhagavan, they chose CHOM LDAN DE. [Speaker 2] CHOM LDAN DE means destroyed the enemy, possesses the victory, and has gone beyond. [Speaker 1] Then, it means the Buddha has gone beyond two problems, okay? First problem, you don't understand the two husbands and you say, no, you're stupid. That's called the problem of samsara. Then the other problem, you learn about the emptiness of the husband, which husband? I didn't do anything husband, okay? [Speaker 2] So, you learn about that emptiness, and you don't answer your husband anymore. [Speaker 1] Because you don't answer, then the seeds finish, and he stops calling you stupid, okay? And then in your own home, in your own kitchen, you have a perfect husband. He cooks, he washes the dishes. If you stop there, in Buddhism we call it, that's the second problem. Yeah, just a happy house of your own. And you don't try to help other people to have a happy house, okay? Bodhisattva makes their husband perfect, means wash dishes and cook. And then they try to help other people to reach the same thing, okay? So, there are two equal problems. Number one, you're not happy with your husband. [Speaker 2] Number two, you're happy with your husband, but you don't care if other people are not happy with their husbands. [Speaker 1] So, in Buddhism you want to go beyond these two problems. [Speaker 2] So, one of the names of Buddha is person who went beyond, went to bodhisattva track. [Speaker 1] Okay. Then the place where this teaching was given, Heart Sutra, in Sanskrit it's Gurdrakute. Okay, Gurdrakute. Kuta means mountain. And Gurdra means vulture. Okay, then people ask why ... By the way, when Buddha taught emptiness, he often went to this mountain and taught it, okay? So, you know, Choney Lama is one of the only Tibetan Lamas who asked this question, like, why is it vulture mountain? [Speaker 2] Choney Lama is one of the few Tibetan Lamas who asked the question, why is it vulture mountain? [Speaker 1] Then the shape of the mountain looks a little bit like a vulture outline, okay? Okay, and he was sitting there on the mountain. Then it says ... what does it say? Yeah, Bhikshu Sanghena Sardam Mahat ... Mahatad Bhikshu Sanghena Sardam Mahataja Bodhisattva Sanghena. So, he was sitting with a group of great people and a group of great bodhisattvas. Then a group of great beings means advanced monks who were not Aryas, okay? They didn't see emptiness yet. [Speaker 2] They were not Aryas. [Speaker 1] Then it says also with him was a great gathering of bodhisattvas. No, I'm sorry. I'm going to cancel that. If you don't have the motivation to help everybody, we call you a listener, like a student, okay? If you do have the motivation to help everybody, we call you a bodhisattva. Then the sutra begins. It says he was in a great group of listeners and a great group of bodhisattvas. When he says monk, it means someone who became full monk, in this case. But the Tibetan name for full monk who got ordained is Nyanbar Zopa, Nyanbar Zopa. [Speaker 2] Okay? [Speaker 1] Nyanbar means got close to. Nyanbar means got close to. The Tibetan word for monk is the person who's getting close, because the word for ordination is to get close. [Speaker 2] Nyanbar Zopa. Nyan. [Speaker 1] By the way, the same word means retreat, okay? And it's the root meaning of sadhana, which means I want to get close to my angel. Then Choney Lama says, why is a monk called getting close? Then I remember the day I became a monk. I was a ... what do you call? Novitiate, right? I was a candidate for eight years. Then finally my teacher said, okay, you can become monk. Then he did the ceremony. There has to be other monks there. There has to be a group of monks. Then after the ceremony, he said, come up to my room. [Speaker 2] Then I ... [Speaker 1] I sat ... he sat on his chair, I sat on the floor. And he looks at me and he says, now you have a chance ... to become a Buddha, you know? [Speaker 2] Okay, you can go. [Speaker 1] I'm like, wait, what? I've been here for eight years? Well, he says, now you have a chance, you know? So, I'm thinking, well, if I didn't become a monk, do I not have a chance, you know? Non lo se. Okay. In the translation, we call bodhi ... bodhi means bodhisattva, right? Bodhi means become enlightened. Bodhi changes to living diamond. And you can help people on countless planets at the same time. So, that's the bodhi part, okay? Sattva in Sanskrit, it can mean truth, but it also means warrior, like vira, virasana, right? So, literally, bodhisattva means enlightenment warrior. And in Tibetan, chang chub sempa. It means a warrior who has thoughts of enlightenment. [Speaker 2] Okay? [Speaker 1] So, he says, bodhisattvas are called bodhisattvas because they are thinking about enlightenment, and they are brave. Then he explains the word sangha, because the Sanskrit says he was surrounded by the sangha. Sangha is made of two Sanskrit words. [Speaker 2] Sang means together. [Speaker 1] Ga means come together. So, sangha means came together. But some people say the G, it's not S-A-M or N-G-A. It's just, it's not S-A-N-G-A, sangha. It's not spelled like that. Sangha, right? G-H-A. The spelling, no, the spelling is S-A-N-G-A. No, sorry, it's not S-A-N-G-A. [Speaker 2] If ... Ah, no se escribe sin la H. [Speaker 1] No se escribe sin la H. So, we don't say S-A-N-G-A. Choney Lama has a problem with that. Most people say sangha means people came together. Sang-ga. Then he says, no, no, there's a deeper meaning. Look at the spelling more carefully. [Speaker 2] It's not sang-ga. Sang-G-H-A. [Speaker 1] G-H-A has a different meaning. It's related to the root han, H-A-N, which means to hurt somebody. Sometimes the H-A-N comes as H-I-N. [Speaker 2] Sometimes the H-A-N comes as H-I-A-N. [Speaker 1] Then you see it in ahimsa. People mispronounce ahimsa. It's illegal to put an M sound before an S in Sanskrit. [Speaker 2] There's no such thing. [Speaker 1] It's ahimsa, right? [Speaker 2] No hurting. No hacer daño. [Speaker 1] So, H-A-N means to hurt somebody. What's another English card name? Gun. The word gun comes from the same root. So, he says sangha's real meaning, it's a group who comes together who cannot be hurt by other people. [Speaker 2] If the sangha is tight, like in Guadalajara, then that's protection. [Speaker 1] If the sangha starts fighting, then they get hurt. [Speaker 2] You know? [Speaker 1] So, sangha, which is the real word, means like, I don't know, shield group? [Speaker 2] Nobody can hurt you. [Speaker 1] If the sangha is sangha, then they cannot be hurt. It's interesting, like if you teach in Israel, the word san came into Greek as S-Y-N. And synagogue comes from sangha. Jewish church. The word comes from sangha, synagogue. Cool? Alright. Mmm, I think it's cool. Okay. Alright. Why does he call ... okay, we're going deep into the Heart Sutra, right? Why does he say he was surrounded by students who were bodhisattvas, and he was surrounded by students who weren't bodhisattvas? He doesn't say that. He says great bodhisattvas, and great people who were not yet bodhisattvas. Then the not bodhisattvas who were studying with Buddha were already cool people. Can you see emptiness directly if you're not a bodhisattva? We say yes. Yes, okay? So, those guys, they weren't so worried about helping other people. But they understood reality like Stephen Hawking. Okay, but these listeners with Buddha, they were already pretty advanced. Then, why did he call the bodhisattvas great in the Heart Sutra? Then he quotes Maitreya, and this is the coming Buddha, the next Buddha. [Speaker 2] Maitreya, and in that book, the next Buddha is explaining the word Mahayana. [Speaker 1] So, the way of the bodhisattva is called the greater way, right? Then, somebody asked Maitreya, why is the Mahayana called Maha? Maha. Why? What's great about it? Then Maitreya said, oh, seven different meanings. But he didn't explain it. Then there's a great Lama called the Gungtang Lodrugyatso. There's a couple of Gungtangs, okay? And he explained the seven, so I put it here for you. I didn't charge extra, okay? Number one, these people have great focus. It means they understand all the great books, okay? [Speaker 2] Number one. [Speaker 1] Number two and number three, they have two great accomplishments. If you become a Buddha, that's the best thing you can do for yourself. And it's the best thing you can do for other people. So, we got three grades so far. Number one, great vision. They cover all the scriptures, all the books. Number two and three, they did the best thing for themselves, the greatest thing, and they did the greatest thing for other people. So they are Maha, Maha, and Maha. This is the next Buddha explaining why Mahayana is called Mahayana, okay? [Speaker 2] Got it? He said, seven reasons. [Speaker 1] Number one, these bodhisattvas, they have great range in their study. They study hundreds of great things. They achieve the best thing for themselves. Great number two. They achieve the best things for other people. Great number three. They have wisdom, but not regular wisdom. They have Maha wisdom. [Speaker 2] Great wisdom. [Speaker 1] What's Maha wisdom? Well, it's a specific kind of wisdom. [Speaker 2] You understand the pen is coming from you. [Speaker 1] You can even include the husband is coming from you in that one. But it's much more difficult to understand that you are coming from you. And when you see emptiness directly the first time, this is one of my Geshe questions. Some guy came 2,000 miles to try to ask me this question. He said some Tibetan Geshe up in North India, he said, some westerner going to try to be a Geshe, I'm going to go down and kick his ass. Then he came to the final final exam and you have that video, there's a video, he's asking me this question. There's two kinds of emptiness. [Speaker 2] Emptiness of things, and emptiness of you specifically. [Speaker 1] Then there's two famous questions. Number one, when you are studying in the class, which one do you understand first? Emptiness of things or emptiness of people? Yeah, things is easier. That's why I teach, in DCI I teach the emptiness of the pen and not the emptiness of Scott. [Speaker 2] So I passed the first part of the question. [Speaker 1] Then he's like, well, when you see emptiness directly, which one do you see first? And that's emptiness of Michael. Michael sees emptiness of Michael first, Alejandro sees emptiness of Alejandro first. So the fourth kind of maha, big wisdom, is that you understand the wisdom of things and people. Then he says, what's number five right? Great effort. That means you're willing to work hard for about a hundred and ... [Speaker 2] something like a hundred and ninety-one billion years, billion, to reach the goal. [Speaker 1] If you're willing to work that hard, then you got the number ... how many? Six? Five? [Speaker 2] Yeah. [Speaker 1] And you refuse to give up one living creature. [Speaker 2] No matter how stupid they are, no matter how mean they are, no matter how bad they talk about you, you don't give up. [Speaker 1] Oh, I will bring this person to Buddhahood. Even this person. Okay, that's all number five. Okay, number six. [Speaker 2] Great practice. Maha practice. [Speaker 1] And here it means until you get the ten qualities of a Buddha, which I'm not going to tell you, but they are cool. Last one, number seven. China, like that right? They have numbers like one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. That's Hong Kong eight. Okay. Great deeds. And that has a special meaning. Okay. Buddhas usually get enlightened once. Then they move to another planet. And they pretend they are doing a whole thing over again. They get drunk, they go to nightclubs. They have a personal disaster in their life, probably because of drinking and going to the nightclubs. Then they meet a teacher. Then they work hard, work hard, work hard. Then they tsultimpa, human dictionary. Tsultimpa means they pretend to get enlightened again. Like this Buddha recently, two and a half thousand years ago, he got enlightened under the Buddha tree, right? Bodhgaya. It was all a fake. He was already enlightened. He just did the whole thing to show people how to do it. The willingness to do that over and over again is called great deeds. Grade number seven. Okay, so these are why the students were called great. Then the Buddha went into a special meditation. It's called chukyam namdang gyi ting yin tsen. In Sanskrit, dharmapalayam samadhi. So at the beginning of the Heart Sutra, the Buddha goes into meditation. And in the sutra, it's called chukyam namdang gyi ting yin tsen. It's called gambhira. Gambhira means deep. Sapmo. Deep. So the Choney Lama says, why they say Buddha went into deep meditation? Then they say, he's going to meditate on emptiness, okay? Then a question comes up. jirul sanggye chomden de ni du dak tu deshe nyi la lar min dangway sul gyi nyampar shakpa yin Okay? Generally speaking, Buddha is always meditating on emptiness. Only a Buddha can see emptiness directly all the time and see people and things at the same time. So some guy comes up to Choney Lama, says, well, what's the point? Why say Buddha went into meditation? He's always in meditation. By the way, the Tibetan word, okay, human dictionary, I'll load this into the human dictionary, okay? Say, lar min dangway deshe nyi la lar min dangway sul gyi nyampar shakpa deshe nyi means emptiness. Then the word you should learn is lar min dangway sul gyi lar means back, S-L-A-R, going back. dang means come out of the meditation. [Speaker 2] Dang means salir de la meditación. [Speaker 1] Lar min dang. He never comes out. On the day you become a Buddha, you go into meditation on emptiness while you're eating, while you're sleeping, while you're talking. You're always in the direct perception of emptiness. It kind of means your mind is split into two pieces, okay? Then Choney Lama says, yeah, I agree, Buddha never stops meditating on emptiness. But he pretends to do a lot of things, doesn't he? For us. Okay? Oh, I think I'll meditate. You know? Then the students are all like, oh, yeah. [Speaker 2] You know? [Speaker 1] So he has to pretend to start to meditate, okay? Then in the meditation, he blesses his two students. Okay? He saw emptiness. Who? So one of the two students, his name is Arya Avalokiteshvara, okay? Very famous in Chinese language, I think it means looking down or listening all the time, something like that? Avalokiteshvara? Okay, always listening to the problems of the world. Or always looking at the problems of the world, okay? So that's one of the two bodhisattvas. Then he understood emptiness during the Heart Sutra teaching. And he understood that the body and mind of a human being are both empty. [Speaker 2] Okay? [Speaker 1] That also happened. So, here's the commentary. RDU DE TSE SANGS RGYAS KYI BYANG CHUB DE NI BYANG SEMS RANG SDUG BSNGAL MED PA'I THOB PA'I SDUG PAS NA BYANG CHUB SEMS PA DANG GZHAN SDUG BSNGAL MED PA'I THOB PA'I SDUG PAS NA SEMS PA CHEN PO In the Heart Sutra, the guy who's listening, right? Avalokiteshvara. They call him BYANG CHUB SEMS PA SEMS PA CHEN PO BYANG CHUB SEMS PA SEMS PA CHEN PO Mahasattva Bodhisattva. Then, Choney Lama says, bodhisattva means he wants to achieve his own goals. And Mahasattva, big, great being, he wants to help other people. So, in the sutra, he's called Bodhisattva Mahasattva. SROG BSKYED SA LEN DE BZHIN MI DGE BA'I CHUD LAS RIGS DU SONG BA'I NA BAR PA He defines the word Arya. Okay? Right here. Because Avalokiteshvara is called Bodhisattva Mahasattva Arya Avalokiteshvara. [Speaker 2] So, what does Arya mean? [Speaker 1] Literally, Arya means higher person. And gone beyond, gone higher. So, in this case, Choney Lama says Arya means he's higher than the people who didn't see emptiness directly. So, in Sanskrit, Arya means higher being. What's the opposite of that? Ten cents. Yeah, Pratajjana. You can say normal people. Okay? They didn't see emptiness, they're not interested in emptiness. [Speaker 2] Okay? [Speaker 1] All your lifetimes stretch across the universe like a spaghetti noodle. Your mind has no beginning, your mind has no end. Your life stretches through the universe like like an endless spaghetti noodle. Sometimes if you can call Aldo now, you can call him endless spaghetti noodle. You don't have to call him Aldo. And there's a thing like in a human lifetime, from the time you're born until the time you die, you live a whole life, right? And there's virgins and there's not virgins, okay? Virgin, virgen. Either you had sex before or you haven't had sex before, okay? Now everybody woke up. So, there's the line of your life, right? And there's a certain time when you had your first sex with somebody, I think nobody ever forgets it. I remember mine. So, everybody in the world is either virgen or non-virgen. It's the same with Arya. [Speaker 2] But we're not talking one lifetime. Billions and billions of lifetimes. Then at some point on that spaghetti noodle, you see emptiness directly. [Speaker 1] On that day, your body starts to change into liquid diamond and nothing in the universe can stop it. So, they call you stream enterer. You dropped into a process and you cannot stop the process. [Speaker 2] Okay? [Speaker 1] It's like you got a holy HIV. And you cannot get rid of it, okay? And sooner or later, that virus will cause your body to change into living dharma. [Speaker 2] And nobody can stop it. [Speaker 1] Okay? So, you should try, okay? Before you die, okay? Before you get old. On that day, your body and mind start to change into an angel. And nobody can change it. Nobody can stop it. You can say, I don't want to be an angel, Geshe-la. I just want to be myself. I'm sorry, it's too late. You can't stop it. And you know ... Okay, one of the cool things is you know you have it. So, how are you going to get depressed, you know? How are you going to be unhappy? Someone criticizes you, you know? You're stupid, you know? Then you're like, Yeah, I'm stupid, but I've got liquid diamond. I'm like 2% angel already, okay? Yeah, I'm stupid, okay. I mean, after that, nothing bothers you, really. Okay. So, how to get there? Study the Heart Sutra. Okay. So, he defines Arya. I'll repeat, okay? Arya because he went higher than normal person. And ... all negative things, all uncool things, which hurt other people, he or she is Arya, beyond that, okay? Now, why is he called Avalokiteshvara, okay? Avalokita, okay? Avalokita. [Speaker 2] What, why? [Speaker 1] In Tibetan? [Speaker 2] Chenrezig. [Speaker 1] Chenrezig, okay? Chenrezig. Chenrezig, this word, Avalokita. Avalokita. Ava means down. Lokita means looking. Look comes from loka, okay? [Speaker 2] You know. [Speaker 1] It means when you fall in love with somebody, you know. You're like, you know, you're like ... Okay, this is Avalokita, okay? Okay, this is called Avalokita. Okay, so his name is Mr. Looking Down at People. With love, looking down with love. I saw a cute translation. The Tibetan is Chenrezig, right? So re has two meanings. One is look down with love. One meaning is rag, a rag. So somebody, some American translated his name as Mr. Rag Eyes, okay? Dirty cloth. Anyway, translators love to criticize other translators. Okay. Why is he called Loving Eyes? I translate as Loving Eyes. Why? He says because he never stops looking at people who are in pain. He's always looking. Who needs me? Guanyin, Guanyin. Yeah, always listening. Some people say always listening, Guanyin. Some people say always watching, okay? [Speaker 2] Same thing, same thing. [Speaker 1] Okay. Then he's called Ishvara, Avalokita Ishvara. He's also called Ishvara. Ishvara means Lord. And he's called the Lord because he's the Lord of the teachings. And because he's the Lord of the teachings, he looks deeply into the teachings, and that's what he's doing. [Speaker 2] Yes. [Speaker 1] PHUNG PO NGA PO DE DAG KYANG RANG BZHIN GYIS STONG PA RNAM PAR YANG DAG PAR BRJES SUGS DRA BA'O He looked into things and he saw the emptiness. Okay. SUGS LA SOGS PA'I PHUNG PO NGA PO DE DAG LA YANG RANG BZHIN GYIS STONG PA SHES RAB KYI RNAM PAR DAG PAR BRJES PA'O Then he understood that his body and mind was empty. [Speaker 2] During the Heart Sutra, he understood his body and mind are empty. I need a pen. [Speaker 1] Adriana, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay. Ninety-second emptiness teaching. [Speaker 2] Ready? [Speaker 1] One, two, three. What's this thing? Yeah, if a dog comes here, what do they do? [Speaker 2] They'll bite. [Speaker 1] Does the dog see a pen? [Speaker 2] Does a human see a pen? Who's correct? [Speaker 1] Right here. [Speaker 2] All the dogs go away, all the humans go away. At that time, is it pen or chew toy? Neither one. If the human comes back, what does it become? [Speaker 1] Yeah, becomes a pen. That proves that the pen is coming from the human. [Speaker 2] Why? If the dog comes in first, they will see chew toy. [Speaker 1] If the pen is coming from the pen, the dog will see a pen. Got it? This and this are the same. Okay? These are the same. Who made my arm? Yeah, I did. [Speaker 2] I put seeds in my mind. So, I see an arm. If the seeds change, I will see paw, paw, dog's leg. Okay? It's coming from me. [Speaker 1] So, don't think rebirth means there's a factory in South Jalisco. [Speaker 2] They only hire tall guys like Aldo. [Speaker 1] They have long sticks with nets on them, like fish net. And the factory is making dog bodies, like five dog bodies every five minutes. Comes out dog bodies. [Speaker 2] Yeah. [Speaker 1] They have a little door on the back. [Speaker 2] Then the soul catchers are there, you know? [Speaker 1] Waiting for a dead person's soul. Then they catch his soul. [Speaker 2] Open the dog. I got it. Close it! Ah, now he became a dog. It's not like that, okay? It doesn't take that long. Watch, okay? You have seeds for a full cup of tea. [Speaker 1] Now you have seeds for a half full cup of tea. [Speaker 2] What changed? [Speaker 1] Yeah, just the seeds changed. I didn't drink half the cup of tea. I did not. That's the same as, if you say Geshe Michael drank the tea, you will also say they caught the soul and they put it in the dog body factory, you know? How does Geshe Michael walk through the door? Projects small hole. [Speaker 2] Projects bigger hole. Projects bigger hole. [Speaker 1] Okay? You are not walking through the door. Your mind make a small door, then your mind make a medium door, then your mind make a big door, and you feel like you walked through the door, but you didn't walk through the door. Okay? [Speaker 2] Same, okay? [Speaker 1] Same. This arm is being sustained by 65 good seeds every second. [Speaker 2] Okay? [Speaker 1] In your past life, you helped other people in a major way 65 times. And that will sustain your arm for one second. [Speaker 2] Okay? Okay? You come into this life with a karma debit card, and every second you have an arm. [Speaker 1] The karma bank charge you 25 good deeds. 65, sorry. [Speaker 2] Good deeds. Okay? [Speaker 1] Your karma credit card is going ... It's going down, like ... [Speaker 2] That's why hair turns white. Hair falls out. The debit card is running out. Okay? [Speaker 1] You don't get to see your arm forever. [Speaker 2] You know? [Speaker 1] Pen doesn't run out of ink. Okay? That's not what happens. You have a pen because you shared pens with other people like thousands of times in the past. You have enough karma for the pen to last for one month or two months. [Speaker 2] Then it stops working. It did not run out of ink. Okay? Your seeds finished. Now, question. [Speaker 1] Is it possible to make a pen which never runs out of ink? [Speaker 2] Yeah, it's possible. [Speaker 1] Okay? Just keep sharing your pens. [Speaker 2] Okay? [Speaker 1] Okay? Don't stop sharing. Why they suddenly invent ... I don't know. I'm not going to go there. Why is there internet right now? Internet. Where did the internet come from? In your lifetime, the internet was invented and became popular. In your lifetime. After 50,000 years, in your lifetime, you can communicate with anybody on the planet for free from McDonald's through the satellite. [Speaker 2] Sucede que puedes comunicarte con cualquier persona en el planeta via satélite desde cualquier lugar McDonald's. [Speaker 1] What's that Louis CK? Louis CK. He's a comedian. [Speaker 2] Sorry, I lost it. I lost it too. [Speaker 1] I don't remember. Let's go to the other thing. Louis CK, comedian. Okay, then some guy was on the airplane with him, and the guy's like, Ah, shit! The internet's not working. The internet's not working. Goddamn plane. [Speaker 2] Some stupid American Airlines from Phoenix. [Speaker 1] They have a special algorithm just after you pay the internet stops. He's like, and the guy next to him, Louis CK, is like, Hey man, just take it easy. It takes time. You send an email. It's got to go to the goddamn satellite. It has to come all the way back. 20,000 miles. Give it some time. [Speaker 2] Just relax, okay? [Speaker 1] And stop being such an asshole. Your life is goddamn amazing. [Speaker 2] After 50,000 years, you are flying in the sky in a piece of metal. [Speaker 1] Is it a little bit amazing? After 50,000 years, you get in a metal chair, and it goes in the sky, and you reach New York in three hours. Isn't it a little bit cool? The guy's like, Oh yeah, okay, okay, yeah. Why are we talking about that? So, your body comes from your seeds. How about your mind? It's more difficult to see how your mind is coming from seeds, okay? [Speaker 2] If you plant good seeds, you will hear happy thoughts talking in your head all day. If you plant bad seeds, you will hear depression thoughts in your mind all day, okay? [Speaker 1] If you make other people happy, your mind is like, blah blah blah blah, happy thoughts all day, okay? They are coming directly out of seeds, okay? Are you the talker in your head, or are you the listener in your head? Which one? You cannot be both. Anyway, that's what Veronica told me. If you're talking, Michael, you can't listen, okay? Are you the talker, or are you the listener? [Speaker 2] You're always the listener, okay? [Speaker 1] You don't have a choice. You're not in control of the talker. You will hear what thoughts come out of your seeds. You cannot hear anything else. It doesn't matter how much you want to. Your mind is also coming out of seeds, okay? Oh, I had a good idea. You know why? A week ago, you were happy that someone else did something cool. When that seed opens, you hear a good idea in your mind, but it's not you. It's the seed opening. Okay, got it? Your arm is coming from seeds 65 a second. [Speaker 2] The ideas in your mind are coming out of seeds you planted last week. [Speaker 1] That's the emptiness of your body, and that's the emptiness of your mind. The arm didn't come from your mom. The mind doesn't come from the brain. [Speaker 2] Got it? That's emptiness. [Speaker 1] Why are we talking about that? During the Heart Sutra, loving eyes, Arya Avalokiteshvara, understood these two things. [Speaker 2] During the transmission of the teaching of the Heart Sutra, Avalokiteshvara, loving eyes, understood these two things. [Speaker 1] LTA'O ZHES PA'I PHUL YOD PA LTAR BYAS NA LTA'OR BYA'O ZHES PA'I BSTAN DU RGYUR BA'I CHUNG MI DE YANG Okay, SU LUS SEMS PO'I PHUNG BA'APO DE DAG KYANG RANG BZHIN GYIS STONG PAR YIN RNAM PAR YANG DAG PAR BYAS SU LTA'O, in Tibetan, LTA'O, okay? LTA'O That's the future tense. Then Choney Lama's complaining. He doesn't like it. [Speaker 2] He says, but you can deal with it. Okay. [Speaker 1] Okay, $20. TAK, at the end of a sentence. [Speaker 2] TAK TAK TAK I'll give you a clue. [Speaker 1] Used by a high lama. Okay, for $15, I'll spell it for you. Close. No. Come on. KUN TAK Yeah, investigate, okay? TAK So, what's it mean when a high lama says TAK at the end of a sentence? Yeah, that's worth about $6, okay? So, it's very rare, but in a scripture, it means the lama says, you know, TAK means, we got to look into this further. It means he's tired of checking, and that's all he's going to do. They are in a program to train ancient translators. Like Seiji. Seiji's in the program. Hasso's there. [Speaker 2] Chunzong's there. [Speaker 1] You should come sometime. Okay, we start at 6 o'clock in the morning. [Speaker 2] 6.30. 6.45. Anyway, we go ... he's there for 12 hours. [Speaker 1] And we have a hundred and ... right now a hundred and one people learning to translate, okay? So, as the teacher, my goal is to embarrass them once in a while. Okay, CHIR RGYAL ZAS KYI SPYOD PA LA CHEN DU YOD KYANG What do bodhisattvas do? Huh? Give me a list. Six Perfections, okay? [Speaker 2] Six Perfections. [Speaker 1] Okay, it's a big subject in the Heart Sutra. If you want to help other people, there's six things you have to learn. [Speaker 2] Number one. Giving. [Speaker 1] Okay? [Speaker 2] Share your time, share your money, share your love. [Speaker 1] Number one. [Speaker 2] Number two? [Speaker 1] Be cool. Yeah, CHI PA ... CHI PA? CHI DO. CHI DO, sorry. Okay. BI'EN CHI DO. [Speaker 2] Be cool to other people. [Speaker 1] Don't hurt other people. What's the third one? Yeah, don't get angry when you should get angry. [Speaker 2] Number four, have fun, okay? [Speaker 1] The fourth bodhisattva activity is, have fun. [Speaker 2] Nobody likes a boring spiritual person. [Speaker 1] Like, have a little fun, okay? Life is so short. [Speaker 2] You're going to be too old to have fun pretty soon. [Speaker 1] So, for God's sake, have some fun. Don't be so serious all the time. That's why I like to come to Guadalajara. There's more fun people here than any other city, okay? Right, Senem? [Speaker 2] Certain cities in Europe, like ... [Speaker 1] never mind. Everyone's so serious, you know? Bodhisattva required to be fun. Oh, I'm sorry, not all German, okay? I try to pick a country where the people are not here, but it's difficult. Yeah, so I'm not kidding, the fourth activity of a bodhisattva, the fourth skill of a bodhisattva, is how to have fun, okay? Don't be so serious, okay? [Speaker 2] When you serve other people. [Speaker 1] Don't look like it. [Speaker 2] Ah, cuando surfeas? Sorry, Freudian sleep. I heard surf, sorry. [Speaker 1] We should surf, yeah. But on other people, I don't know. Anyway, when you serve other people, don't look like you're at a funeral, okay? Oh, I have to clean the tent today. Have some fun, like Andriana. [Speaker 2] She's like ... [Speaker 1] she works like a slave all day, but she's always having fun. I don't know. [Speaker 2] Okay, that's number four rule of bodhisattva, okay? [Speaker 1] Even if you don't like the work you have to do for other people, have fun, okay? Okay, you're lucky to be alive, you're lucky to be serving other people. [Speaker 2] Have some fun. [Speaker 1] You know, I talk to people all the time about their problems. This is one of my jobs. Everybody thinks their problem is unique. Everybody thinks their problem is the worst one. Just forget it. Your problems are nothing. You want to hear problems, you come to me. I'll tell you what some people told me, okay? Did your mother hang herself in in the bedroom when you were there, okay? Okay, stuff like that. Your life is not serious problem, okay? Smile sometimes, okay? Your life's pretty cool. Have fun, okay? Nothing is so terrible that you can't have fun, okay? I don't care what trauma you had, you know, ten years ago, fifty years, I don't care. How many years you're going to be serious about it? And it doesn't help anybody, okay? So, have fun, okay? Alright, terrible things happen. Still we should have fun. Alright, what's the fifth one? Yeah, learn to meditate, okay? [Speaker 2] Fifth job of a bodhisattva. [Speaker 1] Sixth job of a bodhisattva. You know, understand the pen, okay? Understand emptiness, okay? Okay, I'm going to skip that part. Now, the next section is called the question. Most sutras are called the sutra which is an answer to Aisha's question, or something like that, okay? Jigme, what's the Sanskrit for the question? She translated it like 800 times, I'm just checking. Paripracha. Paripracha. Say Paripracha. [Speaker 2] Okay, almost all sutras are answers to questions, okay? [Speaker 1] Atayishman, Charyaputra, Buddharnirbhavena, Aryabhada Kirteshvaram, Bodhisattvam, Mahasattvam, Ithaddhabhachat, okay? Then somebody asked a question to the Buddha. The monk's name is Charyaputra. Charyaputra. Putra means a son of, like Paruski, Ivanovich, which in many languages like Johansson or, okay? [Speaker 2] Johnson. [Speaker 1] Son of John. [Speaker 2] Johnson, right? [Speaker 1] Okay, so his name is Charyaputra. [Speaker 2] Putra means son. [Speaker 1] Chary is his mother's name. If you study this sutra a lot, you will see Sharadvati Putra. Sharadvati Putra. Okay. [Speaker 2] Sharad. Sharad. Sharad. Sharad. Vati. Vati. [Speaker 1] Putra. [Speaker 2] Putra. [Speaker 1] His full name is Sharadvati Putra. [Speaker 2] Okay. [Speaker 1] Putra, good. Putra means son of. [Speaker 2] Putra significa hijo de. [Speaker 1] Sharad means spring in, sorry, autumn in Sanskrit, okay? [Speaker 2] Sharad significa otoño en Sanskrito. [Speaker 1] It's really Sharad. [Speaker 2] Realmente Sharad. [Speaker 1] Vati means has the autumn. Has the, has autumn. [Speaker 2] Vati significa que tiene el otoño. Autumn is like the season? Yeah. [Speaker 1] Anyhow, I was going to sing you a Neil Young song, but you will run away. There's a nice song called Harvest Moon. It's the biggest moon of the year, right? And his mother's name is Harvest Moon. Because her face is like, Aaron, like the, as beautiful as a harvest moon. So, the name of the famous monk who asked the question in the Heart Sutra is the son of the woman whose face is as beautiful as the autumn moon, okay? Okay. Then he asked a question, alright? [Speaker 2] To whom? [Speaker 1] They always ask the Buddha, right? Yeah, not in this sutra, okay? The question is always to the Buddha, but in this sutra, the question is to his brother student who's sitting in the same class. So, like Pyotr Veligy asked a question to Nick, okay? Right? Peter the Great asked a question to Nick, okay? And then it says, what does it go, sangye kyi tu. Sangye, you say sangye? Sangye kyi tu. Tu. Tu means like voodoo. [Speaker 2] Okay, magic. [Speaker 1] Sangye kyi tu means Buddha did some voodoo on the two students. Then suddenly the one says, I have a question for you. The other one's like, yes, what is your question? He's controlling both of them, okay? [Speaker 2] From his meditation. I think it's interesting to ask yourself why he did it that way, okay? Why didn't he just give the explanation? [Speaker 1] Why does he have two of his students give the teaching? Why? I'm not going to tell you. Okay, now, in the sutra he is called Ayushman, Ayushman Shariputra. When you say man before shah, you have to change both to shah. Ayushman Shariputra. Okay, what's Ayushman mean? What's Ayurveda mean? Science of life. Ayus means life. Before V, S has to change to R. Ayurveda. Veda means science. Ayurveda means medicine, right? He's called Mr. Ayur. In the sutra, they call him Ayur. Did everybody mistranslate it? Oh, if he has ayus, it means he's a senior monk. Many people translate it opposite. They say senior monk, but in the vinaya, monk with time means monk with time to go in the future before he's an elder monk, okay? It means junior. So, you will see many translations say senior monk. It's completely wrong, okay? [Speaker 2] As with most of the rest of the translations. [Speaker 1] But it is a polite term for a junior monk. So, he turns to loving eyes, Avalokiteshvara. Very cool question, okay? If any man or woman wants to see emptiness, what do they got to do? This is the one and only question in this sutra, okay? I don't know, probably the teacher was drinking tea. [Speaker 2] Buddha was drinking tea. [Speaker 1] And probably, you know, this guy's always talking about emptiness. So, what does any particular man or woman, what do they have to do to see this thing? [Speaker 2] That's the question, okay? That's how the sutra works. One student asked the other student. [Speaker 1] How do you see this emptiness? [Speaker 2] Okay, got it? Now, just like a good television show, we will stop there. [Speaker 1] You have to come back tomorrow. Alright, let's do this. Ayrton, are you up for that? Just say Ayrton, are you up for that? Just say Ayrton, are you up for that? Just say Ayrton, are you up for that? Cool. Thank you for coming. Thank you for coming. Thank you for asking me to teach the Heart Sutra. Okay.
