[Speaker 1] Okay, we're going to go fast. At 7.30 we're going to stop and go eat as much as possible. Tim, we're at dorna, M-D-O-R space N-A comma. You okay? All right, here we go. DOR NA BAR BU LUS MA MTHONGS KYANG We're on the description of the second negative deed. What is it? Stealing. Okay. DOR NA BAR BU LUS MA MTHONGS KYANG Oh, we finished that part. DER MA ZAD Next paragraph, Tim. GZHAN GYI RDZAS DANG YOD CHE SHOR GANG YAN GYIS RIM THANG TSA BA Anything that another person gives you, CHUNG BA means to... Like if they're going on a trip and they say, can you take care of this for me, Nick? And they give you something valuable. And then they go on a trip, or maybe they never come back, and you keep it. Like that. That's called CHUR BA. And then YAR BA. YAR BA means they loan you something. Like you borrow a bass guitar from somebody. How much value does it have to be? SHOR GANG One cup of yogurt or more. Expensive. Any object whose value is greater than a cup of yogurt. TZANG BAR GZHAN LA CHUD PAR SNGAR YAG GIS CI YUN RIM PO RLUNGS PA NA And then a long time goes by. BDAG PO DE BYAS PA DANG And maybe the owner of the thing forgets that you borrowed it. And maybe you're also hoping they will forget that they loaned it to you. NYAMS PA'I TSOS DE PA BYED NAS This is kind of a trick that sometimes we use to get something from somebody that we want. And we borrow it, but really our intention is to keep it. Now comes the part we talked about yesterday. THAR THUG. What's the THAR THUG of stealing? THAR THUG. What's the THAR THUG of stealing? Yeah, good. Say THOB BLO. Di THOB BLO. THOB BLO THOB BLO This is a famous word in Buddhism. Anybody can tell me? I'll give you a clue. The second half of the question, the answer to the question, is LEGS SO. Yeah, Phil got it. During giving vows, Buddhist vows, you give the vow, and then it's traditional for the Lama to say THABS YOD NO, THABS YOD NO, which means, did you get it? And then they say LEGS SO. LEGS SO means I got it. And the state of mind that's triggered by those words, in Vinaya it's called THOB BLO. THOB BLO. THOB BLO means the state of mind where you think, I got it. And Stanley Bandu's text, Abhidharma, it says, what is that? THOB BLO SKYE NA Yeah, at that moment, like a photograph, a halo forms around you. Some light that people cannot see. And that's, and as long as you have the vow, you have this halo. Buddha can see it, people cannot see it. DE LA DGE MTSONG YIN NA PHAM RGAGS DANG, DGE SLONG YIN NA PHAM PA CHUNG ZIN PA YIN SONG Then he said, if you're a monk, and you steal something worth more than a few dollars, you broke a PHAM PA. PHAM PA means a very serious monk's vow. If you break it, you lose your vow. PHAM PA And for a novice monk, it's called PHAM DA. PHAM DA means close to a monk's breaking their number one vow. Close to a full monk breaking their big vow. Okay, now we reached the third of the ten negative deeds, right? Which is, you know, usually in DCI we talk about hurting another person's committed relationship. Then this is a vow called a sexual misconduct. And usually in Buddhism we say some of it is cultural. And usually in Buddhism we say some of it is cultural. Like in Saudi Arabia, it's a sexual misconduct if a woman doesn't wear her veil. Or if she drives a car. And every country's definition, in Buddhism we say you have to recognize what's allowed in your country, what's not allowed in your country. Okay. So I'll give you four categories of sexual misconduct. These are called LAM MA YIN, SDUG MA YIN, GNAS MA YIN, and SBYO BYA MA YIN. These are four kinds. First one, in Tibet, if you are a lay person, it's called LAM MA YIN. What's that mean? Not the path. But kamino here means proper opening of the body. So in Tibet it was traditional only to have sex through the lady's vagina. And any other kind of sex through any other part of the body was considered sexual misconduct. This is cultural, and I don't think it would apply in different countries. So whatever is the custom in your country. Second one is called SDUG MA YIN. SDUG MA YIN. Wrong time. Wrong time. First example here is if the woman is DRU MA. DRU MA means pregnant. If the woman is pregnant, second is called GNYEN NAS. GNYEN NAS means sometimes in Buddhism we will take a one-day vow. And one of the commitments is, for example, you can't eat after noon. But one of the other commitments is no sexual activity during that 24 hours. This is also called the one-day Mahayana vow. And if you're interested we can do it sometime. In Thailand in December, we will have a Lam Rim class there. We're expecting about five or six hundred guests. So the person who's translating the book about the vows is Alison from China. And she will give a talk about her book. And we're kind of planning that she will teach the vows from her book for the one-day vow, Mahayana vow. And then the next day we'll all take the vow. And it will help pay for the retreat. Because there's no dinner. Okay, very smart Geshe Michael. Then there's GNAS MA YIN. You want to take a shot? GNAS Yeah, location, wrong location. That's the third kind of sexual misconduct. It means where other religious people can hear you, for example. Or in a church, or near a church, or like that. Number four. BROS BYA MA YIN PA BROS means to travel. But it's also an ancient word to have sex. It literally means take a trip. BROS BYA MA YIN PA means improper person. A person who is not appropriate to have sex with. Then traditionally, this is where we get other people's partner. Someone who's already in a committed relationship. Do you have to be married? We say no. If both partners believe they made a commitment, then that's a committed relationship. Is it okay to have sex with a person who broke up with their partner? Is it okay to have sex with someone who broke up with their partner? If the other partner knows about it. And they will agree, yes, yes, we broke up. We no longer have a committed relationship. If the other partner knows and also confirms that they already broke up, if someone tells you they're no longer in a committed relationship, and their wife agreed they're no longer in a committed relationship, you might want to ask the wife. If two people don't have a committed relationship, can they have sex? Yes. Can you have a homosexual relationship? Yes. Okay, can you have an informal relationship with more than one partner? Yes, if it's clear to everybody what's going on. And then he also mentions close relatives, to have sex with a close relative. RAB CHUNG GYIS NI MI TZANG CHOS TSE LOG YIN DU MDOR Any sexual activity by an ordained person is sexual misconduct. Any kind of sexual activity. Is it possible for a monk or a nun to have a spiritual partner? We say in the Vajrayana teachings, higher teachings, it's allowed and it's also very important. And there's a secret tradition in the books of our Tantric College. My Lama, he graduated from one of the two Tantric Colleges of Tibet. It's called Gyu Me. And we study twelve secret books. And in one of those books, there's a description of Lord Buddha's spiritual partner. And how they met each other, and how they got enlightened together. And they say that they both got enlightened together on the same day. And that's a very beautiful story you can study in course 17 of the Vajrayana course. And her name is Tilottama. Jetsongkapa had a partner. She's called the lady with the red hat. And that's a ... you can read about that when you start your Lajrana courses. DUS SHES NI BLO YANG LA MA THUG LA DGOS PA DANG, MI TZAM CHOD KYIS PHAM PA LA THUG MA DRIN DRAG BAR GSUNGS What's the conception? For a full karma, what's it called in Tibetan? Yeah, LAS LAM, karma marga, a path of karma. To make a full karma, the conception must be correct. It means you must believe that the other person is not married. If they lied to you, or they were married in another city, and you don't know about it, you don't make a full karma, but you do make a bad karma. Okay? Then for a monk, there's a footnote here. The conception doesn't matter. Whether you think the person is married or not, and whether they're really married or not, it doesn't matter. You still break a vow. NYON MONGS means, what kind of emotion has to be there for a complete one? SDUG BSRUNGS RGA, say SDUG. SDUG BSRUNGS RGA SDUG means poison. BSRUNGS RGA means all three. So, in the middle of the Wheel of Life, there's three animals. We call the three poisons. First one is anger. Okay, let's say you want to hurt ... let's say you're a male, and you hate another male, and to hurt them, you have sex with their wife or something like that. That's sexual misconduct with the intention of hatred. You see, feeling of hatred. Desire is easy. Okay, that's about 99%. That's the easiest one, because it's 99% of the karmic malice has to do with desire. Then how about ignorance? I've seen this a lot among students who study Diamond Way. Their hormones are very active. Male hormones are active from the age of about 15 to 96. Now, I checked on the internet recently, because I had to teach it at the college. There was ... there's a guy in India, he's 96, and he just fathered a child. Up to the age of 40, the man's semen is strong. There's a lot of little fish in each drop. After 40, less little fish in each drop, and a higher chance of birth defects. Then women's hormones start, I don't know, you guys know better than me, 16, 15? They reach the peak at around 30 something, 31, 32. If a woman doesn't have a baby by 31 or 32, something like that, then the hormones go crazy. And the woman becomes a little crazy. And they will do things that they shouldn't do. And then the hormones start to go crazy. And then it peaks around that time. And then it gets less and less, and around 50, 55, we have, what do you call it, menopause. So women's hormones go like this. Men's hormones go like this. Men's hormonal activity goes like this. Then if the hormones are in control of you, you will do stupid things, okay? Everybody, everybody in this room, if we have, when the hormones take control, you do stupid things, okay? Yeah? And you hurt people. So if a guy like this meets a girl who's like this, then the guy will say, Gisela, I found my spiritual partner. And the girl will say, I found my spiritual partner. And the girl will say, I found my spiritual partner. And I watched it many, many, many times, okay? And be careful, okay? Especially more experienced students. You've studied the higher teachings. They are very strongly based in morality. You cannot hurt a married couple's relationship. There are some men I've seen in groups that I've taught, every week they find a spiritual partner, you know? And they take advantage of a woman. And then oftentimes that woman will leave the group. And that woman will quit Buddhism because they had a bad experience with a man who had one of his six-month spiritual partners. So you have to be really, really careful. The women should be careful. Don't forget men's hormone is like this. The men should also be careful. You are just cruising along and somebody's hormone goes boom. Geshe-la, how can you be sure whether it's a spiritual partner or hormone? If you see them really sick, if you see them get overweight, if you see their hair fall out, if you see them lose all their money, and you still love them like a spiritual partner, that's a spiritual partner. And that's the most precious thing in Buddhism. It's like the Christian wedding ceremony for better or for worse, for better or for worse, in sickness and in health. You know the story. So be careful of hormones. Especially the older, more experienced students. Okay? I really expect you to be a good example. And if you give a bad example, it really hurts the whole group. And I've seen many women leave the group because someone took advantage of them. So, please be careful. If you think you found your spiritual partner, somebody came to me recently, Geshe-la, I found my spiritual partner. And they said, what do you think? Then I said, tell him you cannot have sex for six months. It got cancelled. Spiritual partner got cancelled. Two actually, during that year, two got cancelled. Two guys came to the woman and said, I think you're my spiritual partner. Then she said, let's wait six months before we have sex. Both the guys disappeared. Okay, so, okay, motivation. LOG PAR CHOD DU LOG PAR CHOD DU means desire. You want to have sex. LOG PAR CHOD DU means desire. You want to have sex. ZHI'I BSAM PA'I SBYOR BA What's the action? The skin of the two people should make contact. Especially WAM PO. WAM PO means sexual organ. THAR THUG When do you complete sexual misconduct? When you have your first sensation of pleasure. It doesn't have to be, for example, climax. When you have the first few moments of pleasure with someone else's wife or husband or something like that. Then you broke the vow. Okay, now the tension is very high. Let's go on to lying. I taught this subject in the college a few weeks ago. It was like, I had to talk for an hour and a half about it. Then there's one lady from China, I said, does anybody have a question? Then she raised her hand like, you know, I'm like, yes? What's the question? She said, first of all Geshe-la, I want to thank you. You gave me the talk my parents were supposed to give me and never gave me. Then I said, well, what's your question? She said, something really bothering me, you know. I said, what? She said, this mind only school idea, subjects and objects, what's that all about? Then I'm like, how can you ask this question right now? We are in the middle of discussing sex, you know. We are in the middle of discussing sex. The Chinese students are very serious. I wish the whole world, I wish the American students were like that, most of them. So, lying. We finished three actions of body, that you do with your mouth. Wild horse is difficult to control. Your mouth is much more difficult. To control these muscles here, very difficult. Then, so, we're going deeper, right? So, there are eight, the foundation of the Buddhist study of lying is called the eight conceptions. Number one and two. To say that you saw something with your eyes that you didn't see. Number two. I'm sorry, number three and four. Number three and four. To say that you heard something with your ears which you didn't hear with your ears. Five and six. To say that you smelled something with your nose, and you tasted something with your tongue, and you touched something with your body which you did not. Those three are together because they are just small. Seven and eight. Seven and eight. To say that you thought something which you did not. To say that you thought something which you actually did not. What's that mean practically? And we teach, we have a nice part of the DCI course where we talk about what is truth? What does it mean to tell the truth? So on the way to Chalapa from Guadalajara, just kidding, me and all the family, we stopped at Tara coffee shop. We had an excellent cappuccino. It's a very nice atmosphere. It's on a busy street. It's small, but it's very clean. The bathroom is extremely clean, which is important for older men. There are three very sweet ladies working there. When I went, the one who looks like the boss, I don't know, but I think she's the boss. She's super capable, and she has good English. Yeah, and the other ... no, don't show the photo. No, I'm trying to make a point. And just, yeah, semi-serious. And then the other two ladies were very, were very sweet. And they had a small, pretty box on the table. On the counter with apples, fresh apples. At a good price. And they make nice smoothies. But the most important thing, they have fresh cookies. And I had the ginger lemon cookie. Okay, not like Starbucks, like real cookie. Fresh, very fresh. So now you have a picture of Tara coffee shop in your mind. And I have a picture of Tara coffee shop in my mind. For me, in Buddhist psychology, that picture is called a dun chi, dun chi. Dun chi means the image a person has in their mind of Tara coffee shop who actually went there before. If you went to Tara coffee shop, you already have a dun chi of Tara coffee shop. If you didn't go, you don't have it. Then those of you who have never been there, and I just described my trip there, you have what we call drachi. Say drachi. You have a drachi. Drachi means a mental picture which comes from listening to somebody else describe Tara coffee shop. I have a dun chi of Tara coffee shop. Now you have a drachi of Tara coffee shop, if you've never been there. Why am I talking about Tara coffee shop during the discussion of lying? Your drachi and my dun chi, truth means, truth means I bring up my dun chi. Then I open this dangerous instrument. I bring up my dun chi. And I make sounds. Then you hear them. Then you get a drachi in your mind. After I said things. If those two match, it's truth. No, no similares. Iguales? That's impossible. No, it's impossible. Real truth is very difficult. That's why kunlong is important. What's that? Yeah, motivation. My motivation should be I want to give you the correct image in your mind which matches the image in my mind. I want to make them the same. Now, if we have a miscommunication, if I say there was a really good ponchik, but it was slishkam sladki. Ladna? Yeah, if I use Russian and you don't understand what I said, then that's just the communication. My motivation was to give you the same picture. So that's truth, okay? What I saw, I should give you the picture. What I heard from the supervisor who spoke English, I should communicate to you. What I tasted with my tongue in the cookie, what I smelled in the cappuccino, how it felt, I don't know, what? Yeah, it was very ... the breeze was very nice. And what I was thinking about the place, I should communicate to you correctly. Got it? What I saw, you should see. One and two. What I heard there, you should hear. Three and four. What I smelled, tasted, and touched, and what you imagine I smelled and tasted and touched are five and six. And how pleasant it was to me, and how pleasant you feel it was, should match. It's seven. That's seven and eight. So now we have eight conceptions, right? You got four, I got four. You have four, and I have four. And that's truth. And now you can feel how difficult it is to tell the truth. Okay, now let's go to the ... We finished the eight conceptions, right? About Tara Coffee Shop. And I recommend ... okay. I give five stars. I'm also trying to become an investor. So, you know, be careful. Okay, in my way you mean MI SBRO BA MA GZHAN DUN GO'A Say MA GZHAN DUN GO MA GZHAN DUN GO This is the traditional Buddhist definition of a human being. MA GZHAN DUN GO MA GZHAN, okay, I understand it's not a perfect definition, but it's traditional. MA GZHAN means knows how to talk. Understands how to talk. Not talk to your nose. Then DUN GO means can understand what other people say. Of course there are humans who don't, like your husband. But generally, this is the definition of a human. So, to break this commitment, it doesn't count if you tell your dog, I'll be back at four o'clock with some really good food for you. Okay, because they're like, you know, probably they understand, I don't know, more than you think. But anyway, traditionally for deed number four, the other party should be a human. What is the necessary conception? When I lifted the lid to the coffee, sorry, the cookie tray, when I lifted it at the Tara Cafe, I was shocked. Many ants and roaches there. Lots of green fungus growing on the cookies. This smell hit me like a sewer. Now I am converting my image, you see? I am purposely twisting my image. What I really saw was super, super delicious fresh cookie, okay? And only one roach got into the cookies. Google it. But when I lie, when you lie, you must change the image, you see? Consciously, purposely, not by accident, not by accident. If you change the image by accident, is that a bad karma? Yeah, it's not the truth. Is it a complete karma? No. Complete karmas are much more powerful. Bad karmas are still trouble. Why? Later on somebody will lie to you by accident. Okay, understand? Still dangerous. KUN LUNG must be you want to tell a truth. Motivation is you want the other person to get a wrong picture. Feeling, feeling, duk sum, duk sum. Three poisons. Somebody give me an example of lying out of anger. Yeah, like I have a coffee shop next to the Tara coffee shop. All the customers are going to Tara coffee shop. I get angry. I want to hurt Tara coffee shop. So I start to talk to everybody about the green cookies. How about design? Lying motivated by desire. No, I go to Susana. When I go to her house I say, you know at the Tara coffee shop they gave me like 12 cookies for free. And their Guadalajara enchilada also really good. Actually, they don't make Guadalajara enchilada. Okay, understand? Okay, how about ignorance? [Speaker 2] I don't know. There can be many, but mostly ... what's that? [Speaker 1] Yeah, you can say that you didn't see emptiness, for example. But you want the other person to think that you did. And you talk about it wrong, something like that. Anyway, these top ten we do every 15 minutes, so just check the next 15 minutes. These top ten bad seeds we plant every 15 minutes, so check which one you are planting. SBYOR BA NI SNGAGS KYI BRJUN ZIG MA BA'AM What's the actual action you have to do? You use your speech to lie. Here's a cool one. ZIG MA MED KYANG DGOS YID SOGS KYIS BRJUN BYAS PA YOD We had this discussion in the translator class. But I'm not going to bet money because I think Stanley remembers. There was a debate in your text about does the Buddha have to teach ... Does the Buddha have to teach people in words to teach? He went like this. Okay, ready? I'll show you. Ask me if the cookies are green in the Tara coffee shop. Geshe Michael, are the cookies green in the Tara coffee shop? Okay, that's also lying. All right. Don't make any Irish cookies, okay? What's the THAR THUG? What's the THAR THUG? The other person must understand your words. Yeah, like you're on the way to Chalapa from Guadalajara. You reach a bumpy part of the road. And somebody asks you, were the cookies green at the Tara coffee shop? And you're like, they were really green. It was unbelievable. Then they don't understand what you said. You lied, but they didn't understand. Do you make a bad karma? Yes. Is it a karmic path? No. Which step is missing? In Tibetan language, THAR THUG, okay? THAR THUG. There's no THAR THUG. Three out of four are there. Three out of four components of a complete karmic seed are there. Now, there's some cool traditional exceptions. GSOS PAR DBANG BA DAG GIS ZAS BYA GANG NA SHES SPYI BA LTA BU If someone runs into your house, and they see three gang guys are chasing me with guns, this happened at Masamitla, right? Sorry, Casa Seleccionas. What was the name of that, Padre Osvaldo? What do you think Padre Osvaldo at the Casa Seleccionas will say to those three mafia guys if they come to the gate and say, did you see a guy running by here? Yeah, he will look very Catholic priestly, and he will say, oh no, nobody came by. That's not a bad deed, that's a good deed, okay? DI NAS DE means MI BDEN DRAG BA ZHIG SONG NGAMS ZER NA DAG DO NUB BYED DGE MO ZHIG TU RDOR GYUR YIN ZER BA LTA BU STAM MA BRAL BA'I ZHES Say STAM MA BRAL BA'I ZHES Your mother is going to go with you to the La Mission restaurant tonight. She goes into her room and she comes out. She's got this red dress on. It looks terrible. She says, what do you think honey? Then you have to say, oh it was so hot today at Lake Chalapa. STAM MA BRAL means change the subject. BYANG BA DANG ZIN Geshe Michael is very good at this. If you don't want to lie, you can just kind of talk about something else. I'll teach you a secret. When your mother goes to put her dress on, always get a bottle of water and hold it. Then when she comes out, what do you think about my dress? Then accidentally drop the water. Then like, oh, oh, that's hot. Then you don't even have to change the subject. That's also secret. SOGS CHAGS DGOS That's what you should do. Okay, I'm going to ... We have ten more minutes. Actually everybody looks hot tonight. I'm not changing subject. I never saw so many beautiful ladies and men. If you're a man and you don't have a shirt, let me know. I'll loan you one. Yeah, it's true. Any questions, we have ten minutes. Any subject, doesn't matter. Doesn't have to be relevant. Tim has the microphones, or Alex. [Speaker 2] Okay. About Tartulk of lying, does the person have to believe what they were told? [Speaker 1] That's a good question. I'll repeat the question. When we talk about the final step in lying, we said the other person has to understand what you said. But Phil asked a question. Venerable Phil asked a question. To get to the final step in lying, does the other person have to believe you or not? What do you think? We say no. They don't have to believe you. Your wife never believes you. But still you can lie to your wife. No, yeah, they don't have to believe. Because your intention was to lie. Okay, alright. [Speaker 2] But the Dunchy hasn't been transferred according to plan. [Speaker 1] You want to repeat? Phil says you were trying to give them a mental picture which was not match your mental picture. And Phil's making this point. You attempted to give your wife a wrong mental picture. But she knows you very well, so halfway to her head, she switched it. So now unfortunately, her mental picture matches yours. You have a mental picture of the bar that you went to after work. You told your wife you have to work late. Halfway to her mind, working late became bar picture. Now they match perfectly. Then Phil says, Venerable Phil's question, if she gets a matching picture by accident, she's going to be a bad person. Did you still do step number four? That's a great question for debate ground. You take it there. That's what our teacher will say when they're not sure about the answer. No, seriously, I think the intention was still, you presented an op... She got a picture of you staying late at work just before she flipped it. How's that? Again, please. She got the picture from your words of you staying late at work. Then in ten seconds she flipped it. But she still had a mismatching picture for the first ten seconds. She says your wife, for a few seconds, received the picture, generated the picture you transmitted of you staying late at work, but in a few seconds she detected it was a lie and she flipped it, and she generated the correct picture you had of you being at the bar. So there were a few seconds in which you lied. Beautiful. Okay, one more question. Wait, microphone not working. Wait, microphone. Ah, but she didn't say it as a joke. No. No. No, no, no. Okay, let me explain, let me explain. Let me explain what just happened here in this Mexican crowd. Okay. So she's like, this whole thing about holding the glass of water when your mom comes with the dress, is that like a joke? And then everybody's like, no, no, no, no, no, the whole idea is that you don't tell her that her dress is ugly and you avoid lying to her. You avoid the subject. I agree with him. No. No, she thought it was a joke and that you were trying to throw water to the dress or something. Is that a bad seed? That's very bad karma to throw things at your mom. Okay, one more. One more, one more. Monica. Thank you. Okay, I'm, it's a little hard in my mind to make this question, so I'll do the best I can. Si. I'll try to match your picture. Okay, so the teachings the Buddha gave about the ten misdeeds is part of his figurative teachings, not literal, correct? So the teachings the Buddha gave about the ten worst misdeeds are metaphorical or literal? Yes, well. You think they're metaphorical? Yes. Are they metaphorical? Why do you say that? Why do you say that? Okay, so the only teachings the Buddha gave that are literal, he has to talk about emptiness, right? Oh, nice question. So. And so any teaching that he gave that he doesn't talk about emptiness is figurative. Figurative is metaphorical. Metaphorical, yes. So in what case, I mean, like what kind of an example or in what case can you not be ethical and it's okay? You know what I mean? Yeah, okay. Let's talk about it. Let's talk about it. So there's a tradition in Buddhism that Monica is referring to that says, what did the Buddha really want to talk about? And when he gave a lecture, like DCI lecture, and Geshe Michael spent three days talking about how to make money. Is it what he really wants to talk about? No. No. Okay. Is it helpful? Yeah, if people use karma to make money, we say they take one step up the karmic ladder. So it's useful. But it's not what Geshe Michael really wants to talk about. Then question about these ten good deeds. If what Buddha wants to talk about is only emptiness, then when he teaches the ten good deeds, is he talking about what he really wants to talk about? And this you have to go to the pen. So is the pen coming from the pen or is the pen coming from me? Come from me. How? Seed opens in my mind. Small picture of a pen comes out. The dog has a different seed, so they have a different picture. How did that seed get in my mind? He needed a pen last week. I gave him the pen. I let go. I saw this image, let go. That image came through the window of my eyes, touched my brain, and made an impression on my brain. Then that impression within two hours becomes a karma seed. What's the emptiness here? Let's talk about the pen which is not coming from me. [Speaker 2] Got it? [Speaker 1] Let's talk about the pen which is not coming from me. There's no such thing. It's like talking about the great American president. There's no such thing. No, really, okay? Just not there. That's emptiness. The other side of emptiness, if this is emptiness, the other side of emptiness is a pen coming from giving a pen. Pen coming from giving a pen. They come together. If you buy this one, you have to buy this one. You cannot buy the front of an iPhone. You go to the Verizon store and say, I just want the front of the iPhone, I don't want the back. Buddha doesn't sell the front without the back. Buddha doesn't sell you the front without selling you the back. Okay, they go together. You can't teach emptiness without teaching good behavior. And, I'll tell you a secret. Keeping these ten is the only way to reach deep meditation. And deep meditation is the only way to see emptiness.
