[Speaker 1] Okay, we have to finish those nine metaphors. [Speaker 2] I think we're on the sixth one? [Speaker 1] No, actually. [Speaker 2] No? Five? [Speaker 1] Oh, we finished five, yeah. Okay, it's called Norbu Rinpoche in Tibetan language. And the verse from ancient India. Norbu Rinpoche in Tibetan language. And here's the commentary. Norbu Rinpoche, so what is the jewel? So, in ancient India, there's a special jewel. So, many of you know this mantra, OM MANI PADME HUM. The money means ... it doesn't mean money, okay? It means jewel. Okay, and there's a special gemstone called Chitta Mani. So, Chitta means mind. And Chitta Mani means ... so, people will go out into the forest In India, and in the water, in the stream. You can find this special jewel. And if you cut it, and then you put it up on a high place like a flag pole. And you wait for a special day like the 8th day of the moon. Or the 10th day is better. And then if you do some prayers, it's like turning on the jewel. And suddenly it will start to work. And it will just give you anything you want. Okay, so I don't know. If you want a cappuccino, you can just pray, and from the jewel will come a cappuccino. Then that jewel doesn't have to think about it. Cannot think. It just automatically comes out of the jewel. NYAM DU MED KYANG CHOS CING SU BA LTA PA NA If you make offerings, and if you do proper prayers to this jewel, DE DAG LA DGOS DU SO SOGS SBYUNG BA BZHIN Then all the things you want will come. In the same way, DE BZHIN BSHAD PA'I THUG YI YI BZHIN NOR BU KYANG So also the jewel of the Buddha's heart, which we call YI BZHIN NOR BU. YI BZHIN NOR BU means that jewel will give you any of your wishes. YI BZHIN NOR BU means that jewel will give you any of your wishes. NYAM DU MED PAR It doesn't have to think about it. Buddha doesn't have to think about it. Then he will do what's necessary for each different level of person. Number seven. It's called DRA NYAN. Which means echo. JI LTAR DRA NYAN GYIS NI DRA GZHAN GYIS RNAMS RIG LAS CHUNG BA NYAM DU MED CING SO MED LA PHYIS DANG SNANG NA MI NAS BDAG DE BZHIN BSHAD PA'I GSUNG GZHAN GYIS RNAMS RIG LAS CHUNG BA NYAM DU MED CING SO MED LA RNAM PAR BDAG MED SO MED CING PHYIS DANG SNANG NA NI MA YIN This is the ancient poem. DRA NYAN GYIS DRA DE GZHAN GYIS SNGAGS KYIS RIG BYED LAS CHUNG ZHING GZHAN LA LEN BYA'O NYAM PA'I RTOGS PA MED Then echo. Or if you say something loud into a cave. In the cave, doesn't have to think, Oh, Geshe Michael want me to repeat. It's automatic. BYED RKYEN GYI SO MED And there's no movement of tongue or no closing of the throat. PHYIS SKYES PA'I RGYU DANG SNANG PHRAGS SREBS SOGS NA MED KYANG The cave doesn't have teeth or tongue. KYANG LEN GYIS DRA BYUNG BA BZHIN DU But still it will give you an answer. Like that, SANGS RGYAS KYI GSUNGS KYI DRIN LAS KYANG When a Buddha speaks, BRDUL BYED DE BRTZON LAS CHUNG ZHING That speech of Buddha is coming from the seeds of the student. If the student has a lot of faith, and if the student works hard, then the teacher will come like an echo. So, if you heard anything good these last nine days, eight, nine days, we should give a flower to Geshe Michael? No, I'm just a cave. Okay? Who made the sound? Yeah, you did. So, everybody should buy a flower. Everyone should buy a flower. And offer it to the person who gave this teaching. Like this. Thank you so much. Okay? Okay, understand? Okay. Alright. You made the teaching. With your faith, and with your hard work. I'm just a postman. Okay. That's what this one is about. I'm the cave. You shared your wisdom with many other people in your life. You helped many people. And it's like you are yelling into the cave. Then, a special cave will make the sound louder than the original sound. Because the second law of karma is that seeds always grow. So, you helped other people. You shared what you understood. Then, the cave flew here on China Southern Airlines from Los Angeles. Cave sat up here. Then, your own seed hit me and came back to you. Okay. Okay. And that's how you got this teaching. So, if you want more teaching, when you go home, then in a sweet, calm way, to those friends who you think will benefit, without, what do you call it? Fanatic, you know. You must accept seeds. Okay, not like that. If someone needs money, they're having trouble with their husband or whatever, then gently, and with kindness, and with humility, share with them. Okay, we don't know who's a Buddha. You must become Buddhist. I'm Buddha. I'm already Buddhist. Okay, we don't know your children are Buddha or not. So, be careful. Don't be like this. Okay, good. Number eight, is the sky. CHUNG SRED MED CING SNANG BA MED PA MED CING BRTEN MED LA MED KYIS LAM LAS RAM BDE PA SU MED RTEN DU MED PA YID RNAMS KA MTHO DANG MA MTHONG DANG MTHONG DANG MA MTHONG YANG DE BZHIN DE LTAR YOD MIN PA DE BZHIN THAMS CAD SANGS RGYAS LA MTHONG YANG DE NI DE LTAR MIN Now then, here's the explanation. PHYIR LUNG NGO PO MA GRUB CING BRTEN MA THAG RGYEN MI RKYEN DAG RGYEN DU MED LA MED KYIS YUL LEN DE BDE PA'I GSUNG DU MED PA So, there's a very famous mantra. There's a very famous mantra. [Speaker 2] SRED MED CAM NAD DANG MA MTHONG DANG MA THOR RIG PHA PAD MED RKYEN DU THAM PHONG YANG DE BZHIN DU THAM DANG PHYIR LUNG NGO PO MA GRUB CING BRTEN MA THAG RGYEN MI RKYEN DU PHAP NYID PA DE BZHIN DU DANG RGYEN DU NTHONG YANG DE BRTEN MA THAG RGYEN DU BRTEN MA THAG RGYEN MI that's a mantra for Tsongkapa. [Speaker 1] Tsongkapa is the greatest teacher ever lived on this planet. And everything I'm teaching you, everything I learn in my life come from Tsongkapa. So, you are lucky. He's part of West China. Was born in... nowadays you call it Tars, I think. Tars? Kumbum? Tars, yeah. So, you are lucky to have this teacher come from your country. Then, his mantra start with MIG MED TSE BA. It means, I love you, but you're not there. There is a rock and roll song. What is it? By Bjork. I love you, but I haven't met you yet. It's like that. So, when Buddha looks at people and loves them, he understands who is not there. Now, I don't want you to feel confused anymore, okay? You've been here for 9, 10 days. Every time Geshe Michael talk like that, you have to remember only one thing. Phantom Husband. Okay, that's all. Not some big philosophy. You come home, husband call you stupid. There is a husband there which doesn't come from what you did to your two bad kids. The husband who is not coming from your seeds doesn't exist. Can't exist. Never existed. Never will exist. Okay? And that husband is the one you get angry at. All the fights you ever had with your husband or your wife, you were having a fight with nothing. That's kong shing. So, when I talk like that, don't go like that. What do you mean Tsongkapa say we have to love people? But they are not there. Now you know, you can read every Buddhist book in the world. There is nothing different or deeper than that. That husband is not there. Any time you feel upset, you are upset at nothing. Nothing means the husband who didn't come from your seeds. And that husband doesn't exist. Hang on, I got Lama phone. This is Lama's special number. It's a good luck it came at this time. Now, the whole subject of the lam rim, at this week, okay, you know the subject. Protection. So, who can help you? Buddha, Dharma, Sangha. Jewel. When you say jewel, you should remember kong shing. Emptiness. Keshila, how does Buddha protect me if a Buddha is empty? What should you remember? Stanley, look. Okay? What should you remember about three jewels? Again, the answer is phantom husband. Okay? It's not there. Okay? Then, that's protection. Why? Because you understand the other half of dependent origination. What's dependent origination? Sorry, it's here. You know, my husband called me phantom because I yelled at my two bad kids last week. Okay? If you want, when you come home from work, before you open the door, take your pen out. Then open the door. Okay? So, that's dependent origination. There's no Buddhist book which is more deep than that. Okay? There's no teaching I didn't give you. Okay? Husband is dependent origination. What's it mean? Coming from your seeds. That's all. Anything more complicated, just forget it. Not correct. Actually, we don't have to have another program. But let's do it because it's fun. Okay? There's no other information. Dependent origination, everything coming from seeds in your mind. Emptiness. There's nothing else. There's no husband who's not coming from you. If you have a problem with your husband, it's whose fault? Me. How can I fix it? Change your seed. Then the husband has to change. There's a lady from Singapore. She told me, Geshe-la, you taught us how to do business. You taught us about seeds. Can I use it for my personal life? I said, yeah. Can fix any problem? Yeah, yeah, you can fix. What's a big problem? My husband. What's the problem? You know, we are married for 30 years. I cook for him every night for 30 years. Then he didn't wash the dishes one time. Can I plant a seed to make him wash the dishes? I have an idea. Use the fourth step. [Speaker 2] Okay. [Speaker 1] Then she took refuge. Okay, in the fourth step. She took refuge in the fourth step. She didn't fight with her husband. I told you there's two ways to fight with your husband. Number one, you can try logic. You know, I also work. We both work. I'm tired, you're tired. You know, I cook for you every single day. Takes me extra hour and a half. I buy the groceries. So, since we both work, it's logical. You could wash the dishes half the time. He's like, doesn't sound logical to me. Okay. Then you can try the blackmail. He's like, I feel romantic tonight. You're like, I got tired after I washed the dishes. Maybe tomorrow if I get some help. Like that, okay. Problem is, it doesn't always work. But if you plant seeds, it always works. Then I went to her house, like one year later, and she said, I want to invite you for dinner with me and my husband. Then we sat down in the living room. Sorry, dining room. Then she has this little bell. She's like, ding, ding, ding, ding. Husband came out. He has a woman's cooking apron. Yes, dear. She said, is dinner ready yet? No, no, I'm sorry. She told me, I finished the washing dishes seeds six months ago. He offered to wash the dishes every night. Then I was thinking, why stop there? He can also cook the dinner. So, that's taking refuge. No fighting. No arguing. And always succeed. Okay, you men out there, you husbands, in the audience, don't get nervous. Okay? Geshe-la, I don't want to wash the dishes every night. And especially I don't want to wear this. Then in your family you can have four-step war. He's like, four-step. She's like, four-step. When two people make opposite seeds, who wins? Understand? Okay? At the same time, one thing is a chew toy for dog, it's a pen for human. Emptiness is unbelievable. Emptiness is more powerful than the world. Okay? A real Buddhist person, they don't have to adjust to the world. The world have to adjust to them. Okay? And something will happen. Probably somebody from the Phuket Hilton will come to wash the dishes. That's right. Okay, let's finish quickly. We have about ten minutes. So, I was talking about Tsongkapa. Then there are some things in the world which don't change. And I don't have time to explain it today. We can do it next time. But one example is place. Space. Okay, it's all around. This microphone is in space. If I move it, space is still here. If I put it back, space is filled but it's still here. If this whole world blow up, then still this space will stay. Nothing can change it. MIG LAS BDE PA GSUNGS NAS RNAMS KYIS THA LA THOGS DANG MA BAR BSTAN PA BSTAN NA DGOS NYAMS PA'I RTOGS PA MED DE BZHIN SANGS RGYAS LA GANG LDAN NAS PO BAR BYA BA So, space doesn't really have up or down. Up or down means how close to earth or how far from earth. But if the whole earth blows up and the sun burns out, that space will stay here. Then Buddha is like that. He is everywhere. So, space up here doesn't have to think, I should go down here. It's everywhere. Buddha is everywhere. Doesn't have to think, oh, it's 10 o'clock, I have to get to Phuket airport. Why Buddha doesn't have to go on the airplane back to Los Angeles? He's already in Los Angeles. And he's in Phuket. Everywhere. Okay, where is emptiness? Buddha is there. Okay, last one. JI LTA SA LAS SKYE BA KUN RTOG MED PA LA BRTEN NAS NI PHAL DANG BRTEN DANG YONG RGYU LTAR BDE BZHIN RDZOGS PA'I SANGS RGYAS SA RNAMS DO MED PA LA BRTEN NAS BRTOR BA'I DGE BA'I RTZA BA NI MA LUS PA NI PHAL BAR BDUR RUNG SA LA BRTEN NAS SKYE BA KUN SA LA BRTEN NAS SKYE BA RTZA BA NYAMS PAS RTOG PA MED KYANG SA LAS SKYE BA DANG So the earth gives us our food. Earth gives us a place to stand. We are lucky to have gravity. When we build a house, it will stay there. Then the earth, it doesn't think, oh, today I should grow some crops. Or they have to get to the airport, I should hold up the car. It's automatic. And like that, Buddha supports all beings. Helps all beings. Without thinking. Okay. Then, I taught you three meditations. Please keep doing them. Okay. What was the first one? It's that when you bring your, in the morning, make new good karma, clean out old bad karma. With the most powerful vacuum cleaner in the world, it's your Lama's face. Your own teacher. Whoever is your teacher. Then, just think about them. Buddhist teacher, quality, anytime you have a problem, anytime you need something, just think about them. Okay, and they will help you. Okay? You don't need a cell phone. Okay? Just think about them. Bring their image. If you practice every morning, then anytime you need them, you just ask. Okay? Then one day, each one of us will get hit by a car or something. Your head will hit very hard. And then like, and then starts the mountain falling. Water. So we have to get ready. Practice. This is what it feels like to die. And every morning, sit with the teacher. Ask them for help. Bring them into the sugar in your heart. And get used to it. Then when the car hits you, you're ready. And they will come. So, quality of a teacher, in Buddhism, you just think of them. And they will help you. Also, many people took refuge. From your side, you have twelve commitments. From my side, I also have commitments. It's not just to give you a name. My commitment, as long as my rental car stays, I'll teach you. And if you need help, you get sick, or your mother gets sick, then email Scott or Orit. I need Geshe-la's help. Then I will help. That's a contract. I'm kind of slow sometimes. But I will do. Okay, first meditation. Get used to asking teacher for help. Second meditation. Practice dying. At the end of the death meditation, you ask your teacher for help again. Now we're going to practice the third meditation. Just a few minutes. Because we're out of time. So, you can turn on your phone if you want. Okay, in the fire, you saw some hand gesture? We call mudra. Okay. I'm going to teach you one. Okay. Hold up left hand. Like that. Then, should be little bit like this. Okay. Then like this. Coffee meditation. Coffee meditation. We're going to do a short coffee meditation. No preliminaries. No breath meditation. No full lotus. Okay, just relax. If you're Xiaoping, you can also yawn. Big yawn. I find it useful to look up a little bit. Like you're thinking about your boyfriend in high school. Then, I'll be quiet for a few minutes. Let's think about how lucky we are. In the whole world, who spends ten days like this? Who gets to hear about the emptiness of the phantom husband? Who gets protection for this life and after die also? Who has friends like we have here? Like Vitaly said from Ukraine. How is it possible so many people from so many countries speak different languages? Even some countries fighting with each other. But in this room, it's like a Buddha paradise. And after that song, everyone hugging each other. Those hugs are the flowers of our hard work. And thanks to Jasmine and Tim in your mind. How lucky we are. Okay, let's do coffee mingxiang. Just one minute. [Speaker 2] Okay, good. Alright, let's sit up. [Speaker 1] And I'm very grateful that you came. And I hope we can do many times. Stanley and me are going to sing you a song like two sick cats. This is a Chinese song called Farewell. It's written by a famous Buddhist master in China. It's saying goodbye to his previous life when he became a monk. So now we are saying goodbye to you. But it also means you are saying goodbye to your previous life that you don't understand emptiness. And you are going to a new life when you go back home. If you know the song, you can sing.
