[Speaker 1] Take out your dependent origination and emptiness. Turn it off. [Speaker 2] When somebody leads the mandala offering, they say the first two words each time, and then we follow them. [Speaker 1] Then, during that time, they are the boss. We have to follow them. If they go sa-yi-yi, then we have to go sa-yi-yi. Okay. [Speaker 2] She didn't. She is very beautiful. [Speaker 1] Just like Buddha's voice. Okay. Let's meditate. [Speaker 2] Because today is important day, we are going to take commitment. [Speaker 1] The best meditation we can do is to collect some good seeds. [Speaker 2] Clean out some bad seeds. [Speaker 1] And bring our teacher, heart teacher, into our heart. So, we'll do the usual preliminary meditation. People think, oh, that meditation is not too sexy. Geshe-la does that all the time. We want some new crazy emptiness meditation. But really, that one is the most powerful. [Speaker 2] Okay. [Speaker 1] So, please get ready. Clear your throat. Turn off your cell phone. [Speaker 2] Okay. [Speaker 1] And relax. [Speaker 2] Little smile before you close your eyes. [Speaker 1] Eyelids are relaxed. Fingers are relaxed. Stomach is pulled in a little bit. Shoulders go back and shoulders go down. Forehead is relaxed. And then try not to move. And slowly come to your breath. [Speaker 2] Long exhales. [Speaker 1] Then in your mind, please invite your heart teacher to come. They're sitting down in front of you. [Speaker 2] And you can feel the warmth from their body. [Speaker 1] And a beautiful smell like a jasmine flower. [Speaker 2] And they're looking at you with great love. [Speaker 1] Then think about one thing, one quality that they have that you would like to learn from them. Then make them an offering. I think a very nice offering is all the time and hard work you did to get here and to listen to all these classes. It takes a lot of courage and strength. [Speaker 2] 我想一份非常美好的供養就是你為了來到這裡花的所有的時間付出所有的努力 我想一份非常美好的供養就是你為了來到這裡花的所有的時間付出所有的努力 Then open your heart and confess to your teacher something negative you did in the last 24 hours. [Speaker 1] Maybe you were impatient with someone, or maybe you were a little pushy with someone. [Speaker 2] 然后打开你的心去向你的老师上师忏悔过去24小时你做的一些不好的事情 或许你对某些人不耐烦,或许你对某些人有点态度过于的强迫了 Then please tell your teacher something beautiful you did in the last 24 hours. [Speaker 1] 然后请告诉你的老师你自己在过去的24小时内做了一些很好的很美好的事情 Usually it means you took your time that you wanted to do something for yourself and you gave it to somebody else to serve them and make them happy. 通常是指你把本该用在自己身上的一些时间给到了别人用来服务他人用来使他人开心 Then ask your teacher for teaching. If we just ask, they will teach. If we don't ask, it's difficult. [Speaker 2] 接下来向老师请求教授,如果你请求的话他们就会教你,但是如果你们不去请的话,他们就很难来教你了 然后请求老师留在你的身边 Everybody needs someone to guide them in life. [Speaker 1] 在生活当中我们每一个人都需要某些人的指引 And if it's someone very wise and someone who stays very close, then our life is a lot easier. Then think about all the good karma you've made in the last few days. [Speaker 2] 这一下的所有的善业,然后把这些善业送到这个国家里面的人们 送到你自己所在的国家里面的人民 以及送到给所有人,不仅是这个世界,而是许许多多的世界里 Then please come back to your breath. [Speaker 1] Three long exhales. 三次深呼吸 慢慢地可以睁开眼睛 拉伸身体 非常好,非常安静,做得很好 Tim or Jasmine, can you come up? Here. Nick, can you please put that image of Lord Buddha? 放上佛陀的图像 Ok, good. So, we are going to take refuge vows. 现在我们要来给予这个皈依戒了 If you gave us your name and you put your name on a list, 如果大家有把你的名字放在我们这个清单里面有报名的话 Then we chose a name for you. 我们有替你们挑选一个新的名字 花了我们三天的时间,很多个小时 Especially Jigme and Stanley and Alison worked very hard. [Speaker 2] I like to thank them. [Speaker 1] Then, probably we made some mistake and some people didn't get their name. 有可能会有一些遗漏,就是有些朋友可能没有拿到名字 Then, remember, that's coming from you. [Speaker 2] 记得,那是从你而来的 No. Then, just tell Jasmine or Tim. Give them your name. [Speaker 1] We will give you one, so don't worry. We were very tired last night, very late. So, probably some people got three names also. Then you can pick the best one. If you didn't give name but you want to take a vow, 如果你没有给我们你的名字,但是你还是想要受戒的话 That's fine, you can do it today. Then give your name to Tim or Jasmine. And happy to give your name. 我会很愿意为大家起这个法名 Your group leader will give you your card with your name on it. That will happen during the break to this morning. Then, the names are always special. You have karma to get that name. So, it must have some deep meaning for you. So, you have to think about it. And every name has a spiritual meaning. And if you want some more explanation of your name, it's good to ask one of the teachers who taught couple days ago. The teachers, the ACI teachers. They have a lot of experience. They can tell you the deeper meaning of your name. Usually the name has some meaning meaning of some quality you have. Like nam kha karma It means a dancer in the sky. Then, everything has meaning. Sky always means emptiness. Karma to dance in the sky means your intelligence is very strong. Your mind goes through emptiness very easily. So, spend time with your name. [Speaker 2] Think about it. [Speaker 1] We put the Tibetan name. For Chinese participants, we put the Chinese character for the sound. And the meaning of the name, we put English and Chinese. Okay. Then, please this morning remember the contract. [Speaker 2] Twelve part contract. [Speaker 1] This morning I was late. I was rushing. I have to choose between cappuccino and lam rim. [Speaker 2] No time for both. [Speaker 1] Then, there is a problem. Every time you have a program, some students get sick or something. Then I was like talking to someone how to help the student. [Speaker 2] And I was like blah blah blah. [Speaker 1] Cappuccino lam rim student. Then the person, it was Janice actually. She is like very respectfully. Keshla, maybe we should use the four steps. Then I am like... So, that is the main vow. That is the main commitment. Which I forgot on the morning that I am giving you the vow. So, the main vow is to deal with problems or to deal with your dreams by using the four steps. And what it means is what you want, you must do it for someone else. Yesterday, I had this long interview. And the lady said, Oh, four steps is very similar to law of attraction. Then I don't know what is law of attraction. So, I said, can you explain it to me? And interview lady, I don't know if she told me correctly, but she said, if you want to lose weight, if you feel like you ate too many youtiao, then you want to lose weight. Then you can sit quiet in your chair and close your eyes and very clear visualization Geshe Michael skinny. And then it will make a impression on your mind. [Speaker 2] And you will attract skinny. [Speaker 1] Then I said, that is pretty good for step number one. Of the four steps. In step number one, you have to have a vision. What do you want to happen? [Speaker 2] I want Geshe Michael skinny and I want to eat youtiao at the same time. [Speaker 1] And I get very clear picture. I want Geshe Michael rental car healthy. [Speaker 2] Before I have to give it back, at the airport, at the end of my life, I want the car to work good. [Speaker 1] So, that part of law of attraction is okay. It's what I want. But then I told the interview lady, in this system, ancient buddhist system, there is mainly two more parts. What I want healthy body, then I must plant a seed. And the only way to plant a seed is to help somebody else's body be healthy. So, just to picture what I want, that's just first step. Then second step, I must help another person to get that nice rental car. And then third step, I must put water and fertilizer on that seed. Otherwise, maybe it won't open for 10 years or 20 years. Maybe give the car back and then the car gets healthy. So, I have to do my coffee meditation. [Speaker 2] Please remember the coffee meditation has two parts. [Speaker 1] Number one, I'm happy that I helped another person to be healthy. I encourage them not to eat meat at McDonald's and KFC. And I encourage them to do yoga. Or whatever you like. You can golf. I don't care. [Speaker 2] Some kind of exercise. So, I'm happy that I helped people. [Speaker 1] But secondly, I'm so happy I have a system that works all the time. Every time you help another person to be healthy, your body gets healthier. [Speaker 2] It always works. [Speaker 1] So, when you do your coffee meditation, you can think, I'm so happy I found the secret to life. [Speaker 2] I can have anything I want. [Speaker 1] I can stop any problem in my life. [Speaker 2] I just have to help another person. [Speaker 1] Then, it's a kind of fei chang fang song. I feel so relaxed. [Speaker 2] Now I know how to live. [Speaker 1] Then, that's a coffee meditation. So, the main commitment this morning, while you take the vow, just think, I will use the four steps as much as I can remember. I will use the four steps. And I will try to stay near people who use the four steps like Janice, because she will remind me when I forget because I'm so busy. Then, in the Buddhist sutras, there are many stories of demon. [Speaker 2] Then, in America, we don't believe much demon. [Speaker 1] Then, in America, hundreds of years ago, in America and Europe, people believe in demon. Devil. But, nowadays, we don't believe much. Then, people ask me, is there demon? Is it real? I say, yes. [Speaker 2] They exist. I've seen them. [Speaker 1] They really exist. Today, during the vow taking, it's possible a small demon will come. Where? [Speaker 2] In your mind. [Speaker 1] It's very famous. Because during vow ceremony, you are going to put your hands like this. This is promise mudra. Not like this. Like this. Then, you hold it to your heart. Then, as soon as you do this, I don't know why, you start to think about your ex-boyfriend, ex-girlfriend. Then, the lama is giving some vow. You are like, why she said that to me 8 years ago? You know. What is that? Demon. [Speaker 2] That's real demon. [Speaker 1] Came into your mind. Look. It's so cold in here. What's going on? What's wrong with Tim? First, Tim make it too hot. Then, he make it too cold. It means demon came in. They don't want you to think about four steps. So, fight them. During the ceremony. It's so cold. Shut up. Four steps. Yeah, but my ex-husband. [Speaker 2] Shut up. [Speaker 1] Four steps. Tell your mind. We're doing four steps for like five minutes, okay? After that, we'll think about Tim and ex-husband both. [Speaker 2] But, during the ceremony, let's focus. [Speaker 1] Then, Buddha is here. Okay, it's just a picture. [Speaker 2] But, when we put the picture up, we are asking Buddha to come. [Speaker 1] So, we are taking the promise to Buddha. Okay, that's a serious contract. The other person is a little bit serious person. That's all. You ready? Okay, be careful. Watch for demons. For me, demon comes as a big youtiao. Then, youtiao comes. Here we go. It's tradition to bow down to Buddha. I'm going to ask you to stay in your chair. And, we are allowed when there is a big group. If we all stand up and try to do prostration, it will take two days. Somebody will step on somebody. So, there is tradition. [Speaker 2] You can put your thumbs inside. [Speaker 1] Then, touch to the forehead. And, you say om. Then, to the throat. [Speaker 2] And then, chest. Heart. [Speaker 1] Om. Okay, now towards the Buddha. [Speaker 2] You ready? [Speaker 1] Okay, we'll do together. [Speaker 2] If you are not taking vow, you can do some prostration. [Speaker 1] You can still get some good karma. [Speaker 2] Here we go. [Speaker 1] Om. Ah. Om. Ah. Om. Ah. Om. Okay. Now it's tradition you do three times to the teacher who is sitting here. I'm not Buddha. I'm just his lawyer. Okay, but there is tradition to also respect the lawyer. Okay, here we go. Om. Ah. Om. Ah. Om. Ah. Okay, good. Then, you put your hands like this. If you are taking the vow, and put it to your heart. Then, I will say the first part myself. Stanley will translate. And it's a very short ceremony. So, during this ceremony, please try to remember these things. No matter where you are born in this world, you will suffer. You will get old. You will lose everyone you love. Finally, you will lose your own body. So, I will try to become Buddha, which is the real protection. Because then I can help every living being in this world and all worlds. To help me become Buddha, I will take refuge in the Three Jewels. And I will take these vows of refuge, twelve vows. [Speaker 2] And I will keep these vows until the day I die. [Speaker 1] Okay. Just think for one minute. [Speaker 2] I will take these twelve commitments and I will keep them until I die. Mainly, I will try to use the four steps for everything. [Speaker 1] Everything I want, I will get it by helping another person to get it. Watch for demons. Okay. [Speaker 2] Keep your hands like this. [Speaker 1] I will say some words three times. Then, please repeat them after me. First, I will say them in English. Do your best to repeat. Then, Stanley will say them in Chinese. Say them in Chinese. We will say them three times. At the end of the third time, I will snap my finger. Then, it's very famous. In taking a vow, you must have toklo. [Speaker 2] Toklo means I got it. [Speaker 1] I got the vow. Then, actually, something changes about your body. After that, you have some kind of spiritual light in your body. It actually comes out. If you are very sensitive, you can tell this person has vows and they are keeping vows. Okay. First English, then Chinese. If you just speak Chinese, you can wait for Stanley. During this time, you have to say your own name. Okay? So, that part, we all say our own name. It will sound crazy. [Speaker 2] Two hundred different names. It's okay. [Speaker 1] This is custom. Okay, here we go. [Speaker 2] Push the demons out. Focus. [Speaker 1] Focus here, in this room. I beg you, O Holy One, to hear me. [Speaker 2] My name is Chen Hanxin and I go for refuge and I go until the day I die to the highest of people Who is the Buddha? [Speaker 1] Who is the Buddha? [Speaker 2] I go for refuge to the highest form of freedom which is the Dharma I go for refuge to the highest community which is the Sangha and I ask you Holy One Zun Zhe Please consider me Qin Shi Wo Wei a person with refuge vows Yi Ge Chi You Gui Yi Jie De Ren until the day I die Zhi Zhi Wo De Si Wang Zhi Zhi Wo De Si Wang Okay, second time. [Speaker 1] Watch for demons. I beg you Holy One [Speaker 2] to hear me My name is Chen Hanxin [Speaker 1] and I go for refuge [Speaker 2] Wo Gui Yi [Speaker 1] until the day I die [Speaker 2] Zhi Zhi Wo De Si Wang [Speaker 1] to the highest of people [Speaker 2] Zui Gao Ji De Ren Xun which is the Buddha which is the Buddha [Speaker 1] I go for refuge to the highest form of freedom [Speaker 2] which is the Dharma [Speaker 1] and I go for refuge [Speaker 2] Wo Gui Yi [Speaker 1] to the highest community [Speaker 2] Zui Gao Ji De She Qu which is the Sangha Ye Jiu Shi Seng Tuan and I ask you Wo Qin Qiu Ning Holy One [Speaker 1] Zun Zhe Please consider me Qin Shi Wo Wei a person with refuge vows [Speaker 2] Chi Gui Yi Jie Zhi Ren until the day I die Zhi Zhi Wo De Si Wang Third time [Speaker 1] Very careful watch for demons And at the end [Speaker 2] I will snap my finger Then be happy Oh I have vows I have real protection [Speaker 1] No demons I beg you [Speaker 2] Wo Qin Qiu Ning Oh Holy One Zun Zhe to hear me Ting Dao Wo De Sheng Ying My name is Wo De Ming Zi Shi [Speaker 1] and I go for refuge [Speaker 2] Wo Gui Yi [Speaker 1] until the day I die until the day I die [Speaker 2] Zhi Zhi Wo De Si Wang [Speaker 1] to the highest of people [Speaker 2] Zui Gao Ji De Ren Qun which is the Buddha Ye Jiu Shi Fo Tuo [Speaker 1] I go for refuge [Speaker 2] Wo Gui Yi [Speaker 1] to the highest form of freedom Zui Gao Ji Xing Shi De Zi You which is the Dharma [Speaker 2] Ye Jiu Shi Fo Fa [Speaker 1] and I go for refuge [Speaker 2] Wo Gui Yi [Speaker 1] to the highest community [Speaker 2] Zui Gao Ji De She Qu which is the Sangha [Speaker 1] Ye Jiu Shi Shen Huan [Speaker 2] and I ask you Wo Qin Qiu Ning [Speaker 1] My Vow Master [Speaker 2] Wo De Shou Jie Da Shi Please consider me Qing Shi Wo Wei [Speaker 1] A person with refuge vows A person with refuge vows until the day I die [Speaker 2] Zhi Zhi Wo De Si Wang [Speaker 1] You can relax your hands and I am supposed to say the vow is given then I will say this is how we take the vows of our refuge Please keep them well Then the last thing you have to say [Speaker 2] You say very well [Speaker 1] Ok, ready? [Speaker 2] Here we go [Speaker 1] This is the way to take the vows of a refuge holder Please keep them well Yeah Congratulations Congratulations Thank you for doing it I think we will take a break and then try to meet with your group leader I think it will take some time and a little bit of confusion [Speaker 2] So please be patient If you didn't get a name [Speaker 1] Just tell Tim or Jasmine We will do it for you [Speaker 2] Teachers will be here [Speaker 1] Teachers will be here If you want to know a little bit more about your name [Speaker 2] You can ask them Ok, thank you [Speaker 1] Ok, let's do a little bit of the Lam Rim So There is an easy definition of Buddha They are called Khen Sen Nun De Khen Sen Nun De [Speaker 2] Khen means [Speaker 1] They are like a good doctor [Speaker 2] So they check us [Speaker 1] and they can see they understand what we need Like That's the purpose of Lama, right? They can see inside of us They can see our past lives They can see our future lives Then that's Khenpa Khenpa means They understand our situation Very perfectly Sometimes a doctor understands your situation but they don't care about you Oh, you have cancer, goodbye Like they don't have big care for you So Buddha is not like that and our Lama [Speaker 2] is not like that [Speaker 1] The second quality Tse They care about us [Speaker 2] and they want us to be happy [Speaker 1] They want to take care of us They are like a big [Speaker 2] taking care machine [Speaker 1] They just want to take care of us So they know what sickness we have [Speaker 2] They know what we need Perfectly [Speaker 1] Better than we do Tse means [Speaker 2] They love us They want to help us [Speaker 1] Then sometimes Somebody understands your problem and they care about your problem but they don't have the power [Speaker 2] to help you [Speaker 1] You have some kind of cancer I love you I want to help you but there is nothing I can do [Speaker 2] It's too late So Buddha is not like that I see your problem I want to help you [Speaker 1] and Buddha has power [Speaker 2] Ultimate power [Speaker 1] So this is almost like a definition of a Buddha [Speaker 2] Khen Tse Nu They understand what we need [Speaker 1] They want to help us [Speaker 2] and they have power to help us [Speaker 1] Khen Tse Nu Den Den means they possess those three Then this Rinpoche said de she je kyang ngun shakya ga che sewa shi ne So shi ne Buddha as you know was a prince of a clan called Shakya So Shakya is a people who lived in India two and a half thousand years ago and it's a different word from Sakya [Speaker 2] Sakya is a group of teachers from West China, Tibet [Speaker 1] So in the Buddha's time there was a man named Nandaka in the Shakya clan [Speaker 2] Then he died Then [Speaker 1] some people fake teachers they were like we can do a special ritual and Nandaka will come back [Speaker 2] and talk to his family [Speaker 1] They do a special ritual and they put out like [Speaker 2] things to eat, things to drink [Speaker 1] and they invite this [Speaker 2] this dead person to come back [Speaker 1] Okay So, ja su yulpa de shin che de ne dun nam kyi de shakya ga che ngun yin sampa Then a spirit came and start to talk to the family Then Buddha was sitting there and he said wait wait wait This spirit is not the real one This is some other spirit being Then he just pretend to be this person but he is not the person So it means we don't even have power to see spirit But Buddha can see that this spirit is not the spirit he says he is [Speaker 2] It is [Speaker 1] It just means they say that [Speaker 2] the human eye [Speaker 1] can only see like 20% of all the colors and all the kinds of light energy like ultra violet and infra red These are two kinds of light we cannot see and the universe is the same [Speaker 2] What you can see normal person That is about 20% [Speaker 1] 80% of what is happening right around us [Speaker 2] We have no idea [Speaker 1] I was in the ocean yesterday and I used to surf a lot So you are on the surfboard and your legs are in the water Then sometimes I think how many big fish looking at my legs like Mcdonald french fries Then it is better I don't know [Speaker 2] who is down there [Speaker 1] looking at my skinny legs It is better I don't know So maybe 80, 90% of the fish I cannot see [Speaker 2] Then our life is like that What you see the people you see the things you see right around you in this room It is only about 20% and there are many beings in this room [Speaker 1] that we cannot see Maybe it is better we cannot see them because we will go crazy But Buddha can see everything 100% Buddha can see the people building this hotel this room in the hotel I don't know 20 years ago Buddha can see this ballroom fall down maybe 100 years from now [Speaker 2] At the same time [Speaker 1] Then they told another story Then Buddha said everyone should have a small bag like the bag your mala is in The people living in his village they didn't believe he has special power So he told everybody bring a small bag and on it inside you put your family's name and close it in the bag and then they brought [Speaker 2] like 100 bags [Speaker 1] and he is like ok, this one is John this one is Xiaoping's family [Speaker 2] he guessed all of them correctly [Speaker 1] It means he can see past and present and future and also whole universe Then [Speaker 2] your mind has this power now you already have this power [Speaker 1] but you don't know [Speaker 2] you don't know how to use it If you meditate a lot [Speaker 1] you can see many worlds you can see what [Speaker 2] hundreds of years from now [Speaker 1] what's going to happen but if you don't meditate [Speaker 2] everyday [Speaker 1] it's not possible If you keep the vow [Speaker 2] you took this morning [Speaker 1] that will also give you power and you will find you can do things [Speaker 2] which you couldn't do before because now you have power of a vow [Speaker 1] ok ,GZHAN YANG SDUG BA LUNG LAS BYUNG BA LTAR, ,ZHING THAMS CAD MED ROL ZEGS NAS RGYAL TSUL, ,SNANG DU YUN RIM PAR GRUG STE, ,SANGS RGYAS LA BU NA, Then if you took all the trees in Thailand and you made a big fire [Speaker 2] and then you burn them all [Speaker 1] and you have that ashes and you throw it in this ocean [Speaker 2] and you wait for a few days [Speaker 1] like through a big storm and then Buddha will sit on the beach and if a small piece comes in [Speaker 2] he can take it [Speaker 1] and he can say this piece is from the third tree from the left in front of the bottom then somebody said from the top or from the bottom? He said bottom He can see all these things then what karma we did for each thing in this room like this design on the carpet who made that design on the carpet? My seed made [Speaker 2] so [Speaker 1] if you don't like it don't blame the designer every single line [Speaker 2] you made [Speaker 1] and there is no accidents and there is no random there is a reason why each shape is there and each color [Speaker 2] every detail in this room those walls [Speaker 1] they are like I think fake wood or something probably made in Guangzhou Guangzhou make one half of all the world's things I think we should thank Guangzhou it's true then when you see a piece of wood like that [Speaker 2] you go look at all the lines there is a reason why each line is there [Speaker 1] nothing is by accident [Speaker 2] you said something millions of years ago you did something [Speaker 1] and everything you see [Speaker 2] has a purpose [Speaker 1] and if you are sensitive [Speaker 2] there is a message in everything you see [Speaker 1] then it's good sometimes just to sit and look at the wood and what feeling do you get from each line [Speaker 2] or climbing did a dance [Speaker 1] who designed the dance [Speaker 2] you did [Speaker 1] then you have to think why is she doing that movement right now what did I do to make that movement you can be happy I did a good dance this morning like that and only a Buddha can see all the connections only Buddha can tell you 2000 years ago you went like this [Speaker 2] for your mom mom said [Speaker 1] can you do something and you went [Speaker 2] then it created this dance [Speaker 1] only Buddha can see this dance [Speaker 2] you can learn [Speaker 1] so Buddha is very good at separating the karmas this karma made climbing's [Speaker 2] right hand movement [Speaker 1] and this karma made the color of her [Speaker 2] dancing clothes [Speaker 1] and this karma made the color of her hair [Speaker 2] Buddha can divide it [Speaker 1] DER MA ZAD GUS BYAS SU BSTAN PA'I PHYO RTOG DU BYA PHYIR BA THAL BUMS SOGS JI NI YOD PA RIGS RIGS SDUG BSNGAL GYI THUB PA BSTAN PA DANG we talked about that yesterday Buddha has the power to split his body or her body into many parts so you and me, we get stressed out when too many people need us one person is at the door asking one question and the other person is over here and the other person is over there [Speaker 2] if you care enough [Speaker 1] about all the people who need you I think it will force you to learn to split your body [Speaker 2] every mom knows how to do it [Speaker 1] split the body for this kid split the body for this kid keep the husband happy [Speaker 2] keep the mother happy [Speaker 1] but if your love is strong enough it will force you to learn to split your body and everybody in this room has that capability you just have to wake it up GSUNGS KUN DU RGYUD PA'I PHYO RTOG DANG and at the same time you can talk to all those separate people after you split your body and you can speak all those separate languages and you can go inside their mind and decide what's the best thing for them to hear right now and you can do it all at the same time ultimate multitasking so these are called PHYO RTOG PHYO RTOG means miracle Buddha can do miracles then Buddha has this cool ability it's called GCIG RTEN PA'I THUG it means like special miracle ability and I don't know let's say in my room I made a mistake I start to feed the birds [Speaker 2] on the balcony [Speaker 1] then they think my wake up time is the same as their wake up time so like 5.30 they are like then Buddha has a strange special power Buddha can bless the birds to read other people's mind [Speaker 2] Buddha can bless the birds to read other people's mind [Speaker 1] Buddha can go like this and then the bird will go like oh, it's too early you don't want to wake up now [Speaker 2] I'm reading your mind [Speaker 1] you are actually irritated about me I'm so sorry so Buddha has a strange power [Speaker 2] can change the other person's mind for a short time even the ant [Speaker 1] can read the mind of the person and he said one more thing here DE BZHIN BSHAD PA'I THUG BSGOM BSKYANG BSHAD PA and even the ant can read the mind of the Buddha [Speaker 2] if Buddha bless them [Speaker 1] for a short time [Speaker 2] as long as they have the seeds even ant can understand [Speaker 1] what's the Buddha feeling what's the Buddha want [Speaker 2] what's the Buddha feeling [Speaker 1] then Buddha can do opposite can hide their mind [Speaker 2] even from very powerful person [Speaker 1] then you know when I started to study with my Lama I was 22 then I came to help him and some professor came from Washington D.C then he asked my teacher can I learn Abhidharma Kosha from you [Speaker 2] I want to translate the book [Speaker 1] then my teacher said okay then I said please can I sit in the class when you teach the professor [Speaker 2] can I also sit [Speaker 1] and he's like okay [Speaker 2] but you have to make tea all the time you know I said okay and you can't say anything I said okay by the way in January at our new college [Speaker 1] in Arizona U.S we will start DCI teacher training [Speaker 2] with your help [Speaker 1] you gave a lot of money yesterday it's enough for I think about 15 scholarships [Speaker 2] thank you for that [Speaker 1] so we will have 2 courses everyday about 8 hours [Speaker 2] for 10 days [Speaker 1] 5 times a year you can come to learn to be DCI teacher but there's a separate course how to translate the ancient books and anybody can learn [Speaker 2] and then my way of teaching how to translate ancient books [Speaker 1] we have to have a good team we need 200 translators if we have 200 translators we can finish all the important books in 150 years [Speaker 2] 5 generations [Speaker 1] so we need people [Speaker 2] but my way to teach [Speaker 1] I don't do exercises I give you your own ancient book I say let's translate it [Speaker 2] we do it together and then you publish it [Speaker 1] for example Nick just translated a nice short piece by Nagarjuna that's 2000 years old we did it in the coffee shop in Singapore [Speaker 2] and Vietnam so if you come you can translate your own book and then you can teach it so I asked my lama can I sit in the class so I asked my lama can I sit in the class [Speaker 1] he said okay then after about 2 months that professor quit he said this is too difficult then my lama look at me you have to translate then we did it [Speaker 2] we did it for 12 years [Speaker 1] we finished the Abhidharmakosha commentary by first Dalai Lama [Speaker 2] 600 years ago [Speaker 1] then I tell you something [Speaker 2] in that whole book [Speaker 1] how much I understood [Speaker 2] first time [Speaker 1] was about half an hour half an hour out of 12 years really whole book about something it's like level 13 of meditation level 14 level 236 of this meditation [Speaker 2] good translation [Speaker 1] so spiritual things levels of meditation there are hundreds of levels and I have to translate the whole book even though I don't know any of them [Speaker 2] so highest level meditation [Speaker 1] is called bodhisattva se sipa tama means bodhisattva in their last life before they become buddha [Speaker 2] like 10th level bodhisattva what's it like [Speaker 1] I can't you can't understand if we talk for a whole day you can't understand what's the difference level 10, 9, 8, 7 it's impossible [Speaker 2] it's like [Speaker 1] Abhidharma [Speaker 2] I can tell you whole day but you won't really understand [Speaker 1] but unbelievable high bodhisattva then long time ago they learn to read other people's mind but if buddha [Speaker 2] doesn't want them to read his mind [Speaker 1] he just [Speaker 2] close the mind [Speaker 1] okay? so he has these two powers [Speaker 2] if the bird want to see his mind [Speaker 1] then if the 10th level bodhisattva [Speaker 2] want to see his mind he can close it [Speaker 1] then he has another cool power when buddha taught emptiness in this world [Speaker 2] while he's talking about emptiness [Speaker 1] he said Carol what's your friend's name who owns the hotel Hiro so we have a friend in Taichung he owns a hotel then his name is Hiro [Speaker 2] then [Speaker 1] I was going there to teach [Speaker 2] public talk [Speaker 1] and I'm supposed to stay in a hotel which I can afford which is not the size of the bathrooms in this hotel [Speaker 2] then they found out [Speaker 1] I'm coming so when I got to the hotel [Speaker 2] they said [Speaker 1] oh we prepared special room for you on top floor then I went up whole floor you know many rooms like 10 beds 6 bathrooms I tried to pee pee in different bathroom each day sleep in different bed each night sometimes I get lost [Speaker 2] I cannot find the front door [Speaker 1] then I told you the other day I thought [Speaker 2] we should have Dharma teaching here it feels like Amitabha's heaven [Speaker 1] even the clouds are outside so I called all my friends [Speaker 2] we had special teaching there [Speaker 1] so Buddha has [Speaker 2] this power [Speaker 1] when Buddha wants to teach something like emptiness [Speaker 2] it can go like this [Speaker 1] and the whole room will become top floor of heroes hotel [Speaker 2] it has this power [Speaker 1] during the teaching on emptiness Buddha has power to change the room into Buddha paradise for everybody [Speaker 2] temporarily [Speaker 1] of course then I have to go back home [Speaker 2] small house ok but Buddha has this power [Speaker 1] I think you can feel [Speaker 2] in this room when we talk about emptiness [Speaker 1] because emptiness is so holy [Speaker 2] or when we take vow [Speaker 1] you can little bit feel the room is changing this morning feel little bit like [Speaker 2] Buddha paradise [Speaker 1] ok, so that's coming from your seeds ok now we reached khen tse tse means so what is the love of a Buddha what is it like some people get so upset sometimes they even want to kill themselves yu kyi dro nam bu dang drawa dak gong ne so some people about themselves [Speaker 2] they even hate themselves [Speaker 1] they have no love for themselves but you Buddha [Speaker 2] how you feel about other people it's like they are your children [Speaker 1] this is my own son [Speaker 2] this is my own daughter [Speaker 1] you have this amazing love you love us more than we love ourselves the day my mom died then I thought suddenly something happened to me now I am really alone she loves me more than I love myself so Buddha is like that [Speaker 2] for everybody ok [Speaker 1] drawa dak gong ne no gyur chak tsam thuk kye gong pa rim po shik ne dangway na dang dra lang la tsewa de kyang khe tuk nyi je chak mi pot then even people who try to hurt Buddha Buddha just love them more and basically the love that a person has for themselves is the most powerful love in the world we love ourselves more than anything one night I had a dream about my brother so he's had three children and I dreamt I was with him and he was looking down at one of his babies and I was inside his mind and I felt his love for the baby so I haven't had any children myself [Speaker 2] so I don't know how it feels but in the dream I was inside of him [Speaker 1] and I was looking at the baby [Speaker 2] and it's a strong, strong love [Speaker 1] his own baby [Speaker 2] but it's mixed up [Speaker 1] with love for himself because baby looks like him and then those parents don't have that kind of love for the neighbor's baby they only love their own baby and I think partly because it looks like them [Speaker 2] so that love for ourselves for each person for all of us me too [Speaker 1] self love is the strongest [Speaker 2] Buddha [Speaker 1] here it says chak mi pot chak mi pot means the love you have even for yourself is not 1% of Buddha's love [Speaker 2] for you [Speaker 1] for everybody Buddha's love for everybody hundred times, thousand times stronger than the love you have for yourself [Speaker 2] hundreds of millions, billions of times [Speaker 1] sanggye gyi sem chen la tseway chak she tsang la dun dun me la yang dung dang chen gyi sem chen tong na kye la mi tong na mi kye way pa drip ren gyal way nying je then we feel love for people when they are around us you know, so if we love somebody and they are in our room [Speaker 2] then the love gets stronger [Speaker 1] and then if we don't see them for a few weeks we start to forget about them so during these ten days we are all together you are thinking a lot about Geshe Michael I am thinking a lot about Ben and Uta and Ruby but when I go home [Speaker 2] I will be busy [Speaker 1] and I don't think about everybody else so much [Speaker 2] so human love [Speaker 1] when the real person is nearby [Speaker 2] and [Speaker 1] we think about them we love them a lot [Speaker 2] then when we go home we are so busy [Speaker 1] we can't think about everybody [Speaker 2] then we think about people in our home [Speaker 1] sometimes you will think about Geshe Michael or Ben or Ruby but mostly you think about the people around you [Speaker 2] and that's natural [Speaker 1] natural [Speaker 2] it's ok it's impossible to think about everybody all the time we don't have capacity to do that but Buddha [Speaker 1] love everybody whether they are close or whether they are going somewhere far away [Speaker 2] so whether they are close or far away they love you so that love doesn't matter about the person being close [Speaker 1] love for every [Speaker 2] living being close or not [Speaker 1] equal [Speaker 2] love [Speaker 1] ok Buddha I think we stop there
