We will do from the book, and second half hour, we will do questions. So, Nick and friends, you have to have microphone ready at 5 o'clock, and you guys have to have some tough questions ready at 5 o'clock. Okay?

Alright, so far the questions are very good. Thank you. Okay, we talked about the amazing qualities of a Buddha's body.

They can even give teaching with their fingernail. And with this bump, they can see the whole universe. So, now we start the qualities of how Buddha talks.

And thank you for the beautiful song. It's really nice. ,GNYIS PA GSUNGS KYI YON TE NI, ,LAS BRAL CHU DANG BRTAN PA STE, ,MTSOR NI RGYUD LAS, So, when people talk about how a Buddha talks, they talk about the sixty qualities of a Then in DCI level 8, I teach all of them.

It takes a few days. Okay, what are we going to do in Taiwan level 8? What month?

What month? In March, we will do in Taiwan, together with special teaching on Diamond Cutter Sutra by Kamalashila. And some of that we will do tonight.

,GSUNGS GCIG MTSOR NI RGYUD LAS, But the single most important quality of Buddha's speech is described in the secret teachings. ,GSUNGS GCIG GNYIS DU GSUNGS GYUR GYANG, ,DU MA GNYIS DU SOGS SON NAMS, So, even though Buddha only say one thing, it appears different to each person. Then, what's that mean?

,DEN PA PO'I LUS LAS GSUNGS PA LTAR, ,BYANG DGUN MTSONGS KHA BA CHEN PO'I KYANG, And Tsongkhapa also described this. Following a special section of scripture called the chapter of the person who speaks the truth. ,'JIG RTEN KUN GYI SEMS CAN THAMS CAD KYIS, ,'THUGS GCIG GNYIS DU THET TSUM CING ZHUGS KYANG, ,DE DAG RE RE DUNG DU'ANG DE NYES KYIS, ,GUS DANG GSUNGS KYI DGOS PA THUGS GCIG DU, ,DZAD PA RDZAD KYANG RTOGS PA NYER ZHING BA, ,'JIG RTEN KUN GYIS, So, that's a special poem.

,'JIG RTEN KUN GYI SEMS CAN, THAMS CAD means everybody in the whole universe. ,'THUGS GCIG GNYIS DU THET TSUM CING ZHUGS KYANG, They can separately ask different questions about what they're not sure about. ,'THUGS GCIG GNYIS DU means at the same time.

And then, ,DE DAG RE RE DUNG DU'ANG DE NYES KYIS, and then Buddha will appear in front of each one. It doesn't matter how many there are. ,GUS DANG GSUNGS KYI DGOS PA THUGS GCIG DU, And body will appear, but also talking will appear separately to each person who asks a question at the same time.

,ZAD PA RDZAD, Then Buddha has the power to answer each different question of each different person at the same time, even if a million people ask the question at the same time. We're not going to try it today. ,RDZAD KYANG RTOGS PA GNYER ZHES BA, Buddha doesn't have to think about it to give an answer to a million people at the same time.

During that answer, Buddha is not thinking about the answer. We call it ,GSUNGS KYI GDUG PA. ,GSUNGS KYI GDUG PA means automatic.

Buddha's karma is so powerful that he or she doesn't have to think about it. If a million people ask a question at the same time, a million Buddhas will appear in front of each person, one Buddha, and they will give a different answer to each person. But during that answer, Buddha doesn't have to think about it.

It's automatic. If you go in the toilet, and you do your important job, then you finish, and you go to wash your hands. Then someone, when you move in front of the mirror, somebody will jump in the mirror.

You don't have to say, please, could you get in the mirror, please? Your face will show in the mirror. You don't have to say, please, face, can you be in the mirror?

When a Buddha teaches, it's the same. Each person is like a mirror, and Buddha will appear in front of them. It's automatic.

He doesn't have to think about it. Okay, cool. He or she doesn't have to think about it.

Somebody asked me, in Buddhism, most teachers are men or most teachers are women? In the lower teachings, open teachings, historically, man is giving more of them. In the higher teachings, the most famous and the best teachers are all women.

Okay, and Buddhists are like that. Okay. SHES RDO BA NA TSOGS PA'I PHYI BA MIN BDAG BA MANG PO'I THU GCIG TU ZHUGS KYANG Even if, you know, hundreds of people ask different questions at the same time, DE BZHIN SHES PA'I GSUNGS GCIG GI, the Buddha's mouth will open and the Buddha will say one thing.

And RDO BA SOGS SU SKAD DU, then the one thing Buddha says, each person will hear in their own language. Russians will hear Russian language. RTLA RUGS KYI BUDDHA'I PA RUGS KYI.

Okay, automatic. It will be automatic. Then the Chinese people will hear Chinese.

And American people will hear American. Okay, Buddha just say one thing, and each person hear their own language. Okay, SOGS SU SKAD DU, SOGS SU DBANG PO DANG TZAM BAR, not only that, different people need different answers.

Some people very sharp. Some people medium. Some people ate too much lunch and they are sleepy.

Then Buddha has to adjust the answer for each person. So here it says DBANG PO DANG TZAM BAR means to fit their capacity. He will answer all those questions at the same time.

He will give one answer. Each person will hear their own language, and the answer will fit their level. YUM DGE'I RING DUS SUM YANG PHYIR GCIG DU GSUM PA Then there are nine hundred and ninety books left from ancient India which Buddha spoke.

Almost 1,000. There are 3,700 books written in India by later wise people. So, about 5,000 books which were written for 1,500 years until Buddhism disappeared in India.

Okay. Then, John Brady, where are you? He's at the beach I guess.

Anyway, his project, they worked for 25 years. They finished all those books. They are free online.

Okay. Then, among those books, there's a Boroboromido. Boroboromido.

In Sanskrit we say Prajnaparamita. Perfection of Wisdom. Buddha taught many Perfection of Wisdom.

One has 100,000 lines. One is called 20,000, but it has 25,000 lines. One has 8,000 lines.

Then, beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, one called Xinjing. Okay, now interesting. The 100,000 line, 20,000 line, 25,000, and 8,000 line, Buddha spoke them at the same time.

Three different books. Du je wang gyi gengding du sim du chungwa tabu yin. Why?

Because some student want to go to the beach. So, for them, Buddha made short. Some people want to hear more.

Then, Buddha made long, at the same time. Okay, and we still have them. They're very beautiful.

Someday we should read them. Especially the 8,000 verses. de yang thag nye ring me par kun du khowa shik yin te.

Then, there's another interesting thing about Buddha's teaching. It doesn't matter if you sit next to them, or you sit in your room, or you go home to Guangzhou, or Beijing, or Taichung. Okay, it doesn't matter.

It doesn't matter. You will hear the same, like Buddha's is sitting next to you. Buddha has automatic, amazing microphone system.

Okay, if you have a seat, it doesn't matter where you go. This world, or another world. When the Buddha speaks, you will hear that thing as if the Buddha was sitting next to you.

sangwa sanggye mikyapay dor. Then, again, he quotes a sutra called the Inconceivable Secret. mawd gyal gyi phu sanggye gyi sung gi tseg tope chur dzu chuk gi drul de shing kham mangpo gyel yang da dung chung na nyepar jitawa shing du ther te sung gi tseg ma togpar sungpa dang Then, in that sutra, it says, a Buddha's student named Maudgalyayana, he wants to see, okay, how far away can I hear Buddha talking?

And Maudgalyayana is special. He has power to go to other planets. So, first he went to the back of the room.

Sounds the same. Then, he went outside. Sounds the same.

Then, he went to Phuket Airport. Sounds the same. Then, he went to Moscow, or he went to Berlin.

Sounds the same. Then, he said, okay, he went many, many planets away. Still sounds the same.

Then, in these stories, the guy always gets tired, and he comes home, and he says, I don't know how far it goes. And then, Pabongka Rinpoche quotes a famous poem. It's called 150 Verses in Praise of Buddha.

kye she dang dang na rab dukpa de le nyen la nyenpa yi sung di dak ni dakwa le der tsul tsakpa shing du jung When we look at your face, we see something beautiful. When we listen to you talk, we hear something beautiful. When you talk, it's like deathless honey dripping from the moon.

kyu kyi sung gi dukja kyi dul rab shing tse char ten dra she dang du ni yungwa la nam ka ding dang drawa la kyu kyi sung gi dukja kyi dul rab shing tse char ten dra In India, in the old days, they teach everybody sit down on the ground. Like under a tree. And then, it will be dusty.

So, one student has a job, before the class, they take water, and they sprinkle everywhere. And then the dust will stay down. Then, this poem writer said, dust comes up in our heart.

The dust name is called desire. Then, when you talk, each word is like a drop of water. And it keeps our desire down.

Then, she dang dul means anger like a snake. Then, if you ever saw the flag of Mexico, I heard this story, that some of the first people in Mexico, I don't know if it's true, it's told to me by people from Jalisco. They said, Geshe-la, actually most great people in Mexico come from Jalisco.

This is near the Pacific Ocean on the west side. Then, like thousand years ago, there, a wise man got a special message. Everyone should move to the middle of Mexico.

Like thousand miles. Then, the wise man said, why? Don't ask me questions.

Just go. Then, how far should we go? Keep walking until you find, how many legs, nine legs or seven legs, I forgot.

Twelve, anyway. Anyway. Then, when you see many legs, you will also see an eagle.

And they are eating a snake. When you see that, you stop. And make a new city.

So, that's how Mexico City got started. Two largest cities in the world. Guangzhou and Mexico City.

Okay, and that's how Mexico City started. Then recently, we were driving in Arizona, also during my three year retreat. I saw a big eagle.

And we had many rattlesnakes, poisonous snakes. Some of them almost as big as this stage. And that eagle can come down and grab the snake.

And I don't know, they don't feel poison or something. And they can carry the snake away. I saw it, Scott also saw one, I think.

Yeah, so he says here, there is a special Buddhist bird. We call Garuda. Then, he likes to eat the snake.

So, in the middle of the Wheel of Life, what is meaning of snake? Yeah, anger. So, in this poem, they say, Buddha, your words, they are like the eagle who eats the snake.

Okay. yang dang yang du mi she pa'i rab rib jung pa'i duk dang dra Your words are like the sun. And when they touch our mind, the darkness goes away.

nga gyal riwo ngun jung pa'i dorje dang yang drawa lak Also, your words are like a diamond. When they touch the mountain of my pride, they destroy it. dun zikpe ni mi luwa nongpa mi nga chir jes tun lepar charway ko la te kyu kyi sung ni lek sung den When you talk, your words are always correct.

Because you saw ultimate reality. And they are always consistent with each other. What you say on Monday always match what you say on Tuesday.

lekpar charway And also, when you choose your words, they are very beautiful. So, you're just amazing speaker, Lord Buddha. re shik dangpor kyu kyi sung nyenpa nang gi yi trung je de ne yi la sam gyi na dur chok tu mun nang kyang tsel In the beginning, when you start to speak, it's so sweet.

And we just enjoy listening to you. Then when we go home, and we think about what you said, it removes all of our desire, all of our ignorance. pongpa nam kyi uc jin shing bhakmey nam kyi khyab kyang je dewa chen dak gyo kyi pe khyur sung kun dang tsangpar juk What you say fits everybody in the audience.

Those people having trouble in their life, financial problem, family problem, when you teach them, uc jin is a famous idiom in Tibetan. I'll show you uc jin. Like, you breathe relief.

So, after you teach people, people have financial problem, people have husband problem, then after you teach them, people understand what to do when the husband says, You are a fan tong. Then they feel relaxed. Thank you.

Now I know what to do. Call him fan tong, right? No.

Okay, bhakmey nam kyi khyab kyang je Even people who are little bit like drinking or not very careful, you protect them. You guys feeling hot? How many people feel hot?

You want us to freeze you? Yeah? Okay, Tim, where are you?

He is with John on the beach, I think. Okay, Earl is going to try. We'll try to turn on the air conditioner for you.

bhakmey nam kyi khyab kyang je dewa chen tak gyur gyi pe Then some people just like to watch movie, like to watch internet. Then those people, Buddha will calm them down. Please don't waste your time watching internet all day.

gyur sung kun dang tsampa jok Everything you say fits different people at the same time. khyepa nam kyi gawa kye pharma nam kyi lo yang pa dharma rabpa nam jompe sung di kyewa kun la men khyepa nam kyi gawa kye means when wise people hear you talk, they are like cool. He is perfect.

Then middle people, they are like, wow, he gave me new idea. Then lowest intelligent people, then they are like this, gong shing Then Buddha talk, gong shing Then suddenly they understand. So Buddha's talk has this ability.

kyewa kun la men means when you talk, you help different people at different levels at the same time. she sungpa tar dang de tsam du ma se sung gi kyang ku tu ku tu kyi chawa dze pa sok sung gi sangwa la ta me pa yin sung Not only that, when Buddha talks, the words can do what the Buddha's body does. And the words can see the whole universe like the Buddha's mind.

The words can see the universe. The words can help people all over the world. Like hands.

So Buddha's talking, and Buddha's doing, and Buddha's thinking, all mixed up. Crazy. Like, I don't know, Buddha wants to make a cup of coffee.

Buddha can say, ka fe And that word will make the coffee. Ok, I understand. That word will also, the word will see the universe.

When Buddha say ka fe, the word ka fe can see all the ka fes on different worlds in the whole universe. Ok? Very unbelievable.

Ok, let's do a little bit more about Buddha's mind, and then I'll take some questions. sung pa tu kyi yun den ni gye par na shung che mo le shepa tar top chu dang ma der pa chok kye sok sag me yashid de tsen nyer chik gi yun den nam shepa che ching What are the qualities of the Buddha's mind? If you want to know the details, you must study the great books.

In those books, you can find about the ten powers of a Buddha. Then there are eighteen unique qualities. There are twenty one different groups of qualities of the Buddha's wisdom.

Then he said, if you want to know them, you go study those books. If we try to do it this week, we can't finish. So he said, you go read those big books.

shung che mo le shepa tar tsam zay pa dak gi kyang de dak ne gya ched tenpa nam dir pen togpa che ne sam gu Then even those people who do have time to go read those books, should try, go study them, and you can learn about the different qualities of Buddha. Dorduna. Dorduna?

Sorry. Let me summarize them for you. KHYEN TZE YON TAN GNYIS.

You can divide it into knowledge and love. All the qualities of the dorduna, you can divide into knowledge and love. KHYEN PAS NI JI LTA BA LA NYAM PAR BZHAG BZHIN DU, ZHES BYA RGYAS NYE THAMS CAD LA LHAG TU LUS KYIS RGYU ROL RA BZHAG PA BZHIN GYEN CING SRID PA YIN TE So, when a Buddha is meditating about emptiness, with her eyes closed or his eyes closed, at the same time, she or he can see all the things that are happening on every planet in the universe at the same time.

Then there's a thing called RGYU ROL RA. It's an olive. Then, when you put an olive in your hand, like if you put your cell phone in your hand, it's not difficult to see.

Buddha can see what's happening in every country, in every house, at the same time, like you can see your cell phone in your hand. SNGAGS LTOS PA LAS. Then again, the Lama took a poem.

CHOM LDAN DU KUN RTOGS PA'I PHYIR RNAM KUN BYUNG NAS THAMS CAD NI, LHAG LTOS RGYU ROL RA LTA BUR GYUR GYI THUGS KYI CHUR RYUD GYUR. You are the Buddha. You can see all things.

And you can see RNAM KUN BYUNG NAS THAMS CAD NI, and you can see where they come from, like a cell phone in your hand. CHOS RNAM YOD DANG MI YOR GCIG DANG, LHAG LTOS SO SOGS LA, KHA LA SNGUNG DAG GYUR BA'I BZHIN, GYUR GYI THUGS DAG THOGS MI NGA, you can see all the things which are moving or not moving. That's an old Buddhist expression.

Not moving means the world. Moving means all the people. So, it means you can see all the places, and you can see all the people at the same time.

GCIG DANG LHAG LTOS SO SOGS LA, you can see one thing, or you can see many things at the same time. When the wind blows across the sky, nothing can stop it. Okay?

The sky is not going to stop the wind. That cannot stop. The Sanskrit word for that is what?

ASANGA. Word is my human dictionary, thank you. Yeah, yeah.

In Sanskrit language, ASANGA. When the wind wants to blow across the high sky, nothing can slow it down. And when the Buddha wants to see anything in the universe, her mind or his mind can go through anything.

It doesn't even slow down. Okay? Then we're going to stop there, and if you have any questions, we'll take about half an hour on questions.

When I was in Tibet, there was a monk who killed himself for the truth. You say it.

[Speaker 2]
Yes. Okay.

[Speaker 1]
If you can choose not to kill yourself, would you choose not to kill yourself? So, teacher, you mentioned that you used to do some killing for the truth. For making food for the monks, you mentioned that.

So, I believe that if you have an option not to do that, you would do that. But if you did it for higher purpose in the future, how did yourself digest this action of killing? Good.

Okay. So, for many years, I was the cook for eight years. Then I, during that time, I gave up meat.

I stopped eating meat. About, I don't know, about over 30 years ago. But I'm still the cook, and still I have to cook for some other monks.

Then I'm the youngest monk. Then I, one of those monks is my teacher. Then I'm thinking like that, I'm a younger monk.

He is my teacher. Then I don't know why he eat meat. Maybe he has some special power.

They say some Lama has a power to eat meat, and take the mind of that animal and put it in Amitabha's heaven. Then I don't know if my Lama has this power or not. Honestly, I cannot see in my Lama's mind.

But I can see in my mind, that I don't have this power. So I thought, it's better I don't eat the meat. And if my Lama ask me to cook meat, I will cook.

I didn't kill any animals. But monks ask me to cook meat, and I cook meat. And sometimes my Lama, he is a little tough with me.

Actually all the time he is tough with me. Sometimes, boom! But I love him very much.

And we live together for 25 years. And I think he is the greatest Lama in this world. He saved my life.

Gave me life. So, sometimes his friends will come to visit. Then he will introduce me.

This is my student Michael. He call me Mike. He said, he gave up meat, but he didn't give up his negative emotions.

Then he will make fun of me. That I gave up meat. Then when my Lama got quite old, about 80 years old, he got small problem in his body.

And small pre-cancer. Pre-cancer. Can become cancer if you don't cut it.

So I took him to the hospital. He stayed several days. And they cut this from his body.

Then I had a meeting with the doctor. Then I said, should I change my Lama's diet? Should I cook different food?

He is pretty cool doctor. He said, your Lama live to 80 years old. He is still very strong.

Let him eat what he wants to eat. Then I said, ok. Then we went home.

I cooked usual dinner. And I took to Lama. He said, this has meat.

I said, yeah, you are eating meat. I am cooking for you for many years. You are eating meat everyday.

He said, I don't want to eat meat. Don't give me meat anymore. So he stopped.

Then I thought, he is playing with me for many years. Just pretend to eat meat. Doesn't need to eat meat.

Doesn't want to eat meat. Somebody bought him television. He is watching television.

In the evening. Then I said, I want to watch television. You are a monk, you cannot watch television.

Ok, Lama. Sometimes I will make tea for him. I will wait till he is watching TV.

Then I will give him the tea. Then quietly I will sit down. Watch TV.

Then sometimes it is a police show. The best ones come from Hong Kong. Then they are shooting.

We are just about to find out who killed the guy. For one hour, detective is checking everybody. I am American.

I can feel, in the next minute, we are going to find out who killed the guy. Then my Lama said, you can turn it off now. Then I went, wait, one minute.

Just one minute. He is like, why? We almost find out who killed the guy.

He said, what are you talking about? I said, one hour they will find out who killed the guy. He said, oh really?

Then I thought, actually he is just doing mantra. And he just turned on the TV to make me feel comfortable. So with the Lama, eat meat, watch TV, I cannot judge he is a Buddha or he is not Buddha.

I don't know. So what Lama do, I have to little bit separate in my mind. But myself, I know I shouldn't eat meat or watch TV.

So with Lama, we have to be careful. We don't really know what they are doing. If you are Arya, you can see 500 years into the future.

And you saw the face of every living being in the universe. Then what those people do, why they do what they do, we cannot guess. So near those people, we have to be careful.

We don't know what's their plan. So that's the answer. Thank you.

By the way, Peter, Maria, I did what you needed and Hasso has it. Okay?

[Speaker 2]
Good afternoon Geshe Michael. I now get my result and plant the seed at the same time. Impossible.

Impossible?

[Speaker 1]
You can get just after but not exactly the same. Just kidding.

[Speaker 2]
Was I the elephant or the people in the story of Asian books that I am now listening, learning, teaching again and again and again in the past life, present and future of me until my bad seeds all away?

[Speaker 1]
Can you repeat in Chinese? Your question. Cantonese?

You can speak Cantonese. Okay. I don't understand what she is saying.

[Speaker 2]
I mean, is it possible that I am the main character of the story and I am now listening to my own story and at the same time I am teaching myself and learning and listening and in the past life a long time ago I am now and in the future I am repeating and maybe every time I will learn something new until all my bad seeds all away and then I can start. Thank you.

[Speaker 1]
I didn't understand it. Chinese means that I feel like when I am listening to these stories, the classic stories, I feel like I am the main character of the story and in the past, now and in the future I am repeating until all my bad seeds all away. So my question is really like so now I am learning and listening to a lot of ancient stories and ancient teachings.

I feel like I used to be the character in those stories like in my past life and now I am learning about my past life which means now I am in a present story. In the future I will experience similar things. It's like repetition but each time like from past to present to future, I will learn something new until I get rid of all my negative seeds.

That's correct. If you hear if I tell you a story from ancient book, the reason you heard that story is very possible you were in that story hundreds of years ago and the reason you hear the story is because before it put seeds in your mind and now you heard the story. I owe you one more story.

The guy who tried to poison the Buddha and burn him maybe tomorrow it's a long sutra but in the story Buddha often tells a story he will often he told the story about tiger mommy tiger had four babies then she couldn't find anything to eat and she lay down she cannot give them milk and she was dying and then some prince came through the forest and saw the mommy tiger then cannot feed her four babies then he got some strange idea like I will give my body to tiger so she can give milk to her babies and he lay down next to tiger she doesn't have the strength to eat him then he took off all his clothes he broke a tree branch and he cut his arm open then put it in front of her mouth then she drink his blood then she got strong and ate him and while he is dying he made a prayer if you drink my blood if you eat my flesh then you must become my student in the future I also do this by the way I also go to McDonald's sometimes I just buy the french fry then I go outside I eat the french fry and I give little bit to birds then I say if you eat my french fry you have to become my student I make a prayer give them french fry so those five people the four babies and the mom they became the five students that Buddha taught the first time Buddha taught in this world so if you meditate a lot you can see your past life you can see our connection why do we have connection we did together many things we did some very powerful good karma together so we get to be together we get to study this holy Dharma together so we have known each other for many lifetimes and you are correct each lifetime we try to improve more until we become Buddha together ok, other question

[Speaker 2]
Dear Geshe-la I have been studying this system from 2015 and I keep practicing for nearly two years and a lot of things change now I have one question is I set two goals for myself one is to be a successful example to help others one is to see emptiness directly but as I don't know my processes I don't know when the days will come so everyday when I go to work I don't know whether I still fight one day to try to influence others or I just stay at home and do meditation and do studying by myself if the only way is to find a Dharma to see emptiness directly so I also need some time to find a Dharma so how should I arrange my life properly to how long for example for 20 years I need to be a successful example in the society and for the next 20 years I need to learn by my Dharma so how could I arrange my life properly in the future because I really feel we cannot control this so thank you

[Speaker 1]
... ... ...

... ... ...

... ... ...

... ... ...

... ... ...

... ... ...

... ... ...

... ... ...

then it's funny when you're in retreat ... ... ...

I did three retreats from 2000 to 2003. It feels a little bit strange. You are meditating all day.

You are praying. I would like to help many people, but I'm stuck in this room. There's no people to help.

In my retreat, I used to go outside. I feel very lonely. I have an ant colony in front of my cabin, and I'm so lonely, I will watch the ants.

I'm like, do you need any help? No. I just want to help somebody, you know.

There was a big stone near the ant colony. Flat stone. Then, all the ants come to the stone, and they will walk around.

Then I got uncomfortable, you know. I'm like, just go over the stone. It's closer.

Sometimes I will try to help them, you know. Then they are like, ah! They run everywhere.

Then I feel frustrated, you know. I have to stay here for three years, you know. I don't get to help anybody, you know.

So, I decided the purpose of retreat is to prepare yourself to help other people. Then, when I finished the Geshe, my Lama said, okay, now you start business. Then I'm like, Lama, I don't want to do business.

Business people are most dishonest people. I don't want to start business. Then he said, start a business.

Before I met him, he had a car accident, and that hit his throat. Whenever he talked, he talked like Star Wars. It's time you have to start a business.

Lama, I don't want to start a business. That's why I came to monastery. I don't care.

You have to start business. Then you are not supposed to say no to your Lama. So, I developed a different method.

It's called delay until Lama forget. So, he said, are you going to start a business? Yeah, I'm making plan.

Then I don't talk about it for two months. Then he'll say, do you remember I told you to start a business? I said, oh no, he remembered.

Then finally, I have to start a business. I really didn't want to, and I felt a little bit angry. I just want to meditate, study.

I really enjoy meditation and study. I don't enjoy business, and I don't need money. My grandmother was very wealthy.

When she died, she gave me a lot of money. So, I don't have to go to work. I said, Lama, I don't have to go to work.

Go to work, I told you. Yeah, okay. Lama can see all future time, because Lama is all Buddhas in one body.

I believe that. I don't always do the right thing, and sometimes I feel angry, secretly. I never yelled at my Lama in 25 years.

I never said really bad words, but in my heart, Why you ask me to go to work, business? But I did it, as karma checking experiment. Does karma work or not?

Is the four steps true? Just for experiment. And because of that experience, now we have DCI in 22 countries.

And every year, 15,000 to 20,000 people come. If I didn't start a business, if I didn't listen to Lama, I would be okay, I would be happy in a small monastery, living quietly, meditation, study, but I won't have that experience of how to teach, how to talk, how to meet people, and it will be like I'm sitting and trying to help ants, because I don't have chance to help people. So now, I look back, and I think, oh, my Lama was very wise.

Lama made me balance my work and my meditation, spiritual life and world life. Then it's difficult for everybody, not just you, every person here. We always feel, oh, maybe I'm ...

balance is wrong. Maybe I meditate too much. Maybe I do too much business.

What's a correct balance? When you find a balance, work, life, become spiritual life. All day, you can meditate in the work.

You see what I mean? Then work life doesn't become separate from spiritual life. They come together.

When I was working, I have business partner, his name Ofer, from Israel. Then sometimes I get confused, he's my Lama or he's my boss? Sometimes he yells at me, I say, yes Lama, yes Ofer.

Then sometimes I go home, my Lama yells at me, I say, yes Ofer, yes Ofer. Then I'm getting confused, who's Lama, who's boss? Then one day I decided, my work boss is Yamantaka.

He's very suspicious. Then finally I decided, he's also Buddha. When I go home, Buddha take care of me.

When I go to work, Buddha take care of me. So I encourage you, family life, work life, spiritual life, it will be stressful. I'm sorry.

It will be stressful for one, two, three years. You'll feel guilty. Oh, I don't spend enough time with my kids.

Or, I spend too much time in the lam rim retreat. Or, yesterday I stayed late at work. Maybe I'm bad mother.

You will have those doubts. How to fix it? Make everything spiritual life.

When a husband gets angry, use it for kong shing meditation. When kids are bad, use it for kong shing meditation. When the business start to fail, use it for kong shing meditation.

As long as your worldly life and your spiritual life are separate, you are not understanding kong shing. Now, saying that, it's still true, you need more study. You should try to come to as much lam rim as you can.

Without hurting your family, and without losing your job, you should come as much as possible. And then every year, several times, try to do retreat. Okay?

Maybe two days. Maybe three days. Stay quiet.

Stay in one room. Or, go to the countryside, and do a retreat. Three days.

Five days. Ten days. Okay?

And find the balance. You cannot see emptiness directly if you don't meditate pretty seriously every day. It's not possible.

Not possible. Okay? So, you have to arrange your life.

Maybe get up early. You must meditate every day. But as we said many times, don't bother other people with your dharma.

Okay? You have family commitments. You have to make money.

So, you have to honor those commitments. If you break the commitment to your family, and if you break the commitment to your job, later you will break your commitment to Buddhism. I saw it many times.

Buddhist person respect their commitment to their family. Respect commitment to support, make money, and keep their practice. Okay?

Thank you.
