[Speaker 1] Okay, we'll start. So, I don't know, recently I got a new doctor. For many years I didn't have a doctor for many years. My friends told me, you need a doctor. So, I got a nice one, and I went to her for about a year. She's very interesting. She's MD, medical doctor, but she also knows natural medicine. So, she studied for many years, and she's a good person, and she has two beautiful children. Then, recently I went to see her, and she said, I have to tell you something. I said, what? And she said, I'm quitting. I don't want to be a doctor. Then I said, why? And her husband killed himself. Suddenly, no warning. Then it hurt me a lot. I feel almost crazy. So, I'm depending on this person. And I spent a lot of money. She gave me many tests and many kinds of vitamins. Then in my mind, I thought, oh, she's really special. And she's so wise, and she knows so much about natural medicine and technical medicine. And such a nice person. Then I thought, must be her life is perfect. Because in America, a doctor also makes a lot of money. She has a very big house, beautiful house, which I helped to pay for. And then she's going to sell her house, and kids are also moving away. Everything finished like that. And I was so surprised, because she's not very old. So, when we are depending on someone to help us, and then suddenly, we find out they also need help. Then it's kind of shocking. So, we're going to do a meditation. This is called jikpa le druwa in Buddhism. It means we have to find some protection of a person who is free of problems themselves. So, I think let's start with your doctor. The person who's your doctor. And when you get sick, of course, first thing you do is you call this person. In America, if it's a big emergency, you can see them in six weeks. Then they will call us. So, we're going to meditate about your doctor, or some doctor who served you in your life. And I just want you, in the meditation, I want you to get the feeling that this person is not number one protection. It's just sometimes protection. But not steady. And they can fail anytime. And then the three jewels, they're not like that. Cannot fail. Never. So, I want you to feel the difference. Okay, ready? Let's meditate. It's the next picture in your book. Nice Singapore lady soldier. Not afraid of anybody. Okay, here we go. So, don't forget to turn off your cell phone, please. I will also do. And if you have to cough, cough now. Good. And then settle in your meditation. Relax your mouth. Watch the corners of your mouth and relax them. You should relax them all the time. If you don't, when you reach fifty, you will look grumpy. So, relax your mouth corners. Small smile. All the time. Pull in your stomach a little bit. Focus on your fingers and relax them. Try to relax your forehead and when you start meditating, don't wrinkle it again. Eyelids relax. Then there's a special way to breathe if you'd like to try. Right now, we are breathing through our nose. And I'd like you to change. Focus on the place between your eyebrows. Go up just like a centimeter. And then go about three millimeters into your head. So, you are focusing on the area we call third eye. And you have to move your focus around that place until you find the special spot. And when you find it, it feels like your concentration is stronger. So, let's take a minute and you try different places in your forehead and try to find the good spot. And now, I'd like you to pretend that you are breathing through that hole. You are not breathing through your nose. So, just pretend you are breathing through the spot between your eyebrows and up a little bit. We'll take a few minutes here. Just breathe. Now, I'd like you to think about your doctor, if you have a doctor. Now, I'd like you to think about your doctor, if you have a doctor. Their job is to protect your health. And then, ask yourself a question. Is it possible they could get sick? Or even die? Then, try to imagine a doctor who cannot get sick. Then, try to imagine a doctor who cannot get sick. Whose body is made of light and emptiness. They have two arms and two legs. Beautiful, beautiful body. Made of light. They cannot get sick. Cannot get old. Cannot die. This is a Buddha. If you cut them open, inside, you will only find like a blue sky. [Speaker 2] So, we'll spend a few minutes. Think about this Buddha doctor. [Speaker 1] Cannot die. Always happy. Made of sky. Then, slowly come back to your breath. Take three deep breaths. Then, you can open your eyes. Take a stretch. Take a stretch. [Speaker 2] Okay, good. [Speaker 1] So, that's the third meditation in your book. I chose a woman soldier who is not afraid of anything. But, what I want you to feel from the meditation, all the people you ask for help in your normal life, doctor, lawyer, police, fireman, they have their own problems. They also need protection. When I was, I don't know, 16 years old, so, my dad, when he was growing up, he lived in a forest in Michigan. And, he grew up with a gun. And, they used to kill deers. And, they will eat deer meat. So, my whole childhood, he is teaching us to use guns. So, we start with a small gun. And, bigger gun. And then, finally, very big rifle, very powerful. Then, when I was, I don't know, 16, 17, he said, okay, we are going hunting. You know? He is very big, strong man. And, I remember, it was snowing. And, we have these powerful guns. And, together, we climbed up a pretty high mountain. Then, the way you hunt for deer, you don't walk and look for them. Because, they can hear everything. From like half a mile, they can hear you. Even if you walk very quietly. So, really, the way hunters hunt, you find a tree. And, you just sit there. Like this. And, you try not to move. For like two, three hours. And, you cannot move. Because, they will hear you. So, we sit down. It's snowing. We are holding gun like this. Then, you are just supposed to watch like this. Then, I am waiting like one or two hours. Then, suddenly, my father stood up. You know? I am like, why he stand up? Then, he start to spin with his gun, you know, in a circle. Then, I am like, what's he doing here? Then, suddenly, he fell down. And, start to roll down the mountain. And, he is very big man. I am just kid, you know? Then, I am like, wow! And, I run after him, you know? He is rolling off a big mountain. And then, finally, I catch him. Try to hold him, you know? And, I am like this. And, he is shaking like this. And, he got epilepsy, you know? Attack, you know? And, if I didn't stop him, he will die. Then, I am holding him. I don't know what to do. If I let go, he will fall, you know? Then, hunters have a special code. If there is a problem, you supposed to shoot someone. You shoot three times. Then, all the other hunters will come. So, I am like, shoot three times. Then, they came. Our friends came. Took him to the hospital. He was okay. But, something happened to me. On that day, I realized my father is a normal person. He can also die. He can also get sick, you know? I think it happened to all of us, right? One day, you find out your dad and your mom are not Buddha. Or, maybe they are Buddha, but they look like they are going to die, you know? Or, they get very sick. Then, for a kid, something happened inside your heart. Oh, my dad can die. My dad will leave me. Something break inside your heart. And I think it happens to everybody. There is nobody in your life who is not like that. All the people you are hoping who will help you, they are also in trouble. Even your dad, even your doctor, they are all in trouble. They are just older. So, in this meditation, the goal of this meditation is try to imagine someone who can really help you. Doesn't need to eat. Cannot die. Happy all the time. Knows all things. Knows everything you are thinking all the time. Okay? And get used to asking this person for protection. Then you can't see them. Why? It's like ant cannot see horse. Okay? It's too big. And the horse is like, Hi, I'm here. And the ant is like, So, there are many Buddhists all around us. We cannot see them now. But tonight you heard about them. That means you are close to seeing them. Okay? In your school, they didn't tell you, you know, try to find a Buddha. Okay? At your job, they didn't say everyone has two days off next week to find a Buddha. But in this room, you heard there are Buddhists. And they are waiting to help you. So, now you have to try to contact them. Higher Buddhism, we call Diamond Way, Vajrayana. If you practice it, you can become Buddha in this life. But first you need to finish Lam Rim. The tradition is, finish Lam Rim first. Then a teacher can teach you secret Buddhism. Someone wrote me last week, Can you call me tomorrow at 8.30 in the morning and teach me Vajrayana? Can you call me tomorrow at 8.30 in the morning and teach me Vajrayana? You know, I was funny, you know. Usually, I ask the student to wait for 7 or 8 years. Teach them for 7 or 8 years. So, I wrote them, I said, Not 8.30, but 7 or 8 years. But, in that higher teaching, which we can do together, we have to finish some Lam Rim. In that higher teaching has two parts. The whole Vajrayana has two parts. We call Kerim and Dzogrim. Kerim means, Try to make contact with Buddha. I like to call angel. To me, angel means like Buddha, but looks nicer. So, first half of Vajrayana is try to contact them. Try to get their cell phone number, you know, of Buddha. Try to talk to them. So, whole secret teaching, first half, goal is to meet a Buddha or angel directly. Okay? That's the whole first half. It's called Kerim. Second half, called Dzogrim, you ask them to teach you how to change your body into Buddha. You can't do second half until you do first half. If you don't have their cell phone number, you cannot ask them how to change your body. So, it's always two steps. First step, contact them directly. You know, they come to your room, and you can talk to them. So, that's the first half. Second half, personally, they sit with you, and they teach you how to change your body into Buddha. Your body and mind. Okay? Before that, we can, you know, we can pray to them. We can ask them for help, but we can't see them, and we can't talk to them. Okay? So, how to prepare yourself to call them is Lamrim. What we are doing here is prepare you to contact them directly. Cool? Okay. Alright. Let's do some book. We finished the story of the catapult. Next. That's a long story. Okay, let's start. Nick, let's try R, B, A, D. You should hit the right place. R, B, A, D. [Speaker 2] Yeah, that's good. [Speaker 1] Okay, let's read together. RGYAL PO'I KHAB TU MA RGYAS DRE LAM PO'I PHYIR NOR BSKYONG STON PO NYON PA BAD PA NA DRA BCOM GZHAN THAMS CAD GCIG NI RNAMS KA LA PHUR YANG SANGS RGYAS GNYIS NI GCIG PA MED PA NOR BSKYONG BRTUL BAR MDZAD PA Now, the Lama told the second story. RGYAL PO'I KHAB TU at Rajagriha where Buddha taught Heart Sutra. Makeda, which is that bad prince, Ajatashatru, he had a wild elephant. Okay, so the ancient kings of India, they didn't have airplanes and tanks, but they had special elephants. Who are trained to kill people. And they will put swords on their tusks. And they teach them to cut people. When Alexander the Great, with 50,000 men, he beat 5 million men. But when he got to India, he had to stop. Because of the elephants. So, this king had an elephant like that. The elephant's name is Dhanabala. Which means he guards the king's money. STON PO, very tough. NYON PA, half crazy. Then one day, he got his elephant, and he tried to kill the Buddha with his elephant. And the elephant was running towards the Buddha. And the Buddha had many of his students with him. And those students already reached Nirvana. They are Arhat, but they are not Buddha. Then they all got scared and fly into the sky. They have this power, to get away from the elephant. Then Buddha is just like... Then he touched the elephant on the head. And the elephant is like, Wow! Then... After that, the elephant became his pet. And he's always following him around. It means again that the arrow turned to flower. Then I want to tell you the whole story. But I'm going to tell you tomorrow. When you're tired in the afternoon, Daddy will tell you a story. Alright. It's a nice story. And it's kind of long. That's why they didn't put it in the book. Pretty many pages. Let's see. Oh my gosh. Yeah, long story. [Speaker 2] Ok. [Speaker 1] Now let's start again. Then the Lama told another story. This is maybe the most famous story of someone who tried to kill the Buddha. The person's name was Sri Gupta. He dug a big hole. He wanted to kill the Buddha. He filled the hole with fire coals. Then cover it with a piece of silk. And put dirt on the silk. Then he invited the Buddha to come for lunch. Then he's thinking Buddha will step on the silk and he will fall into the fire. Then his wife suggested, you know, if the Buddha gets out of the hole, let's give him lunch. But let's put poison in the lunch. So even if he survived the fire, he will die from the poison. LHAG MA NYED PA means they didn't succeed. And I'll tell you the whole story couple days from now. That story is very long. So tomorrow I'll tell you the crazy elephant story. Then I'll take you to a place and I'll take two days rest. Actually I do all my other projects. And then our team of teachers, they will teach us special classes. And we worked very hard on them. How many teachers team? I don't know. Oh, they are up here. And the classes they are going to teach are described there. So, what is that? Friday and Saturday. You will have a nice party. And each teacher there has some specialty. Like Nick translated a special book by Nagarjuna, who lived 2000 years ago. I think nobody ever translated this book. And he translated it. He's going to teach it. So each teacher has a special subject. And I guess Tim's going to tell us how we sign up for the... at the end of tonight. And I will also come to... I'd like to hear those classes also. I'm curious what Nick's going to say. He wrote a small commentary. So, they are pretty cool. Okay. DE'I TSE SPEL BAS DANG DE'I CHUNG MA BYAS PAR LTUNG PA GANG SA THAL MA'I DANG DUG GIS JIG CHOG CHOG GCIG LAS GZHAN PAS DU SHES MA CHUNG BA Those people, the guy and his wife who tried to kill the Buddha with poison. And with fire. They thought Buddha is just a regular person. Then the lama said, when you teach people the part of how to find a teacher, you should tell them this story. Because in this story, the man and his wife think Buddha is a normal person. And while they are trying to kill the Buddha, they find out he is amazing. Then that's also true of your teacher. So, if you have a good relationship with your teacher, in the beginning, you think just normal person. You see them pick their nose. Or you see them drink cappuccino. They are just normal person. And then, if you have a nice relationship with your teacher, then slowly you start to see they are actually Buddha. So he said, you can take this story, and you can use it when you teach people how to find a teacher. That story is so important that Buddha made a separate sutra. It's called Sutra of Shri Gupta. And I'm going to read the whole sutra to you. So I'll do it the day when the Buddha when I come back from my vacation. I'm going very far away on my vacation. I'm going to the table in my room. Okay. Your teacher also has gotten rid of negative qualities. And also, how do you say? The seeds for them. And that's a sign that they don't need ever to be afraid of anything. So we are looking for a teacher who is never afraid of anything. Okay. Now we reach the what we call the second thing. Second quality of Buddha jewel. First one was that lady army soldier. They themselves don't have any fear. They don't need protection. And they can protect us. Okay. Then, second quality of Buddha jewel. When other people are afraid, they know how to take away the problem. Okay. They are very good at teaching you how not to be afraid. Then somebody like there are some people who are very good at playing piano. But if you ask them to teach you piano, they can't do it. They get angry. They don't like to have a student. Buddha is not like that. Buddha knows how to play piano and Buddha can also teach you to play piano. It means Buddha is free from all problems and can teach you how to do it. You know, some people are very good at I don't know, yoga. I have a friend, very pretty famous yoga teacher. Then I said, you know, how many people are you training to become yoga teacher? And he said, zero. I said, well, don't you want to teach other people to teach yoga? And he said, no. I said, why not? It's such a headache. Students are such a headache. Just come to my class, give me money, and then go home. I don't want the trouble to have a student. Then Buddha is not like that. Buddha is finished all fear. But he is also interested to teach you how to do the same thing. RANG RGYUD PA THAMS CAD DU RGYUR GYANG GZHAN GYUR BSTANG ZHES PA'I DKA'B LA SKYE NA If they were not like that, MA LAG SDUG MED BU CHUD KHYER BA DAG GZHAN GYUR MI NUS MO Okay, I went to Shanghai. Where is Wangsha? There is a place called the Bund, right? It's the riverside. And you can walk along the river for a long way. And it's very beautiful. And these are the most expensive buildings. So suppose that some mom is walking with her kid. Along the Bund. But the mother has a problem. She was in a car accident and she has no hands. Then suddenly the kid falls in the water. Then the mother cannot hold them. Cannot take them out. So this is a very famous Buddhist comparison. If that person is free from trouble, but they don't know how to help other people, become free from trouble. In Buddhism we say it's like a mother without hands. Who tries to save their child from the river. Cannot do. Okay. SANGS RGYAS CHENG DANG DE NI DU BYED DU BA'I THABS LA BSKYED PAS But a Buddha is very good at DUL BA DUL BA is a special Buddhist word. Okay, now I have to tell you about my teacher. We lived together in the same house for 25 years. We are like old married couple. You know? When we have breakfast, he's like, I'm like, he's like, I'm like, You know, we know what we want to say. We live together so long. He's like, It means good morning, how are you? Would you like the same breakfast you had for last 20 years? Yeah, I'll have it. Don't burn the egg this time. Okay, then, he has a dog, and it's a, what do you call? A mixed. Small Chinese dog. And one day, I came up to his room, you know? And he says, you want to make a bet? I'm like, what's the bet? He said, I bet you $10. I can make this dog say OM MANI PADME HUM And if you bet me $20, the dog will say OM MANI PADME HUM and do prostration. I said, okay, I'll bet. It's an easy $20, you know? Nobody can teach a dog to say OM MANI PADME HUM and make prostration. Then he started, you know? Every night, like one hour, he has a special dog bone, you know? And he will hold up the bone, you know? And the dog try to reach it, you know? Then, you know, the dog try to eat the bone. And my Lama go BANG! Hit the dog, you know? Dog's like, didn't try again. Then, if he doesn't do just right, my Lama BANG! I felt a little bit uncomfortable. BANG! Then, he got him to do ... It took like six months. Every night. Then dog will sit up like this. Cannot balance, you know? Okay. Then he start the mantra, you know? OM RRRR BOOM! OM! [Speaker 2] RRRR BOOM! [Speaker 1] I said, Rinpoche, don't hit the dog. He has too many teeth, cannot say OM. [Speaker 2] He said, can say, can say. [Speaker 1] After like one month, the dog is like, Om. He said, Beimei. It took like one year, you know. Finally, really, the dog is go like this and go, Om. Om. Om. You know. Then two things happen. Number one, I lose $20. Then, towards the end, I was watching him boom boom. I said, He's doing that to me. 25 years. He's teaching me and dogs him. Suddenly, I realize, when I do something wrong, he boom. Then, I said, he thinks I'm dog also. He just want me to, teach me to. That's duo. Buddhist word duo. What's the Sanskrit? Vinaya. So, you heard monk's vows called Vinaya. There are, Vinaya actually means vows for monks and vows for lay people. And the first set of vows, like monk has nigangabdrimasam, has 253 vows. Nun has 364. Bhiksuni has 264 vows. Why nuns have more than 100 extra vows? Because they are more naughty than monks. Then, when I say that, Jigme gets angry at me. But tonight, she's not here. Then, there's a special set of vows. For people who want to take refuge. Then, when you take refuge, you have to keep special vows. Small list. Then, we do a small ceremony. You get a special Buddhist name. So, I thought, this time, since we are studying refuge, that if you like to take those vows, towards the end of the week, the end of the class, we can have a special ceremony. And I will give them. Then, one time, I was in the airport, and one Buddhist monk walking down, and one boy in our group, he's like, oh, look, Buddhist monk. Then, he ran, he said, the monk is like, can you teach me something? What do you want to learn? He says, I want a Buddhist name. I want to take refuge, monk. Then, monk said, I'm getting on the plane in five minutes. Okay, let's do it. Boom, boom. Okay, you have vow. That's not the way I do it. I want to explain the vows to you carefully. Okay, and that will take, I don't know, hour, hour and a half. So, I will spend some time teaching those vows carefully. Then, if you like to take them, you can take them. And I'll give you a Buddhist name. Okay, later in the week. Okay, SANGS RGYAS CHEN PO'I DE NI DU BYA'I DUR BA'I THABS LA BSKYED PA Then, Buddha is very good at teaching even very people who are more stupid than dog. Okay, then, so, not only he can play piano, he's very good piano teacher. Then, there's some example here. SHES DANG CHEN SOR CHUNG CHEN LTA BU'I SDIG PO BYED DANG Then, there are some famous people in Buddhism who did some very bad things in their life. For example, one of them called Angulimala. Some teacher told him if you want to reach Nirvana, you have to kill one thousand people. And each person you kill, you cut off this finger. And you put it on a string around your neck. And when you reach one thousand, you will reach Nirvana. So, his name, Angulimala means a string of fingers. Then, he made a big mistake. Number one thousand, he picked Buddha. And it's a very funny story. He needs one more finger to reach Nirvana. And he sees Buddha walking to the forest. He's like, oh great, this is number one thousand. Then, Buddha's just walking very slow. Probably, he was taught by Elisa Monte. And he's just walking very slow. Then, Angulimala runs after him. Then, no matter how fast Angulimala runs, Buddha walking slow is always ahead a little bit more. So, Angulimala is like, Buddha's just walking. Then, no matter how hard he runs, he cannot catch up. Then, finally, he just stops. He's like, who are you? I just want to kill you. I can't reach you. Who are you? My name's Buddha. Then, he taught him. And Angulimala became Arhat. So, Buddha is not just a normal teacher. Buddha can take the worst person and make them into Arhat. Then, they give some more examples of people with great pride, people with great anger, people who did very bad karmas, and all of them, Buddha was able to teach them. NUS GYIN GROG MA DANG NUS GYIN GROG NAS LTA BU RTOGS CHEN GYIS MI MA YIN Even people who are not human, Buddha can teach them Buddhism. STIG MU CAN LAM CHUNG LTA BU DBANG PO LTUL BA Even people who are a little bit retarded, there's a very famous story. We talked about it already. This guy is so stupid. When Buddha tried to teach him OM MANI PADME HUM, he cannot remember. So, Buddha said, OM MANI. Then, the guy said, OM MANI. Then, Buddha said, PADME HUM. Then, he said, PADME HUM. Okay, now you say the whole thing again. When he said the second part, he forgot the first part. When he said the first part, he forgot the second part. Then, no matter how many times the Buddha teach him, he cannot learn OM MANI PADME HUM. But later, he also became Arhat. Buddha tricked him, and he became Arhat. KHYIM BDAG BAL GYI LTA BU RGYEN KHOG DGE TSAR CHUNG BA DANG He also taught old people. So, there's a famous person called Shrija. He was very old, like 90 years old. You know, and tired and sick. But Buddha taught him successfully. CHUNG DKA'O LTA BU DGE CHAG SHIN TU CHE BA YANG Even people who had great desire. And, CHUNG means Buddha's half-brother. Younger half-brother. His name is Nanda. And, he also had a problem with a lot of sexual desire. Then, even him, Buddha was able to make him into Arhat. I will tell you that story in Indonesia. In August. Next year. If you have time, we will have special class in Indonesia. There's a mountain there called Bodobudur. It's a mountain of stone. And, one king, a thousand years ago, he carved every part of the mountain into all the stories of the Buddha are there. Several thousand carvings the size of this screen. And, I thought we could go up and I can tell you some stories and show you the stories. If you have time. You can talk to Jenny Wong Right? Yeah, anyway. We'll do the whole Wheel of Life. DCI Wheel of Life is very short. The real story takes a long time. And, we can do. But, this is part of that story. How the Buddha taught Nanda. Okay, so those are two reasons why Buddhists are good protector. Buddha jewel. Then, we're going to take a break. Yesterday, I think it was yesterday, yeah. We did a special meditation. How to die. What does it feel like to die? What will you see when you close your eyes to die? We went through it. Then, some people told me, Geshe-la, don't do that meditation again. Not very fun. You have to do it. My teacher, boom, asked me to do it every night. Before my coffee meditation, I have to do death meditation. Every night. Why? Because someday it will come. Then, you have to get ready. At the end of the darkness in that meditation, you come to a special place. Crystal. At that moment, if you have training, you can jump into the emptiness body of a Buddha. So, night time is not a good time to do the death meditation. Because you'll be sad when you go to bed. But it's a good time to do the jumping meditation. Jumping into Buddha's body. So, I thought, after the break, I'll start to teach you that. How you jump into Buddha's body at the end of your dying time. Okay? We'll do the happy part. And then, tomorrow we'll practice the bad part. With the happy part at the end. Okay, take a break. Okay, let's start. We don't have a lot of time. We have about 15 minutes. Then I just want to get you ready for tomorrow. So, tomorrow morning, we will do the whole meditation. How to go from death bed all the way to Buddha's body. And there are many steps. The last four steps are a little bit difficult. So, we won't do the meditation tonight. I just want to prepare your mind. When you get to the dark part, like end of tunnel, and everything is dark. Okay, at that time, there are four famous steps. Try to say, nangwa. Nangwa. Dong. Sangwa. Ngengwa. Rangshin. Mepa. Dewa. Chenpo-o. Deni. Ngao. Okay, these are very famous. Nangwa. Dong. Sangwa. Ngengwa. Rangshin. Mepa. Deni. Dewa. Chenpo. Deni. Ngao. Okay, these are very famous. At the end of the dying. To protect yourself. All of them are about kongxin. Okay. There are four famous steps. Okay, and let's do them tonight. You're tired. I'm also tired. I just put a seed in your mind. And then tomorrow morning when you're fresh, we will do the real meditation. But it will cook in your mind all night. Okay. So imagine you came home. You know, you are... You want to get a hug from your husband. And you came home from work. And you open the door. And the husband said, you're a phantom. Okay. Then you remember this class. This ten-day class. And you're like, wow, Geshe Michael talked about that. That's so strange. My husband used the same word. Then I'm supposed to think there are two husbands. Okay. The first husband is easy. It's my fault. Okay. Coming from me. Okay, there's a seed in my mind because I yelled at my two kids last week. Okay, and I put a seed in my mind. So, one husband yelling at me. That's okay. I understand why he's yelling at me. And I'm not going to say bad thing back to him. Because I understand I will make a new bad seed. Okay, but there's a little bit anger feeling. That's towards the second husband who's not your fault. You didn't do anything. He decided to be angry. He decided to say bad thing to you. Okay, that husband who's not your fault. Not coming from you. Where is that husband? Doesn't exist. There's a joke in Buddhism. Never existed. Doesn't exist. Cannot exist tomorrow. He doesn't exist three ways. Never could exist. Cannot exist right now. Cannot exist tomorrow. Cannot ever exist. Something which is not coming from you, but it's coming this way is impossible. So, now stay with me. Okay, then I'll finish on time you can go to bed. Okay, you start to get upset. That husband, he's such a bad guy. Call me phantom. Then suddenly you remember that one cannot exist. Finished. He's gone. That one cannot exist. Then, how does it feel at that moment? You are getting upset, you know. Then suddenly, poof! Nothing there. Okay? It means emptiness is showing itself to you. Hi Stanley. My name is emptiness. Okay? Like that, okay? That's the first step at the end of death that you want to practice. Wow! Nothing not coming from me. Okay, like that. It's difficult, okay? We'll do it again tomorrow. NANG BA STONG SANG BA means only thing showing itself to me. It's something missing. I always tell this story. I took Nick and his wife to the restaurant. You know, he worked very hard on many projects. I said, don't worry, I'll take you to the best restaurant. Then, I'll pay. I want to impress him and Aaron. Don't worry, the boss will pay. Then we had a big dinner. Then I said, I'll take the bill, they don't pay. Then they say, okay, here's the bill. Then I'm like, I left my credit card in my other pants. That's NANG BA STONG SANG BA. Okay? Something missing. Okay, got it? Same feeling. You supposed to have the same feeling. How many things coming this way? Nothing. Okay, that feeling. It's not any kind of nothing. It's the emptiness of a thing that couldn't be there. And we'll talk more about it tomorrow. That's the first of the four steps for jumping into a Buddha body. What's appearing to you is that. Nothing. Something missing. Okay? It's not easy, okay? That's why you didn't do it yet. NANG BA STONG SA. NGES SNGON RANG BZHIN MED PA So, during death, naturally, your mind comes close to seeing emptiness. So, if you know what to do, and you try, you can see emptiness. It can help you become a Buddha. So, what's showing to you is nothing. Then you must take it the right way. First part, what's showing to you? Second part, how do you interpret it? Oh, oh, I know what that is. Geshe Michael told me I should expect it to come. That's not just any... That's not just any nothing. That's emptiness. That's emptiness. So, the second step, how you take it. Oh, that's emptiness. Okay? Don't worry, okay? Everyone looks confused. I'll confuse you more tomorrow. Okay? Don't worry about it. Okay, third one, you should feel a very great happiness. DE BA CHEN PO'O It means, it means, wow, I'm dying. I lost my body. I lost my family. I lost my house. I lost everything. I lost my own fingers and body. But now, emptiness came to me. Oh, that's so beautiful. Okay, like that. That's third part. I'm so happy. You know? Buddha's body is very close. I can jump in. Okay, that's the third part. You get a feeling, great happiness. Okay, got it? Then the fourth part, that emptiness and that happiness is the new me. That's my new body. Okay. So you have a choice. At the end of all of those experiences, in the darkness, you have choice. You can jump into dog. You can jump into, I don't know, I don't know, fish. Okay, you have choice. Or you can jump into emptiness. And that's the inside of a Buddha. Then you become Buddha. Okay, if you know what to do. So, someone has to teach you. Okay, and you have to practice. Okay, so we'll do it again tomorrow. I just want to get your mind ready. Okay, don't worry, you don't understand everything, don't worry about it. Just relax. Okay, and I put the seed in your mind tonight. Because now your mind will cook it all night. Okay, and in the morning you will be ready. Okay, I have to cook. I was a cook for eight years. Some of the monks eat meat. I don't eat meat. But I have to cook for them. Then there's a special hammer. If the meat is cheap, you have to hit the meat. And make it soft. Then next morning you can cook it. Understand? Okay? I'm just hitting the meat. And in the morning you'll be ready. Okay, so please don't worry about it. Okay, I just wanted to hit the meat a little bit. And in the morning we'll cook, okay? And you'll enjoy. You will learn how to jump into a Buddha's body. And that's protection. Okay? From big, big problem. Called death. Okay, so we are not just learning ... This is not DCI. I'm not teaching you how to make more money. Okay, I'm teaching you how to die correctly. Okay, how to jump into Buddha's body. Which one is better? No, you should say both. Geshe-la, don't trick me. I want money and Buddha's body. Okay, you should always answer like that. If teacher say, would you rather have lots of money or peace in your mind? You say both. You say both. No problem, I want both. [Speaker 2] No problem, I want both.
