[Speaker 1]
In the Buddhist books, old books, it says if someone teaches kongxing nicely, and if people learn kongxing nicely, that good karma is too heavy for the whole earth for the whole earth to hold it. So the earth will go like this. This morning, did you feel?

It means you did a good job yesterday. Let's meditate, okay? Every morning, or most mornings, we'll do the same beginning meditation.

This is a very, very old custom from Buddha. First thing in the morning, do a meditation which makes a lot of good karma and cleans a lot of bad karma. So the best way to do it is with your teacher.

Then, teacher is like jeans. Same teacher doesn't fit everybody. Okay?

If I try to put on Xiaoping's jeans, I will have problem. Or if she try to put on mine, she also have problem. So, in your lifetime, you have to find a teacher who fits you.

And it doesn't have to be me. It can be anybody. Could be your mom, dad.

Could be some school teacher. Could be someone you can imagine, but you didn't meet them yet. Okay, so this morning, we'll do a meditation.

Clean old bad karma. Make new good karma. And this is the beginning of every day for Dharma and every meditation.

It has the same steps.

[Speaker 2]
Okay?

[Speaker 1]
So, we're just kind of getting ready for the day. Okay, so sit up straight. It's fine to sit in a chair.

If you want to sit on the floor, it's fine. Okay, no problem. The main thing is park your body like you park your car.

You know, if you go to Starbucks, shimboka, in your car, you park the car and then you go into shimboka. You don't take the car into shimboka. So, this car is the same.

Okay, before meditation, park it.

[Speaker 2]
And then leave it.

[Speaker 1]
And go deep inside the mind. So, it should be parked in a comfortable way. You don't ...

you know that irritating car alarm?

[Speaker 2]
Beep, beep, beep.

[Speaker 1]
Beep, beep, beep. Good translation. Okay, you don't want the car alarm in your knees to go off while you are in the shimboka of your meditation, your Starbucks of your meditation.

Okay? So, you have to park your body in a comfortable way.

[Speaker 2]
Okay? So, the alarms don't go off in your knees, or your back.

[Speaker 1]
And each person's body is different. So, get ready to park your body. Don't ...

don't do some position which will hurt after ten minutes.

[Speaker 2]
Okay?

[Speaker 1]
And then leave your body. And don't think about it. I'll tell you something amazing about meditation.

During meditation, it doesn't matter how you look. Because everybody's eyes are closed. Okay?

So, you can go like that.

[Speaker 2]
I don't care. Okay?

[Speaker 1]
Park your car.

[Speaker 2]
Ready? Sit up straight.

[Speaker 1]
Forehead is relaxed. Very important for the corners of the mouth to be relaxed. And it's very important for the eyelids to be relaxed.

Fingers are relaxed. Stomach a little bit pulled in. And find a place where you can keep it a little bit tight.

And that will help your lower back. And then slowly start to watch your breath. Watching your breath is not meditation.

That's part of parking the car. So, it helps you to park the car. Then, after you watch your breath, you should forget about your breath.

So, watch your breath. Long exhales. And that will relax your body and your mind.

Let's watch your breath for a few minutes. Then, please ask your teacher to come and meditate with you. And they come and sit in front of you.

Even though your eyes are closed, you can see their face. They're very happy that you are meditating. Happy that you asked them to come.

[Speaker 2]
Then, think about something beautiful about your teacher.

[Speaker 1]
Something you would like to have yourself.

[Speaker 2]
And thinking about that beautiful thing is honoring them.

[Speaker 1]
Then, we make them an offering. There's a famous offering where you cover the sky with flowers. It's called samantabhadra.

[Speaker 2]
It's a cloud offering.

[Speaker 1]
Let's try that today.

[Speaker 2]
If we all imagine the sky over Phuket covered with flowers.

[Speaker 1]
And offer that to our teachers. Now, we clean away some bad seeds. Which will make the later meditations today more strong.

So, I'd like you to try to think of something in the last 24 hours. Very small negative thoughts about other people here. So, of course, we all love each other.

And we are having a very beautiful harmony here so far. But yesterday, did you have any very small negative thoughts? Like, this guy talks too loud.

Or, this lady is a little bit irritating. Okay, and go over the last 24 hours. See if there are any small things you would like to clean.

And we'll spend a few minutes here. Now, the opposite. It's like a small coffee meditation.

What nice things did you do yesterday? Tell your lama about it. It's very important to give the good things equal time to the bad things.

[Speaker 2]
Now, so, last 24 hours, small, small good things.

[Speaker 1]
Who did you smile at? Who did you give a hug? Who did you say something nice to?

Who did you serve?

[Speaker 2]
Who did you watch serving and you enjoyed it?

[Speaker 1]
And be happy about it. We'll spend a few minutes here. And please ask your teacher to teach.

Teachings, after you ask for them, teachings can come in many unexpected ways. Maybe someone says something that inspires you unexpectedly. Or someone says something that corrects you unexpectedly.

[Speaker 2]
We believe all those teachings are coming from your teacher.

[Speaker 1]
Through the people around you. So, ask for Dharma teaching. But also ask for the small teachings that come all day.

Then ask your teacher, please stay in my life. Please stay close to me. And in this meditation, we made a lot of good seeds.

And the best way to protect them is to give them to other people. So, I'd like you to think of one person here that you know. And in your heart, offer all these good seeds from the last few minutes into their heart.

I would like to make you a gift of my good seeds. And then slowly you can open your eyes. Take a stretch.

Very nice meditation. Very quiet. Thank you.

Nobody was moving. Nobody was making noise. Thank you for that.

They think I need three cappuccinos. Okay, let's go back to the text. So, the Lam Rim book that you guys have, I know it's translated into Chinese.

I heard it's a pretty good translation. It mentions those eight qualities of Sangha Jewel. But they are a little bit difficult.

So, I got them from some other books. One of the most famous books is called Uttara Tantra. Uttara?

Tantra. It's not a tantra, but it's called tantra. It's a book of philosophy written by a Sangha who's very famous in China.

[Speaker 2]
So, just to repeat those eight from yesterday.

[Speaker 1]
These are eight qualities of Sangha Jewel. But the definition of Sangha Jewel it says any Arya any person who saw emptiness directly and has some one or more of these eight. Okay, so maybe they don't have all eight.

But they are still Sangha Jewel.

[Speaker 2]
Easy way anyone who saw emptiness directly is Sangha Jewel.

[Speaker 1]
Okay, if you want to go deeper you can divide that into eight parts. Number one, they saw emptiness directly. Number two, they understand that all the people around them have emptiness like the husband in the kitchen.

Number three, they know they have this understanding. Number four, they don't have wrong kind of attachment where they try to keep things for themselves. They like things.

They like their children. They like their parents. They like a nice car.

[Speaker 2]
That's okay.

[Speaker 1]
But they understand the way to have them is to share them with other people. Then also, they have big vision. They are free from limit on their vision.

When they go to the nursing home to visit the old lady to put the seeds for her husband, and they open the old lady's door, when they touch the doorknob, they have not a small vision, they have a big vision. What's a small vision?

[Speaker 2]
If I visit this old lady, I will get a husband. It's a correct vision, but it's small.

[Speaker 1]
Then unlimited vision. If I visit the old lady and I get a husband, my friend will hear about it. Then they will come and visit the old lady also.

And then their friend's friend's friend's friend will also come. And it will become like Norway. Lots of young people visiting lots of old people.

Maybe the national telephone company will pay for the movie.

[Speaker 2]
So, this fifth quality of the Sangha jewel, have a big vision.

[Speaker 1]
I'm going to become a nice person and it's going to become a virus.

[Speaker 2]
And the whole world will change. Because I got a husband the right way.

[Speaker 1]
Okay, number six. That love spread to all people. It's not difficult to have that kind of love.

You know, people say you should love the whole world. In the monastery, every five minutes we're supposed to ... I'm trying to help the whole world.

There's a joke in the monastery. We all have to work in the kitchen in the monastery. I was the cook for eight years.

And I was the main cook for eight years. It doesn't mean I cook good, I don't. But, you know, when you're washing, the pots in the monastery, they're not this big, they're this big.

To wash the tea-cooking pot, you have to get inside and wash. Then one day, the main washing teacher, there's like a boss, master, master washer. In the monastery, there's a master everything.

Then he came down the ladder into the cooking pot. He said to me, somebody washed this pot to help every living being.

[Speaker 2]
I said, what do you mean?

[Speaker 1]
He said, that means they did a lousy job. It means, oh, for every living being, it means do something without thinking about it. So, it's easy to talk about, oh, I want to help the whole world.

But, in these ten days, you can learn a way to really help the whole world.

[Speaker 2]
How? You be a good example.

[Speaker 1]
How? You get a husband without going to a nightclub. Okay?

You get one by planting seeds. Then everyone will copy you. Then the nightclubs will go out of business.

[Speaker 2]
They can change them all into nursing homes.

[Speaker 1]
Okay? Understand? That's number ...

what is that? Number ... Six.

Okay? Everything you do to be successful can help the whole world. Okay.

Then this is very strange. Number seven and number eight. Number seven is just, oh, the first three are kinds of knowledge.

Number eight is, the next three are kinds of freedom. So, it's very hard to get an explanation of those eight. Because seven and eight are very confusing.

Oh, what's number seven?

[Speaker 2]
First three are kinds of knowledge. What's number eight? The second three are kinds of freedom.

[Speaker 1]
First three, kind of understanding. Oh, husband's not coming from husband. Husband who yelled at me is not coming from husband.

This is knowledge.

[Speaker 2]
Then freedom.

[Speaker 1]
I won't say anything.

[Speaker 2]
Because of knowledge, you have freedom.

[Speaker 1]
Oh, I won't answer anything bad to my husband. Why? I don't want to see him again this way.

So, I'm not going to plant a new bad seed.

[Speaker 2]
Okay?

[Speaker 1]
Got it?

[Speaker 2]
In Buddhism, all love comes from emptiness. Okay? Understand?

All goodness comes from emptiness.

[Speaker 1]
There doesn't exist a husband who criticized me who comes from his own side.

[Speaker 2]
That's emptiness. Then what's love?

[Speaker 1]
So, I won't make him angry. I won't answer something bad. Because I don't want to see him again this way.

And that's a kind of love. That's a higher kind of love. Okay, there's a thing in America called gorilla glue.

It's a special kind of glue. You can glue anything. If you break a glass, you can glue it with gorilla glue.

If all the mechanics have it, if your car breaks, you can glue even pieces of car together. And it's a very strange kind of glue.

[Speaker 2]
Every ... after you put it on, every day, it gets harder and harder.

[Speaker 1]
So, after one month, it's much harder than the first day. Love that comes from emptiness is like that. The more angry the husband gets, the stronger the love gets.

Understand? Okay?

[Speaker 2]
Other kinds of love they will collapse.

[Speaker 1]
If the husband says something really bad, he gets more and more angry. And then finally love will break. But love based on emptiness is gorilla glue.

The more angry the husband gets, the stronger the love gets. So, it's the only kind of gorilla glue love. It's based on emptiness.

So, obviously emptiness doesn't mean sit down, think about nothing. It just means the angry husband who comes from his side doesn't exist. And then your love can be strong.

[Speaker 2]
And nothing can break it.

[Speaker 1]
The more problems you have, the stronger it gets.

[Speaker 2]
Cool?

[Speaker 1]
Is that how you say cool? Okay. Alright, here we go.

Okay, cappuccino break. 喝咖啡休息一下。 Nick, we're on page ...

you can go to P-H-A-N-G-N-O-D. P-H-A-N-G-N-O-D. Okay.

Yeah, good. That's where we are. Okay.

So, any karma you do towards Sangha is more serious. So, this group here today, almost 400 people, this is a Sangha. Dharma Sangha.

We are here together because we want to help the world. So, yesterday Jasmine asked who wants to help pay for refreshments for the break? Then I'm a businessman.

I know good investment when I see it. If I have chance to buy tea and coffee for this whole group, I will do it because I'll get more interest. Understand?

So, the book says any good thing you do for this kind of group is more powerful than for other kinds of groups. And anything you do to hurt this group is more powerful. Oh, Tim, you know, you're doing a really good job.

Where is Tim? Let's give Tim a hand. You know, you're doing a really good job and I hope you find your comb.

So, anything like that unkind thing, actually I'm jealous because I cannot have like him.

[Speaker 2]
So, any unkind thing you say to hurt this group, it's much more serious.

[Speaker 1]
So, you have to have good behavior during these ten days. Then when you go home, you can have bad behavior. Then he says, DE YANG JIG PA NA RE TZAM LAS SKYOB PA LA SKYAB TE GSUM KHA MI DGOS PAR RE RE KYANG SKYOB GNYIS TE If you have small problems and you need protection, you don't have to go through all ...

you don't have to ask help from all three jewels. You can just ask one of the jewels.

[Speaker 2]
Okay?

[Speaker 1]
Try to find someone in this group who understands the pen very well, like Scott and Ori, and then ask them for help. You don't have to go to Buddha or Dharma. You can just ask one of ...

they are Sangha Jewel, right? They have good understanding of kongshin. So, for small problems, you can just go to one of the jewels.

SNGA RDOG HAM NA MI ZHIG BDAG GIS KHYER RGAB CHEN RE ZIG LA SU BA LTA PA'I DE MA THA SA LA ZHAG TE SONG BA'I BDAG GIS JIG PA LAS THAR BA DANG So, he told a story, there was a man who lived in a what do you call it? Amdo. It's the East Tibet.

[Speaker 2]
And one day, tiger grabbed him and started to drag him away.

[Speaker 1]
Then he said, Avalokiteshvara, what do you call? Guanyin. Yes, please help me.

Just came out of his mouth, Oh, Amitabha. Sorry, Guanyin, Guanyin.

[Speaker 2]
You know, he asked for help. And immediately the tiger let him go.

[Speaker 1]
So, that's one example. GANG PO RAB TU BYUNG NAS DRA BCOM THOB BYED DE BUN DANG SONG BA RGA SHI RGYAL TSOR SONG STE Okay? So, there's a famous disciple of Buddha called Purna.

[Speaker 2]
He became a monk.

[Speaker 1]
He reached arhat. Arhat means you reached nirvana. Okay, what is the definition of nirvana?

Nik? Nik. NYON GYUR MA LUS PA'ANG PAS SO SOGS DANG PO Okay, this is the definition of nirvana.

You are free of all obstacles.

[Speaker 2]
Negative emotions. Permanently. Because you understand emptiness.

What does it look like?

[Speaker 1]
It's the woman who came to the kitchen, and her husband's yelling at her, and she understands there are two husbands. One is coming from her, from the seed she planted with her two kids last week.

[Speaker 2]
Then there's a second husband who wants to say something bad to her.

[Speaker 1]
He decided to say something bad to her. And it's his decision, and it's his fault. That husband cannot exist.

Okay?

[Speaker 2]
Try to understand. Nobody wants to hurt you.

[Speaker 1]
If it looks like they want to hurt you, try to understand. It's coming from what you said to your kids last week.

[Speaker 2]
You can't blame husband anymore.

[Speaker 1]
If you keep thinking like that, you keep practicing, there will come a day when you come home, your boss or your husband says something bad to you, and you're just like, okay, I'm not going to get upset. I will try to be nicer to my kids. Okay?

Then that person is Arhat, who thinks like that. You cannot make them angry. You know, I don't know ...

I grew up with ... we are four brothers, no sisters. Then I have two little brothers.

Why were they born into my family? To try to upset me. They try every day.

Then if they can get me angry, they're happy. First they hit me, you know. Then they tear up my homework, you know.

Then they take my clothes, run away, you know. Then finally I get angry. They're like, I got you angry, I got you angry.

Okay? The person who you cannot make angry is Arhat. You can only make an Arhat with understanding emptiness.

Yes.

[Speaker 2]
Okay, so this monk Purnar, he became an Arhat.

[Speaker 1]
BUN DANG TSANGS PA RGA SHI RGYA MTSOR SONG STE He went on a trip across the ocean with his brothers and some businessmen. SENDAL SA CHOG LANG KHAB They were looking to buy sandalwood. DE'I GSUM MA'I GRU ZHIG PAR TZAM PA NA And there was a spirit protecting the sandalwood.

If you want sandalwood, you can go to MTSOR, right Lady Ruth? Yeah. There's a sandalwood tree everywhere.

everywhere, in Mysore, South India.

[Speaker 2]
It grows everywhere. You can just go and break a stick and it smells good.

[Speaker 1]
So, the protector of the sandalwood forest tried to destroy their boat. ,GANG PO'I PHUNG GI DRA BCOM PA, ,GANG PO LA GSOL BA LTAS PAS, Then the brothers of Purna, they said to Purna, you are Arhat.

[Speaker 2]
Please protect us.

[Speaker 1]
Okay, that request saved the ship. Okay, so that's also like taking refuge for a small problem in one of the three jewels.

[Speaker 2]
Then here's a third story.

[Speaker 1]
,RGYAL PO SEL RGYAL, this is a famous India Dharma King. His Sanskrit name is Prasenajit. ,LU'I RGYAL PO GSAN CHAGS CHAGS PA PA, Then one Naga, dragon, started to throw spears at him.

Then, Maudgalyayana, this is one of the disciples of Buddha, he has a miracle power. So, he did something, like in a Chinese movie.

[Speaker 2]
I like Jackie Chan, The Myth. You know, and all those weapons that are coming, they change into flowers. Cover him with flowers.

[Speaker 1]
Who else did that?

[Speaker 2]
Buddha, right?

[Speaker 1]
Yeah, Buddha. Just before he became Buddha, some spirits came, Mara, some spirits.

[Speaker 2]
And they threw spears, shoot arrows.

[Speaker 1]
Then he's like, you know? And they all become flowers.

[Speaker 2]
And he's covered with flowers.

[Speaker 1]
Then he became Buddha. Now, you got a little booklet, right? Manual.

Okay, I think there are 22 meditations there. Okay, there are 22 photographs. Right?

Do you have it? So, it's time to start the meditations for this course. Why did we give you a book about those meditations?

Because after the ten days, you're going to go home and keep doing them.

[Speaker 2]
And until we meet again, then I'll give you a new book.

[Speaker 1]
Okay?

[Speaker 2]
So, until next time we meet, this is your homework.

[Speaker 1]
Okay? Try to do three meditations every day. Okay?

They are not very long. We can finish the first one in maybe ten minutes. Okay?

I've been meditating for 43 years, and I had many good meditation teachers. My first meditation teacher was the founder of Vipassana, Goenka.

[Speaker 2]
So, he was my first meditation teacher.

[Speaker 1]
Then I had many, many teachers after that. And I tried hundreds of kinds of meditation. 2000 to 2003, I meditated for three years, three months, three days, without stopping.

I mean, except for sleep. Okay? What I believe is helpful is not to try to do meditation too long.

Okay? I don't believe meditating for more than an hour is helpful. After 43 years, I cannot meditate for more than an hour.

Okay? And my concentration is very, very good. Okay?

I can read these books like newspaper.

[Speaker 2]
Okay?

[Speaker 1]
So, I don't believe most people can sit for three, four hours and meditate. I don't believe it. I think definitely those people are thinking about lunch.

[Speaker 2]
I think so.

[Speaker 1]
Okay? So, I encourage you. Make your meditations short, and pure, and strong.

Then you make them longer. But if you try to make them long right away, you will develop bad meditation habits that you cannot change for many years.

[Speaker 2]
So, in English, we say short and sweet.

[Speaker 1]
Start with ten minutes.

[Speaker 2]
Okay?

[Speaker 1]
And if your friend says, I'm doing Vipassana for three hours, tell them congratulations. You know? Probably you have some good lunch.

Okay? No, don't say that. But probably they are not ...

probably they cannot meditate for three hours. Okay? So, my experience after many, many years, ten strong minutes.

Okay? Very focused meditation. Then, you know, after ...

you can increase ... I think Lady Ruth taught me that, or somebody. You can increase one minute per week or something.

[Speaker 2]
After a year, that's one hour. I had a yoga teacher, David Swanson.

[Speaker 1]
This is when I started yoga, and I couldn't touch my toes. There was some obstacle here. I used to be very fat, pang.

Before I did yoga. Then I said ... he said, touch your toes.

I said, I don't know, something obstacle. Then he got me two telephone books, and he put them on the floor, you know? He said, can you touch the telephone book?

Then I said, yeah, I can touch. Then he said something cool. He said, every day tear out one page of the telephone book.

Then I said, that's a terrible idea. It's going to take me three years to touch my toes. He said, yeah, it will take three years.

And it did, but it worked. Okay? So, don't think you can do one hour meditation first day.

[Speaker 2]
It's not possible.

[Speaker 1]
Do ten minutes, then add one minute every week if you want. Then after a year, you have a one hour very good meditation. To see emptiness directly, you probably need one hour strong meditation.

But, if it takes you one year or one and a half year to reach that, that's fine.

[Speaker 2]
That's good.

[Speaker 1]
Don't sit down in the first day and meditate for one hour, and fifty-five minutes is about lunch. I really like doughnuts, you know? Don't give them to me.

Okay? I'm just saying I like them.

[Speaker 2]
I'm not supposed to eat them. Okay?

[Speaker 1]
But some days, if I'm tired, and I invite Lama to come and meditate with me, and I'm watching the Lama's eyes, you know? Slowly, without realizing, they become two doughnuts. Okay?

So, if you are trying too much ... too long meditation, you will start meditating about doughnuts, or the bad thing your husband said last week.

[Speaker 2]
Okay?

[Speaker 1]
Alright? Be careful.

[Speaker 2]
Okay?

[Speaker 1]
So, let's try ... what time we stop, Scott? Eleven?

Okay, good. Let's do a meditation, and then we'll take a break. Okay, we're going to meditate this first meditation.

What's the first meditation?

[Speaker 2]
It's called arrows to flowers. Okay? What's the meaning?

[Speaker 1]
If someone tries to hurt you, and they start throwing arrows at you, they're not real arrows, right? They're just saying mean things to you. You know, like, oh, I heard you fell asleep during meditation.

That's okay, but please don't snore. Okay? And they start to say bad things to you.

Before that arrow hit your heart, you have to change it into a flower. How? Yeah, ask for help.

Who's the only person who can help you? Who's the real Captain John? Three jewels.

What's the common theme of all three jewels? Emptiness. Okay?

Why? Main Buddha jewel is emptiness body. Main Dharma jewel is direct perception of emptiness.

[Speaker 2]
Sangha ...

[Speaker 1]
Dharma jewel. And Sangha jewel is all the people who saw emptiness. So, the essence of all three jewels is emptiness.

Okay? So, what's the emptiness of someone criticize you for falling asleep during meditation? What's the emptiness?

What's the dependent origination of someone criticizing your meditation? Yeah, Ben is right, as usual. It's coming from me.

Okay? This person criticizing my meditation today, it's coming from me. Okay?

That's the dependent origination of criticism. Cell phone.

[Speaker 2]
Front. Back. Front.

Back.

[Speaker 1]
Dependent origination? Emptiness. Understand?

They go together. You cannot have a front of a cell phone without the back. Okay?

This is dependent origination. This is emptiness. They always come together.

What's the dependent origination of someone criticize your meditation? Mentally, you were criticizing someone else's meditation yesterday. Yesterday, you were criticizing someone else's meditation only in your mind.

[Speaker 2]
Like that.

[Speaker 1]
Oh, Xiaoping. Not meditating very good. Look, her shoulders are like that.

I'm much better. Okay?

[Speaker 2]
Like that.

[Speaker 1]
It's very common during yoga, right? Yesterday, I really enjoyed yoga class with my first yoga teacher. She started me on the path of yoga 18 years ago.

So, I felt very comfortable in the class, and I felt very grateful.

[Speaker 2]
But still, I'm looking around the class.

[Speaker 1]
Who can do ... who cannot do?

[Speaker 2]
Am I better or not?

[Speaker 1]
Did Lady Ruth think I'm better or not? Okay?

[Speaker 2]
That put a small seed in your mind.

[Speaker 1]
Then, next day, someone criticize you. That's the dependent origination of the criticism of your meditation. What's the emptiness?

The person who decide to criticize me didn't decide to criticize me.

[Speaker 2]
They are coming from me.

[Speaker 1]
Because mentally, yesterday, I was criticizing Xiaoping's meditation. How many meditation criticizers in the world are not coming from me? How many?

None of them. Okay? That's person not coming from their side.

What's dependent origination? They are coming from me. Okay?

They always go together. Why are we talking about that? Because we're about to do a meditation and then a break.

What's the meditation's name?

[Speaker 2]
Arrows to flowers.

[Speaker 1]
Because Buddha did it very well just before he became Buddha. A few minutes before he became Buddha.

[Speaker 2]
How do you change arrows into flowers?

[Speaker 1]
It means during this meditation, I want you to think about one person who's giving you trouble. Okay? If you don't have one, I can loan you one.

Okay? Choose one person in your life, a little bit criticizing you.

[Speaker 2]
They are shooting arrows at you. Okay?

[Speaker 1]
And then before the arrow reaches you, try ... what's the dependent origination of this person? You don't have to say this big word, dependent origination.

[Speaker 2]
You can say easy way.

[Speaker 1]
Where is this person's arrows coming from? Okay? What did I do to cause these arrows?

Then think about the emptiness. Oh, those arrows not coming from them.

[Speaker 2]
Those arrows coming from me.

[Speaker 1]
How can I change them? Oh, I have to stop criticizing Xiaoping's meditation. Quiet in my mind, right?

Okay? Got it? So, during this meditation, we're going to choose someone who's giving you a little bit of trouble.

We're going to think about what are they doing. Oh, this person criticizing Geshe Michael on the internet. You know, I don't like it.

They are shooting arrows at Geshe Michael.

[Speaker 2]
Okay?

[Speaker 1]
Then the next part of the meditation, what did I do to cause this person? It's always two things. It's similar, and it's smaller.

Okay? Because the tree seed is smaller than the tree.

[Speaker 2]
Okay?

[Speaker 1]
What small criticism am I giving to other people which caused this person? And I will stop it. Okay?

I will stop this person. I won't try to write more internet criticism than they write. Okay?

[Speaker 2]
That's the old way.

[Speaker 1]
Oh, this person criticized Geshe Michael on the internet. I know something bad about them also. I will shoot arrows faster.

This is old way. New way. Oh, those coming because I criticized Xiaoping yesterday.

I will make a plan.

[Speaker 2]
I will stop criticizing Xiaoping.

[Speaker 1]
Without a seed, a tree cannot grow.

[Speaker 2]
Okay? What small thing are you doing that caused these arrows? Okay?

[Speaker 1]
Then during the meditation, we'll make a plan to stop the small seeds. Then we'll have a break. Then you watch your life.

If you keep doing this meditation about that arrow shooter, those arrows will become flowers. People start praising you on internet. Okay?

I had some people criticizing me on internet. Then I thought, oh, I have to write more emails than them. Then I caught myself.

That's not the way to do it.

[Speaker 2]
I should change the seeds.

[Speaker 1]
Here. Then those arrows will become flowers. So, I tried it.

Okay? It took me a few years. Okay?

I'm sorry. Then I got an email from government of Mexico. Please come to Congress.

We want to give you honorary doctor. Okay? The arrow became a flower.

[Speaker 2]
Okay? Understand? Okay?

So, so you try.

[Speaker 1]
Okay? Let's try. Okay?

Let's start today to change those arrows into flowers.

[Speaker 2]
Okay?

[Speaker 1]
Ready?

[Speaker 2]
Okay. Let's do just a short meditation, then we'll do coffee meditation.

[Speaker 1]
Real coffee meditation. Okay. Get ready.

Relax your mouth. Please turn off your cell phone. I forgot.

[Speaker 2]
It's okay.

[Speaker 1]
Relax your forehead. Pull in your stomach a little bit. Watch a few breaths, just to park your car.

And now let's try to think, who is shooting arrows at you nowadays? Who's criticizing you? Or hurting you?

[Speaker 2]
We'll spend a few minutes to choose somebody.

[Speaker 1]
Then what was the small seed that I planted to make these arrows?

[Speaker 2]
Maybe I'm still doing it.

[Speaker 1]
Maybe I'm judging other people in my mind quietly all day. Then starting today with one person that I'm judging, can I stop today just judging one person? Then the last part of this meditation is to imagine what's the possible flowers that the arrows will become?

What good thing could come from these arrows?

[Speaker 2]
Maybe that person who's criticizing you might become your good friend.

[Speaker 1]
So, we can't be sure what kind of flower will come.

[Speaker 2]
But let's imagine one.

[Speaker 1]
That this person who criticized us becomes our good friend. Now, take three deep breaths and watch the breaths. Each time you breathe out, imagine you are giving, you are making a gift of these good seeds to someone else.

Golden seeds, gifted heart from heart, heart to heart.

[Speaker 2]
Then you can open your eyes.

[Speaker 1]
Take a stretch. Okay, we'll have a break, 10-15 minutes.

[Speaker 2]
Teachers will be here to answer questions.

[Speaker 1]
I'll be up here if you want to sign a book or take a photo. Thank you. Okay, let's continue with the book.

And I'll do questions in the afternoon. So, try to get your questions ready. I like tough questions.

Not easy questions. Okay? Okay.

UN KYANG KHOR BA DANG NGAN SONG THAG DAG LA'I SKYOB PA LA KHO YIN CHO GSUNG DKA' DRANG DGOS TE For small problems, you can just use one of the Three Jewels. But for big problems, you need the whole team. All Three Jewels.

Okay. DPER NA GNAS PA GNAS PA CHEN PO'I GZIN PA DE GNAS LAS THAR BA LA MED PA MED PA GNAS YOGS GSUM GANG DGOS PA BZHIN When you have a serious illness, you need a doctor, good medicine, and a good nurse. Okay?

All three. Whole team. RANG RES KHOR BA DANG NGAN SONG GI SDUG BSNGAL DANG SRID SHES GYIGS PA CHEN PO'I GNAS LAS THAR BA LA NI People like you and me, we're not just trying to solve financial problems.

That's DCI. ACI class, we are trying to solve the big problems of the world. Death.

Sickness. Aging. And rebirth.

Okay? These are big problems. THAR BA LA'I RGYAL PA LA For protection from those problems, GNAS LAS THAR BA LA NI, BRUL BYED KYI LAM STONG KHYEN MED PA LTA BU SANGS RGYAS We need someone who can help us get free.

Someone who can show us the path, who is like the doctor, and that's a buddha jewel. dul che kye bu sung kyi lam mem tabu chu dang. And we need a teaching, which is like the medicine.

For example, the teaching of the lam rim. chu drub pa'i da drog ne-yo tabu gen dru nang ngepa tsang gu. And we need companions on the path.

We need other people to travel the path with us, and that's a sanggajula. de na gang la kyep su dror yu ni de sum yin. So the real protection is all three.

Okay? For big problems. Then today you're going to start learning debate.

And we have some really good debate teachers, and you're going to learn the details of the three jewels. And if you debate them, you will remember them. Okay?

Debate is like yoga. Okay, Lady Ruth, you have to close your ears. I hate yoga.

Okay? Also, debate make me nervous.

[Speaker 2]
Okay? You know?

[Speaker 1]
In the debate in the monastery, they have nickname for Geshe Michael. It's called Jelly Leng. Okay?

They call me Mr. Jelly Leng.

[Speaker 2]
Okay?

[Speaker 1]
So, you know, sometimes I feel nervous in the debate, and maybe you will feel nervous also. But, just do it, okay? It's like yoga.

In English, we call necessary evil. Okay? You have to do it.

If you debate, you will learn a lot. You won't forget it. And maybe you will have fun.

If you forget you are nervous, or you forget you hate yoga, maybe you will actually have fun.

[Speaker 2]
Okay?

[Speaker 1]
So, just come and have fun. Okay? Most of those monks debating, they don't know what they're talking about.

They just doing very loud. Because have fun. So, don't think I'm right, I'm wrong.

You know? Important part of debate is we call Senggye Ngagyal, like a lion. Then, everything you say is wrong, okay.

You should look like. You're wrong, not me. Okay?

Okay. ,GNYIS PA RGYABS SU, ,RGYABS SU DGOS PA'I RGYUD TSE NI, ,DE'I RTZA'O SANGS RGYAS GWANG SBYOR GYI YUN DE YIN, Okay? Why are these three jewels Captain John?

Why are they good person to help you? There's a list. Usually four different things.

Most of them relate to Buddha Jewel. ,DANG PO NI RANG RGYUD PA THAMS CAD LAS GROL BA STE, ,DE MIN NA CHU KHYER BA SNANG PHYIN TSUN DANG, ,DANG PO CHING PA SNANG PHYIN TSUN, ,DE LAS BRTZON MI NUS SHING DU BRTZON KHAB, There's an important thing about Buddha Jewel. That person escaped the jail already.

They are already free. We are still in the jail. Then a person who's still in the jail cannot help a person who's still in the jail.

In the Wheel of Life, Buddha is outside, pointing to the moon, because not inside the wheel. So it doesn't help if you're looking for someone to protect you from big things, from death, from old age, from going to a bad place after you die. Those normal protectors, doctor, lawyer, stock broker, they are also still in the jail.

They cannot help you much. They are also going to die. My first doctor got multiple sclerosis, got a very bad disease.

And later he come back to the same office as patient. But Buddha is not like that. He got free.

Before we were together in the class, this Buddha sat next to you in class many times before, past life. But he worked harder than we are. So he escaped already.

Then only the person who's already escaped can help the person who's in the jail. In the book, they give two examples. If you fall off the ship, and you are drowning, you cannot expect help from the person next to you who is drowning.

If you are stuck in the dangerous quicksand mud of the swamp, you know, in the movies you are going down in the quicksand. Don't ask the other person going down in the quicksand to help you. Okay?

Doctor is going down in the quicksand. Lawyer. Psychiatrist.

They cannot help you with big problems. They themselves also dying. ,GAL BU'I RANG NI JIG PA THAMS CAD LAS MA GRU NA, ,GZHAN JIG PA THAMS CAD LAS GRU MI NUS, A person who still has all of these terrible things happening to them, cannot help another person who's having terrible things happening to them.

Then, Pabongka Rinpoche, in the original teaching, he told three or four long stories from the ancient sutras about why is Buddha free from all of this trouble already. Here's the first one. ,DON PA SANGS RGYAS NI JIG PA THAMS CAD NAS, ,GRU BA YIN PA, ,SNGON LAS BYIN GYIS SANGS RGYAS STONG BAR BSAM STE, ,GAL GTOGS PA'ANG KYANG GNOD MA THUB PA DANG, So, during the Buddha's time, it often happens that when a person tries to teach a really new idea in the world, other people get upset.

Like Jesus. So, Jesus was killed because trying to teach this beautiful system. And I think many of us don't know the story, but during ...

or Mahatma Gandhi was killed. But during Buddha's time, several people tried to kill him. And then they couldn't succeed because he's turning the arrows into flowers.

But Pabongka Rinpoche told this story of how the Buddha's half-brother, Devadatta, Devadatta, tried to kill him. Several times. Okay, so, this book, these are notes of a lecture.

This is like the student took notes. The student's name was Khyabje Chikyang Rinpoche. He was my teacher's teacher.

Okay, so, we have a big connection to this. Then it took him many years to finish it. And some long stories, he said, it's too much.

But I want to tell the whole story. So, I went to the old sutras, which is only possible because they're all on computer now. So, there are about 5,000 ancient sutras from India.

In Tibetan language, translated from Sanskrit. Then 30 years ago, we started a project to put them into the computer by hand. And it took 25 years to finish all the books from India.

And I'd like to thank the director, John Brady. So, I used John Brady's online library, and I got the story for you. The whole story.

It's a long story. That's why they didn't put it in the book. But I want to do this teaching very slow and thorough.

So, let's do the whole story. Okay, here we go. So, you won't see it on the ...

It won't be on the screen. By the way, this comes from Vinaya. Vastu.

It's called the foundation of Vinaya. The fourth book. SHEN YANG LAS BYIN GYI MA SKYES DRA LA MED PAR So, Devadatta, the Buddha's half-brother who hated the Buddha because he was so jealous.

I'll tell you a DCI joke. We often say it in DCI. I don't know why I have to see a sutra about a jealous guy.

Understand? It means I have jealousy. A lot.

So, I have to find a sutra about a jealous guy because it's coming from me. Even the sutra is coming from me. LAS BYIN GYI MA SKYES DRA LA MED So, there was a prince named Ajatashatru.

The name shatru means enemy. Shatru means born. Ajata means not born.

When he was still inside his mom, somebody told his father, if this boy is born, when he grows up, he will kill you. His father's name is Bimbisara. So, his name of the son is called he was the enemy even before he was born.

So, when he was prince, he was plotting with Buddha's half-brother. They are making bad plans. So, Devadatta said to the prince, KHO BO NI KHYOD RGYAL SRID LA SHAGS KYIS I will make you king.

KHYOD KYIS KYANG KHO BO SANGS RGYAS GNYIS DU CHUD KHO And you make me the new Buddha. I will make you king. We will kill your father.

Okay, then you make an announcement. The old Buddha is kicked out. Now, Devadatta is the new Buddha.

Then the prince said to Devadatta, DE MED PAR BYUNG LDAN BDE GYI SHABS KYIS THI LA NI KHO LUS TSEN GYI BRTZEN PA'I LTA YOD NA KHYOD KYIS GANG PAS THI LA NI KHO LUS TSEN GYI BRTZEN PA'I LTA MED DO It means, yeah, that's a good idea. But there's a problem. What did we study about signs and marks last retreat?

We spent like three days on them. How many major signs? Thirty-two.

Minor signs. Eighty. Okay, one of the main ones is that Buddha has a natural drawing on his hand.

The skin grows into the shape of a wheel. Dharma wheel. Eight spokes.

The eight spokes are the eight parts of Arya's path. There are eight spokes. And the eight spokes represent the eight qualities of the Buddha.

And the wheel shape, it represents that the teacher teaches the student, the next student becomes the teacher of the next student, that student becomes the teacher of the next generation to generation. So you are the next generation teacher. I will retire and sit on my porch in the rocking chair.

Then Stanley will teach the next generation. Then you guys, you know, Sabrina, you guys have to teach the next generation. Then you come to see me, yeah, we had a good program in Phuket.

Tell me about it. Oh, yeah, we had, yeah, a lot of people came. That's the meaning of the wheel.

So the prince said to Devadatta, that sounds like a cool idea, but there's a problem. You don't have these wheels on your hands and your feet. You don't have these wheels.

So even if I declare you are Buddha, nobody will believe. By the way, what's the karma for those wheels? You guys remember?

Yeah, it's helping your teacher basically. Okay. One of the causes, if you do prostration to your teachers, then you get these wheels.

And Devadatta said, no problem, I will get some wheels on my feet. Jagannam Guk, he called some blacksmith, the guys who make metal. Gugne Mampa, Gangdilakornti Nusam, can you burn a wheel into my feet?

With the hot metal. Okay. Dey Nam Kyi Mepa, Pabpa Gyalte Tsolwa, not puh, no.

Hey, if you can take it, we can do it. Okay. For us to do it, no problem.

But if you can take it, we don't know. Puh ki, I can do it. Jealousy and pride go together.

I don't know why I have to see a book about pride. Dey Nam Kyi Sambha. Then the blacksmith thought to them, Di Thudan Denpa Yinpe, this guy is like pretty high in the kingdom, he's like king's friend.

Gyalte Dishin Drudrina, if we burn wheels into his feet, Dope Daksha Sotantravargya, there's a chance he will get so angry he will kill us. Nekayenpa Deni, Yudhon Yamne, then they said, how can we protect ourselves and also put the drawing on his feet? Then one of them had a smart idea.

We will make a hole in the wall of Devadatta's house. We put a chair in front of the hole. Tell him to put his feet through the hole.

Then we can stand on the other side, outside. Then we burn his feet and run. Pabpatthipu Bhuguddhir Kambanyi Chukchik, then they said, they called him Arya, oh respected one, just put your feet in this hole.

Deychebibhugar Kambanyi Chukpadam, so he put his two feet in the hole of the wall. Jagga Namke, korlo me kardo du dupa chenay kampa sepa dang, and they branded his feet. And they ran.

Dey dungyel kyi mi sepa, tsawa tsupa yidu, tsorway nyam tu nyurwa ngyurwa, he starts screaming. Do it like me! Gela Namke, kolika la jipay, la jin kar na chok, kage mo chik na, gampi ti la korlo ta dupa, then the monks were watching, the other monks were watching this.

Then they went to, there was a senior monk named Kokkalika. Kokkalika. And they asked him, what's the karma this stupid guy do to get his feet burned like this?

Pat's life, what did he do? Gela Nam chok der songwa dang, dey nam kyi dungyel kyi tsorway, nyam chukgu chok dunpa tunay, dey nam chok der ne kyi chengwa, Gela Nam thetsam kye ne, thetsam tam je chupa, So he said, go ask the Buddha. Then they went to the Buddha.

Thetsam tam je chupa, he's the one who can resolve all doubts. sanggye chomden dey la shupa, they said, oh Buddha, tsunpa le jin gampe ti la korlo ta, dun du nyenwa dungyel mi sepa, tsawa tsupa yidro mi chepa, mi cheway tsawa nyam su nyongwa gyurpa la sik, did you see what happened to Devadatta? chomden de kyi katsawa, then Buddha answered, gelong dak di tar kyi dip ba shi du ma se kyi, ji tar de pe tunay yang di kang che kyi, chir tsu ma yin pe dungyelwa gyurpa de nyon che, Buddha said, this ain't the first time he did a stupid thing with his feet.

gelong dak ngun chungwa kangchen la lambo che shi yod pa, chu tung duk pa pe de shin, then many hundreds of years ago, in these Himalaya mountains, there was an elephant, and he was trying to get some water. I don't think you find it in here, but anyway, so he was, that's a different elephant, that elephant's coming later. So the elephant was jumping around looking for water, and there was a fox was following the elephant.

So those of you studying Tibetan, there's only one Tibetan word with, there's one letter in the alphabet which is only used in one common word, which is fox, wa, wa, okay? He saw the footprints of the elephant, and even the fox had pride, I don't know why I have to read about a fox. He said, I can walk same as an elephant.

So he put one foot in the elephant track, then he goes, jump and put the next foot in there. Then he's like, I can step as big as an elephant, and he kept doing that, chung shi chung shi ten du kham pa jokpa na, dong bu kyu khak shik gi ten du dek chu pa gyur to, then he hit a tree trunk, and he like broke his leg. He said, that fox was Devadatta.

That's why he got his feet burned. Okay, pride, about his feet. lungpo kye kyi min drakway, then the Buddha said a poem, dun me lo di pong chu shik ngawa topa gyur ta re, give up this stupid attempt to put wheels on your feet.

The better way to get wheels on your feet is to honor your teacher, right? kye lung da di ji nyam du sem, de tse de du kyi wa kang yinpa de ni, she jin din yi yin te, then he told the monks, the fox was Devadatta. Devadatta told the story of the fox to the monks.

de na yang di kang je kyi chir, tsul ma yinpe dun nyamwa gyur to, he suffered in past life about footprints. ta tar yang di kang ti la, kor lu ta dun du nyamwa chir, dun nyam mi sepa tsawa tsupa, yi du mi ongway tsowa, nyam su nyamwa gyur to, and that's why he's having foot problems now. sang gye chenpoy de, gyalpo kap jaga pangpo ri la, nye chen kunpo ri ne na shuk so, then that scene changes to Rajagrha.

So, Rajagrha is a special mountain in India. What famous thing happened at Rajagrha? Yeah, Buddha spoke shin ching on this mountain.

So, Buddha was staying on that mountain. At that time, the mountain had a second name. Well, two second names.

Jagapangpo ri la means the mountain that looks like a vulture vulture bird. Shaped like that. And in those times, it had another name.

The place of the spirit called Kumbhiri. So, there was a powerful spirit who lived on vulture's peak. Rajagrha.

And his name is Kumbhiri. le geng gi yang ma kye dra la me pa, Devadatta started trouble again. And he asked for a meeting with the prince.

ajatashatru. ko wa kyu ni gyel si la shar na kyu kyi ko sang gye su shuk ma nyu na Okay, our last plan didn't work out so good. But I have a new plan.

I don't know why I have to see a sutra about guy keep doing the same stupid thing. ku gyel si la shar, I'll make you king. And I understand you don't think you can make me Buddha to replace this other Buddha.

So, I'm going to change the plan a little bit. I will kill that Buddha. Then it doesn't matter I have wheel on my feet or not.

He will be dead. People won't be able to see his wheels. Then you just declare I'm the new Buddha.

kyu kyi si se dang kang du sem ma ma shik And you can deny that you know anything how he died. The prince said, de me pa de shin du gi shik Sounds like a good plan. ji tsang ho chok na ne chu kor kyi gyu tsel kyi lo pen shi o ne le jing de guk te So, Devadatta hired a guy from southern India.

He knew how to make special machines out of wood, right? And there's a special machine used in the old days. It throws the rock over the city wall.

In Tibetan, it's called dogyo. In English, it's called catapult. So, he hired a guy who knew how to make catapults.

me pa kye lo pen kyi kyi mi ngap gye penpa de tabu gyok nusam Can you make a catapult that will send so many stones? It's like 500 guys throwing stones. de me pa papa nusam I can do it.

de la mu tik gi do shok kya tong rilwa chin shing Devadatta paid the machine maker a bribe. You know, like a payment. And it was the value of like kya tong, 100,000 expensive pearls.

Then he said, set up your machine on the top of the mountain. Rajgirha Mountain. You can visit it nowadays.

Someday we should go together see those holy places. It's a good way to get diarrhea. And then from the top, when he's walking up the mountain, we will kill him.

And to be safe, the guy brought 500 soldiers with him. To help with the machines. And he hired more soldiers.

250 stay over there. 250 stay over there. If the stone doesn't kill Buddha, then you run up and kill him with your sword.

So there's like 1,000 guys waiting to kill Buddha. DE DON DU GNAS GZHAN DU GNAS GZHAN DU YANG MI RNAMS KUS DU BCUG NAS So, three places he put soldiers. KHYAD CHAGS GANG GI DGOR RGYAS SBYONG RGA LTA MA DBANG DANG DE'A'A'KHIS TSOD CIG So, no matter which direction he comes from, please kill him.

BDAG NYID KYANG CHOG GZHAN ZHIG DU SDUG NAS RGYAS SBYONG RGA LTA MA YANG MI RNAMS KIS ZHOG BA DANG DAG NYID KYI GSOD NYAMS Then Devadatta himself got a sword. And he also waited in a place where maybe if the Buddha gets hurt, he will run that way. JI TZAM LA MED NABS SKYES RGYAL PHAR BA MTSAMS TE 500 soldiers start to shoot these catapults.

SU PHYIR RGYAL PHANG CI TZAM LA SANGS RGYAS BYAMS DANG DE ZHUGS NA ZHUGS PA MTHONG NAS Then they start to see the Buddha's coming, and they're starting to shoot them. Then they saw it's Buddha. Then they said to Devadatta, ZHES BSTAN DANG RANG GI SOGS STANGS NA NI LA'I LHA DANG MI'I SPYOD PA'I SANGS RGYAS BYAMS DE DE SDONG PA NI DE LTAR MA YIN GYI RGYOG PO RO ZHES BSTAN DANG GI RGYOG PO NAS They said, you didn't tell us the guy we're supposed to kill is a Buddha.

We can't kill Buddha. It's better we die than to kill Buddha. You know, they thought like that.

And they ran away from the catapult. BYA RGYA PHUN PO'I RI LA PHAN TZAM DU RGYUD ZHING GNAS GANG ZHIG NAS Then the whole mountain, soldiers are going, whoa, whoa, whoa! TSE CING YIN MI MTHONG BA RGYUR GNYEN MO Then Devadatta said, what's going on?

What's going on? DE RNAMS KYIS BSAM PA BYAMS TE DE GYI THUGS SU SPYOD NAS Then the Buddha's reading their minds. Then he said, this would be a cool opportunity to have a Dharma class.

Carol, you and your husband, they have a hotel, right? Your friend. Yeah, anyway.

They gave me a nice place in a hotel in Taichung. Then I thought, this is a cool place to have a Dharma class. Way up on top.

We are in the clouds. So we had Dharma class. Then Buddha was thinking like that.

This is cool, you know. Like a thousand guys running around. So he goes, whoo, whoo, whoo.

And he made a staircase. Crystal staircase. All the way up to the mountain.

He said, hey you dudes, come down. Let's have a Dharma class. DE RNAMS KYIS BSTAN PA'I DE MTHONG NAS DE NYAMS DU BSTAN PA'I SHES RIN DAG BSTAN PA'I DE SU TSUGS NYAMS PA DE NYID BYAMS PAS DE They were like, who made the staircase?

BYAMS PAS DE GYI MTHU'I YIN NO NYAMS NAS Yeah, the Buddha, that guy down there, he made the staircase. BYAMS PAS DE LA SEMS SNGON PA DE PA RGYUR TE Then they're like, wow. We shouldn't kill this guy.

We should go study with him. THAMS CAD DE LA BAB NAS They all ran down the stairs. BYAMS PAS DE GANG NA BA DER MTHONG NGO And they went to the Buddha.

BYAMS PAS DE'I KHYANG DE DAG BSDUL BA KHO NA LA BSTOD NAS BYA RGYUD PON PAR YI LA CHAGS SHING ZHUGS SO Then Buddha sat down. DE NAS DE RNAMS KYIS BYAMS PAS DE GYI SHAB GNYIS LA DGOR BA'I CHAGS CHE STE CHOS NYAMS PA'I PHYIR NA CHEN NGAG SDUG BSNGAL Everybody ran up to him. Touched their head to his feet.

And said, please teach us Dharma. BYAMS PAS DE GYI DE RNAMS KYIS SANGS PA DANG PA LA NYAMS PA DANG GANG DANG LANG BZHIN KHYER NAS GANG THOD PA'I BAB PA'I BSTAN PA ZHIG SO SO RTOG PA RGYUR BA DE LTA BU'I CHOS BSHAD PA MDZAD He read their minds. Buddha always does ...

he teach that way. He like ... read your mind.

He walk around your mind. He said, oh, what this person need right now? Then he decide ...

they need four truths. If I teach them four truths, this is going to be amazing. DE RNAMS KYIS JIGS SO LA LTA BA'I RIGS SANGS PO NYID SHUG MTHONG BA'I YOD ZHIG GI DOR BYED CHOM NAS Then that Buddha took the Diamond of Wisdom.

And he smashed the mountain of their wrong ideas. Yeah. About themselves.

Who made my arm? Who made my legs? Who gave me my thoughts?

Where are the thoughts in your own mind which only you hear in private? Where are they coming from? They are coming out of seeds in your mind.

You are not talking in your mind, you are listening to seeds opening in your mind. You are not the talker, you are the hearer. Your own body, your own mind coming from your seeds.

Then they didn't understand that before. Each one had a mountain of wrong ideas. And the Buddha took, you know Vajra?

And he smashed those mountains. How many parts does a person have according to their hearts? Five.

About each part, there are four classic wrong ideas. So we call them the twenty mountains of wrong ideas. So for each person, Buddha broke those twenty mountains with his teaching.

And because of that, they saw the truth. Like one thousand soldiers. What's it mean?

Saw emptiness directly. One thousand guys. Ten minutes ago they tried to kill him.

Now they saw emptiness directly. Okay? Cool teaching.

Okay. That's another story. Let me see.

Okay. Then he repeated the teaching three times. Then they all saw emptiness directly.

And they said to Buddha, RANG GI SKYE BA DANG Okay? Buddha, you just did something for us that our own mother and father didn't ever do. You did something for us that the government could never do.

You did something for us that even the gods in the sky cannot do. RANG GI SKYE BA DANG NYEN GYI TSOGS KYI MA LA Even our children couldn't do, nobody could do. SNGON GYI BDE PA NANG GI MA LA All the people that we knew in our life couldn't help us like this.

You saved us from becoming spirit. You even saved us from becoming human again. KHOR BA'I MTHAR NI RGYAS You stopped the wheel.

PHRAG DANG PHYI MA'I RGYA MTSO NI GAM You have dried up the ocean of tears and blood. RIGS KYI MTHAR NI RGYA MTSO NI GAM You have dried up the ocean of tears and blood. GRUB PA'I RIGS BU NI BRAL You have destroyed the mountain of bones.

It means all the bodies you died in before. NYAN CIG GI SGO RNAMS NI KUN You have shut the door to the lower realms. MTHO RE DANG THAR PA'I SGO RNAMS NI BYED You opened the door to freedom.

MTHO MA MED PA'I BRAL NAS THAR PA'I PHYI TZAM LA LTA BA'I TSAD RIGS MO TSEN MO NYID SHUG THO BA YOD ZHIG GIS DOR BYED CHOM NAS You have destroyed the mountain of our wrong ideas. RGYUN DU ZHUGS PA'I BRAL BU NGON GSUM DU GYIS TE And we just became Aryas!

[Speaker 2]
They're like, yay!

[Speaker 1]
Okay. CHUN PA DA'I Okay. CHUN PA DAG CHAGS NI PHAGS SO NGON PA PHAGS SO DAG GIS BYAMS PA DE DE DANG PHYIR DU NGES RANG GI RGYUN DE LA KHYAB TSER CI LA RGYI We are Aryas.

We take refugees. No, we are the refugees. And please be our teacher forever.
