[Speaker 1] We're going to go straight into the second meditation. Somebody holding somebody else's hand. A small happiness in your life. To touch another person. Or to hear some music. Or the feeling of some fresh air on your face. Okay? Someone touching you, that you like. To hear some music. To feel some nice breeze on your face. All the happinesses in your life. There are two kinds of happiness in your life. One is inside. You know, like you are, I don't know, I was drinking a coffee an hour ago, and it just felt happy, you know? I felt really happy. So inside there's some feeling of happiness. And then someone touches your arm. Or you feel the wind on your face. You hear a beautiful song. Where did they come from? Then we have wrong view. Oh, it's Spotify. [Speaker 2] You know? [Speaker 1] Spotify brought me this song. I have to buy Spotify. What's that one you use for the ... I use Soundhouse. Oh, Shazam. If I want more music, I should hit Shazam. Or maybe if I drink or eat something, it has something inside of it that makes me happy. Like a glass of wine. Or my favorite song. Or some YouTube video that I think I will enjoy. Then we believe there's something inside the video. There's something inside the song. There's something inside the wine that will make me happy. But it's not true. It's obviously not true. Why? It doesn't work every time. You drink a glass of wine, nothing happens. You drink another one, you get grumpy. You put Spotify. And then it plays like Beach Boys for like an hour. And you hold your friend's hand. And they're like, can we not do that all the time? So it's not in the hand. It's not in Spotify. And it's not in the wine. It's in the cause of the cause. Every time you felt happy, it's because Joe did something nice to other people in ten ways, right? Ten ways. Joe respected life. Joe was definitely a vegetarian. No, if Joe wasn't vegetarian, you wouldn't be here now. Okay? Then Joe, Joe respected other people's things. You know? Joe found a pen on the floor of Joe's room and Joe went to every person and said, is this your pen? Is this your pen? Joe found a pen in a room and he went to ask everyone to see whose pen it was. Joe respected other people's relationships. You know? Some girl came up to Joe and said, I like you. And Joe said, Joe said, what's the ring on your finger? Joe was like, you know, you're cute, but I don't want to mess up my karma. Every time you hurt another person's relationship, because you are attracted to someone, that person will hurt you later. Because it's bad karma. But Geshe-la, he's so cute. If you control yourself, a much, much, much cuter one will come. Okay? Unbelievable. Just control yourself for five minutes. You know, you're married. I'm sorry. You're cute. You wear nice clothes. If I met you earlier in my life, maybe. But, you're married. You know? Then, just control yourself. I guarantee you, within a year, if you do lots of coffee, Ming Chang, you will get ten times better one, because you control yourself. So, Joe did it. You know? Then, Joe always told the truth. How many people came to Mexico City program? Geshe Michael will say, one thousand. Alfredo will say, Geshe-la, it was eight hundred and nineteen. He tried to tell the truth. And then, Joe's always ... Joe knows things that if he tells to Andy Lu, Alejandro will not like her, or she won't like Alejandro. If I tell you a secret about Alejandro someday, what he said about you yesterday, then we know things about people. If we want to destroy a friendship, we can do it. But Joe didn't do that. Joe did the opposite. You can't believe the cool thing that Alejandro told me about you yesterday. He said, we're so lucky Andy Lu didn't stay in Australia. Joe was always bringing people together. Then Joe never said rough words. In my university, I had the same roommates for the whole time. Excuse me. One, my name, those two call me shit face. Then I call them dick nose. But we love each other. It's just like friend, you know. And sometimes you say, like policemen stop you, you know. And you use very polite word. Like, yes, sir. Then that one is harsh word. The word is respectful. But the feeling is, I hate you. Then, hey, shit face. That's with love. That's with love. That's not a bad word. You say it because you love each other. So Joe always saying nice words to people in the meaning. Did Joe never waste his time talking about football? Or did you hear how the terrorists killed this person yesterday? I know all the details. I read CNN. For half an hour, I can tell you how the terrorists killed the person. But it doesn't help anything. Just waste of time. Stop your own violence. Then you can fix that problem. But just, you know, like, wow, did you hear what happened yesterday? Just wasting time. Joe never wasted his time. If Joe didn't have anything good to say, Joe didn't say anything. There's a word in English. It's called comfortable silence. Like, if you have a really good friend, you don't have to fill in the time with words. You can hang out together in comfortable silence. Just enjoy the sun. Enjoy the trees. You don't have to talk. So Joe was very good at that. Then whenever Joe saw somebody succeed, Joe was congratulating them. When some 18 year old guy do Ashtanga Yoga next to me, then I feel like, stop that. But Joe didn't talk like that. Joe's like, man, you are so cool. Then when Joe saw something bad happen to somebody, Joe wasn't like, wow, tell me everything about it. Her husband left her yesterday. Oh, I'm so sorry. What happened? What did she say? How did she look? Joe didn't do that. Joe was like, can I help you? Okay, just trying to help. Then, last one. I'm doing the ten good karmas, right? Last one. Joe understands when his wife yelled at him, called him stupid, Joe didn't answer, no, you are stupid. Because Joe understands when you call your wife stupid after she calls you stupid, then your wife will call you stupid again next week. So Joe controlled himself thousands and thousands of times in his life. And because of Joe, you have your favorite songs. And when you eat, I don't know, churro, it tastes super delicious. You didn't do it and the baker didn't do it. Joe put the delicioso in the churro. And if Joe didn't do that, the churro would taste bad to you. Alright, understand? So, every little nice thing in your life, Joe worked thousands and thousands of nice things for other people to give you that. So now we're going to do a meditation. Get ready. The second picture, second picture. [Speaker 2] Relax your eyes. Watch your breath. [Speaker 1] Relax your fingers. [Speaker 2] Relax your forehead. Little bit of a smile. Think about one nice feeling you had this week. [Speaker 1] Think about one nice feeling you had this week. Maybe you saw something beautiful like the sky over Amititan. [Speaker 2] Maybe you heard a beautiful song. [Speaker 1] Maybe the feeling of your clothes on your body was very nice. Then think of where did those things come from. It was all from Joe. Okay, go. Meditate. [Speaker 2] Small, beautiful things that happened to you. Please come back to your breath. Three breaths. Then slowly open your eyes. Take a good stretch. [Speaker 1] Stretch. Okay, let's do some text. We're at CHANG CHUG GI SEMS. There you go, at the bottom. CHANG CHUG GI SEMS YANG MI BRTEN NA SKYES PA NYID RTOG BYED TE There are many kinds of bodies. Animal body, ghost body, hell body, pleasure being body, and human body. If you want to get bodhichitta, the best one is a human body. Bodhichitta has two parts. Adam, SEMS SKYES KYI BRTEN NAS ZHAG GI MED PA'I PHYIR Nobody can tell me the definition of bodhichitta. No, first you say CI PHYIR. THAG MA GRUB Then SHOG Yeah, say SEMS SKYES PA NYID GZHAN DANG PHYIR YANG DAG RDZOGS PAS CHANG CHUB BDE Bodhichitta means to help the whole world, I will become a Buddha. It has two parts. Then only a human can think like that. Okay, I like DCI because we get to go to many countries. Scott added up all the cities recently. Historically, we have visited 75 cities in the world, and everywhere, crazy cities, like Novi Sad. This is a small city in Serbia. Or JB, Johor Bahru. Where's that? Malaysia. Okay, and places like, where is ... what is that place? Shibu ... Takako's place. Yeah, where is Shizuoka? Yeah, Tokyo, outside Tokyo. So, we've been to many unusual places. But when you work for DCI, you feel like you're helping the whole world because you're going to the whole world. But without a human body, without human equipment, you can't have that desire. I love dogs, and I really love bees. And I like ... what are they called? Taohis. Taohi. Taohi is a kind of bird. When I was in three year retreat, they used to talk to me a lot. Come here. Come here. Come here. Come here. Meep, meep. They say, come here and meep, meep. When there's a snake inside my fence, they go, meep, meep, meep, meep. But they can't make a plan to travel around the world and try to help everybody. And they don't think about it. Meep, meep. I should help all the birds in the world. They don't think like that. You have the equipment to have that feeling that I would like to help people. Okay. So, then he quotes a book by Chandragomi. It's called LOP CHENG. LOP CHENG means letter to my student. And you know this writer because he wrote the twenty verses on Bodhisattvas around 650 A.D. 1,300 years ago. So, when you study Bodhisattva vows, most of them come from his book. And he says this, SEMS KYI RTOGS CAN MI'I NYES PA GANG YIN PA LAM DE SA DANG LUS YI NYE MIN SA MIN LAM DE SA DANG LUS YI NYE MIN SA MIN DANG GANG SDUG BSNGAL RIMS CAN MI'I YANG PHYI DANG RTOGS CAN MIN Then he lists kind of creatures who cannot have this idea to help the whole world. SEMS KYI RTOGS CAN means powerful wish. MI'I NYES PA GANG YIN PA Only humans have it. LAM DE SA DANG LUS YI NYE MIN SA MIN DANG So, pleasure beings who are in the temporary heaven, they're just enjoying themselves. Someone who just wants to surf in the best surfing place, or ski in the best skiing place, or go to Hawaii all the time, they're not thinking about helping the whole world. By the way, it doesn't mean that a person who's helping the whole world cannot go to Hawaii and surf a little bit. It's important for Dharma people to understand how to relax. And you will find that the best meditators know how to have the best surf trip. They know how to relax well, and they enjoy it more than other people. And then LUS means like a dragon. LUNG LUS means water dragon. They live in rivers and oceans. They make rain fall. But they don't think, I want to do this to help everybody. They don't have this idea. They're very powerful creatures, but they can't have the idea to help the whole world. LUS YIN GNYIS MI'I LHA MIN DANG GANG SDUG BSNGAL You guys know what GANG SDUG BSNGAL is, right? You know a nun named GANG SDUG BSNGAL. Yeah, it means this mythical, like a phoenix. A powerful bird like a phoenix. And they can fly around the world in two or three days. Very powerful, and very beautiful. But they can't think, I want to help the whole world. They can't think it. RIGS BRDZIN RIGS BRDZIN means, how do you say? RIGS means knowledge. BRDZIN means to hold. Then in some schools of Buddhism, RIGS BRDZIN means like a lineage holder or something like that. But here, 1,300 years ago, it just means like super genius person. I don't know, like Stephen Hawking or, okay, but didn't have this intention that I want to help the whole world. Say MI'AM CI. MI'AM CI This is a good dictionary entry, okay, because it's weird. Say MI'AM CI. MI means human. AM means or. AM means or. Or. And CI means what. What. So MI'AM CI means, what the heck is that? And it's a name of a kind of spirit. In Buddhism, it's called, what the heck is that? It's a kind of spirit. Then they are pretty powerful. Did you have a question Nick? Yeah, these people are, these beings are not able to think, I would like to fly around the world on United premium class and help people. It's just looking at intelligent people as part of that. Yeah, it means like a super intelligent, it actually, it means a super intelligent non-human. Like a deva with super intelligence. When Einstein made the atom bomb, he had this idea, I think we can make a bomb. And he wrote to the American president, Roosevelt, I think we can make a really big bomb. And then the American government gave millions and millions of dollars. And they made a bomb. They tested it near Arizona. And 10% chance it will burn up the whole world. That the oxygen will catch fire everywhere. And they're like, let's see if it does or not. You know, they're so funny. They're like, let's see if it burns up the whole world. They're just interested in science. They don't think it will also kill them. They're just like, five, four, three, two. Hey, it didn't burn up the world. Like that. Then later his mind changed. He became very anti-war. And he said, this is the worst thing I ever did. He said, this is the worst thing I ever did. The last one is called THO CHE. THO CHE means the last one. THO CHE is a translation of Sanskrit, URU GATI. Say URU. URU GATI GATI URU GATI URU GATI URU is the sandhi of URUS. URUS means the belly or the chest. It's Sanskrit. This is called URUS. URUS Then GATI means what? You know, jetty, jetty, bolo, jetty, bolo, sun, jetty, go. Go, go. Gone, gone. So, URUS GATI THO CHE means the creature which travels on its stomach. Who is that? Yeah, a snake. There's some yoga posts called that. Okay. [Speaker 2] Bhujanga yoga. [Speaker 1] Yeah, Bhujanga. Who has the chest for a leg or something like that. So, here it doesn't mean a normal snake. There are special demons who work for the Lord of Death. Very powerful. They have a weird karma. They have a strange karma. They made the karma to be the boss, but they hurt a lot of people. So, they are born as the boss of hell. They also have to stay in the hell from their bad karma. From their good karma, they get to be the boss of everybody in the hell. It's like the boss of bathroom cleaners or something like that. Then they are very powerful. In the hells, when you go to the hell, they are the boss. They do terrible things to people. But they cannot have this idea to help people, to change the world. It cannot come in their mind. SANG SNGAGS KYI SDONG PA'ANG DE DANG BRAG SANG SNGAGS KYI SDONG PA'ANG DE DANG BRAG What's SANG SNGAGS mean in... What's SNGAGS mean in Sanskrit? Mantra. Mantra. SANG SNGAGS means the path of mantra, secret mantra. This is the Tibetan word for tantra. Vajrayana. Diamond path. And that means secret Buddhism. Okay. SANG SNGAGS KYI SDONG PA'ANG DE DANG BRAG What's SDONG PA? Vows. Yeah. So now he's going to talk about secret vows. There are three kinds of vows. Morality vows we talked about this morning. Don't kill human. Don't steal anything more than ten dollars. Don't mess around with married people or committed relationship. Don't lie about your spiritual life. What's the last one? No drugs or alcohol. Then there's bodhisattva vows. BDAG TU GZHAN MO'I CHOS NA MI LA BZHIN BDAG TU GZHAN MO'I CHOS NA MI LA BZHIN BDAG TU GZHAN MO'I First one is praise yourself. Criticize other people. ZHAGS KYI MI NI DE CHEN PO NA, KHO BYED KHO NA, SPYOD PO NGES MI RNGUB SEMS MNGON NA RANG LO DANG, SROG MA BYANG CHOG MI BSTAN NA, SROG BYANG RDOG These are the bodhisattva vows. It means vows to help other people. Morality vows are vows not to hurt other people. Bodhisattva vows are vows to serve other people. And then there's secret vows. What are they? THAMS CAD KHYEN PAR GRUB PA'ANG, BSTAN GYIS BSTAN DU NAS, RTOGS CHE ZHING BSANGS LA You have the best equipment to practice secret Buddhism. You have the best mind and the best body. THAMS CAD KHYEN PAR GRUB PA'ANG BSTAN means if you want to get to Buddhahood quickly. This is the most powerful equipment you can have. DER MA ZAD Not only that, LAS DANG PO'I means beginners, no experience, just came to their first Buddhist class. SANG SNGAGS KYI LAM NAS If they can learn the secret Buddhism, TSE GCIG LUS GCIG in one body, in one life, TZONG RGYAL BA'I BSTAN LA TSE GCIG LUS GCIG LA TZONG RGYAL BA'I BSTAN they can become Buddha if they practice this path. BSTAN LA LAS KYIS ZA PA This is, we should have a dictionary entry, okay? Say LAS KYIS ZA PA LAS KYIS ZA PA You could say practitioner. Literally it means a person who lives on the ground of karma. So there's LAS KYIS ZA PA and LONG BCUG KYI ZA PA You can be LAS KYIS ZA PA or LONG BCUG KYI ZA PA. Are you a net server or are you a net consumer? On the balance of giving or taking, are you mainly a giver or are you mainly a taker? Are you someone who's planting a lot of new seeds or are you someone who's eating up Joe's debit card? You know people like that. Like, especially like rich kids who inherit their parents' money. The LAS KYIS ZA PA they will take that money and double it with hard work. Then the LONG BCUG KYI ZA PA they will just eat that money. Spend it. And then sometimes they run out. So in our lifetime you have a choice. Do you want to be a ... What did I call the first word? In English. Net ... Are you a net practitioner or are you a net consumer? It's a nice translation. Are you a ... Are you a server or a ... consumer? Are you a server or a consumer? Joe gave you a human body. Joe gave you two arms. Joe gave you very high intelligence. Are you going to use that to serve the world? Or are you going to use it to just consume as many things as you can? Which one you're going to be? The only people who can practice tantra are the first kind. Servers. Only server can become a Buddha in one lifetime. Consumer cannot. So in our world it's easy to be a server. There's lots of people who need you in Guadalajara, in Guangzhou, everywhere. There's lots of people to serve. My Lama used to say there are two good businesses in the whole world. I said, Rinpoche, what's the two good businesses? What's the first one? The first best business is selling alcohol. Then I'm like, Rinpoche, you became a monk when you were seven years old. You never tasted alcohol in your whole life. Yeah, but I can see it's a really good business. Why? What do people do when they're happy? They get drunk. They celebrate. Have some champagne. Then what do people do when they get sad? They buy some whiskey, get drunk. So, you have lots of customers. Everybody who's happy and everybody who's sad. That's everybody. Great business. What's the second good business? Helping people who need help. Why? You got so many customers. Everybody needs help sometimes. People who like to help other people always have a job. They're never unemployed. So, those are the two good businesses. Then if you help other people, you can become a Buddha in this lifetime. And you don't just use up your good karma. In Buddhist geography, you know, this world, if say, this one is our continent, people who live in our world, they have the equipment to be servers. So, in the Buddhist scriptures, when you say LAS KYIS ZA PA, servers, they are Zambo Limpas, people who live in this world. It's easy for us to serve. There's lots of people who need us and want help. In those other three continents, there's not many people to help because you have a definite lifespan. They never die young. So, nobody's like worried. Okay, so those people are consumers. They're just going surfing, you know, go drink tequila, do sunbathing. They're just enjoying themselves. They're burning good karma. Only a server can become a Buddha in this life. Okay, now it's cool because he put a little bit of tantra in his open book. So, I get to teach you a little bit of tantra. I taught those guys seven years tantra. Ten thousand pages of tantra. So, when you're ready, I'm ready. But you have to finish the eighteen courses or I won't give you tantra. I'm very happy. Guadalajara team is most advanced team in the world. They are doing all their courses and they are reaching their tantra. Okay, so here are some things. You need to be a server to practice tantra. And you have to be mi ngyel kye. Say ngyel kye. You have to be born out of a womb. Then there's other kinds of birth. gong kye. There's four kinds in Buddhism. Say gong kye. Born from an egg. Like chicken or a snake. Then there's trishele kyewa. It means born from warmth and moisture. Like mosquitoes or something. Because their eggs were too small to see in the old Buddhist times. So the old Buddhists said, oh these come out of warm water. Then there's dzu te kye. dzu te kye means born, miracle born, like Jesus or Buddha. Buddha was born out of his mother's side. Without all that trouble in Melda, where are you? She's not here. She's like something strange. And she leaned on a tree. And he came out. I had a kid. Patanjali. Patanjali. Patat means fell down. Patat in Sanskrit. Patat. Falling down. Patat. Anjali means the sacred water that you offered in a puja. Then this baby, Patat Anjali, he fell into the water. And they joined the word together. There's a special kind of sandhi, Sanskrit connection. What's it called? The tea drops off and you get Patanjali. Patanjali. So in Tibetan his name is chur hum. It means fell into the water. That's a dzu te kye. That's a miracle birth. Or Jesus born without a sex, without a father. And then there's nyal kye. So there's eggs. Warmth and moisture. Miracle birth. And then there's born from a mother's womb. Only the fourth one can become Buddha in one lifetime. Only a human born from mother's womb can become a Buddha in one lifetime. Why? Kam duk. They need kam duk. Six elements. They need the six elements. If your body doesn't have the six elements, you cannot become a Buddha in this life. And you cannot practice tantra. So now you're supposed to ask me, what are the six elements? I want to make sure I have them. Because I want to be a Buddha in this lifetime. So there are many explanations of the six elements. I'll give you some of them because I like this kind of stuff. I'll give you a famous quotation from Nagarjuna. SKYES BU SA MIN CHU MA YIN ME MA YIN NU MIN NAM GANG MIN NAM SHES MA YIN KU MI NA DE LAS GZHAN NAS SKYES BU GANG People are not the solidity of their body. So your body has some solidity. Okay. So there are six elements in all things. All physical objects have six elements. Okay. Then people think, oh those Buddhist scientists, they were like superstitious or something. But they were very advanced. So they say, this cup has six elements in it. Why? SA CHU ME RLUNG NAM GANG NAM SHES It has these six. First one, SA THU Earth. What is THU? What is Earth? In Buddhism, it doesn't mean if you dig here you find some dirt. [Speaker 2] It doesn't mean that. [Speaker 1] It means some parts of your body, like the bones, they are more concrete. So they have more of the earth element. Metal has more earth element than ice cream. And that's why it's harder. So when Buddhist people or Tao Te Ching, when they talk about the elements, they are not stupid. They don't think you scratch this and you'll find a little bit of dirt. Not like that. It means your body has some hardness to it. Does the blood have any earth element or not? Yeah. It has weight and you know, it's harder to push than air. Now tough question. Difficult question. Does air have any earth element? Yeah, or else the airplane cannot fly. The air is holding up the airplane. So there's some earth element in all physical things. Second element, water. It doesn't mean if you break this computer there's a little bit of water inside. But the parts of this computer, there is some water in the metal. If that metal stays for a hundred years, it will crack because the water went out. So all things have a little bit of water in there. And they are a little bit liquid. They are moving a little bit. SA CHU MED, fire. All things have some heat. Fire element. The computer is warmer than ice. And a small piece of ice is warmer than a big piece of ice. All things have a little bit of heat in them. SA CHU MED LUNG What's the next element? Air, or you can call wind. It means movement. The energy of motility. Motility, movement. So all things are moving a little bit. Inside here there are atoms and they have parts which are moving now. Even the metal of this computer. There's some air element in it. The atoms are circling around each other. So all physical things have the four elements. And they have, you can say four elements or six. If you say six, it's not like Dao system. The fifth one is called space. And you studied four kinds of space. I don't have to explain it if you don't remember, come to Taipei. In January. We are teaching the deepest emptiness teachings in Taipei in January. In English we say be there or be square. Be there or be square. Come or be stupid person. Either come or be stupid person. Up to you, be there or be square. There's no place for wind to move. There's no place for earth to be hard. And there's no place for water to be liquid if there's no space. So the fifth element is space. In this presentation of Nagarjuna, which is not tantric, but is necessary for tantra, the sixth element is mind. Consciousness. Okay. Why did Nagarjuna mention these six? You are not your head. You are not your arm. You are not your name. You are not the solidity of your body. You are not the wetness of your body. Wetness. You are not the motion of your body. You are not the warmth of your body. Then Nagarjuna says something radical. You are also not all of them together. So it's easy to talk to Nagarjuna up until that point. Are you your leg? Just my leg? Yeah. No, I'm not. Are you your arm? You mean just my arm? Yeah, I mean just your... No. Are you just your head? No. I have arms and head. Then he asks a hard question. Are you all of your parts together? Then a Buddhist has to say, no. Why? A thing is not all of its parts until somebody thinks of it as that thing. Your mind glues it together. So we need the sixth element. Mind. Alright. Okay. What time do I have to start? Okay. 4.30? Ooh, you're in trouble. Okay. I love to teach in the warm afternoon to people who have jet lag from China. Because I get revenge. How many times I have to teach in China I'm like this. Now you are like this. Is he going to take a break or not? No. No. This is the hardcore class. Tough guys. You want easy class? Go listen to the pen someplace. It's like one hour and you get 45 minute refreshment break in the middle. Now here's tantra, six elements. Generally I cannot teach you this, but he mentioned it so I can mention it. This is from Kalachakra. Wheel of Time. I'll just read it to you. DER KHAMS SGRUB KYI BDAG NYID CHEN SKYES BU'I CHEN PO GANG ZAG GI LUS LA CI'I PHYIR GANG SDOMS BU BO NA SOGS PA THAMS CAD DU RGYUR BZHIN NA You know, what does it mean to say we have six elements? GSUNGS PA BSDUL DANG BYANG CHUB SEMS SO BYOR BA'I SO Yeah, there are certain special elements. To reach, to practice tantra you need six special elements. DER LUS LA GANG SDOMS BU NA SOGS PA GANG YIN PA DE THAMS CAD NI SDUL DANG KHUR BA DANG KUN ZHIG RNAM PAR BSHAD PA'I DE BA'I SKYE MCHED KYI GNAS SKABS SBYOR BA NAS BYUNG BA'I PHYIR RO DER RTEN PA'I KHAMS SGRUB NI What are the six elements in tantra? GNAS PA RGYAS CHUR RTEN PA'I GZUGS GRUB YIN TE There are six of them. SA CHU ME LUNG KHUR BA CHAGS So they are different. First four are the same. SA CHU ME LUNG Earth, Water, Fire, Wind. But they don't mean that, right? Earth means solidity. Water means flowing, wet. Fire means temperature. LUNG means moving. Then, next one is called KUA. KUA means the semen of your father. Your father's semen. It's called KUA. And then CHAGS means the blood of the mother. The egg of the mother. So, we have the right equipment to practice tantra because we have these six elements. Not the other six. So now I'm on the tantric six. Yeah, you can say that way. You can say that, but bone is like earth, too, and like that. You can say that way. You can say that way. I'm quoting Bhutan Rinpoche. Why do we like Bhutan Rinpoche? He cataloged the kangyur and tengyur seven hundred years ago. That's what we are doing in Sedona. We are doing for modern Chinese, English, Spanish, German, and Russian. But Bhutan is the guy who put together all the books from India. How many? Four thousand six hundred. How many by Buddha? Nine hundred and ninety. How many by other people in India? Three thousand seven hundred and ten. Roughly, roughly. Okay. So anyway, he's a good, he's a pretty cool guy. I'm just using him. Okay, and that's in his commentary to Kalachakra. There's another six. Let me see. Maybe this is the one they were using. If you study Yamantaka. Oh, Yamantaka. Fat. Oh, Yamantaka. Fat. Where is Teddy? Oh, yeah. He's a rapper. I got the hum, and the hum. I don't want to do the hum. I'm good with the hum. But he's a Buddhist rapper. So, this Friday is a black moon. It's a holiday of Yamantaka. So, we're going to do some rap. Buddhist rap. And this book is also Yamantaka. In Yamantaka book, NGAL SKAD GANG SDUG BRTEN NI what are the six elements of a person born from womb? And this is probably similar to what you're reading in that book. PHA LA'I THOB PA'I RGYUD PA There are three elements you get from your father and three elements you get from your mother. From the father, your tendons, these things, which are tendons like a white color. Under the skin, they're white. And GANG. GANG means inside the bone, there's some like jelly, marrow, we call it marrow. Dogs like it. When you break the bone, they like to eat it. [Speaker 2] Medula. [Speaker 1] Medula. So that's the second one. The marrow inside the bone. That's supposed to come from your father. And KUA. KUA means semen. This is like, what do they call that stuff? Testosterone and progesterone, right? I got it right? Testosterone and progesterone. So, in Buddhism, women also have some semen. They have some testosterone, male hormone. They have a little bit. And men also have a little bit of female hormone. Buddha is balanced, both. Real Buddha is not male, not female. They are balanced. They have the compassion of mother, and they have the strength of their father. So they are a perfect mix. So everybody has testosterone, everybody has those three elements in their body. If you were born from a womb, because you get them in the womb. From your father, the tendons, the marrow, and the semen. From your mother, shah. Shah means this skin. This is supposed to come from your mother. And tart. Tart means blood, but here it means menstrual blood. Menstrual blood. Female hormone. And pakpa. Sorry. Pakpa is the covering of your, this covering skin, which covers the meat. So those three come from mom. The meat under the skin. Flesh, you can say flesh. Muscle? No, this part, the flesh, the meat. And then there's the covering, which is the skin. And the blood in general, but especially the blood of the menstruation. Or, you could say the four, this is also, what should we say? Yamantaka system. Or you can say sa chu me lung, earth, water, fire, and wind. Plus the two bindus. So every human body has two drops of consciousness. There are tiny drops of consciousness. They live inside your heart chakra. They are connected to the place where your karmic seeds are stored. One of them is red, one of them is white. When you die, they break open. When you die, they break open. Inside. So you can say the six elements. This is again another system. Earth, water, fire, wind, the red drop, and the white drop. Okay, what are those drops? It's connected to Hindu women put this thing here. After you are married, you put a red powder here, sindhura powder. It represents the red drop. And the rest of that is secret. Okay, are we supposed to take a pee-pee break? What time are we supposed to stop? Okay, we're going to take a ten minute break. Okay, pee-pee break, stretching break. Stretch your six elements. I just gave you all the six elements. We can talk about it for a few more hours. There is a five version. Especially with connection to the calendar. And in wood. Moo, moo. Okay, take a break. I thought we'd do questions for like 15-20 minutes, okay? A question doesn't have to be about this. It can be about anything. Okay? We're going to get our microphone. And I don't choose the person, he chooses the person. And it's his fault. Thank you. Geshe-la, in our life we have so many situations that we have to choose some higher choice from the other. We have always to ask ourselves what is better for a bigger game. Can you teach us something about this? Because I face it so many times. It's a good question. So, people in this room, you are not mainly people who have a problem. To choose between should I meditate or should I get drunk and kill somebody? So, your difficult choices are like, I have two weeks off now. Should I meditate? Should I go on retreat? Or should I serve the DCI tour? These are the choices that we have to make. There are two ways to make that decision. The best way is to have a good relationship with a good lama. And you ask them. What would be more beneficial for me to do right now? So that's why it's so nice to have a personal lama that you can ask these questions. To do that, you need to find them. What did we say in Mexico City about finding things? It's a bad idea. For example, don't look for a boyfriend. Just plant the boyfriend and relax. Don't go to India looking for some lama. If you go to India looking for a lama, all you will find is diarrhea. Plant the seed. Lama will come into your life. They have to come to you. So just plant the seed. What's the seed to plant to make a lama come into your life? Help other people to come to authentic teachings. Okay? Help them to find their teacher. And then your teacher will come. And that's the only way a teacher will come. If you find a teacher because you went to India, it's not because you went to India, it's because you helped someone else to find their teacher. If you find a teacher, a teacher because you went to India, it's not because you got that teacher because you went to India, it's because you helped someone else to have a teacher, to get close to a teacher. The second way, if you don't have a personal teacher or you don't have access to them right away, then you have to think what will make me Buddha faster? And to make that decision, you have to study Lam Rim. So if you study a lot of Lam Rim, then you will be able to choose between two good things. You know, should I do retreat or should I serve the DCI tour? Then if you studied a lot of, if you came to a lot of these retreats, you will be able to make that decision by yourself. How many Lam Rim retreats did we have so far? This is number twenty. So from my side, I offered you twenty retreats. From your side, you have to come. I did my part. I promised to teach you the whole Lam Rim and I'm keeping the promise. This is number twenty. But then it's up to you if you come or not. If you come to a lot of them, you can make those decisions yourself because you have enough information. And it may be different for different times of your life. There's times in your life when it's more important to do retreat. There's times in your life when it's more important to go to the DCI tour. And maybe six months later, it's opposite. So, to make those decisions, you need a lot of Lam Rim because you will prescribe the medicine for yourself. Because you know better than anybody what is your sickness. Okay, other question? Up to Hero. [Speaker 2] Thank you Hero. My question is if all of our result is from our past life, from Joe, and even though that control is from Joe, so what we are doing now here, what's the karma we do for our next life? At which moment, what kind of seed we do for our next life? [Speaker 1] Okay, good question. For the next life, right? So, in Buddhism, a karma, seed, it can open in three different ways. DONG YOD KYI LAS means you see the result in this life. And the second kind, it opens in the next, very next life, which is called SKYE NAS MYONG GIR GYI LAS. SKYE NAS MYONG GIR GYI LAS Then there's GZHAN LA MYONG GIR GYI LAS means it opens in the life, second life after this one and beyond. Up to a thousand, you know. Then I'll tell you a cool thing, since you asked me. We talked about servers and what was the other one? Consumers, okay. Servers and consumers. Since you asked the question, here's an answer. This is a definition of servers from Kalachakra. I'll tell you who wrote it. [Speaker 2] Oh, written by Pabongka. [Speaker 1] The same author. Here's his tantric definition of LAS KYIS ZA PA. Of a server. Secret definition of a server from Chakrasamvara. Tantra. LAS KYIS ZA PA SNGAR MTHOR DGE BA BYAS PA PHYI DOR MIN THUB PAS SNGAR GYI SDU BYA BSKYED PA BYAN A server is an extraordinary tantric student who is capable of planting a karmic seed, a good karmic seed in the morning and in the afternoon it opens. Okay. That's Pabongka Rinpoche's definition of a tantric server as opposed to a consumer. So if you have a lot of training and you have finished your eighteen ACI courses and your teacher, like John Brady, he just did initiation in Sedona. It's a lot of work and he had some students who were ready. He worked very hard. He spent many days and he gave them initiation. So that kind of person, they are not limited by what seeds Joe planted. They can take control of their immediate future. But generally, almost all of us, during a long life, the body will start to get older and the mind starts to forget things. That means you don't have the power to make the seed grow in this life. That's a sign you are living off of Joe's seeds. Because you couldn't plant enough fast, powerful seeds not to get older every year. If we are a tantric level server person, your eyes should get sharper every year. The hair should grow more and more. So, it's a sign that we don't understand how to plant seeds in a quick way when we are aging. Because if we know how to plant them quickly, there's no reason why you shouldn't get younger every year. If you're not getting younger every year, it's probably a sign that you are living off Joe's seeds and not your new seeds. So, if you practice hard and well, then things will start to happen in your 40s that you didn't have in your 20s. Most people's past life seeds, good ones, open when they are in their 20s. You are healthiest when you are about between 16 and 20. So, most people's good seeds open and they are most sharp, mentally most sharp. But if you plant good seeds in this life, and you understand the pen very well, and your motivation is to help the whole world, then those 20 year old seeds will start to open at 40, 50, 60. Then you start to look like the sister of your daughter. Okay? Alright, other question? Thank you for teaching. Thank you for coming to the teaching. [Speaker 2] Can you talk about the difference between virtuous samsaric karma and virtuous karma that gets us out of samsara? [Speaker 1] Yeah, good. So, this is a very big subject in Abhidharma Kosha. And they talk about sak che kyi le and sak me kyi le. Sak che kyi le means dirty good karma. And sak me kyi le means pure good karma. And we're going to talk about it when I teach you. Every retreat, because of Alejandro, I teach two deeper classes. So this week I will give you two deeper classes. And I chose part of Tsongkapa's deepest book on emptiness. And we're going to talk about this question. But in a short answer, some people do good things without understanding where things are coming from. Then they do good things because their mother told them to do it when they were kids. You know, you should help the poor because it's good. Your mother told you that. Or the priest in your church told you that if you are lucky enough to grow up Catholic or something like that. Are we having lecture by Padre as well? No. So they told you be nice to people. And your school teachers told you that. And the government told you if you're not, we will lock you up if you do bad things. So, some people do good things because someone told them to do that. And when they do, like they give food to poor people, but they don't understand the pen. So we call that dirty good karma. Why is it dirty? It will make a good result for you. Like you will get to go to biscuit restaurant in Mexico City. And you will get a very good enchilada mole with forty different ingredients. But when you take the last bite, that karma is finished. Then your debit card is go back to zero. That's the nature of dirty good karma. Because the person who made it didn't understand about the pen. Pure good karma. The person feeds the poor people. They plant a seed. Then they get to go to biscuit, I forgot, the abrigados restaurant or something. And they are eating the same enchilada mole. But they tell their friend, try this man, this is so good. Take a couple bites. Then they are reinvesting their karma by sharing it with other people. That's called clean good karma. Because you are reinvesting. Then it will just become upward cycle. You get to eat half of the mole yourself. And you make Stanley and Denise eat one. Even if they don't like it. But at least your intention is to share. Then because of that, you will have a thousand more mole. That reinvested karma always goes to Buddhahood. So that's called, in Abhidharma this is called pure good karma. In Sanskrit it's Vimala. Which is the name of our friend in Sedona. All right. We have a few minutes more. Let's do a little more of this book. Nobody asked me why if you have those six elements you can become Buddha in one lifetime. So I don't have to talk about it. Why? That's a long story. I was trying to find a nice short quotation for you. Let me see if I can find one. That's difficult. Basically the most important thing is the female energy and the male energy. So element number five and element number six. Then female has energy that the man doesn't have enough of. And the male has some energy that the female doesn't have enough of. So in the secret teachings you practice with another person. Could be imaginary. Could be a real person. But by practicing man and woman together. And somebody asked me, is it okay man and man and woman and woman? Is that okay? It's okay. It's okay. Because some women have more man energy. And some men have more woman energy. So is it possible for gay people to do tantra? It is possible. It's okay. So generally if you don't have those two elements, male energy and female energy, you cannot become Buddha. You have to reach a balance of the compassion which only a woman can have because only a woman can have children. So far. And then, I mean, only a woman knows this kind of love. Where they can risk their life to give another person life. And then the man has good qualities also. [Speaker 2] A few. [Speaker 1] And so in tantra, those two energies have to come together. And you can't do it unless you have those two elements. Male energy and female energy. That's a short answer. Okay, the rest you have to finish your 18 courses. I don't think we should teach tantra to people who didn't finish the 18 courses. Because you need this foundation. If you build a skyscraper in a swamp, it will fall down. So, if you teach tantra to people too early, without a strong foundation, I experienced in my own life, I mean, I met some people, I said, oh, this guy's special, he doesn't have to finish 18 courses. And most of those people failed. Not only failed, they had big problems. So it's better to wait until the person finishes the 18 courses. That's like, I'm sorry, you can't have the churro until you finish the astorga. Ah, I'm sorry, you can't have the churro until you finish the astorga. You can't have a yo chow until you finish that donut. It means both are very sweet. It's not punishment. You have to finish the 18 courses before you can have a tantra. You have to eat the ice cream before you have the cake. It's not a problem, okay? It's fun, it's more fun. Okay, let's continue in the text. We have about 10 minutes, so be strong. Fight the jet lag. Have lots of tea. Then you won't sleep well tonight and you'll have jet lag again tomorrow, okay? RANG CHAGS KYI SMOS RNAMS KYI YOD DU BYED PAS DE BA CHEN GYI BYANG CHUB SRED PA RNAMS KYI LING DE'I BSKYED PAS SMOS RNAMS DER That's it. RANG CHAGS KYI means us guys. SMOS RNAMS KYI YOD DU BYED PAS We are doing prayer, may I be born in the paradise of Amitabha. But there are bodhisattvas living in that paradise who got born there before. They are not Buddhas yet. They are born in Amitabha's paradise because of the prayer they did before. So they were human. In this world, then they made a lot of prayers. I want to be born in the paradise of Amitabha. Then I can, I will become a bodhisattva in that Buddha paradise. And then the Buddhas will teach me. So they prayed like that, bodhisattvas. Then they get born into Amitabha's paradise. And they go to the first class and Amitabha tells them, the best place to be born to get enlightened is in the human's place. Then they are like, oh, I made a mistake. It's easier to get enlightened from human realm than Amitabha's paradise. So RANG BYAG GI MNGON LONG GI YOD DU BYED PA'I The people who are living in the place like Amitabha's paradise, we are always praying to be born there. BYANG CHUB BSTAN PA RNAMS KYIS LING DER KHYER BA'I MNGON LONG BDEB Up there, they are praying that they can be born here. This is the best place. This equipment is very good. And we have trouble. And we have problems. And people who have problems become stronger. We had rich kids in my school, Princeton. They don't have any problems. My roommate was a rich kid. He said, you want to come to New York and see my mom and dad? I said, yeah, yeah, I'd like to come. I said, what are you doing this weekend? We're buying our new car for the year. They buy a new Lincoln car every year. So, 2016 coming up in, what, three weeks or something. Then he's like, we have to get rid of the old car. We need the new car. Then I was like, wow. My family never bought a new car. We're lucky the car is working. Then that rich kid, he also, in Princeton, when I was at Princeton University, there's an old rule, a hundred years old rule. During four years at Princeton, every student must prove they can swim. Then he has a lot of money. He doesn't want to learn to swim. So he sued Princeton, and he won. He doesn't have to learn to swim. And he went to Harvard Law School. He graduated at the top. He became a famous diplomat. He had two beautiful kids, and one day he's walking next to the river, and he just slipped, and he died. Like that. So, people are like that. Those Abhidharbha's paradise, it's too nice. Then you get lazy. This is problem with America country right now. They are eating themselves to death because everything is so easy. That happens just before you lose your country. Anyway, okay. RANG BYAG DANG, AA BU'O RANG GI MA CHUNG BA KHO NA MON DO If you didn't become a Buddha yet, with this great equipment that Joe gave you, it's your fault. Joe gave you a good mind, good body. You came into this life with everything you need to become a Buddha in this life. If you fail, it's your fault. It's your problem, your responsibility. BSTAN DI LAS LHAG PA ZHIG NYE DU MED You cannot get a better chance than this life and this year, now, here, where you live. It's not just there's no place in the world that's better than here. There's no place in the universe better than here. If you want to become a Buddha, you made it to the Super Bowl. Then don't say, I don't want to play football. You are in the World Cup. You are in the finals of the World Cup. Joe got you to the finals of the World Cup. And then you have to play. It's up to you. Don't think there's this time, oh, if I go to India, find a big lama, I'll be happy. I've had a hundred students went to India, tried to find a lama who rings the bell better. Spent one year there or three years there. Even in my monastery, Sera, people come back and they say, I should have stayed in the Lam Rim class. I was learning more in the Lam Rim class. And it's true. This is the best place to become a Buddha. In this body, in your society, with the training you have, you can't get better than that. If you don't become a Buddha now, there's no other place you're going to do it. Okay? Even the people in Amitabha's heaven are praying to come here next time. There's also no enchiladas in Amitabha's heaven. Okay.
