[Speaker 1]
Say, RIG PA THA YED PA Human Dictionary for zero dollars. RIG PA THA YED PA Infinite reasons. Good.

Infinite proofs of emptiness. Then recently a student came to me. I'm going to quit.

I'm going to quit this group. Then I said, why? He said, it's too complicated.

You know, we should just have heart. Just do everything from the heart. It's very simple.

You don't need these homeworks and courses. Just do it from, just speak from the heart. Open your heart.

Then all of this talk, blah, blah, blah, talk, talk, talk, talk, schools and many schools and all this. It's too much. Just open your heart.

And they did quit. They quit. They didn't come back.

[Speaker 2]
Yeah.

[Speaker 1]
Okay. Buddha said, RIG PA THA YED PA Human Dictionary, DBANG NON DBANG PO NON PO DBANG PO NON PO DBANG NON Come on, there's a word you don't know? Everybody just check it out.

I found a word he don't know. I better check and then go turn up. No, that's a $50 answer.

Okay, DBANG NON means, DBANG NON means those student who are special. Those student who have a high spiritual IQ. Okay, I'm not, yeah, I'm not talking normal IQ.

I'm talking spiritual IQ. I'm talking spiritual IQ. I'm sorry.

No, estoy hablando de una inteligencia normal. Estoy hablando de una inteligencia espiritual. I'm not talking, can you do the college test, you get all the mathematics correct.

I'm not talking about that. I'm talking when someone attack you, you love them more. That's a high spiritual IQ.

Buddha said, those rare high spiritual IQ people who will love someone more if they attack them, those people are hungry for more information about emptiness. They're, they say, give me more Geshe-la. Isn't there a lower lower school?

I don't got any money. Now I downed my purse. Okay, wait, where was I going to ask you?

Oh, yeah, okay. Oh my god. I'm back in business.

This could, I could make a profit out of this class. Okay, just for a hundred dollars. Jenny, I give you back if I don't spend it all, okay?

For a hundred dollars. Why? And I want a precise answer.

I don't want a wondering answer. Why do the high spiritual IQ people, why are they hungry for more information about emptiness? Why do they want to know the higher school, and the second school, and the third school, and the fourth?

Why do they want to know all these schools? Pachi, oh Tim. You know what's going to happen in a Buddhist group?

The hundred dollars is going to cycle around. It won't stop. I want a precise answer.

Because they worry, they care, and they love everybody. And?

[Speaker 2]
And they want to help everybody.

[Speaker 1]
They want to learn and have all the possible strategies to help everybody. Perfect answer. Wait, that answer is so perfect, I'm going to give you a Dharma tip, Dharma tip.

If you go to a restaurant like Ayrton and Inez's excellent restaurant, and if the waiter gives you a specially good service, you give them a tip, right? So, that answer was so excellent service. I gave $100 extra tip.

Okay, cool? Perfect answer. The bodhisattva wants a bigger tool kit.

Okay? When the plumber comes to your house, okay, my plumber, he's the best. Okay?

Because he's an old hippie, I don't know why I like him. He has this straggly long hair and the air conditioning. So, I don't know why I feel connection with him.

And he's been doing plumbing for 50 years. His father was a plumber. So, and when you talk to him, he's one of the few people I really talk to who doesn't know who I am.

So, we can sit on the porch and talk about plumbing, you know? He only wants to talk about one thing. His truck.

Why? He's collecting tools for 50 years. His truck looked like, I don't know, a whole grocery store in one truck.

Thousands of small boxes with strange tools. And whatever breaks in my house, he can fix it without going to the store. Because he has every strange part in his truck.

And I'm not kidding. Like 10 years ago, they put a special filter in my house for the kitchen water. And if it starts leaking or something, I just call him, he opens the door, he's like, oh yeah, I got that.

You know? And he has in his truck thousands of filters, you know? And it's really nice to know him.

Also, something cool about him. Okay, this is really rare. He will fix something, and he will teach me how to fix it next time myself.

And he gives me all the plumbing secrets for free. So, her answer is about my plumber. The real bodhisattva.

They want to know 100 or 1000 proofs of emptiness. Because maybe some student don't understand the pen, but they understand the two husbands. Maybe some people don't understand the two husbands, but they understand the magician with the cocaine.

Okay, so just by being here the last few days, you have a pretty good truck already. Okay? So, in this school Tsongkapa, Tsongkapa school, we collect new proofs of emptiness.

Like a good plumber. So, I'm sorry to tell you, you're going to get five proofs of emptiness in one ... in half an hour.

Five more tools. Okay, here we go. I suspect we will only be able to talk about one of them in detail.

Because of old man stories. Okay, here we go. And this is your homework number eight.

Okay, ten, you're going to have to do nine and ten on your own, okay? Here we go. I'm just going to give you the names of the five proofs.

Then we'll go into detail on one of them, because it will easily take half an hour. First one is called chik tu dral. Say, chik tu tral, chik tu dral.

Things are empty because they are not ... let me say it again, empty. Everything in the universe is empty because everything in the universe is either one thing, or more than one thing.

I'll say it again. Everything in the universe is empty because everything in the universe is either one thing, or more than one thing. Okay, like for example, your nose is one thing, okay?

And your ears are two things. Okay? Your nose is one thing.

Your ears are more than one thing.

[Speaker 2]
Okay?

[Speaker 1]
So, it doesn't matter if you check all the things in the universe, either they are one thing, you can even do it this way, okay? When you teach your students. Everything in the universe is either one thing, or two things.

Okay, got it? Everything is either one thing, or more than one thing. Okay, there's two here, right?

Blow your nose before you teach it. Okay, that's the first one of the five that I'm going to talk about. I'm not going to give that much ...

you're going to be disappointed Peter. Okay, here we go. Second kind.

Second proof of emptiness. And by the way, the lower Middle Way school is a rich source of different proofs of emptiness, okay? So, the second kind of emptiness, is called the sliver of diamond.

Like you break a diamond into many pieces and there's a small sliver, that's called the sliver. Okay, so the second proof in this class, which we cannot finish today, is called sliver of diamond. In Tibetan, Dorje Sekma.

Dorje Sekma. Dorje Sekma. Dorje means?

Dorje significa?

[Speaker 2]
Diamond.

[Speaker 1]
Okay, do means a stone, je means king, dorje means king of stones. Do significa joya, je significa rey o señor, so dorje por lo tanto es el rey de las gemas. Yeah, okay, king of stones.

El rey de las gemas, de las piedras. Sekma means when you break something and then each small piece, like if you break a glass, Sekma significa cuando rompes algo, cada pedacito, como si rompes un vidrio. You tell your friend, be careful walking here, there's maybe slivers.

Small piece, small sharp pieces. So, the second proof of emptiness, that we're going to talk about, is the sliver of diamond. Okay, third one.

Say yu me, gen go. Yu me, gen go. A young girl came to me in the break.

Some smart mom or dad, I don't know. Was teaching her to grow things from a seed and explaining to her about mental seeds. You say Georgina or something?

No, what's the child's name? Nope, something else.

[Speaker 2]
Ini?

[Speaker 1]
Nope. Anyway, maybe it was, but she she came to me, she's very proud. It was a, what do you call it, pot?

And there's a sprout coming out, and she's like, oh, I grew this Geshe-la. Then, you know, this is another teaching skill. Accept every gift graciously.

Okay, like, actually in your mind, you're like, how the hell I'm going to put this in my suitcase, you know? I'm going to have dirt all over the suitcase, you know? So, I'm like, oh, thank you so much.

Then she said, actually Geshe-la, it's not a gift, I just wanted to show you. And then suddenly, I want to keep it, I don't know what happened. She's like, I'm like, you don't want to give it to me?

She's like, no. Why are we talking about that? Before the sprout came out, was there anything in the pot or not?

Like, you can say, oh Geshe-la, there was a seed, and then she put water and the seed broke open, and the sprout came out. In the Catholic Church, they say, but was it ex nihilo? Was it ex nihilo?

Did it come from nothing? Ex nihilo. From nothing.

And you can have this conversation about creation, you know? Did ... was there a big bang?

Did everything come from nothing? Was there nothing in the pot or was there something in the pot that grew into a sprout? Did the sprout grow from something or did the sprout grow from nothing?

Watch. I'm reading your mind. You're thinking, Geshe-la, it came from the seed already.

Okay? It came from something which is there. If you have a pot with no seed in it, nothing's going to come up.

So, obviously, if you give me a choice, okay, which one is correct? Did the little girl's sprout come from a seed? Or did it come ex nihilo, from nothing?

Then I know what you're thinking. You're thinking, Geshe-la, come on, it came from the seed. And then, if I'm the Buddha, I will say both choices are wrong.

The sprout didn't come from nothing, and the sprout didn't come from something. Okay, that's the third, fourth, fourth proof, right? Sorry, third proof.

[Speaker 2]
Third proof, yeah.

[Speaker 1]
Okay, and I'm not going to explain it in detail, but that's the idea. Do things come from something else? Like, when my teacher said my mind was like the long spaghetti noodles?

Or was there nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing, big bang? Which one is correct? Buddha said, neither one.

Nagarjuna said, neither one. He's so frustrating. I'm glad I don't work for him, and I'm glad I'm not married to him.

Okay, mu shi kyen go, say mu shi. Mu shi. Kyen go.

Kyen go. Fourth proof of emptiness that we are going to study in class number eight. Class eight, sorry.

Fourth proof of emptiness. Okay, ready? Ready?

When that little girl's sprout came up, there are another four choices we can talk about. There's a group of four choices we can talk about. Number one, that sprout came up from itself.

The sprout came from the sprout. Which is actually impossible, okay? But we have to, we have to check every possibility.

Okay? Does a sprout grow from itself? Choice number one.

Or, choice number two. Does this sprout grow from something else? Like a seed?

Okay, second choice. Don't choose it yet, listen to the last two. Or, or, does the sprout come from something which is a combination of itself and something else?

Third choice. Fourth choice. Or, does the sprout come from nothing?

Okay? I'll say it again. Four choices.

Then, when you teach it, you can go like this. For zero dollars. Then everybody's like, what?

What? For zero dollars. I'll give you four choices.

Where did the sprout come from? Number one. Came from itself.

The sprout was there a year ago, and then it came up today. Okay, and by the way, there are Hindu schools that believe that. Okay, Sankhya, the yoga, the main yoga school.

Okay, second choice. The sprout came from something else, like a seed. Third choice.

Oh, the sprout came from a seed and something else. I'm sorry, something else and itself. Fourth choice.

It came from nothing. Okay, which one do you choose? You know, Buddha said, in English we have an idiom, none of the above, none of those choices.

Okay, that's ... Okay, that's the fourth proof. Okay, last one, and then we'll ...

they will stop, and it means we didn't finish because we have to discuss them, and that means we have unfinished work together, and that means we have to have another retreat. Okay? Okay.

Good, let's give a hand for the translator. Translator. I'm sorry, I didn't know, the schedule said stop at 12.

Oh, okay. Just special cases. If you are flying, you're leaving the bus, or it's leaving 12.30. It's not leaving at 12. That's lucky. So, I can give you the fifth one. I mean, I'm still stopping at 12, but I can stop at 12.

Okay. It's called the proof of emptiness which is named dependent origination. Okay.

Sometimes that last one is called RIGS PA'I RGYAL PO Human dictionary ... oh Nick, your turn. RIGS PA'I RGYAL PO King of all logic for emptiness.

The best reason for emptiness, number one reason for emptiness, is number five. It's called the king of emptiness proofs. Yeah.

Okay. So, I have ... I have seven minutes left.

You want to go deeper? Alright, I like it. You're a good audience.

Let's see if it's in my calculator. Okay, yeah. So, that last reason, which is the king of all reasons, oh, this is empty because it's dependent origination.

There are three different interpretations, and it's good to have on your Bodhisattva plumbing truck when you become a teacher yourself. Somebody's like having fight ... divorce with their husband?

Almost divorce with their husband. Then you can say, oh wait, don't do it yet, I got this stuff in my truck. I can fix that.

Divorce him next week. First try my three tools, these three tools. See if it works, okay?

Alright? By the way, when you're ACI teacher, it's one of the most common questions you will ever get. You know, I used to love my boyfriend.

Now, I was thinking yesterday to split up with him, you know. Then one of the best things you can say is that, look, you just go to Aldo's class, you know. It's two weeks from now.

Ask him about the three kinds of dependent origination emptiness proof. I think it might help you, you won't get divorced. Alright?

Then they will wait for two weeks. Then it doesn't matter whether you explain it correctly or not. If they wait two weeks, the anger is finished already.

If they wait two weeks, then just eat pancakes for two weeks. They still won't get divorced. Will not get divorced.

So, if something delay, delay is often fix the problem, okay? They remember they are in love. So, here we go.

What else? Let me, let me think about this. Yeah, okay.

Here's the lower dependent origination advice to the lady who has a fight with her husband in the kitchen. Okay? Lower dependent origination advice.

I don't know what to do with my husband. Chocolat. Yeah, what's the problem?

I don't know, he's acting crazy. Yeah, he's yelling at me in the kitchen all the time. Oh, look, you can use emptiness.

Okay. Then, what's emptiness? Emptiness means, actually there's some real cause for why he's upset.

There's no husband in the kitchen who get upset for no reason at all. Low, low dependent origination. Look, maybe he was hungry.

Maybe he was tired. Maybe he had a fight at work. Everything has a reason.

The husband who get upset for no reason at all is emptiness. There's no such husband. Okay?

That's the low, low explanation. It's still dependent origination. Let's go a little bit higher.

Okay, go ahead. My husband is always yelling at me. Oh, you're having trouble with your husband.

[Speaker 2]
Yes.

[Speaker 1]
But, actually you don't need to be upset. There's many parts to him. You are just focusing on the negative part.

He has a loving part. He's good with the kids. You know, he gives pretty good hug after he had his dinner.

There are good parts. He's not just one part. He's many different parts to your husband.

So, okay, one part is a problem. He gets angry. But, look how many good parts.

He's good with the children. He works pretty hard. He has a good salary.

And late at night, you know? Okay, so there's good parts to him. That's the second level of dependent origination.

Things depend on their parts. First level, things depend on their causes. He's just hungry.

He's tired. He had trouble at work. Lowest dependent origination.

Little bit higher. Come on, he has some good side also. Nobody is only one thing.

He has these good qualities also. He's good with the kids. He supports the family.

Okay, so he has a hard temper. But, there's also other parts. Okay, that's medium dependent origination.

Okay, now we'll finish the highest dependent origination. And then we finished for the retreat. And it's very good luck to finish with the highest one.

It's very good luck. And I still owe you some explanation of the other ones, okay? But this one is the king.

Okay, here we go. You know, my husband ... With him and Ayrton we have everything we need.

Oh, you're having trouble with your husband? Yes. Let me ask you a question.

So, he's been yelling at you, right? Yeah. Let me just ask you a question.

Do you ever yell at your kids? Just like ... Maybe, when you yell at your kids, it puts a seed in your mind, and then next week, when you come to the kitchen, the seed opens, and maybe everyone in the world gets exactly what they deserve.

Maybe there's a 100% justice in the universe. Maybe those who are yellers get yelled at. Okay?

That's the highest thing.
