A nice group came from China about an hour ago, and some from North America about half an hour ago. Thank you for coming. So tonight we have a subject called undercover angel.

So I have to explain what is the meaning. I think ten years after 9-11, we were having a special prayer in my home city, Phoenix, Arizona, and we invited a group of Muslim friends from Canada, and we did a special prayer together. And the Muslim imam, the priest is called imam, he guided us in a special prayer.

Then while he was doing the prayer, I noticed he's saying some prayer, and then he goes like this. Then he says a prayer, then he goes like this. So I asked him, after the sermon, I said, when you are doing the prayer, and you are going like this, what are you doing?

At that time, what are you doing?

You know?

He said Muslim people believe every person has an angel that follows them their whole life. And when you pray to Mecca, I think six times a day, you have to talk to your angel. Just say hi.

How do you feel today? Then I said, can you see this angel? Then he said, sometimes lucky people can see.

But some people that cannot see, just they do their whole life, they will talk to their angel. Then sometimes, I think you had this experience, same as me, we have some special, I don't know, special karma. Then sometimes we think we can see an angel.

In my life, I can remember one time, in New York City. So I was living in New York, and I was teaching in New York. By the way, the people who are talking are translating into Chinese and other languages, so please don't mind.

Just think we are on Noah's Ark. And I went to ... it was a special Buddhist holiday.

This holiday is called Sechu. Sechu means tenth day of the moon. And this is a holiday of a special Buddhist angel.

That angel name is Angel of Diamond, Diamond Angel.

In India they say Vajrayogini, Vajrayogini.

[Speaker 1]
So I went to a restaurant to celebrate with some of my friends. We are eating a nice dinner, and the waitress is a kind of older Jewish lady. She's kind of big, you know?

She looks like she bakes a lot of bread and she eats some of it sometimes. And she talks like New York. Yeah, talk like New York.

You talk like New York. Good translation. And then, you know, we had a nice dinner, and then we finished the dinner.

Then I said, can you give us a bill, please? And she goes like this, you know? And she said, who will charge people who are celebrating Sechu Vajrayogini?

Who will ask them for money?

Then she just walked in the kitchen, you know? And we went to find her. We couldn't find her.

And after that, many times I went to this restaurant. It's on 6th Street. It's called Caravan of Dreams.

I went many times to find her, to ask her why she said that, and I couldn't find her. Then I thought, oh, she must be angel or something, you know? So I left her $80 tip.

Then, sometimes angel is invisible. We cannot see. We feel some angel is watching and helping us, but we don't know where are they, you know?

And then a few times in my life or in your life, I think you can meet somebody, you think maybe they are a secret angel. Like undercover angel, you know? Then, I don't know about you, but I enjoy to meet angel.

I would like to meet more of them. I would like to meet them every day. I would like to live with an angel, you know?

I would like to live together with an angel. I think it would be very nice, you know? So, you know, I asked my teacher, what is karma to meet this angel, you know?

Sometimes you can meet them just for one hour or two hours, but what if you want to stay with them all the time? What is the karma to do that? So tonight I'd like to talk about this, how to make this karma.

And I think if you teach something, you should do it yourself.

So I tried this system for many years, and I had a good result.

So I want to share with you. So, we are going to go through, I think everybody have a piece of paper? I hope so.

Yes. Okay. So, step number one.

What is an angel? Why do you want an angel? For myself, I want someone to help me.

I think an angel is like a guide in my life, guiding me.

It's leading me through my life.

[Speaker 1]
I think also angel feels like comes from another world. So, in this world we have many problems. In this world we have a lot of pain during our life.

We have many good things, but we also have many big problems. And then after we die, again we have ... we don't know where we are going to go.

[Speaker 2]
So, to me, an angel is someone who guides you through your life. Show you how to be happy. Show you how to deal with the problems.

And the biggest problem is death.

[Speaker 1]
And they help us to go past the death to other places. So, ever since I was young, I think when I was sixteen, I think I want to meet an angel. I need an angel.

Like a manager. I need a manager to help manage my life. Since that time, since I was sixteen or seventeen, I start to look for my angel.

So, in Tibet, in the monastery, so I spent twenty-five years in Tibetan monastery, and they have some system how to find your angel. So, tonight I thought we can talk about this system. We are doing a retreat this weekend, start tomorrow.

We will have a ten day retreat. We will talk about this in much detail. You are welcome to come.

I think the rooms are all full, but if you bring a tent or something, you can come. Many people are coming in the tent. And it's fun.

So the ten days will be fun. But we will also talk about how to find an angel. So, in Tibet, we say an angel should have three qualities.

This is like a Buddha's qualities, step number two. We say Buddha has three qualities. In Tibet, we call khen, tse, and nu.

Say khen, tse, nu. Khen tse nu. Then they call Buddha khen tse nu den.

Not nu den, nu den. Khen tse nu den. It means they have khen, and they have tse, and they have nu.

And the angel should have that. And I don't care if you are Buddhist or Catholic or Jewish. I don't care.

If you go to Mexico City, you drive down that big avenue, the big avenue, you can see angels on the pillar.

Beautiful angels.

If you go to China or Tibet, you can see a little bit different, but same thing. So, if an angel comes to me, I'm not going to ask them, are you Catholic or Jewish? If the angel comes to me, I don't care what they are.

I think they are everything. You go to Mexico City, you can see, it's so wonderful in your capital city of Mexico to put angels on the whole avenue. This is so smart.

And other countries are also doing.

What is the name of the capital of Tibet? Lhasa. Lhasa means angel city.

Los Angeles. Okay? So it means that angels are important for everybody.

Then they should have three qualities. First one, khen, means they understand everything. Then they know everything about you.

We say they knew everything about you a thousand years ago. They can see the future. They know what you are having for breakfast tomorrow, even if you don't know.

Then angels should be like that. They know your whole life before you were born. They know your problems.

They know what happiness you will have in this life. They know what's going to happen to you next year, or ten years, or the day that you die. They should be like that.

Then that's not enough. If I'm a doctor, and I know everything about your problem, if I don't care about you, that's a problem.

So we say angel's second quality, tse.

[Speaker 1]
Tse means love. They should love us.

[Speaker 2]
Tse means love. I know your husband is going to give you a problem in five years, on March 20th, 2019.

[Speaker 1]
Then, good luck. It's not good enough. They have to have love.

Oh, I want you to do this, do this, do this, then you won't have a problem in five years. Angels should care about you. It doesn't matter if the guy is a famous doctor if he doesn't love you, if he doesn't care about you.

That's a second quality. I want angels like that. They know my problems, and they care about me.

But the third one is called nupa. Nupa means, it doesn't help if you have a doctor who understands your problem or loves you, but they don't have skill. They don't understand how to treat you.

So the third quality of the angel, nu means power. They should have power.

They have power to help you. So angels should have these three qualities.

[Speaker 1]
They know everything about you.

[Speaker 2]
They know what you are thinking. They know what will happen to you in the future.

[Speaker 1]
And they love you. And they have power to help you. This is the angel.

I want an angel like that. That's a good angel. That's the second part.

[Speaker 2]
Now we'll go on to the third part.

[Speaker 1]
This is three angels and one normal human. In this picture there are three angels and one human. Three of them are buddha already.

Already buddha. One is not. Which one is which?

Okay. So we say, of course, if you are a catholic, you can say God wants to help you. And if you are a buddhist, of course Buddha wants to help you.

Then both Tibetan and catholic, we believe that God has the power to send an angel to you. When God sends an angel to you, or a buddha, doesn't matter, they're not going to send a person that you see only one time in the grocery store. They are going to send someone who lives close to you.

If I'm a god or buddha, if I want to help you, if I want to send an angel to you, of course it's going to be someone close to you.

So when you are looking for an angel, when you are trying to identify an angel, you have to check for suspicious people.

[Speaker 1]
Most suspicious is your family. Okay?

[Speaker 2]
Your mother, your father, your brother or your sister. Okay? Your children.

[Speaker 1]
Okay? One of them will be an angel, okay? And they are helping you, secretly.

So when we are looking for angels tonight, we are trying to learn how to look for angels. How to catch them. Oh, you're an angel.

[Speaker 2]
Ah, I saw you. I saw what you did.

[Speaker 1]
Then they say, no, no. By the way, angel always say, no, no, me? No, no, no.

No, no, no.

[Speaker 2]
Okay?

[Speaker 1]
I'm just your brother.

[Speaker 2]
I'm just your son.

[Speaker 1]
I'm not angel. They always say that, okay? The people who are not angel also say the same thing, so it's a problem.

Okay, but we talk about it, how to catch them. But I can tell you one thing.

Buddhas love you.

[Speaker 1]
Jesus loves you. God loves you. Then of course, they will send an angel to help you.

And it will be somebody close to you. Somebody you work with every day. Some member of your family.

[Speaker 2]
So when you are trying to catch angel, check those suspicious people who are close to you.

[Speaker 1]
Sometimes if you do this well, number four, you will feel like the lady in the middle. If you become a good angel hunter, one by one you will catch them.

[Speaker 2]
You're angel.

[Speaker 1]
I know, I know, I know.

[Speaker 2]
You also. You also.

[Speaker 1]
They always come in three or four. Oh yeah, oh five. No, five or six.

Oh, everybody in the front row is angel. Oh no. Some angel fly from Arizona, some from China.

You know how there are some mentally sick people? They say, everybody trying to hurt me, everybody trying to hurt me. You know, they are ...

What do you call that?

[Speaker 1]
They are paranoid. Everybody trying to hurt me. Then angel hunter has the opposite.

[Speaker 2]
Everybody's angel.

[Speaker 1]
Everybody. Oh, everyone ... Angel following me today.

Try to help me.

[Speaker 1]
Then someday if you are a good angel hunter, you will feel like that. I'm the last person in the world who is not angel yet. 6,999,999,999 angels in this world.

I'm the last one. Everybody's trying to teach me since I was a baby. Okay?

When you feel this feeling, then you know you are a good angel hunter. So don't feel bad. Maybe they will let you give a talk.

Who is this?

This is your high school boyfriend.

[Speaker 2]
Okay.

If you are a guy, if you are a girl, if you are a guy, you have a high school girlfriend.

Then usually, the best age to hunt the angels is in high school.

[Speaker 1]
High school people have an open mind. And they are very interested in boyfriend and girlfriend. Then of course Buddha or God will send the angel to become your boyfriend or your girlfriend.

So your partner, super suspicious person, very possible they are angel.

[Speaker 2]
Okay?

Alright? So, I wanted to do a little meditation with you tonight also. We will be doing this week also.

Okay? But let's do a little bit tonight. By the way, I have allergies, so please excuse.

If I sound like I'm swimming, it's okay. Okay, so let's do just a few minute meditation. Sit up straight.

Do you know what Buddha said is the first most important preparation for meditation? Is it sitting up or is it holding your hand? Which one?

Huh? No, Buddha said, turn off your cell phone.

Buddha said, turn off your cell phone.

[Speaker 1]
Okay, turn off your cell phone. Okay. Alright, put your hands on your legs.

Please close your eyes. Relax your mouth. Relax like a small smile.

Small smile. Forehead is relaxed. Eyes are relaxed.

Pull in your stomach a little bit, and start to watch your breath. Don't worry about other things. Just watch your breath coming in and out.

We will do ten breaths, quiet. Now I'd like you to please think about your boyfriend or girlfriend, first boyfriend or first girlfriend. When you first met them, and you felt something magical with them, then I have a question for you.

Did you ever see anything, did you ever see them do something which is suspicious? Maybe they are angels. You thought, maybe this is an angel.

So let's meditate for a few minutes. Did you see them, did they do anything which was almost like an angel?

We need a while, a few minutes, trying to locate something that you remember, an action that they have done, that makes you think they could be angels.

[Speaker 1]
Good. Please come back to your breath. Start to count your breath again.

Then you can slowly open your eyes. So these are suspicious people.

[Speaker 2]
When you are young, when you choose the first person who is going to be very close to you, like boyfriend or girlfriend, these are very, very suspicious.

[Speaker 1]
Very possible that Buddha or God sent an angel to you.

[Speaker 2]
Okay?

[Speaker 1]
So I want to go to step number six. This is learning to spot angel.

[Speaker 2]
So, who is this?

[Speaker 1]
This is the angel from New York. Okay? She looks like a normal person.

She looks like just some old waitress in the restaurant, right? Then, how do we know someone is an angel or not?

[Speaker 2]
What are the signs that we should look for?

[Speaker 1]
So, I want to teach you some of the signs. First one.

[Speaker 2]
First sign.

[Speaker 1]
They are very, very unusually good person. They give love to everybody. They love to help sick people.

They love to help old people. They love children. They show love to everybody.

Even the people who hurt them. They are showing love to those people.

[Speaker 2]
You never see them get angry, or jealous.

[Speaker 1]
They don't have addictions like I have addiction to chocolate, or churro, churro. Okay, they don't have these things. They live like angels.

They look like angels walking on this earth. They are beautiful on the outside, and they are beautiful on the inside. This is one sign of an angel.

So, you can look for angel like that. That's one suspicious activity of an angel. They also, there's a second kind of sign.

What is that? Oh, the first one, they are giving you a good example for your whole life. And we, when we are young, we can't always appreciate this example.

They are not addicted to food, or they are not addicted to cell phone.

They are kind to old people and sick people.

[Speaker 1]
When you are young, you can't appreciate them. But later in your life, you think, this person is a really good example. I want to be like them.

Then they became angel for you. That's, in my life, that's the first sign of an angel, in my life. What's the second sign of an angel?

Second type of angel. Everything they say, everything they do, is irritating and upsetting to me. They bug me all the time.

I meditate in the morning. I did my yoga. I ate healthy salad at Susana's house.

I'm having perfect angel day.

[Speaker 1]
Then I meet this person.

[Speaker 2]
Immediately I feel angry.

[Speaker 1]
They say something stupid to me.

[Speaker 2]
In English we say, they know how to push my button. In one minute, they can ruin my day.

[Speaker 1]
And I feel, oh, I hate you, Mike.

[Speaker 2]
You upset me so much.

[Speaker 1]
Then, this is the angel's second job. The first kind of angel show your weaknesses. You must become more kind.

You must become more patient. But the second kind of angel, practical teacher, they make you upset. They make you angry.

They get you jealous. They are always giving you chocolate.

[Speaker 2]
They always buy you bag of churros.

[Speaker 1]
They want to see will you eat it or not. Okay, like that.

[Speaker 2]
That's the second kind of angel.

[Speaker 1]
In my life, personally, these are the two signs of an angel.

[Speaker 2]
First kind, too perfect.

[Speaker 1]
They are too perfect.

[Speaker 2]
Perfect person.

[Speaker 1]
Second kind, completely irritating person. This is a real angel also. They can read your mind.

They know what is your weakness.

[Speaker 2]
They know you have to change.

[Speaker 1]
So they will push you. They will push you. So, this is just my suggestion.

How to spot angel? You watch for those two kinds. The special kind of person, try to be like them.

The second kind of angel, be happy when you meet them. Oh, I love you. You are the most irritating person in my life.

There's a lady from Singapore, Jenny. Are you here yet?

Then Orit was killing us in the yoga class. Everybody's like, oh, ooh. Then Jenny started to cry out, I love you Orit!

I love you Orit! I love you! Then I'm like, what is she saying?

It means you have to love those people who irritate you the most. Okay?

Because they are pushing you to become a good person.

[Speaker 1]
That's also, this is also a sign of a real angel. I'm not kidding, okay? I'm telling the truth.

Truth. Verdad. If God wants to help you, if Buddha wants to help you, definitely one person in your family will be very irritating.

They want you to improve. They want you to see how much you have to improve. This is the second sign of an angel.

So, be happy about all the irritating people you meet. If you have more irritating people in your life, God has blessed you more.

They don't send irritating people to the people who cannot handle it. They send more irritating people to the stronger people. So if you got more irritating people, it means you are stronger.

Most of them are traveling all over the world, and they are helping, just they came back from China recently, for example, and they are helping people all over the world with many different things. They have been studying karma seeds.

Some of them for 25 years, 15 years, 10 years, okay?

I won't tell you which one, because you will think they are old.

But now they understand many kinds of karma. In China, one lady came to them, my doctor said I'm too old to have a baby. That was three years ago.

They gave advice to this lady, what kind of karma to plant. This, two months ago, when we went to China, that lady came to the talk, carrying two year old baby. And everybody was so happy.

So, we are going to take a break.

There are some refreshments.

That's a baby. But if you have any problem in your life, I can't have baby. I can't get a good job.

My husband, after 20 years, didn't learn how to wash the dishes. Okay, any problem in your life, financial problem, husband or wife problem, health problem, mental problem, I feel sad, I feel sad. They are like free doctor tonight.

They all have training. They know how to make a miracle.

They understand. So, during the break, ask them question, okay?

It's like McDonald's.

You can choose the french fries, or the Big Mac, or the milkshake. You see which one look good to you. And they will sit, I'm going to ask them to sit on the front of the stage, okay?

So I want to tell you some more about the story where I went to the restaurant. When I came home, I don't know, sometimes I think it's bad luck to talk about you met an angel, right? Sometimes it seems like you shouldn't talk about it.

I'll tell you why. If you tell your friend, I went to the restaurant, and the waitress is an old Jewish lady, but she told me someone who is doing this high Tibetan practice, they shouldn't have to pay for the meal. Next slide.

This is called rational mind.

You tell your friend, Oh, today I met a real angel in the restaurant. She looks like a Jewish waitress, but she's a Buddhist angel.

[Speaker 1]
Then they will say, I think I saw her in the Buddhist class yesterday. I think she knows you from the newspaper or something. She's not a real angel.

Then I said, how come I couldn't see her again? I heard that restaurant is not so busy. They probably let go of some of the waitress, you know.

So, be careful of this guy.

[Speaker 2]
He takes the magic and he makes it normal.

[Speaker 1]
No, no, no, you didn't see angel. You are mistaken. There's a rational explanation.

Your mind will also say the same thing.

[Speaker 2]
On the next day, your own mind will start to make explanation, like a stupid judge.

[Speaker 1]
Then you have to ignore that.

[Speaker 2]
Don't pay attention to your mind. Let the magic survive because the magic is possible and you have a choice.

[Speaker 1]
You can live in a magical world where there are angels, or you can live in a world of waitresses, normal waitresses. Why? Why is it possible there are angels?

Because of this. Then everybody knows it, but nobody uses it. Okay?

Let's do it very fast. What is this thing? Pen.

If a small dog comes here and I put this in front of the dog, what will the dog do? Bite it. Does the dog see a pen?

The dog's looking at a pen, but the dog doesn't see a pen.

The dog sees something to chew. Human sees a pen. The dog sees something to chew.

[Speaker 1]
Who is correct? Both. Animal rights.

Okay? Both are correct. The human got angry.

Why are you chewing on my pen? The dog also got upset. Why are you wasting a good chew toy?

Both are correct.

Okay? Now, next question. If I put this thing here, all the people go outside.

All the dogs go outside.

[Speaker 2]
At that time, which one is it?

[Speaker 1]
Pen or chew toy? No, we can say nada, nothing. Not pen yet.

Not chew toy yet. If the human comes back in, it becomes what?

Pen?

If the dog come back in, becomes chew toy. If both come back inside, which one?

[Speaker 1]
Both. There are two worlds there, dog world and human world. This is the ...

Can you show the waitress again? Chew toy. Comprendo.

Understand.

Okay? Chew toy. Could be a pen.

Okay?

Could be angel.

[Speaker 1]
Everything, every person can be angel.

[Speaker 2]
It can be normal. All the time, every day, every hour of the day, she is both. She is a pen and chew toy.

She is a normal waitress. And she is an angel. Okay?

Both are there. Okay? Both are there.

Understand? In Buddhism we call emptiness, right? Vacuidad.

We call emptiness.

[Speaker 2]
By itself, not a waitress. By itself, not an angel.

[Speaker 1]
Who made the waitress?

[Speaker 2]
I did. I put waitress seeds in my mind.

[Speaker 1]
Who made the angel? I did. I put the angel seeds in my mind.

Okay? So she can be both. Which one is more fun?

Which one is more fun? You want to see an old waitress or you want to see an angel? I like angels, okay?

It's up to you. If you want to live in a world just normal waitress, it's okay.

She will be. You plant normal seed, she will be waitress. She will be waitress.

Okay? You plant angel seed, special seed, same person will become angel. In Tibet, we say angel is coming from you.

You choose.

What do you want? You want an angel? You want to live with the angels?

Or you want to live with the waitresses, normal waitress? Myself, I think in the morning she can be a waitress, give me a good breakfast. In the afternoon she can be angel.

That's the best one. So I thought maybe we'd like to talk about how to make the seed in your mind for angel.

How do you plant angel seed in your mind?

[Speaker 1]
Why? In your life, I think, most people, they have an angel moment like five times in their life. Sometimes it lasts for five minutes.

Sometimes one hour.

[Speaker 1]
Then we love those days. It's very exciting to meet an angel. But then the angel changes.

She goes to the kitchen and she doesn't come back. Okay?

[Speaker 2]
So in Tibet, monk training, 25 years, how to see the angel all the time? Not just a few times. How to have angel moment every day?

[Speaker 1]
So I want to talk about those seeds. You can show that picture, I think it's number nine maybe. Okay, I'm sorry.

It's a little bit hot. This is a very nice movie. It's a very nice movie.

It's called Angel A. It's a French movie. Angel-A.

You have to try to see it. It's a great movie. The guy is some poor guy from Morocco.

And he came to Paris and he tried to get a job. Then he couldn't get a good job and he has to borrow money. But he made a mistake.

He borrowed money from the mafia.

And he did a good karma. He saved another person's life.

He risked his life to save another person's life. And that seed is strong enough, he can see her as an angel. He sees a pen.

Maybe yesterday he saw a chew toy.

Protect other people's things. Respect other people's relationship. Don't mess around with other people's wife or husband.

This will create a nice husband or wife.

You don't have to ask somebody else for husband or wife. Just plant them, and they will come. But, angel different.

How to plant the seed for angel?

You can pray. You can ask. Special karma.

Special seed.

I want to see angel. I want to see my husband as an angel.

I want to see my wife as an angel.

Then in your heart, you can pray to your husband. You don't have to say anything. Don't say anything.

Why? They will say, I'm not angel, I'm not angel.

I can't help you. Don't talk. In your heart, when you sleep, say, I know my husband is an angel.

Tomorrow, please show me. Show me a sign.

Ask them in your heart. In this angel making karma, asking them, plant the seed. Okay?

If you want money, what you have to do? Plant the seed.

Give money. If you want a partner, plant the seed. Help lonely person.

If you want good health, plant the seed.

Go to the hospital, help sick people. If you want angel in your life, before you sleep, make a quiet prayer, please be my angel. Please show me tomorrow, or next day you are angel.

And don't give up. Keep making this prayer. That plants a seed for the person to become angel.

Then you ask them, you know, just to be polite you say, what do you do, you know? I'm in charge of physics at University of California. You know, we design the rocket that goes to the moon, you know?

But it's very stressful, so I play the game sometimes. Then we are always making bad stories about other people. If you want to see angels regularly, you have to plant a different seed.

And it must be conscious.

And make up a story about somebody, okay? Oh look, two ladies came from China today. You know, I think one is Guan Yin, and the other is Amitabha.

it's a very high Buddhist practice. It's a very good way to meet angels. You are planting a seed in your mind to see your first angels.

She wake up for half hour to eat lunch.

Then I told my lama, I have to fire this lady.
