This is a very, very important principle today. It's called the karma engine, okay? And this is how yoga works on you.

Anyway, we wrote a book called How Yoga Works, and Claire published it. Where is she? Yeah, she and her father published it, okay?

WSA is too long, we sent them a shorter one, and they're going to come out with theirs next summer. But it's... In that book we explain this principle about how yoga works.

Because two people can go to the same yoga class, you know? I've seen this over and over. Two people come to the same teacher, they go to the same class.

One of them, like, hurts their neck very badly, right? And the other one comes out like, oh man, that was so ecstatic, you know? And it felt so good, you know?

I've seen Ruth Lauer, Lady Ruth, we did a sys on her one day, just to practice the sys, and she's like, got her all twisted up, and she's like, ah, ah, ah. She just reacts that way, you know? And then if you did that to me, I'd be, ah, ah, ah.

I saw her shrinking tiny breasts. I haven't seen her in action in two days, but I saw him laying on an American lady and crushing her. He was like 250 pounds or something.

And she was down like this, and he was going, he was laying on top of her, and she's going, ah, ah, ah, you know? So there's two different reactions, you know? Now, Lady Ruth would be, ah, ah, ah, you know?

And why is that, you see? Why do two different people have two completely different reactions to the same class? And that relates to what we call the ennin.

The ennin is called the koshas in the Hindu yoga teachings. It's called the five koshas. And these are different levels of your being, okay?

First level out is your physical body, your gross physical body, flesh and blood, okay? And that's the outside layer. Then the next layer down is your breath, okay?

Annamaya kosha, which feeds your physical body. So like you eat food and you drink water, but 90% of your sustenance comes from the air, okay? Like 90% of your health is due to what you breathe, and not what you eat or drink, okay?

So that's the next level down is your breathing. Then your breathing has this, ah, like psychic connection to your prana, okay? And prana is called ling in Tibetan, which means inner winds.

Qi in Chinese, I guess. I don't know other countries. But it's the inner wind of your body.

And everybody, nobody understands prana really. It's difficult to define. It's not your breath, okay?

That's one thing for sure, okay? And then prana, it is a physical thing, okay? The Tibetan scriptures all say it's a physical matter.

So it is a kind of, it has weight. It's physical. It's not just mental.

And then, but it's tied to the next level down, which is your thoughts, okay? So they say, ah, say, So the winds are, the prana is, is flowing through these channels in your body. And then the thoughts are jupa chupa with them, which means covered.

Ah, what's their name? Tandem. They are in tandem.

They always ride in tandem. Sometimes they say, A horse and a horse rider. So the prana is moving through these channels in your body.

And then your thoughts are taking wherever the horse goes. Okay, so as the prana goes, so goes the horse. So in the first chapter of the Yoga Sutra, you have that thing about, where is that?

Yeah. Angame jayatva means, dukkha dal manasya means, if you get physical pain, then you get mental pain. If you get mental pain, then the prana gets disturbed.

And if the prana gets disturbed, the breath gets disturbed. Okay? So the breath and the prana are like, we play sitars, and they have, I don't know if it's nine, eleven sympathetic strings underneath.

And then they, we basically hit one string up above. But every time we hit a note up above, like if you hit C up above, C down below goes off. And that's why it sounds like wah, wah, wah.

And the same with your breath and the prana. Okay? So if your breath is agitated, then the prana is agitated.

If the horse, note is agitated, the horse gets agitated. And if the horse is agitated, the horse man has to go on a trip and doesn't want to go on. Okay?

So there's this connection between your breath and your prana. And the big thing about yoga is that you work on your prana by working on your body. You see what I mean?

It's a spiritual thing that you work on your body. I always tell people like, how many people went to church or synagogue as a kid? I mean, yeah.

Pretty good. Yeah, but did they ever take you up to the altar and say, do 20 push-ups because it will help your spiritual life? You see what I mean?

It would seem ridiculous, right? You laugh, right? They never told you, come up to the front where the cross or the Star of David is and, you know, do 20 push-ups and you'll be a kinder person, you know?

And that's the miracle of yoga. That's the key of yoga. In Tibetan, they say, say, chino?

[Говорящий 2]
Chino.

[Говорящий 1]
Tabla? Tabla. So I bet.

[Говорящий 2]
So I bet.

[Говорящий 1]
This means, when you, after 25 years of study, and if you finish a geshe, then you're allowed to go to Tantra college. And then they might initiate you into Tantra. And then, after maybe a year or two, they might start teaching you yoga.

And when you enter the initiation, you have to take a vow. You take like, I don't know, 200 vows or something like that. There's eight main ones for this yoga Tantra, called the Mother Vows.

And one of them is chino, tabla, tabla. Chino means outside, tabla means inside. Tabla means, you have to work on both.

Okay? So it's like, your spiritual life has to go from the inside out and from the outside in. And yoga is unique among all spiritual paths that way.

You work on your body to affect your heart. You see? And that's just unique.

I mean, it's not, I don't know, there is a kind of yoga in Jainism and in the Sufi practices and like that. But generally, yoga is unique for that. So, you can work on your heart from the outside because of this onion skin thing.

Each layer is interconnected with the next layer. If there's a disturbance in the physical body, that will affect the breathing, that will affect the prana, and that will mess up your thoughts. You see?

If your thoughts are pure, the prana will flow smoothly, then your breath goes nicely, smoothly, and then the body gets its food and you get stronger and healthier and you look younger. Okay? So, you can work from the inside out or you can work from the outside in because of the connection between those different layers.

Okay? That's the basic onion thing. Alright?

And it's very, very important for learning asanas. Okay? During an asana, if you're not breathing right, you're messing up the prana.

That's why a lot of people do asanas and then become more aggressive people. Like, this is a problem with yoga today. Some people get more physical in a bad way, you know, and they're more likely to fight with people or compete with other yoga students, you know, and that's one reason is that you haven't controlled the breath.

And then the prana got messed up and then the thoughts get messed up. You should know there's two main channels. Nadi is in Sanskrit.

One goes from here, under the skull, but above the bone, down to here, and then, some people say right inside the spine, half inch, some people say within the spinal column, but it comes down here and then down to your groin and then slightly up to where your sexual organ is. So that's what we call sushumna or main channel, central channel. Then there's two side channels.

They start here. Termination point is here. In the Yama Sutra, by the way, I'll teach the Yama Sutra, we're going to cover the inner body, the next chapter of the Yama Sutra.

So third chapter of the Yama Sutra treats the inner body and it talks about these two main channels. So if you want to really know about it, you have to talk to Kimberley and come to the third chapter, which is when? I don't know.

Do you know?

[Говорящий 2]
It starts February 14th.

[Говорящий 1]
Say again? It starts February 14th. It starts February 14th?

That's auspicious. Okay, in New York City. But anyway, the third chapter is the one that treats the inner body.

So anyway, it talks about these two channels. On this side, on your right side, runs the Sun channel. It starts here, comes up to here on the right side.

And then it crosses around the central channel. Do it. It's a fun exercise.

Start kind of like here. That's why you get this itch here when you're thinking. When you look at pictures of the New Year, the recession, everybody's like this.

Really, that's the termination point. Comes up here, and then circles around the main channel, creating the Ajna Chakra. Then it comes up to here.

Now it's still on the right side. Slightly on the right side. Your right side.

It crosses over again. Comes down to the back of your neck. Crosses over again.

Comes down behind your heart. Crosses over again. Kristina's going to tell you about the chakras, right?

Today. Comes down to your lower back. Crosses over again.

Behind me later. Okay. Whatever it is, different people.

And then a slight one right down here, where your tailbone is. And then one in your groin. Okay.

And then comes up. There's a minor extension into your sex organ. Okay.

So these are the crossover points. In Tibetan, they call them Tishing. Say Tishing.

Tishing means a vine. You know how vines wrap around things? So in Tibetan, these two side channels are called the Tishing.

And the goal of yoga practice is to loosen them. Because when they tie around here, they check off the central channel. Within your central channel runs all your nice thoughts.

Okay. Like when you're having a good day, you got lots of prana in your central channel. When you come out of a yoga class, and you feel a bit euphoric, it's because the yoga has pressed a certain amount of wind into your central channel.

Prana into your central channel. When you're under strain, what I'm saying, you have wind flowing in your central channel. You see?

When you're doing penguin, and you're trying to give things to other people, and you're trying to take away their pain, huge amounts of prana are being pressed into the central channel. From the inside or the outside? From the inside.

That's like the rider telling the horse where to go. Okay. The thoughts are pure.

So the horse has to go. The prana has to follow the thoughts. Okay.

So if you have pure thoughts, if you do your yoga, doing this practice of giving away good things and taking away people's pain, then huge amounts of prana are forced into your central channel. Okay. It's very interesting.

Just by thinking. Okay. Just by thinking.

That's the inner movement. And then as you do your yoga, you increase the effect. You enhance the effect.

Okay. Why? Remember the thoughts flow into two side channels.

Sun channel over here, moon channel over here. Okay. Sun channel is no energy, daytime, fire, hot.

This channel is anger. Okay. This channel is wanting things in a selfish way and hurting other people to get them.

Okay. Moon channel. Feminine, white color.

This one is red. They're both opaque. Like blood and semen.

And that's also another connection. This channel is crystal and fire. Like an orange crystal.

Okay. So it's more like glass. And these two channels are opaque.

And they choke off. So they carry negative energy. So what's cool is when you do, for example, a twist to the left, you are...

It's weird. The Tibetan will say you are... I don't know how you say it.

It's as if the channel was broken and dilapidated. Dilapidated is a good word. And when you turn this way, the right-hand channel, the sun channel, is un-dilapidated.

It's restored to hell. And then the prana that causes anger disappears from... It can flow out of that channel into the central channel.

You see what I mean? So it's very interesting. Like you can work from the inside by doing this practice of giving people kindness and taking away their pain.

You are directing prana into the central channel. If at the same time you twist to the left, you are forcing prana into the central channel more. You see?

From the left side. Outside or inside? Outside.

See, that's qigong, that's a tantric vow. That's one of the eight highest tantric vows in Tibet. You must...

You take a vow when you enter tantric college. I really work from the inner and outer. And then they teach you the outer method, which is yoga.

And only after you promise to do it, they'll teach you the outer method. So the idea is kind thoughts are forcing prana into the central channel. At the same time, yoga...

Every yoga pose is meant to somehow force prana into the central channel. So, you're working on... We're not doing any movements in the central channel.

We're not. Shut up. We're actually doing it.

When you get a good amount of movement to the central channel, in meditation, you have two experiences. One is the direct experience of ultimate reality. Okay?

That sounds very isolating, very nebulous. What's it mean really? It means that if you see that thing for 20 minutes, you will become that angel on a billion planets within a short amount of time.

It's like a sign. It's like that triggers the final change of the body. The body won't change just by yoga.

You see? Yoga brings you up to that point. But you got to get a certain amount of movement to the central channel.

Then you see your ultimate reality. And then the body will change within a short time. And you actually see the day you will do it in advance.

You see the future. Which is very cool. You see yourself standing on a billion planets at once.

Taking care of everybody. You can reach this place where you see that. Yoga is meant to...

That's what happens when you get pretty big movement to the central channel. If then you open the heart chakra, you get an experience of ultimate love. This happens shortly after or shortly before the other one.

Sometimes within the same meditation period. And then you see every creature on every planet. And we talked about that the other night.

I don't know if you believe me or not, but it happens. If you open up this chakra for a few minutes, you see every being on every planet and you love them as your own child. As a mother with her own child.

That happens to you. If you open up just for a minute. With your eyes closed you see that.

Then you get all the movement to the central channel. The two bad channels. Bad guys.

I call them bad guy channels. They actually withdraw into the central channel. And the body changes into light.

And that's how you become that being. But that's why in Tibetan yoga you require to be out first and then in. Because there's this huge...

I don't know if it's implosion that happens at the last moment of your modern life. There's this huge like... Like the whole universe goes...

And then you change like that. That moment. So the reason of being in secondly is first you breathe out and then you go...

And you imagine that you turn into light. And then that's the season you learn for it to really happen. You see?

So it's very important when you breathe in this system the out-breath is the first half of breath one. The in-breath is the second half. And always on the in-breath every once in a while you stop and think...

Changed. You see what I mean? That's what happens.

That's it. The whole universe sucks in. The two side channels suck in.

And then you turn into light. Like that. The last moment.

So it's very important. It's very... Every movement is meant to plan a scene for your body to change.

Okay? Like that. That's all I have to say.

That's the ending scheme. We call it karma ending. Oh!

No, I forgot one thing. Well... Why did the one person get hurt?

And why did one person have a good time in yoga class? On one level if you're competitive like in a headstand and you're not glancing around at somebody else to see how they're doing two things are happening. The headstand is sending prayer into a central channel.

The jealousy, the competitiveness the envy is sending major prayer into this right hand channel. Only. Okay?

The neck burns the central channel. So it's like shooting tremendous amounts of water into a hose and then toiling it. And then something breaks.

You see? You get a shoulder injury. You get a neck injury.

Okay? That's... That's the root thing.

You see? People say why did one person get hurt going into the same yoga class? And the other person...

The root is sitting there like ahhh you know? And the other is sitting there ahhh you know? Why?

Prana. How do pranas move? Okay?

Like that. Where is the prana moving? Okay?

Are you thinking good thoughts or are you thinking competitive thoughts during the asanas? Okay? What I'm trying to say people get hurt thinking competitive thoughts during an asana.

Okay? That's why people get hurt. Okay?

That's the... In the end the inside layer of the onion is karma. Everything is karma.

[Говорящий 2]
Okay?

[Говорящий 1]
The way that the four or five lamas relate to each other the reason the wind is connected to your beard the reason if you breathe right you get healthier the reason one person gets hurt the reason the other person doesn't get hurt the reason you came here in the first place the reason you're on this planet ahh the timing of which you become an angel everything is karma. Everything.

[Говорящий 2]
Okay?

[Говорящий 1]
Like like my lama my first lama Vijayananda like thirty years ago he used to say you feel the air conditioning? That's karma. You know?

That little air on your body on your skin that's karma. And everything from that on up is karma. Okay?

We're going to study a text this weekend ahh it's a great king talking to a Buddhist monk in India before Christ and it was recorded somebody wrote it down Okay? And and the monk is struggling to explain to the king that everything is karma and the king wants to say well there's karma and there's sickness and there's spirits and no no anything is karma no no no no there's only some things are karma you know only bad stuff that happens to me is karma only when I get in an accident that's karma you know no no your toes is karma your nose is karma the wind is karma the sky is karma the sun is karma the reason the sun comes up is karma Okay?

Everything is karma So if yoga works on you or if yoga hurts you everything everything goes back to did you take care of other people today I always ask people that when they're like if I say be compassionate everybody goes yeah I'm compassionate what am I going to do to all of us you know and no no no did you take care of somebody else today up to now you know what time is it I don't know but did you take care of somebody else today that's karma that's going to decide whether your yoga works so like if you have to choose between an asana or taking care of somebody else you see what should you do it's a diamond dealer question the third one down and we got that you studied the second chapter yoga sutra what's a diamond dealer question do you know it

[Говорящий 2]
do you want the big yellow diamond

[Говорящий 1]
yeah the lady comes into the store like I didn't work in a store we were in we did piles of diamonds, right we were wholesale but anyway in the middle space the guy says the lady walks in and the guy she's like I can spend 500 dollars 500 dollars okay I got two diamonds for you you can take either this one or this one should I walk in there or would you rather take it in a box and she's like well I didn't decide to buy it yet so first you try that and then if she's smart she's like well I didn't decide yet and then she's like oh okay this one is is bigger but it's kind of yellow okay and this one is whiter but it's got these little black spots here now which one do you rather have you know and that's called dvandvah in the yoda sutra what's dvandvah duality get the mind on duality get the person thinking should I do this or should I do this and they don't think that they shouldn't do either one you see what I mean if they're going to walk out as weird as blood diamonds you see what I mean get their mind out of duality and then they don't think of the right thing so what were you talking about should you do your asanas or should you take care of other people yeah you see yeah don't let them tell you what those diamonds do you know so I don't even need a bell you know like this is so liberating you can be swallowing in your yoga studio and serving all living kind that's that's the idea and then the business talks again you can be a businessman and be serving all living beings you see what I mean you don't have to go live in a cave or a road in the desert or something like that you know what I mean you can serve everybody in your kitchen if you do don't learn you can serve other people with your asanas you have to you have to then they will learn because the only way asanas will work is karma okay if you don't collect the karma they won't work okay that's at the bottom of the onion that's inside the lowest level of the onion
