First of all, there's eight different levels you can take of ordination. And so I've taken, well, full monk's ordination about 15 years ago. And before that, eight years of novice.

And then studied, the course of study in the monastery takes about 18 to 20 years to finish the whole program. And then when you finish, if you graduate, you're called a geshe. And this is a name that comes from about 1,000 years ago.

And it's awarded if you've finished five great subjects. And that takes about 20 years. You have to memorize a lot of books.

And you have to debate. And then you finish. There's three great examinations you go through, rikchung, rikchen, and geshe in the monastery.

And the final examination is about, as I said, it's about seven days. And you have to debate each person in the monastery. My monastery has about 1,500 monks.

And it's in public. It's a large public park. And then each person can come up and debate with you in Tibetan and test you on your knowledge.

So it's like.

[Говорящий 2]
What was the failure rate?

[Говорящий 1]
The failure rate in my class was, so far, two out of 60 finished. Is that dropout rate? It's just people who never make it to the end of the course.

Either they get sick, or they die, or the two of us have finished, two of us have finished so far. I think one more will finish. So that's typical.

So I will come back to that. After that, normally, in Tibet, you were eligible to go to a special postgraduate sort of thing, which is called tantric college, and study the higher secret teachings. So in Tibet, only if you finish the geshe course, then you'd be allowed to go to another college and study.

It's about a four-year course. And then, normally, you'd start teaching, or you'd go off on a meditation retreat somewhere, or something like that. But we don't believe that all the thing is necessary for anybody.

Like, in Tibet, there was a big tradition of just normal people would go study these things from a lama, and then they would start doing their own practice in their own home. It's very much something that you can do in your own home. And I think in India and Tibet, there have been what we consider the greatest saints, or some of the greatest saints have been people who never became monks or nuns, and they did it in their own home.

And they did what we're talking about. So in our tradition, becoming a monk is optional. And it's not at all necessary for reaching the highest goals that we've been talking about.

So many, many people who never became monks or nuns had these experiences of meeting angels, or reaching final paradise, and many, many stories of people. So we think it's a little, maybe, faster, or a little special, but it's not at all necessary to have great things happen to you. Many what you would call businessmen, politicians, traders, people of normal occupations in Tibet would study these things, and become very good at them, and reach the highest goals of them without ever changing their occupation like that.

So we believe it's something anyone can do in their own home, in their own life, and not necessary to become ordained, or something like that. Yeah, lama means anyone who teaches. So it could be man, could be woman, could be young, could be old, could be ordained, could be non-ordained, doesn't matter.

Some of the greatest lamas of Tibet were business people, and taught people. Like the Dromtönche, the first great Tibetan lama, never became a monk, and was a businessman, and taught many people, thousands of people. So we believe that you can do that, and people should do that.

[Говорящий 2]
Yeah, yeah, yeah. So getting upset would be from a karmic nature, or just thought coming in?

[Говорящий 1]
It's a good question. You know, Buddhism talks a lot about self. You know, they say there's no self.

And then it got mistranslated to say there's no soul, or something like that. Now there's two... I can't use this pen, so I'll use this pen.

There's two kinds of self, nature. So, one is this, you know... By the way, we're talking about anger, okay?

How it relates to anger. So, does this thing have a self means, does this thing have a nature of its own? What do you think?

Does this pen have a nature of being a pen by itself, in and of itself? Does it have its own nature of being a pen? Which means that, anytime I pull it up and show it to a dog, or a human, or an Eskimo, will they see a pen?

No. So, we say it doesn't have a self nature of being a pen. That's what no-self means.

No-self doesn't mean I'm not Michael Roach, or... I don't exist, or I'm an illusion, you know, anything like that. So, we say self means this thing doesn't have any nature of its own.

And that's what no-self nature means. Now, not understanding that is called ignorance. And not understanding that leads to what we call self-cherishing.

And that's a totally different word. One is called dang-zin, one is called rang-chen-zin. And self-cherishing comes from not understanding that there's no self.

So, self-cherishing means taking care of myself, and not taking care of other people. It's a failure to understand that what I call myself is artificial. You see what I mean?

And this is actually our next meditation, so we can talk about that. But it's basically like this...

[Говорящий 2]
So, from that misunderstanding...

[Говорящий 1]
Yeah. All self-cherishing comes from... from not understanding what the self is, or self nature is.

But being selfish is a derivative of not understanding that there's no self. Okay? Yeah, being selfish depends on misunderstanding the pen.

You see what I mean? And all anger, all negative emotions, depend on misunderstanding this. We say if you think about this, you can't have a negative emotion.

And that's the direct antidote, or the direct cure, for all the problems of mankind. You know, especially the emotional problems. You cannot have a negative thought, and be thinking at the same time, that this thing doesn't have a self nature.

Why? You can't be understanding this pen, and also be angry, upset, jealous, anything. Why?

You can't have two thoughts at the same time. Well, we say they can alternate like in microseconds. So that's technically true, you can't have two thoughts at once.

But even this thought, and... the thought that this pen has its own nature, or this is a pen from its own side, is the source of all negative emotions. You cannot have anger, jealousy, desire, hatred, if you understand this.

Why? That's a big, important thing, you know. Well, you realize that if...

if there's no... how does it go? This is a classic use of wisdom.

The boss comes in, or somebody in your family comes in, and they say, you're stupid, you know. And then you have two choices, you can understand that they are like this pen, or you can get angry, okay? What does it mean to understand they are like the pen?

You look at them, and you say, this is an imprint that's coming back to me from my subconscious. I'm seeing them as an angry person, because of something I put in my mind. I put some weeds in my garden six months ago.

You see? It's like gardening. And that's why I have to meet this person, okay?

If you're thinking like that, if your mind goes through that process, can you be angry at them? Impossible. You understand where they're coming from, and you understand how to get them to come back again, would be what?

Be angry. You see, we say that wisdom, this is the perfection of wisdom, this is the last one, in fact. It's the one we're supposed to be doing right now.

Cannot coexist in one human mind with a negative emotion. And we say there's only one way to remove negative emotions, permanently, is to understand this thing. Like, if you went around and saw that every negative thing that ever happened to you was coming from your own imprints, then would you want to be bad?

It would be suicide. It'd be shooting yourself. You see what I mean?

It's very interesting. In fact, it's your last homework question. In fact, after...

Somebody asked me about our course in the monastery. After 18 or 20 years of work, study, meditation, memorizing, debating, 18 hours a day... You know, we get Tuesdays off, all right?

That's market day in India. The last question they come up to you, you know, and they go... koro la chi me ta, me be ye che.

It's the last question they ask you in 20 years. Koro la chi me ta, yo ta. Sho.

Yü te? Nyan bo? Nyan bo?

Say, nyan bo? Tom den? Ye be ye che.

[Говорящий 2]
Ye be ye che.

[Говорящий 1]
...that overwhelms all other kinds of thoughts. And that's the understanding about the pen. The perfection of wisdom.

And then they say, yin ba pao, you sure? And she says, duh, and then everybody, 1500 monks, get that hat, you know that big hat, and they go... and they throw it in the air, and everybody screams, you know?

And you can be a mile away, and you hear this... You know what I mean? And then you know a new person has reached their...

finished the course. You see what I mean? It's very exciting.

It's really like that, OK? We're going to go through the whole process once, OK? This is on your...

last homework. You're going to get your last homework to take home. Hopefully it won't stay there, OK?

These are six steps... to suffering. This is how the whole thing works on a...

This is what causes all the trouble in your life. We say that the main people... the main reason people are attracted to religion is to...

is to deal with suffering. In my case, it was the death of three people in my family within a year. I mean, that wakes you up.

That gets you... Almost every great religious seeker I've ever met had some kind of disaster, like their child was run over by a car, their mother died in their arms. I met this one guy in Mongolia, my translator.

I couldn't understand why this guy is religious, you know? Because he's the most rascally guy. He's a total rascal.

He said apparently he was in... alcohol... What do you call it?

Smuggling? Bootlegging? And he's...

He's just this outrageous fellow. And I'm like wondering, why did this guy get religious, you know? And...

Because he's still pretty much of a rascal. And then, finally one night, he breaks down and says... He tells us this story of running alcohol to Moscow from Odessa.

And... He comes with his partner, and he comes home one night, and... And the window's broken.

This is on the eighth floor. And... And then the police knock on the door and say, your partner was pushed out of the window, and he's dead, and we're taking you to jail.

This is a Mongolian in Russia in 1970s, you know? Like, very dangerous. And...

They grab him, and they take him to jail. And he's gonna spend life in Siberia, you know, breaking rocks or something. And...

And then somebody comes to the jail and says, he was selling me liquor at six o'clock, he couldn't have been up on the eighth floor. And they let him go, you know? And...

And his friend was murdered by somebody, and then he just totally changed. You see, everybody needs a good disaster like that, to get serious about. So, this is the six...

These are six steps of where pain comes from, okay? According to these ideas that we've been talking about. By the way, for those of you who care, these six steps were taught by somebody named Maitreya, who is the next Buddha to come, okay?

That's a long story, but anyway. So, we say it starts out with a seed for misunderstanding. Every creature in the world, dogs too, has this seed in them, for misunderstanding the things around them, okay?

And that's the problem. And that seed comes from the past. We say your soul has been around for a long time, and it always had that seed, and whether you're an animal or a human or...

whatever you are, you have this seed in your mind for misunderstanding things, okay? Number two, you start to misunderstand things. Like the seed wakes up, and you start to misunderstand things.

And that's the second step. So, then you start actively misunderstanding things. For example, you don't...

It's all that thing about the car, the car... the person, two people in the car, and the one person died, and the other person didn't die. And misunderstanding means, really believing, when you search in your mind, you just stop.

You see? You say, there's no reason for that. There can't be a reason for that.

You see what I mean? Just one person died, and the other person didn't die. And you stop.

Your mind stops. Your mind can't think about it, so your mind stops, and you don't worry about it anymore, okay? Something like that.

Misunderstanding that. Then you hold nice things and unpleasant things the wrong way. What's that mean?

I'm not supposed to use this, right? Okay. It means that, when something strikes you as pleasant, you think it's coming from its own side.

In your mind, you think, that thing is pleasant, in and of itself. It's not coming from me. The reason it's pleasant is not coming from me.

It is a pleasant thing. Or it is a bad thing. It's not my imprints making me see it.

It's not coming from me. That thing in itself is good or bad. That thing in itself is pleasant or unpleasant, okay?

This is all how you get in trouble. By the way, this whole sixth step takes about one minute. Okay?

Like, you look at something and you think, this is nice, or this is not nice, but you believe it's from its own side. By the way, it's obviously wrong, you know? If I hold this up, and I say, you know, half the people in the room say, this is pretty good, half the people in the room say, that's not so good.

Obviously, it's not coming from its own side. Obviously, it's coming from you somehow. But this ignorance, okay?

It says, no, no, that thing is good of itself. You see what I mean? That's why people get in fights about the radio in the car.

Right? I can't believe you want to play that song. That's the most terrible song.

You say, no, no, this is a great song. You see what I mean? You're believing that the song is good from its own side.

You see what I mean? And that's where misunderstanding and arguments come about. You see what I mean?

You think the song is good from its own side. You can't believe that this person would think that's a good song. The proof of this is like Picasso's paintings, or...

Some people look at it and say, you know, I can't believe people think this is a great painting. Andy Warhol, you know? And then other people look at it and say, no, this is brilliant, you see?

And art critics will get in big fights in the newspapers. That's why they can get in big fights. You see what I mean?

It's not good or bad from its own side. It's good or bad because you're seeing it that way. But this state of mind says, it's good from its own side.

It's bad from its own side. Okay? Yeah, and you believe that everyone should see it that way.

And you believe it's not just your perception. You believe that thing is, in and of itself, good or bad. This just happens at work.

When you meet someone you don't like at work, and they keep bothering you and irritating you. And then you go around the company. I worked in a company with 800 people.

And you go around the company and you try to find support. Right? You say...

You get at lunch, you're eating lunch with somebody, you say, what do you think about that person? And they say, I don't know, they seem okay. And you say, no, no.

You know, they say these things you wouldn't believe. They say, oh, really? And you say, yeah, oh, yeah.

And then they say, no, I still think they're pretty nice. And then you move to the next table. Don't you think this person's sort of bad?

Oh, yeah. Oh, okay, good. You understand.

The other person doesn't understand. You see what I mean? You have this human need to go through the company and gain support for your view of this person.

And the other people don't understand. And you do understand. You see what I mean?

Like that. That's a belief that it comes from its own way. Then you get what we call stupid liking and stupid disliking.

Now, you know, there's this thing about Buddhism. They say, oh, Buddhist monks are not supposed to like anything. Ice cream, movies, pizza, rock and roll.

Not supposed to like it. Supposed to sit there. You know, like that.

It's not true, okay? Of course you should like things. So does an enlightened person, you know, does an angel like things or not?

Do you think they just sit there and don't like anything? And don't dislike anything? Is this the goal?

Would you want to be like that? No, I mean, it's not the goal, okay? So what do they mean when they say you shouldn't have attachment?

Or you shouldn't have desire? What's the difference between liking something well and liking something the wrong way? If it comes from that other misperception, the one that came before, where you think the thing is good or bad from its own side, if you like it on that basis, you're headed for trouble.

Okay? You're headed for trouble. If you think that that thing is good out there from its own side, or you think that thing is not nice from its own side, and then you like it on that basis, you're in trouble.

You're headed for trouble. That's why we put the stupid there, okay? You know, does an angel like anything?

Of course they would like to see you be happy. Do they dislike anything? Of course they dislike seeing people go to hell, you know?

But what's the difference between them and us? What's the difference in how they like it or how they dislike it? They understand why the thing is nice.

Okay? If you like this pen, why? Why are you enjoying the use of this pen?

Why? Tell me where this pen really came from. Don't be a scientist.

A scientist is going to tell me, plastic, ink, factory, people working, the inventor. Not interesting to me. Tell me where it came from.

My imprint. Tell me why you met this pen today. Why are you in this room and this pen came to this room?

[Говорящий 2]
My imprint.

[Говорящий 1]
Yeah, some kind of imprint in your mind, okay? You did something in the past to make you see this imprint. What are the other two choices?

Oh, one, that it just came here by mistake, and there's a huge coincidence. You were here and this pen is here, okay? Number two, some guy put it here, some super being, and they put the pen here and they're waiting for you to get here, and then the pen is here.

Number three, it's here because you have an imprint in your mind to see it here. If you didn't have the imprint in your mind, you wouldn't see it here, okay? What's that got to do with number four here?

If you like this pen, what's the way to get more pens? Give it to other people. Do you get it?

You see? You have to understand the rule of imprints, the law of imprints, okay? If you like something, if you want more of something, what's the stupidest thing to do?

Try to keep it. Try not to share it with others, okay? Try to do something harmful to keep it, especially.

You see what I mean? Try to hurt others to protect your money, protect your house, protect your nation, like that. That's the worst thing you can do.

Why? It puts an imprint in your mind. This whole thing of the Christianity and the Bible, Jesus is not...

It's not just made up the Ten Commandments. They help you get what you want, okay? That's why you should keep the Ten Commandments.

They're smart. It's smart to keep the Ten Commandments, okay? And you should treat your brother as yourself, you know?

And you should give them what they want as much as you get what you want. You see what I mean? The way to get rid of the things you want in your life is to push away other people and take it for yourself, okay?

Why? Creates an imprint in your mind. And later you won't see that thing anymore, okay?

So, what is stupid liking? It's the kind of liking that would make you want to do something to hurt other people to get it. You see what I mean?

Why is it stupid? It gives you the opposite. It gives you the opposite.

You see? You gotta get into the mood. The...

what your human nature tells you to do. If someone yells at you, you do what? You yell back.

Someone says something bad to you, you... say something bad back. According to all this imprint stuff, what's the only way to get this person to come back?

Yell at them! You see, what you call your natural reaction, your human reaction, is the stupidest thing you can do, okay? People say, I gotta defend myself.

No, you don't have to defend yourself. You're just gonna ask him to come back again. You see what I mean?

What did Jesus say? Yeah, I used to wonder, mom, what's turn the other cheek mean? What's the cheek got to do with it?

It's quite literal. Somebody hits you in this side of your face, offer them the other side of your face. Come on, that's crazy!

You know what I mean? If you really said it that way in the church, you don't say turn the other cheek, you say, when I hit you on this side of your face, then just stand there and give me the other side, so I can hit that one too, okay? And you say, you're crazy!

You know, no, according to this idea, it's not crazy at all. You see what I mean? It's very interesting.

Someone, you know, if you want something, then give it to other people. It's very interesting. You want to get rich?

Give away your things. It's amazing. It's incredible.

Because that puts an imprint in your mind that things come to you. It's very amazing. It's incredible.

You can use it, you know? I teach this to business people. They get rich.

They come back and thank me. It's really funny. In Australia, we had, I don't know, 400 business people while we were there.

And they just, they love it, you know? It's cool. Yeah?

And it seems like if you give them away, it would make any difference whether you had no money. Yeah. Giving away something you don't really need and giving away something you really need, it's much different, you know?

Giving away something you'd like to keep or something you kind of would like to have is more powerful, if the other person needs it. Now, there's lots of factors. There's six or seven different factors.

You say, I mean, how bad does the person need it? How much love is in your heart while you give it? Do you really have this totally selfish motivation of just helping yourself, OK?

Is it wrong to help yourself? Is it wrong to use this stuff to get rich? Not at all, OK?

Is it lonely and stupid? You say, I mean, should you expand it to other people? Of course.

You say, I mean, it works for yourself alone, but it's no fun, OK? I mean, better to use it and get some money and help other people, you see what I mean? And have that motivation from the beginning, OK?

[Говорящий 2]
Being aware of the process makes it more powerful.

[Говорящий 1]
Being aware of the process makes it infinitely more powerful. You see what I mean? To give away things to poor people because your mom said so, because your teachers told you to, because the church says to, because the Bible says to, because the law says to, because your friends are doing it, is all very weak, you see what I mean?

Because you don't understand why you're doing it, you see? You can give away some food to Kosovo, they'll eat it, and then the next day they'll need 250 tons more. You see what I mean?

This is different. This is much different. You give it away knowing that something powerful is going to happen to you.

And what's the use of that? Well, then you can teach other people how to do it. You see what I mean?

What if everybody did this? According to this idea, what if everybody in this room gave away most of their extra money to help people who really need it? What would happen?

What would happen? Come back to you, personally, as what? Money?

OK. Then what would happen? How much money?

I mean, theoretically, it's limitless. You see, if you keep reinvesting it, it's limitless. So, are you telling me that every person in this room, or everybody in the world, if the whole world did this, would the whole world get rich?

Yeah, that's exactly what I'm saying. It's not true that there's a limited amount of money in the world and you have to share it or something like that. It's not true.

Money doesn't come from there. Money comes from being generous. If everybody in the world was generous, everybody would have enough money.

It's a very interesting idea. You see, you would call that what? Everybody would go to heaven.

How's that? You see what I mean? We believe it's totally possible.

It's not true that there's a limited amount of money in the world. That's not true. Money is created by giving away things.

[Говорящий 2]
It's the consciousness. We think that we have.

[Говорящий 1]
Yeah. So, anyway, if you get stupid liking and disliking, what are you likely to do next? Hurt others to get things or avoid things.

If you don't understand the thing about the pen, if you don't understand why you like the pen, then you would do what people do all day long. Just try to hurt others to get away from something or to hurt others to get something. Okay?

So, we say you can't do a bad thing without misunderstanding things. You see what I mean? If you understood about the pen, you would never do anything wrong.

If you understood that you can only get money by giving money away, would you ever steal money? If you understood this thing, would you ever want to steal money? You see what I mean?

It would be just stupid. And this is the process. These six steps are like the six stupid steps.

Okay? It would just be stupid. That's why Buddhism has a big thing about ignorance.

You know, the cause of all suffering is ignorance. This is exactly what it means. Okay?

Exactly what it means. Ignorance of where things are really coming from. Okay?

Everything has a cause. There's a reason why one person gets killed in a car accident and the other person doesn't get killed. Everything has a reason.

Okay? And it's all the imprints in your mind from either helping other people or hurting other people. Okay?

Okay, last thing. Then I'll answer questions. It starts a self-perpetuating cycle.

In Tibetan it's called korwa. In Sanskrit it's called samsara. It means a self-perpetuating cycle.

What do I mean self-perpetuating? Let's say somebody comes in your family, comes down for breakfast time and they say, Mom, you're really stupid. You know?

And then you say what? By the way, where are they coming from? They have a headache from last night.

No, not like that. Okay? Where are they really coming from?

Why are they speaking badly to you? Because you have an imprint to see someone speak badly to you. If you didn't have this imprint, they'd come down and say, Good morning, you're the most wonderful mom I ever had.

Okay? Something like that. I'm serious.

Totally serious. So they come down in the morning and they say, You're stupid. I don't want to do what you told me to do.

Where's that coming from? You said something unkind to someone else. Okay?

Now what's the normal human reaction? Retaliate. No, you're a stupid kid and you never clean up your room.

Okay? Now what seed have you just planted in the garden? In six months, what?

She or he will come down again and say, Mom, you're the stupidest mom I ever saw. And then you'll say what? No, you're the stupidest kid anyone ever had.

Then you just planted another seed. For what? You see, it's a...

what do you call it? It's like a... a cycle of violence or something.

You see what I mean? It's a self-perpetuate. Kordwa or samsara in Tibetan Sanskrit means it just keeps running itself like that.

You keep running it. There's this Wheel of Life painting in Tibetan monasteries. The Buddha said, Everyone has to keep one at the front door.

Every front door to every Buddhist temple has to have this painting. Okay? Why?

It describes these six things in twelve steps. It describes this process. And the way you break it, the way you break the cycle of violence is what?

Understand the thing about the pen. That's all. All you have to think of is the pen.

Every time you ever have trouble again in your life, just think about the pen. Really. Okay?

Anytime someone harms you, think about the pen. This is my imprint that I planted coming back to me to hurt me. Now, what should I read?

He said there was something I had to remember to do. What was that? Don't do it again.

Just don't do it again. That's all. If you remember the pen, you won't do it again.

You see what I mean? You just break it. Break that cycle.

Break that cycle. Refuse to get angry. You know, I would not like to meet you again.

You've been bad to me today and I'm gonna eliminate you. Okay? How?

Refuse to be bad back to them. Break this cycle. You see what I mean?

This whole thing is a big circle and you get caught in it your whole life and it just keeps going down like that. You see what I mean? You look at it from the top, it looks like a circle.

You look at it from the side, it's like... it's like this. Your whole life is getting more and more miserable.

I'll tell you one thing. I'm not gonna see you for a while. Today's the last time I'll see you, probably.

For a while. I'll tell you how it really, really works. Okay?

This is like, top secret. Very briefly. Okay?

I'm not kidding. But just for your information, okay? We say, sem la jak shu.

Keep it in your heart until we meet again. You have a physical body. And you have physical breath that comes in and out of your body.

You have a very subtle, spiritual body. This is the basis on which the angel will be created. Okay?

You have the seed in you to be an angel. There's some physical part of your body. It's very subtle, it's like light.

You can't see it. You see, if you cut the body open, you won't find it. It goes from here, it comes under your skull, it comes behind here, comes in front of your backbone, and comes down to here, and then comes to here.

And that's some kind of very subtle, physical basis of your whole life. You know? And it has choked spots in it.

They're called ne. There are certain spots where the... It's like a channel.

It's like an empty pipe. And there are certain points where it's choked. They're called choked points.

They're called chakras. There's points in your body where this thing is restricted or choked. And so things can't flow properly.

Things are not going properly. Now, if the flow of... By the way, when you have an amazing experience, and frankly, during a sexual orgasm or something, that is totally open.

For one second, at the very peak of the happiest time in your life, that thing was very open. The most compassionate you've ever been, or the most kind you've ever been, the channel was completely open. And there's this thrill that goes down your spine.

It's totally open. If that thing stays open for enough time, for long enough, if you can keep it open, your body starts to change into an angel's body. That's actually how you get to heaven.

Physical equipment is there in your body already. It's like choked. It's like...

No, it is. I'm not kidding. I'm not kidding.

When they see this pen, what do you think they feel? Exactly that. All the time.

All the time. From everything. Total ecstasy all the time.

That's what ecstasy means. I'm not kidding. It's open all the time for them.

They see a basketball hoop. They have that experience. All the time they're having that experience.

It's very interesting. The trick is, how do you keep it open all the time? Then your body actually starts to change.

Don't think angels are sitting there like bored. They are in total ecstasy all the time. And it feels like that.

All the time. From every object. It doesn't matter if they look at a tree, or look at the sky.

It doesn't matter. That's how they feel all the time. All the time.

It's open all the time. So, how do you keep it open? Understanding the pen is the most powerful thing.

Very interesting. Compassion. Those two things.

Real compassion for other people. And understanding this thing is like a pipe cleaner. Keeps it open.

If you keep it up long enough, your body will start to change. That's how you get to heaven. According to this idea.

Now, small interesting thing. Every time you hurt another person, every time you say an unkind thing to another person, every time you have the slightest negative thought towards another person, there's a small choking at those points. Chakras are nasty little knots.

They're not beautiful little flowers. That's all wrong. These are nasty, nasty little choke points in your body.

In your spiritual body. And every time you have a negative emotion, which happens how often? No, it happens about every two or three minutes.

Or more. Little. I'm saying little.

I don't like the sun. I don't like this feel. It's a little cold.

There's little thoughts going on all the time. Each one of those chokes it a little more. Every time you have one, it chokes it a little more.

And it's responsible for aging. It's responsible for getting older. The accumulation of those negativities chokes.

This is how your life runs. Your life and your mind is running in this channel. Your thoughts and the energy of your body is running in this channel.

If you could stop being negative, if you could keep your book. Now we have to talk about the book, right? If you keep the book well and you can watch it, you don't get older.

It's very interesting. You meet lamas who look like they're 25 years old. Really.

My lama is almost 80. He's like running up and down the stairs. He's painting the walls.

It's different. The body works differently. You see what I mean?

It's very, very interesting. You can stop that process. If you open it up completely by being good all the time, then your body changes into the body of an angel.

And it forces you to see the things around you as angels and heaven. And then you went to heaven. Okay?

We believe you can do it. Everybody in the world can do it. Anybody with a mind can do it.

And that's how you do it. It's very interesting. It's really interesting.

And you can stop the process of aging. Last question. How many people did you ever see do this?

Why does that guy have a bald spot if he can do this? A hasn't got there yet. No, if you change your imprints, does that change my imprints?

Big question. If you follow a perfectly pure way of life around your family in the kitchen, right? This is your arena.

Okay? And if your body starts to change, will I see it? No, because nothing has any reality of its own.

Forget it. There is no pen. It's just if you can see the pen.

See what I mean? You can say that I'm seeing this one way, the dog's seeing it another way. But what is it really?

It's a cylinder. Okay? You see what I mean?

There is no pen beyond that. Which means you will change. You will start to change.

It doesn't mean I'll see you change. You see what I mean? Did I go to heaven because you went to heaven?

Do I see your body change because my and I haven't changed my deeds? Can you see Jesus walk on the water if you're not very close to walking on the water yourself? We say no.

You know, you will not have the imprints, you will not have the honor of being there to watch him if you're not close to that. You know what I mean? It's very interesting.

It takes a certain amount of imprints to see something, a miracle happen. It takes almost that many imprints. I'm sorry.

It takes a lot of good imprints to make a miracle happen, to walk on water. It takes almost that many imprints to see someone walk on water. It's very interesting.

You have to be at the same level. A dog can be in this room and swear that there's no pens in this room. Is he right?

That's a long story. You know, he can't see the human reality. You see?

He sees the same shapes, he hears the same sounds but he doesn't hear words like that. He doesn't think consciously about that. Where's that poor dog?

Anyway, you see what I mean? There are two realities going on in this room, a dog reality and a human reality. He doesn't see our reality.

There's an angel reality going on here. Certain people in this room may have reached it already. And they might look just the same to you as they looked yesterday.

You see what I mean? Because you didn't change anything. It's very interesting.

You don't have to go somewhere else to find heaven. This is it. Oh, do you just have to see it?

No. You have to do some gardening. You have to put those things in your mind.

That's why you have to be a good person. Okay? You got to get used to that.

There is no room beyond those two things. You see what I mean? Yeah?

You mean make you crazy or something like that? I don't think so. I don't think so.

I think life will make you crazy before that. Not doing it will make you dead. By the way, that's all very, very, like, secret Buddhism.

There's secret methods to working with those channels. And I'm not going to get into it. But I want you to know how it works.

Aging itself can be reversed. Death itself can be prevented. And that's really what we're here to talk about.

That's really what you would... Excuse me? Absolutely.

Angels don't die. And they don't get bored and they don't get old. Okay?

It's not like they look really ugly because they've been around for a thousand years and they have these huge wrinkles and... It's not like that. The condition of death is a mistake.

You see what I mean? The condition of getting older in what you see now is a mistake. You don't have to live like that.

You don't have to be like that. You don't have to go through this. This is a mistake.

The world that you are living right now, where you can't keep anything, you know, it's a big mistake. It's just a... We made certain mistakes.

We don't understand certain things. You don't have to stay here. It's very interesting.

It's really interesting. The whole Christian thing is true. The whole Bible is true.

The Jesus thing is true. You can get out of it. You don't have to be here.

You know what I mean? It's a mistake. And you just have to keep your book.

So we have to talk about a book. Because now you've got the theory. From the quietness I understand you've got the theory.

Right? Yeah. Yeah.

Yeah. Very bad, nasty little things.

[Говорящий 2]
They are...

[Говорящий 1]
They have to be straightened out. And then there are centers of energy. How's that?

In their current condition they are causing you a lot of problems. In their current condition. They are making you old.

And... Yeah. They are actually knots around the other pipe.

And I can't tell you much detail because it's for later. But yeah. They are nasty, dirty little things.

Yeah. When you open them they become wonderful centers of energy. You can say that.

Yeah. Yeah. We've got to go to the book.

You guys got that list? That... Yeah.

[Говорящий 2]
Don't mind. Yeah.

[Говорящий 1]
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

[Говорящий 2]
It's a good question.

[Говорящий 1]
Yeah. He said... He's asking a question about chakras and if they are spinning one way does it mean one thing and if they are spinning another way another thing.

It's very, very complicated. It's very deep. It's very secret.

You have to be trained to do it. Long story. Long story.

In general you are on the right track. In general your spiritual basis of your physical body changes according to the holiness of your life and your thoughts. How's that?

Okay. It gets healthier and more robust and it starts to work. It's like bad plumbing right now.

It's like stopped up plumbing. No joke. It's exactly like that.

And when you start living a good life, when you start following these things, it starts to open up. What happens as it opens up? What do you guess?

What if you start to loosen it up? We're not talking like the toilet is going down easy but it's like gurgling down. The good imprints are causing that but what's going to happen in your personal life?

It's those four steps we talked about before. Yeah, first you get improvements, then you get surprising things, then you get amazing things, then you get miracles. Really.

Okay? Do they start with miracles? No, come on.

Does the toilet go down whoosh? It's stuck right now. Loosen it up a little bit and then your boss will give you a raise.

First one in three years. Okay? Did it come from itself?

No. Where is it coming from? Your imprints.

It's starting to loosen up a little. You see what I mean? And then things happen more and more.

It accelerates, it accelerates. Yeah? Good question, yeah.

Can you go back? There are certain levels that you cannot fall back from. There are five levels that you go through.

Sok, chok, tong, gong, mi, lop. These are five different levels that you go through. And once you reach a certain stage, especially the third one and the fifth one, you cannot go back.

Okay? So once you become an angel, once the... I can't tell you exactly what happens to the channels, but it's a long story.

But when they are properly... when everything's fixed, you cannot go back. Okay?

Why? You understand how everything works. You keep...

you know, right now you don't understand, so you perpetuate the suffering. You keep calling new irritating people into your life. I'm not kidding.

You are begging them to come into your life. How? You're unkind to other people.

You react to irritating people. And then you're like... you're like a...

you know, you're like a pollen to a bee. They come. They have to come.

You're calling them. I want to meet more irritating people. Why?

Because I'm being bad to the irritating people I have now. You see what I mean? What's the opposite of that?

You know, my body is starting to straighten out. I do feel younger than five years ago. And, ah, I understand how it works.

Now I'm going to be good to everyone. I'm going to respect life. You see what I mean?

Now I understand how it works. I'm going to put more effort into it. You see what I mean?

And then it becomes an opposite spiral, like that. Yeah. Yeah.

So, no, angels don't go back because they understand how to keep it running. Okay? All right.

Yeah?

[Говорящий 2]
...

[Говорящий 1]
Ah... I'll tell you something. The whole thing about the chakras is secret.

Okay? It's tantra. And that's secret.

You ... until they have a firm foundation in other teachings. And it's taught one by one.

It's taught one by one. They tell you... You see what I mean?

They come to you and they say, Okay, you're ready.

[Говорящий 2]
... ... ...

...

[Говорящий 1]
Oh, there are people who are there. Yeah.

[Говорящий 2]
... No.

[Говорящий 1]
No, you'd see them as some normal person.

[Говорящий 2]
... ... ...

[Говорящий 1]
... In Mongolian, the word for empty is hosn. So, they'd ask me a question and I'd say, And everybody goes, ...

You wouldn't necessarily see them for who they are. There are many stories in the holy books of great tantric teachers that look like real rascals. Does that mean that every rascal you meet in a red robe is a tantric teacher?

No. That's a big problem, too. Okay, so you have to be careful.

You really have to be careful. But in the real, sweet, true, beautiful, exquisite tradition of these things, it's passed down quietly, one-on-one, one-on-two, teacher-to-student, and you have to be totally ready. How do you get ready?

Prensa! And you attract them to come to your city by doing this. You see what I mean?

They must come. You know, you don't invite a tantric teacher. You don't write to Dharamsala India and say, you know, we have collected 50,000 pounds now, please send one.

It's not like that. They have to come when you're good enough. It's very interesting.

You know, that whole relationship is totally, totally different. You can't demand it, you have to earn it. It's very interesting.

Okay. Okay, and this is the guidelines for the six-time book, okay? I just wanted to make sure that everybody understood how to book.

And then the last thing we have to do after we take a break is talk about how to get rid of old, lousy imprints, okay? Because all of us have some things in the closet, skeletons in the closet. Okay.

Okay. This is exactly what we've been through this whole week, weekend. And I want to make sure it's clear to you.

So, you know, every two hours you should be checking the next one. Okay? Every two hours you should be checking the next one.

What we do when we get up in the morning, you know, after, well, actually we do it before meditation. We make out our book. You take that book, you take one side.

Take the left side. Fill it out like that. How does this work?

The thing is, it's not attached, look. And switch this. Okay, thank you.

Okay, we'll go through. So let's say you're going to start your book tonight at, let's see, 8, 10, 12, 2, 4, 6, let's say 6 p.m. You'd start, well, you really should put 6 p.m. down here. Here's 4 p.m. Here's 2 p.m. Here's noon. Here's 10 a.m. Here's 8 a.m. You know, we started out these talks by saying you could be the one saint on your block, in your neighborhood. You could be the one angel in Galway. This is how you do it.

It's just plain old hard work. Every two hours, have to stop, check what you're doing. And you're gardening.

If you don't do this, nothing will happen. Don't come back to me next time I come to Galway and say, my meditation's not working, I didn't see any angels, I still have big debts on my credit cards. You know, don't give me that, okay?

You have to do it. Otherwise, nothing, okay? You can go to these inspiring lectures, you can say, I believe everything you say.

And then, if you don't do this, it doesn't help you at all. Really, nothing will change. You'll be just the same next year, except you'll be a little older.

Maybe a little unhappier. You have to do this. If you're interested, anytime you take a tantric initiation, you must do this.

That's one of the rules. You must keep these things. And there's no thing here that's not totally consistent with your current religious life.

You know what I mean? Whatever religion you are, it doesn't matter. These are all sweet.

These are all probably what they wanted you to do all along. You see what I mean? There's nothing here about, you know, bowing down to Buddha figures or anything like...

Nothing. It's just being good to other people. It's all pure.

In fact, if you look at the ten guidelines, they're the ten commandments. They happen to be the same. Now, that could be a coincidence, or it could be that somebody in one country and somebody in another country realize that you have to do these ten to create heaven.

Okay? I tend to think it's the second. Okay?

Really. Nothing here that wouldn't be good for anyone. You see what I mean?

No problem. Doesn't matter what you say you are. It really doesn't matter.

In fact, I think there's even a problem with saying you're one thing and not doing it. You see what I mean? Better to do one thing than to say you're two things?

It doesn't matter what you are. It doesn't really matter. Just keep these, and like gravity, it works.

You see what I mean? It doesn't matter what country you're from. I do this all year.

I go from continent to continent, country to country, language to language. And, I mean, it's even a pleasure to be here because I get to teach in English. You know what I mean?

And it doesn't change. It doesn't matter where you are. These things are like gravity.

They work everywhere. It doesn't matter. And they're consistent with what you've grown up with.

I think you'll find later that you go back to the Bible and you really, really love it. You'll really, really appreciate it. You'll say, ah, now I know how you can walk on water.

This is not some crazy myth from the old days. Something like that, okay? So, eight o'clock, you check number one.

Giving... material things. And then you do a positive and a negative and a plan.

Okay, so anybody want to give me a real positive? Give me a real one for your life. By the way, three rules.

Has to be small and specific. You have to put the time and the place. Okay?

Gave a material thing. Yeah, you just gave me a sheet. Really?

Maurice gave me a sheet of paper. Alright? Yeah, so gave a sheet of paper.

Gave the paper at three whatever time in the presentation school. Okay? Negative.

Say again?

[Говорящий 2]
Oh, oh, oh.

[Говорящий 1]
Didn't give money to someone asking on the street. By the way, there was a big debate in New York about this. No, I mean, there's hundreds of people with their hands out on the street.

Yeah, what do you do? They asked my Lama. I mean, my Lama's been to New York.

He's seen New York. They said, what are we supposed to do? There's a couple of rules about giving.

A. Do you really have the resources? You know what I mean?

Like, if you have enough extra money, it's okay. If you don't have money which is properly yours to use, does your family agree to your giving away the money? Do you have debts that you should be using the money for first, which you already owe the money to somebody else, and now are you going to give it away for some religious purpose?

That's not proper. Take care of the debts you have, and then give away money. Now, if the debt is controlled debt, like a credit card, and it's normal to have a thousand dollars of debt in America, or more, it's okay to give money in addition to that.

If that debt's already part of your life, and you're managing the debt properly, you don't have to stop all charity until you pay off the debts, okay? I'm not saying that. But don't spend money that's not yours for religious purposes, okay?

So, that's the second thing. Thirdly, do you have a reasonable... Can you reasonably assume that this person is going to use this money for something that will hurt them?

Drugs, alcohol, weapons? If you do, then it's not charity to give it to them, okay? You should not give it to them.

You see, I mean, in New York it's a lot like that. And you have to draw... You have to judge them in a way, which is dangerous, but...

But if you have a reasonable appearance that they're going to use it to hurt themselves, then... We're talking, you have the money, you're not... You know, you have the money, you just didn't feel like stopping and helping this.

They obviously needed it badly, and you just ignored them. That's a different thing. Yeah?

Just on that last one, that's something I've thought about before.

[Говорящий 2]
The last one, who they hurt themselves, you know. I've often stopped to give money to people on the street, and somebody who's with me might say, Oh, he just walked by a drink van. And I say, Yes.

And did you work? And they say, No. And I say, Ah, so I knew it.

And they say, Well, my husband works. And I say, Yeah, he just bought 12 drinks last night for your friends.

[Говорящий 1]
So they're middle class and resourced. And I often feel that it's not necessarily for me to judge how somebody might want to spend their money, but that doesn't mean that it shouldn't be time to have some money. Yeah, yeah.

I think it's a good attitude. I think it's a good attitude. Just as a Buddhist we're not allowed to help someone drink.

Okay? So that's just a Buddhist thing. Also, if you have a reason to think that this is really being harmful, in New York oftentimes they're very sick from it.

And I'm saying, if you can see obviously that it makes them very ill. Yeah. Okay.

To do. Anybody have a to do? Yeah.

[Говорящий 2]
Yeah.

[Говорящий 1]
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

Oh, no problem. No problem. I mean, find also there are many, many places to give your money to.

You know what I mean? Like, I think you have to... One thing about charity, one thing about religious giving of money, according to this system, you have to be selective, you have to be smart, you have to be farsighted, you have to be like a wise investor.

We're not saying give away your money foolishly. Like, the people who do this well have identified a charity which is active, which works, which people are not skimming off the money. You know what I mean?

Your responsibility is to find a place to put it, which is good, and that takes a lot of work sometimes. To really find an authentic person who needs it, and then to give it to them in a proper way, and make sure all the money is accounted for. I mean, we go to India, we support 2,000 refugee Tibetans.

And we go there, we make them bring the books out, we check every single penny, you know, we don't send them more if it's not well accounted for. We make sure the children get the money, we make sure that school is buying milk and eggs, we have spies there, you know, making sure they get certain food every day, and yeah. No, giving is an art form.

It's not just a stupid thing where you're just handing out money, okay? You have to identify people who really need it, and then you have to take the interest and the responsibility to follow up and make sure it's done well. And if it's not done well, you should stop giving to that, and give it to someplace else.

So, I think there's this kind of lazy religious giving, where you just, oh, you put it in this little box, and maybe it goes to Africa, and maybe it goes to some executive headquarters in London, you know? You know what I mean? So, yeah.

You have to be, you have to work hard to give away money properly. Oh yeah, totally important. Yeah.

We talked about it when we started. What was the best attitude? Yeah, I will be.

This money will make—giving away this money will help me to reach a certain state of being, state of holiness. From that state I can help other people, you know? You give away 50 pence, you give away one pound, and you say, you never give it away without thinking, I would like to become a true saint to help other people, you know?

I would like to become the next Mother Teresa, even if it's in my kitchen. You see what I mean? But never give money without that intention.

We started out at the beginning by saying that. You have to have that in your mind. Each person in this room has a capacity to become the next Mother Teresa, or the next Jesus, or—we believe that.

You have to play the scales first. You know? But you will be the next one.

In your small little world, that's fine, no problem. Don't think that, you know, this guy is a carpenter. You know?

That's how it started. Okay? You have to start with your current world, okay?

To do. Do what? Yeah?

Oh, yeah. It's a—it's a rule of giving that you have to meet your commitments that you have here first. You see what I mean?

Yeah, yeah, and that's giving. Yeah, and be—but you see, give it thinking—there's two ways you can give it. One is, he's hungry and I'm feeding him, because he's my kid.

That gives a certain kind of good imprint in your mind. But if you say, I'm feeding this person so that I can eventually become a perfected being and help other people from that basis, you have to think like that. Then it's a much more powerful thing.

The same action is a much more powerful imprint. You'll have more money later, you'll have more opportunity later, you will become someone who can affect many other people. It's very interesting.

It's just a difference in how you think about it while you feed them. The feeding is exactly the same. Yeah.

And do you have a responsibility to the people right around you first? Yes. We're not suggesting that you give up your other commitments, you know?

I misspoke, I think. Angela told me it sounded like I said you have a choice between your family and becoming this saint. What I meant to say was you become the saint with your family.

You see what I mean? What I meant to say was you have a choice between dying as a normal person or not dying. You see what I mean?

That's what I meant to say. You have a choice between, at any given moment in your life, you can either be a normal person, or you can be some extraordinary person. And it all depends on how you give.

You know? Thinking about I can become an angel by giving this thing, and then think what you can do. We said before the angels have this extra capacity of what?

You can send out other forms. You see what I mean? One angel can create a thousand bodies.

It's very interesting. You have your home body, your headquarters? You know?

You do. You have your headquarters body. And it's very beautiful.

You know? And then you can send out other bodies all over the place to help people. So that's the idea.

The idea is, when you feed your child, from now on, in the back of your mind, I'm creating an imprint in my heart. I want it to come back to me as a perception of me being an angel. And I want that angel to be able to send bodies all over Galway, all over Ireland, wherever someone needs it, he's there, she's there.

You can be a dog, you can be someone's wife, you can be someone's grandmother, you can be someone's infant, you can be a tree. We believe that. Okay?

So that would be wonderful to be able to do that. Every time you give something, have it in the back of your mind. Okay?

To-do. Give me a to-do, and then you can have some tea. Feed myself tea.

No. Some little plan, reasonable plan, something you can really do. Give someone else tea.

Right now. Okay? Like that.

And this kind of behavior, if you keep it up every two hours, changes you. I can't do anything beyond about an hour from now. You'll be on your own.

You know? If you keep this seeing, you get all these amazing things. I mean, we say it's a...

A quality of it is that you'll get more than you could wish for right now, because you can't even... you can't even guess what it would be like to be like those people. But you yourself can become some kind of extraordinary saint in your own home, and in your own life.

The way you're living it now. Okay? But keep these things like that.

Yeah?

[Говорящий 2]
There must be a great art in how to give as a mother and a teacher. you know, sometimes you... I'm just wondering about over-giving.

And you know the way to say you can spoil it and make a person selfish. There must be a great art in knowing when to not to give in a way and to hold back. And how to give and how to listen and how to look.

[Говорящий 1]
Yeah. You have to consider the effect on the other person. You can spoil a child and ruin a child by giving them too much in the wrong way.

You know that. So, yeah. That's not giving anymore.

Yeah. And the purpose of giving is to get back. So you can then I don't know, take possibly further teaching like travel to a temple for your own self.

Then come back as a lamb or whatever. That's fine. It should always be in the back of your mind.

I'm giving away a pound. I know I will get 10 pounds back. No question.

There's no question. It's absolutely no question. I know I'll get 10 pounds back.

And when I get it back, I'm going to use it for someone. I'm going to help somebody with it. And I know, no question, if I keep that up, I will reach my own paradise.

And then I'll be able to help even more people. It always has to be this undercurrent of that's why you're doing it. It always has to be the undercurrent.

Then the magic works. It's like what do you call it? Alchemy.

It's very much like alchemy. This whole thing is like alchemy. If you know how it works, then everything happens.

There has to be this quicksilver ingredient called wanting to do it for other people. Does that mean you can't enjoy it? Does that mean you have to sacrifice all your money and live like a beggar to help other people?

It doesn't work like that. It doesn't work like that. You can't run away from the luxuries that will follow you.

You should see the places I stay in. No, you wouldn't believe it. You just wouldn't believe it.

I don't have a penny. I really don't have a penny. You should see how I live.

You know what I mean? It's just... It comes.

And I keep giving them away. Seriously, constantly. Every day.

And then it just keeps coming. And it's fun. And you won't...

This idea that you have to be poor and miserable... The idea that when you give everything away you'll be poor and miserable is a fallacy. It's not true.

The more you give away, you'll be dealing with millions of dollars. People will be giving you houses. It happens all the time.

It's amazing. And then you take that house and you go make a study center out of it and you give it away back to somebody and you leave. And then there's two houses in the next place.

You see, it works like that. It's really amazing. You're not depriving yourself by becoming an angel.

Okay? Alright. Take a break.

Alright, let's start again. This will be a little quick review. If you think about it, there's only two things preventing you from...

And I'm quite baldly stated. There's only two things keeping you from meeting angels. And it's amazing and it's wonderful and it's not some new age stupid thing.

You can do it and it's fun to do it and you should try. Only two things preventing you. One is your new bad imprints.

And if you keep the book you won't have many. You see what I mean? If you keep that regimen of every two hours you check what you're doing.

Then for the future you're set. You see what I mean? Everything's alright for the future.

By the way, those of you who weren't here the other day, does everybody understand how the six parts work? The six boxes? Is that alright?

About the plus, minus and to do. Every two hours. Anybody have a question about it?

[Говорящий 2]
About the sequence of the numbers.

[Говорящий 1]
Yeah. There's two ways of doing it. Some people just go straight through the numbers.

So the first day you're doing 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. Two hours apart. The second day you're doing 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12.

The third day you're doing 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18. Okay, do it like that. You just work through it.

Fourth day 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24. Fifth day? 25, 1, 2, 3, 4.

Okay? 5. Okay.

You just start over again. You'll always be a little out of sequence because there's 25. Okay?

So, it'll be slightly different each day. And keep going through it. Now somebody says to me, I was out in the countryside at the 12, what do you call them?

Bents. All weekend. I didn't have a chance to say anything to anybody.

And now I have four speech ones coming up, you know. Speak kindly. No idle talk.

I wasn't even talking the whole day. What am I supposed to write? You can write something from last week.

Okay? You can write something mental. Useless talk to yourself, say.

And there's this thing called free association. Okay? Free association means something close.

Anything close. Alright? And try that.

The idea is this. We call it the concentric circle theory of keeping your vows, keeping your ethics. Okay?

It looks like this. In here is killing a person. Okay?

Which is really bad. Okay? Over here, which is really the same thing, is killing a fetus.

Okay? Abortion. Okay?

Over here is hitting another person. Over here is touching another person while you're angry. Over here is you know, getting very angry.

Angry enough to hit someone. Over here is getting upset. Over here is getting off balance.

Do you see what I mean? Now, the goal is you never break this part of the circle. The goal is that...

You see, this is called the concentric circle theory of keeping your vows. Okay? If you never get upset, you'll never get angry.

If you never get angry, you'll never touch somebody out of anger. If you never touch somebody out of anger, you'll never hit somebody out of anger. If you never hit somebody out of anger, you'll never kill somebody.

And the idea is to stay out in the outer circles.

[Говорящий 2]
Okay?

[Говорящий 1]
And that's the idea. If you can't find something to write about having killed a human being, well, did you hit anybody? Nope.

Did you touch anybody out of anger? Nope. Did you get angry at anybody?

Yes. Then write that. You see what I mean?

Where? In the killing box. In the box about not respecting life.

Alright? This is the theory. And this applies to all of them.

You see what I mean? Find something close. And let your mind go.

You know, let your mind think, and find something specific. If you never break the outside circle, you'll never actually do this one. You see what I mean?

That's a nice thing. When you can't find something that you've done in the middle circle, work out. Find out if there's anything you've done that's even related to getting ready.

How does it go? ... ...

... ... ...

... ... It's like this, you see?

When the monks and nuns get together twice a month to confess our bad deeds, it's like, I've done this. Or maybe I got ready to do this. Or maybe I got prepared to get ready to do this.

Or maybe I was thinking about getting prepared to get ready to do this. You see what I mean? Or maybe I came close to thinking about getting ready to be prepared to do this.

You see what I mean? And you have to think like that. Go backwards like that.

If you never got angry, you'd never kill anybody out of anger. You see what I mean? I'm just saying, some people come up to me and say, I didn't kill anything today.

And I say, well, but did you think about killing anything? And they say, no. I say, well, did you get angry today?

They say, yeah. Then write that. Because it could lead you one day to killing something.

That's all. Go backwards in the process until you find something. And then write that.

Never leave a blank and say, you know, I didn't do any idle gossip today. Yeah, but did you do some yesterday? No.

Did you think about doing some? No. Did you turn on the TV three days ago and waste two hours?

Oh, that I did. You see what I mean? Because that leads up to gossip.

You see what I mean? Like that. Alright.

How to get rid of your old bad imprints? Okay? Many people ask me.

Alright. Now, where does this teaching come from? There's a thing called Chishi Tenpei Do.

This is an ancient, ancient sutra. Two and a half thousand years ago, some enlightened person, angel, came to this planet, said, okay, here's four ways to remove... No chocolate there.

Okay. There are four steps to removing old bad imprints. Okay?

By the way, what kind of old bad imprints do you have? A. There's all the ones you know about.

B. There's all the ones you don't know about. Okay?

Alright? And we say that the soul is older than this life. Okay?

And the soul has been around longer than that. And there are imprints in there, which have been carried into this life. And you don't necessarily know what they are.

And they can come back to you at any time. You know, so... You have to go out after both of them.

Alright? Something interesting here. If you understand the thing about imprints, you can reconstruct your past.

From your current condition. You see what I mean? If you have a health problem, serious health problem, you did not respect life in the past.

It's very interesting. If you have a financial problem, you know, if that's your particular problem, you did not respect other people's property in the past. You see what I mean?

If you have a problem with the constancy of your friendships, you know, what I mean is, if you find that your relationships don't last because the person is not honest to you or misleads you or not loyal to you, this comes from adultery or sexual misconduct. You see what I mean? If that's a constant theme in your life, that people are letting you down, it comes from that.

If you find that other people aren't honest with you, other people deceive you a lot in business, for example, it comes from lying. You see, even if you haven't lied recently, okay? These are old imprints in your soul and you have to go after them.

You have to take care of them. Okay? So, you can reconstruct your past.

If you have a problem that many people lie to you, does it mean you've been a liar recently? No. The imprint could be older than that.

Okay? And that's important to recognize. The Bible says, why do the wicked prosper?

You know? And now you make sense. You see what I mean?

They have old imprints for prospering. It's not that their present bad behavior is making them prosper. It's impossible.

You see what I mean? There's an answer for that. You see what I mean?

Why do people who misbehave seem to succeed? It never lasts very long and it comes from old imprints which are being worn out. You see?

So, you can reconstruct your past. You know? Go through the problems you have and then work backwards.

You see what I mean? Now, let's say that you have a problem that people just don't believe you. You know, even when you tell the truth, you're one of the people that nobody listens to.

And nobody thinks you have anything good to say. And nobody ever thinks you're telling the truth. Or often times in your family, people accuse you of lying and you didn't do any lying.

You see what I mean? This comes from lying in the past. So, you have to go after that imprint.

And you have to destroy it. And you can. Or if you had an abortion 20 years ago and you didn't know any better and you were too young and crazy, you can go back and destroy that imprint.

You see what I mean? So, here's how it works. Four steps.

Say ten. Ten. Ten means support or floor or foundation.

And the image here is that you have fallen down and you have to get back up. And you need some solid grounding to get back up. And what you do here is you think about two things, okay?

One, you think about imprints. You think about what can really help you, okay? That's a foundation.

That's the whole foundation. You cannot be good at this whole thing, you cannot meet angels if you don't understand the world view itself. You see?

If you don't understand how these things work, you can't do it. You'll never be good at it. You see?

It's not enough to do what I gave you on that list. You have to understand how it works. At least about the pen, okay?

Very simple. Why do you like the pen? Because you have an imprint in your mind, okay?

Did that imprint come from something bad or good? If you like the pen. It's a good thing.

It came from a good thing. These are the laws that have been taught in religions for thousands and thousands of years. All kinds of different religions.

And because it's true, okay? If you've been good to someone else, you will have a pleasant experience. If you have a pleasant experience, it's because you have been good to someone else, okay?

And never is this law ever broken. Every good experience you ever have comes because you did something kind to someone else. Every bad experience you ever have comes because you hurt someone else.

Period. Like leads to like. It's the thistles and grapestings.

Keep reading that thing in the Bible. That's the best line, okay? Number two.

Next to the golden rule. Okay. The second part of ten, you have to remember why you're doing these things.

You see what I mean? If it's just for yourself, there won't be much strength. This highest reason means every time you do something right, you have to think, I'm doing this as one more step in the process of me becoming a real saint and being able to help other people.

What's the end of that? Where does it lead to? You get this angel's body.

What's the use of that? You have to think like that. If I reach that place, I could appear in many places of the earth at the same time.

I could appear all over Galway at the same time and help people. You have to have that motivation. So, when you are seeking to destroy the power of an old imprint from having an abortion or something, the first thing you have to do is go back to the basis.

Go back to the foundation. What are you trying to do? I'm trying to become an angel.

Why? So I can help other people. You have to go back to the foundation.

This is the foundation. That's the first step in destroying that imprint. Can you totally destroy an imprint for taking a human life?

Scriptures say absolutely so. It's very interesting. Diamond Cutter Sutra, places like that.

Well, what happens to the imprint? It still comes back up. But its power is destroyed.

What happens? You get a headache. Okay?

It's very interesting. It's very interesting. They all say that.

All the scriptures say that. Okay? Very small.

If you didn't do these four things on that abortion imprint, what would happen? Lifetime of bad health. Perhaps an automobile accident.

You know, something like that. So, much better to have the headache. Okay?

And it's not just something that we made up. Okay? This is from the ancient books.

Chishi Tenmei Do, I can show it to you. It's in the Kangyur. It's an ancient canon, you know.

Okay? Number two. Say, Sun Jin.

Sun Jin. Sun Jin. Sun Jin means destroy something.

Okay? It's a word that means to rip something out from the roots. Like when you take a weed and you pull on it, and there's this whack, and the roots come out, and everything is ripped out from the bottom.

That's a Sun Jin. In Tibetan, Sun Jin is sort of a harsh word. It means like to rip, rip it up, you know.

And this this ripping, this is the ripping the power out of the bad imprint, like an abortion imprint, like ripping out its power. Okay? This is called intelligent regret.

Which does not equal, what? Guilt. There's no word in the Tibetan or the Sanskrit languages for guilt.

There's no such word. It doesn't exist. Okay?

What's intelligent regret mean? Once you've been through this—you know, there's a curse on you now. Okay?

You've been through this class. You heard somebody say what I said. Whether you believe it or not, you've heard now about those imprints, okay?

So, you're like stuck now. Like, you'll always be thinking about it. Every time you get sick, you'll say, what if it was...

Okay? You know, whether you decide not to believe it or not, every time you get sick or you have a car accident, you'll be saying, maybe it was... Okay?

This is the intelligent regret of a well-educated spiritual person. Meaning, I understand that I put an imprint in my mind when I had the abortion. You know?

I understand that it's still there. I understand that it must come back and color my very reality. I understand that nothing about my reality is just accident.

Nothing is just coincidence. Okay? Everything's coming from something before.

And I understand that it will cause me great pain. I understand that. Okay?

Number two has to come from great understanding. And you feel regret. I'll tell you this story in Buddhism.

There's a...the example that the great lamas use for this one is, three guys are in a pub. I don't know where they talk about pubs in Tibet, but I guess they have them. Okay?

Three guys are in a pub. They're sitting there. They're...they sit on the stools at the bar. And the bartender has a whiskey bottle with the spout on it. And he puts out three shot glasses. And he...they says, give us a whiskey. So he pours out three whiskeys from the same bottle. Okay? And then they all pick up their glass and go, cheers!

And they all clink the glass and they all drink it. The whole thing. And then they're sitting there.

And then the first guy goes, and then he suddenly falls off the chair and he's dead. Cold stone. Dead.

And then the second two...the other two are looking at him. And then the second guy goes, and he falls off the stool and he's dead. They realize there's something wrong in the bottle.

Like a big mistake. He's given them the wrong thing. Now how does the third one feel?

Okay? Okay? They say, that kind of knowledge...you see, to know you have something inside you that's about to hurt you bad, is the same feeling. When you get that feeling, you understand it. You see what I mean? It's like, you feel really stupid.

You know? I was fixing my llama's car one day. It's a Volkswagen.

It was an ancient Volkswagen. We improved our karma. Now we have a nice big car.

But...this is in the old days. Okay? And I'm...

And I'm like tightening this thing. I don't know anything about cars, but I have this book, you know? So I'm tightening...apparently Volkswagens don't have any radiator water. They work off...the engine is made of aluminum, so it can... it won't overheat anyway, without water. But I didn't know that, so I'm like twisting and tightening this thing, and then suddenly the whole thing goes...

And everything is destroyed. The whole thing is broken. Just because I did one small mistake.

And in that feeling you have at that moment, you know, like, one small movement has ruined this whole car. You see what I mean? That feeling you have of...

you wish you could take it back. I wish I could take it back. You see what I mean?

That's number two. Number two means I wish I could take it back. You see what I mean?

Because I know I just drank something that's gonna... it's gonna give me a very bad problem in the future. So it's some...is it guilt? You see, no, it's not guilt. Number two should lead you to some kind of action. I think guilt leads you to some kind of inaction.

I think guilt leads you to paralysis. You sit there and you feel, oh, I'm a bad person, I did something wrong, I'm not a good person, I'm a bad person. Like that.

It shouldn't...number two shouldn't be the kind of feeling that you get that freezes you, or makes you incapable of doing something about it. Number two should inspire you to get rid of it. Number three.

Say larn dog. Larn dog. I have some good Christian friends from my early days and they come to me and they say I heard about your four...

they call these the four forces, by the way. I heard about your four forces thing. I said, what did you hear?

They said, oh, you can do anything you want and you can make it go away by the next day. You know? And I said, yeah, something like that.

And they said, that's very convenient, you know? Like, you can do any mischief you want on Saturday night, Sunday morning you do your four things and it's all gone, you know? And I say, yeah, generally that's true, but there's a problem.

Number three. Okay, number three means you stop doing this thing again. Okay, larn dog means you stop doing it again.

And this process of taking away your old bad imprints doesn't work unless number three is there. And number three is the most important one and number three drives it. You see what I mean?

The decision that I will not do this thing again is what wipes out the old imprint. That's the main... If you don't do one, two and four, it's okay.

If you don't do three, it's never going to work. It's very interesting. So, like in the case of abortion, it's easy.

If you say, I will never have an abortion again. I'll never even get close to having an abortion again. Meaning, I'll never just even have the...

go through the process that would lead you to have an abortion. Then you're fine. That's the main thing that destroys the old imprint.

Total decision not to do it again. Very funny. Decision.

Not doing it again. Yeah, not doing it again. The resolution not to do it again.

And then actually not doing it again. It's not just the resolution. It has to be the action of not doing it again.

Okay? Now the great lamas of all history have said, there's a... small thing we have to add here.

Okay? What about the little bad deeds like getting angry at your wife or something? Does number three make sense?

They say, don't agree, you'll never do it again. Okay? Why?

You're just setting yourself up for a new bad imprint. What's that? Lying.

Okay? You know, the small ones, you know, the mental ones. You can't stop.

You can't promise you're never gonna get angry again. Come on. You know what I mean?

You can't promise that. And it's foolish to promise that. I will never again lie in my whole life.

Like maybe you're some extraordinary person who can do that, but most of us are not. Then the lamas say, set a time limit. Set a limit in time.

Okay? Like, I won't get angry at this person for 24 hours. Okay?

Then go lock yourself in the bathroom for 24 hours. Like, that's what I have to do sometimes. No, I mean, you know, we say that for 24 hours you can stay very mindful.

You see what I mean? For 24 hours, if it's important to you, you can keep it. You see what I mean?

Or make it 2 days, or make it 3 days, or make it 1 month, or something like that. But set a reasonable time limit. I always joke with people that it has happened to me that before I got to number 4, I broke number 3.

You see? I say, I won't be jealous of this person for 2 hours. Because jealousy, forget it.

You might as well make it 5 minutes. You see what I mean? And I've actually been jealous again before I went on to number 4.

So you have to set a really short time limit. You have to be very careful about it, okay? Otherwise you collect a new imprint.

But the exercise is important. And then you can build up the time later. Next time you can say 40 minutes.

Next time you can say 2 hours. Okay? This is a skill.

But it's very important the process of getting rid of the old bad things you did doesn't work unless you stop it. Okay? It doesn't work.

You have to make a decision not to do it anymore.

[Говорящий 2]
Okay?

[Говорящий 1]
Last one. Nyenbo? Nyenbo?

Nyenbo means makeup activity. Something you do to make up for what you did. So, for example, if it was an abortion, you could volunteer to work at a hospital for 6 weeks.

Like, on Wednesday nights or something like that. You see, choose something that's the opposite. Choose something that you can do which will make up for that.

It should be something along the same theme. If you've been angry at one person, do you have to go and apologize to them and make up to them? Not necessarily.

Okay? It doesn't have to be directed at the same person. You could go to a...

You could go to another place. If you've been... If you've stolen something, then you go and do some giving to somebody.

Somewhere else is okay. It doesn't have to be the person you stole from. You see what I mean?

Something to make up for it. They say that spiritual study and meditation is a very good Nyenbo. You see what I mean?

Like, for everything. You see what I mean? If you have a problem with anger, then as a...

as a make-up, you could go home and do... You could say, okay, I'll do a meditation for 15 minutes a day for three days to make up for the anger I had at this person. And then you have to dedicate it to that.

You see, you say, I dedicate this three days of meditation, half an hour a day, to that last Wednesday when I got angry at that person. You see what I mean? And you dedicate it to that.

And that takes the power. It takes the power away. And very important to do that.

What's the most holy thing you can study? Guess. Imprints.

Yeah, he held his pen up. Yeah, never forget the pen. You know, if you want to know the number one antidote of all time for all bad deeds, for all bad imprints, think about the pen for ten minutes.

By the way, you can do a meditation on your couch, you can do a meditation at the beach, you can do a meditation on the grass. Go out there for ten minutes and think about this. Where is this coming from?

Why do I like it? Is it just random? Is it just coincidence?

Or is there something else going on here? You see what I mean? Debate with yourself about this thing.

Why do I like things? Why do bad things happen to me? Why do I get sick?

Why does my back hurt? Why do I have to meet this person at work? Ask yourself those questions.

Go out for ten minutes and ask yourself. Is it random? Is it a sadistic higher consciousness?

Or is it cause and effect? You know, you hurt somebody and then you're having to see this thing. You see what I mean?

Think about it. Think about it for ten minutes and dedicate it to the time you got angry last week. You see what I mean?

Think about that. And then the power of the imprint goes away. Okay?

You can change the power of the imprint. That's all I have to say. You cleaned out your future imprints.

You cleaned out your past imprints. If you keep doing it, you will start to have amazing experiences. Okay?

Seriously. All the things that the Bible says are true. All those events you read about with Jesus are true.

It's a very boring way to spend your life, not to try to get there. You see what I mean? You are capable of doing it.

Your mind has the capacity of doing it. So, try it. It's not true that those things used to happen to fishermen in Galilee two thousand years ago and they don't happen anymore.

That's not true. It's absolutely not true. They can happen today.

They can happen to you. And you just have to follow this thing. It's very simple.

Very easy. Last thing, if you did something very heavy like an abortion, we say it's very useful like maybe for a month or two every Sunday, make a small fire. Okay?

Like, you can make it in your home. I use a twinning tea can sometimes. Okay?

Little tiny can. You put in some... Do you know what ghee is?

Ghee is like you take butter and you clarify it. You cook it very gently until it becomes flammable. Okay?

Like, it takes about half an hour. By the way, if you cook it too long, it burns and it doesn't work. And if you don't cook it enough, there's too much water in it and it doesn't work.

It has to be gently boiled. Is it a salty kind of dish? Unsalted.

Okay. And you boil like half a pound of butter or something until it's like this clarified oil. And then you take one spoon and you throw it in the can.

Take a little can like that or you can do it outside in a fireplace. And then you throw in some mustard seed. Okay?

The yellow mustard seed. Okay? And you throw that in and then you light it.

Okay? And then we say, do a meditation on these four. Watch the fire.

It's very, very fun. Do it by yourself if you want or do it with a friend. It doesn't matter.

But it's very, very, very meditative. You sit and watch the fire. I did this in Mongolia.

We did it on the stage. National TV. We showed everybody how to do it.

And we couldn't put the fire out. But anyway, it was going. And you sit there and you look at the fire and you go through these four steps one by one.

Okay? Why am I doing this? I want to become an angel.

I want to meet angels. I don't want to die a normal death, boring, stupid normal life. I want all the things that happened in the New Testament to happen to me.

You know? And then I'm going to help people with it. Okay?

And you're looking. And you don't have to go be a big missionary somewhere. It's not the point.

Within my own world, I want to be a special person who helps everyone. And you're looking at the fire first thing. Okay?

Second thing. I understand that the imprint I put in my mind when I was doing that is going to hurt me. I understand that.

I want to get rid of it. You see what I mean? And that's number two.

Number three. I absolutely, definitely will not do this thing again for three days. At least you can watch yourself for three days.

You know? I won't do that thing again for three days. Decide.

Okay? Number four. I'll do something to make up for it.

Okay? Even if it's only five minutes. I'll go do...

I'll do something good for somebody somewhere and I'll dedicate that energy to getting rid of this imprint. An abortion will take a few weeks or a few months. Okay?

Of some kind of service of respecting life somewhere. Okay? By the way, abortions aren't restricted to women.

Okay? You tend to think that way. The man is...

100% has that karma. If you supported it, if you were behind it, if you contributed to it, you're... 100% have the same imprint that the lady has.

Okay? Then you sit there and you look at the fire and you write the thing you did on a piece of paper. Okay?

Before you start the fire, you write it on a nice piece of paper. Okay? Fold it.

And sit there and go through these four one by one in your mind. Very slow. By the way, one teaspoon of ghee will last you about...

I warn you. I don't know. Half an hour?

20 minutes? But it's very nice. It's very pleasant to sit there, you know, and look at the fire and think about it.

You see? It's a kind of meditation. You look at the fire.

You look in the fire. The seeds are burning. And it has a special smell.

Very holy smell. And you're sitting there and you're watching and you're thinking, Okay, I'm gonna get rid of this imprint. And then you finally, at the end, after about 15-20 minutes, throw in the piece of paper and let it burn.

Yeah?

[Говорящий 2]
Oh yeah, absolutely.

[Говорящий 1]
She said, what if you're working backwards? Like, I have backaches all the time. I must have harmed someone's life.

I must have not respected life. So I'm gonna write that down on the paper. That's fine.

That's fine. Okay? Maybe you don't remember what you did.

You see what I mean? You just have this thing. People don't like you.

You know? You must have done this thing where you were happy about other people's failures. So write that down.

And then it'll change. You know, I can't find a relationship with someone that lasts. I can't find someone who's loyal.

You know, who's committed. Then you must have done some kind of sexual monkey business in the past. Whether you remember it or not.

So write it down. And then throw it in the fire and burn it. You see what I mean?

You can use this for things that you that you know that you must have done in the past, but you can't remember. By the way, and number three, you can still do. You see, suppose you have trouble maintaining a relationship with people.

You know you must have done some kind of bad sex in the past, or something like that. And you haven't done any in the last 20 years or so. You see what I mean?

You, out of all the people, have to be more careful about that. You see what I mean? For you, looking at another person's wife or husband in the wrong way is just as bad as adultery.

You see what I mean? If you have that imprint in you and you're having trouble with that, you have to be more careful with it than other people. You see what I mean?

Do you get what I mean? If you have a health problem and you don't recall ever taking life, still you have to be more careful than other people about respecting life. You have to be more careful about how you drive.

You have to be more careful about things that might hurt other people than normal people. You see what I mean? If you have that particular problem, you have to concentrate on that problem.

Okay? With more, what do you call? In more detail than other people.

Got it? Okay. That's about all.

Just do that, keep it up, it'll be really nice. It helps to hear these things every once in a while. I encourage you to start a group.

I encourage you to study those things. Meditate every morning the way we did it. And then we have home study courses.

You can study them if you like. I think it's good to do them in a group. People all over the world are listening to them.

We don't charge anything if you don't have any money. It's not for that. You see?

It's just if you're interested, you can do it. I think it's good to... This kind of thing doesn't work unless you hear it over and over again.

And it works good if you sit with your friends and you think about it and you talk about it and you talk about the problems you have with it and things like that. So I encourage you to get together. These things matter.

If what I said is true, what's the odds? 10%? 15%?

20%? If what I said is true, then it's something you should follow up on. Then it's very important to follow up on it.

And again, I don't in any way think it has to... It has no bearing on your current religious faith. I think you will find after a year that when you open the Bible and you read something by Jesus, you say, now I understand.

Now I understand what he was talking about. For the first time, I go back, read the Bible, I sneak into churches all the time. Sometimes with my robes on, sometimes not.

I take communion and it's great. It's wonderful. I understand what's going on now.

So you can just use it to enhance or to make sense of what you're doing now. That's great. There's nothing that's beautiful.

You will find that you understand everything much better now. The more you study it, it will become alive for you. I had this thing, I grew up with it, so I didn't understand it or appreciate it.

Then I went away from it and studied something else. And then I came back to it and it made sense and it was alive and it was exciting and I started seeing things happen. That's the whole point.

You can do that. Try that. Thank you.

It's been really really nice in Ireland. Some of us are going to sneak off and stay in Ireland for a few weeks. Hide somewhere.

And it's really really really nice. You have a deep deep deep... You know, when we meditate and I feel the feeling in the room, it's not like anywhere else.

It's very interesting. You have some deep deep thing here and you should appreciate it. You're not like other...

Ireland has, I think, some kind of strong blessing. There is some strong blessing here, so... So appreciate it, okay?

And we really love it here. And I'd like to thank Tom Flynn for bringing us here. He tricked us into coming here.

This is a book that my lama just finished. These are teachings he gave like 12 years ago, 15 years ago. And his lazy students finally published it.

And I'd like to give that to Tom Flynn. Thank him for that. It's about compassion.

Okay, then... Do you have something Miss Cindy? Okay, and thank you for that.

Thank you Kevin, also. By the way, I have a little thing of candy here. It's a custom after teaching, so if you can, afterwards come up and get a piece of candy.

It's like you know... Thank you.

May I just... I'll see what sort of order I have here. I'd just too like to join with Michael in thanking Tom for this.

No, I just do really think it's such a great thing to have you along, Michael. Thank you. Thank you Tom for having me.
