[Speaker 1]
So, remember Alejandro asked me to teach some more difficult classes, and we taught one last weekend, and today we'll do another one. One more person here, one more person here. Needs a paper, today.

[Speaker 2]
Word.

[Speaker 1]
Okay, alright. So, I chose a book by Jetsun Kappa. I think it's his most difficult book maybe, and it's all about emptiness and the six perfections.

So, I finished translating the second chapter. The whole book will be about a thousand pages, and we reached the second part out of six. So, it will take about ...

it'll take about seven or eight years to translate it. We're in the second chapter, which is the second perfection. What's the first perfection?

Giving, sharing with others what you have. Second perfection? Ethical way of life.

[Speaker 2]
Don't hurt other people.

[Speaker 1]
Third one? Yeah, don't get angry. Don't get upset.

Be chill. People argue with you, but you're like, haha, okay.

[Speaker 2]
Okay?

[Speaker 1]
You're in Mexico City traffic. It stops for three hours. This happened to me.

This happened to me.

[Speaker 2]
It stopped for three hours.

[Speaker 1]
Then all the cars ran out of gas. Okay, five minute meditation. Okay, just relax.

What's the fourth perfection? Have fun when you're doing good things. Okay?

Don't be this uptight good people. They exist in Buddhism and they exist in Christianity. Like ...

I don't know. I won't say. Okay.

So, I do have some discretion.

[Speaker 2]
Okay?

[Speaker 1]
What's the next perfection? Number five? Meditation.

[Speaker 2]
Number six?

[Speaker 1]
Yeah, understand that things are coming from you. From the seeds you plant by how you treated people last week. Like, I must have said some nice things to people last week, because Fernando came and played guitar.

[Speaker 2]
So, I must have made some sweet sounds.

[Speaker 1]
Then, he didn't drive here from Guadalajara. He came from my mind, because I said nice things last week. Okay?

Alright. So, we're on the second perfection, but Je Tsongkapa wants to talk about an important idea. So, there are three important ideas this afternoon.

I like ideas. Some people sell drugs, some people sell ideas. The DCI is an idea selling business.

Okay? There are three ideas in this paper. There are three big ideas.

Okay? So, I was in China. China's where you get a lot of good questions, and I was teaching how to find a boyfriend or girlfriend.

How do you plant the seeds for a partner? Then, how do you plant the seeds for a partner? Yeah, help the lonely people.

Okay? The best place to find lonely people ... if you need cerveza, you go to a liquor store.

If you need lonely people, you go to a nursing home. It's full of them, and they are terribly lonely. Horribly.

They are very, very lonely. Then, if you go once a week, just for one hour, you collect a lot of seeds to create a boyfriend or girlfriend. And I can tell you many stories, but we don't have time.

But, I got a good question in China, and they said, this karma seed system, it sounds correct. If I go visit lonely people, and I hear myself talking to them, those words I hear, they touch my mind. And then they make an impression on my mind.

And then that becomes a seed. Then, the word in Sanskrit for seed is karma. So, my own words to the lonely old person makes impression in my mind, and that becomes a karma.

Then next week, it's so easy. I don't have to go to a nightclub, and they're so stinky, all the smoke.

[Speaker 2]
And I don't have to look on the internet for boyfriend.

[Speaker 1]
Sometimes you can get a pretty bad one on the internet. I just go to Starbucks, sit, have a coffee, and you know, enjoy. And that seed will open, and a guy will come in.

And he'll say, can I sit here? And in your mind you can think, you're a little bit late. Okay?

Then that boyfriend is coming from your visit to the nursing home. There was a lady in Europe, I will not tell you the country, because then you might meet her and tell her I said this. But, she's the most famous television lady in her country.

And I met her at this kind of a program. Then she's like, can I talk to you personally? Okay.

Then she's like, I have my television show for 12 years.

[Speaker 2]
I'm the number one famous woman television show in my country, for these 12 years.

[Speaker 1]
But, everybody in the country knows I don't have a boyfriend. And, can I get a boyfriend you know?

[Speaker 2]
How do I plant the seed?

[Speaker 1]
Then I told her. Then something very strange happened. She did what I told her to do.

[Speaker 2]
Very unusual story.

[Speaker 1]
Then it's a beautiful story. She was walking down the street. What's that street called?

Vitoshka Street. She was ... she's pretty fashionable.

She's a TV star.

[Speaker 2]
She was looking in the window at a dress and walking.

[Speaker 1]
And, she hit some guy.

[Speaker 2]
Boom.

[Speaker 1]
Like that, boom. Then, you know, he also like ... And then, he's very wealthy.

And, he has a house in Germany and all this. And, they got married. Then, last year I went there to teach, and I'm looking for her you know?

And, my friend told me she's not coming. I said, what's wrong? She doesn't like me anymore?

She put me on her television show for one hour. I was hoping to be on her show again. Then, I'm looking for her you know?

Then, they said she's not ...

[Speaker 2]
she didn't come.

[Speaker 1]
Why? She's having baby today. Then, everybody's like, whoa.

Okay? But, in China I got a question. If I go to the lonely old lady in the nursing home, in order to plant a partner, it seems like a little bit selfish.

I'm not visiting her because she's lonely. I'm visiting her because I want a partner. Then, in a way, I'm using her.

So, a Chinese person asked me this question. And, it's a very good question. Because, when you go to the nursing home to plant a partner, you are actually planting two seeds.

Your actions, your words, they plant a boy or a girl. But, your intention plants the personality of the boy or the girl.

[Speaker 2]
So, if you go to the nursing home without love, and visit the old lady, will you plant a partner or not?

[Speaker 1]
Yeah, and nothing can stop it. But, what kind of partner? Selfish.

[Speaker 2]
Okay? And, they will use you for sex, for money.

[Speaker 1]
You know.

[Speaker 2]
You know this kind of boy.

[Speaker 1]
Okay? They ... you got a boy, but he just takes things from you.

So, when you plant seeds, you have to be a good seed manager. Okay? When you plant a boyfriend, be sure to plant a seed for love.

Okay? Like, love the old lady.

[Speaker 2]
The action is the same with the body. You went to the nursing home. The words are the same.

You said nice things to her.

[Speaker 1]
But, it has to match the heart.

[Speaker 2]
You have to love her.

[Speaker 1]
Then, the boy that you plant, he will love you. Okay? This is called, you know, like buying a new car with all the features you want.

[Speaker 2]
When you buy a new car, they will ask you what color you want.

[Speaker 1]
What kind of stereo system do you want? Do you want ... can you spend three thousand dollars extra on the butt warmer seats?

You know, they will ask you, what do you want? Okay? And, when you make a boyfriend, girlfriend, then make a list of what you want.

I want loyal to me. So, you have to ... you have to be loyal to the old lady.

I want him to be affectionate. Then you have to hug the old lady. I want him ...

like this, you make a list. And then, each seed you have to plant separately. I was talking to Laura from Buenos Aires yesterday, and it was a really nice conversation.

She told me, Geshe-la, you came to Argentina like three years ago, and you talked about that I have to plant many different seeds for each thing I want. Then, she understood it. She made a $10,000 business into $25 million business.

She got a beautiful partner. Her body changed. She looks really hot now.

She said, Geshe-la, you don't even know, I planted a seed to change my hair also. Sometimes I meet a person like that. They believe in the seeds more than I do.

Then I'm like, how'd you do that? So, this first part of Tsongkapa. Let's start.

Okay. Three big ideas today. ,SBYIN PA'I LONG CHOS BDAG NAS SDONG NGAN NA'ANG, ,SKYE BO TSUL KHRIMS KHANGS PA NYAMS NAS BYUNG, He says, I'm teaching you the second perfection, which is treating other people with integrity.

By the way, I got one complaint today. Somebody is from a woman, and she said some guy touched her without ... she didn't agree, and he touched her a little bit inappropriate.

Then, I don't want that in this group, okay? And I don't want that in this Sangha. So, respect other people, you know, and you don't do things to other people without asking, okay?

And if you do, then I will send you out, okay?

[Speaker 2]
It's not nice, okay? Respect other people.

[Speaker 1]
And don't touch somebody they don't want to be touched, don't touch them, okay? Like in the yoga class, at the end, we always massage your head. And when you teach yoga, before you start massaging people's hands, you can just say, anybody who doesn't want that, put your hands on your chest.

Especially if you're a yoga teacher.

[Speaker 2]
You are touching other people's body.

[Speaker 1]
Then, be respectful. Can I touch you? I want ...

your arm is crooked. And then, the teacher should ask, is it okay if I touch you? But we should have ...

[Speaker 2]
in this group, we should have respect, okay?

[Speaker 1]
Agree? Okay. So, maybe Word can tell me something amazing about how Chandrakirti starts this verse.

Dee-dee-dee-dee-dee-dee-dee-dee-dee. Nick? Huh?

Is there anything unusual about the Tibetan? The first four words? This is exactly how Nagarjuna starts his correlations.

[Speaker 2]
Okay?

[Speaker 1]
Jinpei Longchir Chungyi De. Okay? Like that.

Supe Dangden, Chungyi Ji, Samteng Kyi Shi, Loy Dru, Tsewa Yini Dunkun Dru. Okay? That's the ...

so, he's making a joke, okay? He's making a pun. He lived 500 years after Nagarjuna.

So, he's talking about, what if you practice the first perfection very well? So, you shared your things with other people? I don't like to call it giving.

There's a nice English word, share. Share what you have. Giving means, I have money, and you can have a little.

[Speaker 2]
Okay?

[Speaker 1]
Sharing is like when my brother shares with me, you know? We have like five churros. He will go like this, you know?

[Speaker 2]
One for me, one for you, one for me, one for you, and one for me.

[Speaker 1]
That's sharing, okay?

[Speaker 2]
Almost equal.

[Speaker 1]
Okay? So, some people, different people are able to do different perfections good. Like personally, I don't have a problem with sharing money.

[Speaker 2]
It's easy for me, but I have jealousy problem, you know?

[Speaker 1]
People will come to me, Geshe-la, a great Dharma teacher came to Guadalajara last week. Oh, really? That's great!

Okay. So, suppose a person, they are able to do giving very well, but they cannot keep their integrity. Okay?

Their ethics, they cannot keep them. Then they say power corrupts people, you know? If you get some money, or if you get some position, and we're all the same, all of us.

Me and you, all of us are the same. If one of us is a very good person, you wouldn't have to be born here. So, in this realm, you know, some people 1% better, some people 1% worse, but basically we're all the same.

When you get a little power, me too. When you get a little money, then you start to think like, I don't have to follow all of those rules, you know? Like, you know, I have a Mercedes.

Actually, I don't. Okay, I'm just giving an example. So, I can run through the stop sign.

[Speaker 2]
You know?

[Speaker 1]
Then those lower people, those poor people, they should stop. But I'm different.

[Speaker 2]
I'm special.

[Speaker 1]
I'm rich, and I have some power. I don't have to stop. I'm not stupid.

[Speaker 2]
I don't have to stop at the stop sign. You know?

[Speaker 1]
I look, and I go. So, that's extremely common for people who have a high position, or they have some money.

[Speaker 2]
In the next life, okay? That combination, they are generous, but they break the rules, which are made to protect everybody.

[Speaker 1]
Then what's the ...

[Speaker 2]
what happens next life?

[Speaker 1]
They live in a very bad place, like an animal.

[Speaker 2]
You meet these animals. Labrador? Big, beautiful dog.

[Speaker 1]
Very friendly. And everybody likes to give them food. Understand?

Okay.

[Speaker 2]
He has the best dog food, and the most beautiful coat, but he's a dog.

[Speaker 1]
Okay? Alright? Understand?

This person was generous, but they were unethical. Then usually it doesn't take ... it happens usually before the next life.

And they fall down before they die. They have some serious problems. There are a lot of politicians in jail right now.

Okay? In many countries. And in the other countries, they should be in jail.

But not yet. So, when you get some power, and when you get some money, it's natural to be generous, but it's not natural to be ethical. So, you have to be careful with your different seeds.

[Speaker 2]
When you plant a boyfriend, plant some loyalty. Plant some affection.

[Speaker 1]
Plant some economic security. He has a job. Okay, like that.

Don't just plant the body.

[Speaker 2]
Okay?

[Speaker 1]
Plant his personality also.

[Speaker 2]
Okay?

[Speaker 1]
That's what this section is about. If you are very generous, and you are ethical, okay? So, when you get some power, when you get some money, try to follow the rules better than other people.

[Speaker 2]
I used to work in the diamond business.

[Speaker 1]
It's a dirty business. Then, I was in New York. I got a call.

They say, will you give a talk to the diamond dealers club? These are the super VIPs of the diamond business. Then I was really happy.

And one week before the talk, the director called me. I know, are you ready to give your talk?

[Speaker 2]
Yeah, yeah.

[Speaker 1]
Can I just ask what you're talking about, because I have to do the publicity. I said, I have this great idea. Every businessman in the diamond club should pay extra taxes.

Then there's a long silence. Then he's like, he said, what do you mean extra taxes? Then I said, think about it.

[Speaker 2]
When we pay tax, you know, if we give money to one person, we can get good karma.

[Speaker 1]
And if we give to two people, we get double. But in Guadalajara, how many people? One and a half million something?

[Speaker 2]
Five million.

[Speaker 1]
Five million?

[Speaker 2]
So, there's five million people in Guadalajara.

[Speaker 1]
Even if I decide to give money to each one, I don't have time to go to each door and give money. But I can hire the government to do it for me. It's called pay extra tax.

Call the tax department. I would like to pay 10% extra tax. It's okay.

They will say thank you. Then they will buy, they will pay for roads, and if everybody will use the road, you get five million people's karma. They cancelled the talk.

I never gave this talk. So, really, if you understand karma, then you will take a chance to pay extra tax.

[Speaker 2]
Then you are ethical, and you are generous. And the karma ...

[Speaker 1]
What's the karma of generous? You've made more money. What's the karma of respect the law?

[Speaker 2]
What's the karma of respect the law?

[Speaker 1]
That's number four. Yeah, happiness.

[Speaker 2]
You feel relaxed all the time.

[Speaker 1]
When you drink a coffee, it makes you mellow, because you put happiness inside the coffee.

[Speaker 2]
When you drink a wine, you feel ...

[Speaker 1]
Okay, like that.

[Speaker 2]
If you are unethical, drink the same coffee, same coffee, same chemical, it will make you nervous and upset.

[Speaker 1]
And the same wine will make you angry.

[Speaker 2]
Some people drink wine, get angry. Some people drink wine, feel happy.

[Speaker 1]
Why? The second kind, they were ethical.

[Speaker 2]
They put the happiness in the wine.

[Speaker 1]
Wine is emptiness. Why?

[Speaker 2]
Coffee is emptiness.

[Speaker 1]
It doesn't make you happy, it doesn't make you unhappy. If you've been honorable with other people, the coffee will make you relaxed, happy. If you have not been honorable, the same coffee, the same chemical will make you nervous and angry.

Okay, we're going to go on ...

[Speaker 2]
Oh, so suppose you are a mother, you have several kids, you have a relationship, you know, and you have to deal with other members of the family, and you have to raise enough money for three people.

[Speaker 1]
You have to learn to manage multiple seed accounts.

[Speaker 2]
You have to learn to manage multiple seed accounts.

[Speaker 1]
There has to be a relationship seed account. There has to be a financial seed account. And there has to be keep the other family members happy account.

An important account for all mothers who have a lot of kids and responsibilities is the making time account. Everything comes from seeds. How you treat other people, including time.

When I was a kid, we used to go to the ... I told you all these stories. To the ...

what do you call? Drive-in movie. You go to the movie, you park your car, there's a speaker on a wire, you put it in your car, and you watch the movie from your car.

So of course, we used to borrow our mother's car, because when I was a teenager, because we don't want to go to the theater, we want to go to the drive-in movie.

[Speaker 2]
Why?

[Speaker 1]
With our girlfriend. Why? Duh.

I remember one night, we are kissing, you know, and very good meditation focus. Then there's this guy is banging on the window, you know, with a flashlight, you know. Roll down the window, you know.

Like, yes sir. He has a guard uniform, you know. He says, what are you doing?

We're watching the movie. The movie ended two hours ago. All the other cars are gone.

Then we're like, we go, wow. And then, I have to close the gate, please leave, you know. Next day you go to dentist, you know.

Then you're like ... Then you're like ... Then you, you know, you get out of the dentist.

Then your friend asks you, how long were you in the dentist?

[Speaker 2]
I think it was about two hours.

[Speaker 1]
No, actually it was about 15 minutes.

[Speaker 2]
Okay? Time can go slower. Time can go faster.

How do you control that?

[Speaker 1]
Because if you're a busy mother, you need to slow down the time.

[Speaker 2]
You need more time.

[Speaker 1]
So, there's four famous steps, you know them. It works for money.

[Speaker 2]
It works for partner. It works for health. It works for your meditation.

Number one, decide what you want. If you don't know these four, you should write them down.

[Speaker 1]
Why do I talk like that? My lama, he hurt his throat in a car accident. Then for 30 years he talked like Star Wars.

There you go.

[Speaker 2]
Four steps. Number one, decide what do you want.

[Speaker 1]
I want more time.

[Speaker 2]
Number two, find another person who wants the same thing.

[Speaker 1]
Yeah, my sister wants the same thing. She has three kids.

[Speaker 2]
Number three, help them. Go to your sister's house. Talk to her and her husband.

[Speaker 1]
Every Thursday for one month, I'm going to watch your kids for you. For three hours. You can drop them off at my house.

I'll watch them for three hours. Then, when I tell people this method of making extra time, oftentimes they will say ... They look at me like this, you know?

Like I'm stupid. Geshe-la, what I asked you was, I need more time.

[Speaker 2]
Geshe-la, what I asked you was, I need more time.

[Speaker 1]
So, if you need more time, you shouldn't give time to your sister. You understand?

[Speaker 2]
I'm like ...

[Speaker 1]
Oh, yeah! Oh, oh, I understand. So, what your suggestion is going to give me less time.

You understand? Okay. Alright?

And you know that, you know, you have to give what you want. So, give some time.

[Speaker 2]
Then your time will slow down.

[Speaker 1]
And you'll be able to manage your children, and your relationship, and your finances, and your ex-husband also. Okay? This is time management.

[Speaker 2]
And it works. Okay? Just try.

Just try. We didn't do step number four.

[Speaker 1]
You all know, step number four we call coffee meditation.

[Speaker 2]
It means believe in the system, and be happy you are trying it.

[Speaker 1]
Because giving other people time to make more time for yourself is a lot of fun. And everybody will love you. Your sister will tell everybody, my sister is awesome.

She gives me three hours every week. We go to a movie, we go to a dinner, every week. Because of my sister.

Okay? So, this system makes you more time, and it makes you more popular. I heard that the kitchen staff is not getting a very big salary.

So, me and Alejandro decided to ask you for some money. We have a goal to raise eight thousand pesos. That's about four hundred fifty dollars, or something like that, I don't know.

[Speaker 2]
Six hundred.

[Speaker 1]
Six hundred dollars.

[Speaker 2]
Around, more or less.

[Speaker 1]
Okay, yeah, okay, six hundred dollars. Anyway, eight thousand pesos. Okay?

So, there's two thousand.

[Speaker 2]
Okay?

[Speaker 1]
I will give the first part. It's a one quarter. Okay?

Then, after the class, you guys give the rest, okay?

[Speaker 2]
She'll collect the money.

[Speaker 1]
Then, after you give it, then tonight when you go home, I just did three steps. I want more successful life for myself. Number one.

And number two, I found someone who needs some money. Number three, I gave them some money.

[Speaker 2]
Those three steps plant a seed.

[Speaker 1]
But, we meet many people who give other people lots of money, and they didn't make any money.

[Speaker 2]
What went wrong? They didn't put water on the seed. How do you put water on the seed?

[Speaker 1]
Be happy you are doing good stuff. Like, when you go home, sit on your couch, you know, oh, today I gave two thousand pesos for the kitchen staff.

[Speaker 2]
This is such a cool way to make money.

[Speaker 1]
I'm going to get so much money. They're also happy. It's so relaxing.

There's no stress to make this money.

[Speaker 2]
That put water on the seed. Okay, so if you're a mother who's very busy, you don't have enough time, help somebody else to give them some time.

[Speaker 1]
But don't forget the step number four. Okay, I'm so smart.

[Speaker 2]
I just make extra time. Okay, if you doubt yourself, oh, that Buddhist teacher told me I should give time if I want more time.

[Speaker 1]
Last week I did it, but I don't think it's going to work either. Then it won't work, okay? So, you have to be happy about it.

Okay? So, that's the first big idea of this part of Je Tsongkapa's book. You have to have different bank accounts for your karmic seeds.

[Speaker 2]
In the case of a business, happy customer account, happy supplier account, happy investor account, happy employee's account, and you need all of them.

[Speaker 1]
Okay? So, make the customer happy. Give them something cool.

Give them something so cool they didn't even realize they want it yet. Okay? Then, supplier.

Make money—make them rich. Okay? Help them.

You know, you're supposed to be supplying me. This stuff is crap, and it's also expensive.

[Speaker 2]
Let me help you.

[Speaker 1]
Then help them to improve their product. Okay? Then the investors.

People ask me, how come you're so successful in your business? I made a goal to make my investors rich.

[Speaker 2]
Okay?

[Speaker 1]
I made hundreds of millions of dollars for my investors. Do they like me? Yes!

They still like me 30 years later. When I go to Israel, that lady puts me in her ... she moves out of her penthouse, she gives it to me.

[Speaker 2]
Okay?

[Speaker 1]
Kol dagal. I'm going up to the penthouse.

[Speaker 2]
Right?

[Speaker 1]
Run? Okay. Kasha.

Okay. Then, fourth one. Make your employees successful.

Don't let them do stupid work over and over. You keep the accounts, okay? For the retreat.

[Speaker 2]
Every year. Over and over.

[Speaker 1]
Don't hurt people like that.

[Speaker 2]
Give them something sexy to do.

[Speaker 1]
Okay? You can do the accounts, and next year you can be the boss, and next year you run the translation, and make fun for them.

[Speaker 2]
Okay?

[Speaker 1]
They don't want to do the same thing every year. They don't want to be bored, you know?

[Speaker 2]
Teach them something new.

[Speaker 1]
So, if you make all these people successful, the karma comes back, and you make hundreds of millions of dollars.

[Speaker 2]
Okay?

[Speaker 1]
Okay, now ... I ...

[Speaker 2]
We do this kind of talk everywhere in the world.

[Speaker 1]
Scott said ...

[Speaker 2]
Historically, we have done 75 cities in the world.

[Speaker 1]
Then, sometimes people ... Buddhists ... you know, like American Buddhists will come up to me.

Geshe-la, you shouldn't teach business. That's it, business is not good. Buddhist people shouldn't do business.

[Speaker 2]
Page three. Je Tsongkapa, who started ...

[Speaker 1]
he was the teacher of the first Dalai Lama, so he's not stupid, and I think maybe he's a good Buddhist. Okay, ready? Here's his commentary.

He took the verse from Chandrakirti, 650 AD. One of the two or three greatest masters of emptiness in history. What did he say?

When you splurge the accumulated capital from which you are earning your interest, you will have nothing more that can bring you wealth later on. So, I want to explain this idea. Okay?

[Speaker 2]
It's called reinvestment. This is the second big idea today.

[Speaker 1]
Karmic reinvestment. Okay? So, if you share with other people your things, and your money, and your time, then of course money will come back to you.

[Speaker 2]
Now we go to Chandrakirti.

[Speaker 1]
Should you waste ... what should you do with the money that comes back?

[Speaker 2]
Reinvest! Share some of that.

[Speaker 1]
Okay?

[Speaker 2]
Then what happens? More comes. Who said that?

Jesus.

[Speaker 1]
Okay? You check the Bible. I can do it right now.

I don't have time.

[Speaker 2]
I'll show you tonight.

[Speaker 1]
I'll do it now just to show off, okay? Yeah, try this one. I'll find it for you later.

Anyway, Jesus said ... if you plant a seed well, you can make ten times more. If you plant it really well, thirty times more.

[Speaker 2]
What's it mean? Help other people.

[Speaker 1]
When the money comes back, you can use, I don't know, 75% of it. You can use it. Buy the things you want.

Have a comfortable little house where you can meditate quietly. Have a dependable small car.

[Speaker 2]
But don't forget to reinvest some of the money to help other people.

[Speaker 1]
He says, Chandrakirti says, don't splurge the accumulated capital. He uses financial language. Okay?

Because you're going to make interest on that. What bank do you put the money in to make interest? Buddhist bank.

Where's the Buddhist bank? It's called the bank of other people. You know?

When I was in the diamond business, every year I give half of my income to some charity project.

[Speaker 2]
Then the CFO came to me.

[Speaker 1]
He said, Geshe Michael, you know, just respectfully, I know you're not going to be able to work forever. You should have some retirement money. I really respect you are giving away so much money, but you know, when you get old you won't have any money.

You should invest a little bit of your money. I am investing my money. Banks can fail.

Stocks can fail. Real estate can fail. But if you give the money to other people, that will always stay.

[Speaker 2]
And the karma will come back to you.

[Speaker 1]
Super safe investment, 100% return, no risk. And you'll be comfortable in your old age. So, don't be afraid.

[Speaker 2]
Share.

[Speaker 1]
And money will come back.

[Speaker 2]
When it comes back, share it again.

[Speaker 1]
Last question on the second idea. How do you do that with the boyfriend karma? Hmm?

Yeah, okay. I'll give an example. So, I taught this lady how to find a husband.

And it worked. And she invited me to the wedding.

[Speaker 2]
I like weddings.

[Speaker 1]
Somebody said, Geshe-la, why do you waste time during the retreat on a wedding? You want the serious answer or the not serious answer? Well, not serious answer is, I like wedding cake.

Serious answer is, in Buddhism, the relationship between partners, it's very important for your spiritual life. So, it's good to have a wedding once in a while. Okay, so, I went to the wedding.

I did all the rituals, ceremony. And then, after the wedding, I got what I wanted.

[Speaker 2]
Cake.

[Speaker 1]
And I was eating my cake. I try to go to different rooms when I eat the cake. Then people don't think I'm a pig.

So, I'll eat one piece in that room, and then I'll get another piece of eating in that room, and I get another piece. So, the third room, the new man and wife are sitting on the couch.

[Speaker 2]
We are eating cake, you know.

[Speaker 1]
how old is your old lady?

[Speaker 2]
To the girl, you know.

[Speaker 1]
And then she said, she's like, excuse me?

[Speaker 2]
And I'm like, how is your old lady?

[Speaker 1]
Well, I know what she's going to say. She's afraid to tell me she's not visiting the old lady anymore because she got the husband. Geshe-la, when you have a wedding, you know, there's a lot of things to do.

[Speaker 2]
Invitations, wedding dress, and the cake you are eating.

[Speaker 1]
Then I didn't have time. You know, I didn't have time to to take care of the old lady.

[Speaker 2]
Then I said, let's be honest. You got your boyfriend. You got your husband.

[Speaker 1]
Deep down inside you say, now I can dump the old lady.

[Speaker 2]
I will save two hours a week.

[Speaker 1]
But, then I said, you are not reinvesting. You see? Visiting the old lady, you planted seeds.

Every minute you spend with the new husband costs your debit card 3,600 seeds. Everybody trying to figure out why 50% of Americans get divorced. You want a worse statistic than that?

6 out of 10 of the other 50% want to get divorced, but they can't. Why? What happened?

[Speaker 2]
They ran out of seeds. Seeds wore out.

[Speaker 1]
When the tree grows, the seed dies. The tree kills the seed. Meeting the new boy kills the seed.

[Speaker 2]
So, how can you fix that? Tsongkapa says, reinvest. Okay?

[Speaker 1]
Go to the nursing home with your husband.

[Speaker 2]
Make new seeds.

[Speaker 1]
Then that relationship gets sweeter and sweeter every year. You can be 62, almost 63 years old, and your relation is hot, okay? Like, better than 16.

[Speaker 2]
46 years later. Okay? It's possible.

There are people like that. Okay.

[Speaker 1]
Alright, last thing. And then I asked Fernando if he would please play some more songs. So, I do one more thing.

Then, I'm happy to say Fernando's going to play some real songs for us. You got our songs, now you're going to have real songs, okay? The third idea for this class.

Towards the end of this reading, Tsongkapa quotes Buddha, and in the quotation the Buddha said, previous deeds come back in two different ways. Your karma will grow in two different ways. Then, you know, I'm curious about old Buddhist books.

So, I tried to find where Buddha said your karma opens in two ways. And I found it in three different sutras. So, I want to teach it to you.

We're going to talk about the ten good deeds of a Buddhist. It's very similar to the ten commandments of the Old Testament. Okay?

And what are two things that come out of each one? Number one, if you don't respect life, what's a good way to not respect life? What's a good way to kill somebody?

Yeah, nobody in this room is going to, you know, stab a person, but probably most of us have texted while we're driving. I don't know about Mexico, but in America now more people die from texting than alcohol in a car. Another way you can hurt other people is share bad food with them.

Here, here's a chocolate bar.

[Speaker 2]
Here's a churro.

[Speaker 1]
Here's a churro.

[Speaker 2]
I mean, once in a while it's okay.

[Speaker 1]
But if ... people are very influenced by their friends, then if you feed your friends bad, bad food, like alcohol, meat, cookies, candy, then they will get a habit to eat bad things. So, then you are hurting them.

Okay, so what are the two karmas that come from that? Buddha said your life will be short, and you will get sick a lot.

[Speaker 2]
Okay, that's the first one.

[Speaker 1]
What's the second good deed for Buddhists? Respect other people's things.

[Speaker 2]
Don't steal things from other people.

[Speaker 1]
Then, what will happen if you steal things?

[Speaker 2]
Like taxes. Okay, two things.

[Speaker 1]
Number one, you will never have enough money. Number two, this is interesting, you won't be able to own things by yourself. Like, I know a lot of rich people, but many of them don't have control over the money that the family has.

[Speaker 2]
It's not really their money, it's the family's money.

[Speaker 1]
The family has a Maserati car, but if they want to use it, they have to ask the other family member. That's not financial independence. You ask a teenager, do you have a car?

Can we go out? Do you have a car? Me too, when I was a ...

In Arizona you can drive when you're 15 years old.

[Speaker 2]
Didn't my friend say, you got a car?

[Speaker 1]
Of course I have a car. You want to ... can we go out with you?

Can you drive? We'll go to the movies next week? Yeah, but I have to ask my mother.

Why? It's a family car, you know? It's not my car.

So, the second result of stealing is that you don't really own things yourself. Like, you have a successful business, but, you know, you cannot really spend the money because you have to ask your business partner. So that karma comes from taking things from other people without asking.

Third one, if you mess around with other people's partners ... Okay, let's clarify. If two people are dating, but they're not married and they don't consider each other their only partner, is it okay to ask one of them on a date?

Yeah, it's okay. If both partners understand, we can have other dates. Is it okay to ask the other person's partner out if they made a commitment to each other, but they're not married?

Is it good karma? It's a bad karma, okay?

[Speaker 2]
They made a commitment.

[Speaker 1]
They both believe that the other one is not dating other people.

[Speaker 2]
And they both agreed, okay?

[Speaker 1]
But they're not married. Still, you break your ethics if you ask one of them on a date. Okay?

If two people are married and they made a lifetime commitment in the wedding ceremony, can you ask one of them on a date? Duh. Okay, duh.

No. Okay. Alright, we're clear, right?

What if you do?

[Speaker 2]
Two karmas. When you steal that person from their partner, they will hurt you later.

[Speaker 1]
They will cheat on you later. Okay, so don't ... What do they call it?

Don't be fool. Don't be stupid. Duh.

If you steal someone's partner, of course someone's going to steal that one from you. That's karma. Second result.

You will be surrounded by people who are rude and cruel. Okay, what's rude?

[Speaker 2]
What's rude?

[Speaker 1]
Okay, he said ... he said things that are not nice to people. Okay, like ...

I don't know. You look really ugly this morning. You know, like that, rude people.

People push you on the bus or ... subway.

[Speaker 2]
Subway.

[Speaker 1]
People cut in front of you in the traffic. It comes from cutting in front of other people's partner. And people will hurt you.

[Speaker 2]
And they won't care.

[Speaker 1]
Why? Because you hurt your partner and you didn't care. Okay?

Okay, easy. Anybody can understand. Okay, fourth ...

we're going to finish the ten, then we'll have a music ... small music concert.

[Speaker 2]
Lying ... two results.

[Speaker 1]
Other people criticize you all the time. And of course other people lie to you. I went to the store with my Dharma sister.

But, we walked in the store at different times. Like, one minute apart.

[Speaker 2]
It was a small store in New York.

[Speaker 1]
And ... we both want to buy a piece of cheese. Then I ...

I went there, the guy cut it, the guy weighed it, and he charged me like three dollars. She came in one minute later.

[Speaker 2]
He cut the same amount. He charged her six dollars.

[Speaker 1]
Okay?

[Speaker 2]
People will cheat you ... if you cheat other people.

[Speaker 1]
Uh, number five? What's number five? Uh, split up other people.

Oh, Alejandro, you know ... Paul really likes you. You know, except for that little thing she told me yesterday, but you don't have to worry about it.

[Speaker 2]
Yeah.

[Speaker 1]
Then, they used to be friends. Then you put the seed for doubt in his mind. And that's a splitting up people.

So, you have to be careful not to say things that maybe split up people. If you do, you will see a lot of ... disharmony between your friends.

And in general, all the people around you will be kind of mean. Okay? Next one.

Uh, number six. What's number six? You say ...

harsh words to people. You know, like, I can't believe you didn't do this yesterday. You're just so stupid.

And, uh, the two results from that, you will have to— all your friends will say unpleasant things to each other, and you have to watch it all the time. Or you see people arguing around you. A lot of people come to me and say, Geshe-la, people in my family are fighting with each other all the time.

And it stresses me out. Like, they're not arguing with me, but they're arguing with each other, and it's unpleasant for me. In America now, it will be Christmas in, what, another ten days or something?

A lot of my friends are nervous. Then I'm like, what's wrong? Why are you so nervous?

I have to meet all my family on Christmas. Then like, why are you nervous? It's supposed to be pleasant to all the family come together, have dinner together, you know?

No, Geshe-la, you don't understand. In my family, when people get together, they start to fight. When Christmas is over, I feel so happy.

It's supposed to be the season of happiness. Then, if you don't like family fighting around you, don't say mean things to other people, and they will change next Christmas. Okay, what's number seven?

It's blah-blah, you can say blah-blah, you know? Oh, Geshe-la, did you hear I saw a CNN? You know, blah blah blah blah, blah blah blah blah, blah blah blah blah, blah blah blah.

Really interesting. Yeah, really good. Oh, it's unbelievable!

Ehm, ehm, ehm, ehm, ehm, ehm, yeh, yeh. Then ... I'll give you a proposal, you know?

Spend one hour on the Internet.

[Speaker 2]
read all of CNN for one hour.

[Speaker 1]
Then, uh, text me.

[Speaker 2]
Geshe-la, I watched CNN for one hour.

[Speaker 1]
After three days I will text you back. Tell me what you saw on CNN. You won't be able to remember anything.

[Speaker 2]
Okay?

[Speaker 1]
It's like a complete waste of time. Okay? So, what happens if you waste your time like that?

[Speaker 2]
Two things.

[Speaker 1]
Number one, nobody will respect what you say.

[Speaker 2]
Okay?

[Speaker 1]
I have a suggestion. Yeah, we don't care. Go tell it to the tree, you know?

Or, uh, you don't have confidence. Which perfection is related to leadership? Yeah, what is it?

[Speaker 2]
Have fun doing good things. Okay?

[Speaker 1]
So, if you want to play during your meditations, you can ask yourself some questions. Why does having fun when I do good things make people respect me as a leader? And how is that connected to wasting my time watching CNN?

Okay? Buddhas see connections that we don't see, and the connections that we don't see are very good places to meditate. Why does having fun make people respect me as a leader?

Why does wasting time talking about CNN make me lose my courage as a leader?

[Speaker 2]
You have to think about it. My lama taught us for 30 years.

[Speaker 1]
We are Americans. He's Tibetan. Americans' nature is to be impolite.

You know, Tibetans' nature is the teacher's always correct. Then we will say, Rinpoche! Why, if I have fun, people respect me as a leader?

Why did Buddha say that?

[Speaker 2]
He always has the same answer. Cook it. I'm going to bed.

Cook it.

[Speaker 1]
He won't give you the answer. He wants you to figure it out by yourself. You just go like ...

[Speaker 2]
Cook it.

[Speaker 1]
It means think about it. You'll figure it out. Okay, last three, and then we're finished.

[Speaker 2]
Okay? I'm sorry I didn't give you a rest to go to the bathroom, but I don't care.

[Speaker 1]
Unless I have to go pee pee. Okay, number eight. You feel unhappy when good things happen to other people.

[Speaker 2]
Two results.

[Speaker 1]
Number one, you know, like I want a new iPhone. I want an iPhone ... I had an iPhone 5, but then I got rid of it because I want an iPhone 6.

Then Apple came out with an iPhone 6s. Then of course I got one, you know. I got a 6s.

[Speaker 2]
All my friends know I have a 6s.

[Speaker 1]
You know, I don't really like this phone that much. I paid $800 extra, but there's nothing new on the 6s. I think the S in 6s means stupid.

You pay $800 extra for one or two extra buttons, you know? And you don't even use them. So, what was the karma?

Why did you have this karma? You were unhappy when other people got some success.

[Speaker 2]
Then the things you get, they don't make you happy.

[Speaker 1]
You feel dissatisfied. Okay, if you are a psychologist and you learn these 20 things, I think it helps a lot. We have two psychologists ...

a doctor and a psychologist are going to China in January. They studied all this thing. They are treating ...

they are going to the largest psychology hospital in China, I think. Mr. Mu's Hospital in Guangzhou. They treat more people with drug problems than any other hospital in China.

So, I think it's interesting to to learn this, okay? Then, the second karma of being unhappy that other people are successful, is that you will have an unbelievable desire, okay? You always want more things.

There's two ways to be rich. Number one, make a lot of money. Number two, learn to live simply.

I don't need ... personally, my house expense is about $500 a year, okay?

[Speaker 2]
So, I design my life to be cheap.

[Speaker 1]
The electricity is solar. The garden water comes from the roof into a tank. And, and I live in a cheap place and there's no taxes because there's no schools.

So, these are the two ways to get rich. Make a lot of money, or learn to live simply.

[Speaker 2]
Which one is better?

[Speaker 1]
I like it. Okay Hasso, you get the award. You get the gold churro award.

[Speaker 2]
You know, some Buddhist people say, just live simply. Don't have any money. Some people say, get lots of money, then you don't have to live simply.

I think both is cool, okay?

[Speaker 1]
Make a lot of money, and don't need it. Then what can you do? You can help other people, okay?

To me, that's perfect life. Big income, and no expense. And then you can share with other people, okay?

Then more money comes, because of Chandrakirti's reinvestment program. Okay, number nine. The opposite of number eight is when you hear somebody had a problem, you feel some satisfaction.

Especially if it's your ex-husband or ex-wife, or ex-girlfriend who hurt you. Then you get some news, you know?

[Speaker 2]
So he says, oh you know, I heard your ex-wife had a problem, you know?

[Speaker 1]
I'm so sorry to hear that. What happened? Give me all the details, you know?

Then we all ... all of us have this, okay? I'm good at teaching it, because I'm good at feeling it.

Okay, we all have this. So, there's two results. If you're happy when other people have problems.

Number one, when you need help, and you ask people for help, they don't give it to you. Number two, it becomes a habit to hurt other people. Okay, last one, then we'll have some music.

Maybe someone can ask Fernando to come.

[Speaker 2]
I know.

[Speaker 1]
Okay, last one. Is this pen coming from factory, or is this pen coming from you? It comes from me.

If you don't understand that, then you will misunderstand more and more and more things.

[Speaker 2]
Okay?

[Speaker 1]
And secondly, you will become a person who cheats many other people.

[Speaker 2]
Buddha said ... Buddha said there's a connection. If you don't understand the pen, how it's coming from you, the karma of that, is that you will cheat other people.

[Speaker 1]
So, some of the connections which Buddha taught, they are clear. If you share money, you will get rich. But this one's not clear.

Okay, if I don't understand the pen, then I become a worse person?

[Speaker 2]
I start cheating people?

[Speaker 1]
What's the connection? What will my Lama say?

[Speaker 2]
Cook it!

[Speaker 1]
Okay? Go home, think about it. Okay?

How much? How much? Okay, we'll stop there.

[Speaker 2]
Oh. Cook it!

[Speaker 1]
Go ahead, go ahead.

[Speaker 2]
I like it when people ask me that. The first result of hard speech, people around you will say unpleasant things to each other.

[Speaker 1]
Also, they will fight with each other. Any other questions? Okay, good.

One person was listening. Aldo? Second one, or first?

Yeah, first result of number ten? One wrong idea tends to multiply. Like, I don't believe the pen is coming from me.

And I also don't believe that all the money in my life came from sharing. I don't believe it. You see, you start to multiply your bad ideas.

Okay? Alright, let's do a prayer. That's a great book.

I'll keep teaching it to you if you keep being interested.

[Speaker 2]
Okay?

[Speaker 1]
So, I make a commitment for March. I will finish the next chapter.

[Speaker 2]
What's the next chapter?

[Speaker 1]
Yeah, how to not get angry.

[Speaker 2]
Yeah. We'll do that one.

[Speaker 1]
And I'll find two sexy classes in that chapter for you.
