Buddha Gone Begging, Am I Living a Simple and Healthy Lifestyle?

[Speaker 1]
Kamalashila makes a big deal that the sutra begins with Lord Buddha going to people's houses and begging for his food. And he never eats more than he can fit in a bowl. And he never eats afternoon.

And I did it for 17 years or something. It's very, very healthy. And you feel very good, you know?

You don't need to eat three times a day. Okay? You will get too fat, okay?

Have some juice, you know, have different kinds of juice. We have juice tomorrow during class, right Tim? Thank you, oh Melissa, thank you.

But, you know, have juice until noon or something, okay? Have different kinds of juice and... I have cappuccino, green juice and an orange juice and a watermelon juice, okay.

[Speaker 2]
That's okay, if you can get Adriana to make it. Then have a meal, okay? But you don't need to eat three times a day.

Buddha didn't. Buddhist monks in ancient times were supposed to finish their eating by 12 o'clock. Okay?

And then no eating after that.

[Speaker 1]
And I did it for many, many years. When I was in diamond business, I did it the whole time. And it's nice, okay?

You feel really good, okay? So, Kamalashila says, you know, Buddha doesn't have to eat at all. Buddha doesn't need food.

Buddha's living off of karmic seeds, right? Buddha doesn't have to breathe at all. But he wants to show us that it's a good example to have one big meal a day and then half the day don't eat.

Just have some juices and let your body take a break, okay? Live simple. So, the whole first part of the sutra is Buddha didn't say anything yet.

He's just being simple liver. Okay?
