[Speaker 2] Kids, let's give it some time already. [Speaker 1] It's got to go to space. It's got to come back. You know that? Do you know that it's a Louis C.K. thing? Yeah, get the fucking thing out of space and come back. [Speaker 2] Hm. Say again? [Speaker 1] I did? Oh, yeah, I did. [Speaker 2] I'm sorry. Wow. [Speaker 1] You look too good to be in the position you're in. [Speaker 2] Inside, it's heavy turmoil. [Speaker 1] How's she doing? How's her cold? How's her cold? [Speaker 2] Her cold isn't better this morning. That's good. Yeah, she woke up with me this morning. [Speaker 1] Lee said that strep is the only thing to worry about. [Speaker 2] Yeah. She was tested for it. [Speaker 1] OK, good. OK. I asked her about it. She said if she's sniffling, it's OK, because she'll just scream and sniffle. I mean, she didn't say that. She wouldn't say that. [Speaker 2] I would say that. She would. She would. So it's one centimeter right now. [Speaker 1] Holy moly. [Speaker 2] She said it's beginning. [Speaker 1] Wow. Wow. I'll pretend I know what that means. Oh, I'm curious. [Speaker 2] You've had that all day long? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, yeah. [Speaker 1] Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Shmoogity dookity. Welcome, Sonny and Endy. You've got to work hard, OK? This guy's class is hard. [Speaker 2] It's true. [Speaker 1] All right, here we go. Progress report. Total text is 50, figure about five English pages per folio face, OK? So call it 250 pages or something. And we've done over half. And we're speeding up. Most people are doing four or five folio faces a term, sometimes six. So give it five more terms. So the translation classes will finish in 2021. Then we have to edit, and then we have to prepare the book. That's a lot of work. To be honest, I think it's going to take a year or eight months or something. OK, well, it'll be about 250 pages, I think. OK, all right, here we go. There was a question about the typeface, if people thought it was too large. So look at that yellow book with the diamond in it and tell me if you think it's too large. For our age, right? The sponsor also likes it because it's longer. [Speaker 2] I think it's still pretty good. [Speaker 1] Let's have a vote tomorrow, OK? Take a look at the book. The size of the letters is larger than a normal English book. But see if it bothers you or not. [Speaker 2] See if it bothers you. Well, I think that Gene is putting together some font samples. [Speaker 1] OK, OK, good. [Speaker 2] And the size is really related to what font he used. OK. So we don't want to know anything about the size. [Speaker 1] Well, you guys put your heads together. And I'm open to whatever you decide, as long as it's what I want. [Speaker 2] You've learned that. [Speaker 1] But give me a proposal. Give me a couple options. Here we go. OK, here we go. OK, he's giving the tsengyin, which means what? Of chiwa. Chiwa. No, just, you see, he split it. He split it. He didn't say gachi. He said chiwa. Yeah, no, it's the link. This is the link. Yeah, remember that tendrel can mean dependent origination, and it can mean the link. So he's giving the link of death. He wants to treat it differently from the link of aging. So he says its cause, the cause of it, meaning the link of death, is that due to karma and negative emotions, your life power, which is a big Abhidharma idea from the second chapter. We'll get to it, OK? Your vital power or something like that. Gac, it stops. And that's the definition of the link of death as a member, nangtsen, of the twelve links, as one of the twelve links. Now there's something wrong with it, even for death. Forget that he split off aging, that's OK. But there's something wrong with the definition. Any ideas? I mean, before we go on, anybody have an idea? I mean, it seems pretty reasonable, right? Ramya? Why Ramya? Oh, its cause. Its cause. From its cause, which is that the— Because he put karma and— Yeah, no, you got it. He's close. I believe you got it. Can an ending be caused? Because endings are unchanging. It's not like you pop back into life once in a while. Let's see where he goes. Let's see where he goes. Please read. la nyon kyi wang kyi sok wang ting kapi pa tre chen yuk den yin pa thao That means you believe it. But is that what you would say to fight with someone? Yeah, yin pa thao. Yeah, you want to be sarcastic, right? Are you telling me— You're not tuning ki lang tsen to yur pei, chi wei, ten reo, yin pei, chi— Yeah, your Tibetan pronunciation is getting quite smooth. So, that's good. He has a good ear. You should be a ukulele player. Too late. OK. So, let's take that ending, OK? Let's take that ending of the life power, the vital power, due to—wang kyi here just means due to. This wang means power. This wang means due to. Due to karma and negative emotions. Are you telling me it's dungyel denpa? Are you telling me it's the first of the four truths? Is it the truth of suffering? Well, why do you say that? Because it's one of the twelve links. So, what do we learn there? If you're a link, yeah, you're the first truth. Every link in the twelve links is the first truth, is the truth of suffering. The whole wheel is the truth of suffering. Everything in the wheel has to be truth of suffering, logically. OK? Nothing good happens in the wheel, except for this class. OK. OK. Yeah, and Ben hit it. Here we go. Dimitri, you can't say it's the truth of suffering because— yinpe che, yeah. So, gapa dima che yinpe che, which means it's an existing thing which was not produced by causes and conditions, meaning it's unchanging. Therefore, it cannot be the truth of pain. OK? Pain cannot be an unchanging thing. OK? Pain comes and goes, right? As you're going to learn now. Pain comes and goes, right? Therefore, it can't be a link because it can't be the truth of suffering. OK? What you described can't be the definition of the link of death. Because if it's a link, it has to be the truth of suffering. And if it's the truth of suffering, it has to be changing. And an ending of something is unchanging. Because if it were changing, the thing would suddenly pop up again at random moments. Yeah. An ending has to be ending. OK? When you say ending, are you saying that chi-wei, chi-wa is ending? No, gokpa. Ah, gokpa. Gak. This word, gak. Yeah, it's gokpa, gakpa. OK. What's kegak? It's to hang somebody. Ke means neck. So, it gives you a nice visual image of gak. Na, it means gak. Gak means, you know, cut off. [Speaker 2] So, the problem is the word gakpa, isn't it? [Speaker 1] Yeah, exactly. Yeah. Now, if you had to rewrite the definition, what are you going to use? Let's see. OK. But don't laugh. [Speaker 2] OK. [Speaker 1] gakwang chod chen kyok kyon gakpa nyu ma ched yinpa How? Good. kyok shi jukpay che shi jukpay che Somebody give me the kyapa. Kyapa lok. Give me the kyapa. Give me the kyapa. For fifty dollars. Kyapa lok. Fifty dollars. Don't mutter. Either raise your hand or don't raise your hand. Give me the kyapa. What's a shidu? Yeah, if something exists, it is? A duje. [Speaker 2] Yeah, cancel the fifty dollars. [Speaker 1] OK, Xiaoping, cancel. I got to save some money. [Speaker 2] It's gakpa. Good. [Speaker 1] Yeah, but it's too late. [Speaker 2] Yeah. I didn't get it. [Speaker 1] The kyapa, the kyapa lok, if you say kyapa lok, it means, well, tell me the necessity. You know, well, every logical statement has a necessity. If three, then two. If third part, then second part. So if the third part is, shidu means to exist. It's a synonym for yukpa. How are we translating it nowadays in your text? [Speaker 2] Shidu, something which exists. It can be established as existing. [Speaker 1] Yeah, established as existing. So something, yeah, say that and the book is going to sell negative copies. You'll have to give it away. [Speaker 2] You'll have to pay people to take it. [Speaker 1] Yeah, if something exists, then its ending is an unchanging thing. If something exists, then its ending is an unchanging thing. Okay, once it ends, it's unchanging. Because if the ending changed, it would start again. You see what I mean? Got it? The endings have to be, endings cannot, listen, endings cannot vary. They cannot go up and down. Endings are flat line. You know, you can't, because if it varied, it would come back. If it changed from zero, it would be something. You see what I mean? [Speaker 2] So there's something now, not ever. I mean, it's almost like black, right? Ending, it's hard because it's zero. [Speaker 1] The ending of everything is unchanging. So if something ends, it can come back. [Speaker 2] But that's a different thing. So in this case, we can't say changing thing has an end. This must be related to something else. [Speaker 1] You can't define a link of the Wheel of Life as an ending of something, because a wink of the a wink of the Leel of Life must be the Truth of Pain. And the Truth of Pain, it always varies. Okay, and endings don't vary. Because if endings, if you vary from zero, you become something. You see, that's a problem. You can't vary from zero. You can't change from zero. Then you're going to like get half a death or something. [Speaker 2] It is. [Speaker 1] I mean, we're getting there. What he's going to choose in the end, and he's in wrong loop. You know, we're fascinated, right? We're dying to see. Hopefully we'll remember by the time we get there. Okay, here we go. Hang on. Yeah, okay, fine. CHE NAS means if we consider. Here, here, okay? So, if we consider the link of death as one of the twelve links, okay? If we consider death as one of the twelve links, okay? YIN LAG CHEN GYI twelve links. NANG TZAM means member of them. ZHI BA, death. If we consider death... I'm going to change it. If we consider having died. Yeah, right. And it's going to be important. Okay. If we consider having died as one of the links, okay? Oh, sorry. If we consider the link of death to be the ending of the vital power of the body. Okay, just say SHIR ZHAG. [Speaker 2] SHIR ZHAG. [Speaker 1] Sorry, I mean... SHIR ZHAG means let's say that's the case. And let's say that's the case. Let's say that the link of death is the ending of the power of life. Okay? Let's just say. Give me... Let me keep going. He's like, don't cut me off yet. Okay? Let's just say that it was true that the link of death was the ending of the power of life. Then a priority. Given that, let me have that. Then I say there does exist a person who possesses that link. I say it's possible for a person to possess the link of death if and defining that link as the ending of life. Of life having ended. We better say it that way. [Speaker 2] Life having ended. [Speaker 1] Yes. Anyone want to anticipate the problem with that? [Speaker 2] For zero... Yeah, yeah. [Speaker 1] Say it louder. [Speaker 2] You say it louder. [Speaker 1] Yeah. Who has the ending of life? [Speaker 2] I'm going to guess these guys have past and future lives. [Speaker 1] Oh, the baby in the next life has the death? Is dead? [Speaker 2] How could you not say that? [Speaker 1] So they're not alive, right? So they're not born. So they're not in the wheel of life anymore. [Speaker 2] So you don't have past and future lives. [Speaker 1] That's a relief, so I don't have to figure out how to believe in that. Here's the punchline. Go ahead. SHI BA'I GANG ZAG YOD PA'O No, we're being sarcastic. SHI BA'I GANG ZAG YOD PA'O There's the key. GYUR GYUR DAM BYA Wait, I'm going to cut this because I should have cut this. Yeah, SHI BA'I GANG ZAG YOD PA'O Are you telling me there's... [Speaker 2] Is there a dead person? [Speaker 1] Is such a thing exist? Does a dead person exist? No. In Buddhism it's not possible. They're not a person anymore. They're just a bunch of meat. They're gone. The person's gone. There's no such thing as a dead person in Buddhism. Bad people die. Bad people die. Okay, got it? It's kind of interesting. This is your next talk in Indonesia. GYUR GYUR DAM BYA GZHAN GANG ZAG YOD PA'O Are you telling me that there exists dead people? Why? GYUR GYUR DAM BYA DE BA'I PHYIR Because what you just said is correct. According to you, they possess the link of death after their life power has stopped. After their life power has stopped, they possess the link of death, according to you. So, dead people must exist, right? [Speaker 2] That just feels kind of like a non-Buddhist argument. [Speaker 1] Then, if you agree that dead people exist, Yeah, I want you to learn dekho. Yeah, dekho, that very thing. It's rare. It's very rare. Dagako or dekho. But it's the only way to read this sentence. Dekho ko rang yinpata. Dekho ko rang yinpata. You got to parse. Dekho ko rang yinpata. But it's rare. It's very rare. Dekho ko rang yinpata. If you agree that there's dead people, then are you saying he's himself? Is he himself? Yeah, is he himself? So, he must be himself, right? Why? Because he exists. Everything that exists is himself. So, he's himself, right? Meaning he's a person, right? Okay, got it? Right, yeah. Then, the guy says, yeah, he's himself. Yeah. Who else would he be? Then we say, tumi ninte. Okay. Yeah, good. You guys can translate. If you are a person, you got to be a non-dead person. Okay? Because if you're a person, you got to be a person who's alive. Okay? If you're a person, you got to be a person who hasn't died yet. Because if you're a person, you got to be a person who's alive. Because a person who's not alive, is just a bunch of elements. You know. [Speaker 2] Okay, luckily, we are ... [Speaker 1] Here we go. Yay! ... Good. Good, okay. RANG GI LUGS. Now you get our own system. Okay? And everything is clear. Now, in a Western pedagogy ... Pedagogy? In Western educational systems, they just tell you RANG GI LUGS. They don't have this system of questioning before you find out what's true. But the Buddhist pedagogical system is to have 25 fools give their system first, defeat them, and then they give you the correct system. So this is the correct system. But in a Buddhist text, you have to wait to get it. And the exercise of trying to figure out why the first fool is wrong, and why the second fool is wrong, and why the third fool is wrong, helps you understand it better in the future. So, it's an interesting system. I guess they do, but ... Not in this exact way, I think. Yeah. I mean, no, Socratic dialogue. The ancient Greeks did. Socrates did. They studied Socrates in ... where is he? Guangzhou. They studied Socrates. What's the greatest quotation that we had from Socrates? Somebody asked him, should I get married? And he said, you must get married. If it goes well, you'll be happy. If it doesn't go well, you'll become a philosopher. That's the one quotation everybody remember from that class. [Speaker 2] Okay. [Speaker 1] Stanley and me, we're enjoying it. Rangyilungni. Here's our own system. By the way, this is a handful of links that get treated together traditionally. So, we don't really ... we define them as a group. We don't have a separate kachig for 10th link, 11th link, 12th link. When you get to around the 8th link, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th, these five are traditionally treated kind of together because it's so much of a unit. You know, you have two seed enhancers and then you have karma become powerful and that triggers a birth and that creates a death. So, these five are often treated together separately, whereas the other links will be treated one by one. So, anyway. Rangni la sundep. I would have said chepay or something because what's going on here is this is a link which has been sundepad already, which is sutapa, past tense. So, sutapa means past tense. It has already been ... fertilized. Yeah, you could say that. What do we call it? It's been ... Triggered. No, what do you do to a bomb before it goes off? [Speaker 2] Armed. [Speaker 1] It's armed. It's kind of like armed. It hasn't gone off yet, but it's armed. So, it's going to be something like that. We have to find a word. So, the karmic seed has been armed by either one of the karmic seed armors, which is number eight and number nine. So, this is two different links here. Sepa and Limba. Initial desire and ... which in the case of a negative seed is misunderstanding it, which is what we said downstairs. This is where that comes from. In the case of a positive seed, kind of like coffee meditation. But something has ... something has made it ready to go off. Something has armed it. So, either ... the kang rung means what? Either one or both. Good. Either one or both. So, don't forget, kang rung has three options. It can mean by number eight. It can mean by number nine. Or it can mean by number eight and by number nine. And very few translators ever figured that out. Very few. Okay. So, anyway, some one or pair of these two has ... is ... is arming it. Okay. One of the two or pair which is supposed to arm it has armed it. Okay. And that's why I wouldn't have put this comma here. Because it's modifying these two. Okay. One of the two or both of the two which act to arm it, have armed it. Okay. Okay. We're talking about ten that has been armed already. This is ripe karma. This is karma ready to go off. Okay. Don't confuse it with sipe korlo. You know, samsara. Okay. And don't confuse it for its colloquial meaning which is possible or impossible. Yong Sigmare. Is he going to bring mooncakes today? Yong Sigmare. It's not possible. Okay. They forgot them in Shenzhen. Because they don't care about us. Oh, in Sedona. We'll eat them tomorrow then. Okay. We'll stretch the moon holiday till tomorrow. Stretch time. Okay. So, he's defining number ten. Why did he put this lei here? A hundred dollars. [Speaker 2] A hundred dollars. [Speaker 1] But you have to get it exact. A hundred dollars. Ten. Nine. Eight. Seven. [Speaker 2] Six. [Speaker 1] Five. [Speaker 2] Four. [Speaker 1] Three. Two. Because there's another karma in the wheel. Yeah. Okay. So, he's saying karma in the form of ten. These two words, si lei means karma in the form of ten, as opposed to karma in the form of the potter, the pot maker, du che kyi le. Okay. It's a very important lei here. He's trying to say, you all know of course, there's two kinds of karma in the wheel. Two of the links are karma. And I'm talking about the one which has already been armed. No. The karma which is ten. And then the other one would have been called du che kyi le. So, we're very familiar with du che kyi le. But he has invented a word called si pe lei. Okay. Meaning karma in the form of ten. So, you have to translate this sensitively. This means karma in the form of ten, as opposed to karma in the form of two. Yeah. Alright. So, that's the definition. Is that... Oh, I'm sorry. Nupa tu chen. For zero dollars. It has become very potent. It's potent. You know. It's pregnant, right? That's the picture. It's ready to pop. Right, Ning? It ate all that ice cream, which is sepa and lemba. Okay. Pickles. Pickles ice cream. It ate all those strange foods for nine months. That's eight and nine. And now ten is ready. Okay. And maybe tomorrow it'll be eleven. Yay! We're going to have a party, okay? You won't be here. You can call that girl Mooncake. [Speaker 2] Wouldn't that be nice? [Speaker 1] That'd be such a nice name. We should have called the cafe Mooncake. Okay. It is too late. It's five hundred dollars. It cost me five hundred dollars to change peach tree to peach tree. Yeah, it cost me. It cost me five hundred dollars for the lawyer to split the word. This is America. Okay, anyway. There's the definition of link number what? Yeah. It has become very potent and able to produce a five heaps, a set of heaps, which are going to ripen from it in the later... Yangtze means rebirth. Okay? Yangtze. You have to read it together. Yangtze. Say Yangtze. Yangtze River. Just kidding. Okay? Yeah. Okay, so it has become very potent karma. Okay, le. This is karma. If a le has a possessive in front of it, it has to be a noun. Okay? Unless they're talking about the le particle. [Speaker 2] Okay, anyway. Spelling of le. [Speaker 1] Yeah, exactly. Yeah. So, yeah, right. So, it has become extremely important. It has become extremely potent karma, which is able now to produce duk che, a set of heaps, which could be four or five, because in the formless realm it's going to be four heaps, okay? Which are ripening, which are ripening in the next life, right? Yangtze Chima, in the next life. Okay? Yeah, due to the fact that it was armed by either or both of these two, and ... Yeah, which are members of the twelve themselves, and which do, and their job is arming. Okay? It, meaning the ... this rang nyi means si le. Okay? So, which are good at arming it, meaning the ripe karma, the powerful karma, okay? And you can say, I've known scholars like Mr. Smith, who would say, come on, this is all BS, you know, he wasn't into these texts. He said, this is too complicated, you know, but this is precision. If you want to really, if you don't add each word here in the particular order, it's not, it has a it has a weakness. The definition has an assailable weakness. Okay? And that, because of all the kachikmas we had before that, you know, you must put all these words in here, or you're not defining it correctly. You can do a BAM SHES. BAM SHES is a very idiomatic for a ... like a general explanation for a general audience. And you, it's not precise. It has its problems. Yeah, I don't know how you spell it. It's not like bum-bum-bum-bum-bum. S-P-A-M maybe, or S-P-A-M SHES. B-S-H-A-D. And it means a description of a concept for a general audience. And it has, technically, it's faulty. It could be, you could find cracks in it. But, for a general audience, it's okay. Yeah, DCI, exactly. DCI is the art of BAM SHES. Okay, yeah. It should be, if it's in one of our monasteries' texts. I would say it's unassailable, but I don't know. Maybe you could assail something. Yeah, within that school. Oh, Mr. Human Dictionary says S-P-A-M. And there's an alternate spelling S-P-O-M. And he says there's an alternate spelling S-P-O-M. But I never heard of that one. Okay. B-S-H-A-D. Yeah. I don't know where that comes from, S-P-A-M. I don't know. I've never seen it anywhere else. All right. Now, the tradition is, with the links, ever since Vasubandhu, is, which we should translate for fun, it's 130 pages, which is about 800 pages in English. Yeah, I mean, that's how you're going to spend your next 10 years. First he had his physical kids, now he's having his book kids. So, first you have the definition, then you have the divisions, and then you have the typical features. This is traditional. Okay, so we're ready for the divisions of karma number 10. Okay. Ripe karma. Here we go. [Speaker 2] Not your. [Speaker 1] Not your. [Speaker 2] Good. [Speaker 1] Good. If you divide it by its nature, here you can say nature, okay? You don't have to say essence here. Its basic nature can be divided into three. There is sinim. Well, I like to translate it as merit to separate it from gewa. And, you know, that's something that people have done, and it's one of those rare things that I support, just to keep it different from virtue. Oh, yeah, you can say, well, sometimes I just say, I get lazy, I say good deeds and bad deeds. It's up to you. [Speaker 2] It's okay. [Speaker 1] Yeah, I think it's okay. There's probably a discussion somewhere of why sinim is different from gewa, but I don't remember seeing it. Okay, anyway, what's the dirgirpa is vital here? In this context? Acting as it. Acting as it. What? As link number ten. Acting as link number ten. So, don't blow off this dirgirpa. It's very important. Okay? Acting as that link. There's three. That distributes to all three. Okay? Good karma acting as the link. Bad karma acting as the link. And unshifting karma acting as the link. Okay? And what's the difference? Do you remember? I'll tell you. I'll tell you from my memory. In this case, in this context, sinim means good karma that's going to produce pleasure in the desire realm. And sinim mayimba means bad karma that's going to produce pain in the desire realm. And then miyoyinle refers to good karma which is going to create pleasure in the form or formless realm. Yeah. Yeah. It cannot be diverted. It will not divert to another birth or to another type of result. It will always create a form or formless realm of pleasure. Okay. It's called non-diverting karma. Nothing can change it. And then there's big debates about, oh wow, didn't this happen to this guy? Okay. I think we had it already. But you can go back and look at it. By the way, just for all the translators, we are building up a database of footnotes. So, you know, I'm already using it heavily and it speeds up my translation work. Like if I have this discussion of miyowa, I just take it from somebody else's text. You know, I make the footnotes sound like it's mine. And then, you're welcome to do that, okay? Well, you're going to save a huge amount of time. And the same with the bibliographical entries that aren't wrong in that. Some of them are corrupt. Someone should go through and fix them, yeah. There's some corrupt ones in there. But the footnotes are really good. And so, you can just shift it, adjust it. And then remember that the footnotes are normally going to reference some scriptures, which is the unique mixed nuts benefit. We always, when we explain something, we always take it to another scripture. So, when you do that, you're going to have to bibliographize that scripture. Then you're going to have to go find the bibliography and do an editor. And then your text looks more meaty. It looks like it's more stuff. [Speaker 2] Because it is. [Speaker 1] It is, exactly. [Speaker 2] Okay. Okay. [Speaker 1] Now, features. Okay, so, CHOS KYI KHYAD PAR in a list, in a YIGS CHA, means standard features. Is it good karma? Is it bad karma? When do you get rid of it? At GOM LAM or MTHONG LAM. There's a list of features. That standard list of features. Okay. So, CHOS KYI KHYAD PAR here doesn't mean differences in the thing or something like that. It means features. Okay. Here's the CHOS KYI KHYAD PAR. Please read. What's it say? That's true, but what's the TSUNG? And this TSUNG doesn't mean linked. Yeah, totally the same. You know, I'm not going through, is it good karma? Is it bad karma? When do you get rid of it? Go look at the second link. It's the same. Yeah, go look for what I said in the second link. It's the same. Totally the same. TSUNG BA means totally the same. Okay. I'm not going to bother listing them. Go read the second, you know. Okay. You want to do it? Nah. We don't have to. There's no time. Yeah, you could. Because no reader's going to go there either. Yeah, they're going to be lazy. Okay, go. Good. Wait, you've got to read it like this. KSY, GC, GC. There's four. Okay. So I just remembered what this note says. SIPA in general, existence, can, as a concept on its own, TZAM. Meaning not... TZAM means not necessarily as the link, but could be the link. But in general, the word SIPA, or the concept SIPA, can be divided into four. And here it means being. Okay. And it took me so long to understand this. You get everything free. KSY means the being at birth, which is about to happen to Mooncake, Miss Mooncake. The being at birth. And then the being at death. And then the being in the... Pardo. Now this one's tricky. It's called the being of the time before. It's called the being of the time before. But logically, you can figure out what it really means. What's left? We had Pardo already. That's Barsi. We had the person at birth. And we had the person at death. Yeah. Between birth and death. But it has a strange name in Buddhism called from the time before, from the point of view of your next birth. If you're interested. Yeah, you could call your last life the life before. The being before. Who were you before? It's Munduki SIPA. But it's defined as the being between KSY and GC. Okay. And he's going to say that here. Okay. Here we go. Okay, good. It's caused... This is very common language. RANG RGYUD LAS GNYEN. What's it mean? Good, good, exactly. Perfect. A very common expression to modify everything. Due to the power of its particular cause, which happens to be your past karma and your current and past negative emotions. [Speaker 2] RANG DBANG MED PAR It does not have the same power. [Speaker 1] Meaning? Helplessly. You don't want to, but you have to. RANG DBANG There's Tibetan newspapers called RANG DBANG as you can imagine. Freedom. You don't have the choice. It means without choice. [Speaker 2] You don't have any choice. [Speaker 1] It's like Shen Wang. Yeah, exactly. It's very similar to Shen Wang. You make the crossing. NYIN TZAM BYAR And it took me decades to come up with that translation, and I like it. You make the crossing into a YANG SRID. We just had it. YANG SRID Yeah, your rebirth. What's that? Yeah, and by the way, the word CHA, you're going to hate it for the rest of your life. In a definition, it's a B.I. something. It's a bitch. Okay? It's a really bad word. It's a hard, hard, hard word. It's the condition of that. Okay? And then there's huge debates about it. The condition. It means the part, right? But it means the condition. The condition of having to take birth helplessly, without wanting to, due to the power of your past karma and negative emotions, is the definition of the being at birth. So that being doesn't refer necessarily to a person. It's the existence at birth. It's the condition of birth. And there's huge, huge... An author doesn't use it without reason. He wants to avoid kamsa. He's studiously avoiding kamsa. He says the condition of having to take birth is what kesi. It's kesi. Okay? Don't think it's the being at... When I say being at birth, I'm not talking about a person. I'm talking about a condition. And there must be some reason why he has to do that, in his mind. But just be aware, when you hit cha in a definition, it just blows up everything. It's very uncomfortable. Okay? Alright. Here comes another cha. Let's do a one minute cha. Come on. [Speaker 2] ... ... ... [Speaker 1] What's that? The second one, which is cesi. Cesi. No, not the person. Oh! Yeah, the being at death. Being at death. Well, when you say that, you're in trouble. The condition of the ending of the life power without choice. You have no choice. Helplessly. Thrust upon you by your past karma and negative emotions, is the definition of being at birth. Of being at death, sorry. Okay? So, we finished two of the four. What are we talking about these four? What are they called? They're called sipa. They're all called sipa. And it's chir sipa. General? Yeah, I'm just telling you, now I'm not talking about the link anymore. Okay? Chir sipa means, look, and a lot of people have made the mistake throughout history of thinking these four refer to the fourth link, the tenth link. And they don't. They are a general description of sipas. You see? Although they may apply to the tenth link. But, and then the translations, if you're sensitive, they come out really wrong. They're weird. So, how can that be ripe karma? It's a result. You know, it's the condition of having to take birth. What's that got to do with ripe karma? Ripe karma is a power. It's a trigger. It's not a condition. You see what I mean? So, then people, when you read those translations, you get uncomfortable here, and you don't know why. You're not sure why you feel uncomfortable. But it's that they're not defining the link, and they're not talking about the link. They're talking about sipa in general. And he said that, but people don't register it. And then you're like, why is he talking about all this stuff? He's supposed to be talking about karma. You know. Okay, got it? It's a pet peeve of mine in the last 1700 years. I stopped here. 913. 913. Yeah. Friday the 13th. People ask me why 13th unlucky in the West. Jesus had 13 disciples. Number 13 caused him to be killed on a Friday. Yeah. So, Yeah, it was a bad weekend. So, that's why when you ask how many students did Jesus have, they'll say 12. Because they don't want to count this guy. They won't build a 13th floor on a building. There's no 13th floor on an American building. The elevator goes from 12 to 14. Nobody wants to rent the 13th floor. Still. Yeah, today's a pretty, something strange is going to happen today. [Speaker 2] I think something strange is going to happen today. [Speaker 1] It's a full moon, it's a Friday, it's a 13th. [Speaker 2] Amen.
