[Говорящий 1] LO SBYONG LA SON NU LO SBYONG LAS, sorry. Yeah, good? Bueno. LO SBYONG LAS KUN LA DKA' DRIN BYAS PA BSGOM Then he started to quote the LO SBYONG and it says KUN LA DKA' DRIN BYAS PA BSGOM Why don't we meditate on DKA' DRIN? Here's DKA' DRIN It means, the name of one of our nuns in Moscow, I think, Irina's mom, DKA' DRIN BYAS PA BSGOM Try to have a feeling of the kindness of the people around you and a feeling of kindness for them. Two ways street? Kindness both ways. ZHES PA LTAR NGON MTHO'I LUS LONGS SPYOD KHOR PHUN TSUL SOGS PA THAMS CAD GZHAN CHEN GYIS LAS BYUNG STE The existence of higher rebirth, the existence in this universe of the human body comes, if you trace it back, if someone was taking care of somebody else. The existence of human bodies on this planet, which are wonderful vehicles for enlightenment, traces back to somebody took care of somebody else. The fact that you have a body. Whenever you have trouble remembering LO SBYONG, look at your hand. Hey, that's how I got a hand. That's where hands come from. At some point I must have done, I must have done something good. If you don't know this song, you're young and you're culturally deprived from the sound of music, which you also never heard of. Somewhere in my past or childhood I must have done something good. All right, nice song. KHOR PHUN TSUL SOGS PA THAMS CAD GZHAN CHEN GYIS LAS BYUNG STE Okay. Next image, Natanya. Yeah, we have this big theme in the world view organizations about crystalline water that comes from snow mountains. If you've ever been near the Himalayas or even at Diamond Mountain, we do have a spring here. The water that comes from the snow or from the mountains is the sweetest. In Tibet, that's a tradition that the sweetest water comes from the snow mountains. Ultimately you can trace the water, as I said, the four great rivers, the four largest rivers in the world, trace back to the Himalayas. If you follow them upstream, you hit the Himalayas. And what's the Himalayas represent here? Yeah, taking care of other people. And all the sweet water in the world, downstream, all the oceans come from that snow at the top, which is cherishing others. All right, don't forget the picture. GZHAN GYIS SOGS LA BYAS PA GSUNGS NAS SOGS SPYOD MA BYAS PAS Then he says, he goes off on an interesting thing. He says, if you're really cherishing other people, then you are cherishing other people's life because you can't cherish other people who are dead. So when you say I'm cherishing you, what you're really saying is I'm cherishing that you're alive and you're here with us. I cherish that. Which means the last thing you'd want to do is take life. So this thing about feeling how precious it is to have other warm bodies around you should have a secondary result in your heart that you don't want to take the warmth from bodies. Okay? It's so nice to have warm bodies close by of friends and loved ones that the last thing you'd want to do would be to eat that person's fingers and feet and kill the life in them. So the attitude of appreciating the love and the warmth around you, an automatic fallout, is that you become more ethical. You don't want to hurt life because it's so fun and warm. So you wouldn't want to kill that life or take that life. So learning to cherish others immediately pours over into creating good seeds and not creating bad seeds. It kind of pours over. Learning to cherish others leads directly to dependent origination. Got it? Good seed planting. Planting good seeds. SOGS SPYOD PA'ANG PA'I RGYAS BA'I RGYAS BU RNAMS NI DE Then you get the result of taking care of others' life, which is your long life, and then it becomes one of those anti-samsara, upward spiral. You cherish more. You protect more. You have more to cherish. You protect more. You have more to cherish. You have more to protect. DRO BA'I TSUD And from that comes all the TSUDDINGS. Ani Pelman's old dog. Long life. Okay, TSUDDING. I think my teacher gave the dog that name, TSUDDING. Star says, so here's the... Somebody tell me the meaning of this picture. For zero dollars, Daniel. He's quiet on the zero. What? Yeah, the top 10 good deeds list came from cherishing others. The existence of the list. Don't forget that's the theme. That's what we're talking about. That's the point he's trying to drill into us for days now. The existence of the list of the top 10 karmas comes somewhere, sometime, you must have taken care of somebody else. Or that list wouldn't be in your world. That list wouldn't exist in your world. That list is an automatic ticket to heaven. It doesn't exist in some cultures. We talked about 13th century Mongol culture. The goal is to poison your neighbor. The goal is to invite your neighbor to dinner and poison them so you can take their horses and their wife. It's a weird culture, right? By the way, it's not that way now. It's the opposite. The Mongols are quite beautiful and helpful people. But anyway, the list of the 10 good deeds. Let's do it positive way, okay? I'm very into, after many years of studying it, I think it's nice to call it the list of the top 10 good deeds and not the top 10 bad deeds. Because bad deeds and the word morality is very irritating to me. It's like good seeds. Tell me good seeds. First one? For zero dollars. Ten cents. Protecting life. Respecting other people's stuff. Respecting other people's partners. Telling the truth. Yeah, when you talk, the goal of your talk is to bring people together. Hey, wouldn't you like to meet Daniel? He can sponsor your next project. Like that, bring people together. And then speak sweetly. Say nice things to people. Don't say negative things. When you get my age, you have a deep realization, right Joe? It's a waste of time to talk bad about people. And it's a waste of time to think bad things about other people. And you don't live forever. Your minutes are limited. You only get a certain number of minutes in your life. Why waste them on saying bad things about other people? Don't smell a... Fart twice. That's an old Tibetan joke. Oh, Vivian, I think Stanley's farted. Check it out. Like don't, if you smell a fart, say, oh, look, Andriana, it's so nice over there. Get your nose on the other direction. Don't go like, is that where it is? Or where did she go? No, thank you. Like, turn your nose the other way. Like, I'm telling you, your lifetime is limited. A, you save so much time if you don't think about problems and problem people. You save so much time, 50% of your time. You get 50% more time. Don't waste time thinking about stupid people because that makes you stupid. And your brain works, your brain function decreases every single time you think about a stupid person. It's amazing. Every time you're selfish and every time you feel upset, your mental capacity is dropping. And it's weird. I studied Russian for five years at the university. I completely forgot. Completely. Yes, I was there 50 years ago. But now, right away, I speak freely. I don't understand. Like, suddenly my Russian is fluent after 50 years of not thinking about it and being the worst student in the class. And I think it comes from not, from consciously not using up my brain space on stupid people. I just don't think about them. When that stupid person comes to my mind, I'm like, I'll check in with you later. I put them over here. And so, I think, I know worrying about stupid people reduces your mental space. But I also think it has an effect on your intelligence. And if you could clear that, I think you could remember a language that you learned 50 years ago and you weren't any good at it even then. You see what I mean? And it happened to me. And it's cool. It's fun. So, advertisement. All right. I don't know where the Chinese is. It's coming later. ,GZHAN BYAS PA GSUNGS NAS, ,RDZIN PA DANG BA DANG, ,MA BYIN LEN SPANGS PA SOGS KYIS, ,'BYOR BA CHE BA SOGS SKYES, He says here, if you start to enjoy other people and appreciate other people, then you will start to be more generous. And then, here's a picture. She's pumping her perfections. Her six perfections. She's getting stronger in her six perfections because she likes other people. It's very simple. She's not studying Lam Rim and meditating on the next section. She's pumping up her perfections with enjoying other people. So her giving is stronger. Her ethics is stronger. Her patience is stronger. Her joy is stronger. Her meditation is stronger. Her wisdom of emptiness is stronger because she's enjoying other people. She's looking for the best in them and she's appreciating other people and she's letting them know. So it says here, there will be an upward cycle. You'll care about other people. You're more generous. And then money flows in. And I'm trying to tell you, it's weird, super weird. Money just flows in. I'm telling you. My wife's like, whoa, what's going on? I'm like, enjoy it honey. And we can give away stuff every day. And it's fun. It's just really fun. And it comes from just enjoying other people. The more you enjoy other people, the more you share. The more you share, the more stuff piles up outside your door. And I'm not kidding. It's weird. It's supernatural. It's like hundreds of thousands of dollars in weeks. It's weird. I'm trying to tell you. I left Diamond Mountain $30,000 in debt. [Говорящий 2] Okay. [Говорящий 1] I had bills. And if you just keep giving, it creates this weird samsara, and then your main problem is taxes. All right. DOR NA, MANG DU ZHES DAG CI ZHIG DGOS, CI BA RANG GI DON CHE DANG, THUB PA GZHAN GYIS DON TSE PA, DE NYID KYIS NI KHYAD PAR DGOS Then he says, Master Shantideva says, here's a picture by the way. Hello. Yeah. Shantideva says, for goodness sake, please try to notice the difference. Selfish people start to look grumpy. Generous people start to look happy. And are you blind? Didn't you notice the faces of people in the world? People who don't share as they go through life, they start to look more and more tired, more and more grumpy. And then the people who are in the habit of sharing, they just start to look more and more funny and happy. They don't have as many teeth, but they're certainly showing them more. I'm kidding, right? So, my dentist, what a thing to tell me. He says, you know what my goal is, Mike? I said, what? He says, I want you to die with all your teeth in your head. I'm like, thanks. So as you get older, if you keep this habit up of just having fun and taking care of other people, here's the picture again. Shantideva says, didn't you notice the difference between people's faces? Are you blind? You don't think about it? The people who are caring for other people, they look younger, they look fun, they look happy, they have a big smile on their face. They're relaxed. And then the selfish people, the older they get, it's a tragedy. Their face is a tragedy. Their face feels like a tragedy. It just gets more and more... Okay? The best, Sephora. You guys don't even know Sephora. Diamond Mountain and Sephora are like... Sephora's the main makeup store in America, in the world, just so you know. In case somebody mentions it, you know what they're talking about. Don't go in there with your girlfriend. You can't get out for less than $300. Everything's expensive in there. I go in there, I stand near the door, so Veronica thinks I've got to go somewhere. Why am I talking about that? Yeah, you don't need makeup if you have generosity. That will take care of your looks. You'll be happy. You'll have a pleasant face. I think one of the saddest things is a face that's been over plastic surgery. They should have just given money away. All right. LA SPYOD LAS SDOR NA BYAS PA RANG BDUN KHO NA DANG THUGS PA'ANG GZHAN DON PAR ZHIG RDZAS PA YID KHYEN DANG YIN DANG YOD PA RTOGS PA'I MA Again, he quotes Lama Chöpa and he says, look at the faces, compare the faces of people who like to give and people who are only worried about themselves. You don't need an explanation. Just compare their faces. All right. Some people come into this life with a beautiful face. They get to be movie stars and models for a while. And if they don't continue the generosity and the kindness that gave them a beautiful face, they lose it anyway. There's nothing sadder than an aging movie star. They have to start taking roles as bad guys. That's really sad. They used to be the queen of the country or the princess and now they get a role as a mean mafia boss or something. Check it out. ZHES SOGS GSUNGS PA BZHIN BRTZON PA DANG RANG NYID DANG PO'I KHOR BAR BYA This is one of my favorite parts of the Lama. I have certain favorite Lam Rim parts. This is one of them. The picture, Natanya Pajasta, yeah. This is us and Shakyamuni Buddha about 10,000 lifetimes before he became Buddha. Which one became Buddha? [Говорящий 2] No, the other. [Говорящий 1] Anyway, we were the same. That's a big, big Lam Rim teaching. One of us practiced Lam Rim and the other one was lazy. We started out the same, like these two girls. We start, you and Gyel Tama Buddha, Shakyamuni Buddha, not too long ago, you were exactly on the same level. Then you both learned Lam Rim and he worked hard and we didn't. And we're still here and he became Buddha. You see what I mean? There's a big, big tradition in the Lam Rim, which is true, that there was a time when we were all in the same high school class together. Not just Jack. You guys were in the, you were in the same high school as Lord Buddha, definitely, in your past life. He worked hard and we didn't. And here we are. He gets to be Buddha and we have to sit in Lam Rim classes over and over. Okay, ,GZHAN SOGS GZHAN STONG PA, ,RANG NYID DANG POR, In the beginning, ,'KHOR BAR KHYAMS PA DRA, We were both Khyamba-ing. Anybody? I'm tired of giving you money. Khyamba means wandering around like stupidly. We used to be fellow sansara wanderers and then he worked hard and we were lazy. And here we are. ,RANG NYAM YIN YANG, Even though we were wandering around blindly the same, ,THUB PA, Lord Buddha, ,SNGON KHAB ZHIG NAS, At some point, he decided to get rid of his habit of taking care of himself first and we didn't. That's when we separated, divided company? What do you call it? Parted ways. New idiom. That's when we parted ways. He went that way, we went that way. He said, this sucks taking care of yourself all the time and it's so counterproductive. It's the source of all problems. He got it. He identified the enemy eating at your table as your friend. He identified him and got rid of him. And we were like, oh, it's so cool to take care of me first. We didn't get it. ,GZHAN CHEN GZIN, ,RDZUN BA'I RKYEN THAMS CAD ZAD CAN, ,YOD NUS THAMS CAD RDZOGS PAS, ,BRDOD NYID THAR CHEN, BRDOD NYID Here's a debate for you. Here, Lord Buddha is described as the person who has accomplished the goals, the two goals. Lord Buddha is described as a person who has accomplished both goals. What are they? My goals and other beings' goals. But I'm another being. Am I not, Daniel? Did he achieve my goals? No, he didn't. I'm still here. Famous debate at the opening of the Pramanavarttika. ,GZHAN GZHAN NI YOD PA'I RGYUD PA'I LA ,BYA BYED GZHAN ROL TZAM NAS ,DE YID RIM MA YIN YOD GONG NA MA ZHIG THAR BAS CHE Good. That's a sweet, that's a $100 answer. She said he enlightened his projection of me. $100 answer to $0 question. That's impressive. Okay, don't forget to collect from my bank. I mean, that's my banker, that's my treasurer. Okay, all right, Dambar. Yeah, he purified his view. RANG RES KHOR BA THOB MED NAS RANG CAN CAN ZHAG LA BYAS TE SNGAR RANG BDE BA ZHIG DGOS NYAMS DU BRTZON GSUNGS KYANG Picture. This is called admitting you failed. This picture is called time to admit that your life has been a failure. Are you totally happy? No. Can you help all living beings? No. Did you screw up and waste your time? Yes. So it's just time to admit it. Like, I need help. That's a big part of every person who's got, for an example, if you have an addiction or something, it's not until you ask for help that you can get out. You got to ask. So you got to, the big step for an addict is not giving up the substance that addicts them. It's admitting they're an addict. So that's the first step to recovery of any addict. It could be addict to kleshas. But RANG CAN CAN ZHAG LA BYAS TE When you finally admit it didn't work, you're on the road to recovery. MTSON GYANG DA LTA RANG DON NAS GCIG MTSAMS DANG THA MA NGAN SONGS KYI MIN SBRO BA'I THABS SANGS YANG CHEN MA THUB PA TSAMS NAS MA ZAD DA LTA RANG DON YANG KHO NA So the fact that we are helpless and the fact that we can't really help ourselves comes from traces back to me first, taking care of me first. All right. It's time to admit that that policy didn't work. It's time to wake up and say, that system sucks. It just doesn't work. It's time to admit it. All right, RANG RES DE LA GON GROG STE GON GROG is an idiom for you guys and it means we are doing the complete opposite. Okay. Ass backwards, yeah. I wasn't going to curse anymore. It's ass backwards. Instead of cherishing others, we have failed. We have observed that it doesn't work and we have recommitted ourselves to it. It's weird. We keep trying it. We keep seeing it doesn't work and then we try harder to cherish ourselves. It's weird. GON GROG means that. ZHIG NAS BSTAN PA THUG RJE CHEN GYIS BRAL PA GZHAN BYAS YOD NA LTA LTAR RANG GI SDUG BSNGAL KUN ZHIG If we had had the same, if we had made the same decision when he made his decision, we wouldn't be like this. We would be Buddhists already. If we had made the decision to start taking care of anybody else a little bit, we wouldn't be here in a mortal body waiting to die. YOD NA LTA LTAR RANG GI SDUG BSNGAL KUN ZHIG DE BA'I CHOG DANG LDAN LA GZHAN DON YANG KUN TU RDZOGS PA RTZA'I RTZA'O MED DE DE LTAR MA BYUNG BA'I By the way, the answer to that other question was at the beginning of the Pramanavarttika of Dharmakirti is that you have perfected the needs of others when you have perfected your capacity to serve them. I have served, I have perfected, I have perfected the eradication of poverty when I perfect my own generosity. And not when, what? There's no more poor people in the world because that's not my fault. I can't do that. That's not perfection. If perfection is that there's no more poor people in the world, then Lord Buddha failed. You see what I mean? Perfection is perfection of the willingness to give and the perfection of, the physical perfection of the world, no poverty will follow later. So you can perfect your heart and still have poor people in the world. The fact that there's poor people anywhere doesn't mean that Lord Buddha failed in perfectly serving the needs of others. Got it? That's just a Buddhist principle. People's poverty is a result of their own actions. Buddha has perfected the giving and Buddha has eradicated poverty when he's got the perfect ability to teach people how to be generous. And not when they finally make some money. Okay, got it? It's interesting. So he has accomplished both goals, self and others. ,LTAR DANG LDAN SANGS RGYAS SKABS, ,LAS GZHAN DU MYANG PHUN TSOGS PAR THET TZAM MED DE, ,DE LTAR MA CHUNG BA'I, ,LDAN SANGS RGYAS GANG DAG TU BYUNG BA NAS, Okay, the sign that we didn't have his skill in serving others is the fact that we're still here and we still have problems. What's the single most compelling proof that Lord Buddha cannot erase your bad seeds? I say dentists. I got to go to a dentist Tuesday. Yeah, as long as there's a guy that I will submit to to help me by drilling in my tooth, then I'm still in samsara. As long as I still have to go to a guy and have him torture me so I can be healthy, I must be still in samsara. And as long as dentists still exist who drill your teeth, it's an eloquent and undeniable proof that Lord Buddha cannot give you his good seeds. You have to earn them. Just the existence of dentists. Except the ones who do the cleaning, I guess. But even that's painful. Yeah, okay. Okay, next picture. If it's time to admit the failure of our old system by raising our hand from gug, gug, gug, gug, gug, drowning in the ocean, then it's time to admit the success of Lord Buddha. It's time to admit that he got it done. And you can enjoy that. At least we know somebody, right? At least we have a report that somebody did it. Imagine a life in a world where they don't even talk about people who did it. That would be depressing, right? There's probably places like that, right? I grew up in a Christian country. I grew up with this story of Jesus's sacrifice and Jesus's perfection and Jesus saying that if someone hits you on this side of your face, give them the other side. If he steals your coat, give him your sweater. I grew up with that. Thank goodness, I mean, I'm so grateful, right? I mean, to grow up in a world where they even talk about somebody like that is a great karma. Okay, got it? So you have to admit at some point that those stories exist in your culture and you had enough goodness to be born there. Even if you don't follow that tradition, you have enough goodness to hear people talk about it, which is very lucky, extremely lucky. Or the stories... By the way, if we get there, there's a pile of stories coming of beautiful things that Lord Buddha did to get to where he was. Very, very beautiful stories. And you can go through them quick or you can purposely slow down and savor them. Guess what we're going to do? Yeah, I think so. And the Lam Rim might take another year. What the hell? That's okay. Okay. Okay. So there's a practice in the monastery called GANG SO. Say GANG SO. GANG SO The GANG means to fill up your gas tank with good deeds. SO means SO SBYONG means confess all your bad deeds. So there is a tantric practice called GANG SO, which is to fill up your gas tank with good deeds and to clean out the filters. That's a good example, right? To clean out the filters of your bad deeds. And that's one of the main activities of a college in a monastery. So in the Tsongkapa tradition, monasteries, they are the largest monasteries in the world. Traditionally, they had 10,000 or 15,000 monks each before they were all destroyed. The survivors have built themselves back to about 3,000 monks in each of the major monasteries. But a major monastery like Seramay is divided into 12 colleges, which are called GANG SEMS. And by the way, if your teacher comes from a certain college, you're a member of that college automatically, whether you want it or not. So we're from GER RUNG College. Of the 12 colleges of Seramay, similar to the colleges of Oxford, but better. You are GER RUNG. So if anybody asks you, you're from GER RUNG. Who's the greatest monk from GER RUNG ever? The guy who wrote this Lam Rim. He's our most famous member of our college. So you can, if you can't remember the word GER RUNG, you can say, oh yeah, I'm from that guy, what's his name? Pabongka Rinpoche's college. We're the same college. If you come from Seram, that's how you would answer that question. Why am I talking about college? Each college has their own monthly GANG SOS. GANG SOS means this tantric ritual for purification and collecting good karma. It's called GANG SOS. It's similar to SO SBYONG. So every college has their own secret GANG SOS practice. So in the next class, tomorrow, we're going to learn a special GANG SOS from your college, GER RUNG College. You're going to get a special GANG SOS practice tomorrow from your college. And it comes in this Lam Rim here. Okay, cool. All right. All right, see you guys tomorrow.
