[Speaker 1]
Okay, let's go. We'll start the meditation by listening to the sound of the air conditioner. And don't forget, try not to move.

When the body moves, then the mind moves also. So we try to keep our body without moving, like a stone, and put our mind on the air conditioner. Now please try to focus on your heartbeat.

Dingo inside of the heart, like a beautiful sunlit apartment. And then deeper into the center of the heart, the heartbeat sounds far away. And then put your mind inside a single sugar crystal.

Now expand your mind as wide as the ocean. Now expand ocean and sky. In the next step, the sixth step, we try to turn the mind off.

So any thoughts that come in the mind, just find them and block them. And any pictures that come in the mind, then find them and block them. Try to make the mind silent.

We'll stay here a little bit longer because it's new. Eighth step, as the mind thinks about things and pictures come to the mind, just let them go. Don't try to fight with them.

But also don't connect with them. Don't connect with them. Keep the mind quiet.

Let the thoughts come and go. But don't think about them. Now we start the real meditation.

Now we begin the real meditation. Level nine, and think about one of your teachers. Could be any teacher in your life.

Could be your mom or your dad, who are your first grade teachers. Could be a school teacher. Could be the person who taught you your job.

Could be a spiritual teacher. Could be a great teacher from the past like Buddha. So think of one of them and ask them to come and sit in front of you.

Try to make them real. They are breathing. They are warm.

They are smiling. They are looking at you with happiness. Imagine your teacher.

Now think of something about this teacher that you really appreciate. If it's your parents, maybe it's all the kindness they give to you. Or maybe they are especially patient.

Or maybe they like to help other people. Or maybe they are a very responsible person. Or they like to work hard to help other people.

So think of just one quality that you really enjoy about this teacher. Now the teacher is like the pen. What we see in the teacher is coming from us.

This is the meaning of cause and effect. This is the meaning of dependent origination. I have seeds in my mind.

And when they open, I see this beautiful quality in my teacher. Somebody put those seeds in my mind. Somebody put those seeds in my mind.

And that person is me. So sometime in my past life, I must have done very similar good things to my teacher. If my teacher is very helpful to other people, then in my past life, I must have been very helpful.

So now we're going to go on a little trip to the past life. Maybe we can't see the past life directly, but we can guess what we did. If my teacher is very helpful to other people in this life, then in the past life, I must have been very helpful to other people.

So we cannot remember directly perhaps, but we can imagine. And anything we can imagine is also coming from our seeds. So it won't be very wrong.

So now try to imagine your past life. Relax. Have fun.

You can imagine any time in history. It could be any country. You could be man, you could be woman, you could be animal.

Go to the past life. Imagine when you were very helpful, or whichever seeds you planted to see your teacher, and find what you did. When we do this meditation, sometimes we find the person in the past life, and we stop.

But don't do like that. Imagine what was this person doing. Imagine two or three specific incidents which really happened, and play it like a movie in your mind.

Oh, I'm being so helpful to other people in Chang'an, in the Tang Dynasty. And I'm dressed like Tang Dynasty person. Maybe I work for the emperor.

And I'm helping Xuanzang to translate the books. You imagine. Make it fun.

Make it beautiful. Sometimes we will get sleepy, we will think about other things. When you catch your mind thinking about other things, just be happy, bring it back to your movie.

Okay, we'll spend some time here, and after that we'll take a break. So relax, have fun. Okay, here we go.

Then slowly bring your mind back to your teacher who's sitting in front of you. Appreciate where this good quality came from. Those old seeds are opening in your mind.

Small pictures are coming out. They are coming out of your mind to the person in front of you. And that's why we see a nice person.

Be happy, because now we understand where this person's coming from. And that means we can keep them. We just keep planting the same seeds.

It's easy. Then we'll take three big exhales slowly. Don't forget this special exhale method.

Okay. When the exhales finish, push out a little more air. Okay, three big exhales.

And then slowly open your eyes. Take a stretch. We're going to have questions and answers, Nick.

Thank you. Drink something, okay?

[Speaker 2]
Good morning, Nick. I have two questions. One is, when you were doing the meditation yesterday, when you were exhaling, did you pause for a moment and then exhale as much as possible?

And then when you were doing the meditation, for example, when you were doing the meditation just now, did you do it consciously or did you just do it when you were telling us to do it?

[Speaker 1]
I have two questions. The first question is, you told us that we are doing them during meditation when we breathe out. When our breath stops, we push out extra air.

But just now you also reminded us to do so. So my question is, should we keep doing that during the meditation or just do it when you remind us to do? Very, very nice question.

And if you can do it often during the meditation, you won't get nervous. If you don't do it, then the air will collect in the lungs, and the air and the prana are connected. And then the prana will increase.

And you will start—maybe you feel tight in your chest, or your hand's a little bit shaky, or there's a special headache, meditation headache, like in the jing they call, come, come, come, come, come. You will get a little bit headache. So if you feel, or you cannot sleep well, or you can sleep too well, then learn to do it all the time.

Yeah, even if I don't remind you, you should do. Okay, second question.

[Speaker 2]
Okay.

[Speaker 1]
So during the Lion Dance meditation, when we imagine, visualize the ocean, are we looking from above the ocean, or are we in the ocean, deep in the ocean? Nice question. I think you must be meditating if you have these questions, and not thinking about lunch.

Thank you. Your mind becomes the ocean. So, it's kind of like the mind goes, hmm?

Good translator. Then, should we say, sometimes it helps in the ocean meditation. In the ocean meditation, if you imagine a very quiet ocean, and someone drops a small stone in the middle, where Geshe Michael's shining spot, guan, someone dropped a stone here, in the middle of the ocean, then the ripple goes like this, and you can follow the ripple.

How far? Part of your mind go to Los Angeles. Part of your mind go to ...

What's that pearl city? Zhuhai. Zhuhai.

Okay? It's expanding, expanding. So, sometimes you can use the ripples.

Ripple. Okay? And your mind going farther, farther, farther, farther.

Okay. So, you are not looking down on the water. Your mind is the water.

Cool?

[Speaker 2]
Very cool. Thank you so much.

[Speaker 1]
Thank you. Okay. Other question?

Other question?

[Speaker 2]
Okay.

[Speaker 1]
This way?

[Speaker 2]
I want to say thank you for the teaching.

[Speaker 1]
And my question, Peter, can you translate? We are translating. We are translating.

What must I do to combine my joyful doing with my fight against death in such a way that I feel joy in this fight against death? My problem is very concrete, that I get out of bed in the morning and then miss my practice. My question is how can I combine my joyful effort with the fight against death?

Especially it's very hard to get up in the morning out of bed with joyful effort and practice. I didn't catch it. I didn't catch it either.

We couldn't catch it. We couldn't hear clearly. Can you say it slowly?

How can I combine my joyful effort with my fight against death?

[Speaker 2]
Especially in the morning to get up.

[Speaker 1]
When I wake up to practice with joyful effort. Okay. Good.

Good. Okay. Should I translate first?

Yeah. In the ancient book, to increase joyful effort. Joyful effort means happy to meditate.

Happy to study. Happy to help other people. Then in the ancient book, there's a method during meditation.

When you feel sleepy, or today you feel a little bit tired, and you don't feel like, oh, I want to meditate. Okay, so it's the same correction. The same way to fix it.

It's called Sengdupa. Sengdupa means think about how many people there are in this world. There are seven billion people.

All of them going to die. Okay? Everything they are doing today— make money, go here, go there, buy things— all of it going to finish.

Each person will die. Okay? Then when they die, they don't know what to do.

Okay? Their friends will stop talking to them. Your friend will come to the hospital two or three times.

Then they will stop coming. Okay? If you're older person, most of your friends are dead already.

Nobody will come. Then you will die alone. The time after death is much longer than the time before death.

The time after you die is much longer than the time between now and then. So, this is a seven billion people situation. Only five hundred today, I think, are learning what to do.

Okay? Five hundred people in Thailand, they are learning something they can do when they die, after they die. Then six billion, nine hundred and ninety-five million, and five ...

nine ... I don't remember. Then, they're not here.

They don't know what to do. So, you are one person out of million who's here, who's learning something that can help you. Okay?

No one took you to your past life before. I don't think so. Okay?

So ... Okay, so listen. Out of seven hundred billion people in the world, five hundred have some hope after they die.

Five hundred have karma to come here. Out of seven billion, then my teacher will make a joke. Maybe you are special.

Maybe you are one out of million people. Maybe you should be happy. I'm special.

Okay? Like that. Okay?

Then ... So, when you wake up in the morning, and you don't feel joyful effort, you could go like this. Maybe ...

I'm special. Okay? Then you feel excited.

Okay? And do something special. Okay.

Okay. Another question?

[Speaker 2]
Here.

[Speaker 1]
Keshila, thank you for the teaching. Oh, hi. Okay.

Hi. I have a question. When I bring the teacher's face to my mind, when I meditate on the teacher, I have a very strong feeling, and tears will roll down.

I would like to know what are the causes, and am I using up a lot of good seeds? Thank you. He said that when I do the meditation and bring the teacher's face to my mind, and then the emotion comes up, I have tears.

So, your question is that am I using up a lot of good seeds, and what's the cause for the tears, right? Correct. Oh, okay, good.

Good. So, as you know, there are three kinds of meditation. Shargon, chogon, chogon.

Shargon means like just review something. Like tomorrow morning, you can do a short meditation. After, maybe you can do a meditation.

Then, what did Geshe-la talk about yesterday? Okay, just, we call review meditation. I have a friend who works for a big company.

He's Chinese person. Dow Chemical Company. It's a chemical company.

And he got that job like 20 years ago. And he's, we call entry level. He start at the bottom.

And every morning, he does shargon, review meditation, about what he have to do today. Then, one by one, he will think what I have to do today. You know him, Jeffrey Zou.

And he did that every year. Then, he became the head of all the HR. I think 50,000 people or something from this meditation.

So, that's the first kind of meditation object. This thing, then Geshe-la did this thing, then Geshe-la did this thing, and then, okay, that's called shargon. Then, second kind of meditation is chegong.

Chegong means problem-solving meditation. You can do shargon and then chegong. What I have to do today?

This one, this one. Oh, this, I have meeting with difficult person. Then, what will I do?

Then, think of some solution. This is second kind of meditation. Then, many people don't understand these two are meditation.

But they are real meditation. Third kind of meditation is called jogong. Jogong means pick one object and keep it in the mind.

And don't let the mind think about many things. Pick one object. Hold it in the mind.

What object you pick is very important. For example, there's a famous story. The student was going to retreat in a small cave.

Then, ask the teacher, what kind of meditation should I do? Shargon, chegong, or jogong? Then, teacher was very busy, a little bit irritated.

I taught you a whole year. You don't remember anything? Oh, just tell me what to meditate, teacher.

Didn't it? Teacher was a little bit upset. Teacher said, meditate that you are a cow.

Boy cow. With a big horn. Okay?

Yes, teacher. I will do. He went to the cave.

He meditated. I'm a cow. He visualized cow.

Big horns. After one week, teacher asked his other student, where's that irritating student who asked me what to meditate about after I taught him for one year? Well, he went to meditate in the cave, teacher.

Did he come back? Did you see him? No.

[Speaker 2]
Did you see?

[Speaker 1]
No. Did anybody see? Did you see?

No, he didn't come back. Go check. Then, three students went quickly.

Check what happened. The student is in the cave. He cannot get out.

His horns catch on the door. Understand? His meditation is so good, he cannot get out the door.

The horns are too big. Why is Geshe-la talking about that? She's also wondering, did he forget my question?

There's a famous teaching. When you meditate on something, it's like a mirror. Your mind is like a mirror.

Then, here's the object, and your mind is like a mirror. So, what thing you meditate about, it will come in the mirror, and it will affect your mind. Of course, that's the goal of meditation.

Therefore, when you meditate, don't meditate on mango. You can if you want to, but then your mind will become like mango. Okay?

So, what's the best thing to meditate? Your best teacher. Your mom.

Your dad. Best school teacher. Spiritual teacher.

Buddha. When you meditate on the teacher, in this meditation, automatically you are making very good seeds. Because what comes in the mirror will create seeds in your mind.

So, if you bring the teacher here, and you're thinking about, oh, you did so many good things for me, and I love you very much, and the tears come, that's perfect meditation. That's a great meditation. Okay?

One more question, if you have. One more question. Thank you.

Yeah, Geshe-la, I have one question. Because I'm trying... Actually, I have two questions.

Okay, the first one is...

[Speaker 2]
I will charge double.

[Speaker 1]
Okay, the first question is, I would like to... When I'm doing this lion dance meditation, because we heard different audio from you, so we realized that every time you teach quite differently.

[Speaker 2]
So should we follow the latest one, or actually we just choose the one that we are more familiar with?

[Speaker 1]
Okay, first question. Should I translate? Yeah, I'm sorry.

Okay. Yeah, every time I teach lion's dance, I will teach different, a little bit different. Why?

It depends on the audience. Okay. So, we just came from Shenzhen.

And we are studying in Shenzhen a very famous book by Xuanzang student from the Tang Dynasty. And his name is Yuan Tse. And he wrote an unbelievable book.

It's about 2,000—1,475 pages. It will take 29 years to translate. And it's a commentary on sutra.

The sutra is called Sandhi-Nirmochana Sutra. And you can translate the fanwen Sanskrit. You can say, what did you really mean?

Which one is correct? The name comes from the question of a bodhisattva. Buddha, you taught us many times.

Each time different. Same subject, you teach different way. Which one correct?

What's the Buddha answer? All correct. Which one you want me to do?

Which one fits you? Okay, I went with my friend, my partner, Veronica. We went to buy jeans for her.

I'm telling all the boys, never go to buy jeans with a lady. Okay, this is three, four hours. I'm not kidding.

She tried this one. Too long. Try this one.

Wrong color. Try this one. My bottom doesn't look good.

Like that. Then after thirty-five pairs, something, there's nothing here. Let's go to other store.

They don't even give chair for the boy to sit. The boy have to stand up. Okay, why I talk about that?

If you hear lions dance three, four, five times, it's like ladies' jeans. So, try it on. This one feels good.

I'll take this one. Okay, so, in the sutra, two thousand years ago, which Yuan Tze wrote commentary? Buddha's answer.

Come to many of my teaching. Try on the pants. Which one fit you?

Do that one. Cool? Okay, next question.

Next question. My next question is, because now I have a baby, I'm trying to do the lion dance meditation, but I think the peaceful seat not enough, so every time halfway, he will cry. So after he cry, I settle down, then I come back, I want to continue meditation.

Then I have to start from level one again, to level nine. Then when I do until level four, then after that, I need to repeat again. So actually I ask some of my friends, whether can I just continue for the last episode?

Yeah. So, some say yes, some say no. So I would like to know whether, is it okay for us to continue from the last episode?

Okay. My next question is, because now I have a baby, I'm trying to do the lion dance meditation, but every time halfway, he will cry. So after I settle down, I come back, then I have to start from level one again.

Then when I do until level four, he will cry again. So I have to keep repeating. So I ask some of my friends, whether can I just continue from the last episode?

Some say yes, some say no. So I would like to know, So, if you have baby, you are very lucky. You can go directly to lion's dance part five.

Okay? Then, I hope we will reach it during this week. I will try, okay?

Round five? Round five, yeah. Not level five.

Not level five, round five. Then, it's called pel gong. Pel gong.

Okay? And it's to make your mind strong. Okay?

It's to make your meditation strong. So, they will say, think about the ocean. Your mind is like the ocean.

Now listen to the air conditioner. Come out. Listen to the air conditioner.

Now come back. Ocean. Like that.

Can you show how strong is your meditation muscle? Okay. We have arm muscle.

We have meditation muscle. How strong is your meditation muscle? My teacher, when we meditate, he will bring McDonald's french fries.

Okay, you meditate. Then, he will put the french fries here. How good is your meditation?

Come to the french fries. Go back. Come to the french fries.

Go back. Don't think about french fries. Okay?

Then, it makes your mind strong. So, in life, in your whole life, people will cause you trouble. People will make interruptions.

Every time you meditate, the garbage truck will come outside. Okay? If they didn't pick up your garbage for three days, meditate.

They will come. Okay? This is the best way to get the garbage truck to come.

Brrr, brrr, tsssh, brrr, brrr, tsssh, brrr. Okay? I'm...

Then, in life, you know, people will interrupt you. Things will go wrong. You know.

You have choice. You can be unhappy. Ha!

Baby is crying again. Or, Or, you can say, Buddha came. Buddha came with French fries.

Buddha checking my meditation. Like that, okay? So, use the interruption as part of the meditation.

Don't fight. Same with people who bother you. You will learn more about meditation from the people you don't like than from the people you do like.

In your life, you will learn more about yourself from the people who try to hurt you. You don't learn anything from your friends. Oh, Xiaoping, you are so nice.

I love you. Then you're like, yeah! You don't learn anything.

Somebody comes in. Geshe Michael, you always interrupt everybody. Your friends cannot finish one sentence.

You always interrupt, you know? Then, when people criticize you, or something go wrong, you learn something. Okay?

When people are like, oh, Xiaoping, you're so nice. You don't learn anything. So, there's a special prayer.

Today, may I meet as many irritating people as possible. And then Okay. Let's take a break, okay?

PP break. When you hear the bell, now, teachers will be here if you have personal questions. You can ask personal questions.

[Speaker 2]
Okay, have a break.

[Speaker 1]
Let's go back to the Lam Rim book. We were, do you remember what we were talking about? Shopping.

What? It's okay to buy nice things. But you should make more seeds than you use.

Don't be like American people. They always spend more money than they make. They always get into debt.

Then, we shouldn't get into karma debt. Okay? It's okay to use nice things.

But don't be this American lady. She just found out she is in big debt. So, you can buy a Tesla Model X.

But make sure to give lots of rides to other people. Then you are making more seeds than you are using. Okay?

It's not you should buy a bad car. Okay, if you buy a bad car, you are a good person. If you live in a dirty house, you are a good Buddhist.

It's not like that. Okay? You can have a nice house.

You can have a nice car. But share with other people. Help other people.

Otherwise, you are spending more than you are making. Karma. You are spending more karma.

Okay? So, when you get money, you can use it. Enjoy.

Enjoy life. Those Buddhas in the painting, they are not like that. They are like, and they have nice Buddha paradise.

Okay? They are also staying in a nice place. Okay?

But they earn it. By helping other people. Okay?

Alright. Now, those Devas, like planets are marble players. Is this working better?

Yeah. Okay. It's good now?

Better or good? So far, so good. Okay.

Alright. They don't know about this system. When they get money, they use everything for themselves.

And I'll tell you something interesting about rich people. When we start our diamond business, I have seven dollars. Then, later, we made one million dollars.

Then, I have partner. Then, he said, wow! We made one million dollars.

Let's have big Christmas party. Let's invite all the workers' family. Let's give everybody bonus, all the workers.

We made one million dollars. Then, later, we made ten million. Then, he's like, I think we have to cut the Christmas party.

Make smaller. I said, when we made one million, you had a big Christmas party. Now, we made ten million, you want to cut the smaller Christmas party.

Why? I bought an extra house. I have third car.

You know, like that. Some businessmen have two wives. Then, I don't have money.

Cut the Christmas party. Then, we reached hundred million. No Christmas party.

Okay, understand? So, human nature, when you get more and more, you become more and more stingy. Okay?

Then, you will lose the seed. Okay? You will lose the money.

So, it's normal human being. More, more, more success. Success going up.

Seed going down. See? They are eating the result, and they are not making new seed.

So, don't be like that. If you make more success, more charity, more sharing, more Christmas party. Okay?

More and more.

[Speaker 2]
Okay?

[Speaker 1]
Then, it should go like this. Okay? Both going up.

Now, these devas, they don't understand. And they are very successful. And every year, they spend more and more on themselves.

Okay? It's not bad to spend some on yourself. I don't know.

Spend 50%, spend 75% on yourself. It's okay. But share.

25%. Share with other people. Okay?

Then, your success will go like this. These devas, they don't know. Get more success.

More and more tight. More and more stingy. Finally, they don't do any good thing.

Okay? Then, comes the day that they die. Like, ten days before they die, something happen to them.

They can see the future. Okay? Oh, I'm going to die in ten days.

I can see. Then, I'm going to the hell. Why?

I spend all my good seeds. Okay? To be here.

To be rich person. I use up all my seeds. Now, I'm dying.

I will have to go down. Then, it says, in that week, they have 16 times more suffering than the people in the hell. And the one week in their world is like 100 years in our world.

When Asanga went to Maitreya's heaven to get the lion's dance, I think he was there for like one week. When he came home, 150 years passed. All his friends are dead.

Like that. Okay? So, for a rich person who did not share with other people, did not give to charity, then they get cancer.

Then, that time is biggest suffering. Because they understand, I didn't help anybody. I don't have good seeds.

I burn all my good seeds with the three houses. Three cars. Two wives.

Okay? Like that. Everybody, every man think, oh, I have second wife.

First of all, it's a bad karma. Okay? And it affect everything.

Okay? Two things mainly. Number one, the second one will also cheat you.

Because you have cheating karma. And also, okay, I'm sorry, but sex will not be good. It will go down.

Okay? Because you are making bad karma. Then, you don't get anything.

Okay? You lose the girl, you lose the sex. And cannot have sex.

Stupid. Okay? Don't do it.

Also very expensive. Okay. ,RANG RE'I PHYI MA'I SKYE BA SANG YIN, ,THEG TZAM DU BZHIN DU BZHIN NA'ANG, ,SDUG BSNGAL YANG YID MI DE BA LTAR YOD NA, ,DE'ER NGES PAR NGAN SONG DU SKYE BA THAG BCAD PA MTHONG LAS, They see they are going to the hell realms.

Then there's a famous poem from the ancient sutra. And they started in this text, but they don't finish it. It says, ,GYIS BU ZHING DANG LA RDZOGS GSAL, and then it says dot dot dot, etc.

So I went and got it for you. ,GAL LONG DAG DE NAS LHA'I BU, By the way, we save about, I don't know, three or four million pages of Jing. We have project for 31 years.

And we are saving the ancient Jing. And then we put in the online for free. And there's a search program.

So this morning, it just takes me one minute. I can look through a million pages of Jing. And I can find this.

It will take us about 700 years to finish. We finish about 10%. And then we have to translate.

Alright, so here's the quotation. ,GAL LONG DAG DE NAS LHA'I BU, PHU ZHIG PHYI PHOS GCOD KYI SRA DANG LDAN DOG STE, When those devas see they have to die, when rich people see they have to die, they get more suffering than normal people. DAN DOG means they're actually rolling on the ground.

DANG SDUG, SHIN TU SNYING RJE'I RJE SKAD DU, Then they start to cry. ,GYI RHAD DAL GYI PAR PAR, ,GYI RHAD DZIN, ,GYI RHAD DZIN PO, ,GYI RHAD ZHING DANG NA TSOG CHEN GYI GZHAG, ,GYI RHAD TSUB GYUR GYUR TSE, ,GYI RHAD DGA' BA'I TSAR, ,GYI RHAD DRE PA'I TSAR, ,GYI RHAD YONGS SU BDOD, ,GYI RHAD DUG PA, ,GYI RHAD RMONGS GNYIS BTAB PA'I DOR LAS, ,GYI RHAD LHA'I DON TSAG, ,GYI RHAD DANG LDAN DOG ZHES, GYI RHAD means ARGH! Then, oh my, cute!

Oh, I remember all the beautiful things in my life. I remember the beach in the Thailand hotel. This hotel is very similar to the devas' place.

They also have swimming pool. They also have beach. They also have good room service.

They have nice restaurant. Then, KYI HU means, he says, oh, I remember the beach. I remember the swimming pool.

I remember the room service. I don't remember the green dream. Just kidding.

Okay. Then, they suffer. Okay, good.

PHYI STE PHOGS PA'I LHAG LDAN LHA'I BU DANG BU MO GSOL LHA GZHAN GZUGS KYANG MI SKYES LTA BA MTSAM YANG Then the other deva understand, this one going to die soon. You mean, the other one know the... Yeah, they look at me and they say, oh, he's going to die soon.

Then they don't want to talk to you. They don't even want to look at you. In this world also, if you get old, or when you get old, then you go in the restaurant, you know, and they don't notice you.

You go to the airport and they don't want to help you. People don't like old people because old people remind them that they also will become old. So, that's an extra suffering of old people.

People ignore them, okay, because they make people uncomfortable. Okay, because people don't want to remember, I will be like that. They want to only see young people, beautiful people, okay?

RO SHING DU SPANG STE Then they don't call you, they don't come to see you. Then those devas who are getting old, they will like call their old friend. Hey, let's hang out a little bit, you know.

Come over to my house. I'm thinking about you. Then I, yeah, I'm a little busy today.

Maybe tomorrow, maybe tomorrow. Be sure I will come tomorrow. Then nobody wants to come.

Their body also begins to smell, okay? There's a death smell. It's coming.

And then the other people, they don't want to be with them. Why? They don't want to think they will be like that.

Okay, MI GYI LTA BA TZAM YANG MI BYED People won't even look at you. I have a friend, she was a fashion model. Very beautiful.

Now, when you go to her house, she just wants to show you the photo. You know? Then it's almost like she is not herself, she is the photo.

Then look, look, look at that. You know? I met a very famous yoga teacher.

I was in India. I was doing two-month retreat. And I call his yoga center.

It's actually, I can say the name, it's Mr. Iyengar. Iyengar. And I call his school.

It's about 15 years ago. Can I meet Mr. Iyengar? Then they said, yeah, yeah, you come.

Then I took a long, bad train ride. And I go to the school. You know?

And I said, you know, I made appointment to see Mr. Iyengar. They say he's too busy. Cannot see you.

Then I'm a little bit irritated. Okay. Then I remember, I said, I heard you have a good Sanskrit library.

Yeah, yeah, we have. Can I see it? Yeah, yeah, you go downstairs.

You can see the books. So I went downstairs. Library is empty.

And I went in the deep, deep in the library. In the back, old man sitting there. It's Iyengar.

He's very famous. Then I'm like ... Then I was a little bit more irritated.

They say he's busy, you know? Then I sat down, you know. We talked for almost two hours.

So I was lucky. But a sad thing. At that time he was very old.

And he says, let me show you my photo. He says, let me show you my photo. Look at this one.

I can do this thing. Look at this one. I can do, you know.

And actually I felt sad. Because he cannot do now. So we will be like that.

We will show people our picture. Look, I used to be young. Okay, this happens.

Okay, then some of the friend of the deva who's going to die. So deva should have a fresh flower on their head and their neck every day. This is custom.

But after you get old, and you have the death smell, then the friends who are not very close friends, they will not even come to your house. The other one who loves you, they will put the flower on a stick. Long stick.

And they will put the flower on your head. Because they don't want to smell you. Okay?

Then they will say, you know, from a distance. So, you're going to die now. And you will go to the hell.

But try to do good things. Maybe you can come back. Goodbye!

Like that. Then their last days are very sad. And they cannot help them.

YI MI DE BA CHEN PO, great mental suffering in their place. Then somebody said, yeah, okay, when Iron Man's going to die, he feels sad. But while he's alive, it's pretty cool, you know, Spider-Man, Iron Man.

But you don't understand how does Spider-Man feel about Iron Man. He's jealous. Oh, he's so big.

I'm so small. And I have to work very hard to go from building to building. He can't fly everywhere.

So, inside the superhero, super jealous. Super jealous. Superhero, super jealous.

Okay? The inside, you don't know. They're all looking at him.

He's a little more handsome than me. He sells more movie tickets than me. Okay?

All of them are unhappy. Even if they are not ready to die, they die every day from jealousy.

[Speaker 2]
Okay?

[Speaker 1]
Those famous actors, famous people, they have one special suffering. You cannot stay number one forever. Then there's a new number one.

Then you're like ... You are number two. You are second highest paid person in the movies.

Should be happy, right? You cannot. Jealous of number one.

I only make $100 million. He make $101 million. My life is very unhappy.

Okay? So, these famous people, big people, they have special problem that we don't have. It's a jealous, competition jealousy.

That's why I didn't become movie star. Too much trouble. Okay.

Then actually, they will fight each other. And it happens in this life also. The very rich people hate the other very rich people.

The very powerful people hate the other powerful people. They will fight with each other. Both of them have Tesla Model X.

One ... I met a guy. He came to me.

He took me to his office in Beijing. My office rent is $5 million every year. Then he take me everywhere.

One of the biggest buildings in Beijing. He said, my rent is $5 million. I'm like, yeah, okay.

Then, I'm not even jealous because I'm not close. Then he said, now you want to see my house? They're already on board.

I'm like, okay. We have to walk to his house. Then I saw Starbucks.

I said, ah, stop. That's my office. He's like, what?

I said, and they build for me in every major city I have. Okay. Okay, anyway, those rich people fight with each other.

Anyway, there are three kinds of suffering. Some of you do yoga, right? And in the yoga class, you can hear ...

sometimes at the end, there's a prayer. They say shanti, shanti, shanti. This comes from Upanishad.

Upanishad is yoga jing. It's a nice word. It has three parts.

Upanishad. Upanishad. After i, sa has to change to sha.

Upanishad. Sha means to sit down. Sha means sit.

Ni means down. Upa means close to the feet of the teacher. Upanishad means sit down below the teacher and listen to the teacher.

So, the name of their jing is to sit down close to the teacher's feet. Then one famous jing says shanti, shanti, shanti. It means peace, peace, peace.

But Sanskrit also means stop, stop, stop. You have to stop three things. These are three kinds of suffering.

We all have three kinds of suffering. Number one, pain. Like, I don't know, headache.

Or your back feels bad. Your knees feel bad. You have stomachache.

This is the first kind of suffering. Second kind of suffering. Suffering of change.

Then in the jing, what's the example? Where's Nick? Where'd he go?

Oh, there. Finally. Nick.

What's the example of the suffering of change in the jing, in the scripture? Yeah, a nice meal in a French restaurant. Okay, a very nice meal.

It's the second kind of suffering. Why? You will get hungry again.

You will always get hungry again. There's no meal, you eat it and you say, okay, I don't have to eat anymore. That's so delicious.

That's so expensive. I don't have to eat for the rest of this week. There's no meal like that.

Any happiness we get, we want more. It will change. It will change.

Okay, so first kind of suffering. Pain. Mental pain, physical pain.

Second kind of suffering. Change. Things, things, okay?

Good meal make you hungry later. Third kind of suffering. Human body.

Okay, human body. Okay, this body. Made from karma.

Okay, it has to die. It has to get old. It doesn't matter you put cream on it.

You know, put all this, it doesn't matter. It will still get old. There's a joke in the monastery.

When you meet your yoga teacher, they'll say, did you do yoga today? Yes. How much?

Oh, last time I did two hours. Ah, very good. Now you are two hours closer to die.

Okay? Why? This is body condition.

You can do yoga. It will keep you a little healthy. But you will get old and die.

That famous yoga teacher I met, he died recently, right? Yeah, okay, so this is condition. The third kind of suffering is this kind of body.

Doesn't matter what you do. It will die. Okay, so those big devas, some of them don't have suffering of the final week.

But still they have this body. Okay? And still they have this suffering.

CHI PO'A DANG GNAS PA LA RANG BAR MED PA'I Nobody has power to not die. You cannot say, I don't want to die. You have to die.

Okay? MED PA'I GNAS NGANS PA'I DUNG YANG YIN This is the nature of the body. Is it possible not to die?

Where's the body come from? Seed. Come from seed.

Okay, we just did past life meditation. Right? You made seed in your past life.

You have this body. Okay? Is it possible not to die?

If you make money by helping other people, four steps. You plant seed. You give hundred dollars.

And you get thousand dollars. Do you have to lose it or not? Lose it.

Yes or no? Don't have to lose. How not to lose?

Share. Share it. Okay?

That's a rich person's disease. They don't want to share. Okay?

So, if you make some money, you know, use 90%. It's okay. For yourself.

It's okay. But always share 10% with the poor people, with the charity. Always share.

Then you keep the money going. Then, oh, Geshe-la. That doesn't make sense, you know?

If I make hundred dollars, I should give 50% to the charity, and I should keep 50%, then the karma keep going. No, you don't understand second law of karma. Karma always grows.

Okay? Seed for a tree is half a gram. Tree is 5,000 kilogram.

Why? This is nature of seed. Okay?

Small seed makes big tree. So, you don't even have to share 50%. You share 10%.

It's okay. And it will keep going. When I was in the diamond business, every year, I will give half my salary to the monastery.

Then, they will write a check every year. My profit, the company will donate to the monastery directly. Then there's no tax.

And the company can take tax deduction, and it's legal. So, every year, they will write a check. Half my salary.

Give to charity. Then, there's one CFO. His name is John Espinoza.

Then, he has to write the check. Then, one day, I went to his office. Okay, I need my check.

For charity. Then, he's a very Christian man. He teaches a lot of kids.

Christianity. Then, he's a good man. He said, Mr. Roach, you sit down. I said, what? He said, look, you cannot work forever. He said, look, you cannot work forever.

One day, you will get old. Then, it's very good you are giving away your money. That's a very good thing.

But, you know, I'm your financial person, and it's my responsibility to give you good advice. Don't give away so much money. You know, put a little bit in a bank account.

Retirement account. Then, I said, I do. He said, what's a bank?

I said, it's called the bank of other people. That's where I put my money for my retirement. Most safe bank.

Other bank can fail. Investment can fail. American dollar can fail.

Completely. Okay? The only safe place to put your money is the bank of other people.

Cannot steal. Cannot fail. This impossible bankrupt.

Okay? They are protecting my money even now. It's coming back a lot.

Understand? Okay, cool. Uh...

TSOGS KYI GTAM LAS GANG ZHIG GZU BYANG SU MED PAS SDUG BSNGAL SDUG BSNGAL LEN BRAS ZHING MTHING BRTZON DE BA'I DANG NYID CHEN GAL PA YOD PAR MED MED NAS DE'ANG ZHIG DU NGES BRTZOL YIN MIN DE LAS DE LAS LA YANG LTUNG BAR GYUR So, these are special kind of deva. They learned the lion's dance. But they fell asleep before step number nine.

In the class. They do the ocean. They do the sky.

They stop the mind. Then... Good translation.

Then the teacher teach about going to the past life. Where did I plant my teacher? They didn't hear that part.

So, what happens if you just do first eight steps? Recently, I cut my finger very seriously. The day before I came to China, my teacher taught me to use the cai dao.

You know, big one. Then his examination, cai dao examination, to cut the vegetable with the eyes closed. You know, like this.

And you have to put here. And you don't have to look. Then I was showing off my friend, look, look.

I don't have to... Pretty serious cut. Then I went to the hospital.

I said, I have to go to China tomorrow. You have to fix. Then the doctor is very cool, you know.

He gave several injections. Then he started to sew. Then we are talking, you know.

And he's like, what do you do? Why you go to China? Oh, I teach people, you know.

He said, I also went to China. I said, why? He said, I'm interested in Buddhism.

You know, I said, oh, really. He said, yeah, I'm meditation teacher. I said, wow.

I said, what kind? He called vipassana. Then I said, you know, my first meditation teacher, 1973, before you were born, it's Goenka, Goenka.

So he started vipassana. And I spent 10 days with him. And this guy's very happy because he couldn't meet Goenka.

Goenka passed away. Then I said, what kind of meditation you do? He said, we watch the breath.

Then I said, well, but what's the content? You know, what do you put in the mirror? Oh, no, we just breathe.

Then, okay, no content. It doesn't change your mind. It gives you concentration.

But it doesn't change your mind. So, then he finished, and I said, okay, goodbye. Then I sent him Jingang Jing.

Read this. You know, you need some content. Okay, like that.

But if you don't have content, and I just watch your breath, it's actually a kind of a small good karma. Because when you are watching your breath, you are not hurting anybody. Usually, we are hurting other people almost all the time.

Or we are having bad thoughts almost all the time. Small bad thoughts. Like, I don't like this green thing.

Or, you know, it's too hot, or too cold. It's too long. Like, we have small talking mind all the time.

Mostly complaining. But when you watch your breath, you are not making new bad karma. So, you will be born in a special peaceful place.

And very interesting. It's called form realm or formless realm. In the first minute of that life, you have one thought.

Oh, I'm born in the formless realm. I'm born in the form realm. Then your mind goes back to the old meditation.

Like, you're just watching your breath. And you can live like that for many years. Then one week before you die, your body starts to change.

So, if no content, if you only do the eight steps, you can be born in that place. And your mind is in meditation there. But when you die, you use up all the karma.

And you go down. Okay? So, this is from sutra.

LAYAN LTUNG BAR GYUR You will fall. ZHES PA LTAR GSUM MED LTA BU'I THAM BU'I RGYAS BYAS KHYAD SONG SANGS PA'I ZHIG CHUNG BA LAS DING DZIN LA NYAM PAR BZHAG NAS SKABS PA MANG PO SONG THAR You can stay there for many years. CI BA'I TSE GNAS DBANG MA LTUNG BA'I But when you die, you fall down.

GNAS DBANG MA THOB PA'I SDUG BSNGAL You have the special suffering you cannot stay there. It's like the Dusit Thani Hotel in Thailand.

[Speaker 2]
Okay?

[Speaker 1]
It's very nice to visit here. But I don't know about you, but I don't have enough money to stay here all the time. It's too expensive.

Okay? Their world is the same. Okay, you can visit there.

You can stay for some time, but you are spending a lot of money. Then someday they will kick you out of the hotel. I stayed in a hotel in Beijing.

What's it called? World ... World Trade ...

World Trade Center? Something ... World Trade Hotel.

You know, on the top. And big, beautiful room, you know. Stanley asked me, Do you like the room, Geshe-la?

I'm like, yeah. If I have this room, I can stay in Beijing. He's like, forget it, Geshe-la.

Because we can only afford one night. Okay? It's the same, okay?

The God's body. Demon's body. Nice, but we cannot stay there.

Too expensive. LHA'ER RTEN DE LA NGAR ZAG PAS ZINNAM SOGS PA MED PAS They used up their old karma. They are not making new karma.

So, obviously, they have to fall down. Okay. PHOS NAS, ROG DU SKYE BA'I NGAR NGAR SOGS PA RTOGS PA'I SHES RIGS KYI RGYUD Now, special problem.

While you are in the top floor of the Beijing hotel, you are not making new good seeds. And, in those places, they never meditate about kongshin. And they never meditate about what did I do in my past life to plant the seed.

These two meditations, they don't have. They just have the first eight meditations. So, they are not thinking about kongshin.

And they are not thinking about cause and effect. They are not thinking about past life. Because they spent so many years in that place, they forget about kongshin.

And after they fall down, it's very difficult to find a teacher again. They killed all their kongshin seeds. They killed all their dependent origination seeds.

They got the habit of not thinking about it. So, that's a special problem they have. After they die, they go to a bad place.

But also, they can't remember about kongshin. And they can't remember about dependent origination. If that kind of person comes to this room, and Geshe-la teaches level nine, they will be bored or they will fall asleep.

They don't have a karma to hear about kongshin. Okay? Understand?

They have special obstacles in the mind. So, just watching your breath all day, it has two problems. Number one, no content.

Number two, you get used to no content. And it becomes a habit. Then when someone tries to teach you kongshin, or cause and effect, you don't hear it.

Okay? It's not interesting. Okay?

Cool? Not cool. Okay.

,RGA SHI NI BSLAM LDAN GYI NGOS SHING LA THAR PA GRU NAS, Then there's another problem. If you spend your whole life just watching your breath, then you will reach some kind of cool meditation. When I cut my finger, when they sew it up, first they put some injection, right?

Then he's sewing it, you know? Then he said, does it hurt? I'm like, no, feels great.

It's a special medicine, right? You don't feel anything. It's like you are like drug, like in the teeth, they put it in your teeth.

If you do the first eight levels of the lion's dance, and you don't do number nine, it's like your mind got injected. And it feels pretty good. Okay?

It's like you drink a lot of beer or something. Okay? Then there's a problem with this meditation.

You say, how do you feel? You see? How do you feel?

How do you feel? I feel pretty cool. I think I reached Nirvana.

Okay? Really. I watched my breath many years.

Now my mind is like so smooth. Feels like injection in my mind. No problem.

Just peaceful. Like that. I think this is Nirvana.

Okay? Then while you are doing this Nirvana injection, you are getting older. Okay?

Every breath of the breath meditation, you are a little bit older. And the breath will finish. Okay?

The breath you are watching will finish. While you are in this kind of drug injection meditation, you're just watching your breath. Those breaths are expensive.

Each breath is expensive. Each breath you are using up karma. When you are born, they give you, I don't know, one million breaths.

Then you start to use it. Then your breath account goes down. So, if you spend a lot of time watching your breath, you can watch the account go down and down.

And you are not making new account. Then you will die. So, that's a sad thing.

That's a bad thing. But there's a special problem. As the breath account starts to go down, and suddenly you realize you're going to die, and that mental anesthesia, then suddenly at the end of your life, oh, I made a mistake.

Oh, this is not nirvana. I made a mistake. This is just breathing.

And the breathing will finish. Oh, I made a big mistake. Then a bad thought will come into mind.

I think there is no nirvana. Okay, now I don't believe nirvana. I should have just had fun in my life.

I shouldn't have wasted my time meditating. So, those devas have a special bad karma. Oh, there's no nirvana.

Okay, this is not nirvana. There is no nirvana. So, they usually have this special bad karma.

It's a very special bad karma. Okay, I'm going to go about five more minutes. Then I'm going to try to give you a mini break.

Shao shao de shu shi. Okay, five minutes. I'm just experiment to see if you can come back in five or ten minutes.

Okay, little mini pee-pee. Mini stretch delay. If you don't come back on time, tomorrow I will not take a mini break.

Okay, up to you. Okay, let's do it now. Come back in ten minutes.

Ten-thirty. Ten-twenty. Ten-twenty-two.

Okay. Let's continue the book. We just have a few minutes.

We have about half an hour. de chir de kye kyang ne kam kyi gong kor tabu le nyangway sangkha na dukpa dang kye pa me pe So, to become one of those superheroes, he says, it's the same as being in the hell. It's not much different.

During the time you are there, you forget all the kong shing you ever heard. You forget all the dependent origination you ever heard. Even if Geshe-la taught you the pen five thousand times, you forget.

So, dangerous place to be born. And this teacher who taught this teaching, he said, much more powerful... You have a rosary?

Anybody have a rosary? Just with short, in the last minute. Custom.

Short, short. Ren ba, ren ba, ren, ren. Aiya!

So, your grandma... Okay, many grandma like to do Mani. Mani, pe, mu, mu, mu, mani, pe, mu, mu, mani, pe, mu, mu, mani, pe, mu, mu, mu.

Okay? Okay. Who's more powerful?

Iron man or grandma? Change. Grandma.

They say grandma. Grandma. Why?

Iron man making, spending karma. He's losing karma. Grandma's making karma.

Understand? Grandma's more powerful. Okay, so don't think I want to go there.

I want to be Iron Man. You want Iron Man? Look at your grandma.

She's a real Iron Man. This one. Just jo.

She's doing jo. She's more powerful than Iron Man. He said, this book said.

Cool? See? Okay.

Then I put a picture in your reading. What is that? Wait, I need it back.

Nowadays in America, the yoga teacher, they always wear this thing, you know? Then, all the time. Then I never saw them use it.

It's like a fashion statement, you know? Right? Use it.

Okay, once in a while. Or don't wear it. Okay?

Not for fashion. It's for jo. At least OM MANI PADME HUM.

Very deep. Very, very deep mantra. It sounds simple.

Padme means lotus. Mani means diamond. Okay?

The diamond is in the lotus. Okay? Very big meaning.

Kong Xing is in the dependent origination. Okay? When we think about our past life, that's like the lotus.

Padme. Okay? When we think there's nothing about my teacher which didn't come from me.

You cannot find anything about your teacher which did not come from yourself. That's a very high kong xing. I'll say it again.

Okay? So far in the lion's dance we learned that teacher is like a pen. Okay?

Karma is opening in my mind. Seed is opening in my mind. Pen picture is coming out.

Okay? Same with the teacher. Okay?

Everything nice about the teacher. My teacher likes to help people. All the time.

She's helping people right now. Then, you know, why I see teacher like that? Come from me.

Come from my seed. Okay? What percent of teacher come from you?

50%? 75%? 80%?

100%? Good. What percent of teacher don't come from you?

That's kong xing. That's very high kong xing. That's zero.

It's a very high kong xing. Okay? So, when you do om mani padme hung, the lotus means the teacher come from me.

The diamond in the lotus, mani padme. Mani padme. Padma means lotus.

Padme means in the lotus. Okay? Mani means diamond.

Okay? Mani in the padma. Padma represents teacher come from me.

Like flower. Okay? The seed of the flower is here.

The teacher is like flower. Okay? Come from me.

That's padma. Then mani. How ...

What percent teacher don't come from me? Nothing. Like clear, like diamond, empty.

Okay? If diamond is very clean, you cannot see the diamond. Okay?

That's why they call diamond in the lotus. Very deep meaning. I'll say it again.

The lotus is my teacher. What's the seed of the lotus? Oh, my past life, I was help many people.

In my past life, I teach kong xin. Now, this life, I meet a teacher. Grew out of the seed.

In my mind. And the teacher is like a lotus. Very beautiful.

Good smell. How much of that teacher don't come from me? Zero.

Zero is like diamond in the lotus. Okay? Understand?

So, don't just wear it. Okay? Like American yoga teacher.

Okay? Use it. OM MANI PADME HUM What's the OM?

OM has three parts. Say AH O M AH O M Then AH O M It's OM So, AH means AH means I want to act like Buddha. Then we...

It's connected to this chakra. So, AH means I want to act like my teacher. I want to act like Buddha.

O O means I want to talk like my teacher. I want to talk like Buddha. Okay, M This is supposed to be mind is here.

Not here. MA means I want to think like Buddha. I want to act like Buddha.

I want to talk like Buddha. I want to think like Buddha. Say fast.

I want to act like Buddha. I want to talk like Buddha. OM OM Okay, got it?

So, this is the traditional way to start a mantra. In the jing, OM is called go gen. Go gen means traditional first sound of the mantra.

OM means go gen. Go gen means traditional first sound of the mantra. It means OM, I want to act like Buddha.

OM, I want to talk like Buddha. OM, I want to think like Buddha. OM Money.

Nothing in my teacher don't come from me. OM Kongxing. Padme.

But my teacher is like a lotus. Come from my seed. Then I put the kongxing in the lotus.

OM, money, padme. Say OM. Money.

Padme. HUNG. Okay, HUNG is special.

We call SHI ZHUG. Okay, SHI ZHUG. ZHUG.

ZHUG. T-S-U-K. Good.

SHI ZHUG. Then maybe you heard when you build a temple, you have to have a special knife. We call Vajraputpa.

It's a special knife. And here is a diamond. Then you have to do a prayer and put the ...

Okay, it means here will be temple. Like that. Okay, it's called SHI ZHUG.

OM. Money. Padme.

HUNG. Like that. HUNG means like that's it.

I want to be like my Buddha. Act like Buddha. Talk like Buddha.

Think like Buddha. Buddha come from my seed. No part of Buddha don't come from my seed.

SHI ZHUG HUNG. Like HUNG. Like when you are a teenager and you go to your mom.

Mom, can I borrow the car? Why? I have date with my girlfriend.

You did it last week. You didn't come home on time. That's right mom, but can I borrow the car?

No. Please. No.

Please. No. Final word.

Okay, that's HUNG. Okay. OM.

Say OM. HUNG. Padme.

HUNG. It's remember your mom. Okay.

No, shut up. Go to the room. Okay, got it?

Better the person who do a few OM MANI PADME HUNG. More powerful than Iron Man. Okay, Iron Man is spending karma, not making new karma.

Okay, even your grandma. OM MANI PADME HUNG. She making more seed than Iron Man.

She is more powerful than Iron Man. Cool? Okay, let's do a little bit more.

,GAM SUM KHOR BA SHES DAG, ,JAG SRED KYI GOM PA CHOG CHUG, ,GANG DU'I PHYIN GYENG SDUG BSNGAL GYI SRED PAS, ,SNYING LA SRED GYENG RANG GI NANG TSUL DU SDUG PA, ,NAS NGAN BRTAN DANG KHYAMS PA'I NANG TSUL DU SKYO BA, So, it doesn't really matter where you go. On this planet, you live in China, you live in America, you have enough money to live in the Dussertani Hotel for the rest of your life. It doesn't matter.

It's all the same. Living in Africa, no money, no food, you are the same as the richest person in Beijing. Not much different.

Both have to get old. And then they lose ... Rich people have special suffering.

When they get old, cannot buy more time. Cannot buy more time. People come to my room, you know, Geshe-la, you want to hang out?

Right now, get out! Geshe-la, you're not very friendly. I don't have time.

Don't waste my time. You cannot give me more. I cannot buy more.

I want to use that time. If you want to waste your time, it's okay. But I know I cannot get more.

I will use it. Every minute, I will use it. And don't take my time.

If you take my money, take my hundred dollar bills, okay? But don't take my time. I cannot get more.

Nobody can get more. So, we are all the same. ,GZHAN GSUM PA LTAR, ,KHOR BA'ANG SDZIN NAS, ,THOB SRID ZIN NAS, ,NAR MED MAR PA'I GANG DU SKYES KYANG, ,CHAGS SREG GI GANG, ,THOB GRUB LDAN GYI RNAM DU, They're in the hell.

There's a special house. It's made of steel. The walls are steel.

The roof is steel. The floor is steel. And they put you inside.

Then they start to make it hot. You don't have clothes. You don't have shoes.

And the iron building is getting hotter and hotter. Finally, you are dancing. Because you cannot get out.

There was a guy caught in the war in the Middle East. He was flying an airplane for one of the governments. And he was bombing the other people.

Then the airplane fell down. Then the other people caught him. It was like two years ago.

And they put him in the small cage. Then they start fire underneath. Then they cook him to death.

His father heard he got caught. His father risked his life. He went there and said, Please don't hurt my son.

Then they said, Your son is bombing our people for many weeks. Go home. We will do what we want to do.

And they put him in a small iron cage. Then they put gasoline. Then they put the match.

And he was terribly dead. They made a movie. So, why I talk about such a strange thing?

We are the same. Right now. Same.

We are also in the cage. And the fire already started. And we will die in this cage.

Cannot escape. If you see Kongxing, can escape. But otherwise, no.

So, doesn't matter you live in a $5 million a year office in Beijing. Or expensive place in New York. Or you live in Africa with no food.

We are all in the cage. And we will all die. And after a lot of trouble.

Okay? Understand? No difference.

We are the same. Okay. We have 15 more minutes.

Let's use the time. So, this story ... I was lucky because I live with my teacher.

For 30 years. Very, very, very high lama. Then I said, can I live with you?

He said, no. Student is too much trouble. I said, please.

No. I said, I will do everything. I will cook.

I will clean the toilet. I will do the gardening. I will do everything.

I will also work. I will make money. And let me stay.

He said, okay, we will see. He said, okay, you can stay for like few weeks in the garage. This is where you put the car.

Smells bad. I sleep in the garage for one year. Very funny.

I said, okay, I want to stay with you. Then later he took me out of the garage. Put me in the house.

But I have teacher all the time. So, actually I got a good deal. He's teaching me all the time.

I'm his driver. Then we were driving, long drive. He said, I'm hungry.

I said, we can stop at the highway rest stop. When we came from Bangkok airport to here, we also stopped in the same place. Then there's an American junk food store, 7-Eleven.

Okay, they export here. All the worst thing they export to other countries. KFC, 10,000 KFC in China now.

They are making your children sick. That food make your children sick. Already came to Taiwan long time ago.

Already made Taiwan children sick. Now start in China. Don't let them eat there.

Worse than KFC is the 7-Eleven. Then my teacher is very wise. He eats very carefully.

I said, you can buy something in here. Then he walked through the store one by one. Check the package.

Then he said, nothing here. I said, there's a thousand things here. He look at me, he says, there's a one thing here.

Crap. In a different package. Crap, same crap in 1,000 different package.

Sugar. Grease. American farmer corn syrup.

Sugar. Sugar, sugar, sugar. He said, I cannot eat this stuff.

I said, there's many things to choose. 1,000 things. Means all the same crap, different package.

Why I talk about that? Hundred dollar question. I will give a hundred dollar, anyone give me a good answer.

But you have to raise your hand. Not you, your teacher. Why I talk about same crap in 1,000 different package?

Hundred dollar question. No, Rugo, you too, you're also half way teacher. This lady, with the glasses.

What? I know, but what's the meaning? Why I talk about it?

Just yell it. Come on, you have to work for a hundred dollar. We are all the same.

Yeah, good. Doesn't matter what country. Okay?

Doesn't matter what house. You ride Tesla or you ride a donkey. It doesn't matter.

Same crap in different package. This life crap everywhere. Person sit in a Tesla have to poop also.

Person sit on a donkey have to poop also. Okay, person sit inexpensive. Give her a hundred dollar, so good.

Who has? She will give. In this lifetime.

Yeah, so in the book here, it says same thing. It doesn't matter where you live. It doesn't matter you are rich or poor.

What color is your face? We are all in the same place. Every place in this world is the same crap in a different package.

Okay, understand? Just like American store. Don't go there.

Okay, all right. In the example in the jing, somebody gave their kids radish. Kid doesn't like radish.

Then the mom make a radish soup. Then the mom make a radish soup. This radish.

Mom mix a radish with sugar. That's a radish. Then mom make a radish bread.

Here, eat this. That's also radish. Same crap, different package.

Understand? That's the example in the jing. Okay, all right.

We still have a few minutes. So, different countries have a same suffering in a different house, different food, different way of life. But we are all dying.

We are all in the iron jail and someone put the fire. We are all the same. Then he said, okay, Nick, this is a good word for you.

Kitujjipa. Kitujjipa. Right there, yeah.

This is a very beautiful word. When you go to the monastery, you cannot walk into the monastery and I want to join the monastery. It's not allowed.

Someone has to sign for you. Okay. When you get to the monastery, someone has to take responsibility for you.

And they have to sign the paper. This young man will make a good monk. This young woman will make a good nun.

Someone has to take responsibility for you. And they have to sign. And then you get assigned to one of the twelve houses in our monastery.

Each house has about 200 members. So that house also has to sign. You know, we will give the food.

We will check his behavior. Then there's a ceremony and I remember it was very beautiful because I'm the wrong color. And then when I go, everybody's like, what's this guy?

Then I say, I have a signer. Geshe Losantachin. Okay, he will sign.

Do you have a house? Gelong Khamsen. My house, same as the writer of this book house.

We are the same house. Okay, somebody will sign. Then they go, Chi Chang.

Now you're in our monastery. Now you're a member of our monastery. Then they congratulate you.

You get a little party. Then they say, now you have to sign the book. Then you are Kido Chupa.

Kido Chupa. Khi means happy. Khipu Duk means I'm happy.

Duk means dungyel. What's that? Suffering.

Chikpa means one and the same. In France, there's a famous expression. One for all and all for one.

One for all and all for one. It's a special military group. If you get in that group, one for all, all for one.

If we don't have money, everybody hungry, ichi. If we don't have money, everybody eat equal. Okay, all for one.

All for one, one for all. In Buddhism, we call Kido Chupa. For a hundred dollars.

Why does it come here? Sure? Sure?

You're going to give me a hundred dollars? Okay, okay, come on. Not exactly.

It's true, but that's not why I come here. It's almost, almost. Try it.

You can't just be happy yourself while other people are suffering around you. That's true, but it's not exactly. We were just talking about what?

What were we just talking about? American junk food store. Now he said all for one, one for all.

If we don't see the appearance, everything are the same. Same crap, different package. If you don't see the appearance, everything are the same.

Not exactly. Okay, one more try and then I save a hundred dollars. Oh, so you take refuge and you make commitment that we do something together.

Okay, actually, kitu jikpa means, I join the monastery. If the monastery have money, I will eat. If the monastery don't have money, I will not eat.

In the monastery, if we don't have money, everyone will be hungry together. Even the abbot, he will also go hungry. So, we are equal.

Democracy. Doesn't matter high teacher or cook in the monastery. We get equal share.

It's not the big Lama gets more food, the little cook gets less food. It's a very strict democracy. Why did it come here?

We all get the same share of suffering. Okay, life will give us the same share of suffering. Rich people, poor people, smart people, stupid people, strong people, weak people, healthy people, people with cancer.

Democracy. Suffering democracy. Okay, we will all die equal.

Okay, we will all suffer equal. Okay, there's a democracy to our suffering. Okay, doesn't matter how important you are.

How much money you have. The poorest person in the worst job in Thailand is equal to the richest person in Beijing. It's a democracy.

Both will have hard life. Both will lose the people they love. In the end, both will lose all of their things.

And both will lose their life. Okay, kitu jikpa. We are equal.

Okay, cool? Okay, alright. Sidney.

Sidney going to do a ... Sidney Sainali. Come on.

How about when it comes to ... Jasmine. Okay, thank you.
