[Speaker 1] Okay, you ready? You guys ready? Okay, let's try again. Okay, here we go. You want music? Good luck. On the recording, wake you up. Harmony. So, please come. In this meditation, we don't have to use the breath to begin. We can go directly to the air conditioner sound. Glue your mind to the air conditioning sound. And then please come to the sound of your heartbeat. If the room is a little noisy, you can just feel your heartbeat. This is the first form realm level. The air conditioner is the desire realm. Second form realm level. Bring yourself inside the beating heart. And the heart is beating around you like a small room. Third form realm level. The heart is beating at a distance. Fourth form realm level. Imagine a single white grain of sugar in the middle of your heart. And go inside and meditate inside the crystal. First formless realm level. The mind is a deep and vast ocean with a very calm surface. Drop a small pebble in the middle and see the ripples going to no edges. Left and right. Formless realm level two. Endless awareness. And the mind expands. Past the sky of this planet. To outer space. And through the stars and planets. Sometimes it will overlap the expanding mind of other people on other worlds. Keep it going. Don't stop. Bigger and bigger. Larger and larger. More and more wide. Formless level number three. Called nothing at all. Chiang Mai. And just imagine that the mind is like a light switch. And just turn it off. If thoughts or feelings or images come in the mind, try to block them. Now Dushyamay Dushyamay means formless number four. Again, turn off the mind. But if thoughts come through the mind, don't fight them. Go to a quieter place. Not resisting the mind. Just turn it off. Now bring one of your teachers to mind. They come and sit in front of you. Full size. Not a picture. Real person. Warm and breathing and smells nice. And they are looking at you with love. Your eyes are closed, their eyes are open. Your eyes are closed, but their eyes are open. Now think of one quality about this teacher that you love. Now go to the center of your mind. See it like a small dark room, but a very pleasant dark room. And in the middle of the room, there's a small nest of silver seeds. And they are bright and shining, as if a light was shining on them from above. Beautiful silver seeds like fat rice grains. Six or seven. And now imagine that one of them cracks open. And out of it comes like a hologram or an image of the beautiful quality of your teacher. It looks like your teacher. It looks like the teacher and there's a strong feeling of that good quality in the hologram. And I like to imagine that the picture comes out of the seed. It travels to the back of my forehead. And then it goes out and it settles on my teacher like a blanket or a coat. And because of this covering of this luminous image, I see my teacher have this beautiful quality. And then another seed opens and another image comes out, same image, and coats my teacher. And because of that, I see this beautiful quality. And another seed opens and the image again comes, coming from me. Where did these seeds come from? Now we have fun. We're going to go to our past life. We can't see it directly. We cannot see our past life directly. But we can imagine. Maybe what happened in my past life, maybe a thousand years ago, I was a man or a woman. I was living in my country or another country. And I must have had that quality. I must have lived my life with that quality. So now make a movie in your mind. Use all the images you have seen in your life. Movies, books, music, everything, use it to make your movie. All the things you've experienced in your life and everything you can imagine, it's all coming from seeds also. It may not be a direct perception of your past life, but the seeds are certainly coming from your past life, of everything you can imagine. So make a beautiful movie. Make it very happy and positive. Get many details about how good you were, how much you served other people, and this created those silver seeds. We'll spend a little longer here. Don't stop making your movie. Make it more and more beautiful. Okay, here we go. Now please come back to your teacher. And respectfully ask them to please sit to the side and put a new teacher there. This teacher is not coming from my seeds. This teacher just came into my life by accident. I met them in a certain room or a certain place. I just met them by accident in a certain room or a certain place. And how they came to my place, they were born in my country. We were born in different places, and accidentally we met each other. And in the future, maybe we will separate. They will go their way, I will go my way. There's no connection from past life. They are not coming from my seeds. And maybe I won't have much connection with them in the future. There's no past life connection. There's no future destiny together. Just accidental, coming from their side. Just random atoms collecting together. Just accidental dust from the big explosion that made this universe. Sit with this fake teacher, who's not coming from you. And start to feel how wrong it feels. How could there be a big explosion? Billions of years ago, dust came out. This earth formed, this sun formed. Water formed on the earth. Fish came. One fish came up on the beach. Those fish became monkeys. Those monkeys became humans. And one of them I met in my life. Just dust. No past life together. No future destiny together. Feel that it's wrong. Now the most important part of the whole meditation. Cancel this fake teacher. They blink out of existence. Suddenly, they're gone. Where they were sitting, there's a space. Not a physical space. It's a space of impossible. No such person was ever here. There's an empty place where they cannot be. Try to put your mind inside this emptiness. You won't understand it right away. But keep practicing. Every day. Okay, let's go sit in that empty space in our mind. No fake teacher. No fake. Impossible. And there's an empty space where they are not. Put your mind in that space. Now respectfully ask the real teacher to come back. Who's coming from you. Sit with them for just a minute. And appreciate that they are real. They are coming from me. From my seeds. And our destiny is tied together. We spent many lifetimes together in the past. We will go into the future together. We will be enlightened in the same place. And we will be together for all time. In a Buddha paradise. With all my family and people I love. Even those who passed away. We will be together as Buddhas. Happy. Coming from real seeds. Which never finish. Then come back to the fourth formless realm level. Turn off the mind. No struggle. No fighting. Let images come and go. Third formless realm level. Mind is turned off but I'm fighting the images that come. Second formless realm level. Bring the light of the mind back from outer space back to this place. First formless realm. Bring those ripples in the ocean down to this place. Bring back to the center. Fourth form realm level. Come back into the grain of sugar. Third form realm level. The heart is beating at a distance. Second form realm level. I am inside the beating heart. First form realm level. I'm inside my body and I'm watching my heart beat. Now I imagine my exhale as a golden light. Which shares this wisdom and these seeds with all the people in this world. The breath coming out of my body is a golden light. And it spreads through the world like the smoke from the fire offering we did. It touches all people in this world. Eventually. And it brings them this wisdom and this practice. Knowledge of seeds. Knowledge of emptiness. Knowledge of Buddhahood destiny. Three deep exhales. Golden light. Slowly open your eyes. Take a stretch. We're going to take a ten minute break. Teachers, can you please come up to the front and answer questions about meditation or other things. And then I'm going to tell you a beautiful story from sutra. If you want to sign a book or take a photo, we can get a few people on this side. Okay. I'm going to do some lam rim because I have a plan for today. We have to finish a certain amount. But I'll take questions in the afternoon. And I'll sign books and photos until we're finished. Don't worry. If necessary, we do tonight. Okay. I will sleep in my bed and you can sit on the bed and we take a photo. No, after the class. So, don't worry. We'll finish everything. We are like a guy who's in the jail. But if we don't understand we are in the jail, we can't get out. And also, most people in the world, they feel like they're in a jail after they live for some time. But they feel that there's no escape. It's not possible to stop death. It's not possible to stop aging. So, first we have to have this vision in our mind. It's possible to escape. That's why we're here. You'll be able to escape. Do your lion's dance meditation. That level nine, the restaurant with the American breakfast, stopping meditation. Stop the wrong teacher. Go into that space. We will talk more about it in the special class today. From the first Panchen Lama. DE LA BRTZON RE SKYEN MA BSAM NA If you don't think about what's wrong with the prison, MIN SBYUNG BA, you don't think, Oh, I want to get out. If you think this life is pretty okay, you will not come to Lam Rim. You will be too busy. My friend who died last week, he was too busy to come to Machi Lam Rim. I don't know if he learned what to do after he died. But we shouldn't be like that. He was too busy. But the thing he was busy about is gone for him now. KHOR BA LAS THAMS CAD MED NA, THAR BA'I THABS LA MI BRTZON If we don't want to get out of the jail, we won't try to find a way to get out of the jail. THAMS CAD SKYE BA LA ZHIG RGYAL PA LAS There's some method how to get the desire to get out of the jail. SKYE BA LA ZHIG RGYAL PA LAS And then he quotes the 400 verses by Aryadeva. SKYE PA RNAM LA THOR BA'I RGYAL, NYAL BA DANG TSUNG JI SKYES RGYUN Wise people, they see normal human life as same as hell. They also want to get out of normal human life. Getting old, dying, losing everything. They see this like a lower birth. KHOR BA LA SKYE BA We have to learn to want to get out of the jail. DE LA KHOR BA'I SDUG BSNGAL TZAM DGOS We have to think about the suffering of this life. DE TZAM TSUL LA BDE'I SHES BSGOM NAS DANG BRTAN DROD YIN LA CHOS NI GYIS BSGOM NAS TZAM TSUL NYID GSUM PA LA'I ZHES There are two methods Buddha taught to learn to want to get out of the prison. The first one is called the Four Truths. The second one is called the Wheel of Life Teaching, the Twelve Links. CHOM LDAN DE'I KHYE'I THOB MA BAR NA ZER KHOR LO DANG PAS SKABS KHOR NGAG DE BSAM PA LA Then the first teaching that Buddha gave in Varanasi at Sarnath, at the Deer Park. And you can still go there and see it. Our Sanskrit Ancient Book Center is 45 minutes away. So you can visit both. Maybe someday we should go visit it together. Okay. Then in that place, Buddha taught the first five students. Their names are Kardinya, Ashvajit, Vaspa, Mahanaman, and Padrika. Now, they also did lion's dance meditation. And they were also trying to find out what did they do in their past life to plant the seed to meet the Buddha. And it's a very famous story. I really like this story. So, we're going to go on a detour. Golden Light Sutra. Very famous. And let's find out what happened in the past life. That the first five guys, they're called the five lucky guys. KHOR NGAG DE BSAM PO KHOR NGAG DE BSAM PO Yeah, five lucky guys. Okay, why are they lucky? What did they do in their past life? So, I like this story. Then, BYANG CHUB SEMS PA NI GZHAN LA PHAN PA'I PHYIR This is the tenth section of the sutra. And it talks about bodhisattvas even give up their life for other people. DE'I RGYUD DANG BZHIN NAS THI MA MED SHING ZHIN TU RGYAS PA'I YIN TE RNAM PAR NA SOGS SKYE BA'I ZHES RNAM PAR DANG This light that comes from Buddha's body. SA YID DU RNAM PAR MTHO BA THOB PA MED PA'I YOD SHES MTHONG BA DANG And this unstoppable wisdom. MTHONG GI BAR'OD RNAMS PA'I BYAMS DANG DE SKYE SLONG MTHONG GI YONGS SU KHOR BA STE There's a Buddha like that. It's our Buddha. And one day, he was surrounded by 1,000 monks. And they're in a country called, a place called Panchala. The country's called Panchala. And they used to just wander around like DCI teachers. Like Scott and Ari. Seiji. And they were walking through the forest. DE DE'I RGYOR BZHIN BYAMS LA THING RGA LUS PA DANG Then they saw a very kind of nice place like where we did the fire offering last night. And I think we have to give a thank you one more time to Venerable Cheng Chong. It's a lot of work. Then triple, triple work. This morning, she looks so fang song. Hi, Geshe-la. I said, are you drinking beer? No, I've finished the fire offering. Okay. So, they saw a beautiful place like that. Then Buddha was standing next to Ananda, walking next to Ananda. Then he said, this looks like a nice place to tell a story. So, you put down my ... there's a monk's seat. Put down my monk's seat here. Let's tell a story. Let's tell a story. Then they put down the mat. And they said, oh, you are the person who frees all living beings. You break them out of the jail. And please give us the nectar of your story. Then the Buddha sat down. Then he said a funny thing to them. Do you guys want to see the bones of a bodhisattva who really worked hard? Then they said, yeah! We want to see. We want to see this person. Bones. We want to see the bones. Then Buddha has this wheel mark on his palms and the soles of his feet. Then he went. Then he stepped on the ground. Then earthquake. And the ground opened up. And a stupa came out. Like this stupa we had yesterday. We're sending it today. We're donating it to Diamond Mountain by the way. We're donating it today. Then that stupa is big and it's made of gold and silver. Then Buddha said to Ananda, there's a little door on the bottom. Can you just open that little door? Then Ananda, of course he opened the door. Buddha said, what do you see inside? There's a little box made of gold and pearl and jewels. He said to Buddha, there's a golden box in there. Then Buddha said, maybe you can open it. Then Ananda opened the box. Inside there were some old bones. We call bleached white. They're very white. Then Ananda said to the Buddha, there's some white bones inside. He's like Sambal. Sound like Sambal. There's a white bone in there. Maybe it's a Sambal. Ananda. Then Buddha said, bring those bones over here. Then Ananda collect all the bones and he gave them to Buddha. Then Buddha put them between the monks and himself. Strange thing. Buddha stands up and he does three prostrations to the bones. These are the bones of a holy person. I have to prostrate. Then they asked him, you are like the highest being in the universe. Why are you prostrating to somebody else? Then he said, actually, these are special bones. These bones made me a Buddha. Okay? Cool story. He says Ananda, many lifetimes ago, there was a king called Big Wagon. Very powerful. He had three sons. Their names are Big Sound. Big Deva. Big Heart. Big Courage. Then they decided one day to go for a picnic in the forest. It was a very thick forest. It has like twelve different areas, each one deeper, deeper, deeper. Then the three sons, the three princes, they said, can we go deeper? King, you can stay here. Mom, you can stay here. Little princess, you can stay here. Us three, we want to see what's in the middle. Then the older brother, Big Sound, he told his two brothers, I'm a little worried about going deep into this forest. Because I heard there are some dangerous animals in here. Then the second son, Great Deva, he said, I'm not scared, let's go. My little brother, we used to surf a lot. Then he was very brave, and he moved to Hawaii to surf these big, big waves. Probably as big as this roof. He's my little brother, so when I visit him, I have to also go surfing. If the little brother is not afraid, the older brother has to say, I'm also not afraid. So exactly like that. Then the youngest brother, Great Heart, Great Courage, Great Heart, let's call him Great Heart. Great Heart. He said, I feel something cool here in this forest. Generally, Buddha said this forest is a good place to meditate. And I feel like something cool is going to happen in the forest. Okay, in America, on the television, they will start the story. They will start the story. Start. Then they will stop. And they will sell laundry soap on the TV. We're going to do that. Okay, so I asked Stanley I asked Stanley to give a small talk. 10 minutes. And we'll continue this story in the afternoon. Maybe he's going to sell you some soap. All right.
