[Speaker 1] Okay, so tonight we'll be studying some Kamalashila. Some of you heard the first part, and we're starting the second part. Some of you came to Diamond Mountain Retreat Center, and I taught the second part of Kamalashila there, but I didn't have time to finish. So, I thought I would continue from there. If you weren't in the first class or the second class, don't worry about it. Two and a half thousand years ago, Buddha knew you were going to miss the first class, and he knew it with his little finger. So, don't worry about it. [Speaker 2] Something beautiful coming for you. [Speaker 1] Then, Diamond Cutter Sutra is amazing. Very, very beautiful introduction to emptiness. I'll just tell you what we've done already. Of course, at the beginning of the Sutra, Buddha gets up in the morning, and he puts on his robes, and he goes to the nearby town, which is called Shravasti, and he asks for food. Then he comes home, and one of his students asks him a question. [Speaker 2] Of course, the student's name is very famous, Subhuti. [Speaker 1] And it's like, the question has three parts. How are we supposed to think? How are we supposed to focus on? [Speaker 2] And the whole Sutra is Buddha's answer. [Speaker 1] And we're going to study the explanation of the Sutra, given by Master Kamalashina. He lived about 1,250 years ago. He says you can divide this Sutra into several parts. In the first part, Subhuti asked his teacher, how should I spend my life? And Buddha said, you know, you should Nirvana-size everybody. So, Buddha made a new word. It means you should take everyone to Nirvana. In this case, Nirvana means Buddha. You should make them a Buddha. [Speaker 2] Okay? [Speaker 1] So, Master Kamalashina says, the first part of the Sutra, the purpose, is to tell us the most important thing we can do in our life is to be a bodhisattva. Okay? I talked about a bodhisattva this afternoon. Where were they? Hmm? Where were they? Where was the bodhisattva this afternoon? Yeah, they were reaching for the door. [Speaker 2] They were going to reach for the door. What were they thinking about? [Speaker 1] Virus, and the three glasses of water. Okay? That's bodhisattva. Okay, that person's going to bring everybody to Nirvana. Why? They're going to teach everybody the four steps. How? They are going to use the four steps themselves. The best teacher teaches by using the four steps themselves. They don't go around and say, tell everybody, you know, look, you can get a boyfriend. [Speaker 2] Just use the four steps. [Speaker 1] How come you don't have a boyfriend? Okay? [Speaker 2] Best teacher used the four steps themselves. [Speaker 1] Get beautiful boyfriend. After that, people will ask you, how do you do that? They say, easy, four steps. Okay? So, real bodhisattva, they succeed themselves first. And then of course, other people want to copy them, and that starts a virus, and then the whole world changed. [Speaker 2] Okay? That's the goal of bodhisattva. [Speaker 1] Okay? [Speaker 2] So, if you want to be bodhisattva, use the four steps. [Speaker 1] Become successful outside and successful inside. [Speaker 2] Then other people will ask you, what are you doing? Cat, you look so happy! No, what are you doing? Then you say four steps. [Speaker 1] Best way to teach is by example and not by talking. Okay, so first part of this sutra, how to be a bodhisattva. Second part. Bodhisattva has six jobs. They are called six perfections. Number one, giving. Become expert in giving. You can give money, you can give love, you can give protection. Okay? These are different kinds of giving. Okay? Then there's a difference between giving and perfection of giving. Here's ... [Speaker 2] I will give. [Speaker 1] Okay? That's giving pen. [Speaker 2] Then perfection of giving. [Speaker 1] This pen coming from my seed. I like this pen. [Speaker 2] I want to have more. [Speaker 1] Okay? That's perfection of giving. [Speaker 2] Okay? [Speaker 1] It's different. I had long television interview yesterday and today. Big crew came from Taiwan. We had like, I don't know, five, six hours of interview. Then they asked me question. Why we see some people like to give things to other people? [Speaker 2] But they didn't make any money. You know? What's the problem? [Speaker 1] What do you think's the problem? Did they plant seed or not? [Speaker 2] Yeah, they planted seed. [Speaker 1] Where's the seed? It's stuck at the airport behind many other planes. Okay? It needs water. What's the water? Yeah. Coffee mingxiang. Just before you go to bed. Okay? So, first perfection, giving. What's the second one? Be a nice person. You know, don't hurt other people. Okay? Ten kinds of nice person. [Speaker 2] Protect life. [Speaker 1] You know? Protect the life of people. Protect the life of animals. Okay? Second, protect other people's things. You know? [Speaker 2] Don't hurt other people's things. [Speaker 1] Third one? Respect other people's partners. Don't hurt relationships. [Speaker 2] Next one? [Speaker 1] Always try to tell the truth. Next one? [Speaker 2] Try to bring people together. [Speaker 1] Okay? Oh, Stanley, this lady, she's really nice. You know? She wants to help you in China. Like that. Bring people ... [Speaker 2] make people friends. [Speaker 1] Next one? Say nice things to people. Lots of thank yous. Okay? Thank you for coming. Thank you for helping. Thank you for nice dance today. You know? Nice words. Then the next one, which is number seven. Yeah, talk about good things. Okay? Don't waste time. Oh, did you hear? She's fighting with her husband at night. Oh, what happened? He yelled at her, she yelled at him. You know? Did you hear this movie star got in trouble? Don't waste time. In your life, you only have a certain number of words. Words. [Speaker 2] There's a number. [Speaker 1] How many words you can say in one life? Okay? So, don't waste them. Okay? It's not endless. One day you will have to give back your rental car, and you won't be able to have more words. [Speaker 2] So, use them carefully. [Speaker 1] Say nice things. Talk about nice things. Okay, number eight. [Speaker 2] If you see someone succeed, then congratulate them. [Speaker 1] I'm happy you made some money. I'm happy you have such a handsome husband. Like that. Say nice ... When people get something, don't be jealous. Okay? Life is very short. People don't success much. [Speaker 2] When they succeed, they lose it anyway. Don't be jealous. [Speaker 1] Don't say, I'm unhappy you have a nice husband. [Speaker 2] Okay? [Speaker 1] Life is too short. Even if someone you don't like has a little success, congratulate them. Number nine. Never be happy that someone else had failure. Oh, did you hear? Your ex-husband had a car accident. Oh, really? That's very bad. I'm so sorry. Okay? That's number nine. Even if people you don't like have a problem, don't be happy. That thought in your mind, happy about a problem, it's a very powerful bad karma, and it will cause you a lot of trouble. Number ten. Just understand the pen. That's all. Okay? It's the most important one. If you have number ten, automatically you will do the first nine. Okay? That's the second perfection. [Speaker 2] Be nice to other people. [Speaker 1] What's the third perfection? Don't get upset. [Speaker 2] Don't get angry. [Speaker 1] Okay? I was ... I wanted to sit next to Geshe Michael, but somebody else sat there first. In the photograph. Then just calm down. Okay? We will come to Thailand many times. Yeah. Today Jasmine asked me, Geshe-la, should we come to the same hotel next year? Then luckily, finally, I had time to go swimming in the ocean. I said, I think so. He said, good hotel. Okay? So, don't worry, don't get upset about anything. [Speaker 2] Okay? There will be another time. [Speaker 1] What you want, you will get it. Okay? Never be upset at other people. [Speaker 2] If your husband call you phantom, we know, we all know, every husband is phantom. So, no need to say. Oh, Alison, I found out something. [Speaker 1] Sky is blue. [Speaker 2] Geshe-la, why you say everybody know? [Speaker 1] Everybody knows your husband is phantom. You don't have to say anything. But, those of you who don't know this word, I know three Chinese words. One is phantom. It means your head look like rice bucket. I discovered this word one day after Stanley got a haircut. [Speaker 2] Okay? [Speaker 1] So, don't get upset. Okay, Stanley? Just relax. Okay? Life is very short. You will live for billions of years. Everything you want, you will get. Okay? So, don't worry about it. It's like people who do yoga. [Speaker 2] Like this. [Speaker 1] Just relax. [Speaker 2] Okay? [Speaker 1] It's okay. [Speaker 2] Even in Lady Ruth's class, it doesn't help to go like this. [Speaker 1] She doesn't care. She will kill you more. So, bad things happen. Things we don't want happen. Okay? Just relax. [Speaker 2] Otherwise, you make new bad seed. [Speaker 1] Then she will come next time also. I hope you ... will you come again, Lady Ruth? You also try to relax in the class, okay? She has to try to relax also when teaching. Okay. So, that's the third perfection. [Speaker 2] What's the fourth perfection? Have fun. [Speaker 1] Okay? [Speaker 2] I don't care what translation you heard before. [Speaker 1] Fourth perfection. In Sanskrit, it's Virya. [Speaker 2] Virya. [Speaker 1] But the meaning is Tsongkhang Gyalatroa'o. Shantideva said Tsongkhang Gyalatroa'o. Fourth perfection is have fun when you're doing good things for other people. I really like how Jasmine is having fun. Is it difficult to do this program for 400 people? But she's not like this. [Speaker 2] She's like ... [Speaker 1] where are you? Please trust me. Where? [Speaker 2] Sayonara. [Speaker 1] Thank you again. Okay. So, that's the fourth perfection. Fifth perfection. Meditation. Easy. Okay. By the way, meditation, real meditation, should have a good object. Meditation without an object is not possible. Those people who think they are meditating about nothing, are meditating about nothing. What are you concentrating on? Empty my mind. [Speaker 2] You know, that's also a thing. [Speaker 1] Okay? So, meditation should have an object. The best object is your own heart teacher. Whoever is your teacher, your own heart teacher, their face is the best object. [Speaker 2] Okay? [Speaker 1] They are Buddha jewel, Dharma jewel, Sangha jewel, all in one package. So, find your heart teacher who fits you like jeans. Okay? If you have trouble finding them, use four steps. [Speaker 2] Help someone else to find their teacher. Easy. Okay? [Speaker 1] Don't find a teacher, plant a teacher. Many people told me, Geshe-la, I'm going to India. I have to find teacher. And I'm ... of course I have to be polite. I'm like, oh good. In my mind, I'm thinking, they will only find diarrhea. Then, if the person is very intelligent, I will tell them, if you put the honey, the bee will come to you. If you live in Moscow, or, I don't know, you live in Ho Chi Minh, don't go looking for some teacher in another country. [Speaker 2] Put the honey up, and the bee will come. [Speaker 1] What's the honey? Good seeds. Help other person to find their teacher. [Speaker 2] Then the teacher will come to you. [Speaker 1] Much cheaper. Okay, last perfection, just to understand the pen. Easy. So, the second part of the Diamond Cutter Sutra is six perfections. Buddha said something very strange to Subuddhi. When you give something to somebody, don't think that person is not ... sorry, you must remember that person is coming from you. [Speaker 2] When you are nice to people, remember they are coming from you. [Speaker 1] When you don't get upset, remember the thing that make you upset is coming from you. When you are doing your practice, be happy. [Speaker 2] Understand that practice is coming from your seeds. [Speaker 1] If you have trouble meditating, when you close your eyes, you only see youtiao, donut. [Speaker 2] Then plant different seed. Just relax, plant a different seed. [Speaker 1] Okay? Then you are doing it with emptiness. Okay, third part. Buddha tried to get Subuddhi excited about getting a Buddha's body. And we finished that part. In that part, we explained all the signs of a Buddha. [Speaker 2] Why? [Speaker 1] Why did we explain the signs of the Buddha during that part? Yeah, good. [Speaker 2] Actually, Buddha said, if you have those signs, are you Buddha? [Speaker 1] And Subuddhi said, no. This afternoon we said, the meaning of the word sign is it's a sign that you're a Buddha. [Speaker 2] So if you have those signs, you should be Buddha. [Speaker 1] This is the important idea, okay? I know it's late. I know you're tired. You spent many days here. You're probably ... half of what I said is ... you're like, I don't understand. But now I'll tell you another thing you understand. This cup. Okay, then in Buddhism we say, if you have a handle, have this handle, and if you have the top, and if you have the sides, and if you have the bottom, then is it a cup? [Speaker 2] These are all the signs of a cup. Top is round. [Speaker 1] This is a good handle size. [Speaker 2] It has the sides, and it has a good bottom. [Speaker 1] So, do all those signs, do they make a cup? Not yet. Somebody said not yet. [Speaker 2] Very nice answer. Okay, not yet. We need one more part. [Speaker 1] Yeah, he said, the seed must open in your mind. [Speaker 2] Picture of cup must come out. [Speaker 1] The karma seed glues the thing together. [Speaker 2] The karma seed, it glues all the parts together. [Speaker 1] Without the karma seed, this is not a cup. [Speaker 2] It's just a round thing, and long thing, and white. [Speaker 1] But it's not a cup. I'll tell you something interesting. Your eye, in the back of your eye, there are special cells. They can only show color or no color. Your eye, the skin in your eye, it doesn't have power to decide, oh this is a cup. Okay? The eye can only do one thing. It can only detect colors and shapes. Okay, watch. [Speaker 2] Eyes are closed. [Speaker 1] Eyes open. Hello, brain? This is eye. Mr. Brain? This is the eye, I'm calling. What's going on? We have an object, we have an object. What is it? [Speaker 2] I'm just the eye, I don't decide what's the object. [Speaker 1] I just see color, see shape. [Speaker 2] Okay, I forgot, that's my job. [Speaker 1] What kind of color you got? It's a white color. [Speaker 2] Okay, could be a white elephant. [Speaker 1] No, no, too small. What kind of shapes you got? Well, there's a round on top. Oh, could be Geshe Michael's head. No, no, it's smaller than that. Oh, the side is straight. I know, it's a cup. How did brain decide it's a cup? [Speaker 2] Picture jump into the mind. From where? [Speaker 1] Seed. Karmic seed. Open. Picture of cup come out. [Speaker 2] Who put the seed there? [Speaker 1] I did. [Speaker 2] Who made the seed for this cup of tea? I did. Why did Xiaoping give me some tea? [Speaker 1] Because I made tea for my lama seven times a day for 25 years. I have a few seeds for tea. Okay? So, now open eyes again. We have something here brain. What is it? I don't know, some gold things. There's a bump in the middle. On the head there's some bump also. And when this thing open, there's some circle. That's a Buddha. Okay? Those are Buddha signs. How did the brain decide that's a Buddha? [Speaker 2] Picture open. Seed open. [Speaker 1] Buddha picture came out. Why? I don't know, maybe I went to the temple and respect the Buddha picture. [Speaker 2] Then I plant that seed. [Speaker 1] Okay, understand? So, in the Jingang Jing, Buddha said, if your eye sees the sign of Buddha, do you have a Buddha? [Speaker 2] Not yet. Not yet. You need the seed open. Picture come out. Then the Buddha is complete. Big philosophy question. [Speaker 1] Is a thing equal to the sum of its parts? If you have all the parts of a car. Is there a car? Car. No, not yet. If you gave people a ride in your car in the past, the last part of the car will come out of your mind. [Speaker 2] Picture. [Speaker 1] Picture of a car. Then you have a car. Okay, now we're ready to start the sutra. [Speaker 2] So, I'm going to read the sutra to you because it's good luck. [Speaker 1] It will put a good seed in your mind, for many lifetimes. Chomde de kyi ... we're in the middle of the sutra. Chomde de kyi katselpa, the Buddha said, rabjor. Rabjor is the Tibetan word for subhuti. Subhuti is the name of the student of the Buddha. [Speaker 2] He's the star of this sutra, because he asked a question. [Speaker 1] Okay, by the way, if you want to check, we're on number ... I don't have a number. [Speaker 2] It's fine, Geshe, it's fine. [Speaker 1] Okay. DG NYAM DU SEMS. What do you think, Subhuti? RIGS KYI PHUNG'AM, RIGS KYI PHUNG MO GANG LA LA ZHIG GIS, STONG GSUM GYI STONG CHEN PO'I JI LTEN GYI GANG STE, RIGS PA CHEN NA, DUN GYIS RAB TU KHAR BAR BYAS TE, CHEN PO'I CHEN NA. So, how many planets in the universe? We say, in this local galaxy, it's called STONG GSUM. STONG GSUM means like a billion planets. So, if some intelligent woman or man—Buddha said woman or man—if they take the seven kinds of jewels, and they cover 1 billion planets with those jewels, and they give it to a Buddha. Okay, so just think, if you cover this whole ... okay, I'll tell you a story. Buddha gave this teaching in a place called Jetavana. [Speaker 2] It's a garden. I finished this translation sitting in that garden, in Hindi. Okay? [Speaker 1] How did Buddha get to this garden? [Speaker 2] He had a sponsor. [Speaker 1] Probably that sponsor had a big credit card. Understand what I'm trying to remind you? We're going to start tonight. Okay? So, warm up your credit card. Then, he wants to buy this part to give to Lord Buddha. But the other guy didn't want to sell. Anantapindada. Nagarjuna. [Speaker 2] She forgot the name. [Speaker 1] Okay, it's okay, I did also. So, then the guy said, okay, listen, I don't want to sell this land. Then, the prince Jeta said, well, you see all this green grass? The land is about this big green grass, you know. He said, I will cover this ground in diamonds until you cannot see the green color below. Then, Anantapindada said, okay. So, he covered the whole ground in diamonds. [Speaker 2] And the sponsor gave this garden to Lord Buddha. [Speaker 1] So, he will have a place to teach the Diamond Cutter Sutra. Then, let's say it's not just one part. Let's say you cover Phuket with diamonds. [Speaker 2] No, no, no. [Speaker 1] Not just Phuket. [Speaker 2] Cover Thailand with diamonds. No, let's cover Asia with diamonds. [Speaker 1] Let's also cover the ocean. [Speaker 2] Okay, America also. South America. Cover whole world with diamonds. [Speaker 1] No, don't do one world, do a billion. I have a sponsor named Dr. Wu. I think he will say like that. Keshav, why cover one world? [Speaker 2] We can cover a billion worlds. [Speaker 1] Okay, okay. [Speaker 2] So, if you cover those worlds with diamond, and you offer to Buddha, then Buddha asks Subhuti, you think that's a pretty good seed? [Speaker 1] Then Subhuti says, chom dun de, mang lak so dewa shepa, mang lak so rikyapar rikyapuma, dey shi deri sunungyipuma, mang rikyedo. Yeah, I guess it would be a pretty good seed. Let's go to the next part. Then Subhuti said, it wouldn't be just a few good seeds. [Speaker 2] It would be like Himalaya mountains of good seeds. [Speaker 1] Then Buddha said, why? Asked Subhuti why. Here's Subhuti's answer. chom dun de, sunungyipumpo de ni, pumpo ma chipe le du te, because those mountains of good karma is not mountains of good karma. de na, therefore, de shin shekpe sunungyipumpo sunungyipumpo-o, that's why we call them mountains of good karma. Okay? So, let's review the question. Buddha said, if you cover a whole world with diamond, and give to Buddha, is it a good seed? Then Subhuti said, yes. Many pile of good seeds. Buddha said, why? Then Subhuti said, because it's not. Then he said something more strange. Because that's not mountains of good karma, that's why we can call it mountains of good karma. [Speaker 2] Let's make it simple. [Speaker 1] Is it good karma to give away the whole world covered with diamond? Yes. Why? [Speaker 2] Sorry. [Speaker 1] Because world covered with diamond is not world covered with diamond. That's why we can call it world covered with diamond. Okay? If you weren't confused yesterday, are you confused today? Okay, good. Let's go to Kamalashila's explanation. Then the Buddha says, I have another question for you Subhuti. If you took all of these billion planets, and covered them with diamond, and offer it to Buddha, or if you take Jingang Jing, and you take four lines of this book, and you share it with another person, which is more karma? Good karma. [Speaker 2] Yeah, just share it, four lines, with another person. [Speaker 1] Explain the pen to one person. More powerful karma than covering a billion planets with diamonds and offering to the Buddha. Okay, very famous. Why? If you just give diamonds to somebody, what can you get back? What's the first law of karma? If you give diamonds, you will get back some diamonds. Okay? If you give pizza, you will get back pizza. [Speaker 2] That's why I like to give pizza. Okay? If you give dharma, if you give emptiness to somebody, then what will come back? [Speaker 1] Yeah, you will understand emptiness. [Speaker 2] Okay? More powerful. [Speaker 1] Okay? [Speaker 2] What's it mean for us? [Speaker 1] You know? Should we stop using our credit card for dharma fund? No. [Speaker 2] That's okay, that's some good karma. [Speaker 1] But more important, in this class, much more important than giving money, is to give other people understanding. Especially of emptiness, because that can protect them even when they die. [Speaker 2] Okay? [Speaker 1] So, if you have a choice, make donation tonight on your credit card, or explain to some person outside about the pen. Which should you do? [Speaker 2] Both. [Speaker 1] Not both. [Speaker 2] If there's only time to do one. [Speaker 1] Yeah, teach the pen. Okay? And that's true for all the years that we will know each other in this life. Okay? [Speaker 2] You and me. [Speaker 1] All the years ahead, that we know each other. If you have a choice, give money to Geshe Michael's project, or share the pen with some reading club in Shanghai or something. [Speaker 2] Which is better? [Speaker 1] Yeah, share. Okay? Share what you learn with other people. Much more important than money. [Speaker 2] Okay? All right? [Speaker 1] Okay. Billion times more important. Okay? All right? So, when you think, oh, what's a Geshe Michael want? You know, project can survive without money. [Speaker 2] It's okay. [Speaker 1] It's more important you share with other people. Okay? All right. Now, we came to an important part. I'll teach you for a few minutes, then we'll take a break. Okay? I like this sutra. [Speaker 2] I'm also tired. [Speaker 1] I had to swim over many waves. No. But I like to teach it. That's why we call DCI Diamond Cutter Institute. This is my favorite teaching. [Speaker 2] Okay. [Speaker 1] In this section, we have to talk about a special idea. This mainly come from mind-only school. [Speaker 2] So, there are four great schools of Buddhism, from ancient India. [Speaker 1] Okay? And this idea here, it's very important to a school called mind-only school. Okay, so to understand this next part, because it's late, you're tired, I'm tired. Try to listen. Okay? So, I was in India many years ago. And our monastery at that time has one car for 3,000 monks. [Speaker 2] Okay. [Speaker 1] Then, 3,000 monks. Then we are driving the car. We are going to another monastery. We have to have debate, contest between two monasteries. Then I'm on the ... [Speaker 2] I'm on our team. [Speaker 1] So, we are driving in the car. [Speaker 2] My lama is the boss of the monastery. [Speaker 1] Then he's in the back. Then he said, Mike. He calls me Mike. Can you teach this monk how to drive the car? I said, when? He said, now. I said, well, you know, usually you have to practice at home a little bit. He said, no, no, you teach him now. Then India road is unbelievable. India has the highest accident rate in the world. What's number two? Thailand. Okay? What kills the most people in Thailand accident? [Speaker 2] Those little motorcycles. [Speaker 1] If you're in this class, now or in future years, I request don't rent one of Thailand motorcycle and drive around. You will go to Nirvana faster than us. Okay? Rent a taxi. Okay? Sit in the back. Don't sit in the front. Okay? No, accident rate here is very, very high. [Speaker 2] So, we're in Indian road. Small road. [Speaker 1] All dirt. On this side is a water ditch. And on this side, another water ditch. Okay? Then it's very skinny road. And there are pigs, cows, chickens, bicycles, you know? [Speaker 2] Then I stop the car. [Speaker 1] Lama said the monk had to drive, you know? Then I put him in the driver's seat, you know? [Speaker 2] I said, hold the rear. [Speaker 1] Okay, push the ... [Speaker 2] He's like, okay, I got it. [Speaker 1] I said, this is easy. I said, be careful, there's a chicken, you know? He said, what? She go like that. I'm like, whoa, don't do that. He's like, what? Okay? Okay, so, your life is like an Indian car. Okay? There are two dangers. Left side and right side. Okay? You can fall off here, or you can fall off here. Okay? What are the two dangers? First one, left side. Most people fall off this side. [Speaker 2] Just like, I don't know why my husband called me phantom. I didn't do anything. [Speaker 1] Okay? [Speaker 2] Husband coming this way. Husband come from husband. [Speaker 1] If you think that, you fell off one side. [Speaker 2] Okay? Left side. [Speaker 1] Okay? Nagarjuna called it, you have the problem of thinking that your husband exists. [Speaker 2] What's it mean? [Speaker 1] Exists from his side. Okay, of course he exists. Why? Someone have to call you phantom. Okay? He exists, but not this way. [Speaker 2] If you think that, you fell off this side. [Speaker 1] Okay? Then a few people, when they hear, oh, everything is emptiness, they're like, nothing exists. [Speaker 2] World is illusion. I'm so happy. [Speaker 1] Now I don't have to pay my credit card bill. Understand? Okay. That person, who think, oh, emptiness mean nothing is real, they fell off the other side. [Speaker 2] What? What? [Speaker 1] Okay, they fell off this side. [Speaker 2] Your life is like an Indian car. [Speaker 1] Okay? [Speaker 2] Difficult to stay in the middle. [Speaker 1] Why you think Buddha called middle way? [Speaker 2] Buddha said again and again, middle way. [Speaker 1] Is your husband coming from your husband? No. Oh, so he doesn't exist? [Speaker 2] No, I didn't say that. He exists, but coming from you. So, stay in the middle. Middle way. Husband exists, but he's coming from me. [Speaker 1] That's middle way. Why are we talking about this? Buddha told Sabuddhi, that good karma of giving those diamonds to Buddha doesn't exist. Then Buddha said, that's why we call them diamonds you gave to the Buddha. [Speaker 2] Those two statements by Buddha, they are supposed to give you the middle way. [Speaker 1] Okay? Does that karma come from its own side? No, but does it exist? Yes. Then you don't fall off this side. I'll say it again. [Speaker 2] Does the karma of giving diamonds to Buddha exist or not? [Speaker 1] Yes. Does it exist this way? No, nothing exists this way. Okay? So, if it doesn't exist this way, does it mean it doesn't exist? No, I didn't say that. It exists, but it's coming from you. This guy, mistake number one, everything's coming this way. Mistake number two, nothing exists. [Speaker 2] In real life, how do you use this information? [Speaker 1] Use it with your husband. Okay? When you come home, and your husband's in a bad mood, and he says, you're so stupid. Then don't fall off this way. Oh, husband want to call me stupid. Then you already made a big mistake. He didn't decide to call you stupid. You forced him to call you stupid. You made the seed. [Speaker 2] He doesn't have choice. If you make a bad seed, he has to call you phantom. It's your fault. So, don't make this mistake. [Speaker 1] Okay? [Speaker 2] What's the other mistake? Come in the kitchen, husband say, you're stupid. Geshe Michael say, everything emptiness. Husband doesn't exist. [Speaker 1] I don't have to make dinner ever again. Husband doesn't exist. Okay? Those are both mistakes. Okay? One kind of mistake, opposite kind of mistake. [Speaker 2] Stay in the middle. [Speaker 1] Okay, that's what the Buddha said. So, we're going to take a break. Okay, let's start. Okay, then Subhuti ... Subhuti asked the Buddha, why is it such a big karma to teach somebody just a little bit of Diamond Cutter Sutra? [Speaker 2] Why is it so much good karma? [Speaker 1] Then Buddha says, when you share what you know with other people, that's the cause of Buddha's Dharma body, Dharmakaya. Okay? So, you remember from your debate, Buddha has four bodies. First one, the body which Buddha has in their headquarters, in their Buddha Then that's a super beautiful body, everything perfect, all these signs, you know, wears beautiful clothes. [Speaker 2] Okay? [Speaker 1] That's like what they look like in their living room at home. Okay? Super beautiful. Then when they go outside to visit friends, that's the second body. We call it nirmanakaya, nirmanakaya. [Speaker 2] The body which they show on this planet. [Speaker 1] Then that body could look like anything. [Speaker 2] Okay? [Speaker 1] We said today, it could be the sound of the ocean, or the sound of a bird. Okay? [Speaker 2] Or however your teacher looks. [Speaker 1] So, that's how they look when they go outside. At home, they are in their pajamas. Okay? Just relax. When they go out, they have second body. So, sometimes the four bodies taught us two bodies. So, those four. The third one is Buddha's mind. [Speaker 2] Sees all things, in all worlds, and all time. [Speaker 1] The fourth one, kongshin, of the other three bodies. Okay? We have to talk about that. Okay? But, this is the essence of the Buddha. Do you have kongshin right now? Yes. Why? [Speaker 2] When you look at your arm, okay? [Speaker 1] Actually, it's just five sticks. Hello? Brain. Brain. We got a thing out here. Oh, what's it look like? [Speaker 2] It's a five sticks. [Speaker 1] I think it may be a tennis racket. No, no, there's a long thing underneath. Just look, eye, tell me the color, tell me the color. Oh, look just like arm color. That's a arm, stupid. Okay? Why the brain ... why did the brain understand this is the arm? Because at the same time that the eye is telling the brain what's here, a seed opened in the brain at the same time. [Speaker 2] And the arm came out. Okay? [Speaker 1] This thing here, what the eye sees, this is like a white movie screen. It's not an arm yet. Just like blank movie screen. [Speaker 2] Then my mind is playing a movie. Many seeds. And then it puts a picture on this. So, this and this, they're both the same. [Speaker 1] Kong. They're empty. From their side, they are like the husband who call you stupid. [Speaker 2] Okay? [Speaker 1] There are nothing yet. [Speaker 2] When the seed open in your mind, your husband start talking. When the seed open in your mind, you see pen. [Speaker 1] When the seed open in your mind, you see human arm. If you didn't hear the pen from me many times before, it's possible the old bad seeds in your mind would suddenly open. Then you look at the same thing, you see dog's arm, dog's leg. [Speaker 2] Stick is the same. [Speaker 1] Okay? [Speaker 2] Seed is different. Okay? Stick is the same. Seed is different. If a bad seed opens, you see dog's arm. [Speaker 1] And then you are a dog. Okay? You don't have to die. You don't have to go to a factory in South China where they make dog body. [Speaker 2] You don't have to go anywhere. Seed change. [Speaker 1] Okay? Good translation. Okay? That could happen in one minute. Okay? It's dangerous to die. Having seeds is more dangerous. [Speaker 2] Seeds is more dangerous. [Speaker 1] They can change in one minute. [Speaker 2] Okay? [Speaker 1] Then you see this as a dog arm. Why? There's no arm. It's just stick. Five pieces. Okay? There's no arm there. It's just a big stick and five little stick. If you have good seeds, you will see human hand. [Speaker 2] If you have bad seeds, you will see dog's hand. [Speaker 1] If you have very, very, very good seeds, you will see golden fingernails without going to the beauty shop. [Speaker 2] Then you are Buddha. [Speaker 1] Now, if the arm was already an arm, there wouldn't be any room for Buddha's arm. [Speaker 2] If the human arm is coming this way, then I can't change it. [Speaker 1] Don't be human arm, please. I'm sorry, this is what I am. Then there won't be room to put a Buddha arm there. [Speaker 2] Because it's not coming this way, because it's coming from your seeds. Then it can change. If the seeds change. Okay? If the seeds change, this can become Buddha's arm. [Speaker 1] Why? Because by itself, it is kong. Okay? It's not human arm. It's not dog's leg. It's not Buddha's arm. By itself, it's empty. That part of the Buddha, you already have. You are already 25% Buddha. Yay! You already have emptiness, and after you become Buddha, you will still have it. Okay? So, there's one part of you which is already Buddha, and that's why we call that Tathagata Garbha. Tathagata Garbha. Tathagata Garbha. [Speaker 2] Tathagata means Buddha. [Speaker 1] Garbha means womb of a woman. Okay? The womb of a woman. [Speaker 2] In Tibetan? [Speaker 1] Sanskrit. [Speaker 2] Garbha. [Speaker 1] It means seed to become Buddha, and you already have it. Okay? It's emptiness. So, the fourth body of a Buddha is emptiness. Okay? [Speaker 2] So now we have four bodies. [Speaker 1] The one that they stay in their pajamas at home. Okay? Very sexy. [Speaker 2] Okay? [Speaker 1] Buddha in ... [Speaker 2] like Amitabha. [Speaker 1] Okay? Then second one looks like human. Comes to this world. Okay? Why? If real Buddha came to this world, you know, all the newspapers will go crazy. Probably the governments will catch him. [Speaker 2] You know? [Speaker 1] So, the second body supposed to look normal. [Speaker 2] Normal person. [Speaker 1] Okay? Those two bodies together is called physical bodies of the Buddha. So, sometimes we can talk about two bodies. This one is ... these two we call the physical body. And these two, the mind of the Buddha and the emptiness of the Buddha, which belongs to these three. Okay? Got it? We'll talk about it tomorrow. Okay? These two together, these are called dharmakaya. Dharma body. Why are we talking about that? The way to get the Dharma body is to teach somebody even just four lines from Jingangjing. [Speaker 2] Then you can get this body. [Speaker 1] Dharma body. So, really in the Jingangjing, in this verse, Subuddhi is asking a Buddha, I like your dharmakaya. It's so cool. Know everything in the universe. You know? And see all emptiness everywhere. [Speaker 2] I like that body, you know? How do you get that one? [Speaker 1] Then Buddha's answer, teach other people what you understand. Okay? [Speaker 2] If you understand 10%, teach 10%. If you understand 50%, teach 50%. [Speaker 1] You don't have to wait until you understand 100%. Because then you're already a Buddha, you don't need Buddha seed. The Buddha said very clearly, what percent you understand from Phuket, Thailand, when you get home to Austria or Moscow or Shanghai, share with other people. [Speaker 2] In a nice way. Sweetly. Not fanatic. Oh, Xiao Ping, you must accept everything emptiness. [Speaker 1] Then your friends will say, oh, what did you eat in Thailand? How to share? You know, you're talking with your friend. She said, well, what did you do in Thailand? Oh, we had some nice class. Swimming in the ocean is almost better than the class. Then you ask your friend, you know? What did you do while I was gone? Oh, I should have gone to Thailand, you know? Why? Oh, I had a big fight with my husband. What happened? He called me fan-pong. You say, oh, I know what to do. [Speaker 2] Then share. [Speaker 1] Just between friends. Not like this, you know? Just calm. I have a little suggestion. [Speaker 2] Let's talk about this thing, okay? [Speaker 1] How cool if you share the pen with another person, and because of that, after they die, they cannot go down, okay? It takes ten minutes, you know? In ten minutes, you can protect the other person. You become sangga jewel, okay? You are protecting your friend. So, many, many times I do interview. [Speaker 2] Last two days, like six hours. [Speaker 1] I don't care what's their question, first question, you know? Just before I came, I flew to Los Angeles. We did an interview. The lady ... it's a television interview. She said, so, you wrote a new book. I said, yes. She said, it's about how China and America can have good relations. [Speaker 2] I said, yeah. [Speaker 1] She said, you know, can you tell us what's the international relation between China and America, you know? [Speaker 2] I said, oh, that reminds me about the pen. [Speaker 1] Then I start to talk about the pen. Why? Maybe ten thousand people are watching, you know? I can keep ten thousand people out of dog body. So, every interview question I get, they say, you know, what do you think about management of big companies? [Speaker 2] I said, that reminds me of the pen. [Speaker 1] Okay? [Speaker 2] That's sharing with other people. [Speaker 1] We're going to stop there. [Speaker 2] We have two last things.
