[Speaker 1] We're going to do an experiment to see if you can meditate after that. Ready? Go straight into the crystal. All right, get ready. Clear your throat. [Speaker 2] Try to smile a little bit. [Speaker 1] Relax your forehead. [Speaker 2] Relax your eyes. Come to your breath. Then we're going to go directly to the white light, so everything's dark. And you're looking at the horizon and there's a white light spreading there. The white light spreads above you and around you. Then there's a... Keep walking towards the horizon until there's a red light that fills the sky all around you. You walk through the red light and then everything is darkness, black. And you go deeper in the darkness, more dark. And then more dark, more black. More dark. More dark. And then crystal. Nothing coming from its own side. We'll stay here for a few minutes. Think about emptiness. As much as you understand, think about emptiness. Then you come out of the crystal and it's dark. And then a red light, like the sunset, strong. And then a white light surrounding you. And from the white light you wake up into a new world. And there are people screaming at each other, struggling against each other. [Speaker 1] Any stone, any stick, or anything they can reach, they pick it up and they're hitting each other, trying to kill each other. [Speaker 2] Chaos. Huge, huge chamber, land. [Speaker 1] Thousands of people, hundreds of thousands of people trying to kill each other. Only thinking one thing, I have to kill the other person. [Speaker 2] Screaming. And then suddenly you see one saw you. You appeared there in a full body. [Speaker 1] And they open your eyes and someone's running at you with a large stone in their hand. And they just want to kill you. [Speaker 2] And they run to you and they hit you on the head and you feel this pain and you feel yourself dying. And you're unconscious. You fall down darkness. And then deep red. And then white. And then again you are aware and you open your eyes and you're in the same place again. People are screaming, trying to kill each other. Hundreds of thousands of people screaming. And you run. But someone hits you from behind with a stone. And you fall down black. Again black. And again red color all around you. And then white color. And you open your eyes to a different place. In front of you is a huge creature with the head of a bull. Horns and the face of a bull but the body of a human. Very tall. Much taller. Very strong. And they have a whip in one hand and the whip has fire on it. And they grab your arm and they drag you to a fire. On top of the fire is a metal plate bigger than your body. And they force you down on the metal. Red hot metal. And they hold you down. One holds you down and another comes and whips you. Whips your body with a whip of fire. And then your body is covered with lines, black lines from the whipping and blood. Then another creature with the head of a bull comes with an axe and starts to split your body along the lines using the axe to chop your body along the whipping lines. Chops your arm. Chops your leg. Chops your chest. Throws the parts around the fire. And again you're in black darkness. And then you're in a red color. And then white. And then you open your eyes and there's another very strong creature, human body, much taller than you with a bull's head. They are pushing you ahead of them with weapons, spears, swords, pushing you into a canyon between high mountains. And there are thousands of people and you are just one. They are pushing you in to the canyon. And then suddenly rocks start to fall from the mountains onto the people. Huge boulders start to fall. Mountains start to lean in towards each other. And the people are crushed. Everything is crushed. Bones, blood, skin, heads crushed. Huge pile of bodies bleeding. You are there. Everything's black. And then red. And then white. And then you open your eyes and again they are throwing you down on metal. Red-hot metal. You are screaming. They take you to a cage. They put you in a cage. Metal cage. And then they light fire all around you inside the cage. You are just burning. You cannot get out. And finally in the worst moment, before the blackness comes again, you just have one thought. Oh, may my Lama help me. You call your Lama. Please come. Call your Lama's name. That's a real mantra, right? You call their name. Help me. Please help me. And the fire begins to stop. The fire slowly disappears. And the cage opens. And you can step out. And you are in a beautiful green field on the side of a mountain. Beautiful trees of autumn. White tree trunks. Golden leaves. The wind and breeze is soft, calm. And the sunlight is coming down. Very beautiful rays of light touching the leaves, touching the grass. And your Lama sitting there in the grass. You sit with them. You will stay a few minutes just quiet with the Lama who took you out of the hell realms. And you ask the Lama to please bless you. And they smile. And their body starts to rise up in the air. And as it rises it gets smaller and smaller. And finally it's only the size of your hand. And then their body turns the other way around, facing the same way as you. And their body comes down slowly, softly on top of your head. And you can feel the warmth of their body. And they get smaller and smaller. About the size of your thumbnail. And they start to come down through your central channel, chong mai. Coming down slow like honey. And they come to your heart, inside your heart. And they start to get smaller and smaller until they are the size of a single grain of sugar in your heart. Is your teacher like a single grain of sugar? And they agree to stay there. And just make a small prayer that everyone should have a lama like this. And let's take three deep breaths. Please don't move. And you can slowly open your eyes. Take a stretch. [Speaker 1] Okay? So during your retreat, you will practice dying. Sometimes you can stop in the crystal. You try to think about emptiness. And try to change into a Buddhist diamond body. And then sometimes you can stay on the subway. And go to hell. In this case we went to the first three or four hells. And we're going to practice going there. And how it feels to be there. Because it's someplace we don't want to go. So we have to know what it's like so we can not go there. Alright? So I'm going to spend tonight reminding you of the different hells. I'm just going to do a few of them that are in your meditation. [Speaker 2] Okay? [Speaker 1] So I'm going to start on page three. And I want you to practice. If you get stuck in a hell realm, the only thing you can do is ask your Lama for help. That's like emergency. So try to get off the subway. But if you can't, and you go to the hell, then the only way to get out is to ask your Lama for help. That's all you can remember. Okay? Alright. But never stay there. Never stop the meditation in the hell. Okay? Even if you're hungry for dinner, ask Lama, please come quickly. I need rice and vegetables. They will come quickly and take you out of the hell. Then you can go have dinner. But don't open your eyes while you're in the hell. Okay? Come out. Okay? It's bad luck to stay there. Okay? Alright. I'm going to just review with you that these are called the eight hot hells, actually. We said eight realms of hell, but these are the eight hot hells. Page three. What's the name of the first one? Get Back Up. Yeah, Get Back Up. Those of you who came to Guadalajara, you know about these places. But if you didn't come, I'm just going to review with you tonight. Then I'll take some questions. Okay? Here we go. In the first hot hell, which is called Get Back Up, it's not very... It's the easiest one. It's the lightest one. Okay? There's no hell guards. There's no being there who forces you to do something. There's nobody separate hell guards. People who are born there, the minute...By the way, somebody asked me, are you born in the hell as a kid, and then you grow up? No, you just appear there, finished body. You have finished body. Okay? Similar to this body. You just appear. And LEN YANG DE DBANG GIS, because of their bad karma, DER KHYAD PA'I SEMS CAN NAM, the beings there, PHAN TZUNG THO MA THAG, the minute they open their eyes and see another person, KHONG SGROL, they feel anger, very bad fen lu. And they want to LHAG TU CHUNG PHRAD, CHUN BYAR RGYAL NAS, they grab anything, like a cup or a vase, and they start to hit each other with it. KHYAD PA'I SEMS CAN NAM, CHUNG PHRAD KYI PHAN TZUNG NON DE, MYUR GYI BDUN PAR BSDUG STE, They actually cut their pieces off their bodies, each other's body. BSDUG STE, THAMS CAD RGYAL NAS, then everyone's dead. Everyone goes unconscious. BSDUG STE, THAMS CAD RGYAL NAS, BSDUG STE, THAMS CAD RGYAL NAS, Fall down. Then from the sky comes a sound, it says, get back up. And because of their karma, they have to get back up, and they start again. They start fighting again. So when you do this meditation, we have died many times, you have died many times. Many times something hit you, like a car, or somebody hit you with something, or you fell down the stairs, or something, and you remember this feeling of, we call it concussion, like boom. You remember from many lifetimes how it feels. Someone, some truck hits you, or person hits you, or bullet hits you, or something, boom, and you die. You fall down. It becomes black. Then I want you to go through the four, you see, emptinesses. You don't get to go to crystal. Black, then red, then white, reverse. And then when the whiteness comes, you open your eyes. And then you're in hell again. Okay. So you can stay in that hell, or you can go visit another one to get some more variety. There's eight hells, and I want you to practice what it feels like to be there. Not as a spectator, as a participant. You're not watching them fight each other. You want to fight. Okay. Let's review the other seven hot hells. And it sounds depressing, and it's crazy for a hundred or two hundred adults from different countries to get together and talk about hitting each other with rocks. It feels crazy, right? If the newspapers came here tonight, they would have a very good time. You know, cult leader teaches hitting on head with rocks. You know. But we believe these places exist. And Christianity used to believe that. It's in the Christian books. But they don't want to talk about it anymore. Okay. So we're being brave, and we're talking about it. Because it's real. Because it's coming from you. Okay. In Buddhism, we say, it's real. Why? Because it's coming from you. Okay. Second one, called Thignac. Thignac means black lines. What happens there? They whip you. Okay. First of all, it says NYAL BA'I GSUM MA AWA LANG GO They have bull head. They have a pig's head. But very big. Like... What's that guy? Terminator. No. Transformer. Like, very big. You can't fight with them. No hope. SREG PA SOGS RGYUD PA'I NYAL BZUNG LAS KYANG RIGS LTA CHE BA They are big as mountains. Their eyes are red. And the minute they see you, they say, kill that one. Kill that one. RGYAL TSUL Then you feel frightened. You try to run. And they lay you down on your back, on like a big frying pan. The frying pan is like half a mile big. It has a fire underneath. And they push you down on your back. Then they use a big whip. And they whip your body. But the whip is hot. Like it's metal and it's hot. Red hot. So every time they hit you, it burns your skin. And they hit you in different places. Then comes other people with saws. And I guess you can use a chainsaw now. saws or axes or knives. And they are like cutting you along those lines. And they cut you into pieces. And they throw the pieces and the blood everywhere. And then unconscious for a while, they come back. All of them come back together and they do it again, over and over. So you have a choice. You can stay in hell number two and get cut up more times. But if you get tired, you can do the next hell. Which is called what? Yeah, gather and smash. This one is specifically related to killing animals for food. Number three. This one is specifically related to eating Khandaji, eating McDonald's. I heard a Tibetan Lama tell me one time, I don't make bad karma when I eat meat because I don't kill the cow. I don't go to the store with a knife and kill the cow. I'm just buying product. But Vasubandhu said, you are worse than the person who killed the cow. Because you are paying the person to kill the cow. So you are killing the cow and because of you another person is killing the cow. It's better you bring the cow into your house and kill it yourself. Don't go to McDonald's. Don't buy Khandaji. Bring the chicken to your house and be brave enough to kill it yourself. Then you don't make double bad karma. You only make one bad karma. So get chickens, pull out their feathers, twist their neck, stab them, and cook them. Then at least you don't cause bad karma for other people. You can get all the bad karma yourself. I told my brother, he wants to have steak. I said, I'll bring the cow, you kill it. I'll bring the cow in the kitchen. He's like, let's have macaroni. He believed I would do it. Okay. So you run into a canyon. In English we call box canyon. No way to go out. And the stones, mountains, the sides of the canyon smash you like this. That's why many human beings are afraid of small places. What do you call? Claustrophobia. You know, if you put them in a small car or you put them in a small closet, they go crazy. They get very anxious, very afraid. It's because they went to this hell many times. And some part of them remember. Okay. Okay, next one is called what? Screams. Okay. I'm sorry we have depressing part. Later it gets better. I'll give you some dessert. Okay. The hell of screams. What happens there? When you go through the white line, then you go through the red line. Sorry. Black, red, white. Then the white, you open your eyes. This is where they put you in a cage. I saw this. I heard about it. I didn't see it. But ISIS put a guy in a metal cage. He was a bomber pilot. He was dropping bombs on them. Then his plane fell down. Then they catch him. Then they put him in a cage, metal cage. Lock the door. Then they throw gasoline. Then they throw a match. And that's what screams feels like. Okay. They put you in a cage and they put gasoline and they light it. Then you're just in the fire. You cannot go anywhere. You cannot even touch the metal. You have to die there. Then you come again. That's... What's the next hell? Hot hell. Greater screams. It's just they put you in a cage inside a cage. And they throw twice as much gasoline. Double gasoline, double cage. And you scream more. You can't do anything else. Just scream. Next one is called what? Heat. So 2,000 years ago the most powerful country in the West was Italy, Rome. Roman Empire. And if you do something bad, when they kill you, they put you on a cross. And that sign is the killing machine. They nail your hands and they nail your feet and you die from asphyxiation. After five, six hours you cannot breathe anymore and you die. So you have to sit there. Birds come. And this was used for killing thousands of people. Sometimes it was used to kill 500 or 1,000 people at one time. And in this hell, it's a similar hell, but it's not a cross, it's a single pole. Okay? It's like one pole. And it's metal. And it's hot. It's red hot. And then they jam your body down on the pole. Spread your legs and jam your body down. And the tip comes up through your head. Okay? And then that metal stick is very hot and it cooks your liver, your stomach, your heart, and splits open and fire coming out of your mouth and your eyes. Okay? Like that. And you die like this. Then you come back again, and again, and again. So I want you to practice. Okay? You're supposed to feel like that. She's like this. That's the goal of this retreat. Okay? Okay? If you do a good job, I wanted you to come out of retreat like... Because after that we teach the three jewels. How to get protection from this thing. How to get insurance policy. You know? I don't want to go there. Can I get an insurance policy? Yes. What's the company name? Three Jewels Incorporated. Okay? Okay? Insurance company. Okay? Really. Honest. So by the end of the week I will teach you how to get an insurance policy. Really. Okay? And we have to talk about what is three jewels. What is going for refuge? You know? And that means insurance policy. Going for refuge means insurance policy. Can I get an insurance policy that I don't go to those places that I meditate for three days about? So if some people go crazy and they're running around the retreat valley without their clothes on, which happened, okay? Not here, in my Lama's place. It happened a few times. That's a good sign. If they really did a good meditation, I don't want to go there. Please don't do it. Michael Dunn doesn't like to pick up all those people. Okay? Alright. Alright. So that's called the hell of heat. Number seven, called the Rabdha Tower, ultimate heat. Just the same thing, but the metal stick is two times hotter, much hotter. And as soon as they stick you on this, they spread your legs and stick you on the stick, and then just immediately your skin dries up and your whole body dries up. It's just like veggie hot dog that you left on the fire. So me and Veronica, we like to eat veggie hot dogs. Sometimes we forget one on the fire. And then it looks like that. Okay? After about an hour. Okay. That's all. And then the worst one, right? Which is called marme avici. No break. No break there. More pain than all the other hells put together. And you are just like covered in fire. And it's difficult. If someone comes to that place and looks at you, it's difficult to say, where does Michael start and where does the fire end? You see? Cannot say. Not clear. You are wrapped in fire. And no relief. Not one minute less pain. And more pain than all the other hells. Alright. Isn't there any good news we can do? Let's do some questions. Okay? So, what I want you to do during the three days retreat, practice going there. You decide where you want to start. You want to start with an earthquake? Or you want to start with a mirage? Or you'd like to go straight to the black? You decide. Or maybe you want to go back to your deathbed. You know, body's getting cold. Or maybe you want to go back one day earlier and your friends are talking about who's going to get that nice dress that she has? I don't know. I want it. No, let me hide. And you can hear them talking about how to split up your stuff. Okay? Then they come to see you and they say, oh, you look so much better. I think you're going to get better. You can hear them in the other room there. Who gets the car? Who gets the clothes? You can go back to that. And then go ahead. Go forward. Through the five outer signs of death, to the four gross elements, to the four subtle elements, to the four signs. While you're in the fourth... Oh, then the four emptinesses. While you're in the fourth emptiness you can have fun with the four qualities of the emptiness. And then you can, you can stop there. You can stay in the emptiness, okay? Sometimes that's more fun. I suggest in the morning, in the morning meditation is the most clear. For most people, the morning meditation is most clear. So I suggest in the morning meditations you can stop in the crystal and try to understand it more, okay? You can stop there. Then in the afternoon, it's always a bad mood time for me. I'll go visit a hell, or two hells. And when I get really upset by the hell, I just ask my Lama, can you get me out of here? And they're like, okay. Don't forget to have Lama take you out, okay? Alright. I'd like to do, let's do the other four, okay? And then I promise I'll take questions, okay? You guys need a break? No? Okay. Okay. I'll give you a break in like 20 minutes, okay? Just a pee pee break, okay? So, these are called surrounding hells. So, you guys see momo pot? How to make momo? Dim sum? Dim sum? Dim sum. I'm expert to make. I made a video, but then my friends told me, Geshe-la, you cannot put a video of you making meat on YouTube. My Lama used to ask me to make. I didn't eat them. I mean, I stopped. But you chop the meat, and you make like this. Yeah. And the shape of the pot is round, and two or three pots. It can be bamboo. It can be metal. And the bottom one has a hot water, and it cooks all the dumplings. The hells look like that. The structure of the hells looks like that. It's a cylinder, and there are eight floors. Okay? Underground. Like underground parking. Okay? And then sometimes you can escape to the edge. You can reach the wall, and there's a door, and you want to go out. You think, oh, there's a door. I can get out. The pot has four doors. So you go to the door, but there's four more circles of hell. They're called surrounding hell. First one is called pit of fire. I'm going to get it for you. Number one. So the first circle outside the doors is... They do this in Arizona. They dig a big hole, then they put wood inside, and they make a fire. Then they get a whole cow, and they put it on a stick, and they cook it on top of the fire. It's a barbecue. So that pit full of red hot coals is what the first surrounding hell is like. It's called the pit of fire. So when you run on it, your leg falls in, into the ashes. And below is fire. Red hot fire. Then when you pick up your leg, it's already burned to bone. Only bone is left. And before you step again, the skin goes back. The foot goes back. Then you step again, burn again. Pick up, just bone. Step again, like that. And you are running. Because you can't go back, you can't go ahead. You just run. Like crazy person. That's the first surrounding hell. So sometimes during your retreat, you should practice going there. It's not difficult to imagine because you are just remembering a place you have been many times. It's easy for me to tell you what it looks like, because in your heart, you know. You've been there many times. Some part of you remembers. Second, then you come to a swamp, and it's filled with corpses, dead bodies. And it smells really bad. And you're like, okay, that's gross, but I want to escape. So you step into the water. Then there's a special piranha? Fish, piranha fish. They start to eat your leg. Then you can't go back, you can't go ahead. You just try to run. And these little fish with the metal teeth, they start to eat your leg. And it hurts a lot. That's the second one. Third one is kind of like this picture. It's a little bit like this picture. Page four. It's a hole like this desert covered with razor blades. But the razor blades are showing up. The blade shows up, and it's stuck in the ground very hard. So you are running on the razor blades. You are running on top of the razor blades. And they are all like this. So every time you put down your foot, it's cut with the razor blade. That hell has three parts. The razor blade is the first part. So the third hell, surrounding, has three parts. First part is the razor blades. Second part is called the sword forest. So after you run over the razor blades, you see some trees, and you say, I'll go relax under those trees. I finally got out of the hell. And you walk under the trees, and the leaves are swords, and they start falling down. And they just cut your hand off, cut your arm off, cut your face. My friend walked through a, what do you call, sliding glass door? By accident. And it broke. And one piece went and cut his nose off. Like that. And this is many, many falling pieces. Just cut fingers. That's the second part of the third, surrounding hell. Fourth part, you come to a, sorry, where is that? This is called shamali trees. You can say knife trunks, tree trunks made of knives. So you get to the tree. Who's the person in your family you love the most? Like Elena, your son, I think. So you hear your son's voice at the top of the tree. Come, Mama, help me. I need your help. And you try to climb the tree. And then suddenly there are knives in the tree facing down. And you have to fight your way. You hear your mother, or your father, or your son. It's like, Mama, help me. And you are fighting to go up to the knives. Then you get to the top and there's nobody there. Just some birds that like to poke at your eyes. Then you're like, I got to get down. Then all the knives go, they face up. They change up. Then you try to get down and they're cutting you. If you don't get down, these birds are attacking your eyes and your face. They have iron beaks. So that's the third surrounding hell. What's the fourth surrounding hell? This is all from Mexico. You guys heard it already. Then you come to a river that's called uncrossable river. When you step in it, it's like it's made of acid. The water is acid. And it just destroys your body. So, I didn't give you all the hells to do because you only have three days. I gave you the eight hot hells and I gave you the four surrounding hells connected to them. Okay? Happy? It's better to know you're in trouble than to not know you're in trouble. Right? Okay. Alright. Let's take a break. Okay? Ten minute break. Then come back, we have some easy questions and we go to bed. Maybe. Okay, let's do questions. We have about ten minutes. Hey! Take the microphone from your husband. Yeah, yeah. I have a question about the you mentioned well the crystal and so you said the first two parts of the crystal are the emptiness appears to you and then the second part is you perceive it as emptiness and people with the open teachings, so someone who's taught them the pen, someone who's been explained emptiness. But what about someone who hasn't been explained emptiness? Would they have the appearance of emptiness? [Speaker 2] Yeah. [Speaker 1] Emptiness will appear to them. So number one, I believe you can say number one happens to everybody. But they may not recognize it. That's why not everybody who died is an arya. No, that's a real question. So if emptiness comes to me during death, why am I not arya? And it means it's showing itself to you but you don't recognize it. So would it be safe to say to go to step number two you would have to have had someone explain it to you? Yeah. And you know, there are special people who like Einstein or Edison, Thomas Edison invented, I don't know, hundreds of things. Steve Jobs. So we say those people collected the seeds in their past life. We don't believe in good luck. We don't believe in accidents. We don't believe in someone understand without training. If it looks like they understand without training, it's because they were trained for 5,000 lives before that. Okay? Thank you. One more question maybe. I'm sweeping. Thank you so much Geshe Michael for teaching and especially for tantra and the fun stuff. It's not tantra. Maybe. So what happens with the bad seeds when you get a chance or you get off the subway? Good question. Okay. I need the real life. And I need your laser pointer. I'm still trying to take it home, Scott. So you lose it. [Speaker 2] Don't shoot me. [Speaker 1] Okay, thank you. Okay. How many of the twelve links are karmas? Two. Good. Nice. Which are they? Nyipa? Okay, this is sanskara, right? Fresh karma. You just had a fight with your partner. Okay? Here. You just planted the watermelon seed in March or April. Okay? Then number ten, which is what's the picture? Oh, what's this picture? What's this guy doing? Making pots. Fresh karma. New karma. Okay? Sanskara. Then this person here, link number ten. Yeah. She went to Khandaji a lot or she's pregnant. Pregnant. Okay? It means this is the watermelon seed in July. It's just about ready to open. Okay? It's got water. It's got heat. It's got time. And it's ready to open. Okay? What waters the seed? What is it that waters the seed? What makes the pregnant lady after the pot? What takes you from pot to pregnant lady? I need the whole wheel now. [Speaker 2] Yeah. [Speaker 1] Link number eight. What's going on here? Sorry. Link number eight and link number nine. These two. These two activate the karma. Okay? They make it ready to open. Alright? A lot of... They are like water or sunlight on this seed. This seed is not ready to open. Then water and sunlight comes and the seed is ready to open. If you jump off the subway, you still have these. But they never reach this. They just sit in your mind forever and they never open. Okay? Why? The water is gone and the sunlight is gone. What's the water and the sunlight? Things are coming this way and people are coming this way. Okay? If the seeds don't get that, they don't die. They just sit there underground forever and they never open. Buddhists are walking around with billions of old seeds. They're just sitting there. How big are they? All the seeds you ever collected in countless lifetimes will fit on the pin of a needle, the tip of a needle. Okay? No problem. How many seeds you got Mr. Buddha Gibson? Oh, I got about 10 zillion left over from when I was a person. What's happening with those seeds? Oh, they're like in the freezer. For how long? Forever. Are you going to get rid of them? No, you can't. You cannot break the law of karma. Are they going to open? No. Why? They didn't get sunlight. They didn't get water. So yeah, when you jump off the subway you still have all these bad seeds in your mind, but it's like a soccer ball in Russia. It's okay. It doesn't... It's okay. It's okay. No problem. No problem. There's one extra soccer ball in Russia. We can fit it. It's okay. Like that. Who cares? Nobody cares. All right? That's it. I'm going to stop there because this old man is sleepy. How about tomorrow? Mañana, mañana. Let's do tomorrow. It's time to go to bed. Thank you for your interest. It's fun to teach you. I've been waiting for you for a long time. All right.
