All right, Darshan Halm, buenos dias, dobryi utro, guten morgen? Guten morgen? We're going to start with the meditations, so please get ready to die.

Darshan Michael, turn off your cell phone. Make music. I don't know why, but the minute we start meditating, everyone starts coughing.

That's the plane that's going to crash into your temple. Okay, we're going to go through the preliminary practices, which is always a good way to start, especially the first meditation of the day. So, relax your mouth.

Hasso, can you please close the door? Relax your forehead, relax your eyelids, relax your fingers, and please come to your breath. Watch your breath, and please invite your heart teacher to come sit with you.

It could be someone who's passed away already. It could be someone you haven't met yet. You just imagine them.

It could be a historical teacher like Buddha, Jesus. Then think of something about this teacher which you would like to learn. Something they are that you would like to be.

Now offer your teacher something beautiful, whatever comes to your mind, that you think they would like. Now share with something, share something with your teacher that you're not happy that you did yesterday some mistake, hurt somebody, and purify that seed. And tell your teacher something good you saw somebody else do yesterday.

Then ask your teacher to keep teaching you. Ask them to stay in your life. And please slowly open your eyes.

Take a stretch. Let's do some long rim, and then we'll die, okay? After that.

Adam. Lodgya. Yeah, good.

Okay, here we go. Lodgya tong mangpo sattu ma chungway, je kung gi dunyel shin tu cheway thor. So, we're talking about those spirits, and they can go many hundreds of years, or thousands of years, and not find anything to eat or anything to drink.

Je kung gi dunyel. And they suffer hunger and thirst. Shin tu cheway thor.

Da du sattu nye du reway. But still they hope to find something, so they keep searching. They're always running, looking.

Tsul sar ma ching ka me la. Ma ching ka me. This is an idiom, Adam, for the dictionary, okay?

Ma ching ka me. Say ma ching. Ka.

Me. Ma ching ka me. Ma ching means don't go, and ka means...

Ka me means they don't have any choice but to go, okay? So, it's a special... In Tibetan you use the double negative.

Ma ching ka me. So, when you use ma with ka and then me, okay? Ma ching ka me.

They don't have any choice but to go. Song na lun yam chungway ngawa. Then their bodies are not very strong, so they feel very tired all the time.

Okay? They don't have energy, but they have to keep wandering, okay? You can see how some human beings have old seeds left over.

No, they just seem to wander all the time, and they're tired. It makes them tired, okay? Ngaway, shin je kye bu dak tong le drak te.

Then, sometimes they run into shin je kye bu... Shin je... What's shin je?

You guys know? It means... It's a synonym for yamataka, but...

What's je? Like je tsongkapa. Yeah, lord of...

shinpa means like a butcher. So, these are hell guards that they run into. They meet them.

And then, tong le drak te, and then they get very scared, and lose shikpa. This shikpa is the past tense of jikpa. Jikpa.

Yeah, they feel like their bodies have been torn apart, okay? Dissolved. shikpa tar tabu jikpa.

This jikpa is scared. With an S, it means scared. Without an S, it means destroyed, okay?

ya tsaway du su daway kyang sik la In the summer, even in the moonlight, they feel like they're burning, okay? It feels like they're burning. This sik is the same spelling as the word for word, but it means burned, okay?

sik tabu, sik la. gun drangway kap, when it's cold in the winter, nyi me kyang tra war chepay, even the sunlight makes them cold. Okay, they have a strange karma, okay?

It's like Scott and Arit with their air conditioners. Scott's like, turn up the air conditioning. Arit's like, turn it off.

Same temperature. Okay. tsar dang gi dung yin chen chen wa So they have a special karma to always feel hot or always feel cold, okay?

Now we've reached the part where they're going to talk about specific sufferings that some of them have, but others don't have. So, those sufferings we talked about before, all of them have hunger, thirst, hot, cold, fear, okay? One more.

Tired. Okay. nyi pa yi da so su du ngel sangpa la sum la'i So there are three different specific kinds of suffering they can have, okay?

chi drupa chen, chi drupa chen means, yeah, outer obstacles. Obstacles. No, this chen is possessing.

djun ching drupa chen dang, chu sok tong ne, gyal ring bor, nga wa chen bu, chin chin ne djun ching drupa chen means they see fruit trees that have nice fruits on them. Or chu sok, they see rivers or lakes. tong ne, gyal ring bor, from a distance.

nga wa chen bu, they have to work very hard to reach those trees and those water. chin chin ne, but when they get there, dram du lep na, dram means the shoreline of a lake or ocean. dram du lep na, de dak me par gyurwa, they disappear.

The trees disappear, the water disappears, okay? What famous ACI course is contained here? Nah, more famous than that.

Yeah, chun bap. What's it mean, chun bap? Bap means fall, patan.

Yeah, waterfall, okay? It's a teaching on emptiness. It's Neil Young.

Three beings are sitting around a table playing poker. A deity, a hell being, no, a yidak, a preta, and a human. Yeah, the glass of water.

In Tibetan you call it waterfall. In English we named it glass of water, okay? So, the human sees a glass of water, the preta sees a glass of pus, and the deva sees a glass of amrita, okay?

This is partly where it comes from, okay? chin chin ne, dram du lep na, de dak me par gyurwa. ga shi der lep na, but when some of them get to the trees with the fruit or they get to the water, kyi bu ko, tsun chen kyi, sung ne, long chu de mi der, people are standing there with kocha.

Kocha means, you got to be careful with G-O. Let's do a dictionary entry, okay? G-O can mean, ko can mean to understand.

It can mean to hear, ko gu du we. So, in modern Tibetan you say ko gu du we means do you hear? And then ha ko gu du we means did you understand?

But this ko means kocha, varma. It means armor, you know? Yeah, like armor, military armor, okay?

Kocha. Tsun means weapons. They have armor and they have weapons, okay?

What sun is very famous? Aya. Yeah.

Tsun je kor lo. Tsun je kor lo. Yeah, wheel of knives.

Okay, so they're standing there with swords and spears and they... sung means they protect the water or they protect the trees, meaning they don't allow the pretas to come. Long chu de mi der.

What's long chu? You're going to need to know it this week. Huh?

Yeah, long chu means to enjoy something. Or it can mean to enjoy the use of something. So, those are two different meanings, okay?

Adam, you should dictionary it. Long chu pa. Long chu can mean to enjoy something, like ice cream.

Or it can mean to use something, you know? What's the western continent called? Nu?

Balang? Balang chu. Yeah, same.

To use cattle, okay? So, long chu de mi der. This der means...

This we should do a dictionary entry also. Mi der. This der, satata tathagpatetar der, usually it means to give.

But here it means they don't allow, okay? All right. DE'I TSE PHRAD KHONG GI SDUG BSNGAL NGAR YOD THOG LUM NYAL BA DANG YID PHANGS PA'I SDUG BSNGAL BSAM GYI MI KHYAB See if this sounds familiar.

On top of PHRAD and GOM, GOM, on top of being thirsty and hungry, sorry, hungry and thirsty, which they were suffering from before they got to the trees. Okay? Now they have LUM NYAL BA.

LUM NYAL BA. They're tired because they had to run all the way to the trees. But there's a more important suffering.

YID PHANGS PA YID PHANGS PA Okay? YID PHANGS PA The monks know PHANGS PA. Yeah, it means to be defeated.

PHANGS PA PHANGS PA is the first set of vows. First four vows, right? And it's a defeat.

A defeat, okay? If you break those vows, then you are defeated. Okay?

But in modern colloquial, you should make a dictionary entry here too. And I'm sorry for all those dictionary entries. But PHANGS PA means to lose a battle.

But it's an idiom. When you say YID PHANGS PA, it means disappointed. Okay?

So somebody says, how do you feel about the two presidential candidates in the United States? You say, YID PHANGS PA I'm just disappointed. Okay?

So it means mind was defeated. But the idiom is, I feel disappointed. So the bigger suffering they have, hungry, thirsty, tired, and now, they had hope.

And they lost hope. And with us too, that's a bigger suffering, right? Like, it's bad not to have money.

And it's bad not to have a boyfriend. But if you thought you had a boyfriend, and then you lost it, that's YID PHANGS PA. That's worse than not having a boyfriend.

Okay? So they have this special suffering. By the way, the main reason to become that kind of being is not controlling your appetite.

Okay? In the old Christian teachings of the... what do they call them?

The... Seven Deadly Sins. Seven Deadly Sins, yeah.

What is another name for them? I don't know. Anyway, gluttony was one.

Overeating, eating too much, or not being mindful when you eat. Just eating like a machine. Then that's...

Nowadays they don't talk about it, because everybody does it and it's okay. In America, 65% of people are overweight, dangerously overweight. Then everybody has diabetes, high blood pressure, and it's expensive for the country.

And also people can't work. They don't have energy, because they're too heavy, and they're tired all the time. Especially in America.

Then America introduced it to China. Taiwan, long time ago. Circle K, McDonald's, really.

And I think Taiwanese people already eating too much American food. Now started in China. And it's just...

It's a sad thing. It's a bad thing. Really bad.

10,000 McDonald's and KFC in China now. 20 billion dollars a year. 20 billion dollars a year.

Six billion chickens a year. Kandaji. They even started in the Indian railways.

India is a vegetarian country. And Kandaji got permission to sell chicken in the train. So now the Indian people are eating meat, because of these companies.

That's the reason to become this kind of spirit. Not control your mouth. I'm 63.

It took me 63 years to learn how to control my mouth. Just eating. Still talking, I cannot control.

But it's hard to control your eating. You have to learn, or you will die. And if you don't die, when you die, you become this kind of spirit.

And you're always looking for something. Gluttony. Do you know?

No. Anyway. It used to be in the list of Christian sins.

And they took it out. Because everybody wanted to eat. So they took it out.

Nobody talks about it. The Pope doesn't talk about gluttony. But be careful.

It hurts your rental car. Okay? Your rental car will break.

If you put too much... Anyway. Okay.

And after you die, you become this kind of spirit. It doesn't mean you can't enjoy food. You should enjoy food.

Buddhist people enjoy things more than other people. Because they don't take too much. Okay?

NANG GI BSTOD PA BYED NI RGYA LA ZAD NYID KYANG So, inside problems. Those are outside problems. Everybody has...

All those spirits have those problems. RGYA LA What's it mean? What's RGYA mean?

We just had it at the beginning of the class. We had low RGYA STONG MANG PO. That's RGYA.

You're getting close. Hundred. So, idiom.

Start a dictionary entry. RGYA LA means what? In a hundred.

And in Tibetan it means in the rare event that they get something. One out of a hundred times. That they run to the trees and they can take a fruit.

RGYA LA means... Yeah, it means in the rare case that they can do it. RGYA LA ZAD NYID KYANG GANG NAS MI LTAR BA They eat the fruit but it cannot pass through their throats.

So, they eat a lot and then their throat is too small. It cannot go down. LTAR BA This is related to LTAR BA LTAR PA meaning liberation.

Moksha. It means it can't go free down their throat. So, LTAR has two meanings.

One is liberation and one is to make it through. RGYIN PAR BRDOD PA YOD PAS And they have knots in their throat. They have some knots here.

Earl, what's the Sanskrit for BRDOD PA? Grantee. Yeah, grantee.

It's a big yoga word. The chakras start from grantees. Okay.

That's another story. BRDOD PA YOD PAS BRDROD KA BA Say BRDROD KA BA I'm sorry. No, the word is say.

But you did a good job. BRDROD KA BA means it's hard to get the food down. RGA SHAS SKYE LA BA BA YOD PA Some have BA BA.

BA BA You should know that it's a prenasal. LB is a prenasal. Not JB.

BA BA means a goiter. A goiter is a thing that grows here and it has a yellow liquid inside. It comes from bad salt or something like that.

You get this. People don't get it much nowadays. Okay.

It's like a cancer, but it's different. BA BA YOD PA LAS SNAG MIM PA MTHUNG DGOS PA Then from this... We're going to have another goiter later.

They were common in Tibet. I think something about the salt. Iodine.

From the goiter comes pus. And that's all they can drink. That's all they have to drink.

They just... And they're drinking their own pus. That's the only liquid they can find.

MTHUNG DGOS PA SONG SREG SKABS GNYIS LA BRDOS PA YOD PA NI Some have problems with the food and the liquids. SNGA BA CHE BA RI DAM GYUR LAS CHUNG MA BZHIN Last time in Guadalajara, I went to a different book and I gave you this whole story about the monk who was walking down the beach and he found the queen of the pretas and she had four... Okay, you remember?

His name is Kothikarna. SNGA BA CHE BA RI is Kothikarna. It's a personal name.

And DAM GYUR means, we heard this story before. LAS CHUNG MA BZHIN Remember, he tried to give them some food and it turned into metal balls and things like that. CHUNG MA SREG SA BA NA He tried to give some food to some pretas.

He was told not to, but he did. Like most monks. BYAG BSGOM MED PAR BA So when he tried to give food to the pretas, it turned into a ball of iron, hot iron.

Okay. And PHUGS MA PHUGS MA means, he gave bread to one of them and it turned into chaff. Chaff is the outside of the seed of wheat or rice.

You know, when you take off the cover of the rice. So he tried to give them food, but it changed into chaff. NAG CHAGS It turned into pus and blood.

And then there was one who was eating his own... One was eating his own... He was so hungry, he started to eat his own arm.

CHAGS SA BA LA SOGS LAS MIN DAG PA LTAR BSTAGS PA And then we had a long discussion of the karma that each preta made. In Guadalajara we talked about it. I'm not going to tell you the story again because it's very long.

And I have other long stories to tell you. LAS BSTAGS PA DANG THON PA'I BRAS BU MI ZAD PA So you always get a result which matches the karma that you did. MI ZAD PA and terrible.

THON PA'I NYONG BA RGYUD PA DANG They had to experience those. RGA SHIG GI SA LTUNG BYAS PA BDEN PA NAS THAR BSKYANGS Some of the pretas, the food and the water, it can go down their throat. But, BSKYANGS KHO PA'I RNAM DU LAS PA NA But when it reaches their stomach, MTHRO CHUG KHU MA SOGS DU RGYUR It becomes liquid metal.

Bad stuff. MTHRO CHUG KHU MA SOGS DU RGYUR BYAS KHOM BSAL BA NI MI PHAN PA'I BDEN DU Not only does it not remove their hunger and thirst, SDUG BSNGAL TSE MED PA SKYES PA They get extraordinary suffering. Unlimited suffering.

There's an important word here that you guys can learn called DENG. SA THOB PA'I BRTAG DANG PO'I DE NA DANG NA DENG Generally it means above. Like, RIGS DENG DU means he's standing on top of the mountain.

But, in this kind of sentence it means not only blah blah blah, but on top of that, they have blah blah blah. So, it's an adverb here. It's a different meaning here.

Okay. We're going to have a translator's training course. Starts at the New College.

New College is opening on November 5th. A couple of days after Kamalashina. And you're all welcome to come to the open house.

There's an open house. Two or three hours. You can walk around the New College.

You can see the New College in Sedona. It's about a four hour drive. Six hour.

Six hour drive from here. But you're very welcome to come. And I'll tell you more about it.

But in January we will start the college. And I'll tell you more about that tonight. So the teacher training for DCI, teacher training for ACI, and translator training.

Ten day terms. Ten days at a time. We'll do it I think five times a year or something.

So I'll tell you more about it tonight. We'll be ready tonight. But anyway, if you want to learn to be a translator, there are 200,000 important Buddhist books.

They are all unbelievable, beautiful. And you need to be able to read Tibetan. The Sanskrit is gone.

And the Chinese, we didn't get it. People went so early to India, they missed the later good books. So China started translating 700 years before Tibet.

So they got all the great books of that time. But then there was a lot of good ones written after that. So anyway.

So if you can read Tibetan, you can help a lot of people because you can translate. And anybody in this room can learn. You just have to try.

GANG NAS RTOGS PA'I MED YANG KA'I PHYIR DE LTAR MA GYUR GYANG PO BA BYAS GRAB PAS Some have these huge stomachs. Their stomachs are like this. Those kind used to sit next to me on the bus when I'm commuting for 19 years to New York.

PHO BYA LAS LTAR PA'I SREG GIS MI KHYEN PA It doesn't matter. They can eat all day. They don't feel full.

And you know people like that. They eat all day, but they still feel hungry. KHYEN PA YI DAG LA LA LAR KHA NAS RTOGS PA'I MED KHYAB SHABS SLAB DU BAR BA And some of them, they have actually fire coming out of their mouth.

When they open their mouth, there's a fire coming out. BYAS MED ZHES PA'ANG YI DAG GI GANG NAS BAR BA'I MI YIN In Tibet, there was a kind of thing you can see at night. It looks like something burning.

It's kind of similar to the Northern Lights. Like it's atmospheric colors going like this. And it's called DEM MED.

DEM MED means demon fire. Then Pabongka Rinpoche says that's pretas at night. You're seeing the fire come out of their mouth at night.

MED BAR BA YIN SBYOR RGYAS GNYIS SBYOR is a kind of an unusual word for digesting. So some of them have SBYOR RGYAS, problems digesting. KUN DGA'O NYID MO CHUD PHABS SKABS YI DAG MO DGE LA DUS PA GSUM YOD PA What's KUN DGA in Sanskrit?

ANANDA If you say ANANDA, it means the guy who is unhappy. ANANDA You got to say ANANDA. That means the guy who is very happy.

Long A in the beginning means very. Short A means not. So you got to say ANANDA.

So ANANDA was out begging for food. He met a YI DAG MO, a female spirit. DGE LA DUS PA GSUM She had three knots in her throat.

GANG NAS JIG PA'I DRAG RNAM PAR NGAG DROG PA SOGS She made very frightening noises from her mouth. Five different kinds. DROG PA This DROG PA means, it doesn't mean friends.

It means to, like the word for advertisements based on this verb, it means to speak far and wide. DROG PA means. SOGS SIGS PA LTA BU He saw that.

You want the whole story? It's kind of long. I went and got it for you.

Because sometimes they talk about some story and we don't know what they're talking about, right? Okay, this comes from a tantra. One of the books in the tantra, taught by Buddha.

The story is found in one of the hundred books of the ancient India. DE'I TSE KUN DGA' BO YI DAG GANG NAS BAR BA'I LUS MI DUS PA DANG Ananda met this Preta who had fire coming out of her mouth and a very ugly body. SHIN TU RIGS CING KHYEN PA She was very thin, skinny.

GANG NAS MI BAR BA Flames coming from her lips. BRDZIN PA MO'I KHAB TZAM LA DRAG TSING PA Her throat was about the size of a needle. DRAG TSING PA She had this hair.

Like that. DRAG TSING PA SEMS MO DANG CHE BA RING Very long nails. Like in a Chinese movie when they show those.

And CHE BA means she had fangs here. RING BZHING SNO BA YANG Very sharp teeth. YUL DU MI'ONG Super ugly.

MI BDUG PA'I TSIG KYANG THOS NAS She would say terrible things from her mouth. Frightening noises from her mouth. KYIS BUNG Very frightening things.

ZHES BYAS PA TZAM DU JIG RTAG NAS DUG PA LAS LANG STE And then suddenly she got up. JIG RTAG NAS DUG PA LAS LANG STE NYUR BAR And she came into the... The Buddha was nearby.

And she came to the Buddha. BYUNG DU DE'I KHA LA BA DER SONG NGO BYUNG DU DE'I KYI CHEN NGAR BYIN NAS When she had reached the Buddha, LUS MED NGA SA LA GTUG STE The five points of her body touched to the ground. What's that mean?

Yeah, touched the head and the hands and the knees. SA LA GTUG STE BYUNG DU DE'I KHYAD PA LA CHU BA'I CHAGS TZAM NAS Touched the Buddha's feet with her head. LUS BDAG ZHING Then her body was like this.

And she is suffering. SDUG PA'I PHUNG YIN RTZAS DU She said, help me. She said to the Buddha, help me.

BYUNG DU DE'I KHA LA DUG PA'I BYAS SU DU BDAG BA'I THA ZHIG NA SPYOD YIN LA GYIS BYING SPYOD PA MED YID BDAG GANG NAS MA RANG PAR She gave me that card. Then she sat to one side. And the other people started to call her Fire Mount.

YID BA BDAG LA DUG BSKYED BYAS CHOS KHYOD LTA LTAR ZHAG SDUG NA TSE DU BYAS NAS YID BDAG GI GANG TSUL KHYOD BA'I RGYUR RO ZHIG CHOS BDAG GIS DE LA THAB GCIG GIS NA DE BDAG LA DUG BSKYED BYAS SU LTA LTAR ZHAG SDUG LA YIN Then there was a monk. There was a monk and he was looking at her. And the Buddha said, in seven days you're going to die and become this.

KHYOD LTA LTAR ZHAG SDUG NA YID BA TSE DU BYAS YID BDAG GI GANG TSUL KHYOD RGYUR BDAG GIS DE LA THAB GCIG GIS NA Is there anything I can do? YID BDAG GIS SDUG NA DE LA YONGS SU THA BAR GYUR ZHIG BYIN NA Can I not be born like this? I think it might be a nanda.

I'm not sure. It's not clear. DE BDAG LA GYUR GYI YID BDAG GANG GI LUNG GI BYED MA THAG CIG RGYAL DANG NI LA MTHOR MA BYIN TE THAMS CAD DRANG SANG LA SROG PA RGYAL DANG NI LA ZHAL ZAD PHYOG DANG PHOS NA TSE BAS MA GYUR ZHIG BYIN NA Then he said, if I were to make a lot of mthormas, equal to the number of drops of water in the Ganges River, and offer them to the pretas, THAMS CAD DRANG SANG LA SROG PA RGYAL DANG NI LA ZHAL ZAD and if you offer food to countless Brahmins, high Indian saints, and siddhis, siddhas, DRANG SANG, PHOS NA TSE BAS MA GYUR ZHIG BYIN NA maybe you can extend your life.

BYUNG DU DE, BDAG GIS JI LTAR PAR YI BDAG DRANG SANG LA SROG PA DE NYID KYI GANG ZHIG BYOR BAR GYUR I think it's a nanda. He said, okay, I'll try. I'll try to make this many offerings.

I'll give it a shot. DE NAS CHEN PO'I BDE'I KYI RGA BA LA RGA TZAL BA GYUR BYED PA MA BYAS CIG It is a nanda. Then the Buddha said, don't sweat.

Don't worry. GYUR KYI YOD DAG GANG GI RLUNG GI PHYIR MA PHRA DU RGYAL DANG NYE DANG DRAM ZAD DANG DRANG SONG LA SROG PA LA KHAR ZAD DANG MTHOR MO MONG PO DRONG BA'I THAB SNGA LA YOD KYI YI LO BAR MA BYAS CIG Don't worry. I have a method by which you can offer tormas and food to that many beings.

I have a secret method. This is tantra, right? DE NAS CHEN PO'I BDE'I KYI RGA BA LA RGA TZAL BA SNGA LA SONG BA'I KYI ZHIG GIS TSE MED PA'I DBANG TU RGYUR PA'I UD ZIN RNAM PAR RGYAL BA'I ZHUGS SHES BYA BA YOD DE I have a special mantra.

Buddha said to Ananda, I have a special mantra. The mantra's name is the overwhelming power of the light of endless magnificence. GANG ZHIG GIS GSUNGS KYI BRJOD NA If I teach you this mantra, YID BDAG GANG GI LUNG GI BYAS MA THAR TU RGYAL MTHONG NYES DANG DRAM ZAD DANG DRANG SONG LA SROG PA'I MTHOR MO MONG PO DRONG BA'I MTHOR MO MONG TU RGYUR TE Then if you just offer a few MTHOR MOs, it becomes more.

Maybe we should learn this mantra. And then you can cover all those people that you have to give a MTHOR MO to in order not to die in seven days and become like her. I hope the mantra's here.

It is. It's coming. DE DAG LA SROG PA'I GCIG KYANG GANG ZHIG YUL U GYUR RTZAL GYIS PHRAD MED BYANG BA'I PHRAD DON GNYEN THOB PA GYUR RO So any MTHOR MO you offer this way becomes thousands of MTHOR MOs with this mantra.

RGA'U NGA YANG DRAM ZAD GYUR PA NA BYANG CHUB SEMS PA CHEN PAS ZIG DBANG PHYUG DANG DE SHES BSHAD PA DBANG GYUR YON DRIN ZHIG SBYANG BA LA GSUNGS KYI THOB PA'I NA I heard this mantra from Guanyin. Gautama said I heard this from Guanyin. From Avalokiteshvara.

DE SHES BSHAD PA DBANG GYUR YON DRIN ZHIG SBYANG BA LA GSUNGS KYI THOB PA'I NA DE DBANG GIS YI DAG ZIN PA'I PA NYES DANG PHRA SONG MONGS PA'I GANG ZHIG DANG MTHOR MO I also used it not to become a Praetor. So Buddha's saying to Ananda, I also used this mantra before I became Buddha. MTHOR MO BYIN PA'I DE YI DAG GIS GANG ZHIG RGYAS PA DE DAG KYANG SDUG BSNGAL LAS RNAM PAR DRIN NAS MTHOR RIG GIS LHAR RGYAS PA RGYUR MTHONG And I was able to help many Praetors also with the MTHOR MO.

Because the Praetors who ate the MTHOR MO also got a better life. They had a better rebirth. RGA'O GYUR GYIS GSUNGS ZHIG I'm going to teach you this mantra.

Don't forget. SEMS RNAM DANG TSE TSE KYANG PHAL BZHIN GYUR BA GYUR RO You'll make good karma and your life will change. You'll live longer life.

DE TSE CHEN PO'I LAS KYI RGA' BO LA GSUNGS RNAGS DI RGA TZAL DO Then the Buddha gave him the mantra. Here is the mantra. We can try it this week, right?

With our MTHOR MO. Can you type it while I go? Okay.

NAMA NAMA N-A-M-A-H H at the end. Yeah, NAMA Okay, yeah. SARVA S-A-R-V-A SARVA Good.

Tathagata T-A-T-H-A G-A-T-A Tathagata Okay. Avalokite? A-V-A-L-O-K-I-T-E Avalokite?

Yeah. NAMA SARVA Tathagata Avalokite? Sambhara S-A-M-B-H-A-R-A B-H Yeah.

Then repeat Sambhara to Sambhara HUNG H-U-N-G Is there any way you can show it on one screen? Yeah, good. Okay.

Hang on. I want to make up something. Okay.

NAMA means what? NAMAS TE Yeah, NAMAS means bow down. And then before S, the S changes to H.

So instead of NAMAS, it becomes NAMA. Then some people in India say NAMAHA, that's a mistake. It's wrong, and it's weird.

It's not NAMAHA. There's no such thing in Sanskrit. It's NAMA.

It's just NAMA. You can try to correct them, but it's too late, I think. Because when they do it, the poetry doesn't work.

It's supposed to go da-da-da-da-da-da and it goes da-da-da-da-da-da-da. It's weird. I don't know why they don't notice it.

But anyway. NAMA SARWA What's the root? What yoga pose has the root in it?

Prasarita. Yeah, prasarita, spread out. Okay, prasarita.

Sansara comes from that. Tathaagata. Tatha means that way.

Tatha. Say Tatha. The accent's on the second syllable.

Tatha. Tathaagata. It's not Tathagata.

Tathaagata. Okay. Tathaagata.

Tatha means that way. Gata means gone. What's the famous place where that gata comes?

Yeah, gata-gati-para-gati-para-sang-gati. jedi-jedi-bolo-jedi-bolo-sang-gedi-bodhisattva. Gati.

So, Tathagata means Buddha. Tathagata is another name for Buddha. Gone that way.

Jumped off the subway during the crystal. Somebody should make a song like that. Jumped off the subway during the crystal.

Tatha. Like that. Tathagata.

Avalokite? It can mean... What's it mean?

Chen re. Ava means down. What's the downward clearing wind?

That doesn't work. Avadhuti? What's that?

Oh, yeah. Okay. Ava.

Loka means to look. Loka means to look. So, the name of Guanyin or Avalokiteshvara.

Avaloka means how mom looks at her child. Like, she's holding the child and she's like... It means love.

Look with love. Then the Tibetan word also means rag. Old cloth.

And some guy translated it as looking down with an old cloth. Anyway. Avalokite?

Okay. Who are looking down? I'll take it as instrumental Yi.

Avalokite? To the ones who are looking down. Sambara.

Sambara can have two meanings. One is collect karma. Collecting seeds.

Collecting seeds. Sambara. Sambara.

And he repeats it. Sambara. Sambara.

Say who. It's not ham. It's not an M.

It's not ham. It's an NG. Who.

And you can prove that with what genitive and instrumental comes after it. They never use a GY. They always use a G.

So it means it was pronounced whom. Whom is called shizuk. Shizuk means let it be.

Shizuk. Sometimes when you put a knife in the ground to start a new building. Shizuk.

Let it be. I'm going to see if anybody explained the mantra. I'll tell you tonight.

If someone, sometimes some lamas explain the mantra. We can check in the database. But right now it looks like I bow down to all Buddhas, to the ones who are looking down.

May seeds be collected. May seeds be collected. It looks like that.

It's a way to get more mileage out of your tormas. So you can use it when you make your tormas. Is that today?

Yeah, so you can either talk about Trump or you can do this mantra while you're making tormas. Guess which one makes better karma. Sambhara can also mean bliss, great bliss.

Like it's related to Chakrasambhara. For example. There's more story.

It's a long story. Yikes. Okay, sorry.

We'll finish the story and we'll take a break. PP break. BYAMS PA'I DE'I KYIS DGA' BA LA RGA TZAL PA Buddha said to Ananda, RIGS KYI PO'AM RIGS KYI PO'AM GANG LA ZHIG ZAD RING BAR DGOS PA Any child of my family, male or female.

It means Buddhist. ZAD ZING RANG Who wants a long life. SON NAM CHE ZHING PA' BA Or who wants to increase their seeds.

BYIN PA'I BAR DU BYIN PA'I NYES DU YANG TSUL TSOGS PAR BYA BAR BDOD NA Or they want to become a master of the first perfection, which is giving. BDAG TU NGA' DRU GSAM YANG NA DRU THAMS CAD DU BYAS KYANG BAR BYAS DU RGYUR PA MED DO If they always say this mantra in the morning, or all the time. He goes like that.

So I think it's especially powerful in the morning. BYAS KYANG BAR BYAS DU RGYUR PA MED DO They will get no obstacles, especially to practicing giving. Like my friend, who didn't like his mother-in-law, which is very unusual.

They were having fights all the time. Then he decided to make peace, because he's Buddhist. So he bought her a nice bath mat with flowers.

Then he gave to her and said, let's get together. Let's be friends. Then the first time she stepped in the shower, she fell down.

It slipped. That's an obstacle to the act of giving. BDAG NA obstacle.

So if you say this mantra, when you try to give the dharma to the spirits, there will be no problems. They will get it. They can eat it.

They can taste it. You see? You are opening up the dharma for them.

Then they will swallow it. They will feel happy. GNOD TZANG MA'I NANG DU GCOD TZANG MA LUGS LA CHEN RNAMS CHE BA'AM KHUR BA LA SOGS PA CHUNG ZAD GCIG BTABS TE SNGON TE LA BDUN GNOD TZANG MA'I NANG DU When you make your dharma, get a clean bowl, he says.

It should be... TZANG MA means totally clean. You should wash your hands before you make dharma.

Some people even wear a cloth here not to get their breath on the dharma. But you don't have to do it. Just have a cappuccino before and your breath will be okay.

Then get some clean water. You can put in barley, wheat, or sweetened flour. We are going to use bread.

White bread. My lama said that's perfect. He sent me to the store.

I have to go for two, three hours to find this bread. We got it for you. Sometimes it's hard to find.

But we got it for you. It's a super cheap white no-nutrition American bread. Use it for dharmas.

Don't use it for food. BYUNG SE GCIG BTAB LA LHAG PA YED PA NUS KYI RTEN DU SHAG STE Then you take your right hand and you put it over the dough. The dough is in the bowl.

You put your right hand over the dough. RTEN DU SHAG STE GSUNGS SDI LA LEN SDUG BSNGAL DE BZHIN GZHAG PA'I TSAN NAS SPYOD PA BYA'O Then you can say this mantra seven times over the dough before you make the dharma. If you want super dharma, there's four Buddha's names you can also say.

This is getting complicated. There's four Buddha's names you can say after seven of those mantras. Okay, ready?

DE BZHIN GZHAG PA'I RIN CHEN MANG LA PHYAG RTZA LO You can say it in English or Chinese or German, it doesn't matter. You say, I bow down to the Buddha VAS AVA VAS AVA V-A VAS AVA VAS AVA Say VAS AVA. Accident on the first syllable.

VAS AVA I bow down to the Buddha VAS AVA. So you're going to say four Buddha's names. This is the first one.

VAS AVA I bow down to the Buddha VAS AVA. VAS AVA means jewels. The Buddha's name is jewels.

Lots of jewels. RIN CHEN MANG in Tibetan. DE BZHIN GZHAG PA'I RIN CHEN MANG GI TSE NA'I BRJOD NA'I RGYUN GYI BSLAB KYIS YID BDAG THAMS CAD KYI SKYE BA MANG PO SEMS NA BYAS PA'I MI DGE BA'I LAS BYAMS SHING If you say this Buddha's name over the dharma, then any spirit who eats that dharma, it will destroy the bad karma they made for many lifetimes of being cheap and stingy.

And then that will finish their preta karma. You see what I mean? Okay.

So it helps to destroy their karma. SEMS NA'I MI DGE BA'I LAS BYAMS SHING And they will get good karma. So when they eat the dharma, it will destroy their old bad karma.

Help destroy their old bad karma. DE BZHIN BSHAD PA SU DAM PA LA CHAGS SO DO I bow down to the Buddha and the Sanskrit name is not in the sutras. So I remade it.

That means 10% chance it's wrong. But nobody knows the name. So this is the best.

Agra Rupa. Say A-G-R-A R-U-P-A Agra Rupa. Agra Rupa.

What's Agra mean? Huh? That's Agni.

There's a city in Taj Mahal. Agra. Agra.

It means it's a tip. Very best. Very best.

Agra means single point. And Rupa means beautiful form. Most beautiful body is the name of this Buddha.

Agra Rupa. In Tibetan it's SU DAM PA SU DAM PA Like deng dang deng pa. Ultimate reality.

I could go off on Rupa. I really like it. But I won't do too much.

It can mean beautiful like silver. So the name for Indian money is rupee. And there's an English cognate which is kverb in Indo-European.

It's hard to find. It's k-v-e-r-p. And what word comes from that?

Corpse. It's interesting. So Rupa does exist in English.

Anyway, I bow down to the Buddha whose name is Agra Rupa. Now what happens to the torma if you do that? Let's find out.

I hope I can translate it. DE BZHIN ZHES PA GUS BYAMS LAS KYIS TSAN No. DE BZHIN ZHES PA SU DAM PA'I TSAN NAS BYAS PA'I JIN GYIS BSLAB GYIS YID BDAG MANG PO CHE GZUGS MI DUG PA CHUNG ZHING GZUGS DANG TSEN POS TSUL TSOGS PA RGYUR RO When you say this Buddha's name over the torma, the preta who eats it becomes beautiful.

So they look ugly, right? They look like Gollum. But if you say this mantra over the torma, then their body will change and they'll become beautiful.

Can you change another person's karma? So why are you doing this? You are just a postman.

You are just a postman. You are delivering them some good karma that they did before. So don't feel too much pride, okay?

You're like postman bringing a $100,000 check to somebody. You didn't write the check. You just deliver it.

But that's okay. It's nice to be postman. Okay.

Okay, number three. DE BZHIN GZHAD PA GUS BYAMS LAS LA CHAGS TSAL LO Again, this Sanskrit is gone. And I reconstructed it and it could be wrong, but I don't think so.

PAR YANTRA KHYA P-A-R-Y P-A-R-Y A-N-T-A P-A-R-Y A-N-T-A KHYA Yeah, PAR YANTRA KHYA. PAR YANTRA means endless. Many, many.

Zillions. The Tibetan word is zillions. KHYA means bodies.

They have mister's zillion body. Countless bodies. DE BZHIN GZHAD PA GUS BYAMS LAS KYIS TSE NAS SBYOD PA'I BYIN GYIS BSLAB GYIS YI DVAGS MANG PO BSKOM PA SPANG ZHING TSIN PA RGYUR TE BYIN PA'I NAS YI ZHIN DU SA BA DANG CHOG ZHING DRANG BAR GYUR RO TSE NAS SBYOD PA'I BYIN GYIS BSLAB GYIS YI DVAGS MANG PO BSKOM PA SPANG NAS Their thirst is stopped by this mantra.

TSIN PA RGYUR TE And they become satisfied. NAS YI ZHIN DU SA BA And they can eat whatever you give them. ZHING DRANG BAR GYUR RO How many Buddhas?

One more, right? Seven mantras and then four Buddhas. So, the fourth one is I bow down to the Buddha whose name is this one I found in the Sanskrit.

It's GATA BHAYA G-A-T-A B-H-A-Y-A GATA BHAYA GATA means gone away. What's BHAYA? Like in Bhairava.

What's Venerable Jigme's name in Sanskrit? No, what's her name in Sanskrit? What's Jigme in Sanskrit?

A-BHAYA A-BHAYA No fear, fearless. Whose name is it? It's Naropa's name.

Niguma's partner. Niguma's partner's name, his personal name, was Abhaya. But he came to be called Naropa because he was a real man.

That's another story. I bow down to the Buddha whose name is GATA BHAYA. No fear.

Gone beyond fear. Went beyond fear. In Tibetan it's JIGS BRAL JIGS BRAL J-I-K-D-R-E-L JIGS BRAL What do you think happens to the preta if you say this Buddha's name over your dharma?

Yeah, no more fear. Like nobody's trying to kill them or cut them. They can reach the trees.

No one tries to hurt them. I'm almost finished with the story. Let's see what happens.

BYAMS DU DE KYI RGA BA LA RGA TZAL PA RIGS KYIS BU LA SOGS PA'I DE SHES BYAS PA'I SEMS GNAS CHOS DE CING GI BSLAB PA'I OG TU SREG DGOS LEN GSUN BYAS After you finish the four Buddha's names, SREG DGOS This is called SREG DGOS. So I bow down to the Buddha Gathabhaya. Three times, snap your fingers.

STONG MA'I NUS BLANGS TE BSLAB PA KYANG DE SA TZAM MA RUG PA BYA'O Then make the dharma and go put it someplace in your cabin where the bugs won't get it. Or the mice. By the way, if your dharma gets eaten by bugs or mice, you can just offer some cookies.

Same. Same thing. It should have some sugar in it and some milk in it and some bread.

That's enough. Emergency dharma. Okay.

CING GI BSLAB PA'I OG TU SREG DGOS LEN GSUN BYAS DE STONG MA'I NUS BLANGS TE BSLAB PA KYANG DE SA TZAM MA RUG PA BYA'O Put that in a clean place. DE LTAR STONG MA BYIN PAR BYAS NA CHOG ZHIG NAS LHAG PA'I YID BDAG GANG GI RLUNG GI BYAS MA THAG PHYIR RGYAS MTHONG GNYIS SO SROG NAS YOD RTZAL BA'I BRDUN DUN THOB PA RGYUR RO If you do that, then all the thousands, many thousands of pretas can enjoy your dharma. And you create the karma not to be like that lady.

Who's he talking to? Yeah, he's telling Ananda, you got to do this or in seven days you're going to be like her. He's talking.

KHA SA'I DE DAG YID BDAG GIS YI BZHIN DU SA BA DANG CHOG BYANG PA YID BDAG GIS GANG PO'ANG DANG MTHONG RIG GI LHAG BSKYED PA RGYUR RO If the pretas eat that dharma, they will be able to eat it. I got to look up a word. Hang on just a second.

If you offer that dharma, they can eat it and they will leave the world of the pretas and they will reach the world of the devas. They will be reborn to a higher place. They'll be reborn to deva realm.

Scott, you got to give Adam a good painting of the Wheel of Life. You got one? Can you get it up?

But they can become a high rebirth when they die. They will leave the pretas world and they will go to higher realm. Okay.

We're going to take a break. Ten minutes. Hi.

Let's do our meditation. Okay, ready? Let's do it one more time.

Okay, check your cell phone. In Guadalajara, they have a good custom, right? If your cell phone goes off, they charge you 50 US dollars.

It's good money. What do you call it? Fundraising.

Blow your nose. Relax your shoulders. Push your shoulders back.

Chest out. Little smile. Relax your fingers.

Tummy a little bit tight. Eyelids relaxed. Forehead relaxed.

We're going to start the meditation a little bit differently. We'll do the ten breaths. Try to watch ten breaths out and in without thinking about something else.

Then this morning we'll start. You're on your deathbed and you are telling your friends and family which things, which of your possessions each person can have. So just a few minutes there.

If, when the time comes, on your deathbed or before, to give away your things, what will you give away? And to whom will you give it? So we'll start there.

Just for a few minutes. What things will you give of all of your things? To whom?

Then imagine you're lying on your back and you begin to die. Hands and feet getting colder. No feeling.

Cold spreading up your arms. Trouble breathing. Finally the nostrils close.

The mouth closes. And the eyes close. And it's dark, but suddenly you hear a loud noise, like an earthquake.

It feels like the whole ground is quaking. Then you see mountains of stone around you falling. The earth is opening up.

Terrible noises of mountains smashing against mountains falling towards you. You run, for example, down this valley, past the temple, and then a huge tsunami appears and it takes you across the desert in deep water waves. You're fighting to stay on top.

And then suddenly the waves leave you in an empty desert. And the sun is burning down and then wraps your body in flame. You are burning in the middle of flame.

You keep moving across the land and then a hurricane comes, tornado, tearing at your body with a loud noise. Knocks you down. You get back up, keep going.

Then the wind dies down, gets quiet. You're walking across the land. Then far away you see water, mirage.

You walk towards it and you step up to the mirage. You step through the mirage. Then on the other side you're wrapped in smoke, fog.

You're walking, but it's all smoke. Can't see anything. You feel very alone.

No one is with you. No one can be with you. You feel very lonely, frightened.

Then in the smoke you start to see sparks, random sparks all around you through the smoke. You keep walking. Then you see an unsteady light in the distance.

It's not moving. As you get closer you realize it's a candle flame that's not moving at all. But as you get closer you become smaller and smaller.

Your mind is becoming smaller and smaller. Now the candle flame is as tall as you are. You keep moving towards the candle flame.

And then suddenly you're inside the flame. And then you come out on the other side of the flame. And again it's dark.

But in the distance, on the horizon, it's like day is breaking. Slowly the sky is becoming light, white light. You keep walking towards that light.

And in time you're surrounded in a soft white glow. You keep walking. And you come to a place where in the white on the horizon there's red coming.

Dark red light. It's getting bigger and bigger. As you walk towards it, then you're wrapped in red light.

You walk towards the horizon through the red light. And suddenly everything is dark. Now go deeper into the darkness.

More dark. Very, very quiet. Very, very small, like a tip of a needle.

Your whole world. Start. And then you see some crystal.

Something crystalline, like clear glass. And then everything is appearing to you as emptiness, sheer emptiness. Nothing else.

No white. No red. No black.

Pure emptiness. And you understand. You recognize it as emptiness.

And it's not a color. It's not a shape. It's the fact that nothing is coming from its own side.

And there's nothing else. Then try to feel some joy, happiness, deep pleasure, deep happiness. You are close to becoming a Buddha.

You are close to helping all beings. The old life is finished. And this is the new me.

This emptiness is my essence. And it gives me the power to help every living being stay here for a few minutes in the body of a Buddha, which is emptiness. And please come back to your breath.

Please don't move. Three deep breaths. Exhale first.

While you're taking these breaths, imagine that the out-breath. On the out-breath, you are offering all the good karma, all the good seeds you made during this meditation to other people. All the people in this world.

May they learn these things. May they learn to become Buddha. And you can slowly open your eyes.

Take a stretch. That's too bad. Any questions?

Microphone. Hi, Keshava. My question is, you mentioned yesterday about putting the butter on the bread, thinking about all those things that are coming from me.

If that's the case, I shouldn't be afraid of any of this process. So should I do this step during this meditation, or should I do it later? It's a good question.

You can understand something is coming from you and still be afraid of it. You see? Like if you get cancer, you know it's coming from you, but you're also afraid of it.

So I would suggest, and I didn't do it today, but I was going to do it later. After each element dissolves, after the mountains fall, after the tsunami comes, after the fire comes, after the wind comes, after the mirage, after the smoke, after the sparks, after the flame, after each one, when you do your three-day retreat, that's why we do retreat, because you have time to play. Especially three-year retreat, you can try everything.

You have time. The time goes very fast. But pause, and think about the emptiness of the mountains, and then think about the emptiness of the water, and think about the pen.

And that's what you should be doing. Yeah. We're just getting used to the mountains, but then you have to learn to use the pen with the mountains.

And to do that, as I said yesterday, and I wasn't kidding, you should have a partner, because they will irritate you all the time. And then you're always thinking, where did this person come from? And when you have trouble, you think, where did this come from?

When you win the lottery, you don't say, why me? Why me? But when something bad happens, you're like, why me?

Why me? So, when you have trouble, it makes you remember emptiness. It's coming from me.

So you won't blame anybody, but it will still hurt. You know? You say, I know my partner's saying this because of me, my seeds, but it still hurts.

It hurts less, because you can fix it. Okay? All right, other question.

[Speaker 2]
Geshe-la, thank you for teaching. Very good question. You mentioned about mantra, which is we can use when we go to the silent retreat.

And you said that we can start from OM, then could be name of the Lama, and we can finish with AH OM. What would be right name for you to use in this mantra?

[Speaker 1]
My monk, I think my monk name is good. What is that?

[Speaker 2]
What?

[Speaker 1]
Oh, well. Sumati Dharma. Yeah, can you type it?

My monk's name is Lobsang Chunzin, but the Sanskrit is good for mantra. So it's Sumati, S-U-M-A-T-I Dharma Dharma D-H-A-R-A Right? R-M Good, then D-H-A-R-A One word, yeah, D-H-A-R-A Good, okay.

That's good for a mantra, I think. Some people had Arya before.

[Speaker 2]
You could...

[Speaker 1]
OM, Arya, Sumati, Dharma, Dharma, AH OM OM, OM? You could put Arya before Sumati. A...

A-R-Y-A A-R-Y-A After OM. Okay, then AH A-H, capital A-H, capital A... No, capital A, lowercase h.

And then, yeah, good. I would put, you know, if you want, you can do two U's. Capital H, lowercase u, lowercase u, N-G, yeah.

The U-N-G, lowercase. Yeah, two U's, one N. There you go.

Okay. That's good. OM, Arya, Sumati, Dharma, Dharma, AH OM If you want, but you can put your own teacher's name.

Whoever's your teacher, you can put their name. Jack can say, OM, Arya, Jessica, AH OM Really, okay? Whoever's your teacher.

Wife is the main teacher. Okay, let's do a little bit more. Oh, one more question.

Lenny, if you have one more question. I have a question about the DJI course in Frankfurt. I have a question about the DJI course in Frankfurt.

In this time, I asked you about the deceased son of my friend. I asked you about the deceased son of my friend. And you're talking about Bardo.

Yes, Bardo. And where does the Bardo fit into this whole process? Oh, nice question.

Nice question. She said, where does Bardo come? When does Bardo start?

Bardo means, par means between death and rebirth. Par, bardo. So the real word is bardo.

Okay, bardo. Par means in between. Bardo means after you die and before reborn, there's a time spirit.

You are a spirit. Not preta, but you are kind of a spirit. And during that time you have magic powers.

You can go to Beijing from Tucson without a plane. You can listen to your relatives talking about you after you die. So if somebody dies that you love, you can talk to them for a long time.

Like weeks, months. I have a friend, she did it for years. Her daughter died and she talked to her for years.

And they can hear you because Bardo has a special power. So if someone that you love died, I suggest when you're alone you can talk to them. Not when you're with other people.

They might put you in the hospital. But you can talk to them. And it's very good to talk to them about the things you remember which were sweet and which were nice.

And the good things they did. Like don't tell them, you remember the last fight we had. Don't talk about those things.

Just talk about, do you remember we went out to look at the trees on my birthday and it was so beautiful and I love you so much. And say nice things to them. If you can do it before they die, it's even better.

Tell people you love them. Tell them thank you. Tell them you appreciate them.

Like Jigme, I appreciate all the many years of work. Then where does Bardo come in this meditation? We talked about the four signs reverse.

If you don't jump off the subway at the right time, then again out of the crystal you'll see black. The black will start again. And then the red will start again.

And then the white will start again. And then you start to be aware of Bardo. So that Bardo is actually, they call it the time between death and rebirth, but actually it's a rebirth in itself.

And there's a big debate about which realm is a Bardo spirit in. In the Wheel of Life, you have that? Yeah.

So there's five ways, six ways to be reborn, in the inside part. Scott, you have a laser pointer? I have one.

No. I don't have one. Which button?

Right button. Okay. So these are, let me see.

These are pretas. Big stomachs, little necks. Some of them are cold, some of them are hot.

And then this is hell beings, which we talked about already. These are animals, which we're going to talk about. These are humans.

There's even somebody having a class here. Probably us. And these are two kinds of temporary gods.

We call pleasure beings. So there are six ways to be reborn. But here are the Bardo people.

Here. And the bad ones are being brought down by the Lord of Death, and the good ones are being brought up by some monks or something. All right?

So there's a debate about which realm these guys belong. The Bardo. But even though their body is very subtle, they do have prana, chi.

They do have mind. So they are not without a body. They have a body, but it's very subtle.

And it can go through walls, and it can travel to Beijing in five minutes. It can go to another planet. So when you ask a Buddhist, where did people on this planet come from?

It's easy to be born, to die in another galaxy, and be reborn here. It's not a problem. They can move faster than the speed of light.

They can move very fast during that time. Who populated this planet? It can be people who died on other planets.

So you still have prana, chi, and you still have mental process. And then you can live in that body for seven days, and then you die. Maximum seven days.

Bardo being dies. Then you can be reborn in the bardo seven times. Sometimes you are, sometimes you're not.

So that's why we do prayers after 49 days. After seven sets of seven days, that person will have to take another life outside bardo. One of those five or six lives.

So it's good to do a prayer on that day. It's good to know that you start counting on the day they die. So if they die on Thursday, you don't wait till Friday to start number one of the 49 days.

You start on the day they died. That's day number one. Then when you hit 49, it's good to do special prayers for them.

Because within that time they have to be reborn. Then they'll go through the same process again. They will die from the bardo, and they will be born into some realm.

Animal or something. There's one exception. Yeah, we call formless realm.

There's a place you can be born right after you die. You don't have to go bardo. There's no bardo.

If you die here, your mind takes birth here. And you don't have a gross physical body. You have a very subtle pranic body.

But you have no bardo. You die here, you take birth here. In one second, okay?

Alright, so is that the answer? I think so. So yeah, you will go through the reverse of the four signs, of the four signs, sorry, four emptinesses, when you, after the crystal, if you don't get off the subway.

Okay. We have time for one more question. And we'll keep doing questions all week, so don't worry about it.

Geshe-la, when you get off the subway, do you have to come back and help, or can you go somewhere else? There's a famous three examples of options here. And we talked about them in Frankfurt.

They're part of DCI Level 8. Anybody remember? Yeah, not fairy, but a fairy man.

Yeah, so there are three leadership models in Buddhism, right? One is called the king, who leads the other people. So they try to be a good example, and they go, they walk first, and then they say, follow me.

Okay, that's one kind of Buddhist leader. Then there's a shepherd, and they are going behind the people, and they are hitting them with a stick. You know, go, go, go.

And sometimes they say those people try to get other people to become Buddha before them. You see, you become Buddha first. It's like you are walking out of the temple, or you're trying to get in the line for the ladies' room, ladies' bathroom, and you're like, you go first.

So you become Buddha first, I'll go later. I'll help you become Buddha, okay? Then there's called a fairy man, who takes people from one side of the river to the other side of the river, and they get in the boat together.

Then they start at the same time, and they arrive at the same time. So these are three models in Buddhism of a leader. And then after that explanation, somebody like Tsongkapa will say, but two of them don't exist.

Yeah, it doesn't make any sense to delay your Buddhahood so somebody else can become Buddha first. It doesn't make any sense. If you become Buddha, if you get a chance to jump off the subway, jump.

Don't wait for a yi yi to get off. Because if you become Buddha, you can help yi yi more. You see what I mean?

So the idea that teaching, they say take it with a grain of salt. It refers to generally encouraging other people, or team building. Let's get this enlightenment thing done.

Let's go together. But in reality, if you have a chance to get off, jump. Because then you can really help people.

Then you can really serve other people. So you don't have to wait. And you're not going to leave...

Laura's not going to leave Agastina. The minute after you jump, you have one billion bodies. You can take her to the movies, and at the same time you can do one billion other things.

So jump. If you get a chance, jump. Because you'll just be more helpful.

You don't have to leave your family. You just keep one body there, and have another body in many other countries, many other worlds. So nobody's going to miss you.

You don't have to delay or anything. The idea that you have to delay is a mistaken idea. And every scripture says that.

You don't have to wait for other people. Try to get there first. What's the famous example in the other lam rim?

A family is starving in famine, and there's not enough food. And the father sees there's only enough food for one more day's food. So he eats all of it himself.

Why? Yeah, he can go find more food for the family. If he splits up the food, they all die together.

But it's an old example in the scripture. If you have a chance to jump, jump. You can still be with your family and everything, but you can be with a billion other families at the same time.

All right. We'll stop there.
