[Speaker 1]
Okay, we're going to go through the meditations quickly and then we'll have to continue with the detailed explanation after the retreat, okay? So I'll go through them with you, just quickly described to you. First page, the picture is the girl with her teacher in the school.

So sometimes the schedule will tell you, now you have to do your, who has helped me contemplation, who has helped me contemplation. Does anybody not have this book? Anybody not have this book?

Just Katie, who probably printed it. Okay, okay, you're with the boy, he can help you. Okay, then you're going to take someone who has helped you in your life and pick three things they did for you.

Don't go, not thirty, not three hundred, pick three, okay? During that meditation session, what are three things that someone did to help you, okay? And if you want, you can do mantras during that time.

So, the whole time that Mr. Wu was talking, I was concentrating, but I was doing my mantras also. It's okay, you can do, okay? You can learn, okay?

All right. Second one here is the eight freedoms. We are talking about them nowadays.

Somebody tell me what the pen means. I am free from what? Somebody raise their hand.

We need a microphone. Give me a microphone. You have a microphone, you guys?

Wireless. Okay, who can explain to me the first freedom? About the pen, something about the pen.

Raise your hand. I'm drinking my Indian tea while you think about it.

[Speaker 2]
It is that we are not born into a world where there isn't teachings about emptiness.

[Speaker 1]
Good, that's all. I was not born into a world where nobody's talking about the pen. By the way, there's a second one there that you can think about if you want to.

The second kind of mistake here or problem here is that you weren't born into a world where nobody understands karma. Those two go together. You were not born into a world where nobody understands that the husband who's yelling at them is coming from them.

Because they yelled at their kids or their students last week. A. B.

You were not born into a world where you don't understand, nobody explained to you about how karma is planted in your mind and how it opens in your mind. DCI level two. You heard all that.

And many, many people never heard it. Most people never heard it. And most Buddhists never heard it.

Okay, so that's the two kinds of the first, number two here, number one here. Let's go to the next one. Who can explain the chickens to me?

Why is there a picture of chickens? Somebody has to tell me. No, no, raise your hand, get the microphone.

That way I can drink my tea. Anybody can explain the chickens to me? Okay, Sabrina is here.

She's the representative of China to the UN.

[Speaker 2]
I wasn't born as a chicken. I wasn't born as any other animals.

[Speaker 1]
Yeah, good. I wasn't born as an animal. Okay, so nobody is trying to eat my leg in the Kandaji.

Okay, what's Kandaji you guys? It's Chinese for KFC, okay? The Kandaji Corporation built 5,000 KFCs in China and they are proceeding to poison every Chinese person with that stuff.

Really, really. It's terrible. It's a terrible kind of, it's a kind of an attack on China.

It's not with a gun, it's with a chicken leg. No, and it ruins people's health. You go to Taiwan, they had Kandaji, I don't know, 15, 20 years ago.

People don't look so healthy. You go to Beijing or Guangzhou, people look healthy because they are eating vegetables. But it's changing now.

And you guys should, don't go there, don't eat that stuff. I told Stanley, he can come to America but he cannot eat American food. Okay, we have this agreement.

Or was that Xiaoping? Anyway, okay. Alright.

No, because I don't want you to, it's not healthy. It makes you fat and lazy and you don't think so clear. It's not good.

It's not a good thing. Anyway, I didn't have to end up in the Kandaji where they are selling my leg. I'm lucky, I'm not an animal.

That's the second one. Somebody tell me what is the picture of number three meaning? What's the meaning?

I will drink tea, you will raise your hand when you figure it out. Wow. When you are supposed to be silent, you are not.

When you are supposed to make noise, you are silent. Wait, Dennis is going to tell us. Oh, I'm sorry, go ahead.

Wait, the microphone is not working. Okay. I was not born as too rich that I was too bored to watch TV all day long.

That's later. That's a later one. What's this one?

Oh, so I was not born with addictions? Yeah, like hungry ghost. So this woman, is she hungry ghost or not?

Not yet. She's not yet. Good answer.

Who said that? Good answer. She said not yet.

She's making the cause to become hungry ghost. Okay. Like Geshe Michael with the yo-tel.

Okay. So the picture is not hungry ghost. It's the cause of a hungry ghost.

Hungry ghost is much worse. Who can explain the next one? What's the picture and why is it there?

I'll give you a clue. There are three of them. Di, di, di, di, di.

Señor Gutierrez. No, sorry. Somebody else got it.

[Speaker 2]
I'm not born in a hell realm.

[Speaker 1]
Yeah, I was not born.

[Speaker 2]
Where I have to be burned or freeze.

[Speaker 1]
Yeah, I'm not in a hell. Burning, freezing, and there's a third kind of hell.

[Speaker 2]
Yeah.

[Speaker 1]
Hell in this world. Yeah, pockets. Small areas on this world which are very similar to hell.

Like Syria right now. Like Syria right now. That's why the picture is Syrian refugees and they think they're in Hungary.

Hungary train station. What's that? Budapest.

Okay, few weeks ago. Okay. Who can explain the next picture to me?

Yes, we have one lady here. Very brave. Thank you.

[Speaker 2]
There are Buddhas who came in this planet, in this world before. And now we still have Lama, like you, teaching us.

[Speaker 1]
Very good. So we are very lucky. Okay, so I'm not born on a planet where no Buddha came.

Then I put the picture of a primitive man, but it could also be a businessman in New York. Okay? They are like that inside.

Okay? They are like, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop. Okay, about Dharma.

All right? Okay. Who can explain next one, number six?

I haven't been born into a country or a planet where the Dharma is not accessible. It's on the internet and it's available to all of us. Good.

What are the two photos? Oh, the Knowledge Base and Asian Classics. Yeah, okay.

I use the Knowledge Base all the time.

[Speaker 2]
Yeah, good.

[Speaker 1]
I'm contributing to Jamie. All right. So, there's 5,000 teachings on the Knowledge Base.

There's 10,000 pages of teachings on ACI website. Okay. So you can't say, I don't have Dharma in my country or in my world.

You have. You have too much. If you listen to them for the rest of your life, you can't finish.

Okay? All right? Okay.

Number seven. Who can explain that? The young girl with the blue eyes.

[Speaker 2]
Well, I haven't been born with any disabilities. I can see. I can hear.

I can think. I can study.

[Speaker 1]
Yeah, good. Good. I wasn't born with a handicap which affects my mind.

Okay? Like some... We have in my town, there's a school for people with mental handicap and they bring them...

I have one restaurant in my town. The Chinese people, you can come one day, okay? We have breakfast together.

It's the only restaurant in my town. They close at two o'clock. They stop serving breakfast at eleven.

I always go there at 10.55. But sometimes those people will come in. That group will come in. Their teacher will bring them.

And they have to lead them in, put them down, put the fork in their hand, say, okay, eat, you know. And it's very sad to watch them. I'm not like that.

Okay? My mind is working clearly and it's temporary like your eyesight. First your...

What is it, Phil? What did you say? First your ears go a little bit and then your eyes go a little bit and then you start forgetting things.

Alright? To have this ability to think clearly is temporary and you will lose it. So use it now.

Okay? Use it while you can. It doesn't last forever.

Why? Because it comes from seeds. You planted seeds to have a clear mind and every hour you have it you're using up the seeds.

I was listening to Mr. Woo. He said, what's the proof I had a last life? You know, I put my hand on my bed and I can feel the warmth of the dog was there.

So I cannot see the dog on my bed but logically I can understand the dog was on my bed five minutes ago. Then many, many, many Americans come to me, I don't believe past life. Give me proof for past life.

The best one is, you're alive now. Understand? The mouth you use to criticize past life is proof of your past life.

Get it? Okay, anyway. Anyway.

Okay, you can use that argument sometimes. Okay, next picture. It's a guy surfing the TV.

Channel? Channel surfing. Yes, please.

I'm lucky enough. I was born in the same town as Mr. Woo. At the same time, I graduated from the same middle school as Mr. Woo. My family was so rich and so poor. Normal family. So I can study English, I can study Spanish, I can study Boddha.

Thank you. Yay, thank you. Okay, so I like what he said.

I'm in the middle. I wasn't born so poor that I have to go crazy. I don't have to go working all the time, in a factory or something.

But I wasn't born so rich that I have so much money that I don't have normal problems. And also, I didn't learn since I was young to waste my time. With a fancy restaurant.

My mom told us, you can play sport or you can go to movie, but you have to choose one. We don't have enough money for both. She told me that.

You can go swimming or you can go to movie, but when you choose one, you will never do the other. So I chose the swimming. We can go swimming anytime we want, but we never went to movie.

So that's good. I didn't waste my time. So, I wasn't born...

By the way, that's not a real deva. That's not a real deva realm. It's just example so you can understand.

There are people richer than the richest person in this world. They really waste their time. But you can't see them.

So I just tried to put a picture of somebody you can see. But there are other ones that you cannot see. They are wasting their time even better.

Okay. Now we're going to go to the five conditions inside of myself. Who can tell me why that lady is going like that?

Who is she? Raise your hand. Use the microphone.

Okay, Rony. She's human. Yes, that's all.

She's human. Okay, these are positive, right? These are positive.

The first eight are negative. I wasn't born animal. I wasn't born a hell.

I wasn't born too rich. So this lady is positive. She's human.

I'll teach you later, but she's a special kind of human. Not too happy, not too sad. That's perfect.

If you have some problems. Did you hear people, the doctors say you have cancer or they say your house burned down yesterday. This morning your house burned down.

The first thing American person will say is, Why me? Why me? Why me?

If they call you and say, you won the lottery today. Nobody says, Why me? Why me?

It's good if we have little problems in our life. Then we start to think, where does this come from? And why me?

Why me? Why this time? Okay, next one, next page.

There's that new handsome groom leading a class in Russia I think. Okay. He looks much more handsome now because he got married.

He's more happy. Okay. What's the meaning?

What's that picture mean? Nobody knows? Yeah, okay, let's go.

There's one. I've been born in a country where there is Dharma and people are practicing. Yeah, yeah.

There's a real example. Even in Russia. Until recently it was difficult to find any Buddhism in Russia.

Now you can just go to Moscow or St. Petersburg. Maria will teach you or Peter will teach you. Anybody can learn.

So I have Dharma. I have Dharma. Okay, next one.

The lady's eyes. Picture of the lady's eyes. So my idea by putting these pictures is to make the printing as expensive as possible.

No, not really. My idea was when you're meditating for three days, you just look at the picture, you will remember. The picture will tell the story.

What's this picture about? Wait, raise your hand. Use the microphone.

Tony's ready. Candy's ready. Candy's closer.

Kelly. Wait, wait, wait, it's coming.

[Speaker 2]
I have all my body with me, senses.

[Speaker 1]
Yeah, good, good. My eyes work well. My ears work well.

I don't have other handicap. I can learn. Okay, good.

There was, yeah, okay. Next picture. There's a girl going like this.

In America, when you're angry, you go, this is the mudra. There are many mudras. Argam.

Say argam. Padyam. Pushpe.

Sorry. Pushpe. Dupe.

Aloke. Gende. Nude.

Shabda. And there are other ones. But what's this one?

This means I'm angry. In America, I don't know China, but in America it's like you should do this and this. Okay, so that's the picture.

Why is that picture there? Who can tell me? It's a girl and her mother.

Yeah, is there a microphone?

[Speaker 2]
I've never done the five, committed the five big sins of killing father, mother, and killing your heart, drawing blood from your mother, and causing schism in the community.

[Speaker 1]
Great, great. She has good notes, I think. Thank you for that.

That's a good job. Fifth one. Little boy.

He's going like this. He's going like this. What's the meaning?

[Speaker 2]
Have faith and respect for the teacher.

[Speaker 1]
Yeah, good. Good. There are places in the world where they study Buddhism.

In the college. They will study for six months or one year. What do Buddhist people think?

What is the history of Buddhism? What are the great books of Buddhism? But they don't respect it.

They just study it. You see what I mean? They are not Buddhist even themselves.

They just study it and they don't really respect it. And they don't believe it. So I'm not like that.

I have some karma that when I... There's two signs, okay? In the scripture.

When I hear a good teaching on gong shing, emptiness or something like that, I feel like that. Like we call... What do you call?

My hair stand up. Actually, I don't have... But I'm like...

Or start to cry. Start to cry. Some people told me, Geshe-la, when I meditate I start to cry and I feel...

It's a problem. What should I do? I said, no, no, you are lucky.

You are lucky. It means you have... had a lot of faith in the Dharma.

Now when you hear it, you're like, oh, oh, so cool. Like when you hear Jimi Hendrix. Okay.

Alright. Next. Now five conditions outside.

Five conditions outside of myself. Will gave me a great Jimi Hendrix poster. I'll show you if I think about it later.

Okay. These are the five outside of ourselves. Number one and number two, both are here with like Guanyin or Tara, I don't know.

Who can tell me? What's going on? Wait, Dennis can do it.

Let's do Dennis. Stanley can do everything, it's alright. What's this picture supposed to represent?

Two different things. That we're indirectly we're born into a world with Buddhas. Good way you started the answer.

And then like directly we can see that in the teachers around us. Yeah, that's the first one. What's the second one here?

Same picture. I used one picture for both. Let's see.

Oh, the teaching? Yeah, they taught. They said something.

Nobody crucified them early or they had a chance to. How many Buddhas and great teachers were killed? Jesus went back to his hometown.

He taught in his own synagogue. The people grabbed him and took him up on a mountain and tried to throw him off and kill him. That was long, that was right after he's, he was young.

So we are lucky that Buddhas came and we are lucky they had a chance to say something. And it was recorded. Okay?

Okay. What's the picture of those smiling people in, I think it's Beijing or Shanghai? Shanghai I think.

Guangzhou. Sorry. The biggest and best city in the world.

And somebody's also typing something. So what's going on there?

[Speaker 2]
It means that the Dharma is still alive. The first picture in Guangzhou is in people's heart and second, the computer is also in physical form.

[Speaker 1]
Yeah, nice. Yeah. That's a great answer.

Okay? That's why there's two pictures there. Okay?

One is the Dharma exists in those people's heart who came to the program. And because of Vivian and Jasmine working so hard who brought me to China the first, in the first place, thank you for that. And who found Stanley and shopping and other good things.

Okay. And then we are saving the books. Okay?

Okay. All right. Next one, number four.

Je Tsongkapa's face. Okay. Je Tsongkapa's face.

[Speaker 2]
We still have the Dharma, pure lineage that is passing down.

[Speaker 1]
Yeah. Okay. I would say it differently.

If it was me, I would say it differently. We have more pure lineage than 2,000 years ago. Okay.

It's amazing. Okay. Our lineage is super lineage.

Okay. Lineage means you are preserving the teachings. But our lineage refined them.

Okay. Our lineage made them more available to people. Okay.

People cannot read, the oldest book in the world, printed book with a date, is the Jing Kang Jing. Su, do you want to put it up there? You have it up there?

I don't know. From China. From Dunhuang.

Oldest book in the world. Printed book. But nobody can read it.

Okay. Like it's difficult to read it. So we are lucky.

We have teachers who can explain it in a business book or in a talk for Muslim people in Dubai and like that. It got better. The teaching got more modern.

But same information. Okay. Same information, modern package.

Okay. Number five. There's a very beautiful cafeteria.

Tony. Tony's here. He's the next victim, I mean he's the next groom.

[Speaker 2]
Can I say that we have Diamond Mountain here, beautiful cafeteria supported by Mr. Wu and we have VCI, ACI teaching in Diamond Mountain and also the manageable base on physical form as well as in internet. Yeah. That's all we have.

[Speaker 1]
Yeah. And we have people who are willing to pay for it. And actually the capital city of the Diamond in the world.

Yeah. And so it's one karma to have Dharma, but it's a different karma to have people who will work hard and build this cafeteria for us. You see.

There are two different seats. Okay. We have both.

We have both seats. We didn't have them last year. Okay.

We are sitting on the ground out there eating together And we are fighting with the flies and the wild pig. Who's going to eat first? Okay, now we have a cafeteria.

Okay, now I want to teach you something new. I will give you more detail after the retreat. But in the LAM RIM, Steps of the Path, that Lama Pabongka Rinpoche, he mentions some other good luck we have.

But he just gives the number. He doesn't tell us what they are. So I went and got them for you.

So nobody put it in the LAM RIM. I have to go find it. And I found it.

Now, some of them overlap with the ones we had before. So don't be confused. Some of them are very similar to the other ones.

But I want you to have all of them. When you add all of them, there's 40 different meditations. Because I have to keep you busy for three days.

Otherwise, you will try to find the hill where your cell phone works. I can tell you. For $100, I can tell you.

If you see me on a hill like that, you will know which one it is. There's one hill in that valley. Okay.

It's not much money. We worked so hard to find a place where there's no cell phone towers. This is like the only place left in the world, I think.

Really, it's one of the only places in the world where a cell phone cannot reach. We worked very hard to find this place. Okay.

So I'm going to just teach them to you. Okay, ready? That picture, Geshe Michael, 1979, in the newspaper.

His Lama is teaching him debate. It's 31 plus, 36 years ago. It means this path takes time.

To become a good teacher. One guy came, I won't say his name. He asked me, can you come to China for three days and teach my staff how to teach Niguma Yoga?

I was sitting with John Brady and Connie. I said, well, you know, John studied seven years ACI courses in New York in the 1990s. Then in the 2000s he did seven years of Tantra, advanced course, 10,000 pages.

Then after that he finished the YSI courses, which were 16 courses in New York City. He finished that. That took about six years.

Then he did three year retreat. Seven plus seven plus six plus three is seven. 21 years.

Can I do that in three days? No. He got mad at me.

You want my people to study for 21 years? I said no. No, I mean, in this system, to be a good teacher, it takes many years of hard work.

I cannot give you 200 hour certificate, which you can buy in some places in two weeks, or three weeks. It doesn't happen in this system. You must work hard for years.

To do that, Joe has to give you a strong body, which will live for 21 years. You see what I mean? That's the first meditation you're going to do.

Joe, these next eight are all from Joe. These next eight are all from Joe. Joe gave me a long life, so I can learn everything I need to learn.

I don't, in the DCI program in Singapore, or Beijing, or Mexico City, I don't tell them, it's going to take 21 years, because they will all quit. But you guys, I can mention it. But you're going to need a healthy life, a long healthy life, to practice.

To really be a great teacher, it's going to take time. It's not something I can teach you in a few months. Alright, next.

Next page is very interesting, this one. These are the DCI teachers with Ruby and Ben in Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh City. She's a very beautiful lady on the right.

This is all the teachers on the stage. They're going to answer questions. They come from many countries.

But if I'm a new person in Ho Chi Minh City, and by the way, we need a meeting with them, okay Jigme? We need a Vietnam meeting at the end of the week. Where's Jigme?

You have to remember, okay? Ben asked me. The thing about these teachers is, if I'm sitting in the audience, I never came to this teaching.

They are talking about very strange things. You can get rich with this pen. You can make your husband wash the dishes if you understand this pen.

Then everybody's like, this is so weird. Who are these people? Why did I pay to come to this?

But they will say, but when they all stand on the stage, they look like serious people. The women look like business executives. Scott is so handsome.

Georgie's arms are like that. Yvonne is a very successful businessman. Jamie is super handsome.

The audience think, the idea is a little bit unusual, but these people look, they look like serious people. They are not like hippies on the stage. So, Joe gave you a nice body.

Joe gave you birth in a country where you can buy nice clothes. Those refugees have one pair of clothes. But you have ten or twenty.

The ones you don't wear are twenty, or thirty, or fifty, I don't know. How many pairs of shoes you have you don't wear? You have enough money and Joe gave you a nice body that when you get up on a DCI talk, people will say, they look pretty cool.

They look pretty serious people. That's a good karma. Joe gave you a karma to have enough money, you have enough time, and you know how to present yourself.

You have education, you know how to answer questions, like that. Joe gave you the equipment that people will think you're a serious teacher. Is it good to judge the teacher from their appearance?

No. If you do, you break a bodhisattva vow. But those people don't know anything and if they see someone looks nice, they will believe what they say.

You see? So, it's not good to judge the teacher. I'll tell you a story.

I found a very rare book about Buddhist lodging. It came from a monastery called Rathu. The old abbot of Rathu is a friend of my teacher.

So I went to him and I said, I found this rare book from your monastery. All copies are gone in the world. This is the last copy.

Let's print it together. He said, okay, let's do it. Then we did put it on the computer.

It's a very big book. Then he said, can you just go to my lama and have them check the spelling and everything? It's like 500 pages.

I said, who's your lama? He said, the abbot of Tashi Lhumbo. This is Panchen Lama's monastery.

Then he said, you go to the abbot of Tashi Lhumbo and you ask him to check it. Then I will pay to print it. Then I'm happy.

Then I went to that monastery and I said, I'm supposed to meet the abbot. This High Rinpoche said, I can come meet the abbot. They said, okay, you can meet the abbot.

Then they took me in the waiting room. I'm waiting for the abbot. There's one monk in the corner.

He's on a bed, but the bed is made of straw, of grass, grass bed, just grass. He lives on this bed, grass bed. His robes are very dirty and old, very dirty and old.

He's sitting like this with his legs. There are like four or five small puppy dogs on his lap. They are pee-pee and they are poo.

He's feeding them milk. He said, the mother died and I'm taking care of them. But also he talked like that.

Because his teeth are all rotten. Then I thought, oh, he's the servant of the abbot. So I'm waiting for the abbot.

Then the other monk came in and he said, did you finish? I said, no, we didn't start. He said, well, didn't you talk to the abbot?

I said, no, I didn't go into his office yet. He said, this is the abbot's office. He's the abbot.

He's Geshe Thubten Rinchen's tantric teacher. My highest lama's teacher. You know.

Then we worked on the book together. Half of what he said, I don't know what. He talked, bluf, bluf, bluf, bluf, bluf, bluf, bluf, bluf, bluf, bluf, bluf, bluf, bluf, bluf, bluf.

Then, okay. So human people, they will judge the other person from their appearance. appearance.

So when we teach Dharma, we should fit the appearance of those people who we are teaching, okay? If they like rock and roll, we should play rock and roll. If they want a yoga teacher, we should wear Katie's yoga line.

If they want a businessman, we should dress as a businessman. Oh Geshe-la, you're a monk, you should wear a robe. When Buddha taught Tantra, he put on silk and gold and diamonds, okay?

Because those people he's teaching are kings. You see what I mean? Kalachakra was taught to a king first time, okay?

It's like Tantra was taught to President Xi and Obama and, you know. No, really, really. And you don't wear a dirty robe to go talk to President Xi or Obama.

You wear a nice suit, you see? So, we are not allowed to judge our teacher from their appearance. But when we teach Dharma, we should fit the people we are teaching, okay?

I hate ties. I hate ties. One newspaper in New York said Geshe Michael's buying expensive suit, you know.

They criticized me. I said, I bought that suit in Ho Chi Minh on the sidewalk for $75, okay? Really, they say it's from Gucci.

I said, not Gucci, Ho Chi, you know. Okay, then why you wear that? Because people won't respect the Dharma.

You have to, okay? So, Joe gave you suit, body, face, makeup, okay? Joe gave you Sephora, okay?

And Lancome. Really, really, okay? You have to think about it, okay?

And Joe wanted you to use it. Because when you teach, you should look like super businesswoman, okay? Alright, next one.

Joe, this is Connie teaching a large class outside of Beijing, I think. That beautiful lake, right? Jessica?

Guo? Guo Lao Su? Where are you?

Yeah, she's there. So, then you can't be a good teacher if you don't have basic education, you see. If no one taught you how to read, no one taught you how to talk, you never took examinations, you know, you don't have any money to go to school, your country doesn't have any schools.

How many public schools were there in Tibet? Zero, okay? None.

My Lama came from Gerong College. There are twelve colleges in Sera Mey. He came from Gerong College, okay?

There are 500 monks in Gerong College in Tibet. How many can read? Sorry, how many can write?

One or two, okay? They can debate, they can memorize, they can read the scripture, they cannot write, okay? So, you're not like that.

You grew up in a country which has good education, then you can be a good teacher, because you went to the school, they tortured you for 15 years, and you can write, you can use computer, you have those skills, okay? Alright, that's the next one. Okay, next one.

I was, in my country where I grew up, there was a good ethic principle, okay? For example, in China you have Confucius teaching, you have Dao teaching, Lao Tzu's teaching, even Communist Party teaching is about how to behave correctly, don't hurt people, help other people. This is part of Chinese culture.

In America, and in Mexico, Europe, we have a Christian culture from the Jewish culture, and the Roman and Greek culture, and they taught you don't kill people, don't lie, don't steal. Ten commandments, right? Same as Buddhism in China.

Okay, so we are lucky we grew up in a country where we were taught integrity, be honest to other people. Jesus said, treat other people like you want them to treat you, and Buddha said the same thing, okay? Then we are so lucky to grow up in those two systems, because they say the same thing, okay?

Western culture, Eastern culture, they both say, be good to other people, help other people. You know Genghis Khan? Genghis Khan, 1200, yeah, 800 years ago, he took over the whole world.

Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iran, Persia, Korea, China, Russia, Austria, okay? Yeah, then how did he do that? He was tough, super tough, crazy tough, worse than Iron Man, okay?

Why? Why? When he was a child, the other family in Mongolia invite his family to dinner and put poison in all the food, so they can take their house, okay?

Imagine a country like that. Your neighbor says, come to dinner, I will cook some nice dom sing or something, okay? Then they purposely they put poison in it, and they kill your whole family, and they take your house, okay?

That was the culture in their country, that was the, everybody was doing that, you know? Then his mother and him, they didn't die, they didn't eat enough. Then they they took their house and they they run to the forest, and he grew up like an animal in the forest.

He has to find food in the forest, you know? He and his mother, that's how he became so tough, crazy, he was crazy. He lived like a wolf for 15 years, you know, like that.

We don't live in that kind of world, okay? Nobody invite you to shimbhaka and put poison in the coffee. No, but there are places like that, okay?

There are, in history there are places like that, okay? Your friend will try to poison you so they can have your car, okay? There are places like that, okay?

We don't live in that kind of place, okay? I put the diamond cutter book there in Greek language because it also means you grew up in a, when we printed that book and we went to Athens two weeks ago? Three weeks ago?

Something like that. They said, Geshe-la, you're so lucky, we printed your book now. I said, why?

John and Carol paid for it. I said, why? They said, this is the last book they're going to print in Greece for a while.

I said, why? They said, there's no paper. There's no paper in Greece, you know?

You cannot print a book in Greece today, you know? There's no paper, you know? So, we don't live in a place like that, okay?

Alright? We are lucky. Okay, number five.

Geshe-la, you have to hurry up. Okay, I'm trying. This is a picture of Stanley, this is a picture of Orit Laosha teaching a nice Chinese group about a month ago in New Zealand.

So, they are very wealthy people. Why did they go to New Zealand? They want to jump out of airplanes to a beautiful place.

Okay, then that was her, she and Scott and Stanley and John Brady and Yi Yi and Zheng Zhen, they went there and they taught them. Then I was a little bit nervous. They said, Geshe-la, you come.

I said, no, I promised my Lama I will be here for that time. I cannot go, you know? I have responsibility to my Lama.

When I'm here, I serve my Lama. In Arizona, I serve my Lama. I don't do anything else.

My friend says, come to dinner. I say, no, I can't. If Lama doesn't need me, I'll come to dinner.

When will you know if Lama needs you? I don't know. I'm just telling you because this is the program for next week.

So, anyway, they went to New Zealand. They gave, how many days? Three, four days?

Four days teaching and the people loved it. They went crazy. Then they were Dharma rock stars.

All of the China team and the American team, like together, Dharma rock stars. I got, the guy called me on the phone. He said, oh my god, thank you for sending these people.

Everything they say is like genius. The translators are perfect. It's unbelievable.

He called me, this big, big guy. Joe gave those six people the karma that when they talk, people will believe them. It means Joe didn't lie.

Joe was careful not to lie. Then everyone believe you in this life. Sometimes you tell a lie, everyone believe you.

Sometimes you tell the truth, nobody believes you. It's all karma. It doesn't matter what you say.

It's your seeds. If you have good seeds, you can sit up here and tell stories and everyone say, oh Geshe-la, thank you so much. Then if you have bad seeds, you can explain kongshin clearly to people and they say you are crazy.

It's just your seeds. So Joe gave you good seeds that people will believe you, what you say. Of course you should say the correct thing also.

Alright, number six. Then in my world there's a lot of harmony. I've been in Dharma business for 45 years.

I served my Lama for 25 years, like Dharma slave. All the laundry, all the gardening, all cleaning the toilets, driving all that, everything. I have to make all the money.

He didn't know that the telephone is not free when you call to bed. He's like, talk for an hour, you know. And then I'm like, oh my god.

He didn't know there's a phone bill. I always intercept the phone bill from the mail. He never saw it, you know.

Then I saw many students in my life. He had hundreds of students. He taught for 60 years or something.

Then I saw good students and I saw bad students, you know. Many students came and left and many students stayed. Then sometimes the students are fighting with each other and sometimes they are sweet to each other.

Okay, I saw both in my life and in my own students I saw both. Like DCI right now, we are like unbelievable good friends and when we travel together it's like a family. When I come home I feel lonely, you know.

Where's Stanley? Where's Gyorgy? Where's Masha?

Where's Peter? You know, I feel like, you know, I left my home when I come home. And the harmony is so beautiful, okay.

So, Joe gave you that, okay. There's a nice sweet harmony here with all the translation team and you're so lucky. So Joe did a good job, okay.

It could be you're jealous of each other, you're competing with each other, it could be you are backbiting each other, you know. But you have some karma that Joe gave you inside that group and that's temporary. You can lose it, okay.

So take good care of it, okay. Be happy. How do you keep the harmony that you have?

You go on a three-day retreat, you sit on your meditation cushion and you say, Joe, you talk to Joe, okay. You did a really good job. Thank you.

Then you are planting new harmony, you see what I mean? So by doing this retreat you will have more, you won't lose these things, you see. If you're happy about them, they grow more, okay.

So that's why we are doing retreat, okay. I live in a good country. Be happy about it.

Then the country will keep going, you see what I mean? I have good friends. Oh, be happy about it, because you plant new hours with them, you see what I mean?

Okay, this is a system, what do you call? Reinvestment system. Okay, so you see Scott having harmony with, where is she from?

Austria? Vienna, okay. All right, we kind of have to go fast because it's going to get dark and I don't want you to, no, let's finish.

Number seven, my past life gave me courage and preservation, okay. When I get a problem, when things go wrong, when we have big, big troubles in our group, or in our programs, or in building, you know, when a big spider comes into your cabin and sleeps on your bed with you, okay. You are tough, okay.

Joe made you tough, okay. Joe made you super tough, okay. You're like, I don't care if 50 spiders come, I'm not leaving, okay.

This is not like Beijing subway, this is Diamond Mountain. We are tough, you know. We don't care if there's spiders, you know.

We're going to meditate. It's hot, or my toilet smells like, I don't care, I'm tough, okay. I'm going to stay here.

Then I put the picture as John Brady coming, it's the minute that he came out of three-year retreat, okay. That's the minute that he came out of three-year retreat, okay. And they had a hard three-year retreat, and you know the story, there was a big tragedy here, there was a big trouble here, there was a big problem here, and I'll tell you this story someday.

Somebody died, one student died, and it was a very terrible tragedy, and a lot of newspaper problems, and a lot of internet problems, and then those people were in a three-year retreat, you know, and I went inside, I said, you want to come out now? You know, they said no. Why?

Why should we come out? We are helping the world inside the retreat, you know. So, there's a big problem or very serious problem, we will stay, okay.

If everyone died, I will stay. You see, like that. So, you have to be like that, very tough.

Who made you tough? Joe, okay. Problem comes, there's a joke in the Dharma, when you start to study like this, here's the ocean, you know, you are putting your head up.

So, if you don't just watch internet, TV, your whole life, you try to do some Dharma, then a demon is waiting for those people. You know, okay. Those people who watch TV for five hours a day, average American, five hours a day, they are like this.

Then the demon, the demon had a meeting, you know. What should we do about them? Don't say anything, leave them alone.

They are doing exactly what we like, you know. They're not thinking about anything, they're not helping anybody, they are using up old karma, you know. Leave them alone.

But when you start to try to do retreat, or you try to do some Dharma, they will, they, I don't know, it smells like honey to a bee, okay, and they will come to you, and they will give you trouble. Okay, really. Then Joe has to give you some strength, okay, from your past life.

Okay, my, we had a fire here, big fire came, quickly, during the three years retreat. It burned, I don't know, it burned the 300 miles. How many kilometers, Ben Gomi?

Quick. Come on, you're from Europe. It burned 500 kilometers land.

Here, right here. Then it started to come to Diamond Mountain. It's very close.

Then the police all come, the army is here, and they say, we will take you out. We said, just wait, just wait until it reached the border of Diamond Mountain. Because we did the ceremony to protect the border of the retreat, which we are going to do in one hour, or less.

So, we were waiting, and the flames were very high, like hundreds of feet high, and it's coming like a person walking, this fast. You can see the fires jumping from tree to tree. It doesn't touch the ground in some place.

It's so powerful. Then you know the end of this story. It reached the border of Diamond Mountain, boop, nothing happened, you know, it stopped.

The whole fire stopped. The police are like, what happened? He said, don't worry about it.

Okay. It means, I asked them, you want to run now? You want to run away?

We have bus ready for them. No, we stay here. Okay, tough.

Joe made you tough. Okay, all right. Number eight, my past life gave me great physical and mental health, and that makes me have a lot of energy and joy.

Then I put a picture of Ivan Ilyaev from Bulgaria, super joyful guy. That's his big smile, and that's a picture in Beijing hotel. We are doing yoga in the courtyard.

If you, Joe gave you great happy capacity, you know, you are, it's easy to make you happy. Okay, and you have energy, you know. People ask me, what do you have for breakfast?

I say a banana, you know, and they say, you know, that's all? I said, yeah, I have a banana. Until after yoga I have a banana, you know, and then they're like, why?

I said, I don't know, it's enough. It makes me happy, you know. So Joe gave you this energy, you know, strong energy to do your practice, to do your career with great energy, and then be happy.

Okay, Joe gave you that. Okay, don't get tired. Now, there are seven more, okay.

Pabongka Rinpoche mentioned them, but he doesn't tell you what they are. So I went and got them for you. Some of them are the same as before, some are different.

Okay, so I put them here. First one, you were born into a good family, you got a good education, and they taught you to be a nice person, okay, honest person. Your parents taught you to be a good person.

Okay, number one. Number two, Joe, sorry, you have enough money and you have a healthy body that when you teach people, they think you, they're attracted to you. Okay, it's very similar to the one we had before.

Okay, so I put the, there's Stanley and Kendra's coming at the end of the week. I mean Kendra and her new friend. She's pregnant.

So, you know, they look nice and people listen to them. Okay, next one. Number three, your country has enough money to have 1,200 people been...

First program in Vietnam, 1,200 people. This is a picture. Yeah, yeah.

So Ruby and Vin, raise your hand, raise your hand. That's their first program. I think second program going to be 100,000 people?

Something. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But if your country doesn't have money to put 1,000 people in a room, you cannot teach.

Okay, so Joe gave you, what's the hotel name? White Palace? Joe gave us the White Palace Hotel in Ho Chi Minh.

Okay, and like that. Okay, Joe gave us Guangzhou, Shanghai, Beijing. Okay, Joe gave us those places.

Okay, and enough money in the country to do this Dharma. Okay, we are lucky. That's the most beautiful picture.

I really like it. It was a beautiful place. It's a real palace here.

Number four, I was born with integrity and leadership. Okay, so leadership means people do what you ask them to do. Some people have it, some people don't have it.

Who gave it to you? Joe gave it to you. Okay, some people say, I don't know, let's have a diamond-cutter reading club in Shanghai, like Wang Xia did this unbelievable, where are you?

Yeah, unbelievable job, unbelievable. Organize all these students and young cool people, and people follow her. Okay, why?

Joe. Okay, Joe. Okay, she has leadership.

Who gave it to her? Joe gave it to her. Okay, so you have to thank Joe.

Okay, alright. Next one, the quality of leadership is the karma. Okay, how do you get it by the way?

Share your power. Share your power. Okay, if you're boss at work, give the workers all power, even the power to pass you.

Okay, if you want to be a really powerful leader, give other people the power to be higher than you. Okay, and that karma means that people will believe you. I was watching a certain dancing teacher today, and she asked her student, what shall we do?

Like, she treated her student with great respect, and listened to the student, and asked for a suggestion, and I was watching them, and I thought that's why this person has karma, to be a leader, because they share their power with other people. Okay, it's difficult to do. Usually we are jealous, or selfish, or we are afraid of competition, but if you share power, then you will be a leader.

Okay, the karma, that's the karma. Okay, next, I have a sharp mind, I can meditate, I can study. When someone explains to the pen to me, I don't fall asleep.

Okay, like I'm interested. Okay, then I put Gyorgy Khadri off from Dharma headquarters, Dharma major country called Bulgaria. Okay, because he's super intelligent guy, he owns a very successful computer company.

You know Facebook has this thing where you put, I put a picture on Facebook, a little square comes, and then it says Geshe Michael's in the photo. Okay, you can blame Gyorgy. Okay, like he helps invent those things.

Okay, super smart guy. Okay, to be honest, the people who are interested in Dharma, they are usually the super smart people. I mean, I'm not just praising all of us, but you have to have high intelligence to be interested in this stuff.

Okay, so generally all of our students are very special people. Okay, the people who did three-year retreat, I think two PhDs in computer, one medical doctor, three medical degrees, airline pilot, advertising executive, like special people, all unusual people, very unusual people. Okay, a high degree of intelligence.

Okay, Joe gave you that. Okay, without that you cannot, you won't even be interested about the pen. Okay, you don't care.

Why is this guy talking about the pen? I was in this country, I won't say which one, and I cannot criticize any country now because we are in every country. So anyway, one, I talked for like two hours about how to make money, which is to help other people to make money, and then one lady raised her hand, she said, Geshe Michael, I said what?

I didn't pay to come to this conference to learn how to give money away. I came here to learn how to make more money. Then everybody in the audience is like, only one person didn't understand anything.

Okay, the only way to make money is to help other people make money. But she didn't understand. She wanted her money back.

I didn't come here to learn to give away money. Then I'm like, Joe! Okay, alright.

You can also blame Joe for all your problems. Next one is Venerable Jigme, teaching Dharma. She's my student for, I don't know how many years, how many years?

I don't want to exaggerate, I wouldn't want to do that. 22 years. Okay, so she had, Joe gave her a long life.

Many people come, I watched my Lama students for 25 years. Many people come for three years, four years, then slowly they're not interested anymore. Okay, so their karma wear out.

In the beginning they're, I want to meditate every day, I want to become a nun, you know, they're very excited for a while and then it wears out. The karma finished. Okay, and then they're like, I don't know why I came to that desert place, waste my time for three years, you know, what, why did I do that?

You know, I don't remember. So that karma can also wear out. To be interested in this thing can wear out.

So if you are lucky, Joe gives you a long life and many years where you think it's cool to meditate. Okay, and it doesn't wear out. Many people it wears out.

Okay, next one. Guess who this picture is while I drink tea? Yeah, it's Aaron and Nick.

Okay, so Joe gave me good health and I didn't have any serious illness in my life. Okay, I had colds, you know, I had stomach problems, you know, I went to India. In the old days, when people go from China to India, they have to give gold mandala to get the teaching.

Nowadays you just have to give diarrhea. Okay, if you go there you'll get diarrhea for several weeks. Okay, this is the cost of the Dharma.

But you are lucky, you didn't get cancer, you know, you didn't get in a bad car accident, cut off your, you know, you are lucky. You didn't get any, you can do yoga, you know, you can meditate. How long will you be able to sit up straight on a meditation cushion?

That's also karma, okay, and it will wear out and your back will start to go like that. And the Lama will say, sit up, and you say, I am. Okay, no, because it wears out, the back wears out.

You know, people are like, I don't have time to meditate today. Don't think you're going to have time later, because your body will not cooperate. Your body will change.

You know, sit up straight while you can sit up straight, because later you won't be able to. Okay, Joe gave you a good body. Okay, Joe didn't give me a body that I can do this pose, but it's okay.

All right, last thing, ultima causa. There's called the four great wheels. I'll teach you later why, but these are the last four, okay.

Number one, in my environment it's easy to study and practice. The place is a good place to practice, and I have good friends around me, okay. The country, the city, it's a good place, okay.

I got Starbucks nearby, Shimbako, you know, I have my good friends that are around me, you know, so place and friends I have, okay. Then I put a picture of Jenny Wong with, this is the Indonesia team, okay, new team this year. The leader is in the middle, his name is Sugeng Shi, and they are so cool group.

You know ukulele? Ukulele, dik dik dik dik dik dik dik. They play ukulele together, this Dharma group, okay.

When they go visit the old people they are all, dik dik dik dik dik dik, and they are super happy, and they support each other, okay? So we are lucky to have nice place, nice city, nice country, and good friends, okay? Good friends.

Dharma friends, okay? What's a dik drok? Do you guys know a dik drok?

Yeah, bad friend, okay? Bad friend. They bring a bottle of tequila to the Dharma event and they say, come on, let's have some fun, and they get everybody in trouble, okay?

Then that's a bad friend, okay? And these are good friends. Play ukulele together, all people are happy, okay?

It's moral, it's good morality, okay? All right, next one. I have good teachers and good friends, okay?

So I have teachers. When I was in Russia, this strange guy came to me, he's some, I don't know, he's famous sculptor, he makes sculpture, metal, and he said, Geshe Michael, I want to make your sculpture, I want to do you. Then he made the president of the UN and many famous people, and then I got a little pride, you know, I'm like, then I control myself.

Then I said, you know, I always wanted to make a sculpture of my teacher. For many years I couldn't meet a good sculptor guy. So, can you make a sculpture of my teacher and I will pay you.

So, he made this nice sculpture of my teacher, okay? It's going to come soon, I hope. It's done, it's finished, okay?

But we are so lucky to have a teacher, okay? All right, next page. I have wisdom in my heart, I want to reach freedom, and that gives me joy, okay?

That gives me joy. Can I tell your story one more time Vivian? It's okay?

Can I tell, okay. I told this story many times. I was in a coffee shop in Hong Kong, this lady asked me, can I meet you?

I said, yeah, okay. Then she came to the coffee shop, then the bags under her eyes are about like that, you know, and she's like, I said, what is your job? Where do you live?

I live in Guangzhou, China. What do you do? I work in television, but I'm so tired, you know, and I said, well, what do you want to talk to me about?

She said, will you come to China? I said, I never went to China. She said, I will help you.

She said, if you come to China, I will help you. Then we started. Then today I was with some guy, yeah, he's over there, and I said, I'm going to talk to Vivian today, and he said, who's Vivian?

And I said, you know, that one in the white coat, and he said, oh, that young lady? You know, he said that young lady, the pretty one? You know, I said, yeah.

I said, recently she came to the program in Germany with your daughter? Yeah, she came with her, was it Germany? Singapore, sorry.

She came with her daughter to the program in Singapore. Somebody asked them, who's the mom, who's the daughter? Okay, so if you study these things, it gives you joy, and the joy makes your face beautiful.

Okay, so I put Vivian's picture. I took this photo in Beijing, and a halo came around her. You see?

There's light all around her, you know. I didn't fix the picture, that's a real picture on the iPhone, but it's Jessica's iPhone, so maybe it's special iPhone. And then Anton in Russia, he's the Russia, Moscow organizer.

Then he has a very beautiful laugh, okay? So, who gave you this beautiful Wei Shao? Who gave it to you?

Joe, okay? Joe gave you that. Alright, next one, number four.

Then why are you here? Why did you come to Diamond Mountain? Who brought you to Diamond Mountain?

Was it the United Airlines or China Air? Joe Air, okay? Joe Airlines brought you, okay?

Don't think it was the airline, don't think you came here in a car, okay? You came here in the Joe-mobile from Joe Airlines, okay? Alright, last two, Ultima Causa, how do you say again in Spanish?

Ultima Causa. Okay, these are the last two meditations you'll be doing, okay? It means you can use the ten, the eight, the seven, the four, and I forget the other one, yeah, another eight.

You can use them to help the whole world, okay? You are future Spider-Man and Spider-Woman, okay? Joe gave you equipment to be a superhero, okay?

Transformers, number one and two and three, okay? You have everything you need to be a superhero, okay? Joe gave you everything.

If you meditate a little bit, study a little bit, do a little bit of yoga, help old people a little bit, then you will become a teacher for the whole world, okay? You have the capacity to be a teacher for the whole world, okay? How do you teach the whole world?

Do you talk good? Do you take many airplanes, okay? Do you go to Hanoi this year?

How do you teach the whole world? Just be a good person, okay? Be a happy person, okay?

It's the most difficult thing in the world, okay? To become a mathematician, to be a rock star, to make a famous movie, to become president of America or China, these are easy, these are easy, okay? To be a happy person is difficult, okay?

It's very difficult to be a happy person, okay? If you make yourself happy with Dharma, then everybody can smell it, okay? You have different smell, okay?

I keep bees, I have bees, okay? They communicate by smell. So, when the queen wants to call somebody, she just puts a certain smell in the air and they all come.

If you kill a bee by accident when you are taking the honey, okay? Like, it doesn't hurt them to take the honey, they like it. But if you kill one by accident, the smell of that cut will make them all crazy.

All of them feel that smell, okay? If you wear a leather shoes or a leather belt, they will bite you, all of them. They will come, 8,000 bees will try to sting you because you killed something.

You are wearing a dead person's skin and they smell it. They are very strange, wonderful animals, okay? Maybe they are dakini, I don't know.

But people can smell if you are happy, okay? Then they're like, we oftentimes, DCI staff, we are in a restaurant or we are on the airplane and people will come over and say, what do you guys do? Can I join your company?

And we're like, you don't even know who we are. Yeah, I don't know who you are. Do you know what we do?

No, I don't know, but I want to join your company. Then we're like, why? And they say, I don't know, just something smells happy about you guys.

Many times, many many times, many airplane stewardesses. One of them invited us next, two weeks from now. We are doing a program for Austrian Airlines because they smelled something on the plane, okay?

Alright? So, your job, if you want to save the world, is what? You have to make yourself super happy and then you will smell sweet unconscious, subconscious sweet smell.

People say, what are you doing? What do you do? How you be so happy?

Okay, so use the, all the things that Joe gave you, use them to be a happy person. And that's the last two things here, okay? Next to the last thing, remember why you are here.

Why are you crazy person staying three days with the spiders in a small little house in the desert? You are trying to be a happy person, so you can help other people, so you can attract other people, okay? The last last one, okay, real Ultima Causa, how do you say real?

Say again? Real, okay. The last thing he said is, okay, when you light incense, stick of incense, is there one there, Chod Zong?

I don't know. Should be, on the balls, in the balls? No?

In the balls there? No? Okay.

When you light a gas, huh? Yeah, maybe 30 minutes, 15 minutes, I don't know. Different kinds of incense, right?

Last thing, Pabongka Rinpoche said, never waste the amount of time it takes to burn one stick of incense, okay? After today, don't waste what Joe gave you, because you will lose it, okay? Every hour you are healthy, every hour you have ice, every hour you live in a good country, every hour you can sit straight, it's expensive karma, and you are losing it, okay?

So, don't waste it. Don't waste this much time, okay? Don't waste this much time, ever again, ever again, okay?

People come to me and they say, you're in the... I was in the Beijing airport, I'm sitting on the floor of the Beijing airport, because there's no chairs, and most airports don't have chairs in the check-in area, because they don't want you to sit, and so I always sit on the ground, I open up the computer, I start working on my translation, Tsongkapa. You're going to get it now.

Are you ready Tim? Where are you? Okay, when you get bored these three days, you can read this Tsongkapa's book, How to Do Giving, okay?

I'm sorry we didn't have time to translate it into Chinese, okay? But Stanley, I'm sure he will do it later. But I sit on the floor of the airport, then people stand and look at me, because I think in China you're not supposed to sit on the floor in the airport.

Sometimes the guard will ask me, what are you doing? In many countries they'll ask me, what are you doing? Then I said, I go like this, okay?

I don't want to waste this much time. I will sit on the floor in the airport and translate. I will translate two sentences, it's okay.

I don't want to waste the time, okay? Because I cannot have it back. After it's gone, I cannot get it back.

It will be gone. Later I need it. Later I will run out.

I need some now, okay? So don't waste time, okay? Make yourself happy.

If you have five minutes, try to make yourself happier, okay? Because then you can help other people, okay? Understand?

You are ready to do your three-day retreat. When you get bored, you can read this book. If you understand more than one page, I'm surprised.

But it's tough, it's tough, okay? Don't worry, it's very tough. If the English sounds confusing, it is, okay?

This is Je Tsongkapa's How to Give Things with Kongshing. How to Give Things with Emptiness, okay? It's the whole thing, very difficult.

It took me three years. It's very difficult, okay? What's that?

This is part of GOMS PA RAB ZAL, which is Je Tsongkapa's greatest book on emptiness. It's probably the greatest book ever written on emptiness, okay? It's one chapter, it's the first chapter.

More to come, okay? More to come. Anything Tim?

You have anything? You ready? Oh, is that it?

That's the board? Okay, everybody get a piece of paper now, okay? Tim's going to give you a piece of paper.

If you don't have a book, raise your hand. Okay, we will take a ten minute break, then we will go to the Je Tsongkapa Center and we will do the prayer for closing the wall of the retreat area, okay? It's not a wall made of brick, it's a wall made of Dharma, okay?

And if a fire comes, it will stop, because it's so powerful. I had that twice. I had it happen twice.

I was doing a retreat in my Lama's city, outside, near the Grand Canyon, and a big fire came and the police came and took me out of the house. But I had a protection circle around the house, so I'm going to teach you how to make a protection circle. I was in a one-month retreat.

I put a protection circle around the house. Then the police took me in a car to Flagstaff, to the city, and they dropped me off at the coffee shop. They said goodbye.

I'm like, I don't have money, I don't have clothes, I don't have anything. They said, we have to go back, we have to get other people. Then, lucky I had a friend there.

Then I went back after a few days. I finished the retreat. During the retreat, I had a dance experience.

I'll tell you someday. Then I went to the house, and the owner of the house was there, and he's laughing, and he hugged me. He says, thank you so much.

I said, why? He said, check it out. The fire came to the house and split, and then went back together and burned everything.

The house is in the middle of a burned forest, and there's nothing wrong with the house. I can show you the house. He's like, I don't know what you Buddhist guys are doing, but thank you.

Someday I'll show you the house. Because there's nothing there except the house. To make that circle of protection, we will do prayers, and we will put special mantra on a piece of paper around the whole Diamond Mountain.

Like Adam and other people are going to run for an hour to put the four protection signs. After you put them up, you cannot leave, okay? Unless you get like really sick or something like that, okay?

So for three days you have to make a commitment. I will not leave, okay? Karen Becker, she's 85?

How old is she? 80? How old is she?

79. She's 79. She had a heart operation.

She did three year retreat. She had a heart problem. We took her to the hospital.

She got a pacemaker, put in. She came back in 48 hours, and she finished the three-year retreat, okay? So you have to be like that, okay?

I will not leave, okay? So I'm going to teach you how to make that protection circle. I'm going to teach you the baby way, okay?

Later I'll teach you the adult way. But just beginning, okay? I need one piece of paper myself.

Ready? Quick, quick, quick. Okay, got it.

You're going to take your piece of paper. You're going to divide it into three parts, okay? So fold it almost equal.

You have kusha grass ready or anything like that, Tim? Any one piece or we're not doing that? Maybe not, okay.

We're not doing that. Okay, okay. Three parts, got it?

One. So if you look at the paper, there's three equal parts. Everybody okay?

Rugo is correct, Tony is wrong, okay? That's a typical start to a marriage. The woman's always right, right Rugo?

Okay, so three parts, okay? Got it? Everybody ready?

Okay, you're unlucky because I have some pens, okay? Try to find a good pen, okay? Chen Zong, hand them out.

I'll give you some, okay? I have these in my pocket and you can use them, okay? Good pen.

Do you have a whole bag of them or something? Let's just skip it for now. Gyalse was going to take care of it, but I guess she won't.

Okay, ready? You can use a small pen, it's okay. Any pen is okay.

Don't use pencil, otherwise a bear might come into your cabin. Don't laugh, it happened several times. Which retreat was it the bear stuck his head through the window?

Kunga. I wondered why she put metal door on her on her cabin. Okay, okay, in the middle of the paper, in the middle part, okay?

In the middle third, you're going to write a special mantra, okay? I will write it and you just copy, okay? Then you will have the protection of Dorje Yudhya Mu.

Okay, what do you call it? Jigar Yudhya Mu. Okay, alright?

Bajaj Yogini, okay? Very powerful protection. Can stop fire, can stop bears.

Cannot stop thinking about lunch, okay? That's a different thing. Sometimes thinking about lunch is worse than the bear.

Okay, so you're going to write these three words, okay? Ready? So there's going to be, you have to have space for three words, okay?

Let's practice. OM, AH, HUNG. HUNG.

It's the French, it's the French nasal, there's a croissant, a croissant, not croissant, okay? Croissant. Okay?

OM, AH, HUNG. HUNG, like French. Don't say hum, okay?

Or hum. Okay, that's wrong. It's HUNG.

Okay, good. If you want, Bengame can teach you, okay? He taught me French for a week and gave up.

Okay, alright, here we go. Okay, try to write it. When the kid writes their mom a birthday card, the mom doesn't care if the writing is good or not.

Do the best you can. In the middle one, in the middle one, okay? Yeah, in the middle one.

That's okay, yeah. It's on the upper part. Can somebody hold this?

The hoop? No, that is a different thing. Okay.

No, I just mean every retreat. Yeah, let's say three. Do you have three?

No. Okay, one is enough. Okay, thank you.

I'll explain that to them. Okay, so it should look like that. If you're not sure, you can come up later and you can copy it from the board, okay?

So, don't get stressed out, okay? Buddha is happy, whatever you write, you can write anything, Buddha will be happy. Okay, that's OM.

Okay, ready? For R? Are you ready for R?

You don't have pen karma. Okay, R. R.

OM R. I don't know, you got stuck. Haggerty, he's asking why you didn't do it.

He did it, where were you in the did the Wheel of Life and you had to hold it up for like an hour? What country was it? It was some foreign country.

Was it Bulgaria? No, it was somewhere else. It's like Taiwan or something.

He's already done that. Yeah, there is a little, you're talking like, yeah, yeah, it's a little L-shape. Okay, last one, you ready?

What's the last one? OM. Just like French people talk like that because they're so sexy.

Good luck, good luck, good luck. Take your time. Some smart people are taking photograph on their phone.

This is HUNG. HUNG. You're going to take this paper.

Okay, I do want to use the grass. Do you have any, that little piece of grass? Sorry, you probably threw it outside.

Quickly. So, you get a pen, you're going to get a pen, and the door to your cottage, the door to your cottage, not on the door, but on the door frame. Okay, where the door opens, you're going to tack it there.

Okay, okay, facing outside, not inside, facing outside, on the outside of the door. Okay, the wind at Diamond Mountain is very strong. If you want, you can put two or three pins.

Okay, push hard. Okay, and you're going to take a piece of grass, you're going to open it, you're going to put the grass in the middle, then you're going to close it. The long grass, any long grass.

Okay, long piece of grass. And then you take the pin and you, don't cover the letters, don't cover the letters. Okay, okay, it's going to look like that.

Maybe you have to try two, three times, because you have to stick the grass also. The grass has to stay. If you want to, you can use tape, you can use, this is not Singapore, so you can use gum.

I always smuggle gum into Singapore. Okay, it should not fall off. It should not fall off.

Okay, it should not fall off. If it rains, it shouldn't get wet. If you want, you can put a little plastic over.

Okay, okay, it shouldn't, the letters should stay the same. It shouldn't get wet. If it falls off, if it rains and the letters are not clear, do it again.

Okay, make it again. Okay, what does this say? No, it says ,'JEN GANG YUL BYA MA, YUL BYA MO, I am doing retreat for three days.

Please protect this house. Okay, the Jewish people, what do you call that? Masuda?

Really? Orit? Masuda.

They put that on their, all their door all year. It's a good idea. It's a very nice idea.

Same idea. Okay, this is an announcement to ,'JEN GANG YUL BYA MO, I'm doing retreat for three days. Please protect this house.

Okay, please protect this house. Okay, so you need it. Okay, on the outside.

If the rain comes, do it again, or cover it with plastic. Okay, all right. Okay, you might want to take a photo of it and then you know, can I use my cell phone in retreat?

Yes, but only to call up this photograph. Okay, all right. Now, when you go, we were going to have a ceremony.

First you take, you're going to go to the important room. What's that? Bathroom.

Then we're going to have a ceremony and we will do the prayers to close the whole place, the whole Diamond Mountain. And then, I think they have dinner right here. You're going to announce that.

Okay. Then you're going to go home. You're going to put this on your door and then you have to think, now I'm in retreat.

Okay, now I'm in retreat. Friday morning, before you come here, you can take it down. Okay, I always keep them in my house.

I have like 500 of these. Okay, I did many, many, many retreats. Okay, I like to keep them.

You cannot throw it out. You cannot put it in the garbage. You cannot throw it on the land.

You cannot leave it on the house. Jinggao Yudjomo will get confused. She will have to work all year and there's nobody inside.

Okay, so Friday morning, you will take it off and I take them home with me. I keep them in my house. Then I can remember my retreat.

Okay, and see in your life how many you can get. Okay, how many can you collect? Okay, it's kind of cool to have them.

Sometimes I give them to my good friends for good luck. It's good luck in your house to keep them. Okay, when you put this on the door frame, you must also put a bribe for Vajrayogini.

We prepared a bribe for you. Okay, this is called torma. American torma.

Okay, chakli. Okay, don't use that Singapore word. Okay, biscuit.

Don't call it a biscuit. It's a cookie. Okay, in American English it's called cookie.

American cookie. Okay, then you will put this. It's nice to put it on a nice plate.

Okay, and then you're going to put it inside your door until tomorrow morning. Okay, that's her payment, advanced payment. Okay, for Jigme Phuntsok Rinpoche.

Okay, will you see a bite in it tomorrow morning? No. She eats the emptiness from it.

She eats the gong shing. She doesn't need the chocolate. I can tell you, Jigme Phuntsok Rinpoche doesn't like chocolate.

Okay, she told me. But she will take the intention and the gong shing. She will take your love, she will take your faith, she will take your prayers for the world, and she will eat them.

And then that's her payment, and she will protect your house. Okay, on Friday morning you should give her a tip. Okay, like again put some nice dish or something and put something you enjoy.

Like I like Cheerios, I like donuts, I like protein bar. Okay, you can put a little bit. Okay, again that's a thank you.

Okay, why don't we put that outside under this paper? Because a bear will come and they will eat you. Okay, so don't leave food outside.

Okay, it's not good. It's not the bear, the bear is busy. Okay, he's not going to come, but small animals will come, and bugs will come, and they will share your bed, and you don't want that.

Okay, so it goes inside the door. Next morning you can throw it out. Okay, all right?

Because she took the essence. You can eat it also, it's okay. She took it already.

She took the best part of it. If you want to eat it, it's okay, but it's a little bit dangerous, because maybe you will eat it too soon. You're supposed to wait, I told you, until you can see the lines on your hand from the sun.

Okay, so I have one friend, he likes to eat cookie. Then I went to see him before dawn in the Vajrayog, he was like this. He has a cookie in his hand.

He's waiting for the sun. I can see my hand, my line on my hand. Okay, when you see the line on your hand, it's the offering finished, okay?

In the sun. When the sun is bright enough, okay? Any questions about that?

Yes, Jasmine? Okay, okay. You can use your iPhone if you want.

There's two ways to do Tsongkapa mantra, okay? You can just say it, or you can sing it. Okay, so I will say it, and then I will sing it.

MIG MED TSE BA'I DER CHEN CHEN RE ZIG PHYI MA'I KHYEN PA'I DBANG PO BYAMS PA'I YANG DUS BU'I MA LAS SBYONG ZAS SANGS PA'I BRTAG GANG CHEN KHAS PA'I TSUL KHYEN TSONGKAPA LO SANG DRAG PA'I ZHAB LA SO'ANG DEB Okay, next one. Now I feel like hassle. Now I'm nervous.

Okay, he did a great job. Okay, ready? I'll sing it.

Ready? MIG MED TSE BA'I DER CHEN CHEN RE ZIG PHYI MA'I KHYEN PA'I DBANG PO BYAMS PA'I DUS BU'I MA LAS SBYONG ZAS SANGS PA'I BRTAG GANG CHEN KHAS PA'I TSUL KHYEN TSONGKAPA LO SANG DRAG PA'I ZHAB LA SO'ANG DEB Okay, I kind of messed up the fourth line. That's okay.

Okay, so later we can sing it together. It's very sweet. Okay, after retreat.

All right, any more questions? Yeah. Campers?

Yeah, good luck. You can try to tape it on the outside of the tent somewhere. If it gets really, you can use string.

If it's desperate, you can put a rock on top of it outside the door, just on the ground, but that's not great. Okay, so you have to be creative. If you don't want to eat the dharma, you're crazy.

Next. So, we have two rooms in one house. Can we put a sign on the door of the room?

Yeah, it's a good question. It's a good question. Put both of them on the outside door.

You can put... Yeah, you can put two on the left side and two on the right side. But it should be on the outside door.

Eleven? They can overlap. If there's a lot of them, they can overlap.

Yes. Yeah, that's a good question. Is it safe to do your meditation outside?

Because you are going past your boundary. In this retreat, you are allowed to go outside for a walk. Be careful.

Always take a hat. Always take water with you, even if it's just a short walk. Watch for snakes.

The snakes are asleep at this time, but maybe one of them woke up because of the rock and roll practice we are having. So, always watch the ground. Say again?

Oh, I mean in the summer. Yeah, so it's too cold right now for them. But it's possible some of them are lazy.

They didn't go under the ground yet. So, keep your eyes open. If you hear, snakes sound like this.

They have a sound. If you hear that sound, don't look for them. Just run the opposite way.

They don't want to bite you. Why? You are a waste of poison.

They cannot eat you. You are too big. They really don't want to bite you.

If you step on them three times, they will bite you. But if you hear them, the reason they make that sound, they are saying, please don't come here. Then you have to say, okay.

And just go back. Don't wait. Don't say, oh, what's that?

Just go back. But it's not their time. Right now they are getting ready for sleep for whole winter.

That's why we had the retreat at this time. Any other question? That's okay.

If you want to write a second one for your room, that's fine. You can do. But the most important one is the outside one.

Other question? Jigme?

[Speaker 2]
I have double-A and triple-A batteries here, if people's flashlights are starting to die. So, just help yourself. Don't take them if you don't need them.

But they are often...

[Speaker 1]
Okay, there are extra batteries there if you need. Okay, another question? Yeah, Catherine.

You are welcome to do other mantras, okay? All mantras are to Buddhas. So, there's a Buddha union, trade union, and they have a contract.

Any Buddha's mantra will be accepted by other Buddha. So, if you want to do other mantras, you don't have to worry. They are all like one person, okay?

So, no problem. Okay, question Stanley. Oh, and these are blessed already.

These ones up here. So, don't forget it. You want to waste time with a joke from Geshe Michael?

It will take less time than incense. Okay. There was a guy, he was in a war.

He took his gun. They said, come to the war. He ran to the war.

But on the way, he has to go poo-poo. He found an outhouse to make a poo-poo. Then he left his gun in the outhouse.

He forgot the gun. And he ran to the war. Then when he reached the war, suddenly 500 soldiers coming from the other country, army.

Then he's like, I forgot my gun in the toilet. Then he's so scared, he pooped. Then there's a joke.

They say, don't leave your gun where you're supposed to poop, and don't poop where you're supposed to use your gun. What's the meaning? Don't leave your rosary up here.

Tonight. Take your gun with you. That's Tibetan humor.

Okay. Other question? Jeez.

Okay, we got to kind of get moving. Okay, good question. If you have commitment to other lamas or me to do daily practices, you should do them.

So you cannot skip them. If you have a mantra practice for every day, you made a commitment, then you must keep it. So if you have to skip one of these meditations, that's fine.

If you decide you would like to add a meditation about something you are grateful or you want to appreciate, like your mom or your daughter, that's fine. When you ask a question like that, the answer is always, what would make Buddha happy? Okay?

If Buddha knows you are keeping your commitment to other lamas, or if Buddha knows you are adding more appreciation, will it make Buddha happy or not? It will make Buddha happy. Okay?

So, always think like that, when you have to make a decision. Okay? Okay.

Are you sure? Yes, please. Yeah, good.

Good question. I suggest you spend about, the instructions are on the first page of the meditation sheet, but you can spend about, let's say you have eight things to think about and you have a 45 minute meditation, then divide 45 by 8. You see what I mean?

Then okay, I can spend about five minutes on each one. Okay? You decide.

If one of them is super sweet, like you reach your mom and you want to give her extra time, it's okay to leave off something else. Okay? That's okay.

If the meditation is going very well, follow it. Okay? If something is going very well, you can stay on it for a while.

Okay? Rob? Yeah?

So, you want us to cover it together? Maybe just do it for half an hour? Yeah, you can do it for the amount of time you have.

You can stop if you're having a specially sweet moment and you can not finish if that's necessary. That's okay. If something is going very smooth, stay with it.

If something is not going well, stay with it. Ronit? No.

No number of mantras that you have to do. The mantras should be slow and clear. The mantra should be slow and clear.

Okay? It's important because the way you plant a seed is OM MANI PADME HUNG You see what I mean? If you say OM MANI PADME HUNG MANI PADME HUNG MANI PADME HUNG then the result is going to be blah blah blah blah blah blah blah.

Okay? So, don't worry about how fast. Don't try to do a million.

If you want to do a million, come back for three years. Okay? Not three days.

But go slow. MIG MED BRTZE BA'I DE BYED CAN RE ZIG And think about the meaning. These people go fast.

How fast can I say OM MANI PADME HUNG BA MED MANG BA'ANG DBANG PO'ANG ,LAS SRYIG KHRIBS AT SKYES Okay? Then it does it. Do it slow.

Okay. OM PA RDZO Hä RÚG RGA GZAM A YANG MA NUS PA LA YANG Enjoy it. Okay, nobody likes to hear somebody go blub blub blub blub blub, okay, you don't have to keep count, yeah.

Sometimes when you're keeping count you forget the meaning of the mantra, but you can, you can do on your rosary, every time you hit the big bead you can make a mark on a piece of paper. Okay, that's okay. Any more question?

Yes, Mr. Foley. In Buddhism, for a man and their partner to do the practice together and say it together is a thousand times more powerful. Okay, so if you're, if you have, if Joe gave you a partner, okay, if Joe gave you a partner, then in Buddhism that's, that's super good, okay, and to do it together, to sing it together is very good.

If one partner feels like meditating, but the other one has a headache or something, then it's okay, you can say, look you go ahead and meditate, you're not going to say it, right, you're going to write it on a note. Okay, so try not to talk for three days. If you need to communicate, write a note, okay, I don't want you to go like this, okay, that's not silence, okay, silence is right, then they go, okay, that's a good, that's a good retreat fight.

Yes, Catherine, we got to get going, we got to get going. One person can lead, you can write a note, Catherine's leading practice today, everybody try to follow her, okay, like that, that's okay. Good question.

Any more? No? Yes, Wang Xia.

Yeah, good question. So you start with the big bead, the mother bead, okay, and you put your left third finger between the mother bead and the first bead, then you start, OM MANI PADME HUM, OM MANI PADME HUM, OM MANI PADME HUM, OM MANI PADME HUM, Or, GNYIS MA'I TSE BA'I BRTEN CHEN PO'I SRID KYI MED KYIS MED YIN PA'ANG BA DANG MA YIN DU RGYUR MA LA BRDUN DANG TSA BA'I DANG, DKA' BYAS KYIS PA'I TSUL KHYEN THUGS MA LA'O ZHON DRAG PA'I ZHAB LA SOGS DBANG DE And then, that's one. Yeah, the other day I split it up for you, but now you are tougher. Now you've got the tough guy initiation.

Okay, all right. 21 is normal, something like that. That's why they put this, sometimes they put this after 21 beads or something.

Okay, any other question? No? Okay, 10 minute pee pee break and we will meet in the cafeteria for closing the whole valley.

Okay.
