[Говорящий 1] (0:00 - 0:52)
Hi, good morning. Thank you for coming on time. It's most important in the morning when we start our meditations.

So, this week's theme. Oh, by the way, Father Osvaldo worked many years with the poor people here. I think he spent 30 years in Tijuana, something like that.

Very, very difficult place, dangerous place. And he served the poor, and I think you can see it in his face.

[Говорящий 2] (0:52 - 0:59)
So, it's very lucky to have this place.

[Говорящий 1] (1:00 - 3:16)
And lucky to meet people who will let us do our Buddhist thing. We asked Father Osvaldo, we have to make three large fires at the end of the week. He said, oh, use this beautiful park.

Just make the fire in the park. So, we're very lucky. So, this week of course the subject is teachers.

We'll be talking about our teachers. Most important teacher in the beginning is our father and our mother. We got some news last night.

Sorry. Then, Alejandro's father is ill. He has some kind of a tumor in his kidney.

So, today in the morning I'd like to do tong len meditation for his father. So again, we are studying a book called Lam Rim. I like books.

Some people like movies. Some people like yoga. Some people like saxophone.

I like books. And this is my favorite book. And my teacher, again, he taught it to me for 30 years.

[Говорящий 2] (3:16 - 3:20)
He taught it three times.

[Говорящий 1] (3:20 - 3:43)
Each time took about 10 years. He taught it in different places. Then I got to hear it three times because I was his slave.

I'm always driving him where he needs to go.

[Говорящий 2] (3:46 - 3:47)
Cooking his food.

[Говорящий 1] (3:49 - 4:18)
Washing his clothes. But I was lucky, so I got to hear it three times. So, this book is a summary.

It summarizes two and a half thousand years of Buddhism in one book.

[Говорящий 2] (4:20 - 4:29)
Everything you need to become a Buddha is in one book.

[Говорящий 1] (4:29 - 6:14)
And really, it's a masterpiece. It was written by Pabongka Rinpoche. I think he was born in 1878.

I think he passed away in 1941. And he had a student named Trijang Rinpoche. I think he was born in 1900.

And he passed away. I remember he passed away in 1981. And that student spent many, many years to write down this book.

So, Pabongka Rinpoche wrote, this is a lecture. This is 24 days of lecture. He gave in Lhasa, in Tibet, in West China.

And this is a record of that talk. And it's brilliant. It's like two geniuses.

It's difficult to explain how brilliant it is, but it's perfect. Perfect description how to reach enlightenment.

[Говорящий 2] (6:18 - 6:25)
And the writing is perfect. And the examples are perfect.

[Говорящий 1] (6:25 - 6:28)
And the information is perfect.

[Говорящий 2] (6:28 - 6:35)
And the quotations are perfect. And it's funny also.

[Говорящий 1] (6:35 - 6:39)
So, I like it. It's perfect.

[Говорящий 2] (6:40 - 6:51)
So, I want to do, I'm doing word by word from the Tibetan language.

[Говорящий 1] (6:52 - 7:52)
Because Tibetan language is disappearing like Latin. Very few people speak it correctly, no? I called one library in West China to try to find one book.

And I spoke in Tibetan, but no one could understand me. And so this language is starting to disappear in the world. Especially people who understand these books.

They are disappearing in the world. So, in my life I would like to pass on this book correctly.

[Говорящий 2] (7:54 - 7:58)
I would like to teach it word by word.

[Говорящий 1] (7:58 - 8:25)
Rebecca and her team are trying to record the video, and to edit it, which is a big job. Then I'd like to put it on the internet and places for free. And I hope that it will survive, this teaching will survive.

[Говорящий 2] (8:28 - 8:31)
So, you have two jobs.

[Говорящий 1] (8:31 - 8:37)
One is to listen to long, boring talk about Tibetan words.

[Говорящий 2] (8:43 - 8:46)
Then you have to remember.

[Говорящий 1] (8:46 - 8:59)
In your book, there's extra pages in the back. And I ask you to take notes, okay?

[Говорящий 2] (9:04 - 9:05)
Don't be lazy.

[Говорящий 1] (9:07 - 9:13)
I cannot teach this two times. Fourteen years is enough.

[Говорящий 2] (9:15 - 9:25)
You must make a good record, because you have to teach your own students.

[Говорящий 1] (9:25 - 9:56)
To teach your own students, you need two things. Number one, you need all the information. Number two, you have to be a good person.

So, everybody wants to teach. Everybody likes to teach. And it's not difficult to teach information.

[Говорящий 2] (9:57 - 10:02)
But when you teach Buddhism, there's a problem.

[Говорящий 1] (10:02 - 10:36)
You have to be that thing yourself which you teach. And that's very difficult. To teach the ideas is not so difficult.

And it's fun and all of us enjoy to teach. But if we don't practice what we are teaching, then it's like, they say it's like a sugar cane. Sugar.

[Говорящий 2] (10:36 - 10:38)
Sugar cane. Or bamboo.

[Говорящий 1] (10:40 - 10:45)
Outside looks strong. Inside, nothing. Empty.

[Говорящий 2] (10:48 - 10:56)
So we have to have both. Understand the ideas and practice them.

[Говорящий 1] (10:57 - 11:45)
When will you start to practice? Some people say, when I get up to leave this room, I will start to practice. I think you can practice here.

First time you hear something, start to practice it. After I say the first sentence, you start practicing it. For how long?

The rest of your life. So there's no finishing. Then you will be like a good wine.

Tastes better every year. I heard they say that.

[Говорящий 2] (11:45 - 11:47)
I heard that.

[Говорящий 1] (11:47 - 11:55)
They say that. Okay. So, we are starting a special section.

[Говорящий 2] (11:57 - 12:17)
And I will ask you to say the ancient words sometimes. Say SHES NYAN SHES NYAN TEN TSUL SHES NYAN TEN TSUL SHES NYAN TEN TSUL SHES NYAN TEN TSUL Good.

[Говорящий 1] (12:17 - 12:34)
This very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very famous. Muy, muy, muy, muy, muy, muy. It's the first Lam Rim.

It's the first step on the path to Buddhahood.

[Говорящий 2] (12:38 - 12:44)
The most famous Buddhist practice there is.

[Говорящий 1] (12:45 - 13:14)
SHES NYAN means you're a spiritual teacher. Literally it means spiritual friend. TEN TSUL means...

TEN is a very difficult word. It means how do you take yourself to that teacher? How do you look for them?

[Говорящий 2] (13:17 - 13:18)
How do you find them?

[Говорящий 1] (13:20 - 13:27)
How do you choose them? How do you check them out before you choose them?

[Говорящий 2] (13:28 - 13:34)
After you choose them, how to behave towards them.

[Говорящий 1] (13:35 - 13:52)
So, in the Buddhist tradition, before we ask you to do a practice, we do a sales job. Sales job. If I'm going to...

[Говорящий 2] (13:52 - 13:59)
I went to buy an old car last week.

[Говорящий 1] (13:59 - 14:34)
Honda, 1996 Honda CRV AWD. CRV AWD. Then, Scott's helping me and Aureen.

We looked at many of them. I'm trying to buy for my Lama. My Lama needs a car.

Then I went to try the car, and the guy did a sales job.

[Говорящий 2] (14:38 - 14:39)
Look, outside is perfect.

[Говорящий 1] (14:43 - 14:47)
You can check, in their computer, there's a internet, there's a place called AutoFacts.

[Говорящий 2] (14:51 - 14:51)
AutoFacts.

[Говорящий 1] (14:51 - 14:55)
It will tell you if the car was ever in an accident before or not.

[Говорящий 2] (14:55 - 15:03)
It said, not only beautiful outside, look, in AutoFacts, no accidents.

[Говорящий 1] (15:09 - 15:30)
Mileage is unbelievable. 27 miles a gallon. Upholstery is perfect.

The seat is all perfect. No scratches. Then I said, okay, let me try it out.

[Говорящий 2] (15:32 - 15:33)
Just five minutes.

[Говорящий 1] (15:34 - 15:36)
He said, oh, you don't really have to try it.

[Говорящий 2] (15:36 - 15:44)
And he said, no, no, you don't even have to try it.

[Говорящий 1] (15:44 - 16:42)
Then of course I got suspicious. I said, give me the key. Start the car.

This is the white one. I went south. Started, I was just like, Then I ran away.

So, first you have to tell the person how great is the car. And there are eight great things about this car. If you learn how to choose a teacher, and then learn how to behave towards them, eight good things will happen to you.

[Говорящий 2] (16:45 - 16:50)
So first I have to sell you these eight things.

[Говорящий 1] (16:50 - 17:22)
Then you will buy the car. Then we started the first one last retreat four months ago, three months ago. And the first good thing about having a good teacher, you will become closer to Buddhahood, closer to enlightenment.

Everybody should be writing closer to enlightenment.

[Говорящий 2] (17:24 - 17:28)
Okay. All right.

[Говорящий 1] (17:29 - 17:36)
So I'm going to start. Adam, I'm on, do you know where I am? Jigme, did you tell him?

[Говорящий 2] (17:36 - 17:36)
I don't understand.

[Говорящий 1] (17:38 - 18:27)
We're on, where are we? 125B. We're on page 125B.

And it says, DE NAS SANGS RGYAS KYI SGO PANG So maybe Jigme can help you. DE NAS SANGS RGYAS KYI SGO PANG Got it? Okay, so I'll read the Tibetan.

I'm going to do this, okay? For the next 12 years. I don't care if you don't like Tibetan or you don't want to learn Tibetan.

There are 200 sacred books in Tibetan language. 200,000.

[Говорящий 2] (18:31 - 18:37)
If you learn to read them, you can change the world.

[Говорящий 1] (18:38 - 18:44)
So I'm going to make it on the video. At least somebody, maybe after 100 years from now, maybe they will learn Tibetan.

[Говорящий 2] (18:45 - 18:45)
Okay?

[Говорящий 1] (18:51 - 20:05)
Okay. Go down, I think. Go down, down, past the bowl.

Go down a little bit more. Oh there, there we go. Alright.

That's a misspelled. The first two words are misspelled. Sorry.

It should be DE NA, D-E-S-N-A. DE NA SANGS RGYAS KYI SGO PANG LA GROS POR GNYUR MI GNYUR NI LAM MA BSTAN TSUL TSUL SHING CHUNG MA CHUNG LA RAG LAS ZHING Whether or not you're able to go to enlightenment quickly or not, it only depends on having a good teacher and making the proper connection with this teacher. Why do you want to become enlightened?

I mean, that's what we're here for, right? If you become enlightened, you can help people.

[Говорящий 2] (20:07 - 20:13)
Countless people. Not just one person in the hospital.

[Говорящий 1] (20:14 - 20:49)
I had a bad week last week. He had a bad week this week. Last week my stepmother called me.

Come quickly to California. Your stepfather's dying. Then I went to see him.

Then the whole family is worried, and my brother came also. Then everyone's so worried, my stepmother got a heart attack.

[Говорящий 2] (20:53 - 20:54)
Then the stepfather died.

[Говорящий 1] (20:55 - 21:47)
Then the brother is worried taking care of them. He had a heart attack. Three people in one week.

Then his father this week. Then we are sitting around like, oh, this is terrible. This week is terrible.

But at least I'm in the right business. I chose the right business. My business is to try to help people not to die.

So maybe I'm pretty good at it, or I'm not so good at it. But at least I'm in the right business. I'm not doing something else.

So I believe that this is the most important thing we can do.

[Говорящий 2] (21:51 - 21:53)
Help other people.

[Говорящий 1] (21:54 - 22:36)
Supposed to be this book will help you not to die. And you can teach other people not to die. So maybe we are not very good doctors.

But at least we are trying. We are trying to do the right thing. So this book teaches you how to be a doctor.

To stop people from dying. We will learn. We just have to keep trying.

[Говорящий 2] (22:37 - 22:38)
That's enlightenment.

[Говорящий 1] (22:40 - 22:54)
Not just one patient. Seven billion patients on this planet. And then many other planets that you don't know about.

[Говорящий 2] (22:55 - 22:55)
I think.

[Говорящий 1] (23:01 - 23:17)
I mean I think you don't know, but maybe you know. But there are countless planets. Countless planets covered with people.

They all need help.

[Говорящий 2] (23:19 - 23:27)
And you can help them. If you learn this thing, you can help them. That's enlightenment.

[Говорящий 1] (23:29 - 24:18)
Okay. ,DE LA BRTEN NA NI, ,DANG NA RA'I BRTEN CING NYAMS SU LAG NA YANG, If you find a teacher and they teach you just one or two things, ,DE'I TSUL GYI SANGS RGYAS KYI SGO BA'ANG LA NYES, each time you learn one more thing, you are a little bit closer to become enlightened and able to help countless worlds. And that finishes the first sales pitch of eight sales pitches.

No, I'm sorry. Not quite finished.

[Говорящий 2] (24:18 - 24:18)
Sorry.

[Говорящий 1] (24:21 - 24:28)
Now we are starting new stuff. That was the old stuff. We're still in the first benefit.

[Говорящий 2] (24:32 - 24:36)
You will get closer to enlightenment.

[Говорящий 1] (24:37 - 25:22)
,DE YANG SKYE BU CHUNG NGU LA'ANG, ,TZAM DU PHYI NUS PA ZHIG BSTAN PA BA'I, Maybe you will find a person who can teach you just beginning Buddhism, how to begin Buddhism. We call path for smaller heart, smaller heart people. But this, by the way, those of you who are studying BSTAN PA BA'I is the instrumental.

In this case, it's the comparative. It doesn't mean by, it means than, T-H-A-N, better than, better than.

[Говорящий 2] (25:23 - 25:33)
Those of you who are studying Tibetan, the letter to which it referred doesn't mean by, it means better than.

[Говорящий 1] (25:33 - 26:48)
Better than that, ,LAM YONGS SOGS LTOS NUS PA ZHIG BSTAN NA, If you can find a teacher who knows the whole path from beginning to end, ,PHYI MA BYAS NYUR TE, the second kind is much faster. ,LAM YONGS SOGS LTOS NUS PA'I LAMA ZHIG BSTAN, I like this, I love this part. If you find a teacher who can teach the whole path from beginning to the end, and if you find a, ,BLO MA RGA BYAS NUS PA'I NON DANG ZHIG MNYAM DU PHRAD NA, If you find a student who is willing to do hard, hard, hard work, NON DANG means worthy vessel.

They are worthy to pour this thing into them. Then this is a hard path. Many, many troubles will come to you.

It's not easy.

[Говорящий 2] (26:49 - 26:58)
It doesn't happen in one week. It will take years of work. Hard work.

[Говорящий 1] (26:58 - 28:04)
Many disappointments. Many difficulties. But if you find a student who says, I can do it.

I'm a tough guy. I can do it. Whatever I have to do, I will do.

If a teacher who knows the whole path meets that kind of student who's willing to be a tough guy, if you put those two together, PHRAD NA means if you put them together. SANGS RGYAS LAK PAS SOS PA LTAR It's like baking a cake. You can make a Buddha like making a cake.

RGA TSEG MED PAR Easy.

[Говорящий 2] (28:06 - 28:10)
Just follow the recipe.

[Говорящий 1] (28:11 - 29:14)
People say, Geshe Michael, you're a very good cook. I say, I'm not a good cook. I just follow what the recipe say.

Sometimes I want to cook some great dinner for my Lama. Like last week I did. Full Christmas dinner.

My friends bought the groceries. It took a whole day. It took like 10 hours to cook the dinner.

Also took 10 hours to wash the dishes. Then in the morning I wake up, okay, I have to cook. Then I look at all the things, big turkey, I'm like...

Then I got the book, what do I do, what do I do? Don't worry, just do the first thing.

[Говорящий 2] (29:17 - 29:17)
Wash your hands.

[Говорящий 1] (29:18 - 29:19)
Okay, I can wash my hands.

[Говорящий 2] (29:20 - 29:25)
Dry your hands. Okay, I can dry my hands. Touch the tea, you know.

[Говорящий 1] (29:26 - 29:32)
Then you do, one by one you do. Then 8 o'clock you have a big dinner, it's finished.

[Говорящий 2] (29:36 - 29:46)
So, if the good teacher meets a good student, it's just easy, just do what the book says, one by one.

[Говорящий 1] (29:50 - 30:05)
Then at the end, oh, although it's a Buddha. At 8 o'clock. It's finished.

Look, he's a Buddha. Easy, no problem.

[Говорящий 2] (30:05 - 30:17)
But you need a good teacher who knows the whole path. From beginning up to secret teachings in her body.

[Говорящий 1] (30:18 - 30:27)
So, we can make a cake, okay? What time am I supposed to stop? I have to be careful.

[Говорящий 2] (30:28 - 30:30)
Okay, good.

[Говорящий 1] (30:30 - 32:02)
We have about 20 minutes. PA DAM PA'I RKYANG PA DAM PA'I RKYANG, oh sorry. PA DAM PA, his full name is PA DAM PA SANGS RGYAS.

We don't know his birth year or die year, but it's 1100, one one zero zero. I have to give you the Tibetan without my homework on it, because they're going to see the answers. Okay?

He's a great teacher from India. He came to Tibet, West China. He taught there for 12 years.

He said, LAM MED SKYEL NA means, if your Lama gives you a ride on his car, GANG DU GNAS SU LAS means you can go anywhere you want. GANG LAR, but there's a price. GANG means legs, LAR means charge, like what you charge for the trip.

Ticket price. But there's a ticket price.

[Говорящий 2] (32:03 - 32:05)
There's a price. The ticket has a price.

[Говорящий 1] (32:05 - 32:16)
It's called MU RGOS BUD. Say MU RGOS BUD MU RGOS BUD MU RGOS BUD means you must show them affection and respect.

[Говорящий 2] (32:21 - 32:22)
That's the price of the ticket.

[Говорящий 1] (32:24 - 32:28)
So those big Lamas, they don't need your money. They don't want your money.

[Говорящий 2] (32:28 - 32:35)
Those big Lamas don't need your money. They don't need money, they can make money.

[Говорящий 1] (32:36 - 32:51)
But they, for you to succeed, you need to have affection for them. There must be love between teacher and student. And there must be respect.

[Говорящий 2] (32:52 - 32:53)
We call it MU RGOS BUD.

[Говорящий 1] (32:54 - 33:28)
Then it says DING RIGS RIGS BA DING RIGS RIGS BA means like Jalisco people. He went to stay in a place called DING RIGS. Every time he gives a talk he says, oh, DING RIGS RIGS BA means you DING RIGS people.

You Jalisco people. You want to take a ride? Take a ride?

Get on a Lama car.

[Говорящий 2] (33:31 - 33:42)
But there's a price. How much? Love.

Love your teacher. There has to be love between teacher and student.

[Говорящий 1] (33:42 - 33:44)
You ready to pay this price?

[Говорящий 2] (33:46 - 33:46)
Then we can go.

[Говорящий 1] (33:47 - 33:54)
That's what he said, Pada Pasañe. Okay Adam, we're going to skip down past the homework so they don't see the homework.

[Говорящий 2] (33:56 - 33:57)
Skip the homework.

[Говорящий 1] (33:58 - 34:02)
I like the next one. Say LUD GRUB.

[Говорящий 2] (34:03 - 34:05)
LUD GRUB GYIS.

[Говорящий 1] (34:08 - 35:00)
LUD GRUB means what? Do you know LUD GRUB? Nagarjuna.

Say Nagarjuna. So this is like, we call the second Buddha. Second most famous Buddhist in history.

He lived 18 centuries ago. And he said, RIGS DBANG TSE NAS GAR ZHIG GSUNGS RGYUR NA Suppose you are climbing up on top of this mountain which we are going on Saturday? Next Saturday?

And you reach a cliff. Very high cliff. I went to one in China.

It's called Umeshan. Umeshan.

[Говорящий 2] (35:02 - 35:11)
You've been there? You go to the top in the bus. Then there's a cliff.

[Говорящий 1] (35:13 - 35:17)
I think that cliff is, I don't know, 2,000 feet or something. Straight down.

[Говорящий 2] (35:17 - 35:19)
Like this.

[Говорящий 1] (35:20 - 35:40)
Then I'm standing on the side of the cliff. There's a little small fence. Then my friend, Buddhist friend, took me there.

He said, this cliff is a special cliff.

[Говорящий 2] (35:42 - 35:44)
I said, why?

[Говорящий 1] (35:44 - 35:50)
I'm scared. Then they said, many Buddhist people jump from this cliff.

[Говорящий 2] (35:53 - 35:55)
Then I'm like, why?

[Говорящий 1] (35:58 - 37:22)
They say, you become a Buddha halfway down. Then they never find a body. Then I thought, maybe I'm supposed to jump.

Then I said, you think I'm supposed to jump? No, you're not ready. I said, good, good.

But, Nagarjuna said, if you fall off that cliff, LTUNG BAR MI BYANG YANG means, you can say I don't want to fall. LTUNG BAR MI BYANG YANG, but you're going to fall. After you start falling, you cannot go back up.

You cannot say, I don't feel like falling today. LAM MED CING GI PHAN PA'I LUNG THOB NA If you get good teaching from a good teacher, you can say, I don't want to get enlightened. But still you will get enlightened.

[Говорящий 2] (37:23 - 37:36)
Once they start to teach you, it's like they push you off the cliff. Once that process begins, you can't stop it.

[Говорящий 1] (37:37 - 37:55)
You can't say, I don't want to fall. You're falling, you say, I don't want to fall. Once a teacher starts to teach you, you're in trouble.

You can't go back.

[Говорящий 2] (37:57 - 38:03)
After someone teach you something, you can't go back.

[Говорящий 1] (38:04 - 38:14)
I had many students got upset at me, or they left. They always come back.

[Говорящий 2] (38:15 - 38:18)
Because they got the pen.

[Говорящий 1] (38:18 - 38:58)
After you heard the pen one time, you have to keep going. You can't stop. You can quit for five years or ten years, but you will come back.

So I like this story because I like to think about it. Many people ask me on the DCI tour, I like this idea about the pen. I like this idea you can plant your own future.

[Говорящий 2] (38:59 - 39:01)
But do you have to be a Buddhist?

[Говорящий 1] (39:02 - 39:23)
Then I like to go like that. Watch. Let go of the pen.

It will fall down. Let's try again. It will fall down.

It doesn't matter if you are a Buddhist person, or a Christian person, or a Hindu person. It doesn't matter. It will fall.

[Говорящий 2] (39:27 - 39:28)
And you can't stop it.

[Говорящий 1] (39:30 - 39:39)
If you give other people, if you help people make money, you will never want money. You will always have enough money.

[Говорящий 2] (39:41 - 39:48)
If you help lonely people, you will get a guapo or a guapa.

[Говорящий 1] (39:51 - 39:52)
Nice looking girl or boy.

[Говорящий 2] (39:55 - 39:58)
You can't stop it.

[Говорящий 1] (39:58 - 40:13)
Even if you want to stop it, you can't stop it. If you help sick people, you will be strong. You can't stop it.

Then some people always say to me, what about Bhagavad Gita?

[Говорящий 2] (40:14 - 40:21)
In the Bhagavad Gita, Krishna talked to Arjuna.

[Говорящий 1] (40:26 - 40:29)
Krishna said to Arjuna, don't be attached to karma.

[Говорящий 2] (40:35 - 40:48)
Help other people. Help them make money. Help lonely people.

Help sick people. Don't be attached to get something back.

[Говорящий 1] (40:51 - 41:07)
Don't be attached to the result. Then they say, therefore, we shouldn't think about what's going to come. That's okay.

That's not attachment.

[Говорящий 2] (41:08 - 41:25)
That's not what attachment means. You say, I give someone, I want to find a beautiful partner, so I will help lonely people. That's not attachment.

[Говорящий 1] (41:27 - 41:55)
If you get the beautiful partner, that's also not attachment. What is the meaning of attachment? Try to get the partner the wrong way.

The person who looks for their partner on the internet has attachment. The person who looks for their partner in the nightclub has attachment.

[Говорящий 2] (42:03 - 42:08)
The person who goes to the Buddhist retreat to find a partner, they have attachment.

[Говорящий 1] (42:10 - 42:14)
Why? Because they are trying the wrong way.

[Говорящий 2] (42:17 - 42:18)
It doesn't work.

[Говорящий 1] (42:19 - 42:22)
Many people come to Buddhist retreat and don't find partner.

[Говорящий 2] (42:26 - 42:32)
That means going to Buddhist retreat doesn't cause partner.

[Говорящий 1] (42:34 - 42:54)
To think that is attachment. What is not attachment? If the retreat starts on 15th of January, 16th?

17th of January, then from the 1st of January you go to the nursing home to help the lonely person.

[Говорящий 2] (43:01 - 43:06)
Plant the seed which always works.

[Говорящий 1] (43:07 - 43:14)
Then go to the retreat. Then you always find a partner. That's not attachment.

[Говорящий 2] (43:17 - 43:20)
That's non-attachment.

[Говорящий 1] (43:20 - 43:53)
Attachment means attachment to the partner who is not there. There is no partner coming to the retreat who didn't come from taking care of people in the old folks home. There is no such partner.

[Говорящий 2] (43:55 - 44:16)
That's emptiness. If you try to find the partner that you can get without helping lonely people, this is attachment. And that's what Krishna is talking about in the Bhagavad Gita.

[Говорящий 1] (44:18 - 44:22)
It's not wrong to expect something good to happen when you do something good.

[Говорящий 2] (44:22 - 44:31)
Of course it will happen. If you drop a pen it will fall.

[Говорящий 1] (44:33 - 44:36)
If you help a lonely person you will get a partner.

[Говорящий 2] (44:38 - 44:40)
You can't stop it.

[Говорящий 1] (44:40 - 45:13)
Even if you want to stop it, you can't stop it. I don't want partner. I don't want a partner.

They're going to have a partner. I have one lady. I won't tell where she's from because you will guess who she is.

She came to me. She said, I want a partner, Geshe Michael. I said, then help some lonely person.

Find an old lady in the nursing home.

[Говорящий 2] (45:15 - 45:17)
Help her. Partner will come.

[Говорящий 1] (45:20 - 45:41)
Then later I gave a talk in another country. I'm not going to tell you which country because you will guess who she is. I gave a talk to some business people.

When I came out of the talk she's standing there.

[Говорящий 2] (45:44 - 45:58)
She got in an airplane for eight hours just to ask me one question. I said, how's it going? Good, bad, good, bad, good, bad.

[Говорящий 1] (45:59 - 46:19)
So what are you talking about? I tried your system. Did it work?

Yes. What's the problem? I thought maybe it will work faster if I have five old ladies.

But now I have a problem.

[Говорящий 2] (46:20 - 46:26)
What's the problem? Five boyfriends. Five boys chasing me.

[Говорящий 1] (46:28 - 46:40)
Then I have to ... If you help one old lady, one partner going to come. You can't stop it.

If you help five, five are going to come. I'm sorry.

[Говорящий 2] (46:44 - 47:08)
So then we have to solve this problem. If you meet a teacher, good teacher, if you are willing to work hard for a long time, many disappointments, many disappointments, many failures, each time you fail, you get back up.

[Говорящий 1] (47:12 - 47:22)
Becoming Buddha is like walking into the boxing match. Many times you will get hit.

[Говорящий 2] (47:23 - 47:24)
Fall down.

[Говорящий 1] (47:25 - 48:47)
One, two, three. Then you have to get back up. Just keep getting back up.

Then you become a Buddha. Nobody can stop it. You can't stop it.

Good teacher meets a tough ass student. Then you're going to have a Buddha kick. Nobody can stop it.

That book by the way, that quotation is Nagarjuna wrote a book called The Five Steps, Panchakrama, The Five Steps. It's a very secret book. You will read it later.

But I thought maybe it's sexy to tell you some of the five things. The Five Steps of Nagarjuna's Secret Book. Those of you who studied at Diamond Mountain, you know.

First one is called Dorje Depa. This is a special mantra.

[Говорящий 2] (48:49 - 48:54)
You use your breath to prepare for that special mantra.

[Говорящий 1] (48:57 - 50:43)
You must do the meditation which we did today. So that meditation is not just to help one person. It plants a seed for secret practice many years later.

In Sanskrit it's called Vajra Japas. Vajra Japas. Diamond recitation.

The second one is called Tamche Dakshi Namadakpe Rinpoche. By the way, this is why this teaching is going to take 12 or 14 years. I'd like to go find more information for you and bring it back for you.

Tamche Dakshi Namadakpe Rinpoche Tamche Dakshi Namadakpe Rinpoche means you learn to see everything as a paradise. We talked about it in Guadalajara. How to find angels.

We already talked about it. But those of you who care, by the way, when I go to China, I love going to China. There are the best students in the world, almost better than Guadalajara.

But you say, in China you say, do you want to go deeper? And they say, yes! So, do you want to go deeper?

[Говорящий 2] (50:43 - 50:45)
If you want to go deeper.

[Говорящий 1] (50:50 - 51:06)
That second step was actually designed by another teacher before Nagarjuna, or it was written down by a different teacher. His name is Shakyashinyen, which means like Shakyamitra.

[Говорящий 2] (51:06 - 51:24)
So if you're in a debate someday, and somebody says, did Nagarjuna write the five steps of Nagarjuna? You have to say, only four.

[Говорящий 1] (51:26 - 51:54)
Okay, like that. Somebody found a video of my Geshe examination. I was very proud.

I saw it yesterday. I'm like, oh, he's so cool. Anyway, I'll show you sometime.

But there's a ... maybe somebody will ask you this question, so you have to do that.

[Говорящий 2] (51:56 - 51:57)
Number three.

[Говорящий 1] (51:58 - 52:05)
Swadhishthana. Swadhishthana. Blessing yourself.

Did you hear this word before?

[Говорящий 2] (52:05 - 52:08)
Swadhishthana? What is it?

[Говорящий 1] (52:09 - 52:10)
It's a chakra. Which one?

[Говорящий 2] (52:10 - 52:11)
It's a chakra.

[Говорящий 1] (52:14 - 52:16)
You can say lower back or something like that.

[Говорящий 2] (52:16 - 52:24)
Lower spine. But it has a special meaning in yoga.

[Говорящий 1] (52:26 - 52:45)
And yoga is higher Buddhism. Higher Buddhism. Okay, so we learn it later.

Number four. Chok tu sangway dewang ngunpar chok chu bya rinpa This is related to bliss. The feeling of bliss.

[Говорящий 2] (52:49 - 52:50)
Inner bliss.

[Говорящий 1] (52:52 - 53:15)
And then step five is called sungjuk. What's sungjuk? Sungjuk is tantric Buddhahood.

Tantric Buddhahood. So in tantra we don't say enlightenment. We say combination of the two.

[Говорящий 2] (53:17 - 53:20)
What are the two?

[Говорящий 1] (53:22 - 54:21)
You look, rainbow body. Arco iris corpo. And clear light.

Then, you don't know what that is and I'll teach you later. That comes at the end of the movie. Okay, we'll go to the next verse of the Tibetan.

We're coming back to the text now. By the way, that's why we're doing yoga, obviously. It's part of the higher teachings.

And we're getting you ready for the higher teachings. So, today you will do some yoga. Just do it, okay?

Today we'll do yoga.

[Говорящий 2] (54:23 - 54:26)
Some people will do dance, special dance.

[Говорящий 1] (54:28 - 54:32)
These are both very high practices.

[Говорящий 2] (54:32 - 54:43)
Supposed to move the chi in the body. If you move the chi, it helps the body to become Buddha body.

[Говорящий 1] (54:46 - 55:26)
So, I don't like exercise. I hate exercise. My friend always tells me, you want to go running?

You say, is there a bear chasing us? I say, no, no bear. I say, then why run?

I don't want to run. I say, no, I don't want to go running. I like books.

I don't like exercise. But every day I go to yoga class because I know it will help me.

[Говорящий 2] (55:28 - 55:28)
Keep me young.

[Говорящий 1] (55:30 - 55:38)
Keep me strong. I don't become pang or gordito. Gordito.

Gordo.

[Говорящий 2] (55:42 - 55:47)
And then also it helps me to become a Buddha.

[Говорящий 1] (55:47 - 55:54)
So, okay, I'll do it. And I try to smile. I look at the clock a lot.

[Говорящий 2] (55:59 - 56:03)
So, just do it, okay? Go in the room, do it.

[Говорящий 1] (56:07 - 56:14)
You are a tough guy student. You can do one hour of yoga.

[Говорящий 2] (56:16 - 56:19)
It's not going to hurt you.

[Говорящий 1] (56:19 - 56:50)
Okay, we have five more minutes. RIG ROL THUG PA'I TZIN RIG ROL THUG PA'I TZIN NAS MAR LHUNG BA NA If you fall off a high cliff like at Umeshan, LA LOGS MNYAM YANG RDOG PAR MI NUS Halfway down you can say, I wish I could go back to the top. MI NUS MI NUS means it's not going to happen.

[Говорящий 2] (56:50 - 56:52)
But MI NUS means that it's not going to happen.

[Говорящий 1] (56:52 - 57:44)
LAM MA BSTAN GZUGS LAM MA BSTAN GZUGS JI ZHING BCUG NAS If you treat your teacher properly, and if you study properly, DE'I GRANGS PA NA that karma will pull you. KHOR BA LAS MI ROL MNYAM You can think, I don't want to get in line. I don't want to get in line.

GRU BAR GYUR But you're going to get in line. Doesn't matter. You don't want to get in line, you're going to get in line.

DE LA MA BSTAN NAS But if you don't find a good teacher, CHUNG ZAD TZAM YANG GRU BAR MI NUS You can't go anywhere. Not possible. You won't go anywhere.

[Говорящий 2] (57:46 - 57:47)
You'll waste your whole life.

[Говорящий 1] (57:49 - 57:50)
And life goes fast, okay?

[Говорящий 2] (57:50 - 57:52)
Trust me.

[Говорящий 1] (57:53 - 57:57)
Your life will go like that. You will be 61 years old. What happened?

What happened?

[Говорящий 2] (58:00 - 58:08)
It's gone. I don't have chance now. So, do it now.

Find a good teacher.

[Говорящий 1] (58:10 - 59:20)
And then connect with them properly. I went to India to find a teacher. You just pay love and respect.

I had to pay many diarrheas. Then, I don't know. I was looking for a teacher.

Then I found out you don't have to go to India. You can plant a teacher. We will talk about it.

But you have to plant a teacher. Okay. That brings us to the second category, the second sales pitch.

NYID PA LA MA LA We have about a few minutes. My clock stopped. Oh, I'm sorry, this clock stopped.

[Говорящий 2] (59:20 - 59:21)
Your computer.

[Говорящий 1] (59:21 - 1:00:34)
You are going to study forever. Okay, I'll just tell you the first sentence. I'm sorry.

NYID PA LA MA LA CHOS KYI NYANG KUR BA KYANG SANGS RGYAS KYI GO PHA LA NYE BA YIN TE SANGS RGYAS KYI GO PHA LA TSOGS PAG TU MED PA ZHIG ZAG DGOS LA So, to become enlightened, you have to make a lot of good karma. You have to plant some powerful seeds. So the second benefit is, if you have a teacher, you can plant the karma that you need to plant to become enlightened.

Why? We talk about it later. But, how do you treat your teacher?

[Говорящий 2] (1:00:37 - 1:00:47)
If you treat your teacher properly, that's the most powerful karma you can make. Why?

[Говорящий 1] (1:00:48 - 1:01:03)
We have to talk about it. We'll talk about it. Alright?

That's the second sales pitch. Okay, we stop there. So we'll dedicate the good karma, then we'll tell you what's next.

[Говорящий 2] (1:01:04 - 1:01:07)
We'll dedicate the good karma, and then we'll tell you what's next.

[Говорящий 1] (1:01:09 - 1:01:11)
Hieronimo, you have this thing?
