[Говорящий 1] (0:00 - 3:33)
Okay, we're on the first of the seven parts of preparing for meditation. And that's bowing down to your teachers. And we're going to continue with that.

Chak Tsawe Panyin, you got it? Chak Tsawe Panyin, yang le nam je kyi do le. So he's going to list all the good things that will happen to you if you practice prostration, practice bowing.

Then he's going to quote le nam je kyi do. Le nam je means the categories of karma. I'm not sure it's a sutra, but anyway, there's a book in the Tengyur called le nam je, which means the divisions of karma.

So anyway, he says suk sang shing ser kyi kadok tabur gyurwa. If you practice prostrations, then your body will be healthy, and also your complexion will change to a beautiful complexion. And there are ten benefits like that.

And he doesn't tell you the ten, so I went and got them for you. The first one is that you look healthy and your complexion becomes more beautiful. That's number one.

And for us, you could do it during your yoga, you know? The Surya Namaskara. It is a namaskara.

Namaskara means prostration. You can practice prostrations. My teacher, he kept a big wooden board in the temple.

And he had two, what do you call that? Sheep, sheepskin? Is it sheepskin or fuzzy sheep?

What do you call it? Wool. Two wool mittens.

Then he would do, Tibetan lamas, they do maybe fifty prostrations a day, or a hundred prostrations a day, or two hundred a day. It's very good for your health also. I used to think it was a little bit strange to do it for exercise.

It seemed strange to me. But now this, I got his age, I think it's okay. I think if your motivation is good, then you can do them during your yoga.

[Говорящий 2] (3:33 - 3:38)
You can do your prostrations during your yoga.

[Говорящий 1] (3:39 - 4:02)
And my experience is that the people I know who do yoga every day, I think these things happen to them also. The prana starts to move and they start to change. When the first time I went to Guangzhou, everybody looked tired.

[Говорящий 2] (4:04 - 4:05)
First time.

[Говорящий 1] (4:08 - 4:09)
Now they all look like shining.

[Говорящий 2] (4:10 - 4:12)
They are very beautiful.

[Говорящий 1] (4:14 - 7:24)
They started to do yoga every day, now they teach yoga. I think Jasmine taught a class today. So the first thing is your complexion will change.

Number two, ,RDZE BZHIN GMIG TU GDUG PAR GYUR BA, means you will look more beautiful to other people. ,SKAD GNYEN ZHING GSUNG BA'I TSIG TU GYUR BA, When you talk, it will sound sweet to other people and they will believe what you say. Number four, ,PHAG BSAL BA MED PAR, ,'KHOR GYI RNAM DU SGROL BAR GYUR BA DANG, You won't feel nervous to talk to a big group of people.

Number five, ,LHA DAG MI RNAM DGA' BAR GYUR BA, means people and also angels will be happy with you. Number six is, ,SRID RGYI CHEN PO'I RGYUR BA, means ,RGYA RDI'A, you have RGYA RDI'A. It means like those flamenco dancers.

They have, what do you call that in English? Presence, like yeah, big presence. Okay.

Number seven, ,SRID RGYI CHEN PO'I GANG ZAG DI LTA STE, ,SANGS RGYAS CHUNG DON DE RNAM DANG, ,CHAN GYUR SEMS PA RNAM DANG, ,SANGS RGYAS KYI GNYEN TE RNAM DANG, ,DUG PAR GYUR BA DANG, And then, other people with style will want to be around you. You will attract other people con estilo. Number eight, ,LONG CHU CHE BA RGYUR BA, Your finances will improve also.

Number nine, ,MTHO RIS KYI RGYUR BA GYUR BA, If you pass away, you will be born in a good place. In a good place. Number ten is, ,GNYER DU YONGS SU MYA NGAN LAS BDA BA, You will quickly reach enlightenment.

Then it took me a long time to figure out the ten, so you should not lose those ten.

[Говорящий 2] (7:27 - 7:32)
The scripture is a little bit confusing.

[Говорящий 1] (7:34 - 9:35)
I recently had a couple came to me, and they were having some trouble between them. Pretty serious trouble. Then I was studying these ten at that time.

And I thought, well there must be a reason why I'm studying the ten when they ask me about their problem. So I said, I want both of you to do prostrations every day. Maybe like fifty, or a hundred.

Then they were in a very bad space. They were fighting and stuff. Then they started, they did them.

And then after two weeks, they both look fantastic. We were on Skype together, and they are all hugging each other. So I think, if you're having some problem in your life, like depression, or you're having some problem with your wife, or your husband, or family, you can try that.

Do like fifty surya namaskars every morning, and it changes your mind. And it changes the situation. So that's my own experience.

Oftentimes when we are having trouble with our partner or family, it's because we are sitting in the house and we are not doing anything. Also, if your partner starts to complain, you can say, I'm sorry, I have to do fifty surya namaskars.

[Говорящий 2] (9:36 - 9:46)
You know? Geshe Michael told me to.

[Говорящий 1] (9:48 - 10:51)
Then somehow the tension will break. And you both start to laugh and feel comfortable. But just to sit in the house together when you are tense, that's a bad idea.

Okay, now next part. GZHAN YANG MDO DE LAS LUG GIS JI TZAM RNAMS PA'I SA BDOD GRANGS KYIS KHOR LUS RGYUR BA STONG RGYUR RE SON NAM THOB PAR GSUNGS Then he says, when you stretch your body on the ground in prostration, then all of the ground beneath your body, each piece of dust, if you count that many down to the middle of the earth, you will get that much good karma seeds.

[Говорящий 2] (10:52 - 10:59)
And each seed, each one of those seeds, STONG RGYUR can make you it 1,000 times.

[Говорящий 1] (11:03 - 11:58)
KHOR LUS RGYUR BA. KHOR LUS RGYUR BA means Chakravartin. What is Chakravartin?

Do you know? Yeah, president of the world. President of the world.

Yeah, each piece of dust 1,000 times. Has that power. Then I thought, oh, I have to go find this sutra.

He just said from some sutra. He didn't say the name. So I went, I found it.

It's in a book by a lama named Sarah Jetson. Sarah Jetson. He wrote the ...

His name also, Lobsang Chukyi Gyeltsin, so don't confuse him with First Panchen Lama.

[Говорящий 2] (12:01 - 12:02)
Chukyi Gyeltsin.

[Говорящий 1] (12:04 - 12:36)
So they have the same name. Sometimes people confuse them. This one, he wrote the textbooks for Sarah J, the other half of Sarah.

You belong to Sarah Mae. Sarah has two parts. It's one of the three biggest monasteries in the world.

You belong to Sarah Mae. Mae means the second half of Sarah.

[Говорящий 2] (12:41 - 12:44)
Because your teacher comes from Sarah Mae.

[Говорящий 1] (12:44 - 12:47)
So if somebody asks you, what is your monastery? You say Sarah Mae.

[Говорящий 2] (12:49 - 12:56)
Then he wrote the book for Sarah J, that's the other half.

[Говорящий 1] (12:58 - 13:00)
Then those books are okay.

[Говорящий 2] (13:07 - 13:15)
Actually, he was the teacher of the person who wrote our textbooks, Sarah Mae.

[Говорящий 1] (13:15 - 13:18)
Kedrup Tenpa Dargye. He wrote our books. Kedrup Tenpa Dargye.

[Говорящий 2] (13:18 - 13:28)
He wrote Umachidan, which we studied for ten years now.

[Говорящий 1] (13:28 - 14:44)
Then if you debate with a Sarah J guy, he will say, your teacher's teacher said ... Then we always say, sometimes the student outdoes the teacher, you know. Outshines the teacher.

So there's a debate like that. I'm not going to read you the whole section from the sutra, but the context of that quotation is very sad. He said, even if you do your prostrations, and your body covers a lot of earth, and you get that many good karma seeds, and each one can make you king of the world one thousand times, but if you get really angry for five minutes, it will destroy all those seeds.

[Говорящий 2] (14:44 - 14:46)
That's the context.

[Говорящий 1] (14:47 - 15:07)
Okay? So, be careful. By the way, the sutra is called ...

Peltsek. Sometimes called Ratnakuta.

[Говорящий 2] (15:09 - 15:09)
Okay.

[Говорящий 1] (15:10 - 15:12)
Jigme is cataloging it nowadays.

[Говорящий 2] (15:13 - 15:15)
He's cataloging those sutras.

[Говорящий 1] (15:16 - 16:13)
kyang chak di gyu ne kyang she ching pen chen narope kyang chak sheshe tse So some people say, oh, I'm a big yogi. I don't need to do this. I do high meditation.

I don't need to do this prostration thing. Then he said, even in the ... kyang chak di gyu ne sheshe ching means you can find the full prostration is taught in tantra, in the tantras.

And also, Naropa. Who is Naropa? The spiritual partner of Niguma.

[Говорящий 2] (16:13 - 16:13)
Lady Niguma.

[Говорящий 1] (16:15 - 19:55)
So he says, Naropa also enjoyed doing prostrations a lot. He did a lot of prostrations. And I went and found some stories about that.

His student, one of his ... what do you call it? His grandstudent was Milarepa, right?

Milarepa. And there's a story where Milarepa was going to meet his teacher, so he decided to do kyang chak the whole way. Which I'm not asking you to do.

I'm not even hinting that you should do. Then Milarepa's teacher criticized him. He ruined his clothes, his robes.

And he said, you should do the short one like Naropa does. It's okay. If Naropa can do the short one, you can do the short one.

Let's see here. Then it said, another book says that Naropa enjoyed doing the long one. And that the full prostration in Tibet became popular because of Naropa.

And that the short, the five-point version is from the Vinaya, from the monk's tradition. pen yin la yi che na suk dang gang la kyang di le ring tsam yun na nyam pa jung she pur chok ngawa jangpe sung sul There was a lama named Pur Chok Ngawang Jampa. He was the teacher of one of the old Dalai Lamas.

And he said, and he wrote the logic book for our monasteries. He said, if you really understand the good karma that you make from prostration, then you will wish that your arms and your legs were a little bit longer. You can cover more dirt.

Now they're going to talk about how you join your hands, like how you join them here. tel mo tsar lab ni mud tepe lug yinpe Then in India, before Buddhism, the custom was to go like this. neb ni mud tepe lug yinpe rang re de mi chawa But in Buddhism, we usually try to...

you put your thumbs inside. Personally, when I do yoga, I like to do it this way. That's okay.

But when you are bowing to somebody, in the Buddhist tradition, yes, you put your thumbs inside.

[Говорящий 2] (19:57 - 20:03)
Then it means you are holding a jewel in your hand.

[Говорящий 1] (20:04 - 21:27)
And it's like you are offering this person a ruby, or a big ruby, or a big sapphire, or something like that. nam chub nabu yin tabu chi de chuwar shakpe When you put it on your forehead, sorry, head, top of your head, you are making the karma for the Buddha's... what do you call this thing?

Bump. There's a bump on Buddha's head. You can see here.

So when you touch this here, you think, oh, I want to have this head of a Buddha. I had a student in New Jersey. He said, I'm going to skip that.

I don't like that bump. But it has special meaning. You should do it.

Then on your... we call it mintsam. This is called mintsam.

buru vormadya in Sanskrit. Then you put it here. It will grow a special...

when you become a Buddha, it will grow a special... there's a special one small hair here.

[Говорящий 2] (21:32 - 21:35)
When you pull it, it will reach to Mars.

[Говорящий 1] (21:39 - 22:31)
It helps the Buddha to have knowledge of other things, other worlds. So when you touch it here, you think, oh, I will have a knowledge of other worlds. dim bar shak ne sung yang yin la chuk chu When you put it here at your throat, so you don't have to go like that, okay?

You can just go like this. But it's at the level of your throat. It means you will have the karma to have the voice of a Buddha.

That voice has 60 different qualities.

[Говорящий 2] (22:31 - 22:42)
The most important one in the Yoga Sutra, sarva buddha rudaxi nyana What is that?

[Говорящий 1] (22:44 - 25:28)
You can speak all languages. And you can... Buddha speaks in Sanskrit.

Then strange, everybody hears their own language. Then that's mentioned in the Bible also, right? The disciples, after the crucifixion, they started speaking in other languages by accident.

So, this is the main... When you touch here, when you do the prostration, you go like that, then you think, oh, I want to have this quality. I want to speak in all the languages of the world.

I think we have just about the beginning of that karma here. Like today, I was very happy to hear Vivian speak, teach us in Chinese language. And I think we should try to learn each other's languages.

And that plants a seed for this Buddha's voice. So, even if you just learn like taco, burrito, churro, the important words. Or yo chow.

Luch is a churro in China. We should try to learn... When you sit for lunch, then sit with the other person and say, teach me three words from your language.

And it will plant a seed for this voice. We wanted, me and Alejandro, we wanted to put some language class in this program. But there wasn't any time.

We thought we would make you too tired. But I really ask you to try to learn the language of the other people here, a little bit. Okay.

NYIN GAR ZHAGS PA'I THUGS SGRUB PA'I GNOD PA SBYONG When you... So there's four places, right? One, two, three, and then four is your heart.

[Говорящий 2] (25:31 - 25:37)
Then, that plants a seed to think like a Buddha.

[Говорящий 1] (25:37 - 25:57)
So I will have Buddha's head. Then I will have the Buddha's ability to see other worlds. I will speak all the languages of all the people.

And I will love everybody like a Buddha.

[Говорящий 2] (25:59 - 26:02)
Then you go down.

[Говорящий 1] (26:03 - 29:19)
All right. NYIN GAR ZHAGS PA'I THUGS SGRUB PA'I GNOD PA SBYONG DE'I SAGS CANG GNYIS DKA' BYUNG BA'I LUNG NA YI GSUNGS KYIS SDIG SDIG BDAG So, by doing these prostrations, you are doing two of the preparations for meditation. You are making new good karma, and you are removing old bad karma.

In body, speech, and mind. It purifies all of them. LUS SA LA BAB DANG, DANG BA'I SKABS RDZUS MO KUN NA DON DROG MI SDUM DU SKYE BA'I RGYU BYAS PA GSUNGS PAS There's an oral tradition.

It's not in the scriptures. That when you go down, when you put your hands on the ground, you shouldn't put your thumb underneath. The fingers should be spread wide.

They say if you don't spread the fingers wide, if they are like a ... KUM again means a little clenched, or something like this. Then they say the karma is to have a hoof later.

A what? A hoof, shoe of a horse. Like a cow, you know, this one.

Those of you who are learning Tibetan, that's MIG SDUM. MIG SDUM means hoofs. SHIBS DE SA LA BRTAM means you should spread your fingers wide.

KHU TSOR MO BYA means don't bunch them up. CHAGS SHAB TU TSOR MO BRTA BA'I BRAL BAR GRUB There's 112 special signs of a Buddha. 32 big ones.

80 small ones. Someday I will teach you all of them. But one of them is that when you become a Buddha, there's more skin between your fingers.

Like a duck or something like that. Like a duck. There's a little bit of, not all the way, but there's more skin here.

When you do your prostrations, you go down like that. It helps to create this seed for this.

[Говорящий 2] (29:21 - 29:29)
So Buddha's body is a little bit different from ours.

[Говорящий 1] (29:29 - 29:47)
YAR DANG BA'I SKABS KHOR BA LA'I MYUR DU DANG BA'I RTEN BRAL GYI MED YOD PAS So when you get up, the tradition in Buddhism is you should get up fast. You can go down slow.

[Говорящий 2] (29:50 - 29:51)
Gracefully.

[Говорящий 1] (29:52 - 31:18)
But when you get up, you get up really fast. And that has a significance that you don't want to stay in the lower birth. You want to come out fast.

And you want to get out of samsara quickly. RTEN BRAL GYI MED YOD PAS YAR MYUR DU DANG BA'I BA'A'KHYUG PA LTAR DGOS You should get up quickly like a fox after it vomits. So that seems a little bit strange to put in a book, right?

But there's a special ... in yoga in Tibet, there's a special ... like the first exercise we did in the flamenco, there's a special exercise you do to loosen the back.

So you go down, they call it dagmo gyupa. Dagmo gyupa means you go down like a tigress who is throwing up.

[Говорящий 2] (31:22 - 31:23)
Like that.

[Говорящий 1] (31:23 - 31:37)
It's just like the flamenco we did today. And it does something to your prana. There's even a picture of it.

I got you a picture of it, okay? I'll give it to you this evening.

[Говорящий 2] (31:37 - 31:39)
I'll put it up this evening, okay?

[Говорящий 1] (31:39 - 31:59)
It's in the asanas of Naropa, and you're supposed to come down a certain way. The carving is not that great, but it's okay. Martha Graham was big on that movement.

[Говорящий 2] (32:03 - 32:13)
She thought it was very important that you'd be able to move from here. It does something to your prana.

[Говорящий 1] (32:13 - 32:45)
Okay, tar gut. YANG NYUD DU MA DANG BAR MNYAL BA LTAR BYAS NA If you go down for a prostration and you hang out at the bottom, BYAS NA, LTAR BYAS SO GRANGS RDO'I RIGS SU SKYE BA'I, you will take a rebirth as GRANGS RDO. GRANGS RDO means, what do you call?

Bujanga. Bujanga. Okay, Bujanga.

[Говорящий 2] (32:46 - 32:47)
What's Bujanga?

[Говорящий 1] (32:49 - 35:09)
Bujanga is cobra, right? Bujanga. The Tibetan translation is GRANGS RDO or LANGS RDO.

And BUJ means a hand. BUJANGA means to go on the hand. And it means snakes travel on their stomach.

Oh, how did you get that? That's good. I gave it to you by accident.

The third asana from the left is BDAG MO RGYUD PA, okay? BDAG MO RGYUD PA, which is the tiger's vomiting. Woman tiger.

The idea is, it's core. They call it core work nowadays. They don't call it tiger vomiting.

It's supposed to make your core strong. And it's the same movement that we did in the flamenco. Okay.

So, BUJANGA means travels on their hand or travels on the arm, which means a snake. YANG SOGS DANG BDAG NAS GO THUGS DE THUGS PA MI BYA Once you touch your head, don't hang out. Get it right off the ground.

THUGS PONG, right back up. CHAGS SNGA PHYI'I BAR DU LUS LAS PA MA SANGS PAR When you get up, you should get all the way up and don't ... what do you call that?

Straighten your shoulders. SNGA PHYI'I BAR means between prostrations. Don't be in a rush.

Be like a flamenco dancer. Elbows back, right?

[Говорящий 2] (35:10 - 35:13)
You can see ...

[Говорящий 1] (35:13 - 35:43)
No, really, they want you to come up straight, and then go down again. So, what she taught us today is very good in this system, because your prana will move better. Join your shoulder blades together, and you can see both sides, and then go down again.

[Говорящий 2] (35:44 - 35:44)
Okay?

[Говорящий 1] (35:45 - 36:10)
But don't be lazy. Some people who are in a big hurry, you know, I have to do fifty. They should be with style.

Okay, really, okay, it's better for you. Yeah, if you stay like this and go down again, you could be born as a dundro.

[Говорящий 2] (36:11 - 36:12)
Dundro.

[Говорящий 1] (36:14 - 36:25)
Dundro is the Tibetan word for animal. It's a Sanskrit ... it's a translation of Sanskrit.

The Sanskrit is tiriyanch.

[Говорящий 2] (36:26 - 36:27)
Tiriyanch.

[Говорящий 1] (36:28 - 36:52)
And it means the people who walk bent down. On four legs, bent down. So, if you don't straighten up nicely, then you make a karma to be like a tiriyanch, an animal.

[Говорящий 2] (36:53 - 36:53)
Okay?

[Говорящий 1] (36:57 - 37:20)
I had a friend, they quit Buddhism. Then I said, why? They said, I don't like that explanation.

You tell me I'm going to have hoofs if I go to, if I do my prostration like this?

[Говорящий 2] (37:20 - 37:23)
It's just superstition.

[Говорящий 1] (37:23 - 37:24)
But it's not, okay?

[Говорящий 2] (37:26 - 37:38)
Everything you do creates karma. Every way you move your body creates karma.

[Говорящий 1] (37:38 - 38:06)
So, you should move like an angel. Like a flamenco dancer. And it puts a seed in you to become an angel.

So, I think flamenco is very, very, very good for karma. We should do things like that.

[Говорящий 2] (38:06 - 38:09)
You shouldn't be like this all the time.

[Говорящий 1] (38:10 - 38:17)
Then that becomes a karma also. Okay. It doesn't mean to be proud.

[Говорящий 2] (38:20 - 38:21)
It's like happy.

[Говорящий 1] (38:25 - 39:37)
So, SOGS PA'I PHYIR CHAG RE RIN GNYIS TSUL KHRIMS BSAL BA LAS Okay, so you should do your prostrations slowly and elegantly. DRANG GANG MANG CHE DU RGYOGS CHU MI CHE Don't rush because you want to make more numbers. BYAS KHA SU LA NGON DROG BUM SOGS DRANG LA MTSOR MI RDZAS PAS DRANG MANG PO MA BYUNG YANG BU LAS PA ZHIG CHAG So, we are one of the four lineages in Tibet.

There are four great Buddhist lineages in Tibet. And they are a little bit different, okay? Although our lineage comes also from the other three.

But in some of the other traditions, there's a big emphasis on something called NGON DROG, NGON DROG.

[Говорящий 2] (39:37 - 39:45)
Then it means you should try to do 100,000 prostrations.

[Говорящий 1] (39:45 - 40:18)
You should try to do 100,000 big mandalas. Then Je Tsongkapa said he made a policy in our tradition. I don't want you to do many.

I want them to be elegant. I want to see a nice, slow, beautiful prostration. And if you can't make a hundred thousand, that's okay.

[Говорящий 2] (40:18 - 40:20)
Don't worry about it.

[Говорящий 1] (40:22 - 40:24)
Don't rush it so you can do a hundred thousand.

[Говорящий 2] (40:27 - 40:28)
Do it nice.

[Говорящий 1] (40:30 - 40:52)
Actually, if you do it nice, a hundred thousand will come. I think if you hurry, sometimes those people, they never make a hundred thousand. Then he's not criticizing the other traditions.

Each tradition is good for somebody, or else that tradition will die.

[Говорящий 2] (40:54 - 41:02)
So, whatever tradition fits you, you should follow that tradition.

[Говорящий 1] (41:03 - 42:11)
And everybody's different. It's like to say everybody has to do Ashtanga, or everybody has to do Anussara. This is crazy.

Everybody has a different body. Everybody has a different spirit. So, each tradition has its own beauty.

And in our tradition, we do Sosatru, Jankopé. So, some people say, I finished my mundros.

[Говорящий 2] (42:12 - 42:13)
I finished what?

[Говорящий 1] (42:14 - 44:10)
I finished my mundro practice. So, I don't have to do prostration anymore. Then they don't understand why they are doing prostration.

The purpose of prostration is to clean out bad karma and to make new good karma. So, there's no reason why you shouldn't do it for the rest of your life. Okay.

GOS PA'I RANG LAS LAS DANG PO BA'I MI TSE GZHIL POR BSAGS CANG LAS MI TSE GZHIL POR means for our whole life we should do it. SGOM DANG BSAGS CANG RNAMS LAS BSAGS CANG TSOGS CHE If you had to make a choice between meditating and doing the seven steps, which one is more important? Seven steps.

Okay? So, if you don't have time to do both, it's better to do the preparation and then not meditate. Because if you try to meditate without the seven steps, it's not going to work anyway.

Then you can do the seven steps in your mind in about, we can do it this evening maybe, it takes about, I don't know, it takes three minutes or something in your mind. And you can do it in your mind before you start your meditation. And then the meditation is really fantastic.

[Говорящий 2] (44:13 - 44:18)
Meditation can take many months to learn.

[Говорящий 1] (44:19 - 46:06)
I think sometimes nowadays people teach meditation but they were not trained in meditation. It's like in piano, I don't know, you do it, dee dee dee dee dee dee dee dee dee dee dee dee dee dee dee dee dee dee dee dee dee dee dee. It's like that.

They didn't learn how to play piano. They just know how to do this one thing, you know. Meditation training is very deep.

It's very beautiful. And you should learn the whole thing. Then you can play Mozart or Beethoven.

Okay. Gomta Sarchangne Tsongkapa says, NGON DRO DANG ZHING ZHES GZER NAS, LO DE BUL GYIS SO SRAG GZOD DER DU THEG PA'I KHAR YANG MI LAS, you can't relax and say, I finished my hundred thousand prostrations. Now I can just relax.

I don't need to do those anymore. SOGS SRAG GYUR CANG CHUNG NA, BU MI LONG BA'I NGAL BA DANG, SEMS PHYIR BYA MI DGOS PAR If you do the seven steps carefully, and you don't make a hundred thousand, just relax. It's better to do them sweetly, than to try to rush and make a hundred thousand.

[Говорящий 2] (46:07 - 46:11)
Then he tells a famous story.

[Говорящий 1] (46:12 - 46:34)
Then we'll take a break, okay? SNGAR TZAM PA ZHIG Long ago, four people decided to do a retreat together. PHYI KHYI GRANGS MA LONG PA NA, they were trying to see if they could do NGON DRO.

[Говорящий 2] (46:39 - 46:47)
And one of the three was always behind in his numbers.

[Говорящий 1] (46:47 - 46:49)
This story comes later again.

[Говорящий 2] (46:51 - 47:01)
You will hear it two years from now. The whole story. It comes later in the same book.

[Говорящий 1] (47:01 - 48:13)
That yogi's name was Atar. Atar. I always think he's Arthur or something.

Then the other three guys criticized Atar because he was always behind in his numbers. He's supposed to do a hundred thousand prostrations, and he can only do like ten in one day. Then they asked him, so what number did you get to today?

And then he answered, are we doing numbers or are we doing prostrations? So, that's a famous story. You're going to hear it again later.

Okay, last thing. DE YANG RAB NA ZAL TSUL BSANGS LA GRANGS MANG BA ZHIG DGOS But, ideally, why not go for both?

[Говорящий 2] (48:17 - 48:23)
Nice prostrations, done elegantly, and a hundred thousand of them.

[Говорящий 1] (48:25 - 48:46)
Oh, I see we're almost finished with this lesson. Let's go a little bit more. Just two more minutes.

GRANGS TZI BA RJES SO YID RANG GI DGE BA'ONG CHAD YIN The reason we keep a count of doing mantras or doing prostrations, why do we say you have to do a hundred thousand or you have to do too many? Why do we keep a count?

[Говорящий 2] (48:51 - 49:02)
So, in our tantric tradition, in your life, you're supposed to do four big retreats.

[Говорящий 1] (49:02 - 49:20)
Each one takes, I would say, four to six weeks, and you're supposed to do a hundred thousand mantras during those four to six weeks, dedicated to a certain tantric angel.

[Говорящий 2] (49:23 - 49:41)
Then they say, when you finish four hundred thousand, it means four retreats, something happens to you. You do a special fire, which we will do on Monday night.

[Говорящий 1] (49:43 - 49:49)
We will do the same fire. It takes about four or five hours.

[Говорящий 2] (49:50 - 50:05)
Then, when you do the four hundred thousand mantra, after the fourth retreat you do special fire, they say something will happen to you.

[Говорящий 1] (50:05 - 50:07)
So, you know, of course I want to see.

[Говорящий 2] (50:08 - 50:11)
I tried it.

[Говорящий 1] (50:11 - 50:14)
And I don't like this. At the time I thought it was a stupid custom.

[Говорящий 2] (50:17 - 50:20)
I have to count my mantras.

[Говорящий 1] (50:20 - 50:24)
You do one hundred, then you have to make a line, then you do a hundred.

[Говорящий 2] (50:26 - 50:31)
But I did it because my teacher told me to do it.

[Говорящий 1] (50:32 - 50:40)
But I didn't believe something special was going to happen to me. Then I finished the four hundred thousand.

[Говорящий 2] (50:42 - 50:44)
I did the fire.

[Говорящий 1] (50:44 - 50:46)
Immediately something happened.

[Говорящий 2] (50:47 - 50:51)
Something fantastic, something incredible.

[Говорящий 1] (50:51 - 51:06)
Then I was like, wow, that's really true. Now I still have that paper with the numbers on it. I like to look at it every day.

[Говорящий 2] (51:09 - 51:21)
So he said here, the reason we keep the number, he said, later you can enjoy that paper.

[Говорящий 1] (51:21 - 51:38)
Oh, that's how that miracle happened to me. So, my own experience. And I didn't believe what the teacher said.

I didn't believe. But I tried it.

[Говорящий 2] (51:39 - 51:40)
It works.

[Говорящий 1] (51:40 - 52:02)
So, my own experience, it really works. And I didn't think it was going to work. BYANG SRID BA'I RJES SU YI RANG NI, SPYIR NA CHAGS CHAD PA SHAR DAG SHOR LA CHAD DU YOD TE Those of you learning Tibetan, you can learn a new expression.

It's called SHAR DAG SHOR LA.

[Говорящий 2] (52:02 - 52:05)
Say SHAR DAG SHOR LA.

[Говорящий 1] (52:06 - 52:50)
SHAR DAG SHOR LA It means you can do little prostrations all day long. So, I studied ballet. I did ballet for, I don't know, I started when I was 50.

And I still do ballet. Some ballet I still do. Then, there's a famous teacher called George Balanchine.

But he told his, he had the most beautiful dancers in the world.

[Говорящий 2] (52:50 - 52:52)
These ladies.

[Говорящий 1] (52:54 - 53:18)
He started in New York City ballet. But he also danced in the Russian ballet, which is the best in the world. So, he told his ballet, the ballerina, when you are cooking and you go from the counter to the refrigerator, I want to see three pirouettes.

[Говорящий 2] (53:26 - 53:33)
And when you pick up the knife to cut the vegetables, don't go like this.

[Говорящий 1] (53:36 - 53:36)
I want to see.

[Говорящий 2] (53:45 - 53:45)
Like that.

[Говорящий 1] (53:45 - 53:54)
And everything should be graceful. Did you see how the flamenco teachers, how they tell us to shut up?

[Говорящий 2] (53:58 - 54:06)
They didn't go, stop, now stop, stop. They were like, Right?

[Говорящий 1] (54:07 - 55:34)
They didn't tell us, okay, everybody stop, everybody stop. They didn't go like that. They're like, You know?

Then, in Tibetan that's called, CHOS LAM GYI SNYAMS SBYOR It means, a yogi should be a yogi all day long. You should move like a yogi all day long. And you should be doing prostrations all day long.

So you go to the airport to take the 24-hour flight to Mexico from China. And you see some mother is speaking kindly to her child. You should, then you open your, you know, you do your luggage.

But first you, and you, that means I bow, I bow to you. You're a beautiful mother. You can do that all day long, okay?

You go to, you go to Louisa's and you have some good sushi. And you're like, damn, that's good sushi.

[Говорящий 2] (55:38 - 55:41)
You're a good sushi master.

[Говорящий 1] (55:42 - 56:29)
Then you can enjoy, every person who is doing something beautiful, you can enjoy it. You don't have to save all of your prostrations for the Buddha. Walking to the airport, or in the restaurant.

You see somebody who is beautiful, or somebody is doing beautiful things. You can have your own secret, you know, and you don't have to show everybody, look, I'm doing. You can just go, oh look over there.

You know, and it means you are bowing to all the people in the world.

[Говорящий 2] (56:33 - 56:35)
So it should be all day.

[Говорящий 1] (56:36 - 56:58)
And it makes you a very happy person. Then you are looking for beautiful things. And you are not looking for, oh he's not doing good things, or he's not doing good things, like that.

Okay? Alright, we'll take a break.
