[Говорящий 1] (0:00 - 0:13) First I'd like to thank everyone for coming, especially from so many different places. This is a ten day retreat. [Говорящий 2] (0:15 - 0:17) Ten days is really nine. [Говорящий 1] (0:17 - 1:09) Nine days. The tenth day he will collapse and sleep. That's also a retreat. So many of you came because of DCI program in your country or your city. Those are two or three day programs. And they don't go that deep. They don't go very deep. The meaning is deep, but the detail is not very deep. This is a nine or nine day teaching. This purpose is to go deep. [Говорящий 2] (1:13 - 1:18) So that's more difficult for you. [Говорящий 1] (1:18 - 2:28) My dream is that the Diamond Cutter Institute teachers like Jessica from Beijing, Jasmine and Vivian from Guangzhou. These retreats are for teachers. These are for teachers. So if this is your first program that you came to, probably you will get a little bit of a headache. That's okay. So this is for the tough guys. This is supposed to be a little tough. The class is tough. The classes are long. A lot of detail. There will be homework. That's what we ask you to do. And my experience is maybe one third of you will drop out for next term. [Говорящий 2] (2:36 - 2:37) That's okay. [Говорящий 1] (2:38 - 3:37) Two thirds will become good teachers. So really this is a teacher training. The book is this, the training book is this book. My teacher taught this to us for thirty years. He taught it in three groups. Then I was lucky because I was his attendant, his slave. I have to drive, I have to cook, I have to make money for him. So I got to hear it three times. I thought I would, he gave me his copy of the book. It's a thousand pages. [Говорящий 2] (3:40 - 3:45) When I finished my Geshe, he gave me the book. [Говорящий 1] (3:47 - 4:51) So I like to, you can look at it, okay? I'm going to use the computer, it's easier for me. You can pass, you can look at it, you can do it. Then I think, I was having lunch with my friends recently and they are saying, what's the best book you ever read? And I said, oh this book is the best one. Some people said Don Quixote. Some people say Lamees Howell. Some people say Chinga Jing. I think this is the, for me this is the greatest book. Because from the beginning to the end, how to become enlightened. From the very beginning to the very end. [Говорящий 2] (4:54 - 4:58) It's a complete teaching. [Говорящий 1] (4:59 - 5:07) Then I would like to teach it one time in my life. [Говорящий 2] (5:07 - 5:11) It would take about ten years. [Говорящий 1] (5:11 - 6:54) If we meet like this. So we are, we finished, I don't know how long, we finished two years or something, one and a half years or something. Yeah, but don't worry, we just started. Okay, then we'll start. Last time, in the last class, we couldn't finish, we couldn't finish the whole class, so I'm going to review the last class, and then we'll start something new. And I like it if you take notes, because you have to do your homework. My experience is that if you're going to be a teacher, it's better if you take notes, and you do the homework. It sounds stupid, you can say, I didn't do homework since I was a kid. Now I'm an adult, I can remember everything. Adults remember less. Okay, so please take notes. Later you have to teach it. I can only teach it maybe one time, I think. Then I can't do it again. [Говорящий 2] (6:56 - 7:03) So then it becomes your responsibility. You have to teach it. [Говорящий 1] (7:03 - 8:13) There is a translation of this book. There's two translations. Let's start. So I'm going to review some of the questions that will be on the homework from the last class. Then in this section the teacher is talking about how do we invite our teacher to come to us when we are meditating. Then he told a story. It's called the woman in the box. That's a long story, but I'll tell you again. There was in India a long time ago, there was a woman, she was born a daughter of a king. [Говорящий 2] (8:14 - 8:15) She was born what? [Говорящий 1] (8:15 - 8:16) As a daughter of a king. [Говорящий 2] (8:17 - 8:21) I think her name is Dorje Ma, Dorje. [Говорящий 1] (8:23 - 9:34) The diamond, lady of diamond. But she was very, very ugly. And the king was upset. And he tried to get somebody to marry her. But no one would marry her. Finally he gave her to one of his subjects, like a count or a duke. Then he cannot refuse the gift of the king. But he took her home and he put her in a special room and doesn't let her to come out. Then one day Buddha came to their country. Then everybody wants to go see the Buddha teach. Then he thought, what can I do with this lady? It's his wife. He said, I'll put her in a box. [Говорящий 2] (9:36 - 9:40) So he made a big box for her. [Говорящий 1] (9:40 - 10:02) He put a lock on it. Then he went to see the Buddha. Then after a while some guys, they heard about this lady. Two bad guys. [Говорящий 2] (10:03 - 10:07) They said, we have to see this lady. [Говорящий 1] (10:07 - 10:33) If the duke is afraid to show her to people, she must be very beautiful. So then somebody said, no, he locked her into the box. So they met the duke at the teaching of the Buddha. They said, let's go to a bar. [Говорящий 2] (10:35 - 10:43) They got him drunk and they stole the key from his pocket. Then they went to the duke's house. [Говорящий 1] (10:44 - 11:33) Duke is still at the Buddha's teaching. In the meantime, this princess, she's sitting in the box. She said, I want to see the Buddha. I would like to meet the Buddha. She made a prayer. It came in her mind. Just in her mind. I would love to see the Buddha. Then something happened. There was a little knot in the wood and it fell out. [Говорящий 2] (11:33 - 11:43) There was a little hole and she said, strange, and she looked in the hole and she could see the Buddha. [Говорящий 1] (11:45 - 11:56) Like that. Just by wishing, it created the Buddha outside the box. Not even the whole Buddha, just his head. Top of his head. [Говорящий 2] (12:01 - 12:22) Then by seeing the Buddha, she made so much good karma that her face started to change and her body started to change. In the meantime, those guys are trying to open the lock. [Говорящий 1] (12:22 - 13:02) They are opening the lock, her body is changing. Then finally they open. The most beautiful woman in the kingdom comes out. That's a story that Pabongka Rinpoche, the person who wrote this book, actually it's a teaching that he gave in Tibet, I think 1924. He didn't tell the whole story. He just mentioned her name. [Говорящий 2] (13:03 - 13:12) Then I always go to find the old story. In the sutra, in the jing. [Говорящий 1] (13:15 - 13:57) So Pabongka's student was my teacher's teacher. So, then I will go into the computer and find the whole story for you. In the computer there are, I think about half a million pages of sutra. We are typing them for 25 years. Okay, so why did Pabongka Rinpoche talk about that story? [Говорящий 2] (14:00 - 14:28) It means if you are sitting in your room and you feel sad, or even if you are sitting at Starbucks, Shimbaka, and you feel sad, or you need help, you can invite your teacher, your heart teacher. [Говорящий 1] (14:29 - 14:37) You don't have to use cell phone. You just think, I wish my teacher will come. [Говорящий 2] (14:41 - 14:47) And then the teacher will come. And they will sit next to you. [Говорящий 1] (14:47 - 15:16) You can't always see them. If you are very sensitive, you can feel them, and you can hear them, and you can feel the warmth of their body. Then they are there. They are with you. You don't have to get them airplane ticket. Teacher is a special person. [Говорящий 2] (15:18 - 15:22) When you ask them to come, they will come. [Говорящий 1] (15:23 - 15:54) Like the Buddha came to the lady in the box. She didn't have to use her iPhone. Just wish, and the teacher will come. And then for me this is very useful. Sometimes I feel sad or lonely. I just close my eyes. Even like on the airplane. Then ask teacher to come. [Говорящий 2] (15:55 - 15:59) And the teacher will come. Sit next to you. [Говорящий 1] (15:59 - 16:29) If you meditate, good meditation. Good meditation means every morning 15 minutes, 20 minutes. It doesn't mean you have to go to a cave for three years or something. Just every day. Little bit. Then teacher will come. And you can feel them. And you can ask them questions. [Говорящий 2] (16:29 - 16:31) They will help you. [Говорящий 1] (16:31 - 17:27) And that's true. Then Rinpoche, Pabongka Rinpoche gives reason why. In Buddhism, there are two levels of Buddhism. We call open level and secret. One is called sutra. One is called tantra. Or sometimes called mantra. So, one is everybody can learn. And one is advanced. Fast track. Then in the fast track, the name for enlightenment is different. It's called sung gyu. Say sung gyu. [Говорящий 2] (17:27 - 17:28) Sung gyu. [Говорящий 1] (17:29 - 17:49) Sometimes I will ask you to say something, okay? Then you have to say. Why? Why? Because I want to see if you are still awake. So, I will say something. You have to repeat, okay? [Говорящий 2] (17:52 - 17:59) In the advanced teachings, enlightenment is called sung gyu. Say sung gyu. [Говорящий 1] (18:01 - 18:02) Oh, everybody is still awake. [Говорящий 2] (18:05 - 18:05) Sung gyu. [Говорящий 1] (18:07 - 18:20) I know it's hard to sit for two or three hours. I did it for thirty years. I said, when I become teacher, I'm going to torture them also. [Говорящий 2] (18:26 - 18:35) Then, don't worry, you will have a chance to torture your own students. [Говорящий 1] (18:35 - 18:36) But you have to be tough. [Говорящий 2] (18:38 - 18:42) It's hard to sit for two or three hours. [Говорящий 1] (18:42 - 18:53) First day is easy. Six, seven days, you will be tired. This will be difficult. But you have to be tough. [Говорящий 2] (18:55 - 19:01) This teaching, this teaching can help everybody in your life. [Говорящий 1] (19:04 - 19:19) Everybody in your country. And you have to take it to your country. So, it's your responsibility to learn it. And you have to be a little bit tough. [Говорящий 2] (19:21 - 19:32) When Buddhism came to China, Bodhidharma, Chinese monk, he walked to India. [Говорящий 1] (19:34 - 19:36) He walked back with all the books he carried. [Говорящий 2] (19:39 - 19:40) It took like three years. [Говорящий 1] (19:42 - 19:50) You are just on the airplane for ten hours. And you have to sit for two hours. [Говорящий 2] (19:52 - 19:54) It's not so bad. [Говорящий 1] (19:54 - 20:16) Okay, alright. So, in the advanced teaching, enlightenment is called sung juk. Sung juk means two things joined together. What are the two things? One is called gyu lu. Say gyu lu. [Говорящий 2] (20:17 - 20:17) Gyu lu. [Говорящий 1] (20:18 - 20:46) Good, everybody is awake. And the other half is called ursel. Ursel. So, ursel means clear light. Gyu lu means rainbow body. Body is made of a rainbow. Arco, what do you call it? [Говорящий 2] (20:47 - 20:47) Arcoiris. [Говорящий 1] (20:47 - 21:45) Arcoiris, I love that word. Arcoiris, yeah. One is rainbow body. And then clear light means special mind, Buddhist mind. Everybody has the seed for that inside them now. Every person here has a Buddha seed inside them. Then you meditate, do yoga, study, help other people, poor people, sick people. Those four things together change the body into rainbow body. And the mind becomes clear light. That's a Buddha. [Говорящий 2] (21:46 - 21:50) So everybody here will become a Buddha. [Говорящий 1] (21:50 - 22:18) And it's the combination of clear light and rainbow body. And that combination is called Buddha. Why are we talking about that? When you reach that, when you become Buddha, where your mind goes, your body goes automatically. [Говорящий 2] (22:22 - 22:30) So, clear light mind, it can see all the things in the world. [Говорящий 1] (22:31 - 23:09) Also all the things in the past and all the things in the future. Somebody told me, I don't want to become Buddha. Then there's no reason to wrap my Christmas presents. I know what I'm going to get already. So, for Buddha, knows all things. Can see all things. Why? Heart chakra open. [Говорящий 2] (23:12 - 23:27) If you learn to do good yoga and good meditation, and if you serve the sick people and the poor people, then this will open. And it's fun. [Говорящий 1] (23:29 - 23:56) It doesn't open all at one time. It starts to open slowly. Then you're like, I think I turn on the radio, I think there'll be a good song. It just comes in your mind, I think I turn on the radio now. Turn on the radio. Neil Young comes. [Говорящий 2] (23:59 - 24:00) Just like that. [Говорящий 1] (24:00 - 24:26) Immediately. Like that. Then the heart chakra starts to open. You start to have little things. You can see future two minutes ahead or five minutes ahead. Then it starts to get bigger and bigger. 500 years ahead. So that's Buddha's mind. Starting to open. [Говорящий 2] (24:27 - 24:29) Like a flower. [Говорящий 1] (24:30 - 25:01) Where that mind goes, the body also goes there. So is it possible for your teacher to come to you when you ask them in your mind? Yeah, because they are your own teacher, your heart teacher, whoever it is. For you it's a Buddha. Then if you ask them in your mind, they will come. [Говорящий 2] (25:02 - 25:04) The body will come. [Говорящий 1] (25:04 - 27:04) Because they hear you. And when they hear you, the body is already arrived there. Like a lake, lake of water. Then when the moon comes, the moon will come into the water. The reflection will come in the water. The moon doesn't have to buy an airplane ticket. If the mind is ready, then moon will come there. Like the lake. That's an example that he gives. Then there's a story. Two more stories. One is the story of Master Asanga. One is the story of Master Chandrakirti. They lived about... Asanga lived 1,700 years ago. Chandrakirti lived 15 centuries ago. Then Pabongka Rinpoche's... People ask Pabongka Rinpoche, why can't I see my teacher? If teacher is there, why can't I see him? Then he said, you have a bad karma seed. You have some block in your eyes, have obstacle. Then he told the two stories to example. But he didn't tell the whole story. He just said it's like Master Chandrakirti and it's like Master Asanga. So, how many Buddhas can fit here? How many? Countless. [Говорящий 2] (27:06 - 27:07) Limitless. [Говорящий 1] (27:07 - 27:22) Why? Because their mind can see this. And their body follows wherever their mind goes. And they can also see your thoughts. [Говорящий 2] (27:25 - 27:31) So, if you want your teacher to come, just close your eyes. [Говорящий 1] (27:32 - 28:02) Ask them to come. They are there. They knew two years ago you were going to ask. So, they are never late. Not like us. But we have some... Why can't we see them? We have some obstacle. So, we have about 15 minutes more today. [Говорящий 2] (28:03 - 28:04) This morning. [Говорящий 1] (28:06 - 28:34) Yeah. Then I thought I can tell you this story. About Master Asanga. Then in the afternoon we can talk about Master Chandrakirti. So, Master Asanga, he was a monk. He's very famous. Half of the Geshe course comes from him and his brother Vasubandhu. [Говорящий 2] (28:35 - 28:36) Half brother. [Говорящий 1] (28:41 - 28:45) Then one day Master Asanga said, I want to see Kwan Yin. Kwan Yin. [Говорящий 2] (28:45 - 28:51) I want to see Kwan Yin. Avalokiteshvara. [Говорящий 1] (28:51 - 29:36) Tibetans call Chenrezig. The Buddha of Love. I want to see this Buddha. So, he went to a cave and he started to meditate. He said, Okay, Kwan Yin, come to me. Come to me. Then he said in the cave, Please Kwan Yin, come to me. Then he said the Kwan Yin mantra, OM MANI PADME HUM, OM MANI PADME HUM. Then nothing happened. For 12 years. He stayed in the cave. OM MANI PADME HUM. Nothing happened. [Говорящий 2] (29:36 - 29:37) No Kwan Yin. [Говорящий 1] (29:38 - 30:00) Then finally he got angry. Kwan Yin won't come. I quit. Then he left the cave. He said, I'm going to go to town and have a good Starbucks coffee. Not really Starbucks, okay. [Говорящий 2] (30:02 - 30:14) But he said, I'm going to go to town and have a good dinner and forget all this Avalokiteshvara. So, he started to walk to town. [Говорящий 1] (30:15 - 30:28) Then, on the road he saw a dog. The dog was injured. It got hit by a wagon wheel. [Говорящий 2] (30:31 - 30:37) The wheel cut the dog's stomach like that. [Говорящий 1] (30:37 - 30:40) Somebody told me they saw one yesterday like that in the car. [Говорящий 2] (30:40 - 30:41) He got hit by a car. [Говорящий 1] (30:44 - 31:17) All the guts are coming out. Then a sangha is like, oh, this dog, I have to help this dog. Then he thought, I should push the guts back into the dog's body. So, he didn't feel disgusting. He thought, oh, I can do it. Then he started to push the guts back in. [Говорящий 2] (31:19 - 31:25) Then he saw something's moving there. Then he looked down closely. [Говорящий 1] (31:27 - 31:52) There's a maggot worm flying from the flies. They are little maggots are sitting there. Then he thought, if I push the guts back in, I will hurt them. So, actually he's beginning to have love, but he doesn't know he's having love. [Говорящий 2] (31:53 - 31:58) Then he said, I will take them out. [Говорящий 1] (32:00 - 32:24) All the maggots, one by one, I will take them out. Then he tried to take one out. Then he thought, oh, this is squishing them. They also feel uncomfortable. My fingers are hurting them. My fingers are very dry. [Говорящий 2] (32:27 - 32:37) It's not comfortable for them. Then he thought, I need something wet and soft. [Говорящий 1] (32:40 - 32:47) Okay, I can do it. I will lift them out with my tongue. [Говорящий 2] (32:49 - 32:54) I will move them with my tongue. [Говорящий 1] (32:54 - 33:21) Then he tried, but he doesn't like it. Then he go like that. And then hit the ground. His tongue hit the ground. Then he looked up. Avalokiteshvara appeared. He's like, wow. Wow. The dog was Kuan Yin. Then he got upset. [Говорящий 2] (33:24 - 33:25) Twelve years. [Говорящий 1] (33:26 - 33:27) Om mani padme om mani padme. [Говорящий 2] (33:28 - 33:33) And you didn't come. Now you come. [Говорящий 1] (33:33 - 33:38) Why? Why did you wait so long? Avalokiteshvara said, you didn't have love. [Говорящий 2] (33:40 - 33:42) You didn't have enough love. [Говорящий 1] (33:42 - 33:44) Now today you've got love. [Говорящий 2] (33:46 - 33:47) Now you can see me. [Говорящий 1] (33:48 - 33:51) Then he said, why didn't you come to the cave? [Говорящий 2] (33:52 - 33:58) I was there. First day. First om mani padme om. I came. [Говорящий 1] (34:00 - 35:12) I was waiting next to you. Then you have a bad habit Asanga. Why? When you say many mantras you go, when you do many mantras you spit. Then you spit on me many times. Why you can't see me? You don't have enough love. You had a karma block in your eyes. So then that's why you can't see me. I'm there. When you ask me to come, I'm there. Then Asanga said, I'm so happy. Everybody should see Kwan Yin. Then he said, I will put you on my shoulders. Come on, you get on my shoulders. Then Kwan Yin is like, okay, okay. Then Asanga goes to the town. I got Avalokiteshvara. Kwan Yin is on my back. Look at him. Most people didn't see anything. [Говорящий 2] (35:14 - 35:21) Who's that guy? Asanga. What happened to him? He did too many mantras. [Говорящий 1] (35:22 - 36:31) He go crazy. He's dancing like this. Then one person said, look, why he has a dog on his shoulders? Okay, even to see the dog, most people don't have enough karma. Then the story of Avalokiteshvara, sorry, Chandrakirti, Master Chandrakirti. It's a very similar story. He also asked Chandrakirti to, Chandrakirti saw Avalokiteshvara. And asked him to ride on his shoulders. Nobody could see anything. One person saw Kwan Yin's foot. Then they got almost enlightened just by seeing the foot, one foot. So that's the story of those two guys. It means you ask your teacher to come. [Говорящий 2] (36:31 - 36:32) They will come. [Говорящий 1] (36:33 - 36:57) It's logical. It should be. And there's many stories that show that. My own experience, I ask my teacher to come sit next to me. I can't see them. But sometimes I can feel them. I can feel they are sitting next to me. [Говорящий 2] (36:58 - 37:00) It helps me a lot. [Говорящий 1] (37:01 - 37:05) It makes my day very happy. [Говорящий 2] (37:06 - 37:14) If I have a problem, if I feel sad, just close the eyes, ask them to come. [Говорящий 1] (37:14 - 37:19) Then they come. And I can feel them. And I feel happy. [Говорящий 2] (37:20 - 37:25) And I get some love from them. [Говорящий 1] (37:25 - 37:32) So you can try that. Especially when you are sad. You are having some problem. [Говорящий 2] (37:33 - 37:36) Ask teacher to come. [Говорящий 1] (37:36 - 38:48) They will come. Then we'll stop and to do mandala. At the end of the class, at the beginning of the class, we always offer mandala. I remember my first class. Then if you don't know, ask someone who can teach you. We will explain this thing this week. But this is to represent the whole world. And we are giving the world this become perfect place. All of the nursing homes, there are lines of people outside waiting to meet the old lady and the old man. No more lonely people. No more poor people. No more war. [Говорящий 2] (38:49 - 38:53) We are offering this world. [Говорящий 1] (38:54 - 38:55) That's the price of the class. [Говорящий 2] (38:58 - 39:01) Teacher doesn't need your money. [Говорящий 1] (39:02 - 39:07) Teacher wants you to teach to make a good world. [Говорящий 2] (39:10 - 39:22) So in the beginning you offer this world. I will make a perfect world. I will help you make a perfect world. [Говорящий 1] (39:23 - 40:23) Even if I have to wash dishes. Okay, here we go. And at the end of the class, this is the thank you. Thank you.
