Learn Chöpa, which means to set, to check in on what your motivation is before you do something. And in this context, Pabongka Rinpoche has asked his audience to check in on their motivation before they take the teaching. And I don't know about you, I mean when someone starts talking about, is your motivation right, then immediately I get this guilt thing coming up, like I'm not a good person, I just came here because Brian came here, you know, I'm not, I don't know, I just thought it would be fun.

I didn't have any big plans for the teaching, and then you start feeling like you're not a good person because you didn't have a good enough motivation when you came. You know, like, I'm not here because I'm dying to get enlightened and save the world. I just heard that there was a good cafe nearby, and then, you know, tried to get out of work the other day.

But what he's suggesting, and what I'd like you to try during the week, is something different. It's that if you follow a logical process, if you just ask yourself why you're here, and why you're about to do anything, like you're about to go to work, you're brushing your teeth, you're throwing on your shirt, and he wants you to ask yourself, why am I doing this, you know, why am I about to go to work, or why am I about to eat lunch, you know, what do I want out of this particular activity that I'm about to embark on, right?

And then he says, I think what you'll find, if you examine yourself, is that it's not a question that you're a bad person, and your motivation isn't, like, holy enough to have lunch or something. It's not that. What he's suggesting is, look at your heart, look at what you want out of what you're about to do, and follow the consequences naturally, okay?

Just in your mind, let your mind go off on a natural flow of the consequences of what's going to happen from this activity. And then you don't have to worry about good old children. You don't have to do some artificial...

In fact, there is something that needs a different form of growth. Don't, like, beat yourself up and say, oh, I shouldn't have come here with a hangover. Like, not like that.

If you just follow your own automatic thoughts, you say, why am I here? And I say, well, I, you know, I kind of thought it would be nice to go. And then, well, why nice to go?

Well, you know, I thought it would make me happy that I'd work next to you. Well, what about your work? How's your work?

It's okay. You know, everybody has to have some money. And it's okay.

Everyone's okay. Well, what's it going to lead to? Well, you know, I might rise in the company, I might not.

If I keep taking all these vacations off for garbage events, I probably won't. But I'll be okay. It'll be okay.

I'm happy. And then, do you realize there will be a last day that you will? And you say, well, yeah, I know.

But it's still a ways away. You know, they keep raising the subsecurity. I'll probably be 100 by the time I get there.

And then you're like, well, what are you going to do after that? And you say, well, I don't know. I'll probably just move to, I don't know, Flagstaff or something.

You know, do the best I can. Pop my country. Well, then, when the body runs out, what will you do after that?

And then you say, well, you know, I'll die, but it probably won't be so bad. And I did go to two dental classes. Probably I get some credit for that.

You know what I mean? And then the mongo says, well, you know, you really have to have an intense amount of seeds to even come back to a human body. And then you're like, well, is there any way I could just sort of get the seeds and not work so hard?

And, you know, I'd have to be a Mother Teresa. I'd just kind of live what I'm living now. And is there some kind of easier source of protection for after I leave this world?

And then, so what he's asking you is, when you sit down and before you do something, it's not that you sit down and try to be holy. It's not that you sit down and you close your eyes and you say, you know, I'm coming to this class to save every living being. Not necessarily, and it's probably too artificial a thought.

Just sit down and let your mind go logically through what's going to happen to you. Why are you here? What's going to happen to you if you keep working?

What will happen to you when your work stops? What will happen to you when your life stops? Where will you go after that?

What will determine where you go? And can you, can anybody help you? And all of that runs through your mind before you get in the car and go to work.

You see? And that's, that's kundalajyoka. And then, naturally, you won't do meaningless things.

It doesn't mean you can't work. Work can be meaningless and work can be meaningful. You make it, in a way.

Work can lead you to a time to realize and work can bore you to death. And that's not the work's problem. That's your problem.

So, it's not a question of what you do. It's a question of what you're thinking while you do it. Okay?

And that's kundalajyoka. So, what is, what is trying to teach us in this course that we're going through for these 10 days is to run through the future ramifications of getting in your car and going to work before you get in your car and go to work. Okay?

And the long term, all the way to your death and beyond, what, how can going to work help me a bit, right? And help the ones I love. And to help the people around me.

That's kundalajyoka, not just before teaching, but before you get into your car or before you eat a meal. He's trying to get us to a point where we can have an automatic review of our, of why we're doing what we're doing, oftentimes before we undertake anything in life, even if it's just a move. Okay?

That's what, that's what I would like to accomplish this week. I would like to get to the point where, when any of us sits down to do something, we run through the long term ramifications in our mind, with no judgment, right? It's not like, oh, you should be more holy, or you should be more concerned about others.

Don't, don't think of it, don't start at the end. Just plug it in. You see?

What am I doing? I'm eating, I'm eating a cookie at the Paradise Planet. Why?

Because I want to. Well, does it have any possible consequences or impact on the day you die? And you say, no, except the wedding, you die faster.

You know? And then you, so I think, you see, you'll start, I don't know how to say it, you'll start refining your activities. You will start refining what you do.

Because everything will be judged against how will this affect me and others in terms of death and beyond. And then it's not that you can't enjoy a cookie at Paradise Planet. But maybe you will enjoy it in a different way.

In a deeper way. Okay? Like that.

Okay, that's the whole joke. Yeah, I thought yesterday, I forgot to, there's a little bit of Sanskrit I didn't cover with you. In the fake Sanskrit title.

And I thought we need to do that. Okay. So just for completeness of the record, I'd like to read it.

Okay.

[Говорящий 2] (9:22 - 9:22)
Okay.

[Говорящий 1] (9:22 - 26:37)
400 years or something. So it's an old one. He says, Which is supposed to be a translation of My teacher, The king of all the moonies, or the buddhas.

We said yesterday, The lady from Virginia is sitting next to you in the cafe. Okay? It's the Buddha who takes on an unusual appearance to teach tantra.

What is that? Please may fall upon all of us, people here, a great rain of a billion blessings. So the, It's a different translation of Okay?

Su means good. And di means to think. Like, you know the mantra for meditation, right?

Su di means good thinking. Okay? Meaning, Vajradhara is Vajradhara.

Uttara, You might look it up or something. Ut means up. Right?

Uttara means most high. He's using it as a translation of Nama. Okay?

Because Nama means high. A high being. So he translates it as high.

Muni means, Muni, The able ones. Or the quiet ones. And then Aksha means one.

Rayasata means, Please, Please, Grant us. Genji. Please grant us.

Shubham means goodness. Kota means a billion. Between Kota and Shubham there's Balarunga, which I have no idea what it is.

But it must be great rain. And it must be misspelled or something. Okay.

So now we can start on today's topic. So we actually reached the record of the first day of teaching. Okay?

Here it goes. Here's what happened on the first day that Pabongkha Rinpoche taught. So today we're actually starting on the record of what Pabongkha Rinpoche said.

On the first day, The matchless king of the Dharma, who is? Dhammakapa. Dhammakapa.

From his holy lips. The warm-up to the teaching. Before you give a teaching, you should do something else first.

What do you want? Check your motivation. Check your motivation.

Why am I here? Why did I come to this Mesa in the first place? And why did I come here?

Hopefully you've thought about it. Let's think about it. You ready?

Think about it. Treat it. Why are we here?

Why did we come here? What do you want? You came.

That's all. Let your meditations be short. Checking.

Why are we here? Nesamte. The lama started from checking in on why are we here.

Nesamte. Nidakasamte. And here's why we're sad.

So now starts 800 pages of practice. And the first thing Pabongkha Rinpoche says is, Olaso. Say Olaso.

Olaso. Which means, well then. It's funny.

It's like the greatest book of the way. Well then. In a monastery, Olaso has a different meaning.

It's what the debate master says. You're supposed to debate somebody, let's say for your dictionary. You have to debate in front of a thousand monks.

That's 1500 monks. And then you stand up and the other guy stands up and you go at it. And then at some point the debate master, he drops his shawl.

He drops his shawl and he goes, Olaso. And then you can stop. And you're supposed to sit down.

Sometimes he has to Olaso you like six times. It's like trying to separate two boxes. Sometimes like with me, I've been waiting for him to say Olaso.

And I just drop down on my seat right away. So that's Olaso. So in a debate, it means, okay.

Enough. We've seen enough to know how you are. So the worst guys get Olaso very quick.

It's very significant that at the very beginning of 800 pages, the very first thing he says after a while then is he quotes who? Who would he quote? Jackson Connery.

More than even the Buddha. Even more important than the Buddha. He quotes Jackson Connery.

A local in the jail chooses to start his 24 days of teaching. We're talking eight to 12 hours a day. Not like us.

And he chooses to start it with the greatest of all lines. Whoever in India works with that. I do.

Jackson Connery. And then he's going to quote a thing called Yangboor. Sing Yangboor.

Yangboor means spiritual songs. Like Milarepa's 100,000 Songs is called Yangboor. Yangboor means personal experience.

Yangboor means a song of my own spiritual life. And it's a very, very beautiful piece by Jackson Connery in which he summarizes the whole Lamrim, the steps in Lamrim. So it's very important that a local in the jail chooses to start his teaching from the Yangboor of Jackson Connery.

He chooses to start from the song of Jackson Connery's own realizations of the Lamrim. That's a beautiful place to start. Very famous.

We have to memorize it. It's one of the first things you have to memorize in Lamrim. Dharmi Tenri means this body and mind, which I have, the chance that I have now, with this body and mind.

Nishidolaha is better than a chintamani, better than a wish-giving jewel. So in Tibet, there was a belief in India, there was a jewel, like in a man's mouth. And if you found that jewel, and if you did the right things with that jewel, it would give you anything you want.

Then he says, the body which you and I have, and the chance that we have now, all the circumstances surrounding us, the wealth of this country, the peace that is going on, at least in this country at present. The fact that you don't have cancer or AIDS, the fact that you are still healthy, the fact that you are intelligent and you've had a good education. The number of people in the world who've had a decent education in history, you are like in 1,000th of 1%.

You were brought up with everything. You have everything. And you have, Buddhism has come to your country.

And it's respected by the whole country. And at least, like, this holiness is respected. And you know, like, there's weird karma going on that people of every religion expect to die on.

And that has come to you, knowing that you should do it or not. That's better than a wish-giving gem. It's just kind of weird to say, why?

Why? You get anything you want. You just look at the gem and say, I want a Mercedes.

Or I want a Jaguar. Or I want, you know, hot chocolates all the time until I die. Or I don't want a guy either.

I mean, you can just tell Joe what you want, right? But he says, your body and mind are more valuable than that gem. Why?

How could it be? Joe can only give you what you can think of. OK?

Joe can only give you what you can imagine to have. And your body and your mind will give you things that you cannot imagine. Like, right now, you cannot imagine.

Your present circumstances will lead to a future that you cannot even imagine. You couldn't frame the question to the jewel of what's going to be happening to you. Like, you have a very cool future.

You have a very strange and beautiful future. And it's not one that you can even imagine right now. What's going to happen in your lifetime in this planet?

You couldn't ask. You can't imagine what's going to happen. Better.

But what's happening to you now is better than finding one of those things, OK? All right, let's talk. This is the only chance you'll ever have.

This is your one and only chance. To find these circumstances is unique. It will not happen in your life.

It cannot happen in your life. Let me tell you something new. Nyegatitla.

Difficult. I like that. It's a very famous song.

Nyegatitla. Say it. Nyegatitla.

Nyegatitla. Hard to find. Easily lost.

Nyegatitla. OK? Hard to find.

Easily lost. Nam ke lo. I'm done.

Strikes like lightning. And disappears. Like a flash of light.

Comes and goes in an instant. Why? It's life.

It's a chance you have. In a country at peace. With Buddhist teachers running around.

Like from time to time. You know? You live in New York.

You don't have to go. And then you have life. You have education.

You have enough food. You have a place to meditate. You've got everything.

Nam ke lo turned up. But it's like lightning. It's going to come and go like lightning.

If people say, I don't know, I'll be here tomorrow. When it goes, it goes fast. You get old, and then suddenly it's like you're backwards, and you can't meditate anymore.

Period. It's not a question of how long you can meditate today. It's like you can't do it anymore.

You just can't do it anymore. At all. It'll go.

It's like lightning. OK? Nam ke lo turned up.

So in this sangha, Jigme Thakur, Namo Thakur Thakur Rinpoche, So in this sangha, think about it. Think about it. What a great chance you have, and how fast you can step away.

Jigme Thakur, Namo Thakur Thakur Rinpoche, Thakur Rinpoche, realize that all your worldly activities are like a tap that blows away in the wind. What's that song? Kansas.

That's in the wind. That's in the wind. It's like that.

That's in the wind. Really, it's like that's in the wind. It's just all the things you're worried about right now, they don't matter now.

That's just like that's so helpful during the day. All the big issues in your life right now. I sometimes, I try to remember who was the person I hated the most like three years ago.

And I can't remember their name. You know? And I'm like, hey.

You know? And it's not so important. You know?

It's just tap. It's just like tap. Or it's like that's in the wind.

You don't know it. You don't have it. All the things you think are important are not very important.

But not to be so worried about them. Like relax a little bit. At least while you're suffering, relax a little bit.

Okay? Okay? No point to worry.

You gotta suffer, okay? But to worry about it is self-inflicted. So chill a little bit.

If Buddha taught us to chill a little bit, understand that what makes a thing worldly is one of my pet peeves. Is it worldly to go to work? Is it religious to build a monastery?

Can you be worldly in a monastery and be religious at work? You see what I mean? You know that.

It's not hourly what you do. It's what you bring on the inside. You make things worldly or you're not.

A family life with children and a dog, these are not worldly until you make them worldly. They are divine. And being a monk in a monastery and memorizing books can be very worldly.

And there can be huge competitiveness and all around business. So don't think of worldly meaning family life or something. It's not connected at all actually.

There are equal number of worldly people in a monastery than outside. Okay? You must strive day and night to make something of your life.

Make something meaningful of your life. Work day and night to make something meaningful. Make your life meaningful.

Make your life something meaningful. Do what I'm doing. Here comes the cool part.

I, the yogi, act... This is what I, the yogi, did. And those of you who have opportunity of freedom to do the same.

And that refrain comes after every verse in that book. It says, that's what I did. He refers to himself as a yogi.

That's what I, the yogi, have done with my life. And you should try to do the same. And that's the refrain that's repeated throughout the whole book.

His spiritual life. The songs of his spiritual life. It's like, that's what I did.

And you should try to do that as well. If you ponder. We don't get you to ponder, right?

So there's this thing. Ponder means what? Hope to achieve freedom.

It has a desire for freedom. Ponder. If you want to be free, then follow my advice.

Realize what a beautiful opportunity you have right now. And he's going to ram on the people who say life is hard, or, you know, these are bad times, be well, or like that. He's like, come on.

You've got everything you need. You're standing on the edge of hope and light. Your planet is on the edge of hope and light.

Really. We travel constantly. We see.

We're in different countries every week. And strange countries. And it's amazing.

There's an amazing thing going on. The world is on the verge of the end. And hundreds and thousands, hundreds of thousands of people, one family, all of them are everywhere.

They're all like, they all have the same reaction. We do retreat for three days. By the second evening, they are hugging each other.

By the third evening, they are crying. In every country, the same reaction. Whether it's Guam, Oman, or Hanoi.

It's weird. It's really weird. You are in a beautiful blue planet.

It's like unique. And it's about to become an environment for pandas. And you should be a little happy.

Yeah, it's really good. Thank you.

[Говорящий 2] (26:39 - 26:44)
Sorry. Okay.

[Говорящий 1] (26:48 - 1:01:58)
We've got a competition. Okay. Do you want to talk?

Okay. What did I say about wanting to talk last time? Do you want to talk?

Wanting to talk? Huh? Yeah, all last time.

Yeah. He's being what? He's being...

Yeah, he's being like... How do you say it? He's already enlightened.

He's like, oh, dudes like you and me. He's like, join us. Join him in the dust.

He's like, oh, just normal schmucks like you and me. It's very, very significant work. And he is one of the only people that isn't.

Meaning, you and me. People like you and me. He throws himself into the conversation.

It's a brand new topic. For a lifetime to no beginning. And I'm not going to take the time to prove that you have a previous life.

But come on. Just be logical. I mean, it didn't come from nothing.

There's no such thing as a good thing. Nothing comes from nothing. Nothing ever could.

It doesn't work like that. Things come from similar causes. Your mind streams flow from a previous mind stream.

You can't create a mind from chemicals. It doesn't work like that. Life is inevitable.

Your mind can go home right now to Pudina in Vermont, Arizona and see the rhubarb pie waiting for you there. I hope it doesn't get old. The mind is different.

The mind is doing different stuff. You've always had a mind. Your mind has gone on forever.

And you should take joy in it. I don't think you have to think it's weird or something. You don't have to think, I've been around forever and I'm such a squawk.

I don't think you have to think like that. You've been around forever and now you've got it right. It's like having a divorce three times.

Or countless times. And now you're going to do it. Now you're going to get it right.

Here in the cycle of life, you will give up countless times. You can't afford to experience your not-having. I like to say you've been missing back a countless times.

Or almost once in a year, if you're a girl. You've been everything countless times. You've done everything.

You've done it just countless times. And it broke countless times. And you've done everything.

There's nothing you haven't done. And there's no pleasure you haven't experienced and there's no suffering you haven't experienced. You've done everything.

Your children and mother countless times. Your job six million people in conservation camps countless times. Everybody has.

You've done everything. Countless times. There's no pleasure you haven't encountered.

There's no pain you haven't suffered or inflicted countless times. Don't think you're so much better than all the others. What do you call those big-headed guys?

What do you say? What do you say? Have we never up until the present lifetime?

We didn't really ever take advantage of the chances we had. We didn't ever really take advantage of the opportunities that we had. We had a human body countless times.

We were well fed. We lived in a country at peace. We were allowed to sit and have a class.

I just got a class cancelled in a country which I cannot name because it might get on the internet because you're not allowed to have a class. And that's the way it is. But you're not in a place like that.

You can have a class. No one's going to march in here and arrest everyone. These are good times.

You have a good opportunity. Now make something of it for once. Don't waste it.

Try to live something out of your life. Try to take advantage of the chance you have. I don't say you have to go to Calcutta and visit the slums and take care of them.

It's not that. It's much more difficult to be happy than to go to the slums of Calcutta and take care of them. It's a much more difficult and a higher task to make one person happy which is yourself.

It's very difficult. It is the goal of a lifetime. It is the goal of a village.

If you can make yourself happy, truly happy person, the rest of you can take care of yourself. You can save other people's lives. But you can't make even yourself happy.

What are you going to do for the people of Calcutta? The great goal of this life is to become happy. Find happiness.

And we never have. We count this life as a young life. He is saying now we have a chance.

We would not because of God. There is some kind of training or understanding we can achieve which can make us truly happy. Then we can survive.

Then we can have fun. He and I, you and me, we don't think about it much. He says where did you hear that before?

It's in the study of emptiness. If you don't check if you don't think about it too carefully that's a common phrase in the study of emptiness. He stole it out of there and stuck it in the bottom of the monument.

We tend not to even think about how lucky we are. What an opportunity we have. Glad to be here.

Okay, you're in the movement but you made it into the top 8 flyers in the world. Could you be a little happier? They have this thing they say glad to be here.

Buddhist people don't do that. Be happy. You and me.

It's a miracle. Do you have like a million people in this country? And you're listening to this thing.

And the other people don't honestly care about it. They really want to go you know I heard it on the radio because I just wanted to see what it sounded like because someone told me that and it was like fish tacos and disgusting things and it was this long thing about fish tacos and that's the focus and concern of the great majority of people and you made it past fish tacos to be here and you're so lucky and something miraculous is happening here and be a little happy about it. Okay. He said you know most of us don't think that it's very we don't think about how lucky we are that we got this kind of body and this kind of mind.

You have a functioning not like my car you have a functioning body and mind and and you can make miracles happen if you use it right. You know. If you play your cards right with this body and mind you can turn this world into a enlightened country.

Okay. In this life. In your life.

It's very close. It's very close to happening. It's very close.

It's very exciting. If you travel with us you would be really turned on. Because it's happening.

Everywhere. Like there's no place in the world where people aren't already halfway there. Now we've been through it.

I got the chair mission. I got the chair mission. We find a ten dollar bill on the asphalt in a parking lot and we feel like we got something big.

You know. And we don't appreciate the body and mind that we're walking around with. Like you go home and you tell your wife you know honey you don't have to do this or what.

I found a ten dollar bill in a parking lot you know. And she's like yeah you also have a body and mind that you didn't even write on. And we feel like excited about that.

And your wife I mean. And we don't have any qualms. Like you go to your you go home and you say you know I sent my clothes to the cleaner and I had a twenty dollar bill in there.

And they clean the clothes and they're like I lost a twenty dollar bill. And you feel down. And you feel like you really messed up.

Like that right. You feel like you lost something pretty serious. And then your wife is like but you waste your days like water like nothing you know.

You waste day after day doing nothing. You watch television you read novels you know. Here's your precious priceless body and mind.

Like which is gonna come and go like lightly. And you were watching some you know daytime TV show or whatever you know. For me it's a twenty dollar.

You're wasting life moments. I mean I know they're irreplaceable. You can't get them.

She's like are you crazy? You know. Every moment is so precious and exciting isn't it?

You're just splurging it on nothing. You know. Okay.

We feel more upset if we lose twenty dollars than if we lose two or three days of our life doing nothing. I have this burning desire to buy lifetime from people who make it. You know.

Like reading USA Today and seeing what the governor of Arkansas said to me. They're not even from Arkansas. You know.

And I'm like could I buy today from you? You know. I'll give you 300 bucks.

Giving is the name of your life. You know. That you're wasting on USA Today to see what the governor of Arkansas said.

You know. I wish it was possible. You know.

Look. It's not true that your body and mind that you've got right now and the circumstances in which you are blessed are more precious than a rich individual. It's not true.

He says your body and mind are more precious than a hundred thousand rich individuals. You know. Okay.

He says that. If you happen to find a rich individual which is always done in the dirtiest, lowest places. You find a jewel in the dirt.

You have to do something with it. There's a process. You have to do certain things with a rich individual or it doesn't work.

Okay. There's a three-step process. I'm just telling you in case you find one in the parking lot.

Okay. There's a it doesn't get activated unless you do three things with it. Okay.

So I'm just telling you so you know. And I looked it up and nobody explained it except for Dick. Dick I heard you say was probably genetically explosive.

And he lived in Gothenburg next to Germany. I used to stay at Germany to explore the winter days. And then I would go next door to see David because he had a stroke.

He was a brilliant, brilliant scholar and a brilliant poet. He taught in Timbuktu. He taught as a student.

That's why he's so famous. So I used to go there to visit him because he couldn't speak. And then I one day I had this idea.

I'm like I'm going to bring you a machine from America. You can type what you want to say. I'll teach you how to write you can go back to being a poet.

Because he was just in a chair like this. And then I I got a laptop. And I brought it to him and I put it on his lap.

I took his hand and I said look you can you can write. Because he could only type because he couldn't write. And then he made some words you know.

And then he goes ah laughter laughter laughter laughter laughter And he never spoke again. He passed away. I think you're just in a dream.

Seriously, I'm not kidding. That's a true story. I don't need it.

Anyway, he says you have to wash the door three times. In different things. In different kinds of liquids.

And then you have to wipe it with three different kinds of cloth. And that's called the chu-tsu, which is mentioned in the text. Maho Rinpoche, chu-tsu means...

First of all, he says, len-sei-chu. Len-sei-chu means ocean water, salt water. Take some salt water and wash the jewel.

Chai-re-wa-chi. Take a cloth made of horsehair, cloth and... what do you call it?

Wipe it. Wipe it, yeah. And then, second thing, ya-ku-la-ba-ru.

Ya-ku means fish juice. Ba-ru means to soak. Like, when you take a saffron and you want to make the...

you're having a fish-ation the next day, and you want saffron water, you have to ba-ru the saffron. You throw it in the water and like, you pour it, it bounces. And then the next day it's all bright orange, the water.

That's called ba-ru-tsu. Ba-ru the jewel in a... fish gut soup, or whatever.

Fish juice. Nan-ba-sa-mu-chu. Then take soft cotton cloth and buff it again.

Simba, mu-chu-la-ba-ru. What's mu-chu? Soak.

Bond it in quicksilk. Soak it in quicksilk overnight. And then rub the red saffron tea, and then wipe it with a gray, like a velvet, and wipe it with silk.

And then you do make these special prayers, and then the thing works. That's how you activate a wishing zone. It's like a credit card.

You have to call the company and activate it. People don't know that, and they don't know what it means. Okay.

Chi-ne-sen-gi-go-ne. Da-pa-che-ne. Chi-ne.

Yang-sen-gi-se. Chen-ne. Yang-sen-gi-se means put it on the top of...

What do you call that ball at the top of a platform? You probably call it a ball at the top of a platform. Set it on the top of a victory banner, a platform ball.

Chen-ne. Make offerings to it. Se-ge-song-sen-gi-de-hi-den-me-ju-ki.

And then you will get this life means whatever you want. Food, clothing, anything else you want, you just ask it, and it will come, like in the Latter-day Saints. De-ta-gu-no-ru-ru-che-ga-to-chi-bu-ye-kyang.

Even if you find a hundred of those jewels, or a thousand, or ten thousand, or a hundred thousand, ye-kyang, de-ta-gu-no-ru-ru-che-ga-to-chi-bu-ye-kyang. That jewel doesn't have the power to give you the least of all the spiritual goals. It doesn't have the power to give you the least of all the spiritual goals.

And then if you find the least of all the spiritual goals, keep your rear end out of the hell realms. It has to be done. That's minimal.

If nothing else, if all your meditation, and all your charity, and all your kindnesses, and all your religious practice doesn't do anything else, it should at least keep you out of the hell realms after that. I mean, that's minimal. There's nothing less than that.

That's the worst you can do. If that's minimal. But, the body and mind which you are blessed with currently do have the power to keep you out of the hell realms and everything beyond that.

Everything higher also. It's good. Your body and mind are already more precious than a million Aladdin's nuts.

TENSHIN KURTSAMA DANGYAKUTRA SOHPE TENSHIN KURDARAM DIVYUPAKNYAM TATTAV There are these beings called Brahma, or Chakra, Indra. You can think of them as generic beings. You could have called them Thor, or you could have called them Omin, or you could have called them God.

These are extraordinarily powerful beings. There do exist beings who can move planets. There do exist beings whose body encompasses multiple galaxies at the same time, and who can move galaxies like marbles.

There are such beings. And you have been a being like that countless times. You have been a being like that.

Fooling around with galaxies like marbles. You have done that. And you can get that with this body.

If you want that, you can get that. If you practice correctly in this life, you can become a galaxy marble player later. If you want it, you can do it with this body.

You can do it with this body. Or, you can also use this body to reach the paradises called what is Abhirati, what is Sukhavati, and what is Tushita. These are Buddhist and mind paradises.

If you want, you have a body and mind with which you can reach those paradises. This body and mind are a ticket to those paradises. So if you knew how to do it correctly, you could run the world.

People are struggling to get a job as a supervisor at the motor vehicle agency. They are fighting with their friends to get the job as a supervisor at the motor vehicle department. If you knew how to use karma correctly, you could easily become Warren Buffet, or Bill Gates, or Obama, or whatever you want.

That's nothing. You could become a being who plays with galaxies as if they were, what do you call it, Christmas toys? Like that.

You can reach those things. You can do it. If someone trains you properly, you can amass unbelievable wealth and power in this world.

You can do it. If you have the right training. With the training you've already received, you could be doing that.

But then he says, what's higher than that is nirvana and buddhahood. I just gave a course in, what do you call it, Paradise Island in the Bahamas. We went there a long time ago.

I've been going back there for 10 years. Every year. And so I gave a course called Nirvana.

And then we had to clear up all of these misconceptions about what's nirvana. Because they thought it was the guy who died at the top there. And I was like, no, there's another one.

And we talked about it. Nirvana is the ending of your life and your emotions. No more jealousy, no more anger.

Impossible for an irritating person to accept it. I mean, that's worth it. Alone.

Like the most irritating person in life. If you had achieved nirvana, you could no longer accept it. That's worth all the effort it would take to get there, I think.

Like traffic would no longer, it wouldn't be possible to feel upset. Ever. That's nirvana.

Then buddhahood is something different. Buddhahood is where you're standing over countless planets, looking down upon them, and taking care of every living creature there, from amoebas up to elephants. And you have the pleasure and the capacity to care for billions and billions of beings on billions of planets at the same time.

And there's nothing more fun. It's good to be Spider-Man. We're talking Spider-Man on every single planet all the time, for everybody.

And you can do that with this body. And that would be fun. I don't think you have to think of buddhism as becoming a buddhist, I'm serious.

It'd just be an amazing fun to be Spider-Man. But imagine being Spider-Man everywhere at the same time. But then, I, for one, I haven't really transformed that.

Have you? No? Well, then you want to go.

Spider-Man's okay, but I like that you're a nerdy guy and a transformer. Because, first of all, I was sort of a nerd growing up. And he gets the high school girlfriend, and he gets a camera.

I think, that's like, I'm living long. Oh yeah, he also saved the world. So, you know, you get to educate.

And things like that, that's what's going to happen. Things like that. You get everything.

You can get everything. And it's fun to save the world. With this body in mind, you could be the guy in Transformers.

You will be. If you just use them properly, you will be. And it's very gratifying to save the world.

It's fun. We just do a little version of it. We go around and give courses all the time.

And it's so fulfilling to help people. It's a great thing. But for the fact that we haven't given it a try, we could be doing that now.

He says, but for the fact that we haven't really made any big efforts, we could already be the guy in Transformers. And his name is not even pronounceable. What is his name?

See? What's his name? Shia LaBeouf.

If a guy named Shia LaBeouf can make it, then you can do it. It just means you have the time right now. And it's not really like you're asking me.

Okay. Here we go. Sounds good.

In general, if you ask somebody, how long does it take to become Buddha? After you get Bodhichitta. It is almost impossible to start, right?

After you get Bodhichitta, after you get true love for the entire universe, How long does it take to be comfortable in life? And it's kalp chen chonmei sumi. Kalp chen means, it means a eon, a greater eon.

It's millions of years. I figured it out once, I don't remember what the number was. But anyway, it's a lot of numbers.

In chonmei, the word is countless, but it doesn't mean countless. It's a certain number in the Tibetan system of counting. They have different names for every power of 10 in Buddhism for the last 2,500 years.

There are different names for each number up to 10 to the 60th power. And we memorize them in the abhidharma, but in 60 names, we have to memorize them. But chonmei means 10 to the 60th power.

10 to the 60th power times three, times billions of years, is how long it takes to become a Buddha after you get bodhichitta, which is in itself almost impossible. Okay, got it? some people are trying to go home, chok de yang deng di ni na.

Or, if you use the human body that you have right now, and if you practice the higher teachings, you can finish it in this life. You will be a Buddha in this life. But a human body in this particular realm, in space and time, is endowed with certain energies within the chakras, certain energies of the elements of the body.

And given those energies, you could, if you entered the higher teachings, attain enlightenment, before enlightenment, in this life. But only with this kind of body. You gotta have this kind of body.

There are certain elements in this body, there are certain kinds of chakras, and we'll talk about it later, okay? But your body is not even just a normal human body. Your body has certain inner pathways, chakras, karmas, winds, elements, thoughts, that if you knew how to do it right, you could become a Buddha in this one lifetime, before you die, okay?

So don't tell me you're not my special. Don't tell me I'm just a normal person. I translated for Yeshi Tendra, the nine elements doctrine, okay?

Like 100 years ago, in New York. Oh. She was in her loving arms, at the teachings, okay?

Like Bella, she was here, okay? I remember, you don't remember. But I was translating for the nine elements doctrine.

And then he said, somebody asked him a question. I told you this story, but I'll say it because I know it's gonna be great. Somebody asked him a question, and he said, well, Dr. Dundon, you know, given that Dr. Dundon had just finished describing the causes for cancer, the things that contributed to cancer, and it was weird. He said, all the packaging in all of the food that Americans eat is carcinogen, everything. All the plastic packaging, all the tin cans, everything in which you store food is carcinogen. One.

Okay, two, the little tiny particles of rubber which wear off the tires of every car in this country cause cancer. You are living in a huge cloud of carcinogen all the time. They surround you, you are giving yourself cancer.

From the rubber that wears off the tires of the car. And every electrical wiring in every building is causing people cancer. All electrical wiring causes cancer.

And then they go like, you know, and this guy raises his hand and says, Dr. Dundon, he says, what? He says, if all that stuff causes cancer, then what's a normal person living in a normal city, what are we supposed to do? What can we do?

You know, he looks at him and he says, he was a mis-translator. I said, I'm a mis-translator. He said, I said those are the causes of cancer.

I said, yeah, that's what you said. He said, I didn't say that, I said they contributed to cancer. He said, tell the guy they are not the cause of cancer.

And I said, well, what do you want me to tell him? Those are just factors, you know? Those just influence it.

It's your karma. Everything, all cancer is how you contribute to other people. It has nothing to do with the rubber or the food packaging.

Those are just the expressions of your karma. And you can eat food out of those packages. If you don't have the karma, you won't get cancer.

There's no cause of cancer. Don't tell him I said that. He was really crazy.

And then he said, and you tell him one more thing. I said, what? He said, tell him not to use the word normal with reference to himself or anybody else.

I said, what do you mean? He says, you're not normal. Are you kidding?

You know, you've got this body, you've got this mind, you know? You could be a bodhisattva in a year, you know? You could save the whole planet if you played the cards right.

Tell him he's not, tell him to stop using that goddamn word normal. You know, you should never refer to yourself as a normal person living in a normal city because nobody in this world is normal. Because you have a body with which you can practice non-judgmental thinking like a normal person.

But you're not normal. He said, he got really upset. It's really cool.

But she missed it all. So we're not normal, okay? We're not normal.

I, personally, I don't like to spend so much time thinking about, oh, I could lose my precious opportunity to go to Harvard, I'm going to spend the days. That's true. But I'd rather think, I respond better to positive, you know, reinforcements, right?

I'm like, oh man, I don't know how to be a positive person. My body has an image, certain physical elements that would allow me to change into a being of light within a few years, with my Lama's blessings. If my Lama really blessed me properly, if I accepted the blessing properly, I could change into light in a short amount of time.

I like to think of it that way, okay? All right, so now I'm going to bless you and we're going to be talking to a cookie. Pies and cookies.

Just drink, Tim. Huh? We're just doing drinks, yeah.

We're just doing drinks? There's so much milk, it's hot. Huh?

Do you want us to put the snacks out? We're just going to do drinks. Put the snacks out.

I'll teach you something useful today. Say, gum talk. Gum talk.

Gum talk, talk means a gummy, right? Gum means dry. Gum talk.

Gum talk means a, normally I'm not going to say it in front of you. I'm going to say, gum talk. Gum talk means a wet gum.

You should always do gum talk. Anyway, I'll talk to people. Don't get upset if you don't get out there in front of me today, but I'm going to be in front of you all day.

I'll see you sometime. And then we'll start with like, I'll see you tomorrow.
