Watch your breath. There's only one object in the world, it's your breath. Come to the golden roof.

Don't let your mind leave the golden roof. Look at the sky outside the window. Then stay with the sky.

Be contented to stay with the sky. Then drop your gaze to the mountains across the valley. Live with the last light of the day.

Then bring your mind into the golden room. Ask your dear, sweet, heart teacher to come and feel their hands on your hands. That's all.

[Говорящий 1] (6:58 - 7:04)
The meditation object is the touch of their hand on your hand.

[Говорящий 2] (7:04 - 10:26)
Focus on that. Keep the mind there, not with a struggle, but by enjoying the sacred touch on your hands. Don't lose the touch on your hands.

Use your iron hook in your chain. Bring the mind back. And enjoy.

The only thing in the world is the touch of your teacher's hand. Touch of your teacher's hand. Then bring yourself back to this room.

Slowly open your eyes.

In my experience, the few hours after meals is not a good time to meditate. It's difficult. It's like yoga.

I don't know, I think for about 15 years I didn't eat dinner. I didn't eat afternoon or I didn't eat after lunch. And so evening was a pretty good time to meditate.

But in three-year retreat we found out that the quality of meditation degrades very quickly as you get closer to bedtime. Like it just goes down very sharply. The length of time you can meditate goes down very sharply, I don't know, in the evening for most people.

So don't fight it, you know, don't try it. What we've been trying to do this week was to start with a very short high quality meditation and not worry about the length of the meditation. We weren't trying to pile up minutes meditating.

We were trying to make it high quality. And then that length will come by itself. You see, it did today, right?

This afternoon it came by itself. We weren't trying, I didn't set a goal to like, oh let's increase it to 20-25 minutes or something. But it came because the quality was good, okay?

So if you, I don't know about you, just now I felt the quality wasn't so good for myself. And then I was like, oh I'll fight this, you know? And I'm gonna not stop before 20 minutes or 25 minutes.

And then that's a bad idea, okay? If you're tired, if you just ate, if it's been a long day, if you still have part of a cold, then wrap it up and get to bed early, you know, take care of yourself and have a better one tomorrow, okay? What I mean is don't get in the habit of having a bad meditation.

Don't get in the habit of having a low quality meditation because that's what happens to almost everybody who tries to meditate. They go on for an hour and it's all low quality and then they get used to it. And then they don't really ever have good meditations.

They don't know what it even feels like, you know? So, say, oh you can't say. They call it gukpa utsuk.

Gukpa, the people on the China tour know gukpa. Gukpa means the idiot. Utsuk means insistence.

Idiot insistence, gukpa utsuk. So gukpa utsuk, don't do gukpa utsuk with your meditations. Don't just sit there and say, I'm going to go for 10 o'clock whether I'm on the object or off, you know?

That's like the opposite. Stay on the object and then, you know, if it's 10 minutes, okay. If it's an hour, okay.

If it's five minutes, okay. Just stay on the object. If you find you can't stay on the object, then stop.

Because it just gets a bad habit. It gets subtle wellness or gross wellness or probably even forgetting the object. Like, I think in a lot of cases, it gets worse than dullness.

What's worse than dullness? Just losing the object. Just spending the whole meditation time thinking about something else.

And then you get in that habit. And then you sit down to meditate and you close your eyes and start thinking about something else right away because you have a habit of it, you know. And then you stop even noticing that you're off the object.

I'm speaking from personal experience. All right.
