[Speaker 1] I'm supposed to finish four tonight. We won't do it. But let's, let's try. And this is a very fun division of bodhichitta. We used it in the DCI level 8? What's level 8? Leadership. Leadership? Which one is leadership? 8. Okay. We, we used it for DCI level 8. And in Buddhism, we say there's, you can also divide bodhichitta into three kinds. And tomorrow we're going to do four kinds. But tonight, let's do three kinds. Okay. First is called King's Bodhichitta. And that means you would like to get yourself enlightened first, and then you would like to lead the other people to enlightenment. So, the way you think about enlightenment is ... I'll get enlightened first. Then I will help all the other people. Sometimes it's called eat the meat bodhichitta. Eat the meat bodhichitta. Is it a hundred dollar question? I don't trust Aldo. Okay, hundred dollars. I need money. Why is it called eat the meat bodhichitta? Oh, there's a synapse. Wait, Uncle Phil. Sure? There's a story about ... Oh, get the hundred dollars money. A family traveling in the desert or the mountains or whatever, I don't know what it was, but ... You don't know where it was. I don't know where the money is. And they have ... I think maybe daddy kills a bear or a small animal or something, so he can feed a little bit to his family to help them live a little bit longer. And then he thinks that if I eat this animal, the whole thing, if I eat this animal, I can last for maybe a week and go get some help. And that's the eating ... and he does, and he gets help, and his family survives. That's the eating the meat. Okay. Phil. Mos-ca-to. I'm your amigo. Mos-ca-to. Mos-ca-to. The restaurant you go to twice a week. Okay, okay. Okay. Comprendo, yeah, yeah. Comprendes. Okay, so ... Yeah, please. I forget. Oh no, wait, she didn't do ... No, you give me. Okay, yeah, okay. Yeah, so King Bodhisattva, they want to get enlightened first. They concentrate on their own enlightenment, and then they can lead other people to enlightenment. Okay? Now there's a second kind. They're called the shepherd. Okay? And they want other people to go first. And they are pushing the sheep to go ahead. And they are noble. And they say, I will wait. Okay? You go first. I will help you go first. I will come later. So they are the best bodhisattva, right? No. It's a myth. It's not correct. Okay? If you hear that, somebody say that, tell them they are cuckoo. Loco. Paga? What's paga? What language is that? Okay, anyway, tired I think. Anyway, you're crazy. It's never a good idea to delay your enlightenment for everybody else. You can only help other people as soon as you get enlightened. So this is a legend, but it's a tradition to teach it that way, but it's not correct. No real bodhisattva would delay their enlightenment to help people because the moment they become enlightened, they can make a billion bodies to help other people. Duh! [Speaker 2] Duh! [Speaker 1] I will delay my enlightenment so I don't have a billion bodies and I can help you with my one body. [Speaker 2] Okay? [Speaker 1] It doesn't make sense. But there's a tradition that a bodhisattva would be willing to do it if it worked. And that's the point. If it would help people, I would stay in hell while you go to enlightenment. Actually, it doesn't work like that. The minute you're willing to stay in hell to help other people, you pop out of hell. And there's a famous example called our Buddha. He achieved bodhichitta in hell. He was pulling a cart with another person. The hell guard was whipping them both. And he turned around to the hell guard. He said, you give me the whip. You whip me. And stop whipping this other guy. And the hell guard said, hell guard said, that's fine with me. And he whipped him. He gave all the whips to the Buddha. And in that moment, Lord Buddha got bodhichitta. And then he died immediately. And went to a higher birth and kept working. Okay? Okay. He didn't know about the 18 ACI Diamond Way courses. So, it took a long time. Alright. Last one. Third one. It's called The Ferryman. Like when you go to the Ganges River, even now, and you want to cross to the other side, you have to hire a boat and a guy. So, the minute that you reach the other side is also the minute that the boat driver reaches the other side. So, you reach together. So, this is also kind of a myth. It means I will wait until you catch up with me and then we'll go in together. And then it doesn't make sense if when you go in you have a billion bodies to help everybody. It doesn't make sense to delay. Again, it doesn't make sense to delay until everyone catches up and you step over the finish line together. But the motivation is sweet. Okay? I'll wait until you catch up. Let's go together. So, all three of these kinds of bodhichitta are very healthy and traditional, very sweet. If it would help you, I would delay my enlightenment. You could catch up. Or you could go, you know, you go through the door first, I'll go through after you. It's a sweet intention. So, it's considered one of the three types of bodhichitta. Which one's the real one? The king, yeah. You get it first, then you help other people. Okay, that's as much as we're going to do tonight. Every day is going to get harder now. You're going to be more tired. The jet lag is replaced with exhaustion. And just be tough guy. There's a very ... I always think about this famous Chinese monk, Xuanzang. He went to India to get these teachings. He walked for 17 years to get the teachings. I got on the plane from Mexico City, it was an hour and 30 minutes ride. And I had a little upset stomach from the fresh orange juice in the airport. That's the biggest suffering I had. Maybe he worked a little harder. 1,300 years ago. Alright? So, just be tough, okay? You're living in a very magical time. You can drive here in an hour. You don't have to walk for 17 years. So, if you feel a little tired, think about Xuanzang. Okay? Cool. Okay, here we go. I forgot one thing from the homework from last time, and welcome Alexa for translating. We divided bodhichitta into two types, two momos, two empanitas? Empanada. And that was ... they call it ultimate bodhichitta, and ... what do you want to call it? Kunzop? Apparent bodhichitta. Okay. Apparent is, you know, wanting to become a Buddha for all beings. Ultimate is the direct perception of emptiness. So, the direct perception of emptiness is sometimes just called ultimate love. For $100. See? I woke everybody up. The best way to wake up is Tara coffee, and $100. So, if you get this one right, you get a free Tara coffee. Am I right? And $100. Here we go. Why is ultimate bodhichitta called ultimate bodhichitta? And why is apparent bodhichitta called apparent bodhichitta? Because in English, apparent means, looks like bodhichitta, but not real bodhichitta. $100. $100. Who's choosing? Tim? Pachi? Pachi, you want to choose? Tim, Pachi's going to choose. Give Pachi $50 before you come to class. Okay, I'll repeat the question. Why is ultimate bodhichitta called ultimate bodhichitta? Why is apparent bodhichitta called apparent bodhichitta? Especially because the word apparent means not really real. Because of the total illumination is the second one? Total illumination is the second one? Supreme bodhichitta. And the other is not totally illuminated because of the vacuity? No? It's close, but ... Not perceived totally? Not yet, not yet. Okay, I need another answer, I need another answer. Come on. Although, you're not allowed. I'm going to stay with you and where do you go someplace else? Where do you go someplace else? It's not an easy question, by the way. In ultimate bodhichitta, you have it because you see the faces of every living being, so you make a commitment to ... And in the other one, we still have pride in our hearts, and in the other one, we have other afflictions, and that does not allow that we can fully develop it. That's why there are three levels. At the beginning, you just start to feel it a little bit, like the sugarcane skin one. Then you study Dharma and you start to have it a little bit more in your heart. And then when you perceive emptiness directly is when you actually do the real commitment. That's a hundred dollar answer to a different question. One more try. One more try. It's a difficult question. It's a difficult question. [Speaker 2] Am I allowed? [Speaker 1] Okay. I mean, you should just whisper it in Nicole's ear and let her answer. But you have to do it today. Okay. Oh no, Hasso is okay. It's a long answer. Before you have the direct perception of emptiness, you cannot really help everybody. And it's called deceptive. [Speaker 2] Because you have the wish, but you can't help everybody yet. [Speaker 1] Okay, it's a difficult one. In general, well I'll ask you a $300 question. Forget the $100 question. Now Aldo is like ... He's going to take you to dinner, right? Okay, you ready? And this will help clarify the other question. Here we go. Can you be in the direct perception of emptiness and have bodhichitta in your mind at the same moment? It's up to Pachi. This is a $300 question, okay? And I cancel the $100 question. When you're having the experience of perceiving emptiness directly, you don't have an awareness of yourself or what's happening. So that's why in that moment you cannot have bodhichitta. You can have it when you come back from the experience after having seen the face of all beings and having made the commitment to help them. You're like at $200. So I'll give you $200, but I'll give $100 to someone who can finish the answer. Because in your system, a bodhisattva cannot see emptiness directly, because bodhichitta makes you a bodhisattva. But the rest of your answer is perfect. So it's $200. Okay, can anybody? Okay, go ahead. By the way, it's a famous question in the scriptures. When you have direct perception of emptiness, you realize that everything is coming from you. And so in this case, applying bodhichitta, that is not real, is wanting to help others. And the real one, and the real one is wanting to help yourself because you realize that everything is coming from you. Nope. Okay, I'll give ... do you know the answer? I mean, if you didn't hear the scripture, you probably don't know the answer. You want to try? You can't go out to dinner, but you could go out to lunch. [Speaker 2] The definition says that bodhichitta is the main mind. So, if it wasn't the main mind, then no bodhisattva could perceive emptiness directly, because while they are perceiving emptiness directly, there is no mind. But since it's like the main mind, it's ... [Speaker 1] as it is in the definition, it's always there. I'm going to give you a hundred bucks, but I'm just going to add one thing. So, how they explain ... your answer is very cool. Excellent. And there's your hundred bucks. But, say SEMS SKYES KYIS ... Word, you know it? You know the Tibetan? The Tibetan? Come on, maybe I got you. What? Tibetan phrase is very relevant here. I got him. Just, I want to prove I got him. [Speaker 2] One time, okay? One time he couldn't answer. [Speaker 1] SEMS SKYES KYIS Say SEMS SKYES KYIS SEMS SKYES KYIS SIM PA'I SIM PA'I SEMS SKYES KYIS SEMS SKYES KYIS SIM PA'I SIM PA'I SEMS SKYES KYIS So, in America, when you get caught for driving drunk, They're called DUI, DUI. DUI. Do you guys know what it means? Word, you can do that part. Driving under the influence, DUI. Okay, it means you got drunk at the bar. Then you got in your car. It means your judgment is affected by the alcohol. The alcohol is affecting your judgment. Okay? But you are watching the road. Okay? So the main mental process is visual awareness of the road. Then under the main awareness, the alcohol is influencing your perception. So that's what SEMS SKYES KYI SEMS PA'I SGO NAS means. You are seeing emptiness directly. Therefore you cannot see or think about directly a living being. It's not possible, because a person is not emptiness. You ready? A person is called Deceptive Reality, and emptiness, direct perception, can only see ultimate reality. So you might want to call a regular bodhichitta, Deceptive Bodhichitta, because it can only focus on a thing which is not emptiness. And only emptiness tells the truth. Okay? So, how they explain ... you know, what happens if you're already a bodhisattva? You go into the direct perception of emptiness. If bodhichitta defines you as a bodhisattva, and if you lose your bodhichitta during the direct perception, then that's weird. You have to say no bodhisattva ever sees emptiness. So, how do they avoid the problem? That guy who's driving the car called Emptiness Perception, he's under the influence of ultimate love. Okay? Got it? Okay. It's not directly doing anything, it's just influencing him. But, that's not what I'm supposed to cover this afternoon. I'm supposed to cover ... there's another division of bodhichitta into two. So, if you're running out of momos for a lunch party, you don't have to go to the three jewels. You can just give them two again. Oh, there's two kinds of bodhichitta. Hector? For zero dollars. For a free coffee from Tara. [Speaker 2] In the form of a vow. And in the form of action. [Speaker 1] Commitment. Okay? I went to a yoga class, it was really, really good. And thank you for that. Yeah, thank you for the yoga class. But before the class, I think it was Barbara who was mopping the floor. So, she was serving everyone in the yoga class, in the form of action. And me and Anatole were relaxing. We were thinking, we will help all living beings. Okay? That's the division, okay? First one is me and Anatole. Someday we should help all living beings. It's called bodhichitta in the form of a prayer or an intention. And Barbara's doing it, the real thing, activity. So, usually the intention comes first, and then maybe tomorrow me and Anatole will clean the floor. Okay? Okay? That's the last part of the three homeworks to go, and we got to get going. So, we had ...
